A child calls police after a man allegedly sexually assaulted one of two children and voiced sexual comments towards them in a Salina home.

According to the Salina Police Department (SPD) this morning at around 3:50 am, officers responded to a 9-1-1 call from a residence in Central Salina. Police state that the call was made from a child under the age of 15, who reported a male adult was trying to get into their room to "touch them&nbsp;inappropriately," along with their sibling who is also under the age of 15.

Before the call was made, a man identified as 32-year old Andrew Webb, allegedly had&nbsp;inappropriately propositioned them. Police state that Webb "fondled" one of the children and both children locked themselves inside a bedroom away from Webb, as he tried to gain entry afterwards.&nbsp;

Police state that Webb also began making "sexual comments" to both children.

When officers arrived to the scene, they came in contact with the child who called and Webb. Officers then arrested Webb without incident.

Webb was booked into the Saline County Jail on the following charges:

Aggravated Indecent Liberties with a Child and two counts of Aggravated Indecent Solicitation of a Child.

Police did not report whether if Webb is acquainted to the children and whose residence it is.

According to SPD, they are currently investigating this event.

Salina Police arrest a man after he allegedly 'fondled' a child at a residence

SEDGWICK COUNTY—A man charged in a fatal hit-and-run that killed a bicyclist was back in court Wednesday for an arraignment hearing.

Christopher Johnson, 23, plead not guilty to a charge of felony hit-and-run before&nbsp;Judge Eric Williams, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.&nbsp; He will face a jury trial in October.

In August of 2024, police responded to a traffic collision involving a vehicle and an electric bicycle at 2400 N. Hoover in Wichita, according to Officer Juan Rebolledo.

First responders found 43-year-old Thomas Doyle of Wichita who was riding the bike unresponsive. Thomas was later pronounced deceased at the scene by Sedgwick County EMS.

Investigators determined Doyle was northbound on Hoover when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Johnsaon that then continued driving north.

On August 22, police arrested Johnson on felony allegations, according to&nbsp;<a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/InmateSearch/Details.aspx?Id=751504">Sedgwick County booking records.</a>&nbsp; He bonded out of jail the following day.

Driver enters plea in fatal Kansas hit-and-run that killed bicyclist

Salina Police arrested a male suspect after he allegedly attacked a female victim in a Salina home.

According to the Salina Police Department (SPD) on Wednesday, June 11th at around 4:00 pm, a physical domestic disturbance occurred on the 3200 block of Whitetail Way. 

Allegedly, a 54-year old female victim reported a 31-year old male suspect identified as Brandon Gamache (who lives at the home), wanted to use her vehicle.

The victim told Gamache she did not want him to use her vehicle, and he suddenly became angry. He then attacked her in an attempt to take the keys of the vehicle and also pinned her down to a chair. When she was pinned, Gamache reportedly tore her pants pocket in an attempt to get the keys.

Furthermore, Gamache forcibly grabbed the victim's glasses off of her face and damaged them. Police stated that the victim said she was going to call for help via phone, but Gamache took her phone and threw it away from her.

However, the victim was able to get up from the chair she was pinned to, but was then pushed back down by Gamache. She got up again from the chair and was able to retrieve her phone as she exited the residence.

When the victim called police, officers responded to the scene and made contact with Gamache who was at the home. When officers attempted to arrest him, he began resisting and tried to punch them. Police were able to apprehend Gamache and booked him into the Saline County Jail on the following charges:

Aggravated Robbery, Attempted Aggravated Robbery, Domestic Battery, Theft, Criminal Damage to Property, Battery on a LEO (Law Enforcement Officer), Assault of a LEO and Interference with a LEO. 

Gamache also had a Salina Municipal Warrant.

According to SPD, the victim suffered bruising on her arms and EMS responded to assess her.

Wilson's family posted news of his death to his website and social media accounts Wednesday. Further details weren't immediately available. Since May 2024,&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/brian-wilson-conservatorship-beach-boys-283adf3e04aef5744ac818c36131cf9e">Wilson had been under a court conservatorship</a>&nbsp;to oversee his personal and medical affairs, with Wilson’s longtime representatives, publicist Jean Sievers and manager LeeAnn Hard, in charge.

The eldest and last surviving of three musical brothers — Brian played bass, Carl lead guitar and Dennis drums —&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/beach-boys-disney-documentary-wilson-love-ceb664cc94dc979f7a5f856f749a7e23">he and his fellow Beach Boys</a>&nbsp;rose in the 1960s from local California band to national hitmakers to international ambassadors of surf and sun. Wilson himself was celebrated for his gifts and pitied for his demons. He was one of rock’s great Romantics, a tormented man who in his peak years embarked on an ever-steeper path to aural perfection, the one true sound.

The Beach Boys rank among the most popular groups of the rock era, with more than 30 singles in the Top 40 and worldwide sales of more than 100 million. The 1966 album “Pet Sounds” was voted No. 2 in a 2003 Rolling Stone list of the best 500 albums, losing out, as Wilson had done before, to the Beatles’ “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.” The Beach Boys, who also featured Wilson cousin Mike Love and childhood friend Al Jardine, were voted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.

Wilson feuded with Love over songwriting credits, but peers otherwise adored him beyond envy, from Elton John and Bruce Springsteen to Smokey Robinson and Carole King. The Who’s drummer, Keith Moon, fantasized about joining the Beach Boys. Paul McCartney cited “Pet Sounds” as a direct inspiration on the Beatles and the ballad “God Only Knows” as among his favorite songs, often bringing him to tears.

Wilson moved and fascinated fans and musicians long after he stopped having hits. In his later years, Wilson and a devoted entourage of younger musicians performed “Pet Sounds” and his restored opus, “Smile,” before worshipful crowds in concert halls. Meanwhile, The Go-Go’s, Lindsey Buckingham, Animal Collective and Janelle Monáe were among a wide range of artists who emulated him, whether as a master of crafting pop music or as a pioneer of pulling it apart.

The Beach Boys’ music was like an ongoing party, with Wilson as host and wallflower. He was a tall, shy man, partially deaf (allegedly because of beatings by his father, Murry Wilson), with a sweet, crooked grin, and he rarely touched a surfboard unless a photographer was around. But out of the lifestyle that he observed and such musical influences as Chuck Berry and the Four Freshmen, he conjured a golden soundscape — sweet melodies, shining harmonies, vignettes of beaches, cars and girls — that resonated across time and climates.

Decades after its first release, a Beach Boys song can still conjure instant summer — the wake-up guitar riff that opens “Surfin’ USA”; the melting vocals of “Don’t Worry Baby”; the chants of “fun, fun, fun” or “good, good, GOOD, good vibrations”; the behind-the-wheel chorus “’Round, ’round, get around, I get around.” Beach Boys songs have endured from turntables and transistor radios to boom boxes and iPhones, or any device that could lay on a beach towel or be placed upright in the sand.

The band’s innocent appeal survived the group’s increasingly troubled back story, whether Brian’s many personal trials, the feuds and lawsuits among band members or the alcoholism of Dennis Wilson, who drowned in 1983. Brian Wilson’s ambition raised the Beach Boys beyond the pleasures of their early hits and into a world transcendent, eccentric and destructive. They seemed to live out every fantasy, and many nightmares, of the California myth they helped create.

Brian Wilson was born June 20, 1942, two days after McCartney. His musical gifts were soon obvious, and as a boy he was playing piano and teaching his brothers to sing harmony. The Beach Boys started as a neighborhood act, rehearsing in Brian’s bedroom and in the garage of their house in suburban Hawthorne, California. Surf music, mostly instrumental in its early years, was catching on locally: Dennis Wilson, the group’s only real surfer, suggested they cash in. Brian and Love hastily wrote up their first single, “Surfin,’” a minor hit released in 1961.

They wanted to call themselves the Pendletones, in honor of a popular flannel shirt they wore in early publicity photos. But when they first saw the pressings for “Surfin,’” they discovered the record label had tagged them “The Beach Boys.” Other decisions were handled by their father, a musician of some frustration who hired himself as manager and holy terror. By mid-decade, Murry Wilson had been displaced and Brian, who had been running the band’s recording sessions almost from the start, was in charge, making the Beach Boys the rare group of the time to work without an outside producer.

Their breakthrough came in early 1963 with “Surfin’ USA,” so closely modeled on Berry’s “Sweet Little Sixteen” that Berry successfully sued to get a songwriting credit. It was their first Top 10 hit and a boast to the nation: “If everybody had an ocean / across the USA / then everybody’d be surfin,’ / like Cali-for-nye-ay.” From 1963-66, they were rarely off the charts, hitting No. 1 with “I Get Around” and “Help Me, Rhonda” and narrowly missing with “California Girls” and “Fun, Fun, Fun.” For television appearances, they wore candy-striped shirts and grinned as they mimed their latest hit, with a hot rod or surfboard nearby.

Their music echoed private differences. Wilson often contrasted his own bright falsetto with Love’s nasal, deadpan tenor. The extroverted Love was out front on the fast songs, but when it was time for a slow one, Brian took over. “The Warmth of the Sun” was a song of despair and consolation that Wilson alleged — to some skepticism — he wrote the morning after President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. “Don’t Worry Baby,” a ballad equally intoxicating and heartbreaking, was a leading man’s confession of doubt and dependence, an early sign of Brian’s crippling anxieties.

Stress and exhaustion led to a breakdown in 1964 and his retirement from touring, his place soon filled by Bruce Johnston, who remained with the group for decades. Wilson was an admirer of Phil Spector’s “Wall of Sound” productions and emulated him on Beach Boys tracks, adding sleigh bells to “Dance, Dance, Dance” or arranging a mini-theme park of guitar, horns, percussion and organ as the overture to “California Girls.”

By the mid-1960s, the Beach Boys were being held up as the country’s answer to the Beatles, a friendly game embraced by each group, transporting pop music to the level of “art” and leaving Wilson a broken man.

The Beatles opened with “Rubber Soul,” released in late 1965 and their first studio album made without the distractions of movies or touring. It was immediately praised as a major advance, the lyrics far more personal and the music far more subtle and sophisticated than such earlier hits as “She Loves You” and “A Hard Day’s Night.” Wilson would recall getting high and listening to the record for the first time, promising himself he would not only keep up with the British band, but top them.

Wilson worked for months on what became “Pet Sounds,” and months on the single “Good Vibrations.” He hired an outside lyricist, Tony Asher, and used various studios, with dozens of musicians and instruments ranging from violins to bongos to the harpsichord. The air seemed to cool on some tracks and the mood turn reflective, autumnal. From “I Know There’s an Answer” to “You Still Believe in Me,” many of the songs were ballads, reveries, brushstrokes of melody, culminating in the sonic wonders of “Good Vibrations,” a psychedelic montage that at times sounded as if recorded in outer space.

The results were momentous, yet disappointing. “Good Vibrations” was the group’s first million-seller and “Pet Sounds,” which included the hits “Sloop John B” and “Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” awed McCartney, John Lennon and Eric Clapton among others. Widely regarded as a new kind of rock LP, it was more suited to headphones than to the radio, a “concept” album in which individual songs built to a unified experience, so elaborately crafted in the studio that “Pet Sounds” couldn’t be replicated live with the technology of the time. Wilson was likened not just to the Beatles, but to Mozart and George Gershwin, whose “Rhapsody in Blue” had inspired him since childhood.

But the album didn’t chart as highly as previous Beach Boys releases and was treated indifferently by the U.S. record label, Capitol. The Beatles, meanwhile, were absorbing lessons from the Beach Boys and teaching some in return. “Revolver” and “Sgt. Pepper,” the Beatles’ next two albums, drew upon the Beach Boys’ vocal tapestries and melodic bass lines and even upon the animal sounds from the title track of “Pet Sounds.” The Beatles’ epic “A Day in the Life” reconfirmed the British band as kings of the pop world and “Sgt. Pepper” as the album to beat.

All eyes turned to Wilson and his intended masterpiece — a “teenage symphony to God” he called “Smile.” It was a whimsical cycle of songs on nature and American folklore written with lyricist Van Dyke Parks. The production bordered on method acting; for a song about fire, Wilson wore a fire helmet in the studio. The other Beach Boys were confused, and strained to work with him. A shaken Wilson delayed “Smile,” then canceled it.

Remnants, including the songs “Heroes and Villains” and “Wind Chimes” were re-recorded and issued in September 1967 on “Smiley Smile,” dismissed by Carl Wilson as a “bunt instead of a grand slam.” The stripped down “Wild Honey,” released three months later, became a critical favorite but didn’t restore the band’s reputation. The Beach Boys soon descended into an oldies act, out of touch with the radical ’60s, and Wilson withdrew into seclusion.

Years of struggle, and late life validation

Addicted to drugs and psychologically helpless, sometimes idling in a sandbox he had built in his living room, Wilson didn’t fully produce another Beach Boys record for years. Their biggest hit of the 1970s was a greatest hits album, “Endless Summer,” that also helped reestablish them as popular concert performers.

Although well enough in the 21st century to miraculously finish “Smile” and tour and record again, Wilson had been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder and baffled interviewers with brief and disjointed answers. Among the stranger episodes of Wilson’s life was his relationship with Dr. Eugene Landy, a psychotherapist accused of holding a Svengali-like power over him. A 1991 lawsuit from Wilson’s family blocked Landy from Wilson’s personal and business affairs.

His first marriage, to singer Marilyn Rovell, ended in divorce and he became estranged from daughters Carnie and Wendy, who would help form the pop trio Wilson Phillips. His life stabilized in 1995 with his marriage to Melinda Ledbetter, who gave birth to two more daughters, Daria and Delanie. He also reconciled with Carnie and Wendy and they sang together on the 1997 album “The Wilsons.” (Melinda Ledbetter died in 2024.)

In 1992, Brian Wilson eventually won a $10 million out-of-court settlement for lost songwriting royalties. But that victory and his 1991 autobiography, “Wouldn’t It Be Nice: My Own Story,” set off other lawsuits that tore apart the musical family.

Carl Wilson and other relatives believed the book was essentially Landy’s version of Brian’s life and questioned whether Brian had even read it. Their mother, Audree Wilson, unsuccessfully sued publisher HarperCollins because the book said she passively watched as her husband beat Brian as a child. Love successfully sued Brian Wilson, saying he was unfairly deprived of royalties after contributing lyrics to dozens of songs. He would eventually gain ownership of the band’s name.

The Beach Boys still released an occasional hit single: “Kokomo,” made without Wilson, hit No. 1 in 1988. Wilson, meanwhile, released such solo albums as “Brian Wilson” and “Gettin’ In Over My Head,” with cameos by McCartney and Clapton among others. He also completed a pair of albums for the Walt Disney label — a collection of Gershwin songs and music from Disney movies. In 2012, surviving members of the Beach Boys reunited for a 50th anniversary album, which quickly hit the Top 10 before the group again bickered and separated.

Wilson won two just competitive Grammys, for the solo instrumental “Mrs. O’Leary’s Cow” and for “The Smile Sessions” box set. Otherwise, his honors ranged from a Grammy lifetime achievement prize to a tribute at the Kennedy Center to induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. In 2018, he returned to his old high school in Hawthorne and witnessed the literal rewriting of his past: The principal erased an “F” he had been given in music and awarded him an “A.”

But out of the lifestyle that he observed and such musical influences as Chuck Berry and the Four Freshmen, he conjured a golden soundscape — sweet melodies, shining harmonies, vignettes of beaches, cars and girls — that resonated across time and climates.Decades after its first release, a Beach Boys song can still conjure instant summer — the wake-up guitar riff that opens “Surfin’ USA”; the melting vocals of “Don’t Worry Baby”; the chants of “fun, fun, fun” or “good, good, GOOD, good vibrations”; the behind-the-wheel chorus “’Round, ’round, get around, I get around.” Beach Boys songs have endured from turntables and transistor radios to boom boxes and iPhones, or any device that could lay on a beach towel or be placed upright in the sand.The band’s innocent appeal survived the group’s increasingly troubled back story, whether Brian’s many personal trials, the feuds and lawsuits among band members or the alcoholism of Dennis Wilson, who drowned in 1983. Brian Wilson’s ambition raised the Beach Boys beyond the pleasures of their early hits and into a world transcendent, eccentric and destructive. They seemed to live out every fantasy, and many nightmares, of the California myth they helped create.<h2>From the suburbs to the national stage</h2>Brian Wilson was born June 20, 1942, two days after McCartney. His musical gifts were soon obvious, and as a boy he was playing piano and teaching his brothers to sing harmony. The Beach Boys started as a neighborhood act, rehearsing in Brian’s bedroom and in the garage of their house in suburban Hawthorne, California. Surf music, mostly instrumental in its early years, was catching on locally: Dennis Wilson, the group’s only real surfer, suggested they cash in. Brian and Love hastily wrote up their first single, “Surfin,’” a minor hit released in 1961.They wanted to call themselves the Pendletones, in honor of a popular flannel shirt they wore in early publicity photos. But when they first saw the pressings for “Surfin,’” they discovered the record label had tagged them “The Beach Boys.” Other decisions were handled by their father, a musician of some frustration who hired himself as manager and holy terror. By mid-decade, Murry Wilson had been displaced and Brian, who had been running the band’s recording sessions almost from the start, was in charge, making the Beach Boys the rare group of the time to work without an outside producer.Their breakthrough came in early 1963 with “Surfin’ USA,” so closely modeled on Berry’s “Sweet Little Sixteen” that Berry successfully sued to get a songwriting credit. It was their first Top 10 hit and a boast to the nation: “If everybody had an ocean / across the USA / then everybody’d be surfin,’ / like Cali-for-nye-ay.” From 1963-66, they were rarely off the charts, hitting No. 1 with “I Get Around” and “Help Me, Rhonda” and narrowly missing with “California Girls” and “Fun, Fun, Fun.” For television appearances, they wore candy-striped shirts and grinned as they mimed their latest hit, with a hot rod or surfboard nearby.Their music echoed private differences. Wilson often contrasted his own bright falsetto with Love’s nasal, deadpan tenor. The extroverted Love was out front on the fast songs, but when it was time for a slow one, Brian took over. “The Warmth of the Sun” was a song of despair and consolation that Wilson alleged — to some skepticism — he wrote the morning after President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. “Don’t Worry Baby,” a ballad equally intoxicating and heartbreaking, was a leading man’s confession of doubt and dependence, an early sign of Brian’s crippling anxieties.Stress and exhaustion led to a breakdown in 1964 and his retirement from touring, his place soon filled by Bruce Johnston, who remained with the group for decades. Wilson was an admirer of Phil Spector’s “Wall of Sound” productions and emulated him on Beach Boys tracks, adding sleigh bells to “Dance, Dance, Dance” or arranging a mini-theme park of guitar, horns, percussion and organ as the overture to “California Girls.”By the mid-1960s, the Beach Boys were being held up as the country’s answer to the Beatles, a friendly game embraced by each group, transporting pop music to the level of “art” and leaving Wilson a broken man.<h2>The Beach Boys vs. The Beatles</h2>The Beatles opened with “Rubber Soul,” released in late 1965 and their first studio album made without the distractions of movies or touring. It was immediately praised as a major advance, the lyrics far more personal and the music far more subtle and sophisticated than such earlier hits as “She Loves You” and “A Hard Day’s Night.” Wilson would recall getting high and listening to the record for the first time, promising himself he would not only keep up with the British band, but top them.Wilson worked for months on what became “Pet Sounds,” and months on the single “Good Vibrations.” He hired an outside lyricist, Tony Asher, and used various studios, with dozens of musicians and instruments ranging from violins to bongos to the harpsichord. The air seemed to cool on some tracks and the mood turn reflective, autumnal. From “I Know There’s an Answer” to “You Still Believe in Me,” many of the songs were ballads, reveries, brushstrokes of melody, culminating in the sonic wonders of “Good Vibrations,” a psychedelic montage that at times sounded as if recorded in outer space.The results were momentous, yet disappointing. “Good Vibrations” was the group’s first million-seller and “Pet Sounds,” which included the hits “Sloop John B” and “Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” awed McCartney, John Lennon and Eric Clapton among others. Widely regarded as a new kind of rock LP, it was more suited to headphones than to the radio, a “concept” album in which individual songs built to a unified experience, so elaborately crafted in the studio that “Pet Sounds” couldn’t be replicated live with the technology of the time. Wilson was likened not just to the Beatles, but to Mozart and George Gershwin, whose “Rhapsody in Blue” had inspired him since childhood.But the album didn’t chart as highly as previous Beach Boys releases and was treated indifferently by the U.S. record label, Capitol. The Beatles, meanwhile, were absorbing lessons from the Beach Boys and teaching some in return. “Revolver” and “Sgt. Pepper,” the Beatles’ next two albums, drew upon the Beach Boys’ vocal tapestries and melodic bass lines and even upon the animal sounds from the title track of “Pet Sounds.” The Beatles’ epic “A Day in the Life” reconfirmed the British band as kings of the pop world and “Sgt. Pepper” as the album to beat.All eyes turned to Wilson and his intended masterpiece — a “teenage symphony to God” he called “Smile.” It was a whimsical cycle of songs on nature and American folklore written with lyricist Van Dyke Parks. The production bordered on method acting; for a song about fire, Wilson wore a fire helmet in the studio. The other Beach Boys were confused, and strained to work with him. A shaken Wilson delayed “Smile,” then canceled it.Remnants, including the songs “Heroes and Villains” and “Wind Chimes” were re-recorded and issued in September 1967 on “Smiley Smile,” dismissed by Carl Wilson as a “bunt instead of a grand slam.” The stripped down “Wild Honey,” released three months later, became a critical favorite but didn’t restore the band’s reputation. The Beach Boys soon descended into an oldies act, out of touch with the radical ’60s, and Wilson withdrew into seclusion.<h2>Years of struggle, and late life validation</h2>Addicted to drugs and psychologically helpless, sometimes idling in a sandbox he had built in his living room, Wilson didn’t fully produce another Beach Boys record for years. Their biggest hit of the 1970s was a greatest hits album, “Endless Summer,” that also helped reestablish them as popular concert performers.Although well enough in the 21st century to miraculously finish “Smile” and tour and record again, Wilson had been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder and baffled interviewers with brief and disjointed answers. Among the stranger episodes of Wilson’s life was his relationship with Dr. Eugene Landy, a psychotherapist accused of holding a Svengali-like power over him. A 1991 lawsuit from Wilson’s family blocked Landy from Wilson’s personal and business affairs.His first marriage, to singer Marilyn Rovell, ended in divorce and he became estranged from daughters Carnie and Wendy, who would help form the pop trio Wilson Phillips. His life stabilized in 1995 with his marriage to Melinda Ledbetter, who gave birth to two more daughters, Daria and Delanie. He also reconciled with Carnie and Wendy and they sang together on the 1997 album “The Wilsons.” (Melinda Ledbetter died in 2024.)In 1992, Brian Wilson eventually won a $10 million out-of-court settlement for lost songwriting royalties. But that victory and his 1991 autobiography, “Wouldn’t It Be Nice: My Own Story,” set off other lawsuits that tore apart the musical family.Carl Wilson and other relatives believed the book was essentially Landy’s version of Brian’s life and questioned whether Brian had even read it. Their mother, Audree Wilson, unsuccessfully sued publisher HarperCollins because the book said she passively watched as her husband beat Brian as a child. Love successfully sued Brian Wilson, saying he was unfairly deprived of royalties after contributing lyrics to dozens of songs. He would eventually gain ownership of the band’s name.The Beach Boys still released an occasional hit single: “Kokomo,” made without Wilson, hit No. 1 in 1988. Wilson, meanwhile, released such solo albums as “Brian Wilson” and “Gettin’ In Over My Head,” with cameos by McCartney and Clapton among others. He also completed a pair of albums for the Walt Disney label — a collection of Gershwin songs and music from Disney movies. In 2012, surviving members of the Beach Boys reunited for a 50th anniversary album, which quickly hit the Top 10 before the group again bickered and separated.Wilson won two just competitive Grammys, for the solo instrumental “Mrs. O’Leary’s Cow” and for “The Smile Sessions” box set. Otherwise, his honors ranged from a Grammy lifetime achievement prize to a tribute at the Kennedy Center to induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. In 2018, he returned to his old high school in Hawthorne and witnessed the literal rewriting of his past: The principal erased an “F” he had been given in music and awarded him an “A.”

Thomas was later pronounced deceased at the scene by Sedgwick County EMS.Investigators determined Doyle was northbound on Hoover when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Johnsaon that then continued driving north.On August 22, police arrested Johnson on felony allegations, according to&nbsp;<a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/InmateSearch/Details.aspx?Id=751504">Sedgwick County booking records.</a>&nbsp; He bonded out of jail the following day.

Kansas man back in court for fatal hit-and-run that killed bicyclist

Salina Police arrested a man on numerous charges after he pointed a gun at a motel employee.

According to the Salina Police Department (SPD) on Tuesday June, 10th at around 7:30 pm, officers responded to the Marifah Inn on 1846 N. 9th after multiple calls were made regarding gunshots being fired. When police arrived to the scene, they spotted two individuals running. Officers were then able to come in contact with one of the individuals who was running.

The individual who came in contact with officers was a 31-year old male employee, who works at the motel. According to SPD, the employee stated that he heard multiple gunshots being fired when he was in his room. He then exited his room and walked around the area to see what was happening, but he did not see anything.

However, the employee noticed a man identified as Jimmy Wells, 37 of Salina. He stated that Wells was behind him and he began to reach into his waistband to pull out a handgun. Once Wells pulled out the gun, he cycled the slide and pointed the gun at the employee, while approaching him. This is when the employee took off running with Wells pursuing after him.

According to police, the second individual who was running from earlier was Wells. An officer chased after Wells who ran behind the motel and as he was running away into some trees, he threw away the gun from his waistband. Wells then stopped and the officer along with others, caught up with him and attempted to arrest him.

Wells then resisted, but was eventually apprehended. 

When the arrest was taking place, a K9 searched the area where Wells was seen throwing away the gun. The K9 then located a 9mm handgun which had the serial numbers removed.

Wells was booked into the Saline County Jail on the following charges:&nbsp;

Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm, Interference with Law Enforcement, Defacing Identification Marks on a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm while under the influence, and Criminal Possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

Police say, Wells appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.

Accordingly, there were no reports made of injuries or anyone who was shot during the event.

The two-vehicle crash occurred near the intersecion of&nbsp;Maple and Osage, according to Wichita Police Officer Kris Gupilan.&nbsp; First responders arrived at the crash scene and began rendering life saving measures to a 72-year-old man, later identified as&nbsp;Rockney G. Lindemann.&nbsp; He was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

EMS transported Epps to an area hospital with serious injuries.&nbsp;

The Wichita Police Department Critical Accident Team and Accident Follow-up Investigators responded to the scene.&nbsp; Just after he was booked into jail, Epps met the requirement for bond and is no longer in custody, according to online jail records.

Driver in fatal Kansas crash accused of murder

Dorothy May Lundstrom, 101, of Topeka, KS and formerly of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2025.&nbsp;

She was born September 23, 1923, in Wichita, KS, the loving daughter of James N. and Freda D. Mosteller.&nbsp; She graduated from Wichita High School North and Wichita Business College.&nbsp; She put her training from Business College to good use, first working in the office of Congressman Edward H. Reese in Washington, D.C. during the early part of WWII, and later working for Bremyer &amp; Wise until 1991 where she was a legal secretary in the probate department.&nbsp;

On November 4, 1945, Dorothy was united in marriage to A. Edward “Bud” Lundstrom in Owego, NY.&nbsp; This union was blessed with a daughter, Gayle. In the spring of 1971, the family moved to McPherson, Kansas.&nbsp; Dorothy and Bud were married for 57 years prior to his passing on Christmas Day in 2002.&nbsp;

Dorothy was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church.&nbsp; She was also a member of &nbsp;Order of Eastern Star where she served as Worthy Matron in 1982, and was also a member of Domestic Dames EHU.&nbsp; She was a Memorial Hospital Auxiliary member where she kept the books for Memorial Hospital Gift Shop, served as Recording Secretary and Corresponding Secretary, and was a 4-year Trustee.

She enjoyed playing bridge and cards with friends, bowling, sewing, walking her dogs, reading, and watching sports.&nbsp; She also had a love for travel and cherished taking her grandchildren on summer trips.

Survivors include her daughter, Gayle Hoglund of Topeka, KS; two grandchildren, Mike (Amber) Hoglund of Topeka, KS and Jill (Josh) Winkleman of St. Marys, KS; four great-grandchildren, Morgan Winkleman, Hunter Hoglund, Miles Hoglund, and Hannah Hoglund; and many extended relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Ernie, David “Junie”, &amp; Roy Mosteller; and a sister, Lou Tinkler.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Friday, June 13, 2025, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.&nbsp; The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 14, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Peter Rehwaldt officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Lindsborg.

Dorothy May Lundstrom

Alden “Al” Duane Eidet&nbsp;78 years old of Beverly, Kansas departed with angels on October 21, 2024 at his home surrounded by family and friends after a long battle with cancer.

He was born April 19, 1946 to Norman H. Eidet and Eleanor A. “Vedvig” Eidet in Stanley, North Dakota. He spent his childhood and school years growing up in North Dakota before entering the oil industry.

He was united in marriage to Myrtle “Ann” Kissick on June 3, 1966 in Tescott, Kansas. They had two children son Terry and daughter Sheila.

Throughout their marriage he showed he was a man of many trades. He worked at the Pepsi and Warta Buick companies in Salina, Kansas. Then he moved his family to Nebraska where he was employed with Good Year and Iseman Mobile Homes in Grand Island, Nebraska. Then he decided to take his family back up to his home area where he shared his trades with Koch and Tioga Air Heaters. As the years went by he and his family came back to Kansas where he became self-employed in running his own mobile home repair and traveling the state delivering the Wheels for You books with his wife. Then he decided to become employed with the Kansas Highway Patrol Troop C as a Custodial Specialist in Salina, Kansas which is where he retired from.

He was a loving husband and extraordinary father who was always so generous, eager and devoted to all his family and friends especially to his grandchildren he was their “Hero”! They always enjoyed hearing his stories and always knew he was very opinionated when it came to whatever was thrown his way. He was known to them as “Pops” or just grandpa. The grandsons knew they could always turn to him if needed any mechanic advice whether it was for their daily cars or race cars and the granddaughters could always depend on him no matter what the reasons. He always had that sense of love and humor no matter what. To all that knew him knew he was one of a kind and will always be in their hearts and mind.

He was a busy man always doing things he enjoyed like going to car races and supporting his drivers and meeting up with family and friends at the track. He loved flea markets and garage sales and always looking to add to his die cast car collection for which he proudly showed in his lighted curio. You could always find him fiddling in his sheds/ shops and even helping “Mom” with the yard work. He was also taking up playing guitar just for some extra entertainment or even singing.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, In-laws Bill and Arlene Kissick, brother Norris Eidet, sister Beatrice and husband Walter “ Sonny” Larson, brother-in-law Ronald Brilz, niece Wanda Holloway, daughter-in-law Mary “Whitson” Eidet and great grandson Gracin Eidet.

As the years went by he and his family came back to Kansas where he became self-employed in running his own mobile home repair and traveling the state delivering the Wheels for You books with his wife. Then he decided to become employed with the Kansas Highway Patrol Troop C as a Custodial Specialist in Salina, Kansas which is where he retired from.He was a loving husband and extraordinary father who was always so generous, eager and devoted to all his family and friends especially to his grandchildren he was their “Hero”! They always enjoyed hearing his stories and always knew he was very opinionated when it came to whatever was thrown his way. He was known to them as “Pops” or just grandpa. The grandsons knew they could always turn to him if needed any mechanic advice whether it was for their daily cars or race cars and the granddaughters could always depend on him no matter what the reasons. He always had that sense of love and humor no matter what. To all that knew him knew he was one of a kind and will always be in their hearts and mind.He was a busy man always doing things he enjoyed like going to car races and supporting his drivers and meeting up with family and friends at the track. He loved flea markets and garage sales and always looking to add to his die cast car collection for which he proudly showed in his lighted curio. You could always find him fiddling in his sheds/ shops and even helping “Mom” with the yard work. A male suspect was arrested after assaulting a woman and resisting Salina officers.

According to the Salina Police Department on Friday, June 6th between 6:30 pm - 6:59 pm, officers were sent to the 600 block of Jameson in reference to a domestic disturbance. It was reported that a 30-year old male suspect identified as Devin Thurston, physically assaulted a 29-year old Salina female. The two are acquainted&nbsp;

Reportedly, Thurston assaulted the woman in which she received injuries to her neck, face and other parts of her body. Thurston also damaged a bathroom door, along with the victim's eyeglasses. Damaging costs were $200.

Officers then arrived to the home, but Thurston was not present. Moments later, Thurston was seen walking back to the residence and when police attempted to arrest him, he resisted. However, officers subdued Thurston and he was arrested.

Thurston was booked into the Saline County Jail for Aggravated Domestic Battery, Criminal Damage to Property and Interference with Law Enforcement.

It was not reported whether the victim received or needed medical treatment.

That is, if they’re customers only taking carry-on bags.

Effective this week, United’s “check-in cutoff” for most U.S. flights will be 45 minutes&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/laguardia-airport-close-call-faa-ntsb-821fcc0a18d5da17b832b2e17af765c0">before departure</a>. That’s the same deadline United has for passengers&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/senate-hearing-airlines-fees-seats-bags-3cd4a1fc1b29fc04f9607adea7b5bdf4">checking luggage</a>&nbsp;at the airport but 15 minutes earlier than the current one for people without bags to check.

In an email to The Associated Press, a United spokesperson said the change to a single cut-off minimum “brings greater consistency for our customers” and conforms with the policies of many other airlines.

Checking in for a flight confirms a passenger’s booking and intent to travel ahead of takeoff. Most major U.S. carriers have online check-in systems that can be used at least 24 hours in advance, so the process no longer reflects when many travelers arrive at the airport. But it’s still an important step since boarding passes are issued once check-ins are completed.

Check-in window for US airlines have changed; how they compare

NEW YORK (AP) — Federal prosecutors&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/chinese-scientists-charged-toxic-fungus-5ccaba9aff8e5941ebcea71b9b6690b2">charged two Chinese researchers</a>&nbsp;on Tuesday with smuggling a crop-killing fungus into the U.S. last summer — charges that come amid&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-china-tariffs-trade-war-xi-34e0fc90f720dfd0dd1e41336dd907d6">heightened political tensions</a>&nbsp;between the two countries and as the Trump administration&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-china-student-visa-republicans-056bb72cd0f06f6ea0148c3bbcac9be6">moves to revoke visas</a>&nbsp;from visiting Chinese students.

Yunqing Jian and Zunyong Liu are charged with conspiracy, smuggling, making false statements and visa fraud for allegedly bringing the fungus Fusarium graminearum into the U.S. Jian, 33, was booked in a Detroit federal court. Liu, 34, is thought to be in China.

According to the FBI, Liu had small baggies of the fungus stashed in his backpack when he flew to the U.S. last year and, after claiming ignorance about the plant material inside them, said he was planning to use it for research at a University of Michigan lab where Jian worked and where Liu previously worked.

Fusarium graminearum causes a disease called Fusarium head blight that can wipe out&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/morocco-grain-harvest-climate-change-agriculture-drought-34dc3fefa4a6ab182e4a5c3c70c90751">cereal crops</a>&nbsp;such as wheat, barley and maize and rice — it inflicts $1 billion in losses annually on U.S. wheat and barley crops, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

It isn’t the only fungus to cause Fusarium head blight, but it’s the most common culprit in the U.S. The fungus infects plants early in the growing season, shriveling wheat grains and blanching crop heads a whitish-tan color. It also causes a toxin to accumulate in wheat kernels that can make them unsafe for people and livestock to eat.

Nicknamed “vomitoxin” because it’s most known for causing livestock to throw up, it can also cause diarrhea, abdominal pain, headache and fever in animals and people.

Wheat and other grain crops are screened for various toxins, including Fusarium graminearum, before they can be used to feed animals and humans. Farmers have to throw out any infected grains, which can cause devastating losses.

“It’s one of the many problems that farmers have to deal with that risks their livelihood,” said David Geiser, a Fusarium expert at Penn State.

Although Jian and Liu are accused of smuggling Fusarium graminearum into the country, the fungus is already prevalent in the U.S. — particularly in the east and Upper Midwest — and scientists have been studying it for decades.

Researchers often bring foreign plants, animals and even strains of fungi to the U.S. to study them, but they must file certain permits before moving anything across state or national borders. Studying the genes of a foreign fungus strain, for example, can help scientists learn how it tolerates heat, resists pesticides or mutates.

“We look at variations among individuals just like we do humans,” said Nicole Gauthier, a plant pathologist at the University of Kentucky who studies Fusarium.

That said, it’s unclear why the Chinese researchers might have wanted to bring that strain of Fusarium graminearum into the U.S. and why they didn’t fill out the proper paperwork to do so.

 </figure>NEW YORK (AP) — Federal prosecutors&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/chinese-scientists-charged-toxic-fungus-5ccaba9aff8e5941ebcea71b9b6690b2">charged two Chinese researchers</a>&nbsp;on Tuesday with smuggling a crop-killing fungus into the U.S. last summer — charges that come amid&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-china-tariffs-trade-war-xi-34e0fc90f720dfd0dd1e41336dd907d6">heightened political tensions</a>&nbsp;between the two countries and as the Trump administration&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-china-student-visa-republicans-056bb72cd0f06f6ea0148c3bbcac9be6">moves to revoke visas</a>&nbsp;from visiting Chinese students.Yunqing Jian and Zunyong Liu are charged with conspiracy, smuggling, making false statements and visa fraud for allegedly bringing the fungus Fusarium graminearum into the U.S. Jian, 33, was booked in a Detroit federal court. Liu, 34, is thought to be in China.According to the FBI, Liu had small baggies of the fungus stashed in his backpack when he flew to the U.S. last year and, after claiming ignorance about the plant material inside them, said he was planning to use it for research at a University of Michigan lab where Jian worked and where Liu previously worked.<h2>What is Fusarium head blight?</h2>Fusarium graminearum causes a disease called Fusarium head blight that can wipe out&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/morocco-grain-harvest-climate-change-agriculture-drought-34dc3fefa4a6ab182e4a5c3c70c90751">cereal crops</a>&nbsp;such as wheat, barley and maize and rice — it inflicts $1 billion in losses annually on U.S. wheat and barley crops, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.It isn’t the only fungus to cause Fusarium head blight, but it’s the most common culprit in the U.S. The fungus infects plants early in the growing season, shriveling wheat grains and blanching crop heads a whitish-tan color. It also causes a toxin to accumulate in wheat kernels that can make them unsafe for people and livestock to eat.Nicknamed “vomitoxin” because it’s most known for causing livestock to throw up, it can also cause diarrhea, abdominal pain, headache and fever in animals and people.Wheat and other grain crops are screened for various toxins, including Fusarium graminearum, before they can be used to feed animals and humans. Farmers have to throw out any infected grains, which can cause devastating losses.“It’s one of the many problems that farmers have to deal with that risks their livelihood,” said David Geiser, a Fusarium expert at Penn State.<h2>What are the accusations?</h2>Although Jian and Liu are accused of smuggling Fusarium graminearum into the country, the fungus is already prevalent in the U.S. — particularly in the east and Upper Midwest — and scientists have been studying it for decades.Researchers often bring foreign plants, animals and even strains of fungi to the U.S. to study them, but they must file certain permits before moving anything across state or national borders. On May 22, police arrested her in the 300 Block of West Tyler in Wichita, according to Sedgwick County booking reports.&nbsp;

She met the requirements of a $50,000 bond and is no longer in custody, according to online jail records. She is due back in court on June 16, according to the district attorney's office.

Just after 10:30a.m.&nbsp; June 2, a Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a Buick Century passenger car on J. Road near 150th Road in rural Jackson County, according to Sheriff Tim Morse.

 The driver, Scott Phillip Carter, 67, of Topeka, was arrested and booked into the Jackson County Jail on requested charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of a hallucinogenic drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while suspended and no insurance. Also, a previous passenger of the vehicle was later arrested.  Sarah Louise Leonard, 40, of Topeka, was booked into the Jackson County Jail on a requested charge of forgery, possession of THC and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Kansas suspects accused of forgery, drug possession

Salina Police arrested the male suspect who caused another fire at First Bank Kansas, after starting one a day prior to his arrest.

According to the Salina Police Department on Thursday, June 5th at around 11:00 pm, a witness of Salina was driving past First Bank Kansas on 1333 W. Crawford <a href="https://salinapost.com/posts/200e2b1a-5999-4f0a-bb99-2841ab59e914">where the crime initially took place&nbsp;on June, 4th</a>. The individual noticed the side of the bank was on fire and drove closer to where the fire was taking place.&nbsp;Furthermore, the individual noticed an SUV leaving area.

Police state that the witness stopped the fire by stomping out a piece of plywood, which was set by the suspect to start the fire. Officers then received report and during the investigation, bank employees had given a name of a possible suspect who was reportedly angry with the bank.

Officers then arrived to the suspect's house on 1600 W. Republic Ave. and located the SUV that matched the description of the witness report. Officers discovered the suspect was in the home as well and arrested 43-year old, Mathew Phouthavong.

Phouthavong was booked into the Saline County Jail on 2 counts of Arson.

A man was arrested after sexually assaulting a child at a Salina home and police are currently investigating further.

Kan. woman accused in Christmas Eve death of pregnant woman, unborn child

WASHINGTON (AP) —&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/us-supreme-court">The Supreme Court</a>&nbsp;on Thursday handed down a unanimous ruling in a religious rights case, finding that a Catholic charity in Wisconsin can’t be required to pay unemployment taxes when other religious groups are exempt.

The high court said the state’s tax decisions created an advantage for groups with a more overtly religious tone in their daily work, a violation of the First Amendment.

“It is fundamental to our constitutional order that the government maintain ‘neutrality between religion and religion,’” Justice Sonia Sotomayor wrote in the opinion. ”There may be hard calls to make in policing that rule, but this is not one.”

Wisconsin argued the Catholic Charities Bureau has paid the tax for more than 50 years and doesn’t qualify for an exemption because its day-to-day work doesn’t involve religious teachings. Much of the groups’ funding is from public money, and neither employees nor people receiving services have to belong to any faith, according to court papers.

Catholic Charities, though, said that it qualifies because its services to people who are disabled, low-income or elderly are motivated by religious beliefs and that the state shouldn’t be making determinations about what work qualifies as religious.

The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, which represented the group, heralded the ruling as a major victory for religious liberty. “It was always absurd to claim that Catholic Charities wasn’t religious because it helps everyone, no matter their religion,” said Eric Rassbach, vice president and senior counsel.

The ruling is expected to allow the Catholic charity to pull out of the state’s unemployment system in favor of one operated by the faith.

The ruling could have wider effects around the country. Many states have tax exemptions for religious organizations and some big employers, like hospital systems, that have religious affiliations. “It’s awfully hard to read the tea leaves into the future, but this ruling could have seismic implications,” said tax attorney Lance Jacobs, with the firm Forvis Mazars.

The group Freedom From Religion condemned the ruling. “Treating religiously affiliated nonprofits the same as all other nonprofits is not a violation of the First Amendment,” co-president Annie Laurie Gaylor said.

The charity appealed to the justices after Wisconsin’s highest court ruled against it. President Donald Trump’s administration weighed in on behalf of Catholic Charities.

The conservative-majority court has issued&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/supreme-court-coach-prayer-2981a8073ea82a1a688c367270c941aa">a string of decisions</a>&nbsp;siding with churches and religious plaintiffs in recent years.
