Paul Douglas Coover
October 26, 1969 ~ January 16, 2024
Paul Douglas Coover, 54, of Ottawa, Kansas passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at his home.
He was born October 26, 1969 in Forbes Air Force Base in Topeka, Kansas and was the son of Terry and Donna (Branson) Coover. He graduated from Eudora High School with the class of 1988.
Paul worked for Walmart for nearly 30 years as an Asset Protection Associate, most recently in Gardner, Kansas. Paul was a man of many talents and showcased it over many years. He often worked multiple professions at the same time. He was a CNA, EMT, Maintenance tech and Greenwood County Deputy Jailor. Needless to say, he was a hard working father, son, and friend. Paul had a passion for volunteering. He was a volunteer firefighter in Eudora Township and Franklin County Township. He volunteered every year with Harvester and The Special Olympics.
Paul loved the outdoors and spending time around the campfire. He especially loved fishing, and could often be found with muddy boots from fishing and you would never find him without his fishing rods and tackle boxes nearby. He also enjoyed camping and traveling across the country in various places like Maine, Washington, Arizona, and Montana. His favorite trip was across the Atlantic Ocean to Ireland, he enjoyed the culture and the new experiences that it would bring.
Most of all, Paul enjoyed every chance he could get to spend time with his grandchildren. Paul had many grandchildren and was referred to as ‘Papa Bear’ to many of them. If you knew Paul, he had a grand stature, especially next to the grand babies.
He is survived by his parents, Terry and Donna Coover of Scipio, KS; a daughter, Jennifer Hendricks of Overland Park, KS; a son, Christopher Coover of Columbus, MS; two brothers, Brian Coover of Topeka, KS, and Jason Coover of Weatherford, TX; and 8 grandchildren, Addison, Brodey, Paisley, Cameron, Annabella, Valerie, Hayleigh, Carter and one more on the way.
