LaVern D. Penner, 77, of Buhler, KS, and formerly of Inman, KS, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 22, 2022, surrounded by family at Harry Hynes Hospice Center, Wichita. LaVern owned and operated Penner’s Grain & Distributing, a custom harvesting business. He then was an independent truck driver for many years.
LaVern was born on January 25, 1945, in Hutchinson, KS, the son of Arnold C. and Hilda A. (Stucky) Penner.
He graduated from Central Christian High School in Hutchinson, KS.
On April 2, 1965, LaVern was united in marriage to Patricia “Pat” Pauline Whitaker in Buhler, KS. This union was blessed with two sons, Rodney and Raymond.
He attended the Buhler Mennonite Church.
Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Pat, of the home; two sons, Rodney Penner (Sarah Orem) of Buhler, KS and Raymond Penner (Emilie) of Hutchinson, KS; a brother, Larry Penner (Jean) of Inman, KS; eight grandchildren, Rhett Penner (Stephanie), Saraya Johnson (Aaron), Hadyn Penner, Riggin Penner, Reval Penner, Dalton Orem, Marissa Orem, and Dakota Orem; seven great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Arnold Penner; mother Hilda Schroeder; and a brother, Donald Lee Penner.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 3, with a funeral service beginning at 10:30 a.m., all at the Buhler Mennonite Church, 220 West Av.e B, Buhler, KS with Pastor Willmar Harder officiating. Burial will follow at the Buhler Municipal Cemetery.
