Carolyn Kay Kandt
October 30, 1941 ~ January 22, 2024
Kay’s life began on October 30, 1941, in Wichita, Kansas. She was the daughter of Paul J. and Mabel G. (Ford) Massey. Kay grew up in Wichita and graduated from Wichita West High School in 1960.
She was united in marriage to Lawrence H. Kandt on May 27, 1961, in Derby, Kansas. They met while roller skating in Wichita. The couple moved to the Herington area later that year. Kay worked for the Lutheran Home for a few years before starting a 31-year career at Herington Hospital as a radiology technician. Kay was also a hard-working farm wife and mother. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lyons Creek and active in the lady’s aide. Kay loved her animals, crocheting, embroidering, and taking care of her family.
She is survived by her children Larry (Cody) Kandt of Morganville, KS, Debbie (Jr.) Charest of Clay Center and Steve Kandt of Wakefield; grandchildren Jessica (Brian) Porter, Jenni Rogers, Chelsea ( Cory) Wiltz, Alecia Tate, Brad (Amber) Charest, Chad (Tracey) Charest, Braiton Gassman, Brogan Kandt and Brecken Kandt; great grandchildren Taylir, Nicole, Devynn, Wesley, Brooklyn, Bailey, Cole, Emery, Rylan, Braylee Jo, Tripp and Alena; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Kay passed away on Monday, January 22, 2024, at Wakefield Nursing and Rehab. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Patricia Maddox, and Shirley Coleman; brother in laws Vernon Kandt, and Edwin Kandt, sister in laws Ada Hawkinson and Rosetta Bura and nephew Dennis Ryff.
Her family will gather with friends on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Herington. Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lyons Creek. She will be laid to rest in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.
