Obituary | Karen D. Seyfert of Ada, Kansas | Wilson Family Funeral Home

April 18, 1947 - December 22, 2022

Karen Diane Seyfert, 75, of Ada, Kansas, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2022, at the Hays Regional Medical Center.

Karen was born Karen Ziegler on April 18, 1947, on the family farm in Fountain Township, Ottawa County to Frank and Carol Ziegler.

On August 28, 1971, she was married to Ron Seyfert at the Antioch Baptist Church in Ada.

Karen was a lifelong resident of Ottawa County.  After graduating from Minneapolis High School where she was the valedictorian of the class of 1965, she attended and graduated from Brown Mackie Business College in Salina. She worked for the Kansas State University Extension Service in Manhattan; the state office of the USDA Soil Conservation Service in Salina; and Four Rivers Resource Conservation District in Minneapolis.

After marrying Ron, they purchased her grandparents’ farm northwest of Ada where they raised their boys and lived until her passing.

Karen was a life-long member of the Antioch Baptist Church in Ada and the Bohemian Lodge #203.

Her life focused on raising her sons and supporting their activities during their youth and Ron’s activities as the county extension agent.  She was a survivor of 40 county fairs/harvest/plowing combinations.  She was Ron’s primary farm hand when the boys were gone, keeping watch over the cow/calf operation in winter and was known to run a squeeze chute head gate for fun.  Farm management through harvest, planting, and all points in between also was part of her duties.  For over 10 years, she and the family delivered the North Central Kansas areawide phone directories each fall to the residents and businesses of Minneapolis.  She was also famous among the family for her secret “TV mix” recipe. Most importantly, she made sure everyone had plenty of Kansas State purple in their wardrobe.

After Karen and Ron raised two boys, she was blessed with two daughters-in-law and four granddaughters and finally got to experience life with little ladies.

She was preceded in death by her parents, mother-in-law Evelyn Behr and father-in-law Francis Behr.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Ron Seyfert; son Mike and wife Christy and their daughters Sydney and Madison of Alexandria, VA; and son Mark and wife Teresa and their daughters Lila and Cora of Lewisville, TX. She is also survived by her brother Larry Ziegler and wife Sandy of Charles Town, WV; sister Carolyn Kay and husband Jim of Minneapolis; and brother Steven Ziegler of New York City, NY; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 28 at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 29, at the Antioch Baptist Church, Ada.  Family graveside services will be in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Antioch Baptist Church in Ada or the Ottawa County 4-H Foundation and left in care of Wilson Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 166, Minneapolis, KS 67467.
