Eugene Fredrick Kuhlmann, the son of Wilbert Kuhlmann and Elsie (Rahe) Kuhlmann, was born February 12,1934 in Chester, NE and passed away on August 29, 2022 at the Blue Valley Lutheran Home, Hebron, NE at the age of 88 years, 6 months, and 17 days.
Gene grew up and received his education in Chester, graduating from Chester High School. Gene held various positions at the grain elevator in Byron, NE, later Aurora Co-op. He made his home in Chester his entire life.
On July 5, 1956, he was united in marriage to LaNita Gray and to this union was born Danny Gene Kuhlmann. The couple was later divorced, but remained friends.
Gene was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, Chester, NE. In his high school days, he played 6-man football and also basketball at Chester. He held the state high jump record for Nebraska for several years. Gene also refereed area high school football and basketball for several years.
He was preceded in death by his parents Wilbert and Elsie Kuhlmann.
Gene is survived by his son Danny G. (Kathi) Kuhlmann of Centennial, CO; cousins Karis Kuhlmann, Scott Kuhlmann, Michelle Kuhlmann Dinkel, Rob Kuhlmann, and Randy Rahe; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 1, 2022 at St. John Lutheran Church, Chester, NE with Pastor Greg Schaffer, officiating.
Interment will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery, rural Chester, NE
Friends may call from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, Kansas where the family will receive friends from 6p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
