Monty Wayne Rhine, 56 , of Wamego, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday (August 10, 2022) at his home in Wamego.

Born November 12, 1965 in St. Joseph, Missouri, &nbsp;Monty was the son of John and Dorothy LeRew Rhine.&nbsp; 

He married Angie Meritt on May 20, 1989 in Cuba, Kansas.&nbsp; She survives.

Monty was a graduate of Hillcrest High School in Cuba and a 1989 graduate of Kansas State University with a bachelor's degree in ag economics.&nbsp; He was currently the co-owner of J. M. Staffing Agency in Topeka.&nbsp; Monty graduated from the Colorado School of Banking and previously worked in banking in Arizona, Wyoming and Kansas.&nbsp; He was also a founder and co-owner of Czechland Outfitters in Cuba with his brother Heath and friends Cass Reynolds and Jay T. Reynolds.

Monty was a member of Wamego Country Club where he was an avid golfer.&nbsp; He enjoyed hunting, diving and his passion for Corvettes but his greatest joy was the time he spent with his family and his dogs Bentley and Louie.

Survivors include his wife Angie; two children, Sarah Talkington (Tim) of Belleville, KS and Chandler Rhine (Maria) of Topeka, KS; six grandchildren, Kaleb Talkington, Lexus Talkington, Brooklyn Talkington, Ernesto Rhine, Brian Rhine and Elianna Rhine; his mother Dorothy Rhine of Cuba, KS; a brother, Heath Rhine (Lori) of Belleville, KS; an aunt, Sheril Zenger (Richard) of Belleville, KS; his mother-in-law Carol Pfeifer of Spencer, NE; sister-in-law Becky Meritt of Spencer, NE; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Monty was preceded in death by his father; his father-in-law Dale Meritt and his stepfather-in-law, George Pfeifer.

Funeral services will be held Saturday evening at 6:00 in the Campanella &amp; Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego with Pastor Jol Klein officiating.

Visitation will be Saturday evening from 5:30 until the time of services at the funeral home in Wamego.

Graveside services will be Monday morning at 11:00 in the Hawks Cemetery in Cuba, Kansas with Pastor Randy Paugh officiating.

Our dad, known as “Dean” or “Grandpa Dean, passed peacefully in his sleep at the Country Place Senior Living facility on August 7, 2022. &nbsp;&nbsp;Dean was born to Bert Allen and Edna (Wilson) Allen on December 19, 1926 on the farm near Haddam, Ks.&nbsp;

Dean lived his whole life in or around Haddam.&nbsp; He attended and graduated from Haddam High School in 1944.&nbsp;

He was in the Merchant Marines during WWII and traveled the world.&nbsp;

After his time in the Merchant Marines, Dean taught school at the Rock School in Coleman Township, Washington County, Kansas.&nbsp; He then went on to teach at the Clara School.&nbsp; One of Dean's sons even married a daughter of one of his students from Clara School.&nbsp;

Dean was drafted into the army during the Korean War and once again traveled the world. While overseas, Dean ran into two familiar faces from home, Don Skipton and Wayne Corbett.&nbsp; They all lived within ¼ mile of one another.&nbsp; Talk about a small world!

On January 11, 1953, Dean married Evelyn Gale Kennedy.&nbsp; They were married at the United Methodist Church in Munden, Kansas and made their home south of Haddam where Dean had grown up and lived the majority of his life.&nbsp; Together, Dean and Evelyn had four children, Doug, Robert, (better known as Bob), Tammy, (the pretty one!) and Jack. You would think that this one gave Dean his gray hair, but, no….Dean had gray hair long before.&nbsp;

Dean farmed the ground his family had farmed and this grew into a love for gardening in later years.&nbsp; After some time, Dean and Evelyn moved closer into Haddam, where he farmed and owned and operated the local locker plant.&nbsp; He ran this until it burned.&nbsp; That was when he became the proprietor of the Uptown Mart for several years.

In or around 1965, Dean started to carry mail on the rural route.&nbsp; You could always see him driving the route, and as they say…..neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet, nor hail shall keep the postmen from their appointed rounds.&nbsp; He also had a penchant for a good cigar during these years, and you could see him chewing on a cigar stub. He ran his routes for 30 plus years until he retired.&nbsp;

Dean and Evelyn enjoyed going dancing, playing cards with friends, and spending time with family.&nbsp; His passion for working the ground found him in the garden.&nbsp; He would plant such a big garden, he could have opened a summer farmers market himself.&nbsp; Dean liked going to auctions and always came home with his “great finds.”&nbsp; His grandkids and great-grandkids love seeing all the treasures that Grandpa Dean has. Dean enjoyed building and refinishing things.&nbsp; His workshop was something to behold.&nbsp; He had every and any tool needed for whatever the situation. It was like organized chaos, but he knew where everything was and everything had its place.&nbsp; 

Another passion would have to be fishing.&nbsp; He spent many summers at the ponds and traveling with his kids to fish in the streams of Colorado. He also loved to spend Father’s Day weekends camping with his kids and grandkids at Lovewell Lake. &nbsp;He spent many nights on the front row of the bleachers watching his sons, daughter, and grandsons play football and basketball.&nbsp; That was a lot of bleacher time, but he enjoyed every minute he was able to share his time with them.

Preceding Dean in death were his wife Evelyn, his daughter Tammy (Allen) Zenger, his brother and sister, Donald (Bud) Allen and wife Eunice, and Mildred Schuessler and husband Tom, his sisters-in-law Garnett (Kennedy) Rhine and husband, Kenneth Rhine, Kay (Kennedy) Burleson and husband Hugh Burleson, Anna Mae (Kennedy) Cox and husband Arlie Cox, and Becky (Kennedy) Blecha and husband Robert (Bob) Blecha.

Memories of Dean will be cherished by his family:&nbsp; sons Doug and wife Jana (Jones) Allen of Marysville, Bob and his wife Lynn (Stanton) Allen of Haddam, and Jack and his wife Judy (Wurtz) Allen of Haddam; son-in-law Neil Zenger, Haddam; his grandchildren Heath and wife Stacey Allen, Haddam; Brooke (Allen) Yarrow, &nbsp;Belleville; Dusty and wife Lexia Zenger, Lincoln, NE; Tyler Zenger, &nbsp;Manhattan; Christopher and wife Emily Allen, Marysville; Mitchell Allen, Kansas City; Tanner and wife Abbey Allen, &nbsp;Atchison; Trevor and wife Gabryelle Allen, &nbsp;Brandon, SD; and Tucker Allen, Haddam.&nbsp; Dean also has 10 great-grandchildren, Tristan, Traven and Triniti Allen; Brecklyn Yarrow; Jack, Paisley and Cooper Allen; Kolt (KJ) Zenger; Locke Allen; and Etta Zenger; and his sister-in-law Gertrude (Kennedy) Ryser, along with many other family members and friends.&nbsp;

Graveside funeral services will be Wednesday, August 17th, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at the Haddam City Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday, August 16th, from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m., with the family greeting friends from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home in Belleville.

Darlyne Standley, 100, passed away August 10, 2022 at her farm in Courtland, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She was born on June 16, 1922, in Republic County, the daughter of Darrell George Standley and Eda (Sallman) Standley.&nbsp;

She was a lifelong resident of the rural Courtland area, except for a year during WW II when she moved to Orange, California, and worked in a factory for the war effort. &nbsp;Darlyne remained on the family farm and kept books for the Standley Partnership owned by Darlyne and her two brothers, Ralph and Frank.

She was preceded in death by her parents Darrell and Eda Standley, and her&nbsp;three brothers&nbsp; Raymond, Ralph, and Frank.

Survivors include her aunt Edith Sallman Linden, of Concordia,KS; &nbsp;her sister-in- law Elizabeth Standley of Jamestown, KS; eighteen first cousins, and numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at the Amana Lutheran Church, Scandia, Kansas with PMA Marilyn Dunstan officiating.

Interment will be at the Lutheran Cemetery, Scandia, Kansas.

James E. Haskins, 64 years of age, entered into rest on Monday, August 8, 2022 at the Salina Regional Health Center, Salina, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on May 1, 1958 in Concordia, Kansas to Eugene and Lois June (Young) Haskins.

On November 14, 1987 he married Michelle M. Sanders in Concordia, Kansas.&nbsp;

James was a 1976 graduate of Courtland High School, Courtland, Kansas.&nbsp; He received a degree in automotive repair from NCKAVTS Beloit Campus, Beloit, Kansas.

James grew up on the family farm where he helped with the farming and kept all the equipment running mechanically.&nbsp; Then he worked for Bohnert Gas Station, 81 Market, Krier Mower and Electric, all of Concordia; then moving to Formoso to own and operate The Barn around 1996; then while working for the City of Formoso where he was instrumental in the water line project completion.&nbsp; He worked for the Republic County Rural Water District #1 and later as an auto mechanic from his home.

James had a strong faith in God and family.

James' hobbies included writing and playing music on the piano, tinkering with small engines, his hot rod, taking his grandchildren on four-wheeler rides and hanging out in the shop with friends and family.

He is survived by his wife Michelle “Shelly” Haskins, Formoso, KS; daughter Courtney Bobby, Aberdeen, SD; son Corey Haskins (Kristina), Nickerson, KS; son Kyle Haskins, Formoso, KS; five grandchildren, Jacob Bobby, Emma Bobby, Jensen Haskins, Carter Haskins and Kashlynn Haskins; brother Robert Haskins (Rhonda), Broomfield, CO; sister Connie Butts (Steve), Jewell, KS; sister Charlotte Seybold (Calvin), Republic, KS; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Survivors include his loving wife, Anne of the home; mother Pat Clark of Oklahoma City, OK; a brother, Kendal (Debra) Clark of Oklahoma City, OK; nephew John (Ashley) Clark; niece Keesie (Angie) Clark; and many extended nieces, nephews, family and friends.

She attended Marquette United Methodist Church and enjoyed sewing, quilting, carving, gardening, and reading.

Survivors include a son, Lewis Christopher Graham (Barbara) of Abilene, KS; brothers James Potts of Bridgeport, IL and Chester Potts (Lynette) of Norfolk, VA; seven grandchildren, Curtis Graham (Kathy), Natalie Davey (Lynn), Brenda Hoffman (Tom), Allen Geren (Susan), Kevin Geren (Janet), Todd Graham (Brenda), and Andrea Willems (Greg Hopp); numerous great-grandchildren, extended family and friends.

Calvin “Cal” Gerald Yowell, 81, of Windom, KS and formerly of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Friday, August 5, 2022, surrounded by family at the University of Kansas Health Systems in Kansas City, KS. 

He retired from Ford Motor Company in Texas.&nbsp; He then worked for McPherson County and the City of McPherson, retiring in 2004.&nbsp;

Cal was born on September 7, 1940, in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Calvin Glover and Mildred Marie (Ellrick) Yowell.&nbsp; He graduated from high school in Aurora, CO.&nbsp; 

He was united in marriage to Dianne Kay (Ibsen) Pride on August 30, 1991.

He served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1963 and the Army Reserve from 1963 to 1966. He was a member of the Marquette American Legion.&nbsp;

Cal loved living on the farm homestead where he and Dianne built a home.&nbsp; He and Dianne enjoyed working outside together, especially when it came to caring for the lawn and cutting wood for their fireplace.&nbsp; Dianne would mow the grass while Cal ran the weed trimmer. Cal was in charge of cutting the wood while Dianne would load and pile it.&nbsp; In his younger years, Cal enjoyed hunting.&nbsp; His favorite holiday was Christmas time, and his favorite place to eat was the Mexican restaurant, LaFiesta, where he’d order the same thing every time.&nbsp; 

Cal and Dianne had the opportunity to host a foreign exchange student, Olga, for a year.&nbsp; Many special memories were made including Cal teaching her how to drive a vehicle.&nbsp; Approximately a year after Olga went back home to Germany, Cal and Dianne enjoyed time visiting her and her parents.&nbsp; 

Cal had a love for dogs, and his most recent dog, a Cocker Spaniel named Sophie, was a loyal buddy to him.&nbsp; Cal enjoyed time spent with friends.&nbsp; He was a very likeable guy…..he liked everyone and everyone liked him back.&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife Dianne of the home; a son, David (Sheryl) Yowell; a nephew, Warren (Vickie) Brown; Dianne’s sons Richard Pride, Mark Pride, and Shawn Pride; Dianne’s granddaughter Grace Pride; and sister-in-law Connie Birkes; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Arlene.

She attended Mt. Vernon grade school and later graduated from Clay Center High School with the class of 1942.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She married Donald L. Hamilton in June 1946 and they had three sons, Gregory Stephen, Dennis Eugene and Kelly Scott.&nbsp; 

She was preceded in death by her parents Wright and Martha, husband Donald and son Gregory.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She is survived by her two sons Dennis of Clay Center and Kelly and wife Mary of San Diego, CA; four grandchildren, Lindsay Clark, Erin Hamilton, Katie Hamilton and Andy Hamilton; two great grandchildren Laramie and Landrie.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Lois Jean worked for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as an operator and later for over 20 years as secretary of McKinley School.&nbsp; &nbsp;She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.&nbsp; She also enjoyed playing bridge with her bridge clubs in Clay Center.&nbsp; She was a member of the Clay Center Covenant Church.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Vernon grade school and later graduated from Clay Center High School with the class of 1942.&nbsp;&nbsp;She married Donald L. Hamilton in June 1946 and they had three sons, Gregory Stephen, Dennis Eugene and Kelly Scott.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents Wright and Martha, husband Donald and son Gregory.&nbsp;&nbsp;She is survived by her two sons Dennis of Clay Center and Kelly and wife Mary of San Diego, CA; four grandchildren, Lindsay Clark, Erin Hamilton, Katie Hamilton and Andy Hamilton; two great grandchildren Laramie and Landrie.&nbsp;&nbsp;Lois Jean worked for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as an operator and later for over 20 years as secretary of McKinley School.&nbsp; &nbsp;She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.&nbsp; She also enjoyed playing bridge with her bridge clubs in Clay Center.&nbsp; She was a member of the Clay Center Covenant Church.&nbsp;&nbsp;Respect calls will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Friday, September 9, 2022.Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 9, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center.&nbsp;Memorial contributions may be made to the Utility Park Zoo or Meals on Wheels and can be sent c/o the funeral home.

Francie grew up in Hydro, Oklahoma before her family moved to Clay Center during her junior year of high school.&nbsp; She graduated from CCCHS in 1973 and attended Cloud County Community College.&nbsp; 

Francie married Roger Young on May 15, 1987.&nbsp; The couple owned and operated The Southside from 1990 until 2005.&nbsp; Francie was also a private caregiver for many elderly residents in Clay Center.&nbsp; 

She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Vernon Stutz, II.

Sherry lived in the Longford, KS area and attended Walker School until the 4th&nbsp;grade. &nbsp;Her family moved east of Wakefield where she attended Bala School until the 8th&nbsp;grade, and then went on to graduate from Wakefield High School. 

She worked part time as an office assistant for Kirby Insurance and full time at Upland Insurance. 

Sherry enjoyed going to her grandchildren’s ballgames, gardening, fishing, and sewing. She was a former member of the Wakefield United Methodist Church. 

Sherry is preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Cindy Lou; son-in-law Carl Rosenberry; nephew Jeff Oard; and sister-in-law Linda Oard.

Sherry M. Bergmeier

Eddey Earl Putman was born on November 22, 1938 in Lubbock, Texas, the son of Jessie and Margie Putman. He died Friday, August 5, 2022 at the Mt. Joseph Senior Village in Concordia, Kansas at the age of 83.

Eddey was a die-hard race car driver. He lived in Texas and California, where he owned and operated a mechanic shop, before settling on his farmstead near Esbon, Kansas, and living his final years at the Mt. Joseph Senior Village.

During his racing travels, he met a lot of people, and made so many life-long friends along the way. When he wasn’t racing, he loved attending car shows, and his ’34 Coupe was featured in&nbsp;Hot Rod Magazine&nbsp;in 1995. He was also the oldest modified racer in the history of the Belleville High Banks track.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Jimmy.

Eddey is survived by his sons Ricky and wife Tiffany of Beloit and Danny of Lebanon; one grandson, Kendal and his wife Rebecca of Katy, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Charley and Olivia; his nephew, Timmy of Salina; and a host of friends.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 11 at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Putman Family.

Russ was employed by Titus Transportation in Hutchison at the time of his death.

 He loved to go to dirt track and drag races and going to concerts whenever he could. He was skilled at installing car audio systems and writing poetry. Russ enjoyed spending time at the lake, going camping and listening to music. He also enjoyed being in the company of friends or family. &nbsp;

He is survived by his parents Rusty L. and Linay Jones of Herington; children Autum Torres of Herington, Kaitlin Volkman of Park City, KS, Adrina Volkman of Hope; Zach Bickford of Mcpherson, sister Tiffany (Josh Kasten) Jones of Herington; niece and nephew Kiersten Kamholz and Kyler Marshall. 

Russ passed away on August 4, 2022, in Hutchison as a result of an accident.&nbsp; 

He is preceded in death by both sets of grandparents and a sister Stephanie L. Jones. 

His family will gather with friends on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at 1 p.m. at Yazel Megli Funeral Homes, Herington. He will be laid to rest in Sunset Hill Cemetery at a later date.

Dylan Lynn Sulanka, age 18, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 in Concordia, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on December 26, 2003 in Salina, KS to Randy and Amy (Bray) Sulanka.

Dylan was a 2022 graduate of Concordia High School. &nbsp;Dylan participated in the Concordia Panther football program and enjoyed the camaraderie and competing.

Dylan was a member of the St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Aurora.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and loved working on his trucks.&nbsp; Most of all he loved spending time with his family and hanging out with his friends.

Dylan is survived by his parents Randy and Amy Sulanka, Aurora, KS; a brother, Dane Sulanka, Aurora, KS; maternal grandmother Bonnie Bray, Concordia, KS; uncles and aunts Jeffrey (Kelly) Bray, Hutchinson, KS; John (Michelle) Bray, Concordia, KS; Larry Sulanka, Aurora, KS; Glenn (Jill) Sulanka, Aurora, KS; Jerry (Tammi) Sulanka, Oak Hill, KS.; Robert (Tonya) Sulanka, Aurora, KS; Jimmy (Kayla) Sulanka, Aurora, KS; a host of cousins, other family members, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Richard and Margaret Sulanka, and maternal grandfather Kenneth “Kenny” Bray.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Aurora, with Fr. David Metz officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery, Aurora.&nbsp;

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 15, 2022 with a rosary service at 6:00 p.m., Monday, led by Corey Lyon, all at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

She passed away Saturday, August 6, 2022 at the Holiday Resort Health and Rehab in Salina. On October 6, 1962 she was united in marriage to Eldon Graves in Junction City. He passed away on March 12, 1978. Naomi was a floor supervisor for Alco for many years and was a member of the St. Michael Catholic Church and the St. Michael Catholic Church Auxiliary. She was a member of the VFW and the American Legion and volunteered in several organizations including several schools as a Foster Grandparent wherever they lived across the country. She is survived by her loving sons Stewart Graves and Kenneth Graves of Salina, brothers Tom Cornwell of Valley Center, Kansas, Harry Cornwell of Mayetta, Kansas, Richard Cornwell of Blue Springs, Missouri, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
