Carl E. Reed, 93, of Lombard, IL, formerly of Elmhurst, IL, passed away November 15, 2022. 

Beloved husband of the late Betty M. Reed (nee Murrell) of 67 years. Loving father of Carla S. Reed, Michael E. (Kim) Reed and the late Robert A. Reed. Cherished grandfather of Hannah and Emily. 

He was a past member of Visitation Marathon Couples Bridge Club, Elmhurst Presbyterian Church and Courts Plus Fitness Center. 

Carl is a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War and retired Nabisco employee. 

Interment will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Salina, KS, at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, November 22, 2022.

Dorothy Ann McLeighton of Salina passed away on November 9, 2022, to be with the Lord.&nbsp; She was born on December 1, 1934, to William and Antonio Groth in Sylvan Grove, Kansas.&nbsp;

Dorothy graduated from Sylvan Grove High School.&nbsp; She married Robert McLeighton on March 20, 1955.&nbsp; They were married for 67 years.

Dorothy loved to travel and spend time with her family.&nbsp; She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She is survived by two children, Kim Cunningham (Skip) of Ely, Nevada, and Kevin McLeighton (Shirley) of Salina; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister Bernita Schmidt of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and many nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; three brothers, Elmer, Ronald, and Harold; and three sisters, Gertrude Weseloh, Hilma Daugherty, and Arlene Layne.&nbsp;

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, December 9, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 702 S. Ninth Street, Salina.&nbsp;

Dorothy Ann McLeighton

Mrs. Gloria Joyce Vassion, age 83 of Bemidji, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at her home Wednesday morning September 7, 2022.

She was born on January 1, 1939 in Long Beach California to Bart and Marie Chickering.

As toddlers, Gloria and her brother Bart were asked to be a part of the cast for the movie Swiss Robinson Family; however, her parents decided against it. Gloria grew up listening to Big Band Music which her father played in. She loved to go camping at Big Bear, and to go skiing at Shasta Lake in Redding California. Her family moved up to Happy Valley, CA on a farm and this is where her love for animals began. She would always talk about her cow named Ballie. Her favorite activity in high school was roller skating. She would go every weekend with her brother Bart. During high school she worked at the Cascade movie theatre and graduated from Anderson High School in 1957.

Gloria met her Husband Chris after high school who was from Redding, California. Gloria and Chris married on June 9, 1962 at the First Nazarene Church in Salina Kansas. Chris was stationed at Schilling Air Force Base and they decided to make Salina their home. Gloria and Chris have three children, Pam, Todd, and Timothy. She worked at Elmore center and then took a job at Westinghouse, which then became Philips Lighting, and retired after 38 years of service. She made lifetime friends at Philips Lighting and took pride in her job.

Gloria enjoyed traveling and one of her favorite places was Estes Park, Colorado. This became a frequent family destination as she would take her family there often, and would listen to the Grease Soundtrack the whole way there. Gloria also enjoyed going on cruises with her husband Chris, the Cayman Islands were one of their favorites.

Gloria loved spending time with her grandchildren, which included watching them play sports, roller skating, or hanging out and eating cheesecake. She was always involved in their lives and traveled to watch them play their respective college sports.

Gloria loved animals throughout her life, as she had many dogs, cats and birds. She enjoyed planting flowers and working in her pond, where she had turtles and fish.

Gloria will truly be missed and was so very much loved by her family.

Gloria is survived by her husband Chris of 62 years, daughter Pamela Bellew, son-in-law Timothy Bellew, son Todd Vassion, daughter-in-law Jasmine Vassion, son Timothy Vassion, brother Bart Chickering, Sister-in-law Lora Chickering, and four grandchildren; Mason, Claudia, Alex, Chris.

Memorial Service to be held in Salina, Kansas at Emmanuel Foursquare Church on November 26, 2022, at 1:00pm.

Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Pfeifer, 89, Hays, died Monday, November 21, 2022, at Via Christi Village.

She was born May 23, 1933, in Hays, the 
middle child of fifteen children of Leo E. and Martha (Etzel) Karlin.&nbsp; 
On August 31, 1959 she was united in marriage to Don J. Pfeifer in 
Victoria, and they celebrated over 37 years of marriage before he 
preceded her in death on January 11, 1997.&nbsp; She and her husband owned 
and operated Pfeifer’s Jewelry and Gifts in Victoria.&nbsp; Her memberships 
included St. Joseph Catholic Church of Hays, The Basilica of St. Fidelis
 of Victoria, the Secular Order of Franciscans, and CSA.&nbsp; Betty Ann and 
her family cooked at St. Joseph Military Academy, and she volunteered at
 St. John’s Rest Home and Cedarview Assisted Living.&nbsp; She loved to cook,
 enjoyed flowers, traveling, and having fun with her extended bowling 
family.&nbsp; Betty Ann was Don’s biggest cheerleader and was beloved by her 
nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Survivors include two brothers:&nbsp; Tom 
Karlin and wife Laura of Eatonville, WA, John Karlin of Hillsboro, OR, 
five sisters-in-law: Arlene Karlin of Great Bend, Nadine Karlin of 
Beloit, Sharon Karlin of Salina, Rose Guercio of Victoria, and Donna 
Simoneau of Hays, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great 
nephews.

She was preceded in death by her 
parents, husband Don, eight brothers: Felix, Leroy, infant Norman, 
infant Gerard, Herb, Peter, Larry, and Fred Karlin, and four sisters: 
Sister Leonissa Karlin, Katie Dreiling, Sister Mary Martha Karlin, and 
Martha Jean Biegler.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 
2:00 pm on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at The Basilica of St. Fidelis,

Elizabeth 'Betty' Ann Pfeifer

Elsie Beiser, age 98, of Ellis, Kansas passed away Friday, November 18, 2022, at Hays Medical Center. She was born August 25, 1924, north of Ellis, Kansas, in rural Ellis County to Henry and Jennie (Zachman) Keller.&nbsp;

Elsie was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church north of Ellis. Her confirmation was the last class taught in German. She attended the Cottonwood Grove one room country school and graduated from Ellis High School in 1943.

Elsie married Roy “Buck” Huffman August 22, 1948, and they had two children, Phyllis and Phil. After Roy passed away Elsie married and was preceded in death by two husbands, David Ehrlich, and Dale Beiser.

Elsie’s remarkable life had her living through WWII, dust storms, the depression, and the Ellis flood of 1957.&nbsp; She and her husband Roy owned Ellis Liquor Store for many years. She worked with the Census, was involved with the Russell VFW, and loved to campaign for Bob Dole. She was also part of the Ladies Auxiliary and American Legion.

Elsie was known by many, never knew a stranger and was one to never judge. She loved her family and took great joy in the holidays, birthdays, and activities with all of them. She had many hobbies such as cooking, canning, dancing, sports, a good debate over politics, traveling to the Ozarks and enjoying the outdoors and simply being the life of the party. &nbsp;

Elsie was a part of several families lives and loved them all. On Memorial Day she often joked she had to pack a lunch to get to every grave and make sure they were properly decorated. Elsie’s strong faith and caring heart allowed her to truly be a lifelong caretaker of many family members and friends.&nbsp;

Elsie is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Werger and husband Gregg of Casper, Wyoming; her son, Phil Huffman of Dodge City, Kansas; grandchildren, Sarah Brogden of Ellis, Kassie Cobley of Denver and Megan (Cole) Gerlach of Scott City. Elsie had a special place in her heart for Mike and Sharon Weigel and their three daughters, Sheldon Bennett, Justine Evans and Graci Weigel as well as numerous great grandchildren and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Roy Huffman, David Ehrlich and Dale Beiser; brothers, Wendell, Gerhard, Henry, and Reinhard Keller; and sisters, Hilda Young and Johanna Myers.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at Christ Lutheran Church in Ellis. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Ellis.

Visitation will be Tuesday 9 AM - 11 AM at the church.

Elsie Beiser

John Dale Apel (Dale) passed away on November 15, 2022, in Lindsborg, Kansas, at the age of 93. 

Born in Wichita, KS, he grew up on rural farms in Chautauqua and Elk Counties and graduated from Sedan High School after significant involvement in 4-H and Future Farmers of America. 

He earned his bachelor of science in agriculture from Kansas State Agricultural College (later Kansas State University), and later achieved a master of arts degree in communications and social psychology from American University in Washington, D.C., and a Ph.D. in adult education from the University of Chicago. 

     Dale began his more than 45-year career with the 4-H Foundation and the Kansas State University Cooperative Extension Service, 4-H and Youth Development Department, during his Kansas State College summers when he served as an Emergency Assistant 4-H Agent. His interest continued when he was selected as one of four Kansan delegates to the National 4-H Camp in Washington, D.C. 

Shortly after graduating from K-State, Dale worked as editor of the South Dakota Bureau Farming and as a lobbyist for the South Dakota Farm Bureau. His 4-H extension service was briefly interrupted when Dale served two years in the Korean War effort between 1951-1953. He served as a cryptographer in Taegu, Korea, with the U.S. Military Advisory Group to the Republic of Korea Army. 

     In 1953, Dale returned to Kansas and continued his service to the 4-H Foundation and KSU’s 4-H Extension. He worked as an agent in Morris and Saline Counties before briefly serving as the editor for the Kansas 4-H Journal in Manhattan. He built his adult life in Manhattan, serving 4-H as a specialist and most of his career as the associate state leader. His 4-H responsibilities included staff (volunteer and professional) development and program development, and was focused on building 4-H member retention initiatives. His advanced studies at American University and the University of Chicago led him to believe strongly in the importance of “self-set” goals as the key for 4-H member retention, as well as the basis for anyone’s career and life self-fulfillment.  

     Dale married 4-H Extension colleague Mary Dean Holle in 1961. They settled in Manhattan and raised three children, John William, Dean Marsh, and Ellen Ann. Dale and Mary Dean divorced in 1990.

     Dale was the co-founder of Kansas Evergreens, Inc. What began as a “Christmas tree farm” evolved to offer wholesale pine trees and household plant sales to major retailers in Colorado, New Mexico, and Kansas. From 1961 to the mid-1980s, the entire family was involved in raising trees and plants. Apel Road near St. George marks the place where Christmas trees were once grown.

     Upon retirement, Dale relocated to Overland Park, Kansas. 

He pursued a great number of personal interests including voraciously reading books of all kinds, and matting and framing pictures and prints. Dale became engrossed in genealogy and worked to develop a written history of his mother’s family, the Encells. He also worked for several years in tax return preparation. 

Dale developed a specific interest in the theatre and met his second wife, Shirley Tucker, while ushering for a dinner theatre. They married in March 2002, at Village Presbyterian Church and settled into her home in Overland Park. They shared a passion for day-trading, small dogs, their church, and the Kansas City Chiefs, but Dale never quite adopted Shirley’s passion for fishing. 

     Shortly after Shirley’s death in 2021, Dale moved to Lindsborg, KS, to be closer to family. While in Lindsborg he enjoyed being near Saline County (one of his first areas of responsibility as a 4-H County Agent), being surrounded by Swedish culture, and pursuing a discipline of daily visits to the gym.

     Dale is preceded in death by his parents John George Apel, Jr. and Eleanor Dryden Encell Apel, first wife Mary Dean Holle Apel, wife Shirley Tucker Apel, brother (Paul) Encell Apel and sister-in-law Deloris Hoskins Apel. 

He is survived by his children John and Regina Apel (Soldier, KS), Dean and Ann-Christin Apel (Lindsborg, KS), Ellen Apel (Minneapolis, MN), and his six grandchildren Yeremiah Apel (Vännäs, Sweden), Yohannes and wife Cecilia Apel (Lund, Sweden), Maria Apel (Lund, Sweden), Lukas Apel (Hays, KS), Frederik Apel (Soldier, KS), and Phillip Apel (Soldier, KS).

     A memorial service and time of fellowship will be held in the chapel at Meadowlark Hills in Manhattan, KS, at 2 p.m., Sunday, December 18. A short graveside ceremony will be held the preceding day at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 17 at the Grace Lawn Cemetery in Howard, KS. 

     Instead of flowers, the family encourages memorial contributions be directed to the Kansas 4-H Foundation, Dale Apel Leader-in-Training Campership Fund, 1680 Charles Pl., Ste. 100, Manhattan, KS 66502. Dale began his more than 45-year career with the 4-H Foundation and the Kansas State University Cooperative Extension Service, 4-H and Youth Development Department, during his Kansas State College summers when he served as an Emergency Assistant 4-H Agent. Through the years Curtis worked for Midwest Industries in McPherson as a production worker. The young couple established their first home together in McPherson. This union was blessed with the birth of three sons, Timothy, Heath and Brian. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Dena Rhea, of McPherson, Kansas; his children Heath Rhea, of McPherson, Kansas and Brian Rhea and his wife Lillian, of McPherson, Kansas. Charles Earl Willis, Jr. passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at the age of 97. He was born May 15, 1925, in Syracuse, Kansas to Charles Earl and Dora Elizabeth (Quillen) Willis. 

When Earl was four years old, the family moved to Garden City. He attended school there and graduated from Garden City High School in 1943. &nbsp;

While in school, Earl worked with his father and uncle at Burtis Motor Company where he learned his trade as an auto mechanic.

After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army and at the age of eighteen, he became the head of his company’s motor pool. Earl served in Italy and was honorably discharged in 1946. &nbsp;

After returning home, Earl met Dorothy “Jane” Plummer on the dance floor of a wedding reception. They married on February 8, 1947, and were happily married for 70 years. Their home was in Syracuse, Kansas where Earl owned and operated Willis Auto. 

He was active in the community, first as a volunteer fireman and then serving twelve years as a Hamilton County Commissioner. He was a member of the Syracuse Masonic Lodge #309, Scottish Rite, and Shriners International.

Earl is survived by three children, Chuck and his wife, Sharon, of Wadsworth, IL, Beth Butler and her husband, Mike, of Salina, KS, and Janey Redetzke and her husband, Joe, of Buena Vista, CO; five grandchildren, Jennifer Carter, AJ Redetzke, Michele Johnson, Michael Butler, and Patrick Redetzke. He was also blessed with thirteen great-grandchildren.

A private family graveside service will be held, Tuesday, November 29, at the Syracuse Cemetery where Earl will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Jane.

 While he was in college Paul joined the Army National Guard, which he served in for six years. During his service he attended Officers Training School where he was promoted to the rank of 1st Lieutenant.

Paul met his future wife Carole (Katz) while attending Fort Hays. They later married November 26, 1966, in Kinsley, KS. To this union, four children were born: Jude, Megan, Katrina, and Mitch. Paul and Carole raised their children on the family farm near Jewell, KS. Paul spent his entire life in the Jewell and Jamestown area farming until five years ago when retiring to Beloit.

Paul was dedicated to farming and it was especially important to him to be a good steward of the land. After he retired, his love for the land and countryside continued to be where he was the happiest as he spent his days driving the backroads. Throughout his life he enjoyed coffee in the morning with his friends in Jewell, and later on with his friends in Beloit. 

Paul especially enjoyed watching his children’s many activities as they grew up, and then in his later years watching his grandchildren’s as well. Even when he was not feeling well, a visit from his grandchildren could always bring a smile to his face.

Survivors include his wife Carole, of the home; children Jude (Heather) Matter of Beloit, Megan (Scott) Young of Mankato, Katrina (Kevin) Jones of Beloit, Mitch (Lyssa) Matter of Beloit; and grandchildren Katia; Logan, Devon, Mason; Tyler, Cole, Lane, Anna Marie; Grace, Ember, Josie. He is also survived by nephews Dallas (Belinda) Katz, Chris Tegley, and niece Elizabeth (Johnny) Curtis. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law, Coral Ann and Richard Tegley of California, and nephew John David Tegley.

Paul was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Beloit for 55 years. He was also a member of the Jewell County American Legion.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 19 at the Zion Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. with family present from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the Roberts Family Funeral Home.

We are having a memorial service on Wednesday, November 23rd to celebrate her wonderful life at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home. Visitation is at 10:00 a.m., followed by the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Our sweet Mother was born on August 15th, 1927 in the tiny town of Enon, Arkansas in the hills of the Ozarks. Her parents were William Lloyd and Gladys Blevins, hard-working farmers and tobacco growers. She grew up there with her dear sister and best friend, Marie.

In an area and era where few women (or men) graduated high school and went on to college, our mom did both. She attended Southwest Missouri State Teacher’s College and taught school for two years before marrying the love of her life, OB Bradley. Blessed with good health and a loving partner they were married on February 7th, 1947 and celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary this year.

Marrying a military man had many challenges. Our mother moved our huge brood all across the country and overseas, caring for us, keeping us safe and raising us to be the best people we could be. Each time we moved Mom either taught or did accounting or bookkeeping. Raising five children while working full time was something most could not do well, our mother excelled at it all. Life was not always easy and there were many challenges over the years; moving every three or four years was difficult but the hardest was losing an infant at three days old. Our sister Debra was never forgotten and Mom will be laid to rest next to her in the cemetery in Blue Eye, Missouri.

After retiring from 26 years in the Air Force, Wilma and OB settled down in Abilene, KS and owned RHV Hardware for 10 years where Mom did all the bookkeeping with her dear friend Ava Ferguson. 

Mom was a talented athlete and especially enjoyed bowling and golf. Blessed with a green thumb her lovely roses and other flowers made their yard a joy to view every spring, summer and fall. 

A longtime member of Emmanuel Church she made many friends and devoutly worshipped and enjoyed the fellowship and love she found among the congregation.

Mom spent her retirement years showering her love among her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and basking in the love she received in return. No one took more joy in a baby’s smile or a child’s laughter. If you judged your life by the love you gave and received, her life could not be more successful. She will be missed, she will be remembered, she will live in our hearts forever. Wilma is survived by her husband OB Bradley; children Pam Foltz, Sherry Yeakel (Steve), Sandy Ines (Ben), Robert Bradley (Christine) and Richard Bradley (Donna); grandchildren Kim Krizek (Brian), Chris Brooks (Jenny), Jon Benton, Sarajane Foltz (Melissa), Dustin Benton (Kate), Lindsay Capps (Jonathan), Kati Benton (Jordan), Casey Hay (Adam), Erin Wolf (Donald) and Jacob Bradley; her 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; one niece Linda Kay Redford (John).

Norma Baker, 92, formerly of Abilene passed away November 17, 2022 after a short illness. Norma’s current place of residence was Bethany Village (Home) in Lindsborg, KS.

Norma was born March 10, 1930 in Liberal, KS, the daughter of Samuel C. Hinkel and Mary M. (Lohrey) Hinkel. She was the youngest of four children.

Norma was united in marriage to Ernest Roy Baker on September 4, 1949. They were blessed with two children, Debra and Christopher.

Survivors include her daughter Debra Reiman, grandchildren Holly Cutting (Doug), Nicki Reiman, Stacy Hubbard (Chris), 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Paul Hinkel and Lester Hinkel, her sister Thellma Burrell, husband Ernest, her son Chris, her grandson Brandon Baker, and her great-grandson Hayden Reiman.

 Jennie raised five children and worked as a cook for the Ell-Saline School District for many years.

Jennie is survived by her children, Kathy Reynolds, Sandra Overton (Joe), Richard Shaver (Margaret), Dennis Shaver (Connie) and George Shaver (Christine).

Christina A. Creighton Turner, 84, passed away November 19, 2022. She was born December 8, 1937 in Centerville, Kansas to Eva Shafer and Roy Bowman. 

On December 18, 1955 she married John Creighton they had four children together before his death. On June 24, 1969 she was married to Robert Turner who had three children; together they had one child.

She attended secretarial school in Kansas City. She also attended Fort Scott Community College in Fort Scott, Kansas.&nbsp; She was a pastor's wife in numerous churches for 30 years.&nbsp; She spent most of her life as a homemaker but did have several jobs outside the home as well.

She enjoyed needle crafts, sewing, painting and wrote poetry.&nbsp; She was a strong woman of faith and could often be found reading her Bible.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands John Creighton and Robert Turner, son Randy Turner, grandsons Michael and JJ Carlson, and two brothers.

Christina is survived by sons John (Robin) Creighton and Rick Turner, daughters Janet (Gary) Carlson, Joyce (Keith) Pohl, Joan (Larry) Newingham, Rebecca Jill Turner, Roberta Turner, 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren with one on the way, brothers Everett and Keith Bowman, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be at Ryan Mortuary, Monday November 21, from 6-8 p.m.&nbsp; Funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church in Salina, KS on Tuesday November 22 at 10:00 a.m.&nbsp; Burial will follow at Gypsum Hill Cemetery.

On June 24, 1969 she was married to Robert Turner who had three children; together they had one child.She attended secretarial school in Kansas City. Hilga Hamburg Trow, 95, Bennington, passed away Thursday, November 17, 2022, at the Ottawa County Health Center, Minneapolis.&nbsp; Hilga was born January 31, 1927, on the SS Hamburg sailing on the Atlantic Ocean with her parents and brother while traveling to America.&nbsp; Hilga was the daughter of Robert and Emma (Kiefer) Rastetter.

Hilga was raised and educated in rural Bennington.&nbsp; She graduated from Bennington High School in 1945.&nbsp; Hilga went on to further her education at Ottawa, KS to obtain her teaching certificate.&nbsp; After two years of college, she started teaching in Verdi, which was a one room schoolhouse.&nbsp; She later started teaching at the Bennington Grade School and retired in 1995 after 48 years of teaching.

Hilga married Leo Trow on August 5, 1950, in Bennington.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leo on November 29, 1997; dear brother Edwin; and dear sister Erma.

Hilga is survived by her son John Robert Trow of Bennington; nieces Marilyn McKee of Oquawka, IL and Kathy Hay of Olathe; and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, November 21, at Wilson Family Funeral Home, 405 Argyle Ave., Minneapolis, KS 67467.&nbsp; Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 22 at the United Church of Bennington.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Bennington Cemetery.&nbsp;

William “Butch” Robert Cochran passed away November 16, 2022, at Hays Medical Center. He was born March 24, 1961, in Albuquerque, NM to 
Billie D. and Frances E. (Jones) Cochran.

As a kid, he moved around
 a lot due to his father being in the Navy.  His family settled in 
Norton, and he was a Norton Community High School graduate. Butch worked
 for B4-A-Rent in Goodland, KS and then as mechanic for Engle’s in 
Norton. He was a huge Dungeon and Dragons fan and spent a lot of time 
painting miniature figurines. He was also an avid Kansas City Chiefs 
fan. Most of all, he loved traveling to visit his kids and grandkids 
when he was able.

Butch was preceded in death by his mother, 
Frances; sister, Connie Dale; and his friend who was like a brother to 
him, Richard Lindsay. He is survived by his father, Billie of Norton, 
KS; children: Chyanne (Brian) McDonald of Rozel, KS, Jacob (Kali) 
Cochran of Larned, KS, Kacie Palmer of Salina, KS, and Randy (fiancé 
Danielle) Cochran of Norton, KS; eight grandchildren; and many other 
family members and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 am
 Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at the First Church of God in Norton. Burial
 will follow at the Norton Cemetery. 

Memorial contributions may be made
