February 12, 1934 ~ August 29, 2022 (age 88)

&nbsp;Eugene Fredrick Kuhlmann, the son of Wilbert Kuhlmann and Elsie (Rahe) Kuhlmann, was born February 12,1934 in Chester, NE and passed away on&nbsp;August 29, 2022 at the Blue Valley Lutheran Home, Hebron, NE at the age of 88 years, 6 months, and 17 days.

Gene grew up and received his education in Chester, graduating from Chester High School. Gene held various positions at the grain elevator in Byron, NE, later Aurora Co-op.&nbsp;&nbsp; He made his home in Chester his entire life.

On July 5, 1956, he was united in marriage to LaNita Gray and to this union was born Danny Gene Kuhlmann. The couple was later divorced,&nbsp;but remained friends.

Gene was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, Chester, NE. In his high school days, he played 6-man football and also basketball at Chester. He held the state high jump record for Nebraska for several years. Gene also refereed area high school football and basketball for several years.

He was preceded in death by his parents Wilbert and Elsie Kuhlmann.

Gene is survived by his son Danny G. (Kathi) Kuhlmann of Centennial, CO; cousins Karis Kuhlmann, Scott Kuhlmann, Michelle Kuhlmann Dinkel, Rob Kuhlmann, and Randy Rahe; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 1, 2022 at St. John Lutheran Church, Chester, NE with Pastor Greg Schaffer, officiating.

Interment will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery, rural Chester, NE

Friends may call from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, Kansas where the family will receive friends from 6p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

Billy Don White, 65, passed away peacefully Friday, August 26, 2022, at his home in Wichita. He was born August 20, 1957, in Bridgeport, TX to Marvin Don and Mary Jon (Cates) White.

 Billy married Barb Johnson in Harper, KS on September 20, 1980.

 He was a 43-year employee of Acme Brick Company, retiring as sales manager in 2020.

Billy is survived by his wife Barb White of Wichita; son Brody White of Wichita; daughter Beth Koehn (Brett) of Kansas City, MO; and granddaughters, Zoe Smith and Brynlee Koehn. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Leeann Beagley.

Visitation will take place 9:30-10:30 a.m., Friday, September 2, 2022, at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth, KS.

A funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m., Friday at Parsons Funeral Home.

Burial will take place at 3:00 p.m., Friday, September 2, 2022, at Harper Cemetery in Harper, KS.

Dorothy Parry received her gift of eternal life on August 27, 2022, surrounded by her children at her home in Morganville, Kansas.

Dorothy was born on the family farm south of Palmer, KS on January 22, 1927, to Emil and Emma (Meyer) Ohlde. She enjoyed her childhood on the farm with her older brother, Elmer, and older sisters, Edna and Florence.&nbsp; 

She was baptized on January 30, 1927, and later confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Palmer, KS. She attended St John’s Lutheran School and later the Wichita Business College in Wichita, KS. 

After completing her schooling, she worked at Union State Bank in Clay Center.

On December 4, 1949, she married Floyd Parry. They started their married life on a farm South of Clay Center and in 1956 moved to a farm north of Morganville. In 1983 they moved to their five-acre beautifully landscaped property in Morganville. 

Dorothy was a wise, patient mother to her eight children and a hard-working partner to Floyd on the farm. In addition to caring for her family, she drove a school bus route and an overnight mail route for the post office - sometimes both on the same day.

She lived her life centered around her Christian faith. She was a faithful, active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clay Center. Over the years she taught Midweek school, Sunday school, Vacation Bible school and was a member of Friendship Circle.

 She was a good friend to her neighbors and an involved member of her community and her local Lions Club. Dorothy enjoyed flower gardening. Her park-like yard has been the location of the Easter egg hunts in Morganville since 1985. She always used the Easter egg hunts to share the message, ‘He is Risen.’

Dorothy’s home in Morganville was the perfect place for many family gatherings, where all family and friends felt welcomed and loved. She always remembered the birth dates, baptism dates, and wedding anniversaries of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She had a closet full of dress-up play clothes, toys, and a playhouse in the back yard for the children. Dorothy genuinely enjoyed visiting with family, friends, and neighbors.

Dorothy was preceded in death by husband Floyd; son Curt; son-in-law Layne Harris; sister Edna and her husband Gerhard Wiemers; brother Elmer and his wife, Mabel; and sister Florence and her husband Ted Meyer.

She is survived by her children Carol (Virgil) Gordon, Coleen (Paul) Sallee, Clarice (Royce) Ohlde, Craig (Terri) Parry, Cathy (Jim) Jones, Chris Bullard, Clay (Kelly) Parry, daughter-in-law Mary Parry, 22 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy dedicated her life to her Lord and her family. She will be missed by her family and friends, but we take comfort in knowing she will be wrapped in the love of Christ for all eternity.

Russell was born July 15, 1955, in Newton to Otto and Edna Eck and joined his older brother Rodney.&nbsp; Brother Morris was born in 1957 and Mitchell was born in 1962 to complete the family of four boys. 

Russell attended Remington schools and graduated from Remington High School in 1974 where he enjoyed math.&nbsp; Being a born farmer, he worked with his father and later with two of his brothers on the same family farm all his life.&nbsp; 

As a family, camping vacations to Colorado were enjoyed when field work permitted.&nbsp; When Rodney relocated to Fort Wayne, Indiana, the three brothers were known to take the bus to visit Rodney. On one occasion, the bus broke down and Russell was able to repair it displaying his mechanical skills. They had a baling business for some years and always appreciated a delicious home cooked meal when provided by the neighbor wives.&nbsp; Russell also worked for neighboring farmers assisting with combining and trucking wheat. 

He was sociable and appreciated by friends and neighbors. Russel enjoyed southern gospel and contemporary music enjoying concerts. After his parents died at young ages, he also experienced further loss when Rodney died in 2007. Morris died suddenly in 2009 at the age of 43 during harvest. Mitchell developed cancer and died in 2020 at the age of 58. So, he wondered when his turn would come.

His neighbors were friends who called on him and cared about him. He knew who he could call for help. A neighbor family held a very special birthday party for his 60th&nbsp;birthday and he was surprised and overwhelmed. 

Russell knew he wasn’t ready for heaven and the spiritual seed was planted for three or more years with frequent discussion about the gospel. One Easter he was ready to get more serious and began to read the Bible given to him, and began looking up scriptures about salvation, and continued asking questions. He began to understand further after viewing the movie “God Is Not Dead.” At that time, he more fully understood his personal need of the Savior and accepted Christ’s death on the cross as payment for his personal sins. Following this, he was invited to study the Bible beginning in Genesis. His joy and assurance were evident, and he sought Bible instruction through Emmaus Church. He was baptized by Dr. Tim Mace.

He enjoyed spending time with the young children of his neighbor and while watching a children’s DVD, he realized anew the simplicity of his salvation. On the first Christmas after his conversion, he hung a lighted wreath in the window. He was reported to have said, “Now I want people to know that I am celebrating Christmas for the right reasons.” One of his favorited times to serve in the church was at the annual men’s breakfast during the missions conference.

Russel was promoted to the presence of his Savior whom he loved on July 23, 2022. 

Russell’s family includes his nephew David and wife Rachel Eck, great nephew Uriah Eck, nephew Kevin Eck, sister-in-law Mary (Eck) Petrie. He also has younger nieces Lily and Lila. He also has many cousins and friends.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents Otto and Edna Eck, brothers Rodney, Morris, and Mitchell Eck.

Russell attended Remington schools and graduated from Remington High School in 1974 where he enjoyed math.&nbsp; Being a born farmer, he worked with his father and later with two of his brothers on the same family farm all his life.&nbsp; As a family, camping vacations to Colorado were enjoyed when field work permitted.&nbsp; When Rodney relocated to Fort Wayne, Indiana, the three brothers were known to take the bus to visit Rodney. On one occasion, the bus broke down and Russell was able to repair it displaying his mechanical skills. They had a baling business for some years and always appreciated a delicious home cooked meal when provided by the neighbor wives.&nbsp; Russell also worked for neighboring farmers assisting with combining and trucking wheat. He was sociable and appreciated by friends and neighbors. Russel enjoyed southern gospel and contemporary music enjoying concerts. After his parents died at young ages, he also experienced further loss when Rodney died in 2007. Morris died suddenly in 2009 at the age of 43 during harvest. Mitchell developed cancer and died in 2020 at the age of 58. So, he wondered when his turn would come.His neighbors were friends who called on him and cared about him. He knew who he could call for help. A neighbor family held a very special birthday party for his 60th&nbsp;birthday and he was surprised and overwhelmed. Russell knew he wasn’t ready for heaven and the spiritual seed was planted for three or more years with frequent discussion about the gospel. One Easter he was ready to get more serious and began to read the Bible given to him, and began looking up scriptures about salvation, and continued asking questions. He began to understand further after viewing the movie “God Is Not Dead.” At that time, he more fully understood his personal need of the Savior and accepted Christ’s death on the cross as payment for his personal sins. Following this, he was invited to study the Bible beginning in Genesis. His joy and assurance were evident, and he sought Bible instruction through Emmaus Church. He was baptized by Dr. Tim Mace.He enjoyed spending time with the young children of his neighbor and while watching a children’s DVD, he realized anew the simplicity of his salvation. On the first Christmas after his conversion, he hung a lighted wreath in the window. He was reported to have said, “Now I want people to know that I am celebrating Christmas for the right reasons.” One of his favorited times to serve in the church was at the annual men’s breakfast during the missions conference.Russel was promoted to the presence of his Savior whom he loved on July 23, 2022. Russell’s family includes his nephew David and wife Rachel Eck, great nephew Uriah Eck, nephew Kevin Eck, sister-in-law Mary (Eck) Petrie. He also has younger nieces Lily and Lila. Russell K. Eck

Nancy May (Levin) Muir passed away on August 26, 2022, at her home in 
Stockton, KS, at the age of 90. She was born on January 24, 1932, to 
Carl and May (Anderson) Levin in Salina, KS. She married Richard Davis 
“Dick” Muir on January 27, 1952, in Salina and they were blessed with 5 
children: Mike, Dana, Brad, John and Pat.
 Nancy grew up in Salina and graduated from Salina High School in 
1950. After she graduated high school, she worked as a secretary for 
Scoular Grain Company. Nancy met Dick on a blind date arranged by very 
dear mutual friends. After being married, Nancy left the comforts of her
 family’s urban home and moved to the country where she and Dick started
 farming and started their family. After her children were raised, she 
worked as a secretary at the high school and later she worked at the 
Main Street Medical Clinic. Nancy loved to cook and care for her family,
 especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who called her 
GG. She enjoyed attending their school and sporting events. She always 
took her local great grands to the Library every Friday and made sure 
they all went to swimming lessons during the summer sessions. Nancy 
loved to play golf and was a member of the Sunflowerettes women’s golf 
division. She taught her grandson, Heath, how to golf and later enjoyed 
going to his many tournaments. Nancy was a member and board member of 
the Methodist Church, she was on the Valley View Board, she belonged to 
ESA Sorority and the Sunflower EHS.
 Nancy was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. Her love, 
intelligence, positivity, laughter, faith, and compassion helped raise 
an amazing family and impacted the lives of all who knew her. Whether 
life was dealing an easy hand or a difficult one, she taught us all how 
to live with amazing grace, joy, and happiness. Nancy had a love that 
knew no bounds this side of heaven and has now found its fullness in 
Christ; for that we rejoice, until we see her again, on the other side 
of heaven.
 Nancy is survived by her children, Mike (Sherry) Muir of Hays, KS, 
Dana (Steve) Fisher of Bainbridge Island, WA, John (Tina) Muir of 
Johnson Lake, NE, and Pat (Tialisa) Muir of Stockton; brother Charles 
(Karen) Levin of Salina; daughter-in-law, Gina Muir of Stockton; 10 
grandchildren, Stacey (Dave) Jackson, Amy Muir, Finn (Renee) Fisher, 
Gillian (Blair) MacDonald, Kayla (Spencer) Hilbrink, Lindsey Mongeau, 
Tyler (Krista) Muir, Tiffani Bacon, Kieran (Stephanie) Muir, Heath 
(Lacey) Muir, and Nicole (Michael) Toney; and 24 great-grandchildren.
 She is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and May Levin;

Robert D. “Bob” Kopsa, the son of Charles Wilson Kopsa and Hattie Vaneta (Peterson) Kopsa, was born November 12, 1930 in Cuba, Kansas and passed away on August 26, 2022 at the Blue Valley Lutheran Courtyard Terrace, Hebron, NE at the age of 91 years, 9 months, and 14 days.

Bob grew up in the Cuba/Munden area, graduating from Whitelock Grade School.&nbsp;&nbsp; He attended high school in Belleville for one year, and then attended Narka High School, graduating in 1948.

Following his schooling, he worked for Verle Holloway on the farm.&nbsp;&nbsp; Bob then served with the U. S. Marine Corps from 1951 until 1953, serving in Korea during the Korean War.

He returned to the area after his discharge and began farm work, working for the Holloway and Welch farms. Bob later worked at the Flowers Dairy in Fairbury, NE. He also worked at Foote’s for several years and was a janitor at the Hubbell, NE grade school and was a school bus driver. He worked for Scott Mumm Farms also until the age of 85 and still would assist during harvest for many years.

He was united in marriage to Eilene Welch and to this union four children were born.&nbsp; They were later divorced.

He later was united in marriage to Phyllis (Edwards) Gertison and her three daughters joined the family.&nbsp; She preceded him in death

Bob was a member of the Lions Club, Hubbell, NE; a volunteer fireman for Chester Fire and Rescue for several years. He liked going to basketball games, going to races and dances, and enjoyed polka music.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Hattie Kopsa; his wives Eilene and Phyllis; two brothers, Clair (Gail) Kopsa and Don (Elaine) Kopsa;&nbsp;one sister, Betty (Eldon) Evert; niece,Vicki Hallagin, and stepdaughter Peggy Iwert.

Bob is survived by his children&nbsp; Vaneta (Gerald) Moore of Munden, KS,&nbsp;Rebecca (Arlan) Benyshek of Cuba, KS, Kevin Kopsa of Chester, NE, Lana Kopsa of Lincoln, NE, and Becky (Mick) Gausman of Chester, NE;&nbsp; 11 grandchildren:&nbsp;Andy (Julinne) Moore of Sabetha, KS, Luke (Tracey) Moore of Munden, KS,&nbsp;Daniel Moore of Munden, KS, Amber (Jesse) Versch of Hornick, Iowa, A.J. (Abby) Gausman of Deshler, NE, Kyle (Patty) Joy of Sutton, NE, Laura Joy of Narka, KS,&nbsp;Tina Bramhall, Nikki Bays, Fred Iwert, and John Iwert; and 15 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.&nbsp;

Cremation was selected and graveside memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 3, 2022 at the National Bohemian (Kopsa) Cemetery.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the U. S. Marine Corps Honor Guard.

S. Marine Corps from 1951 until 1953, serving in Korea during the Korean War.He returned to the area after his discharge and began farm work, working for the Holloway and Welch farms. Bob later worked at the Flowers Dairy in Fairbury, NE. He also worked at Foote’s for several years and was a janitor at the Hubbell, NE grade school and was a school bus driver. He worked for Scott Mumm Farms also until the age of 85 and still would assist during harvest for many years.He was united in marriage to Eilene Welch and to this union four children were born.&nbsp; They were later divorced.He later was united in marriage to Phyllis (Edwards) Gertison and her three daughters joined the family.&nbsp; She preceded him in deathBob was a member of the Lions Club, Hubbell, NE; a volunteer fireman for Chester Fire and Rescue for several years. Doris Elaine Swanson, 92, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 7:08 p.m., Thursday, July 21st, 2022 at Brookdale McPherson.&nbsp;

Doris Elaine Spradlin was born on February 10, 1930, in Hutchinson, KS, to George E. and Edith (Waldo) Spradlin. George and Edith lived in Hutchinson until 1935, when they moved their family to McPherson, KS. George and Edith also had a second daughter, Donna. Doris was baptized at the First Christian Church of McPherson, when she was eight years old. Doris attended school in McPherson, graduating from McPherson High School in 1948. Then she went on to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital’s nurses training in Hutchinson and became a registered nurse on June 19, 1951. Doris worked as a registered nurse for Dr. Weir Pierson and Dr. E.C. Brandsted. She enjoyed working for Dr. Brandsted, especially delighting in the obstetrics patients and their newborn babies. She remained working for Dr. Brandsted until they both retired from active practice. Doris was married to Carl W. Swanson at the First Christian Church in McPherson, KS, on October 21, 1955. Together they celebrated 55 years of marriage before Carl passed away on March 17, 2011. She was the mother of a son, Dale and a daughter, Lori. Doris and Carl were fun grandparents to Karin, Leslie and Adam. They were game to keep the grandkids so that their parents could get away now and then. They attended as many of Leslie’s sporting events as they were able. They lovingly created and maintained “the pond” where the family could gather for fishing and for celebrations. The great-grandsons Jacob and Dylan grew up enjoying being at the pond – they could ride in the paddle boat, swing, or play in the sand pile. Many extended family celebrations were held there. Doris planted flowers that made the pond a very attractive place to gather and organized all the meals that took place at the pond. When great-great-grandson Derek arrived in November 2019, the family was able to take 5-generation photos with Doris! She made sure she had M&amp;M’s on hand for Derek’s visits to Brookdale as he got older. Doris loved sewing, making quilts for her family in her retirement. They are cherished heirlooms, especially now. After Carl died, Doris became very proactive for herself, selecting an apartment and moving to McPherson from the farm, deciding when it was time for her to cease driving and selling her car, selecting Brookdale as the assisted living facility where she would live. This was a huge blessing to her family. She was always a step ahead so that the decisions were hers, and not something they had to force upon her. She very much enjoyed gathering monthly at Hank’s with local members of her high school graduating class until the COVID-19 pandemic brought that to a halt. She also belonged to a birthday club of special friends who met monthly. Doris delivered Meals on Wheels in McPherson for more than 15 years, with either Carl or Lori. Doris was profoundly saddened by the sudden death of her daughter Lori on April 5, 2022, and her health went into a steady decline until her death on Thursday, July 21, 2022, at the age of 92. She is survived by her son Dale Swanson and his wife Kris of McPherson, her three grandchildren, Karin Krehbiel and her husband Jay of McPherson, Leslie Lyman and her husband Justin of Overland Park, and Adam Swanson who lives on the family farm; her two great-grandsons, Jacob Krehbiel and his wife Katlynn of Salina and Dylan Krehbiel of McPherson; her great-great-grandson Derek Krehbiel; her sister Donna Dooley of Edmond, OK, and her nephew Dana Dooley of Texas; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl, her daughter Lori, her brother-in-law Joe Dooley; her nephews Tad Dooley and Joel Dooley. We, her family, would like to thank Brookdale Assisted Living and Kindred Hospice for their tender care for Doris in the last days of her life. She was so appreciative of all of you. Diane Kay Jones was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.&nbsp; She left this world on Friday, August 26, 2022, at age 65, surrounded by loved ones.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;

Diane was born to Harold and Betty Sibley on June 28th, 1957 in Beloit, KS.&nbsp; She met the love of her life, Curtis Jones, while shopping for groceries.&nbsp; They married on May 23rd, 1981.&nbsp; Together, they had three daughters: Alicia, Erin, and Jessica.

Diane was always there to lend a helping hand and support those in need.&nbsp; Diane's greatest joy in life was spending time with her family.&nbsp; She loved nothing more than beating her kids and grandkids in gin rummy. All while pretending, she didn't remember how to play.&nbsp; Diane enjoyed sewing Christmas pajamas every year for her grandkids.&nbsp; Curtis and she would always pick out the fabrics together.&nbsp; Diane was a master at making fudge.&nbsp; She tried to teach her family, but unfortunately to no avail.&nbsp; Her fudge will be missed.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jones of Hastings, NE; three daughters, Alicia Dawn (and Jerad) Miller of St. Louis, MO, Erin Michelle Jones of St. Louis, MO, and Jessica Diane (and Morgan) Quinn of Hastings, NE; four grandchildren, Bailey Diane Quinn, Reagan Dawn Miller, Maxwell Thomas Miller, and Ruby Jean Quinn; six brothers, Jesse Peterson, Fred Sibley, Rex Sibley, Ray Don Sibley, Gary Sibley, and Randy Sibley; four sisters, Janis Koch, Barbara Anderson, Carol Thompson, and Rose Hearen; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.&nbsp; 

Diane was preceded in death by her parents Harold Duane and Betty Jean (Mott) Sibley; three brothers, Richard Peterson, Harold Sibley, and Rory Sibley; and one sister, June Ellis.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 31 at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place andthere will be no visitation.

Marcia Ann (Krone) Girard was born in Clyde, Kansas, to Ronalda Leduc Krone and Paul Krone on September 5, 1941. She passed away Friday, August 26 at Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care from respiratory failure as a result of ALS or Lou Gerhig’s disease. Marcia graduated from Clyde High School with the class of 1959. She then pursued her interest in the nursing profession, and in 1962 she graduated from the Sisters of St. Joseph School of Nursing in Salina.

That year was a pivotal one in her life as she married Bernard Lee Girard in December of 1962. 

Marcia and Bernard moved about following their careers (nursing and school administration) and caring for their three children. She enjoyed a diverse career as a nurse: working in the operating room as a surgical nurse, in critical-access inpatient nursing, and finally ending her career in the post-surgical ward. 

Tending to the needs of others was her life’s work, and she never strayed from that even upon retirement. She was quick to make cookies and to offer assistance to anyone in need. She loved all things musical and enjoyed her church choir and many evening with friends listening to the symphony and watching community plays. Traveling to see her children was one of her favorite activities after retiring. She was quick to offer prayer support, and her continual ability to lighten the load of others with a sympathetic ear remained until her last breath. Marcia is survived by her husband Bernard of Solomon, Kansas, and their three children: Stephanie and husband David May of Shawnee, KS; Steven Girard and wife Blanka, of Ann Arbor, MI; and Lori and husband Robert Schrock of Kiowa, KS. Marcia and Bernard’s true delight though was in their grandchildren. Andrea May, Rachel Girard, Lindsay and her husband Andrew McKittrick, Patrick Girard, Bridget May, and Ellie Schrock brought tremendous joy to her, and she cherished every visit, every text and every phone call with them. She will be greatly missed by many cousins, former co-workers, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Ronalda Krone and her grandson Zachary May. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 30, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Solomon, Kansas. Burial will follow in Clyde, Kansas, at Mount Calvary.

Marcia graduated from Clyde High School with the class of 1959. She then pursued her interest in the nursing profession, and in 1962 she graduated from the Sisters of St. Joseph School of Nursing in Salina. That year was a pivotal one in her life as she married Bernard Lee Girard in December of 1962. Marcia and Bernard moved about following their careers (nursing and school administration) and caring for their three children. She enjoyed a diverse career as a nurse: working in the operating room as a surgical nurse, in critical-access inpatient nursing, and finally ending her career in the post-surgical ward. Tending to the needs of others was her life’s work, and she never strayed from that even upon retirement. She was quick to make cookies and to offer assistance to anyone in need. She loved all things musical and enjoyed her church choir and many evening with friends listening to the symphony and watching community plays. Traveling to see her children was one of her favorite activities after retiring. She was quick to offer prayer support, and her continual ability to lighten the load of others with a sympathetic ear remained until her last breath. She is survived by her sister Josephine Goscha of Garden City, and many nieces and nephews.

Terry Kenneth Haug, 74, of Smith Center, passed away August 18, 2022. He was born March 13, 1948, in Seneca, Kansas.

Terry lived in Seneca, from birth until 1995 then moved to Smith Center up until his death.

He held many occupations, son, father grandpa, great-grandpa, friend, farmer, mechanic, and truck driver.

He was preceded in death by his parents Emil K. and Ardyce C. Haug of Seneca, his beloved wife Lois J. Haug of Smith Center.

A Memorial Service for Charley Burton Rasp, age 84, of Enid, OK, is 
10:00 am, Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel.
 Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral 
Home. 
Charley was born August 8, 1938, in Kingfisher, Oklahoma, and passed away
 Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK. His 
proud parents were Alfred Leo Rasp Sr. and Nellie Louise (Grimes) Rasp 
of Abilene, Kansas. 
The Rasp family moved to Abilene, Kansas, in 1941. Charley attended 
Garfield Grade School, Abilene Junior High and Abilene High School. 
During these school years, he was active in football, basketball, 
baseball and sang in the Abilene High choir and mixed ensemble. Charley 
played American Legion baseball during the summer for several seasons. 
Charley and Judith Ann Menges were married June 12, 1960, at the First 
Christan Church in Abilene, Ks. Afterwards, the couple moved to Hays, 
Kansas, to attend Fort Hays State University. Judy worked for the 
University's Director of Housing while Charley worked on the school 
maintenance program. During March 1963, the couple was blessed with the 
birth of Michelle Renee. Charley graduated from Fort Hays State 
University in May 1963, earning a bachelor's degree in Business 
Administration. 
The couple then moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where Charley joined 
Phillips Petroleum Company as an accounting trainee. One year later, 
they moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma, where they maintained their home 
for 29 plus years. During those many years, the family grew to five, 
with Troy Randall and Jennifer Lynn both joining the family. Charley was
 very active supporting the kids activities (school PTA, sports at the 
Boys Club, Bartlesville Little League, served as president of Pony/Colt 
League for four years, as well as acting as a coach and director of 
softball and baseball for Little League). Charley and Judy were very 
active in square dancing. The family were members of the East Cross 
Methodist Church in Bartlesville. 
Charley entered a "loan service program" for Phillips Petroleum in 1975,
 with the position being in Norway. The family headed to London, England
 where Charley trained for 6 months. Then the family moved to Stavanger,
 Norway, for two years, where Charley served as Finance Manager for 
Norpipe A/S, while on loan service from Phillips Petroleum Co. The 
children attended the American School while in Stavanger. Living in 
Norway was a great experience for the entire family. Upon returning from
 Norway, the family returned to Bartlesville, Oklahoma. 
Charley held various positions before becoming Director of Banking &amp;
 Cash Management for Phillips Petroleum Company. Short of his 30-year 
anniversary, Phillips advised his services were no longer required, due 
to a major layoff within the company. Two years later, Charley joined 
the City of Kansas City, Missouri, Finance Department, Treasury Division
 as Manager of Cash Operations. After 15 years, Charley retired from the
 City of Kansas, Missouri.At this time, Michelle, Troy and Jennifer were
 away from the home and all three had earned their bachelor's degree 
from the University of Central Oklahoma, Edmond. Charley and Judy were 
very proud that all three kids earned their bachelor's degree. After 
retiring in Kansas City, Charley and Judy moved to Enid. Oklahoma. 
Charley joined the staff of the Garfield County District Attorney, 
working there for two years before retiring. Charley and Judy maintained
 their home in Enid where they enjoyed their grandchildren until the 
time of their passing. 
Survivors are daughter Michelle Renee Rasp Walsh of La Plata, MD, son 
Troy Randall Rasp of Enid, OK, daughter Jennifer Lynn Rasp of Ok. City, 
OK, grandsons Ryan Walsh and Logan Rasp, and granddaughters Haley Rasp 
Sparks, Megan Rasp Godfrey and Camryn Rasp.

Robert George Carlson was born on February 27, 1948 in Concordia, Kansas to John Theo and Laverta “Bert” (Farmer) Carlson.&nbsp; 

Robert grew up on the family dairy farm between Courtland and Formoso and attended Courtland Public Schools.&nbsp; He graduated from Courtland High School in the class of 1966.&nbsp; Following high school graduation, he attended Fort Hays State University and graduated in May 1971 with a B.S. degree in ag economics.

On June 12, 1971, he married the love of his life, Janice Lynette Carlson, at the United Methodist Church in Belleville, Kansas.&nbsp;

The end of July 1971, Robert and Jan began their first life adventure with a two-year assignment with Peace Corps arriving in Tehran, Iran August 1, 1971.&nbsp; After language and cultural training, they were assigned to Boujerd Agriculture Technical School.&nbsp; Robert’s job was to train students how to use machinery for farming, new irrigation methods and finished his tenure by designing and building a modern dairy barn with mechanized milking capabilities. They returned to the U.S. in August of 1973.&nbsp; Jan began her teaching career teaching kindergarten in Jewell, KS.&nbsp; Robert began his career farming with his father John and working at the CO-OP elevator.

Following his father’s untimely death on April 5, 1977, Robert began farming full-time and moved his family to the Carlson Family Farm in October 1977.&nbsp; He retired from farming in 2019.

Robert passed away peacefully at his home, The Carlson Family Farm established in 1904, with his family at his side on August 23, 2022 at the age of 74 years, 5 months and 27 days.

He is preceded in death by infant son Jonathan 1975, his parents John and Laverta Carlson and father-in-law, Casey Goodwin.&nbsp;

Memories of Robert will be cherished forever by his wife Jan, daughter Robin Carlson of Marie Chiquita, Panama, daughter Amber Carlson and Marc Pascuzzo of Conifer, Colorado and son Jon Carlson and his wife Amanda, and grandchildren Gunnar and Caroline of Manassas, Virginia.&nbsp; Papa will always be remembered by his numerous chosen grandchildren including Maddy, Gage and Kollins Hanel.&nbsp; Robert is also survived by his sister Michelle “Shelly” Gabel and her husband Dale, nephew Jason Fixsen and wife Christie and their daughter Jaycee, nephew Josh Fixsen and his wife Liz and their son Ethan, mother-in-law Shirley Goodwin of Belleville, as well as other family and a community of friends.

Visitation will be on Thursday, September 1, 2022, from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m., with family greeting friends from 5p.m. – 7 p.m., at Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home.&nbsp; Memorial services will be held Friday, September 2, at 4:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Courtland with Pastor Sandra Jellison-Knock officiating.&nbsp; The service will be live streamed via the Courtland UMC Facebook page beginning at 4 p.m.&nbsp; A private family inurnment will occur at a later date at the Courtland Cemetery.

Carlson | Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home (tibbettsfischerfuneralhome.com)</a>February 27, 1948 ~ August 23, 2022 (age 74)Robert George Carlson was born on February 27, 1948 in Concordia, Kansas to John Theo and Laverta “Bert” (Farmer) Carlson.&nbsp; Robert grew up on the family dairy farm between Courtland and Formoso and attended Courtland Public Schools.&nbsp; He graduated from Courtland High School in the class of 1966.&nbsp; Following high school graduation, he attended Fort Hays State University and graduated in May 1971 with a B.S. degree in ag economics.On June 12, 1971, he married the love of his life, Janice Lynette Carlson, at the United Methodist Church in Belleville, Kansas.&nbsp;The end of July 1971, Robert and Jan began their first life adventure with a two-year assignment with Peace Corps arriving in Tehran, Iran August 1, 1971.&nbsp; After language and cultural training, they were assigned to Boujerd Agriculture Technical School.&nbsp; Robert’s job was to train students how to use machinery for farming, new irrigation methods and finished his tenure by designing and building a modern dairy barn with mechanized milking capabilities. Hillsboro - Viola Faye Gossen, 98, passed away August 15, 2022 at Hillsboro Community Hospital in Hillsboro. She was born March 11, 1924 in Waldheim, Saskatchewan, Canada to Peter and Margaret (Dyck) Gossen. 

Life Sketch Taken from the Funeral Bulletin Viola Faye Gossen March 11, 1924 - August 15, 2022 Viola Faye Gossen was born to Peter C. and Margaret Dyck Gossen in Waldheim, Saskatchewan, Canada on March 11, 1924, the first of four children.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Leonora and Julius Toews, sister Margery and Marvin Ediger, and brother Harvey Gossen. 

Surviving are Harvey's wife Anne, Richard Toews, Rodney Toews, Wesley Toews, Margery Toews Graham, Woody and Cindy Ediger, Marcelynn Ediger, Monty and Cheri Gossen, Bill and Heidi Nelgner, great-nephews and nieces and many cousins.

As a child Viola accepted Jesus as her personal savior. She was baptized at age 12 and was accepted into the Waldheim Mennonite Brethren Church. At the age of seven she contracted polio that affected her left side and she had to learn to walk again. She felt the effects of polio her whole life and she became wheelchair-bound in her later years.

Viola loved teaching and her first teaching position was in a one-room school in Canada. After teaching seven years in Canada she came to Kansas to attend Tabor College to finish her teaching degree. She received her master's degree at Emporia State University. She taught for 41 years in the Hillsboro area and many of her students reside here and have fond memories of Miss Gossen. She became good friends with fellow teacher, Jan Terman in 1969 and Vi (Nana) became a grandmother figure for the Terman family.

Music played a significant role in her life. She started singing in the church choir at the age of 12 and continued until she could no longer walk the steps up to the choir loft.

She enjoyed gardening, watching birds and taking meticulous care of her lawn. Not one dandelion was left unpicked. Viola also enjoyed her new cars. She will surely be missed.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Viola Faye Gossen

Rita was born to Lawrence and Hazel Fairbanks Corcoran on September 28, 1939, in Boulder, Colorado.&nbsp; Her early years she lived in Colorado and Idaho and then moved to Onaga, Kansas with her family during grade school.&nbsp; 

She met James Hay at church in middle school who later became her husband. 

In high school, she was voted homecoming queen one year, and she also played basketball and softball. She participated in 4-H and Future Homemakers of America, as well as other school-related activities and organizations.&nbsp; Rita graduated from Emporia Teachers College in 1961 and went on to teach two years in Littleton, Colorado and one year in Hope, Kansas.

Rita and James united in marriage on October 21, 1962, in Onaga, Kansas. They moved to Herington, Kansas and had three children together. She encouraged their children to participate in everything from sports, church, friendships, music, and community activities that they had interests in and actively supported each of them every way she could.&nbsp; 

She was a skilled crafter and cook and had a lifelong love of creating. She was a seamstress and sewed everything form Sunday dresses, prom dresses to maid of honor and bridesmaids dresses. She created banners and crafts for First Baptist Church. &nbsp;She loved gardening, canning, creating floral arrangements, and painting, and used these skills for personal enjoyment as well as in different jobs she had over the years. When her grandchildren came into her life, she attended their events whenever she could and found great joy in spending time with each of them.

She was a humble servant of God and active at the Herington First Baptist Church where she and Jim were members for over 58 years. She volunteered in leadership roles in Sunday School, Guild Girls, and Vacation Bible School. She spent time on ABW projects, attended bible study, Circle Meetings, and enjoyed helping with AWANA in her later years.

Together, Rita and Jim traveled extensively in the United States their entire marriage.&nbsp; They planned family trips every summer, but Rita had a special love for Colorado.&nbsp; In 2001, they built a second home in Buena Vista, Colorado where they spent as much time as possible.&nbsp;&nbsp; Jim and Rita were married for almost 60 years.

Rita, at the age of 82, passed away in Colorado. 

She is survived by her mother Hazel Wyss; children Rex (Karen) Hay, Renae Hay, and Rosalyn (Jay) Lane; grandchildren Megan Hay, Shelby Hay, Aaron Lane, Abigail Hay, Cassie Lane, Benjamin Hay, Montgomery Hay, and Caoimhe Hay; great-grandchild Zander; siblings KC (Jean) Corcoran, Monty (Rose Marie) Wyss, Gary (Marilyn) Wyss, Jim (Jodi) Wyss, Carla (Ray) Hickman; and many nieces and nephews.

 Rita is preceded in death by her husband James Hay; father Lawrence Corcoran; dad Bob Wyss; grandson Proinsias Hay; siblings LJ Corcoran, and Linda (John) Harris.

Family will receive guests on Monday, August 29, 2022, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, 404 S. Broadway, Herington, KS 67449. Funeral services will take place Tuesday, August 30, at the First Baptist Church of Herington at 10:00 a.m. with graveside services to follow at Mitchell Valley Cemetery east of Herington. In high school, she was voted homecoming queen one year, and she also played basketball and softball. She participated in 4-H and Future Homemakers of America, as well as other school-related activities and organizations.&nbsp; Rita graduated from Emporia Teachers College in 1961 and went on to teach two years in Littleton, Colorado and one year in Hope, Kansas.Rita and James united in marriage on October 21, 1962, in Onaga, Kansas. They moved to Herington, Kansas and had three children together. She encouraged their children to participate in everything from sports, church, friendships, music, and community activities that they had interests in and actively supported each of them every way she could.&nbsp; She was a skilled crafter and cook and had a lifelong love of creating. She was a seamstress and sewed everything form Sunday dresses, prom dresses to maid of honor and bridesmaids dresses. She created banners and crafts for First Baptist Church. &nbsp;She loved gardening, canning, creating floral arrangements, and painting, and used these skills for personal enjoyment as well as in different jobs she had over the years. When her grandchildren came into her life, she attended their events whenever she could and found great joy in spending time with each of them.She was a humble servant of God and active at the Herington First Baptist Church where she and Jim were members for over 58 years. She volunteered in leadership roles in Sunday School, Guild Girls, and Vacation Bible School. She spent time on ABW projects, attended bible study, Circle Meetings, and enjoyed helping with AWANA in her later years.Together, Rita and Jim traveled extensively in the United States their entire marriage.&nbsp; They planned family trips every summer, but Rita had a special love for Colorado.&nbsp; In 2001, they built a second home in Buena Vista, Colorado where they spent as much time as possible.&nbsp;&nbsp; Jim and Rita were married for almost 60 years.Rita, at the age of 82, passed away in Colorado. She is survived by her mother Hazel Wyss; children Rex (Karen) Hay, Renae Hay, and Rosalyn (Jay) Lane; grandchildren Megan Hay, Shelby Hay, Aaron Lane, Abigail Hay, Cassie Lane, Benjamin Hay, Montgomery Hay, and Caoimhe Hay; great-grandchild Zander; siblings KC (Jean) Corcoran, Monty (Rose Marie) Wyss, Gary (Marilyn) Wyss, Jim (Jodi) Wyss, Carla (Ray) Hickman; and many nieces and nephews.
