John Nicholas Kaus was born May 20, 1940, on the Kaus farm by Selden, KS
 to Nick Kaus and Mary (Kamphaus) Kaus. He passed away July 21, 2022, at
 his home in Seguin at the age of eighty-two. He graduated from the 
eighth grade while he was farming for his dad. He joined the Army on 
February 15, 1961 and served as a Specialist E4 at Fort Leonard Wood, 
Missouri for 2 years. 

When he returned home, he met and married Marilyn 
Joyce Ramsey on May 16, 1964, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in 
Colby, KS. The couple began their married life together on the Kaus farm 
where John continued farming and raising sheep, which he loved. To this 
union were born five children: John, Margaret, Juanita, Marvin, and 
Nicholas.
 John never met a stranger and treated everyone like a neighbor. 
Whether he was shearing sheep or attending a kid’s ballgame, he would 
strike up a conversation and make one walk away feeling like they had 
made a new friend. John sheared sheep in Kansas and Nebraska. The 
highlight of his life was helping to shear 4-H lambs for the county 
fairs across Kansas. John had a passion for his family. Some of the 
family’s best memories are fishing at Sheridan County Lake and Norton 
Lake and attending county fairs as John loved to see the livestock and 
ride the rides. John was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American 
Legion, the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Selden and the Saint Martin 
of Tours Catholic Church of Seguin KS. He served on the Parish Council 
and Finance Council and was an Usher. In his early years, John regularly
 served as an Alter Boy. John was an avid supporter of the American Red 
Cross Blood drive with eighty-two units of blood donated.
 John was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Nick; Sisters 
Melvina Carssow and Elanor Schiltz; and daughter- in- law JoLinn Kaus.
 He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of the home; children, John Kaus
 of Manhattan, KS, Margaret (Eric) Corby of Salina, KS, Juanita (Kenny) 
Erickson of Neodesha, KS, Marvin (Kerri) Kaus of Seguin, KS and Nick 
Kaus of Selden, KS; sisters, Eileen Neff of North Platte, NE, Joan 
Schwarz of Colby, KS and Kathleen Zerr of Colby, KS; seven Grandchildren
 and five Great-Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
 A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for Wednesday, July 27, 2022, 
at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Seguin, Kansas at 10:00 A.M. 
Following the service burial will be in the Selden Cemetery, Selden, 
Kansas. A lunch will follow in the Selden Parish Hall. Visitation will 
be held Tuesday, July 26, 2022, from 1:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. with

Dale Jost (born Marvin Dale Jost) was born to Marvin Gerhard Jost and Rosella Franz Jost on June 28, 1944 in Reedley, CA. Dale grew up in a loving home and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior when he was a teenager. Dale attended Hillsboro High School and later Tabor College in Hillsboro, KS. In college he played basketball, studied finance, and worked on wheat harvest crews in the summers.

While at Tabor he met the love of his life Katheryn Shirley Dick from Mountain Lake, MN. Upon graduating in 1966, Dale started his career in finance with the Kansas Department of Transportation.

Later that year, Dale and Shirley were married on November 25 in Mountain Lake, MN. In 1974, they welcomed twin sons Travis and Bruce into the family. Dale’s professional career with KDOT (his sole employer) spanned 42 years, 6 months, and 6 days. He valued stewarding government resources to better the roadways of the state of Kansas. Dale and Shirley were longtime members of Cornerstone Community Church in Topeka, KS up until their relocation to Hesston, KS in 2014. While living in Hesston they enjoyed meeting new friends, reconnecting with seasoned friends and being closer to their children and grandchildren. In retirement, Dale enjoyed cooking, good coffee, discovering fine foods, organizing his records, leading the family book club, and attending any and all grandchildren activities. In June of 2022, he traveled with Shirley to visit their son Travis in Burundi, Africa. Dale was thrilled to see Travis in his environment and while there received the joy of Christ through the Burundi people.

After an accidental fall, he had a successful surgery but succumbed to complications during the recovery. He died on June 22, 2022. A private burial service was conducted at French Creek Cemetery near Hillsboro, KS.

A Celebration of Life service will be at Ridgepoint Church in Wichita, KS on August 13, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. 

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts can be made to Tabor College, Multiply, or Mennonite Central Committee. Dale is survived by his wife Shirley, sons Travis and Bruce (Kimberlee), granddaughters Ella and Talia, sisters Loretta Neufeld (Gaylen) and Cheryl McJunkin (Larry), sisters-in-law Colleen Jost, Marion Graumann, and Verla Dick, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Dorothy Woellhof, 93 died July 20, 2022, in Clay Center, KS.&nbsp; She was born on January 17, 1929 in Aurora, KS the daughter of Charles and Rosa (Bliss) Demanett.&nbsp; 

Dorothy was raised in the Aurora community before moving to Clay Center in 1947.&nbsp;

 She worked at the Swift Egg Plant and Sunflower Café before moving to Salina in 1950.&nbsp; There, she met and married Melvin Woellhof on October 29, 1950.&nbsp; They returned to Clay Center and Dorothy took a job as the cook for Garfield School.&nbsp; She retired from school food service in 1992.&nbsp; 

Melvin preceded her in death on December 29, 2007.&nbsp; Dorothy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and active in bowling leagues in Clay Center for over 40 years.&nbsp; 

She was also preceded in death by her parents, six sisters and seven brothers.

Wanda’s life began on August 11, 1930, in Holdenville, OK. She was the daughter of Chris W. and Lillie (Hair) Haviland. 

She was united in marriage to George Waner of Florence, KS on August 14, 1949, and they enjoyed 65 wonderful years of marriage. Wanda and George moved to Junction City where they were active in St. Xavier’s Catholic Church for many years. 

Wanda had a sense of fairness, honesty and compassion that will be sorely missed by her family. She also enjoyed baking and sharing goodies with her friends. 

Wanda is survived by her eldest son Andrew W. Waner of El Paso and daughter Teresa (Randy) Koster of Perry, IA and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Wanda passed away on July 14, 2022, at Casa Prima Vera Nursing Home in El Paso. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband George, and sons James and Kenneth. 

The family will gather with friends on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, from 12 noon until 1 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Florence, KS where a rosary prayer will be offered at 12:30 p.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. celebrated by Father Andrew Bergkamp. She will be laid to rest next to George at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Florence. 

Yazel Megli Funeral Home is serving the family.

She was the daughter of Chris W. and Lillie (Hair) Haviland. She was united in marriage to George Waner of Florence, KS on August 14, 1949, and they enjoyed 65 wonderful years of marriage. Wanda and George moved to Junction City where they were active in St. Xavier’s Catholic Church for many years. Wanda had a sense of fairness, honesty and compassion that will be sorely missed by her family. She also enjoyed baking and sharing goodies with her friends. Wanda is survived by her eldest son Andrew W. Waner of El Paso and daughter Teresa (Randy) Koster of Perry, IA and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Wanda passed away on July 14, 2022, at Casa Prima Vera Nursing Home in El Paso. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband George, and sons James and Kenneth. Ronald “Ron” G. Gosselin, age 62, entered into rest on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, in Concordia, Kansas. He was born on June 22, 1960 in Concordia, Kansas to Almer and Zella (Comeau) Gosselin.

Ron attended Concordia schools during his youth.

Ron was a member of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus, both of Concordia, Kansas.

Ron worked at the local Walmart for almost 30 years as a store associate; he helped with keeping the store shelves stocked and unloaded the trucks.

Ron was a avid KU fan; he loved the Jayhawks.&nbsp; Ron was a true fan of all sporting events in the Concordia community. He truly enjoyed attending and supporting the local Panthers and T-Birds activities.&nbsp; Ron also loved going to the local fairs and rodeos as a fan and worker helping keep the grounds clean and tidy.&nbsp; Ron enjoyed celebrating his birthday every year and having a party. He greatly appreciated all his support from the Concordia community.

Ron is survived by his sister Theresa Hoffhines (Michael), Salina, KS; sister Betty Hahn (Tom), Oviedo, FL; brother Gerry Gosselin (Cynthia), Salina, KS; brother Lawrence Gosselin, Oxford, KS; brother Don Gosselin, Beloit, KS; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by his parents, a sister, Patricia., and a brother, Dale.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 25, 2022 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia, Kansas with Fr. David Metz officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Concordia Catholic Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas.

Richard L. “Dick” Cyphers, age 81, entered into rest on Sunday, July 17, 2022, at the Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas. He was born on March 25, 1941 in Concordia, Kansas to Mike and Dorothea (Lanoue) Cyphers.

Dick went to high school in McCook, Nebraska until his senior year.&nbsp; The family moved to Concordia and Dick was a 1959 graduate of Concordia High School, Concordia, Kansas. He also attended Brown Mackie College in Salina, Kansas studying business.

On April 23, 1961 he married Phyllis R. McGinnis in Concordia, Kansas.&nbsp; They celebrated 61 years of marriage this past April.&nbsp; To this union three children were born, Eric, Stephanie and Jeff.

Dick was a school bus driver for USD 333 Concordia for 42 years and spent the last 18 years driving the special needs school bus.&nbsp; He also was an area farmer until moving into town in 1988.

He was a past member of the Elks and Moose Lodge.

Dick’s hobbies include brick carving, where he had a hand in creating the downtown carved brick mural, crocheting, knitting, drawing, arts, and working with stained glass. Dick also loved to dance and he and Phyllis spent many years enjoying polka and ballroom dancing.

Survivors include his wife Phyllis and faithful companion JoJo of the home in Concordia, KS; son Eric Cyphers (Meliss), Yucaipa, CA; daughter Stephanie Scheele (Jeff), Bennington, KS; son Jeff Cyphers, Jamestown, KS; sister Patricia Wright (Dee), Palm Harbor, FL; nine grandchildren, Callie, Tami, Kimi, Brittany, Lucas, Linsey, Deric, Brittany and Marissa; seven great-grandchildren, Aiden, Lee, Owen, Lexie, Reagan, Dillon, and Clayton.

 The family moved to Salina in 1954 to start her father's business, Jim Sullivan Chevrolet. Tracey truly enjoyed being able to drive all of the latest models of the Chevrolet line growing up and later on helped with the bookkeeping for the business until being sold in 1982.

After returning from a brief move to Denver to be close to her sister Terry, she had various jobs in Salina but enjoyed volunteering her time at the Scheme Restaurant for lunches the most; she always said that it allowed her to keep up with close friends. 

She was loved by her husband, Jeff, her family, and her many friends.

There was a graveside service held with only family members in attendance. Tracey requested that there be no service for her; instead she would like for you to do some random act of kindness for a stranger in her honor.

Tracey was preceded in death by her parents Jim and Eleanore Sullivan and sister Terry Sullivan.

Tracey is survived by her husband Jeff Lemaster and stepchildren Jamie Steele, Jacob Lemaster and granddaughter Josie Steele. She is also survived by her brother Mike Sullivan (wife Mary), two nieces and six grandnieces and nephews.

Doris "Dode" Marie (Moore) Gallion&nbsp;was born on August 9, 1930 in Hunter, Kansas to Forrest and Beulah Beryl (Baird) Moore of Hunter, Kansas. She was their third child. She departed this life peacefully on Saturday, July 16 at Pinnacle Park in Salina, Kansas at the age of 91 years. 

Doris attended school in Hunter and graduated from Hunter High School in 1948. She began teaching in Ash Grove after graduation. 

She was a baptized in the Hunter United Methodist Church. She became a faithful and active member of the church throughout her life in Hunter. 

On March 2, 1952, Doris Moore married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Gale Edward Gallion. To this union, three children were born: Brenda Gayle, Kirk Dale, and JD. Sadly, Doris lost her beloved Gale on June 12, 1959.

Once her children were in school, Doris worked at the post office in Hunter while taking night classes and summer school from Marymount College in Salina. With grit and determination, Doris graduated from Marymount with a BS in elementary education in 1968. She began teaching in Lincoln, Kansas the following school year. In 1978, she continued her career by accepting a 2nd grade teaching position at USD 299 at Sylvan Unified. She later would teach Language Arts for the school district. 

“Mrs. Gallion” taught hundreds of children throughout her and held a warm spot for each one. She thoroughly loved teaching the children. She retired from public education in 1993. However, the lessons she taught continue to this day. 

Doris was a member of the Hunter United Methodist Church, the Hunter Ladies Auxiliary and the Bluebirds. She was a 4-H cooking leader. Dode was a dancer! She spent many nights driving “the ladies” to area singles’ dances. She loved movies, especially the ones with Elvis Presley. Viva Las Vegas being her favorite! But her pride and joys were her children and grandchildren! What a supporter she has been through the years!

Dode was well known for a lot of things, many of which have to do with food! Her tasty pies and cookies (notably her coconut cream pie which became a staple at the Legion Hall for the Hunter pheasant dinners), her delectable divinity, the seemingly endless supply of ice cream and Schwann’s treats in the freezer and of course… her popcorn balls! Kids (and parents alike) would make their way to Dode’s front door on Halloween (and sometimes Christmas)!

Doris was preceded in death by her husband Gale, her parents Frosty and Beryl, her father-in-law and mother-in-law Orval and Inez Gallion, her brothers Jerry Moore and Don Moore, sisters-in-law Eldora Seehafer and Wanda Moore, brother-in-law Melvin Seehafer and granddaughter, Ginny Mae Frederking. 

She will be forever lovingly remembered by her daughter Brenda (Alex) Andresen, Salina, Kansas; sons Kirk (Pam) Gallion, Mahaska, Kansas; and J.D. Kindra was a 1991 graduate of Southeast of Saline and she attended Barton County Community College for one year before being recruited to Southwest Missouri State University to play basketball. She worked as a pharmaceutical representative for many years and at the time of her death she was working as a tissue regeneration specialist for Organogenesis.

Kindra had a vibrant energy with a no-slack playful spirit and sharp humor. She had a generous heart and cared deeply about her faith and family, especially her children. If you knew her, then she definitely left an imprint on your life.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Francis “Pat” and Thelma Garst and her maternal grandfather, Donald “Tobe” Boss.

Survivors are her children Ledger and Schuyler Rose; parents Dale and Linda Garst; maternal grandmother Donna Boss; brother Kyle Garst and his wife Julie, and daughter Adelyn; and many other family members and countless friends.

Vernon Randall “Randy” Lisewski, 74, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2022, in Lincoln. He was born September 21, 1947, in Chicago, IL to Vernon Thomas Lisewski and Alice Rose (Abrant) Lisewski.

 Randy married Donna Lee Rayl on December 18, 1980, in Lincoln. 

Randy was a retired track man for the railroad. He served his country in the U.S .Navy and was a member of the VFW.

Randy is survived by his wife Donna of Lincoln; stepson Rick Zachgo of Rexford, NY; and sisters Alice Ransome and Shirley Gonzales.

William “Billy” Errette Day, 70, of Salina, and a life-long resident of Lincoln County, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2022. Billy was born on March 18, 1952, in Lincoln, KS, to Wilborn “Bill” and Mary Jane Day. 

Billy grew up in the Westfall area attending elementary school in Lincoln and Westfall, Jr. High in Beverly, and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1971. He attended Salina Area Vocational-Technical School, graduating with a welding degree in 1972. 

His first job was with Mid-American Boiler and then he worked for Grain Belt Supply. He later joined his father in the family farming and ranching operation before retiring in 2009.

Billy is preceded in death by his parents Wilborn and Mary Jane, and his faithful, protective dog, J.C. 

He is survived by brother Michael Day (Cindy K), of Wichita; sisters Cindy Day of Salina, and Nancy Rasmussen (Greg) of Manhattan; niece Erin Rohr (Michael) of Boston, MA; nephew Neal Rasmussen (Sydney); great-niece Sutton Mae Rasmussen of Minneapolis, MN; and Uncle Jack Meili (Lavon) of Beverly, KS.

As a youth Billy was actively involved in 4-H and DeMolay International. He served his community as a volunteer firefighter for the Westfall Fire Department and served two terms on the Lincoln County Farm Bureau Board. He was a 50+ year member of Farm Bureau, a member of the Kansas Livestock Association and the Ellsworth Catbackers. In 1984 he received the Lincoln County Soil Conservation Kansas Bankers Award.

Billy enjoyed his years farming and ranching and was most proud of his livestock. His other passions included his love of dogs - always having one by his side, old Western movies, and word search puzzles. He loved attending and watching rodeos and never missed the Kansas State Fair. Billy kept up with local and national weather and his friends and family could always count on him to share the most recent weather forecast.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 22 at Prairie Mound Cemetery, Ellsworth County, KS. Exit Interstate 70 at Exit #233, go south 1/2 mile, turn east, and go 1 mile.

Michael Norbert Pahls was born on March 9, 1954 in Beloit, Kansas, the son of Edward and Cecelia “Sis” Engelbert Pahls. He died on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at his home in Beloit at the age of 68.

Mike grew up in Tipton where he graduated from high school. Upon graduation, he attended the Vo-Tech in Beloit, where earned a degree in carpentry. He briefly moved back to Tipton before moving to Glasco, where he spent the majority of the rest of his life.

While in Glasco he owned and operated his own general carpentry business before working 16 years for Natural Gas and Pipeline. Mike later worked for Carrico Implement in Beloit before returning to his carpentry business.

Mike was active in the community as a volunteer firefighter and competitor on club archery and trap teams, as well as hunter safety instructor. He was also one of the founders of Tappan Hill Black Powder Cartridge Rifle, Inc. near Glasco. Although Mike loved the outdoors with a special passion for shooting, hunting, fishing, and camping, his pride and joy were his three grandchildren.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his son Adam and his wife Lindsay of Derby; three grandchildren, Wyatt Michael, Finley Grace, and Adelyn Marie; his siblings Reta Schroeder of Beloit, Joe of Smith Center, Marilyn Goheen of Minneapolis, Betty and husband Tim Eilert of Beloit, and Patrick Pahls and Michelle Serra of Littleton, Colorado; 12 special nieces and nephews; and a host of great relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 21 at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Tipton. A parish rosary service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church, and visitation will be from 5 p.m. until the rosary service begins. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the church.

Mary Lou loved to cook and bake. She loved sharing her treats with neighbors, friends, and family. She also got special joy cooking with her grandchildren. Throughout her life, she cared for friends and family who were sick or elderly.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for many years.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents; her son Michael Shamburg in infancy; and her granddaughter Elizabeth Shamburg in infancy.

She is survived by her sons Curtis and wife Dee Shamburg of Portis, Kevin and wife Joleta Shamburg of Salina, and Kirby and wife Colleen Shamburg of Randall, special sister-in-law Gloria Hanson of Concordia; grandchildren Jeffrey, Bryan, Adam, Erica, Richard, Lucan, Caiten, Dacie, Vanan, Mica, Ellivia, and Tullar as well as stepgrandchildren, great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Vivian Louise (Heller) Sackhoff was born on April 1, 1936, on a farm near Hunter, Kansas, to Walter and Lydia (Little) Heller.&nbsp; She passed away on July 16, 2022, in Conway, Arkansas surrounded by family members.&nbsp; She had one sister, Maxine Strawn.&nbsp;

She spent most of her life on a farm that her grandparents homesteaded, where her parents lived as she grew up, then where she and Don made their home. 

She married her high school sweetheart, Don Sackhoff, on July 20, 1958.&nbsp; They enjoyed many bus trips and camping by the Arkansas river.&nbsp; They were together for 48 years until Don passed away in 2006.&nbsp; They had four children, Richard (Holly) Sackhoff of Wichita, Tamara (Steven) McMillan of Conway, Jeff (Annette) Sackhoff of Conway and Debra (Rick) McLay of Topeka.&nbsp; Family was very important, and she loved spending time with all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

Vivian graduated from Hunter High School in 1954 and attended Kansas State and Kansas State Teachers College.&nbsp; 

She then taught in Abilene, where the Eisenhower Information Center sits now, from 1956 to 1957.&nbsp; She was one of the first teachers to move into the new Hunter Elementary School in 1957, where she taught first grade until she and Don started their family.&nbsp; Once all her children were in school, she managed the Hunter Café for several years, worked at JCPenney, Mill Street Emporium and retired after ten years at the Farmway Credit Union in Beloit. &nbsp;After retirement she moved to Wichita and enjoyed spending time with her family, neighbors, and volunteering at the Klothes Kloset.

She was a member of Grace Chapel United Methodist Church in Hunter where she held offices in both UMW and UMC.&nbsp; She also became a member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Wichita.&nbsp; She was the Hunter Alumni Secretary for 36 years from 1973-2009.

Vivian was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, neighbor, and friend.&nbsp; &nbsp;She has known simply as “Mom” by many of them. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, sister, and husband.&nbsp; 

She is survived by her four children, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, four foster great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 23 at the Grace Chapel United Methodist Church in Hunter followed by burial in Greenwood Union Cemetery. There will be no visitation, and the casket will remain closed. 

Memorials may be given to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance.

She married her high school sweetheart, Don Sackhoff, on July 20, 1958.&nbsp; They enjoyed many bus trips and camping by the Arkansas river.&nbsp; They were together for 48 years until Don passed away in 2006.&nbsp; They had four children, Richard (Holly) Sackhoff of Wichita, Tamara (Steven) McMillan of Conway, Jeff (Annette) Sackhoff of Conway and Debra (Rick) McLay of Topeka.&nbsp; Family was very important, and she loved spending time with all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.&nbsp;Vivian graduated from Hunter High School in 1954 and attended Kansas State and Kansas State Teachers College.&nbsp; She then taught in Abilene, where the Eisenhower Information Center sits now, from 1956 to 1957.&nbsp; She was one of the first teachers to move into the new Hunter Elementary School in 1957, where she taught first grade until she and Don started their family.&nbsp; Once all her children were in school, she managed the Hunter Café for several years, worked at JCPenney, Mill Street Emporium and retired after ten years at the Farmway Credit Union in Beloit. &nbsp;After retirement she moved to Wichita and enjoyed spending time with her family, neighbors, and volunteering at the Klothes Kloset.She was a member of Grace Chapel United Methodist Church in Hunter where she held offices in both UMW and UMC.&nbsp; She also became a member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Wichita.&nbsp; She was the Hunter Alumni Secretary for 36 years from 1973-2009.Vivian was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, neighbor, and friend.&nbsp; &nbsp;She has known simply as “Mom” by many of them. &nbsp;&nbsp;Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, sister, and husband.&nbsp; She is survived by her four children, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, four foster great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 23 at the Grace Chapel United Methodist Church in Hunter followed by burial in Greenwood Union Cemetery. There will be no visitation, and the casket will remain closed.
