David E. Barton, Jr. April 19, 1970 ~ November 15, 2023

David E. Barton, Jr., age 53, of Ottawa, KS, passed away November 15, 2023, at University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, KS.

David was born April 19, 1970, in Atchison, KS, the son of David Eugene Barton, Sr. and Lillie (Kline) Barton. David graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1988.&nbsp;

David recently worked for Domino’s Pizza, Ottawa, KS and American Eagle Focus workforce.&nbsp; Previously he worked for seven years at McDonald’s in Ottawa and ten years at Wal-Mart in Ottawa.

David never knew a stranger he was always kind and quick to help anyone in need.&nbsp; He had no enemies.&nbsp; He was a drummer for various bands for thirty-seven years and loved his drums.&nbsp;&nbsp; Was an avid Kansas City, Chiefs fan and also enjoyed K.U. sports.&nbsp; David loved his jobs and always made his co-workers smile but most important to David was his beloved wife, Shelly. He loved her dearly and it was obvious to everyone of their family and friends how special she was to David.

On May 29, 2009, David was united in marriage to Shelly Hulcy in Ottawa, KS.&nbsp;They shared fourteen years of marriage.

David is survived by his wife, Shelly Barton, Ottawa; his mother, Lillie Barton, Ottawa, Ks; &nbsp;three step children, William Hulcy, Garnett, Ks, LeeAnn Lines, Texas, Spencer Hulcy and his wife, Cheyenne, Garnett, KS; three brothers, John Barton and his wife, Renee, Wellsville, KS, Mike Markgraf and Tiffany, Texas, Matthew Markgraf, Texas; and ten grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his father David Eugene Barton, Sr.

Daryl J. Makowski October 27, 1963 ~ November 14, 2023

Daryl Jo Makowski, 60, of Carbondale, Kansas, peacefully left this earth to go fishing in Heaven on November 14, 2023. He was surrounded by family and friends during his last days. Daryl fought a long and courageous battle with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease for many years.&nbsp;

Daryl was born in Chicago, Illinois on October 27, 1963, to Stan and Jean Makowski, who preceded him in death. He grew up in Chicago and his family moved to Crystal Lake, Illinois after his 4th grade year. This is where he developed his love for animals, being outside and family. He graduated from Central High School in Crystal Lake in 1981.

Daryl leaves behind the love of his life, Beckie, who he met in 1991, after he relocated to Carbondale, Kansas. They married on October 26, 1993, the day between their birthdays. He claimed he could never forget their anniversary that way. They were blessed with 30 years of marriage, two beautiful children, Jacob and Morgan (Michael), and a beloved grandson, Landon, all of whom miss him dearly.&nbsp; One of his greatest joys was playing with and reading to them as children and spending time with them as adults. He was the best dad!

The youngest of six, Daryl was preceded in death by his oldest two brothers, Carl and Jim. He was also preceded in death by a special nephew John. He is survived by his two brothers Doug and Wayne, his sister Pam, and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

For 25 years, Daryl worked at Kansas Association of School Boards as a printer and then most recently as a building manager. He took great pride in publishing the work sent to him. He enjoyed taking care of others and being the man behind the scenes. His colleagues would often describe him as kind, helpful and friendly.&nbsp;

When he wasn’t at work, Daryl filled his spare time with fishing, hunting and piddling in the garage. He also loved planting flowers and taking care of the little pond in his flowerbed. Daryl was quite the jokester and played pranks on others. He had the uncanny ability to remember all the jokes he told. In recent years, he cherished the time he spent with his wife at Grace Point Church.

Always a magnet for babies and animals, Daryl was a soft-hearted dog lover all his life.&nbsp; Throughout the years, he shared his heart with many dogs and a few pesky cats. His beloved canine companion, Izzy, passed in August.&nbsp; We imagine Heaven is a little louder with the sweet reunion of them all.&nbsp;

A memorial service for Daryl will be held on Tuesday, November 28, at 4 p.m. at Grace Point Church, 5400 SW Huntoon Street, Topeka, Kansas.&nbsp; Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, 712 9th Street, Baldwin City, Kansas, is in charge of the arrangements.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations and contributions be made to Morningstar Care Homes of Baldwin City. The staff made the last year of Daryl’s life loving, comfortable, dignified, and supported our family equally as well.&nbsp;

Ayako "Betty" Jensen December 4, 1929 ~ November 16, 2023

Ayako “Betty” Jensen, 93, passed away Thursday, November 16, 2023, in Lincoln, KS. She was born December 4, 1929 in Nagoya, Japan to Kumajiro (Tachi) Takada and Shizu Takada. She had five siblings, Mitsuji, Masao, Fumio, Kazue, and Teruko. While working as a telephone operator in Nagoya, Betty met her husband John Jensen. They were married there on February 16, 1951. In 1951, they returned to Lincoln, John’s hometown. Betty spent the rest of her life in Lincoln cleaning the motel and homes in the community for a while. She was later offered a job as a grocery store clerk at the local IGA. Later in life, she helped her son, Jerry, at Jensen Oil service station.

Betty is survived by her son David Jensen of Lincoln; daughters, Rose Gourley of Lincoln and Susan Turpin (Randal Loder) of Scott City, KS; grandchildren, Troy Gourley (Kara), Toni Jensen (Merle Tippy), Scott Jensen, Tami Zimmerman (Matt), Sara Kuhl (Stephen), Todd Jensen (Kendra), and Brett Jensen (Sandra); and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John; and son Jerry Jensen.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, November 20, 2023, at Hall Chapel funeral home in Lincoln.

A memorial service will take place at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at Hall Chapel with Pastor Kaye Metzler officiating.

Glenda Irene (Cooper) Spohn June 22, 1945 ~ November 15, 2023

Glenda “Jill” Irene Cooper Spohn, passed away on November 15, 2023, at the age of 78 in Abilene, Kansas.

She was born on June 22, 1945, in Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of Glenn and Dorcas Evans Cooper. The oldest of four, Jill, was active in Campfire Girls and St. James Episcopal Church in Wichita, Kansas. She graduated from Southeast High in 1963 and continued her education at Emporia State University.

While attending ESU, Jill met Jerold Spohn and the two married on December 20, 1965. They had a strong marriage of 57 years and were a positive example of upholding marriage vows. One of their favorite things to do was to pick out anniversary cards for one another each year. After a few years of marriage, the couple settled in White City, Kansas, where they grew their family and raised 6 children - 3 boys and 3 girls. They moved to the house on Garfield Street in 1982 and lived there for the next 36 years.

Jill worked as the secretary of White City Schools for a number of years before staying home to raise her children. In 1992, Jill graduated from Emporia State University with a degree in secondary education in history. It was important to her to finish what she had started and demonstrate perseverance and sacrifice as she completed her degree. Her last place of employment before retirement was with Central National Bank in Junction City.

Jill’s children were her pride and joy, and she could always be counted on to be in attendance at any of their sporting events, 4-H activities, or church functions. In her free time, Jill enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, and reading. She could be found nearly every Saturday at the local library. Jill regularly participated in an EHU group for women, served on various church committees, and was a very active member of local and county 4-H boards throughout the years the family resided in White City.

When grandchildren began to come along, Jill was delighted. She was known to send cards full of stickers to them and always had a new toy to play with when they would visit. Some of the most meaningful days to Jill were the days her entire family would gather together for a family reunion in the summer or at the holidays in December.

In 2019, Jerry and Jill moved to the Chapman/Abilene area. During these last few years, Jill’s family watched as Alzheimer’s invaded her mind, and she slowly lost her ability to remember all things. Though she grew incapable of remembering, those who love her the most will remember her for how supportive, devoted, and loving she was as a wife, mother, and grandmother.

Jill is survived by her loving husband, Jerold Spohn, and her children, Jerold Spohn Jr. (Reva), Bryon Spohn, Michael Spohn (Erin), Barbara Boggs (Matt), Jennifer Hickman (Daniel), and Susan Monnier (Mark). She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Jill was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Dorcas Cooper, and her sister, Jeanne Hoffman.

A private graveside memorial service will be held at a later date. Following the service, a reception will be held at the White City Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.

Glenda Spohn

Jerry Weber Volkman February 12, 1940 ~ November 18, 2023

Jerry’s life began on February 12, 1940, in Herington. He is the son of Wesley W. and Josephine (Koepke) Volkman. Jerry is a 1958 graduate of Herington High School. 

He served his country in the United States Air Force by enlisting in 1959 and, following basic training spent a year on station in Libya and a year in Turkey. 

When Jerry returned stateside, he was stationed at Andrews Air Force Base in Washington, D.C. until his honorable discharge in October of 1963. 

Jerry was united in marriage to the former Sharon Kay Gunter on October 20, 1962, at the Woodbine United Methodist Church. He returned to railroading in 1963 in Wichita and in 1964, he and Sharon relocated to Woodbine to open a grocery store they operated for eight years. 

Jerry continued to railroad out of Herington until his retirement in 1993. He and Sharon also raised cattle for many years. Family and serving the community were at the center of Jerry’s life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking. Jerry extended those passions to others by teaching Kansas Hunter Safety courses in Woodbine, Herington, and Caldwell. 

He was a 4-H project leader and instructor for Women of the Outdoors. Jerry became a Woodbine City Council member in 1964, retaining that position for 57 years until his resignation in 2021. 

Jerry joined the Woodbine Lion’s Club in 1964 and received the International Melvin Jones Fellowship Award in 2021 for his long-time membership and service. He was a member of the Herington Hospital Foundation until December of 2021. Jerry was a member of the Liberty-Woodbine Fire Department, Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees (NARVRE) and the American Legion. 

He also served on many committees and held offices at the Woodbine United Methodist Church. Jerry is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sharon Volkman of Woodbine; his faithful companion Rusty; sons Erich (Chantel) Volkman of Spring Hill, KS, Darrin (Robin) Volkman of Hope, KS, and Chad (Stacy) Volkman of Abilene; grandchildren Caleb Volkman, Marissa Volkman, Justin Volkman, Kyanna Volkman, Slade (Courtney) Volkman and Rylie (Tanner Sanders) Volkman.&nbsp; 

Jerry passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Memorial Hospital in Abilene. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Darrel Volkman.  </figure>Jerry Weber Volkman February 12, 1940 ~ November 18, 2023Jerry’s life began on February 12, 1940, in Herington. He is the son of Wesley W. and Josephine (Koepke) Volkman. Jerry is a 1958 graduate of Herington High School. He served his country in the United States Air Force by enlisting in 1959 and, following basic training spent a year on station in Libya and a year in Turkey. When Jerry returned stateside, he was stationed at Andrews Air Force Base in Washington, D.C. until his honorable discharge in October of 1963. Jerry was united in marriage to the former Sharon Kay Gunter on October 20, 1962, at the Woodbine United Methodist Church. He returned to railroading in 1963 in Wichita and in 1964, he and Sharon relocated to Woodbine to open a grocery store they operated for eight years. Jerry continued to railroad out of Herington until his retirement in 1993. He and Sharon also raised cattle for many years. Family and serving the community were at the center of Jerry’s life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking. Jerry extended those passions to others by teaching Kansas Hunter Safety courses in Woodbine, Herington, and Caldwell. He was a 4-H project leader and instructor for Women of the Outdoors. Jerry became a Woodbine City Council member in 1964, retaining that position for 57 years until his resignation in 2021. Jerry joined the Woodbine Lion’s Club in 1964 and received the International Melvin Jones Fellowship Award in 2021 for his long-time membership and service. He was a member of the Herington Hospital Foundation until December of 2021. Jerry was a member of the Liberty-Woodbine Fire Department, Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees (NARVRE) and the American Legion. He also served on many committees and held offices at the Woodbine United Methodist Church. Jerry is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sharon Volkman of Woodbine; his faithful companion Rusty; sons Erich (Chantel) Volkman of Spring Hill, KS, Darrin (Robin) Volkman of Hope, KS, and Chad (Stacy) Volkman of Abilene; grandchildren Caleb Volkman, Marissa Volkman, Justin Volkman, Kyanna Volkman, Slade (Courtney) Volkman and Rylie (Tanner Sanders) Volkman.&nbsp; Jerry passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Memorial Hospital in Abilene. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Darrel Volkman. Dale Ray Johnson July 5, 1938 ~ November 16, 2023

Dale Ray Johnson was born on July 5, 1938, to Harold and Mildred (Osbun) Johnston. He spent his school years going to Marion Schools, graduating with the Class of 1957. During High School, Dale joined the Army National Guard. After graduating, Dale joined the Army. One of his highlights was serving in Alaska when it became a state. After discharge, he moved to Anthony, KS, where he met Betty Wiens. They were married on September 05, 1964, in Wichita.&nbsp; Their son Troy was born in Anthony in 1965.

The family moved to Caldwell in 1966 after purchasing a Standard Oil filling station. Their daughter Danette was born in Caldwell in 1968.&nbsp; After selling the filling station, Dale delivered fuel to farms for Standard Oil.&nbsp; He purchased KanOkla Auto Supply and ran it for several years before working as a machinist&nbsp;in Wellington. In 1994, Dale and Betty moved to his hometown of Marion, KS where he became sexton at the Marion Cemetery. Dale was a volunteer fireman for 25 years in Caldwell and 10 years in Marion. NASCAR races was his every weekend enjoyment. K-State sports was also a passion. In his retirement, going to events of the grandchildren was what he liked to do.

Dale leaves behind his wife, Betty; son, Troy, and wife Lynnea; daughter, Dannette, and husband, William Jackson; grandchildren Aaron (Brooke), Danica (Jake), Cory, Sierra, and Bryson; great-grandchildren Landon, Daxton, Tessa, Audra, Gracylynn, Rose and Araya.&nbsp; He leaves behind two sisters Wanda (Dewayne) Waring and Barbara Craney.

Dale passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro. Leona Ruth Blodgett December 12, 1935 ~ November 20, 2023

Leona Ruth Blodgett passed away on November 20, 2023, at her home in Detroit. She was born December 12, 1935, in Enterprise the daughter of Arthur and Grace (Picking) Peterson. Leona married Omer Lee “Hank” Blodgett on November 21, 1960.

Leona is survived by two sisters, Mary Bever of Florida, Teena Krause of Hutchinson, her sons James (Rhonda) Blodgett of Wichita, Ronald (Kandra) Blodgett of College Station, Texas, seven grandchildren Chad Anderson of Salina, Erica (Freddie) Hurt of Junction City, Nicky (Mike) Harder of Salina, Heather (Brian) Slater of Salina, Monica Harder of Auburn, Christine Blodgett of Detroit, Michael Blodgett of College Station, Texas, twenty grandchildren and fifteen great-great-grandchildren.

Leona was preceded in death by her husband Omer, sons David Blodgett, Michael Blodgett, sisters Beverly Krisher, Connie Amburgey, and her parents.

Leona graduated from Enterprise High School. After high school, she moved to Denver and worked as a model for a while. She moved back to Kansas and started a career in finance with the civil service. This job took her from Salina to Austin, Texas and back to Salina. After Schilling Sir Force Base shut down, she transferred to Fort Riley. She was the Chief of Military Pay, Finance Department, when she retired after 30-plus years. After retirement, she began to travel and helping Omer in the moving business which took them all over the United States.

They built a house in Detroit and resided there from 1970 until she passed.

Before Leona started to travel, her favorite pastime was bowling. She was on several leagues and enjoyed traveling to tournaments around the country.

Leona always enjoyed a house full of family and friends (the more the merrier), she believed in an open-door policy. She liked spending her time watching her family in their activities.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 25, 2023, at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene. Her final resting place will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery near Enterprise. Family and friends are welcome to the visitation on Friday evening from 5 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Shirley Yvonne (Elliott) Hoppock October 28, 1928 ~ November 13, 2023

Shirley Yvonne (Elliott) Hoppock&nbsp;passed away November 13, 2023, at Presbyterian Manor in&nbsp; Salina, Kansas. Shirley was born October 28, 1928, in Sterling, Kansas, the daughter of Mark and Elsie Elliott.

Preceding her in death was her husband of 64 years, Glenn Hoppock; her parents, Mark and Elsie Elliott; sisters, Erma Ringer, Bernese Taylor, Wilma Gossard, Evelyn Davis and brother, Everett Elliott.

Survivors include her two sons; Michael (Polly) Hoppock of Salina, Douglas (Nancy) Hoppock of Overland Park; five grandchildren, Erin (Preston) McCorkle of Salina, Amy (Taylor) Hamilton of Overland Park, Austin (Lisa) Hoppock of Salina, Grant Hoppock of Overland Park and Caroline Hoppock of Overland Park; and five great grandchildren, Beckett, Greeley and Maizie McCorkle and London and Calvin Hamilton.

She worked five years for Page Milk Co., in Coffeyville, Kansas before traveling with her husband while serving in the Navy. They were stationed in Jacksonville, Florida, Memphis, Tennessee, Brunswick, Georgia and Corpus Christi, Texas. Following Glenn's discharge from the Navy they moved to Wichita, Kansas where they raised their sons. She was a long-time member of the Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church in Wichita, where she taught Sunday school for many years and was active in the women's group.

Shirley enjoyed her Red Hat groups, one in Wichita and one with her high school class of 1946, the Red Hatters of Altamont, Kansas. She was also active in Tops while living in Wichita. Without a doubt, Shirley's pride and joy were her two sons. She devoted her life to raising Mike and Doug into fine young men, and enjoyed watching them raise their own families. Shirley would count amongst her happiest times, the hours spent on the bleachers cheering on her boys, the meals she prepared for her family, and the moments when she shook her head at Mike and Doug's shenanigans.

A Memorial service will be held Friday November 24th 11:00 am at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, 5701 E. Mount Vernon St., Wichita, Kansas. Following the celebration of Shirley's life, a meal will be provided, as the family would like to meet and greet those who came to honor the life of Shirley.

The family would like to thank the staffs at Eaglecrest Senior Living and Presbyterian Manor of Salina for the love and care they have shown Shirley over the years.

LaVern Charles Robbins&nbsp;(84) passed away on November 20, 2023, at Republic County Hospital.

LaVern was born to Millard and Katharyn (Katie) Robbins on December 17, 1938 in Belleville. He served his country in the US Army during the cold war Berlin Crisis of 1958 and 59. He met the love of his life, Joyce Hedding at a harvest festival in Barnes, days before boarding a ship to Germany. They married after 5 dates when he was on leave months later.&nbsp;&nbsp;They enjoyed 60 years together before her passing in 2020.

LaVern was a loyal friend and dedicated employee. During his employment at West Plains Energy, he never missed a day of work in over 40 years.

LaVern was engaged in his community, serving two terms as a commissioner for Concordia from 1993-97 and serving as Mayor in 1993 and 1996. He stood with the families of deceased veterans as an Honor Guard at graveside services for many years.

LaVern was an outdoorsman and spent much of his spare time on the Republican River, Jamestown Lake and the Salt Creek watershed, hunting deer, pheasant, and bow fishing.

LaVern was a storyteller, turning many chance encounters into friendships during his lifetime.

LaVern was a Christian and a witness for Christ by the life he lived. He was a father to Kenneth (Ken) &amp; Carol, Lori &amp; Ron, David &amp; Mary, Michelle &amp; Thad; Grandfather to Larry, Paul, Lindsay, David, Larrissa, Travis, Clinton, Renee, Rachel, and Kiara. Great Grandfather to Airiona, Skyler, Lauren, Jenna, Duke, Jacob (Jake), and Bowie. Lavern was a father figure to many.

LaVern was preceded in death by his twin, LaVon May Svoboda of Lincoln Nebraska, sister Elda Roe of Belleville, Brother Dennis of Lenora and his parents.

LaVern’s family will host a visitation with friends at the Chaput-Bouy Funeral home in Concordia on Saturday, December 2, 2023 from 6-8 pm&nbsp;and a Graveside Service at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, south of Belleville on Sunday, December 3, 2023 at&nbsp;1pm.

Rosalie B. Divelbiss, 71, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2023. She was born December 21, 1951 in Salina, Ks to Melvin and Mary (Shelton) Divelbiss. Gloria Arlene (Slansky) Burger, 91, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, November 19, 2023, at Linden Woods Village in Kansas City, Missouri. The daughter of Thomas and Margaret Slansky, both deceased, Gloria was born on May 7, 1932, on a farm west of Stockton, Kansas.

While visiting her aunt, Bessie Shriver, Gloria met Leo Burger at a Bohemian Hall dance. They married on April 18, 1949, and lived on the family farm near Ada, Kansas until they relocated to Kansas City, Missouri in 2010 to be near family.&nbsp;

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Burger (2013), and four siblings, Betty Sell, Waunetta Shriver, Roy Slansky, and Gary Slansky. Remaining family members include a sister, Toya Kasiska of Hays, Kansas; two children and their spouses, Steve and Donna Burger of Lockesburg, Arkansas, and Luetta (Burger) and Jim Flournoy of Kansas City, Missouri; two grandchildren and their spouses, Steve Burger and Roneisa Matero of Ringold, Oklahoma, and Rebecca (Flournoy) and Matt Ainsworth of Columbia, Missouri; one great-granddaughter, Allison Burger of Hutchinson, Kansas; and a great-great-grandson, Izaak Burger of Hutchinson, Kansas. Extended family includes Brad and Lori Barnes and their family of Harrisonville, Missouri and several nephews and nieces and their families.&nbsp;

Funeral services were&nbsp;November 25, 2023, at the Antioch Baptist Church, Ada. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery.

Paul Ledgard, age 72, of Burlingame, KS, passed away November 14, 2023, at Stormont Vail Hospital, Topeka, KS.

Paul was born October 15, 1951, in McKeesport, PA, the son of Walter Ledgard and Anna Mae (Bilak) Criado. Paul grew up in the South suburban area of Pittsburgh, graduating from Elizabeth Forward High School with the class of 1969.&nbsp;

Paul worked for U.S. Steel in Pittsburgh in the late 1970’s eventually leaving to become a supervisor for Popeye’s Fried Chicken in New Orleans, LA.&nbsp; In 1991, he moved to St. Louis, MO and was District Manager for Steak n Shake.&nbsp; In 2006, Paul purchased Heartland Steak n Shake and owned and operated the Topeka area and beyond Steak n Shakes.

Paul was a wonderful business leader and entrepreneur.&nbsp; He was a mentor to many of his employees and was admired by everyone who worked with him.&nbsp; His professional life was very time-consuming but when he had time, he loved traveling with his family.&nbsp; He was able to visit many places in the world including Africa, Japan, Australia, Italy, Germany, and Hawaii to name a few.&nbsp; Those trips were very rewarding and pleasing to Paul especially sharing those moments with his family that he worked so hard to support.&nbsp; He was also an avid football fan never missing a chance to cheer on his hometown Pittsburgh Steelers or the Kansas City Chiefs.&nbsp; He also loved NASCAR, especially Jeff Gordon.&nbsp; Many people in Burlingame also know he loved classic cars.&nbsp; His maroon 1949 Chevy pick-up was a favorite.

On February 23, 1991, Paul was united in marriage to Cindy Stevener in Wentzville, MO.&nbsp;They celebrated their thirty-two year of loving marriage.

Paul is survived by his wife, Cindy Ledgard of the home; daughter, Alyson Collins and her husband, Erich, Elizabeth, PA; son, Paul Ledgard, Jr. and his wife, Becca, Gardner, KS; step-son, Tyson Stevener and his wife, Carrie, New Melle, MO; three brothers, Jim Ledgard and his wife, Jean, Irwin, PA, Dan Ledgard and his wife, Cindy, Denver, NC, David Ledgard and his wife, Amy, Elizabeth, PA; half-brother, Ron Ledgard, Green, OH; and five grandchildren, Tressa Knight, Ryder Collins, Lucas Ledgard, Hayden Stevener, and Bennett Stevener.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter Ledgard and Anna Mae Criado; his step-father, Alfonso Criado and a sister, Sandy Adams.

Neil Thad Satterlee May 10, 1940 ~ November 13, 2023

Neil Thad Satterlee, age 83, of Ottawa, KS, passed away on November 13, 2023, at his home.

Neil was born May 10, 1940, in Salina, KS, the son of Thaddeus Satterlee and Mildred (Mihm) Satterlee. Neil graduated from Assaria High School, Assaria, KS with the class of 1958.&nbsp;During high school, he played basketball and baseball.&nbsp;He then went on to Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics in 1965.&nbsp;Neil moved to Ottawa, KS in 1966, where he has lived ever since.&nbsp;

Neil worked for the Federal Land Bank as an assistant manager and worked his way to Vice President until 1980. He worked for FDIC, was an agent for Shelter Insurance, and, in later years, worked at Baker University and the City of Ottawa before retiring in 2005.

Neil was happiest in the outdoors.&nbsp;He enjoyed caring for his yard and gardening over the years.&nbsp;He mowed yards to keep busy during retirement. He enjoyed being out hunting and fishing and was just happy to enjoy God’s creation.&nbsp;&nbsp;In his youth, Neil was active in 4-H and enjoyed showing hogs at Saline County fairs. He showed his horse in the American Royal.&nbsp;He was also an avid K-State fan and cheered the Wildcats on to victory for many years.&nbsp;Neil was a kind man and always happy to strike up a conversation with someone.&nbsp;

Neil was a charter member and elder of Grace Community Fellowship.&nbsp;

On August 6, 1967, Neil was united in marriage to Rita Hollinger at Trinity United Methodist Church in Ottawa, KS.&nbsp;This past August they celebrated their fifty-sixth year of loving marriage.

Neil is survived by his wife, Rita Satterlee of the home; daughter, Janet Seelhoff and her husband, Mike, Omaha, NE; son, Brent Satterlee, Overland Park, KS; grandson, Benjamin Seelhoff, Omaha, NE; three sisters, Mary Poage and her husband, Bruce, Topeka, KS; Thadene Conard and her husband, Elvin, Halstead, KS; and Jane Apter, Topeka, KS; several nephews, great nieces and great nephews, a great-great nephew and many cousins.

Mathew A. Ell November 4, 1945 ~ November 16, 2023

Mathew Alfred Ell, 78, of Glasco, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at North Central Kansas Medical Center in Concordia, Kansas, after a life spent making others laugh and feel loved.&nbsp;

Mathew was born November 4, 1945, to Jacob and Mary (Mathern) Ell in Linton, ND. He graduated from St. Mary’s Central High School in Bismarck, North Dakota. &nbsp;After graduation he attended the University of Mary, served in the North Dakota Army Reserves and the Montana Air National Guard.

Mathew never met a stranger and was a born salesman. &nbsp;At age seven, he was selling flower seeds, and as soon as he could ride a bike in grammar school, he single-handedly increased the circulation of the Grit magazine. &nbsp;Mathew proceeded to sell everything from real estate to automobiles, going on to head a sales force selling waterless cookware and fine china and working as a Petroleum Landman until retirement. His careers included something he loved and enjoyed all of his life - traveling. &nbsp;There were few roads Mathew did not travel. &nbsp;From North Dakota to Oregon, Georgia to Arkansas, Idaho, Kansas and every state in between, he traveled more miles than most people might in three lifetimes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Pauline Ward and brother Leo Ell. &nbsp;He is survived by his wife Pam Hyde, his sisters Helen Jacob and Rose (Del) Jose, his children Jarame Ell, Jami (Scott) Cureton, and Suzanna (Forrest) Smith, their mother Sharilee Payne, his grandchildren Gabe (Violet) Cureton, Archer Cureton, Caleb Ell, Jonah Ell, Zoe Smith, Orion Smith and many loved nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Mathew lived life fully, creating memories which he told with flair, often leaving the listener in tears from laughter. &nbsp;He truly loved, and was greatly loved in return.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Miltonvale, Kansas, at 10:00 a.m. on November 18th, 2023, with burial immediately following in Glasco Cemetery.&nbsp; Rosary recitation will be at 9:30 a.m., Saturday morning at the church prior to the funeral mass.

Lois Fern Hendricks October 10, 1936 ~ November 12, 2023

Lois Fern Hendricks, 87, passed away Sunday, November 12, 2023, in Ellsworth, KS. She was born October 10, 1936, in Hutchinson, KS, to Glenn and Opal (Lamont) Avery. Lois married Darrel Morris in Kingman, KS, on March 26, 1955. Shortly after their union, Darrel passed serving in the Korean War. She later married Homer Frank Hendricks on November 5, 1956.

Lois worked as a dispatcher for the Ellsworth County Sheriff’s Office for many years. She was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi and Eastern Star and member of the Ellsworth Methodist Church and the Crown Lighters bowling league, serving as the secretary.

Lois is survived by her daughter Gale Soukup (Steven) of Ellsworth; grandsons, Andrew Soukup (Virginia) of Ellsworth and Daniel Soukup (Dani) of Ellsworth; great grandchildren, Lexi, Katelyn, Daxton, Davin, and Ayden; sister Glendolyn Van Etten of Satanta, KS; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Darrel Morris; and infant brother Glenn Edgar Avery, Jr.

Funeral service: 10 a.m., Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Ellsworth Methodist Church.

Burial service: 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson.

Donna Lee Longenecker, 91, passed away Saturday, November 11, 2023. She was a lifelong Dickinson County resident and an active member of her church. Donna was born August 31, 1932, in Tampa, Kansas, to Frank Haynes and Wauneita “Neita” Haynes.

Loved ones remaining are her children; daughters Raylene Smith, Perry, Kansas, and Vicki Sigman (Scott), Springfield, Missouri; sons Gale Longenecker (Barbara), Concordia, Kansas, Lyle Longenecker (Marcia), Abilene, Kansas, and Ron Longenecker, Centerton, Arkansas; 18 grandchildren and 57 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Jean Riffel, Yvonne Sexton, and Connie Williamson. She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother, 5 sisters, one son-in-law, and one granddaughter.

Family will receive friends Friday, November 17, 2023, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Danner Funeral Home, 501 N Buckeye, Abilene, Kansas. The funeral will be Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Abilene Bible Baptist Church, 409 N Van Buren St, Abilene, Kansas, with interment following at Union Cemetery, Abilene, Kansas.

Hal Stephens January 29, 1933 ~ November 9, 2023

Hal D. Stephens was born January 29, 1933, in Riley County, Kansas, the son of Percy and Pearl (Smith) Stephens. He passed away Thursday, November 9, 2023, at the Salina Regional Health Center in Salina.

Hal graduated from St. George High School and served in the United States Army. He worked for over 50 years at Jilka Furniture Store in Salina before retiring.

Hal enjoyed repairing grandfather clocks and furniture, collecting farm toys and farmed on the side.

On February 2, 1963, Hal was united in marriage to Helen “Sandy” Sanderson in Salina. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his son Marc of Solomon, daughter Jennifer Stephens and her companion Ron Billinger of Castle Rock, Colorado, and sister Mary Rubendall. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Arnold Stephens, Phillip Adolph, Orville Adolph, and his sister Vera Morgan.

Services for Hal will be Saturday, November 18, 2023 at the Solomon United Methodist Church in Solomon with Rebecca Stredney officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Solomon United Methodist Church or to the Salina Animal Shelter and may be sent in care of the Carlson-Becker Funeral Home, P.O. Box, Solomon, Kansas 67480.

Donna Jeanne Lancaster, 85, formerly of Salina, Kansas, passed away on November 13, 2023, in Overland Park, Kansas. Donna was born on December 28, 1937, in Formosa, Kansas, to Ken and Clara (Bechtold) Killen. She graduated from Courtland High School before attending Wichita Business College. It was in Wichita where she met the love of her life, Bob. They quickly fell in love and married on November 23, 1957. It was a love that would last the next 64 years. They had 5 children together, Stephanie, Kelli, Sharla, Brad, and Cheryl.

While Donna was dedicated to her job at Philips lighting for 25 years, her greatest joy in life was raising her 5 kids. She loved spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren. She took great pride in her family’s activities and accomplishments.

Donna was proceeded in death by her husband, Bob. She is survived by her sister, Shirley McGeoch, her daughter, Stephanie Green and partner Greg Knight; daughter, Kelli Fugate; daughter, Sharla Belluomo and son-in-law Mark Belluomo; son, Brad Lancaster and daughter-in-law Sarah Lancaster; daughter, Cheryl Ross and son-in-law John Ross; along with 12 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren, and her beloved dog, Martina.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, November 17, 2023, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 North 8th Street Salina, Kansas, 67401, with burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, Salina.

Emily Marie Eck, 32, unexpectedly left this earth Saturday evening, November 11, 2023.

Emily was the first born to Mel and Tina Eck on June 11, 1991. Emily is survived by her parents of Beloit, KS; companion, Patrick Ryan and son Maverick Ryan of Salina; siblings, sister Shelby Eck (Kyle, son Theo) of Salina and brother Chance Eck of Medora, ND; grandparents, Earl and Norma Waterman of Beloit and aunts, uncles, cousins and a mountain of friends.

Emily was a 2009 graduate of Beloit High School; studied business at Wichita State, and furthered her education online. Majors included pharmacy, paralegal and medical coder.&nbsp; She currently was employed at Central Care Cancer Center, Salina.

Emily was a bright and loving child. She loved to express herself through dance and playing the piano and clarinet. In her high school years she was a smart young lady that loved her friends near and far, enjoyed cheering on her team mascot and performing on the dance team. Even as a busy young lady she still loved her after school job at S &amp; S Drug.
