Warren Leon Otte left this world on Sunday, May 21, 2023 at the age of 76.&nbsp; He will be sadly missed and will always hold a place in our hearts.

Warren was always interested in how things worked and Grace often shared stories of his interest in her small appliances; taking them apart and only occasionally returning them to their original working condition. This was only the beginning of his love of electronics which led him to a career as a pioneer in the field of computer technology.

After graduating Downs High School in 1964, he attended the Denver Electronic Institute and learned to repair electronic typewriters.&nbsp; In 1970, he studied integrated circuits (microchips) technology and computer wiring at an IBM technical school, which led to relocating to California and a job in Silicon Valley.&nbsp; His career not only took him across the country but internationally, including many trips to Korea, Japan, and Australia.

He retired and returned to Downs after the passing of his mother in 2014.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Grace, and his brother Weldon.

He is survived by his wife, Anne Mather Otte, his children Kristi Gamble (Scott), Janna Frederick, Kate Knight (Darrick) and Melissa Otte and eleven grandchildren: Jacalyn Gamble, Jessica Gamble, Jennifer Schmitt (Dustin), Charles Nathan Frederick (Erin Bandy), Taysja Sevilla, Trennon Sevilla, Tyson Sevilla, Talon Sevilla, Hayden Otte, Tegan Woodall, and Danny Woodall.

A Celebration of Life visitation will be held July 29, 2023 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Domoney Funeral Home in Downs, Kansas. Memorials may be given to Downs Parks in Recreation or KDPW Youth Fishing in care of Domoney Funeral Home, PO Box 127, Downs, Kansas 67437.

Glen R. Gutka, age 75, entered into rest on Monday, July 24, 2023 at the Salina Regional Health Center, Salina, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born on July 7, 1948 to Robert and Mary (Elder) Gutka in Denver, Colorado.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Glen attended grade school in Hedville, Kansas and then going to high school in Brookville, Kansas, until moving to the Aurora community.&nbsp;&nbsp;Glen was a 1965 graduate of Miltonvale High&nbsp;&nbsp;School, Miltonvale, Kansas.

He served in the United States Army in Germany and later he was sent and served in the Vietnam War.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was honorably discharged.

Glen worked in the construction business for BJ Koetting, LLC for 27 years.&nbsp;&nbsp;He also farmed with his brother Gary and owned and operated their own custom swathing and bailing operation.

Glen enjoyed fishing, camping, and mostly working on the farm.

He is survived by his brother, Gary Gutka, Aurora, KS; and several cousins.

He was preceded by his parents and a brother, John.

Visitation will be held from 9-10:30 a.m., Monday morning before service time.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 31, 2023 at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, Kansas, with Pastor Dwight Whitead officiating.&nbsp;

Carol J. Norris, 79, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, surrounded by family at Angel Arms, McPherson.&nbsp;

Carol was born on June 25, 1944, in Haddam, KS, the daughter of Kenneth Elvin and Louisa Jane (Nieman) Rhine.&nbsp; She graduated from Haddam High School and attended Emporia State University.&nbsp; On June 20, 1964, Carol was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Henry Norris in Haddam, KS.&nbsp; This union was blessed with a daughter, Kendra.&nbsp; Bob preceded Carol in death on March 1, 2018.

Carol owned and operated McPherson Answering Service and McPherson Cab Company.&nbsp; She attended Countryside Covenant Church.

Survivors include: her daughter, Kendra Kuchta (Donald) of McPherson, KS; six grandchildren, Preston Diederich (Allie), Misti Unruh (Landon), Kali Graber (Zach), D.J. Hilzer (Lucy), Skyler Hilzer (Amanda), and Nikki Smith (Trevor); 15 great-grandchildren; half-siblings, Susan “Sue” Peltier (David) of Concordia, KS, Linda Friess (J.D.) of Neodesha, KS, Robert “Bobby” Mahurin of Sparks, NV, Janet “DeeDee” Blair of Modesto, CA, and Jean Mahurin of Millbrae, CA; and many extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Rhine; mother, Louisa Mahurin; step-mother, Garnett Rhine; and husband, Robert “Bob” Norris.

Roy Don Wright, 81, of Luray, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.

Don was born August 1, 1941 in Kansas City, Missouri. The son of Henry and Edith (Pasmore) Wright. He grew up in Kansas City until the age of five when his family moved to Shenandoah, Iowa. After five years they returned to the Kansas City area. Then, in high school, his family moved to Santa Ana, California where he graduated from high school. Don served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1962. He served on the USS Matthews, a cargo ship. After his tour he returned to Santa Ana.

Don was united in marriage to Lynne Fenton on September 28, 1962 in Costa Mesa, California. This union was blessed with a son, Thomas. They were given over 60 years of marriage together. Most of these years were filled with hard work, but also much love and devotion. They were a team, increasingly aware with the passage of time that the Lord held them in His hands. They lived in Washington state, southern Kansas, eastern Oregon, Arkansas, and then moved to Luray in 2003.

Don was blessed with the ability to do many things during his life. He was a truck driver, a mill man at a feed yard, a cutter-grader at Marvin Wood Products in Oregon, a welder, owner and operator of the “Hob Nob” restaurant in Protection, Kansas. He was a member of the Amherst Church. He enjoyed fishing, outdoor photography, traveling with Lynne and creating originally designed greeting cards. Don was unassuming, usually more at home in the background. He put a high value on friendship and was willing to go the extra mile in any way he could.

Don is with the Lord now, joyful and free of any sorrow or pain. He loved his family from the depths of his heart. He leaves behind his wife Lynne of the home; son, Thomas Wright and wife Heather of Pratt, Kansas; as well as cousins, nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Wright; and sisters, Ruth Showalter and Betty Smith.

A Graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, July 21, 2023 at the Amherst Cemetery in rural Russell County. No visitation is being held. A Memorial has been established with Amherst Church. Deryl Dean Marsell, 86, of Salina, Kan., passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2023. He was born on June 25, 1937, in Green, Kan., to George and Edna (Lowry) Marsell.

Deryl graduated high school in Ada, Kan., and attended Fort Hays State University before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1956. He was a career federal employee and retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Springfield, Mo. In retirement, he volunteered at CoxHealth Medical Center for 22 years. He and his wife, Mary, loved to travel, seeing 48 of the 50 states. His idea of fun consisted of playing all types of games, working on crossword puzzles, playing golf, and dancing and singing with Mary. He was a BIG KU basketball fan and loved the St. Louis Cardinals too. His great sense of humor will be missed the most.

Survivors include his sons, Darren Marsell (Kris), of Lorraine, Kan., Doug Marsell (Karen), of Russell, Kan., and Kent Pack, of Kansas City, Kan.; daughters, Rhonda Carryer (Robert), of Ogden, Kan., and Kim Pack, of California; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary (Skala) Marsell; and sisters, Mildred Russell, Wanda Andrews, and her husband, John.

The visitation will be from 12-8 p.m. on Friday, July 28, with family present from 5-8, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, at Ryan Mortuary. Deryl will be laid to rest next to Mary at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Springfield, Mo.

Deryl Dean Marsell

Dr. Milo “Mike” Goss Sloo, III, 81, of Salina, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at Presbyterian Manor with his loving wife Carol Ann by his side.

Mike was born July 31, 1941 in Topeka, KS to Milo G. Sloo, Jr. and Betty Margaret (Adams) Sloo. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1959 and received a BA from the University of Kansas in 1963. He went on to pursue a career in medicine, graduating from the University of Kansas Medical school in 1967, interned at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, MO 1967-68, and completed residency at Dickson-Diveley Clinic, Kansas City, MO 1968-72 (St. Luke’s Hospital, Children’s Mercy Hospital, General Hospital, V.A. Hospital). He received his Orthopaedic Surgery Board Certification in 1973, and served as a Major in the U.S. Army Medical Corps until 1974.

Mike was an orthopaedic surgeon in Salina for 33 years, and performed more than 17,000 major surgeries since the start of practice in 1974. During his career, he served as Asbury Chief of Staff, managing partner of Orthopaedic Clinic of Salina, President of Salina Surgical hospital, President of SSH Real Estate, Rotarian and recognized Paul Harris fellow, Board member of Bank VI, President of Salina Imaging Center, and Kansas State Board member of Healing Arts. He was also part of many professional organizations including the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation, Kansas Medical Society, Kansas Orthopaedic Society, Saline County Medical Society, American Medical Association, and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Outside of his professional life, Mike loved to travel with Carol Ann, spend time with his grandkids, visit an occasional car show, and meet weekly with friends in a retired doctors coffee group he started back in 2007. Mike was a philanthropist at heart and supported many charitable organizations. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served as a board member of the church’s Foundation, Greater Salina Community Foundation, Salina Presbyterian Manor’s board, and focused on education efforts through the KU endowment Chancellor’s Club and Williams Education Fund. He invested time, energy, and financial backing to KU School of Medicine-Salina since its opening in 2011 and passionately said, “I feel that I should be a good steward of the things God has given me in life. What better way than to help train brilliant, young minds to be physicians?”

Mike will be remembered as kind, compassionate, generous, intelligent, quick witted, and a lifelong learner. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Ann; children, Mark Sloo (Mindy), Suzanne Sloo, Laurie Constable Orosco (Cesar); sister, Martha Kruckemyer (Dr. Alan); brother-in-law, David Claus (Becky); grandchildren, Myranda Sloo, Ayva Sloo, Keefe Bateman, Nicholas Orosco, Matthew Orosco; and nephews/niece, David Kruckemyer, Brian Kruckemyer, Lisa Claus.

 </figure>Dr. Milo “Mike” Goss Sloo, III, 81, of Salina, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at Presbyterian Manor with his loving wife Carol Ann by his side.Mike was born July 31, 1941 in Topeka, KS to Milo G. Sloo, Jr. and Betty Margaret (Adams) Sloo. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1959 and received a BA from the University of Kansas in 1963. He went on to pursue a career in medicine, graduating from the University of Kansas Medical school in 1967, interned at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, MO 1967-68, and completed residency at Dickson-Diveley Clinic, Kansas City, MO 1968-72 (St. Luke’s Hospital, Children’s Mercy Hospital, General Hospital, V.A. Hospital). He received his Orthopaedic Surgery Board Certification in 1973, and served as a Major in the U.S. Army Medical Corps until 1974.Mike was an orthopaedic surgeon in Salina for 33 years, and performed more than 17,000 major surgeries since the start of practice in 1974. During his career, he served as Asbury Chief of Staff, managing partner of Orthopaedic Clinic of Salina, President of Salina Surgical hospital, President of SSH Real Estate, Rotarian and recognized Paul Harris fellow, Board member of Bank VI, President of Salina Imaging Center, and Kansas State Board member of Healing Arts. He was also part of many professional organizations including the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation, Kansas Medical Society, Kansas Orthopaedic Society, Saline County Medical Society, American Medical Association, and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.Outside of his professional life, Mike loved to travel with Carol Ann, spend time with his grandkids, visit an occasional car show, and meet weekly with friends in a retired doctors coffee group he started back in 2007. Mike was a philanthropist at heart and supported many charitable organizations. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served as a board member of the church’s Foundation, Greater Salina Community Foundation, Salina Presbyterian Manor’s board, and focused on education efforts through the KU endowment Chancellor’s Club and Williams Education Fund. He invested time, energy, and financial backing to KU School of Medicine-Salina since its opening in 2011 and passionately said, “I feel that I should be a good steward of the things God has given me in life. What better way than to help train brilliant, young minds to be physicians?”Mike will be remembered as kind, compassionate, generous, intelligent, quick witted, and a lifelong learner. Virginia (Garman) Pettit, 84, of Hueytown, AL passed away on Friday, July 14, 2023, at&nbsp;Self Care Health &amp; Rehab, Hueytown, AL.

Virginia was born on August 9, 1938, on her parent’s farm north of Burr Oak, Kansas, the daughter of Robert and Helen (Miller) Garman.&nbsp; She spent her earlier years playing and working on the farm with her Brother’s and Sister’s (Jean, Robert, Daniel and Sandra).&nbsp;&nbsp;Her cherished memory was getting to go to the wheat fields to ride on the tractor with her dad when she was little.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;A couple of her fondest memories with her siblings growing up was listening to the Grand Ol’ Opery show on a battery-operated radio, playing Andy andy over and on Saturday nights the whole family would load up in the car and drive into Guide Rock NE to the dances.

She attended and graduated from Burr Oak High School in 1956.

Her pride and joy were her three son’s and a daughter (Robert, Douglas, Janet and Steven) she was blessed with through the years. Along with becoming a Grandma of 7 Grandchildren (Lindsey, Lexis, Stephanie, Samantha, Wyatt, and Joshua. 9 Great-grandchildren (Eloise, Jaden, Annalise, Jo, Grayson, ZaRiyah, Cobe, Connor, and Liam).

On October 3rd, 1987 she married her childhood playmate David Pettit, who lived right up the road when they were growing up.

Always an entrepreneur at heart, through the years Virginia owned and operated 4 restaurants and an antique store in Nebraska and Kansas. She often joked that she and Dave retired and moved back to Mankato, Kansas, and retirement only lasted a few months. She saw that Bob’s Inn in Mankato had closed down. She purchased it and came out of retirement to operate it. In 2007 Virginia and Dave sold Bob’s Inn and finally retired for the final time. Never to let the grass grow under her feet, she would take order and bake kolache’s from her home during retirement. She also wrote and published her own cookbook during retirement.

Virginia loved her dog Twiggy and she also enjoyed having people come over and play cards, fishing, reading, cooking, and word puzzle books.&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp;Virginia loved Jesus and attended various churches through the years. As a little girl of 8, her Aunt &amp; Uncle who were Missionaries came to visit. They took her to a tent revival meeting. A day that changed her life forever, as she walked down the aisle to the Old Rugged Cross being sung. She asked Jesus to be her Lord and Savior.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jerry was born in Salina, Kansas on October 21, 1942, a son of the late Florence Ursula (Nichols) and Marvin Andrew Lehman. Jerry was well into his 50s before stumbling across his dream job at Screen Factory and Glass Shop for 14 years.&nbsp; He spent much of his career in the construction business, traveling the area erecting metal buildings. He then did antique furniture repair and refinishing. Survivors include his two daughters, Melinda Capriotti (John), of New Jersey, Michelle Walker (Mike), of Norman, Oklahoma; 8 grandsons; and his sister, Judy Hammon, of Salina, Kansas.&nbsp; He is preceded in death by his parents and wife, Carolyn. Living all her life in the New Cambria and Salina area, she attended school in Solomon, KS. She was united in marriage June 3, 1994 to Dale L. Youngdahl who preceded her in death in 1997.&nbsp; Pat attended Salina Vo-Tech obtaining her certification as a nurse's aide after which she worked in several local nursing homes.&nbsp; She also worked at Rema Bakeware and Salina Regional Health Center in the laundry.&nbsp; She was a member of Emmanuel Church, Salina. Her focus in life was caring for others and her family, especially her nieces and nephews.

Pat was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and one brother, Steve Nelson. She is survived by her brothers, Larry (Claudia) Nelson, Ron (Deb) Nelson, Randy (Cindy) Nelson, all of New Cambria and many loving nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Barbara E. Wallace, 80, of McPherson, KS, passed away on Friday, July 7, 2023, at her vacation home in Dubois, WY.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Barbara was born on February 14, 1943, at the Menorah Hospital in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of James and Ruth (Gordon) Benson.&nbsp; She spent her earlier years in Russellville, MO, attending school and enjoying summers with her grandparents, aunts, and uncles.&nbsp; She either attended the &nbsp;Church of Christ there in Russellville or in Kansas City, KS.&nbsp; Following graduation from Wyandotte High School (Kansas City, KS) in 1961, she began working as a secretary for a local business.&nbsp;

On July 26, 1968, Barbara married Larry Roland Wallace in Kansas City, MO.&nbsp; Larry had a daughter, Kimberly, and Barbara welcomed her with open arms.&nbsp; At this time, Larry was the general manager for Gene Cable Chevrolet.&nbsp; On March 3, 1974, Larry and Barbara were blessed with the birth of their son, Chris.&nbsp; The family lived in the Kansas City area until April 1978, when they moved to McPherson, KS and purchased Turner Chevrolet, which would later become Wallace Chevrolet-Oldsmobile, Inc.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Larry and Barbara enjoyed traveling together.&nbsp; They visited many places in the United States including Alaska and Hawaii.&nbsp; They also traveled to Canada, Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Caribbean.&nbsp; They also made many trips to Kansas City, Nevada, Missouri, and Colorado Springs to visit family.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Barbara enjoyed fishing with Larry, working puzzles, and bird watching, having marked many pages in her bird book.&nbsp; Barbara and Larry purchased their vacation home in Dubois, WY, and soon, the mountains became her favorite place to be.&nbsp; She had numerous hummingbird feeders out and enjoyed watching deer in their yard.

Her pride and joy were her six grandchildren, Megan, Eric, Tiffany, Trisha, Alayna, and Hayden.&nbsp; She loved spending time with them and attending their many activities.&nbsp; She even had a separate grandchildren calendar just to record all their activities, never wanting to miss an event.&nbsp; She enjoyed playing games with them. Some of the favorite games were Pitch, Stinko, and Solitaire.&nbsp; As the grandchildren got older, she would wait by the phone for their calls.

Barbara especially enjoyed Christmas eve, breaking out the Christmas carol books and singing with the family.&nbsp; Watching the grandchildren perform and open presents was a special highlight of hers.&nbsp; Her family would insist on Thanksgiving and Christmas be at her house every year as she was known for her “silver trays” full of various sides to go with the turkey and ham.

Attending her P.E.O. Chapter HI meetings, swimming with the neighbors, attending McPherson Opera House shows, and getting her hair done were some of her other favorites.&nbsp; A memorable evening at the McPherson Opera House was meeting and visiting with Larry Gatlin and The Gatlin Brothers.&nbsp; She even had her picture taken with them.&nbsp;

Barbara loved God and was a member of McPherson Church of Christ.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Survivors include: children, Kimberly (Evan) McHugh of Knoxville, TN and Chris (Catrina) Wallace of Moundridge, KS; and six grandchildren, Megan McHugh of the Netherlands, Eric McHugh of Knoxville, TN, Tiffany McChesney of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Trisha McHugh of Indianapolis, IN, Alayna Wallace of Kansas City, MO, and Hayden Wallace of Moundridge, KS.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings, Linda Maurer and Gordon Benson.

The family will receive friends&nbsp;from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Friday, July 28, 2023, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.&nbsp; A private graveside service will be held at McPherson Cemetery.

Ann Laverne Farrier, 97, of McPherson, KS and formerly of Lawrence, KS, peacefully passed away on Monday, July 10, 2023, surrounded by family at McPherson Hospital

Laverne was born on August 15, 1925, in Shidler, OK, the daughter of Frank and Mary Lee (Kingsolver) Phillips.&nbsp; She graduated high school in Neosho, MO.&nbsp; On January 12, 1946, Laverne was united in marriage to Fred Farrier in Baxter Springs, KS.&nbsp; This union was blessed with three children, Peggy, Kathleen, and Daniel. Laverne and Fred were married for 67 years before his passing on August 29, 2013.

Laverne was a homemaker, worked for Hallmark Cards, and was an operator for Bell Telephone.&nbsp;

She was a member of McPherson church of Christ and former member of the Southside church of Christ in Lawrence, KS.&nbsp; She belonged to the Hallmark Club.&nbsp;

Survivors include: three children, Peggy Lynn (Michael) Bassham of Sulfur Springs, TX, Kathleen (Dr. Gregory) Thomas of McPherson, KS, and Daniel (Marsha) Farrier of Georgetown, TX; eight grandchildren, Ann Kathleen (Jeff) Demuth, Stephanie (Richard) George, Susan (Brian) Heflin, Megan (Stephen) Eck, Dr. Reid (Kem) Thomas, Sarah Thomas, Shelley (Todd) Tindel, and Emily (Roy) McGhee; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and five siblings.

Ann Laverne Farrier

James “Jim”Koch, 73 years of age, of Clyde, entered into rest on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at the Overland Park Regional Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas. Jim was born March 29, 1950 in Concordia, Kansas to Herman and Mayme (McCawley)Koch.

Jim was a 1968 graduate of Clyde High School.&nbsp; He received his Bachelors of Science in History&nbsp;from Kansas State University (KSU), Manhattan, Kansas in 1972.

He married Jacqueline D. Hurley on August 11, 1973 at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Belleville. Jim and Jackie were proud parents of two children: Jeff and Julie.

He was a lifetime farmer-stockman in the Clyde community. In addition, Jim was a bank officer in several area banks including becoming President of Peoples Exchange Bank at Clyde.

He served on USD #224 School Board, Clyde Area Foundation, a trustee for the Woods Charitable Trust, Clyde Public Building Commission, Cloud County Health Center Board of Trustees, Cloud County Community College Board of Trustees and Foundation Board, KSU Alumni Association Board, KSU Intercollegiate Athletic Council, President of North Central Kansas Catbacker Club, Concordia Chamber of Commerce Ag Division Chair, National Farmers Organization, and Kansas Bankers Association.

Jim was a member of&nbsp;St. Joseph Catholic Church including the Parish Council,&nbsp;St. John’s the Baptist Catholic Church including the Finance Council, and Knights of Columbus Council #1999.

Jim enjoyed KSU athletics, farming, and helping his bank customers achieve their goals.

James is survived by his, wife Jacqueline, son, Jeff (Jennifer)&nbsp;Koch, of Clyde, KS; daughter, Julie (Kevin) Simpson, Overland Park, KS; brother, Thomas (Victorine)&nbsp;Koch, Concordia, KS; four grandchildren Bradley (Baylie)&nbsp;Koch, of Clyde, KS; Douglas&nbsp;Koch&nbsp;(fiancé Lauren Schmitt), Clyde, KS; Audrey and Landon Simpson, Overland Park, KS.&nbsp; As well as 10 nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Mayme and step-mother, Elsine&nbsp;Koch, sister Ann Marie, and grandson Steven.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, July 15, 2023 in the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Clyde with Fr. Steven Heina officiating. Interment will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Clyde, Kansas.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM Friday, July 14, 2023 at Chaput Mortuary in Clyde.

Then moving to the St. John the Baptist Church for a Knights of Columbus Rosary service will be prayed at 6:00 P.M. Family will greet friends after the Rosary Service.

Freed from physical limitations,&nbsp;Florence LaVaughn (Moore) McRae&nbsp;(98) was escorted to Heaven by God’s angels on Thursday, July 6, 2023.&nbsp; She was born in Salina, Kansas to Alva A. Moore and Gladys E. Moore on Friday February 13, 1925. She was the second child of what would be a family of six children: Lynn, the oldest, (Mary), Florence #2 (Tom McRae), Gladdy #3 (Bob Helhorst), Charlie #4 (Sonya, sole surviving sister-in-law), Mazie #5 (Bob Leiker) and her sole surviving sibling Jim #6 (Lee), who was responsible for giving Florence the family’s nickname for her.&nbsp; As a toddler he could not say “Florence” so he just called her “Shug” after a song she always sang to him (“Sugartime” by the McGuire Sisters). It stuck throughout her life.&nbsp; She loved being a part of a large family. There were always family gatherings when her siblings visited after they left and started their own families. Florence, Mazie, her best friend and sister, and their parents remained lifelong residents of the Salina community.

In July of 1946 she married Thomas James McRae who was freshly out of the US Army Air Corp, being stationed at Smoky Hill Air Force Base. During this time Florence was a telephone operator. She met her husband to be at a USO dance in Salina, KS. They were married for 70 years until the time Tommy passed in 2017.

She attended Hawthorne Elementary school, Roosevelt-Lincoln Junior High, and Salina High School.&nbsp; She learned the art of homemaking from her mother and became an excellent cook. There was never a failure in any respect with her performance in the kitchen!&nbsp; Homemade noodles, breads and sweet baked goods, including the most wonderful pies were a part of her repertoire. Bierocks remain a family favorite.&nbsp; Holiday dinners were a delectable display of the most wonderful foods. Meals were a work of art!&nbsp; She also was an amazing seamstress with the ability to put the most fashionable ideas together. Her two daughters, Debbra Lynne McRae Adrian, and Teresa Joy McRae Rawson, greatly benefited from her seamstress ability. She sewed complete wardrobes for their dolls as they grew up.&nbsp; She sewed many special outfits for her grand boys, Reid McRae Adrian and Paul Thomas Adrian. Grandma Shug taught the boys to sew when they were in junior high. Some may remember that jams (colorful surfer shorts) were the rage at one point. She and the boys collaborated to make many pairs of this flashy attire. And she embroidered on each one of them a trademark: Gram Jams!

Besides being an excellent homemaker, Florence was actively involved in PTA and in the girls’ Brownie and Girl Scout Troops. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church which was an important weekly destination.&nbsp; Of course, habitually sitting in exactly the same pew was the ritual. She also completed the intense and lengthy Disciple Bible Course.

When the girls were older, 12 or so, she decided to earn a little extra money by working at the Roosevelt-Lincoln cafeteria. She enjoyed working with a lot of good women who became close friends. Her job was to make the delicious bread every day.&nbsp; Her next endeavor was another plus for the females in the family. She became a salesperson in the shoe department of Stiefel’s.&nbsp; It’s amazing that she made any money because of all the beautiful shoes we would acquire. Eventually she resigned that job when the grandchildren came along.

She was a very involved grandmother and helped when needed by entertaining her grandsons Reid and Paul, in various ways. Her great-granddaughter, Ella Celeste Adrian (Reid's daughter), was very important to her. Her advanced age limited her in the things that she could do with Ella but she was as involved as she could be when Ella would come to visit.&nbsp; Shug's special symbol was a rainbow so Ella would always have a drawing or a painting of a rainbow for her!

Florence took very good care of herself, never indulging in smoking or alcohol and including lots of healthy activities; exercising with Jack LaLanne when it was on TV and walking everyday either for pleasure or necessity. She did not drive until the girls were out of high school. She rarely had need of medication and nutrition was very important to her. However, during her last days, she wanted pie and ice cream every day, and she got it!

Florence was constantly reaching out to family, friends and neighbors in need of help. She would check on elderly in the neighborhood. She wrote notes and Christmas cards for her Aunt Helen when her aunt was unable to have a steady hand. She was always taking some good food to someone who would appreciate it.&nbsp; Florence and her sister Mazie provided round the clock care for their mother for several years before she passed on.

Florence made very good use of her 98 years here on Earth and will be greatly missed. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Ryan Mortuary, Salina, KS.&nbsp; Her body has been cremated and the ashes will be buried next to her husband, Tom, in Roselawn Memorial Park, Salina, KS. at a later date when the family gathers.

 Florence LaVaughn (Moore) McRae 

Myra Steel (Duthie) Grabon, 82 of Salina, passed away Wednesday, July 5th, 2023.

Myra was the first child of Robert Duthie and Ann Jamieson (Scouller) Duthie born on April 1st, 1941, in Forfar, Scotland. She grew up in the small community with her younger sister Katreena and brother Howard.

Myra attended local schools while growing up, and later studied to be, and became, a Registered Nurse in Scotland.

While working as a nurse in the hospital on a Naval base in Scotland, Myra met her future husband, George Grabon, who was stationed there. Myra eventually married George on June 26, 1971, in Dundee, Scotland. After getting married, Myra moved from Scotland, to Jamaica, Queens, New York City, with George, and soon began working at Mary Immaculate Hospital as a ward nurse.

On December, 9th, 1976, Myra gave birth to her only child, a son Andrew. She left full-time nursing to be a stay-at-home mother. She later became a traveling Hospice Nurse on Long Island when Andrew entered high school, working as such until she retired in the mid-2000's. In the early 2010's Myra and George moved to Kansas to be closer to their son and his family.

Myra enjoyed singing and listening to music, watching birds, looking at flowers, watching classic films, and reading. She was saved in her childhood and always stayed close to the Lord throughout her life. She had a close bond with her sister and brother, and enjoyed chatting with them over the phone when able, along with other friends and family in Scotland.

Myra was preceded in death by her parents: Robert and Ann, husband; George, as well as her younger brother; Howard.

Myra is survived by her son; Andrew and his wife Susan Grabon of Beloit, one grandson; Evan Grabon and her younger sister: Katreena of the United Kingdom.

Myra will be laid to rest alongside her husband George at the Veteran’s Cemetery at Fort Riley, 5181 Wildcat Creek Rd, Manhattan, KS.

 </figure>Myra Steel (Duthie) Grabon, 82 of Salina, passed away Wednesday, July 5th, 2023.Myra was the first child of Robert Duthie and Ann Jamieson (Scouller) Duthie born on April 1st, 1941, in Forfar, Scotland. She grew up in the small community with her younger sister Katreena and brother Howard.Myra attended local schools while growing up, and later studied to be, and became, a Registered Nurse in Scotland.While working as a nurse in the hospital on a Naval base in Scotland, Myra met her future husband, George Grabon, who was stationed there. Myra eventually married George on June 26, 1971, in Dundee, Scotland. After getting married, Myra moved from Scotland, to Jamaica, Queens, New York City, with George, and soon began working at Mary Immaculate Hospital as a ward nurse.On December, 9th, 1976, Myra gave birth to her only child, a son Andrew. She left full-time nursing to be a stay-at-home mother. She later became a traveling Hospice Nurse on Long Island when Andrew entered high school, working as such until she retired in the mid-2000's. In the early 2010's Myra and George moved to Kansas to be closer to their son and his family.Myra enjoyed singing and listening to music, watching birds, looking at flowers, watching classic films, and reading. She was saved in her childhood and always stayed close to the Lord throughout her life. She had a close bond with her sister and brother, and enjoyed chatting with them over the phone when able, along with other friends and family in Scotland.Myra was preceded in death by her parents: Robert and Ann, husband; George, as well as her younger brother; Howard.Myra is survived by her son; Andrew and his wife Susan Grabon of Beloit, one grandson; Evan Grabon and her younger sister: Katreena of the United Kingdom.Myra will be laid to rest alongside her husband George at the Veteran’s Cemetery at Fort Riley, 5181 Wildcat Creek Rd, Manhattan, KS.Memorial donations can be made to Hospice of Salina https://hospiceofsalina.org/donations/Arrangements have been entrusted to Roselawn Burial and Cremation Services. Robert Allen Grizzle, 65, of Eudora, Kansas, passed away Monday, July 3,&nbsp;2023,&nbsp;at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, Kansas.

Robert was born November 2,&nbsp;1957,&nbsp;in&nbsp;Enid, Oklahoma. &nbsp;He was the son of Leon&nbsp;and&nbsp;Ernestine (Butler) Grizzle.&nbsp;The Grizzle family moved to Russell, Kansas when Robert was young. &nbsp;He grew up and attended schools in Russell.

Robert was united in marriage to Dorothy Sauders on March 5,&nbsp;1994,&nbsp;in Clearview&nbsp;City, Kansas.&nbsp;Robert was&nbsp;blessed with&nbsp;five&nbsp;children:&nbsp;Kevin, Carrie,&nbsp;Jamie,&nbsp;Rachel&nbsp;and Alan.

Robert was an independent Drywaller. &nbsp;He worked in construction most of his life. &nbsp;While living in Eudora he worked for the Eudora High School as a Janitor. &nbsp;He attended the Cornerstone Church and was active in&nbsp;the church’s youth programs. &nbsp;When&nbsp;he was&nbsp;younger,&nbsp;he served in the&nbsp;National Guard. &nbsp;He was a car&nbsp;enthusiast. &nbsp;Anything about cars he was interested in. &nbsp;Family was important and he enjoyed the times with his children and grandchildren.

Robert’s surviving&nbsp;family include his wife of 29 years, Dorothy of the home;&nbsp;daughters, Jamie Jones of Eudora, Kansas and Rachel Grizzle of Eudora, Kansas; sons, Kevin Grizzle (Brittinei) of&nbsp;Galena, Missouri and&nbsp;Alan Rhea of Colorado&nbsp;Springs, Colorado; brothers, Phillip Grizzle (Kim) of Russell, Kansas and Richard Grizzle of Hays, Kansas; sisters, Patricia Dillon of Russell, Kansas and&nbsp;Theresa&nbsp;Ehrlich (Ron) of Ellis, Kansas; four&nbsp;grandchildren, Adisyn Grizzle, Landon Lee, Asher Grizzle and&nbsp;Brynna Rhea.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents&nbsp;and daughter Carrie Grizzle.

Celebration of Robert’s Life will&nbsp;be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, July 13,&nbsp;2023,&nbsp;at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary. &nbsp;Burial of Ashes will follow at the Russell City Cemetery. &nbsp;The&nbsp;family will be present to greet friends from 9:30 AM to&nbsp;service&nbsp;time, Thursday morning at the mortuary. &nbsp;Condolences&nbsp;may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.

Mah’laiyah Jane Crosby, infant baby girl, went to heaven on July 2, 2023 at the North Central Kansas Medical Center in Concordia, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was born on February 13, 2023 in Salina, Kansas to her mother Sydney Marie Crosby-Nelson.

Mah’laiyah is survived by her mother, Sydney Crosby-Nelson, a brother, Pierre Crosby and god mother, Raeisha Owens.

Visitation will be held from 1-5 Wednesday, July 12, 20232 at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home for family and close friends.

Melody A. Gillan, age 68, entered into rest on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at the North Central Kansas Medical Center, Concordia, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born July 14, 1954 in Gary, Indiana to Chester and Barbara (Thompson) Suroweic.

Melody was a 1972 graduate of Artesia High&nbsp;School, Artesia, California. She was a past member of the Elks Lodge, SOTF and L/ROC

She married Mark Gillan on June 8, 1991 in El Dorado, Kansas.&nbsp; They have lived in El Dorado, KS, Ocean Springs, Ms and later moved back to Mark’s hometown in Concordia, KS.

Melody&nbsp;had a zest for life that was infectious. She possessed an unwavering spirit of adventure and embraced new experiences with enthusiasm. She loved decorating her homes with her unique flare as well as sewing, fishing, gardening, and being outdoors, especially at a beach.

Family was paramount to Melody. She was a loving wife and parent and cherished every moment spent with her loved ones. She provided unwavering support, guidance, and unconditional love, and her presence will forever be cherished in the hearts of her family.

Melody had a heart full of compassion and a generous nature. She made a positive impact on the lives of many through her acts of kindness.

Melody&nbsp;leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and inspiration. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, children, grandchildren, siblings, and extended family members. She also leaves behind a host of close friends who will forever treasure the memories shared together.

Melody is survived by her husband, Mark Gillan, Concordia, KS; 2 sons, Jason, Troxell, (Julie) of Corpus Christi, TX; Ryan Troxell, El Dorado, KS; 3 daughters, Alyssa Stewart (Ray) Ocean Springs, MS; Jessica Hood (Tom), Manhattan, KS; Lesly Barger (Cameron) Wichita, KS; 3 brothers, Chuck Suroweic (Debbie), Dayton, OH; Jeff Suroweic (Jerri), Oceanside, CA; Walter Suroweic (Danielle), Covina, CA; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

Madeline M. Wright, age 100, entered into rest on Sunday, July 2, 2023 in Lincoln, Missouri surrounded by her family.&nbsp; She was born on November 3, 1922 in Clyde, Kansas to Edward and Bernadette (Roy) Sicard.

Madeline was united in marriage to Joseph Ted Wright on September 24, 1942 in Kingman, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;He preceded her in death on September 3, 1997.

Madeline was a hard worker all her life, she was as a waitress, and was a farm wife.&nbsp;&nbsp;She worked for Larry Lagasse Auctioneering and was famous for her fried chicken.&nbsp;&nbsp;Madeline also enjoyed raising chickens on the farm.

Madeline was baptized into the Catholic Faith.

She was a 50 year member of the American Legion Women’s Aux and Lifetime member of V.F.W. women’s Aux. both in Concordia.

She is survived by her son, Larry Wright (Donna), Lincoln, MO; Step-grandchildren, Terri Burt and Shannon Breese; step great grandchildren, Jackson Adair &amp; Avery Watkins &amp; step great great grandson, Oakley Adair.

She was preceded by her husband, Ted, her parents, sister, Adeline “Dort” Willoughby &amp; brothers, Hector “Junior”, Donald “Snowball”, Elmer &amp; Norman Sicard.

Visitation will be held Monday, July 10, 2023 from 1-8 pm with the family greeting friends from 6-8 pm at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at 10:00 am at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, Kansas.
