Maridene Esther Lundstrom December 22, 1929 ~ March 25, 2024

Maridene Esther Lundstrom, 94, of Lindsborg, passed away March 25, 2024. She was a long-time resident of Lindsborg. She was married to Robert Lee Lundstrom, a farmer, carpenter, WWII veteran, and active church member in Lindsborg where they raised 3 children. Bob passed away in 2012.

She was born on a farm SE of Stafford, KS. Daughter of Samuel Brent and Alma Alice (Langdon) Newell and sister to Carroll (Doris) Newell, Margaret (Bob) Humphrey, and Clinton Newell. Maridene attended Eureka Rural Grade School, Stafford HS, and Bethany College where she graduated in 1951, majoring in Music Education. She taught music at Lincoln Grade School in Goodland, KS one year after graduation.

In 1952 she married Arthur Hanson, also a graduate of Bethany College as well as the Theological Seminary at Rock Island, IL. During that time, Maridene taught in San Francisco for a year when Arthur was positioned there. They then lived in Wolverton and later Comstock, Minnesota from 1954 to 1957.Arthur served these communities as a Lutheran Pastor. During this time, Stephen (1955), David (1956), and Paul (1959) were born. Arthur was serving a rural church congregation in East Grand Forks, MN at the time of his death in April 1960.

Following his death, Maridene with her 3 children moved back to Lindsborg. Directly across the street was where her future husband, Bob Lundstrom lived. They married on June 16, 1962. Bob and his brother Lawrence farmed land near Fremont Lutheran Church west of Lindsborg. They remained in Lindsborg where their 3 sons attended high school and college.

For decades, Maridene taught piano lessons to multiple generations of students, many of whom competed at regional and state levels. Maridene and Bob were both very active in the congregation of Bethany Lutheran Church. She was a Sunday School teacher, children’s choir leader, sang in the church choir, and held many other roles as a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. She was a Soprano Secretary Chair for Lindsborg’s annual Messiah Festival and sang for over 50 years in Handel’s Messiah and Bach’s St. Matthew’s Passion.

Maridene always found great joy in serving and supporting others in Lindsborg and area communities. She was known for her unwavering spiritual faith and optimism, as well as listening to and comforting others in times of need through her roles in Stephen Ministries and Women of the ELCA. At Bethany Home she was part of the unofficial welcome committee for new residents and staff recently described her as very gifted in helping others feel cared for.

Maridene loved to cook for her community and family. Family members recall the festive Sunday and holiday dinners at home, her full course meals (often a hearty chicken dinner brought out to feed workers at harvest time or baling hay), her legendary cinnamon rolls, Swedish tea rings, pies, cookies, and more. She regularly asked to include a short time of scripture reading and prayer after main meals gathered with others.

Maridene is survived by her sons Stephen (Carol) Hanson, David (Lori) Hanson, and Paul (Robin) Hanson. She has 5 grandchildren: Sarah (John) Werner, Brent (Pam) Hanson, Destiny Hanson, Clara Hanson, and Addie Hanson. She has 8 great grandchildren: Isaiah, Malakai, Delani, Ben, Sam, Kate, James, and Luke, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

The visitation will be Friday, April 5th from 5-7 pm at Crick-Christians Funeral Home, 103 N Washington St. Lindsborg, KS 67456.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, April 6th, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 320 N Main St. Lindsborg, KS with Rev. Dr. Mandy Todd officiating. A burial will follow at Fremont Cemetery, west of Lindsborg. A reception at Bethany Lutheran Church will follow the burial.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Bethany Lutheran Church, Bethany College, and Bethany Home. Memorials may be sent in care of the funeral home.

Erma Baker Westblade January 26, 1929 ~ March 22, 2024

Erma Baker Westblade, 95, of Salina, KS, passed away Friday, March 22, 2024, at Pinnacle Park Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born January 26, 1929, in McClure, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Charles K. Baker and Lillie (Lepley) Baker. On August 14, 1965, she married Wayne Westblade at Fort Riley Kansas.

She received her Bachelors in Religious Studies from Lancaster Bible College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and afterward prepared for a career as a missionary where she was assigned as a religious advisor to Fort Riley Army dependents. After marrying Wayne, she embarked on many careers as a farmer, cook, caterer, and finally as a legal secretary in Wayne’s law firm while raising her children and spending countless hours volunteering for church and scouting organizations.

Erma was an avid DIYer before the term existed. She could build anything including laying her own concrete and building cabinets. She supported many causes and was a strong advocate of mission work her entire life.

In addition to Wayne, she is survived by two daughters, Miriam Holzmeister (Greg) of Gypsum, KS, and Rebecca Guthrie (Carl) of Noblesville, IN, three granddaughters, Rachel Byarlay (Aaron) of Colby, KS, Victoria Jones (Brady) of Gypsum, KS, and Morgan Guthrie of Noblesville, IN, two great granddaughters Annabelle Jones and Ariana Byarlay, and two sisters, Janet Baker of Lebanon, PA, and Hope Derr of Greenbackville, VA. as well as many nieces and nephews and brother and sisters in law.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth Baker, Gordon Baker, and Donald Baker and Marc Moreano, nephew.

Friends and family may call from 10 am - 11 am Tuesday, March 26 at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church, 304 W. Grand Ave. Salina, KS, with services following at Grand Avenue UMC.

Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Lindsborg, KS after a church luncheon.

Lowell Howard Delker December 30, 1948 ~ March 21, 2024

Lowell Howard Delker, a lifetime member of the Salina community, passed away on March 21, 2024, in Salina, Kansas. He was born on December 30, 1948, in Salina, Kansas, to his parents Lester Delker and Dorothy Delker. Lowell was preceded in death by his father Lester, his mother Dorothy, and his sister Deanna Feltes.

Lowell is survived by his loving children, Emily DeRocco and her husband, Steven, from Virginia and Matthew Delker and his wife, Candace, from Florida. He was blessed with nine grandchildren; Markus, Jason, Cade, Laramie, Liam, Elon, Dexter, Joss, and Laura. He is also survived by his siblings Dave Delker and wife Marge of Arizona and his sister, Carol Patterson and her husband Jim, of Oklahoma.&nbsp;

As a Vietnam Era Veteran, Lowell served his country with honor and dedication. He worked as a carpenter and handyman. He used his skills to help those in need and was always there for family.

One of Lowell's greatest passions was his love for American Indian history and artifacts. He would often be found walking through recently plowed fields, searching for treasures that history had left behind. His enthusiasm and dedication to preserving these artifacts were truly inspiring.

Above all, Lowell will be remembered for his kind and caring nature. He dedicated years of his life to taking care of his mother, Dorothy, until her passing in 2021. His selflessness and unwavering love for his family and community exemplified his character.&nbsp;

A Celebration of Life service in honor of Lowell will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 6:00 PM at Rosie’s on Iron at 125 E. Iron Ave. in Salina, Kansas. The memories and legacy of Lowell Howard Delker will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Donald "Jamie" James Ragan August 17, 1976 ~ March 26, 2024

Donald James “Jamie” Ragan, 47, of Salina, Kan., passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2024. He was born on August 17, 1976, in Salina to James and Carol (Stewart) Ragan.

Jamie loved to play golf and enjoyed woodworking. He worked for Worldwide Windows in Salina for 18 years before starting his own company, A &amp; R Windows and Door.

Survivors include his parents, Jim and Carol; daughters, Cheyenne, Ciera, and Destiny Ragan; granddaughter, Coraline; brothers, Michael Ragan (Becky) and Robert Perry; and sisters, Linda Phelps and Donna Eaves.

Cremation was chosen and a Celebration of Life service will be announced at a later date.

Phil Allen Winters October 25, 1957 ~ March 18, 2024

Phil Allen Winters, 66, passed away suddenly on Monday, March 18, 2024.&nbsp;Anyone who knew Phil knew that he was a loving father, grandfather, and son.&nbsp;He is survived by mother, Phyllis; daughter, Jamie; son-in-law, David; and granddaughter, Olivia. He is proceeded in death by father, John, and brother, Ray.

Phil was raised in in Salina, KS. He&nbsp;attended Central High School&nbsp;and&nbsp;Marymount College.&nbsp;Phil had many hobbies, including photography and carpentry – both of which he turned into careers. &nbsp;Phil worked&nbsp;at&nbsp;Holiday Mansion&nbsp;for many years&nbsp;running the cabinet shop. Together with Jolene, they ran a photography studio in the 1990’s where they would photograph families, weddings, and senior portraits.&nbsp;

He didn’t know a stranger. He talked to everyone he passed and made friends quickly.&nbsp;Phil&nbsp;had a love of photography, painting,&nbsp;and some good&nbsp;ol’ rock ‘n roll. Jamie knew whenever her dad arrived because the music would be blaring from his vehicle. No one was more determined, stubborn,&nbsp;proud,&nbsp;supportive,&nbsp;and loving than Phil. His passing leaves a huge void in the hearts of many.

No services will take place at this time; however, a small celebration of life will take place in the coming months with close family and friends.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Phil&nbsp;are&nbsp;made to the GoFundMe fundraiser to help the family with cremation costs and other expenses.

Janice L. "Jan" Doherty February 18, 1942 ~ March 25, 2024

Janice L. "Jan" Doherty, 82, died at her home early in the morning of March 25, 2024 shortly after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She was born Janice Louise Schreuder on February 18, 1942 to Lloyd and Lois Ruth (Browning) in Mitchell County, KS. Jan grew up in Cawker City, KS and graduated with the Cawker City High School class of 1960. She went on to attend Kansas State University and Clark’s&nbsp; School of Business in Topeka, KS. Her studies there led to a long career as a legal secretary, including time spent working with the Department of Justice in Topeka and later Denver, CO. After returning to Salina, she went to work for Kennedy, Berkley, Yarnevich, and Williamson, where she worked for 28 years until her retirement in 2007.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Peggy Ann Schlaefli, grandparents Peter and Tracie (Folger) Schreuder and Earl and Bertha (Orr) Browning, husbands Clifford M. Steck, Charles F. Wilkerson, and Wendall L. Doherty. Jan is survived by her sister Connie (Jim) Hocking, Brookville, nieces and nephews Kim (Mark) Viets, Gerard, Jennie Hocking, Texas, Bill Schlaefli, Cawker City, Pete (Sara) Hocking, Brookville, Susan (Tony) Elting, Hebron, NE, and Jillian (Kalyn) Hocking, Kalamazoo, MI. Also left with timeless memories of their Aunt Jan are her ten great nieces and nephews.

Honoring Jan’s request, she was cremated and there will be no services.

Jan is survived by her sister Connie (Jim) Hocking, Brookville, nieces and nephews Kim (Mark) Viets, Gerard, Jennie Hocking, Texas, Bill Schlaefli, Cawker City, Pete (Sara) Hocking, Brookville, Susan (Tony) Elting, Hebron, NE, and Jillian (Kalyn) Hocking, Kalamazoo, MI. Sammy Claire Sheppard, 80, of Salina, Kansas, went home to his heavenly father on March 20, 2024. He was born on September 12,1943 to Ray and May Sheppard in Ellsworth, Kansas.

Sam graduated from Tescott High School in 1961. He entered the Navy in 1962 where he served on the aircraft carrier, USS Oriskany. Following 4 years of service, he attended Kansas Wesleyan University and graduated in 1970. After graduation he worked at Jarrett Electric. Then in 1974, Sam co-founded KASA Industrial Controls where he worked in sales for 20 years. Following many years of hard work and building a successful business, he retired in 1995.

Sam is survived by his wife, Carol Sheppard; his children, Michelle Milhon (David), Bill Sheppard (Trina), and Melissa Clark (Steve); stepchildren, Jesse Lemuz, Michael Lemuz (Alisha), and Randy Lemuz; his brothers, Chuck Sheppard (Connie), Sid Sheppard (Karen); and sister, Kathy Razak (Stan); as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A Memorial Service for Sam will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Salina on Friday, April 5th at 11:00 a.m.

Louis L. Meredith November 16, 1941 ~ March 20, 2024

Louis L. Meredith, 82, of Salina, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at his home with his wife and beloved dog, Bella, by his side.&nbsp; He was fourth of five children, born on November 16, 1941, to Ronald and Doris Meredith, in Delphos, Kansas.

He graduated from Delphos High School in 1959, and joined the United States Air Force, shortly after graduation.&nbsp; His Air Force career of 26 years took him to Goose Bay, Labrador, United Kingdom, Okinawa, Germany, and Sardinia.&nbsp; During his military career, he had the opportunity to work on a Bob Hope USO show on Christmas Eve, 1961 at Goose Bay, Labrador, celebrated mass in St. Peters Basilica in Rome, Italy, was in a private audience with Pope Paul I, and met the president of the Soviet Union while working at McConnell AFB in Wichita.&nbsp; As a member of the Headquarters Strategic Air Command Inspector General team at Offutt AFB, Nebraska, he traveled extensively from Maine to Guam inspecting air bases for war readiness.

Upon his military retirement, he continued to work for the US Air Force as a civil service in June 2004.&nbsp; Louis graduated from Butler County Community College in 1991 with an associate degree in Liberal Arts.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 38 years, Marjorie; brother, Thomas Meredith; sister in law, Darlene Meredith; sisters, Marilyn Sechrist and Rowena Williams.

He is survived by his wife Amy, of the home; daughter Traci Sams (Matthew), of El Cajon, CA; son, Stephen Meredith (Kaylyn), of Thousand Oaks, CA; grandchildren, Ashley, Connor, and Nicholas Meredith’ great-grandchildren, Mikayla and Curtis, Jr. all of Ell Cajon, CA; step-children, Christopher Herron and Amanda Herron, of Salina; sister, Ronelda Darrow (Bob), of Salina.

Louis was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 8196, St. Mary’s Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, American Legion Post 62, and past president of Delphos High School Alumni Association.

Louis was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and would love it if you would wear Chiefs or KU to honor him at his service.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at St. Mary Queen of Universe Catholic Church, with Fr. Kevin Weber as celebrant.&nbsp; Burial will follow in Delphos Cemetery, Delphos, Kansas.

Thomas Conner Hampton, age 28, passed away March 24, 2024. Thomas is survived by his parents, Frank Hampton and Isabelle Richard-Hampton of Salina, brother, Zachary Hampton of San Francisco, CA, son, Evan Hampton (mother, Desiree Guebara) of Salina, special friend, Brittney Wells of Salina, and by his grandparents, Nancy Hampton of Salina, and Gilbert and Nancy Richard of Overland Park, KS. His grandfather,r Tom W. Hampton predeceased him.

Thomas is also survived by his aunts and uncles, including Becket Warren of Salina, Nathalie Richard of Raleigh, NC, Alex (Katie) Richard of Olathe, KS, David (Anita) Richard of Austin, TX, and Valerie Richard of Washington, DC., and by his cousins Kay (Ethan) Perkins of Highland, MI, Sara (Steve) Roths of Salina, Gabby and Ben Richard of Olathe, KS, and Luka Richard of Austin, TX.

Thomas was born September 6, 1995, in Fairfax, VA. He moved with his family to Salina when he was almost eight years old. Thomas attended Salina Public Schools, graduating from Salina Central High School in 2014, where he played on a state championship tennis team. He loved playing sports, starting with tennis, soccer and ice skating before he was old enough to attend kindergarten. Whatever the season when he was young, he played the appropriate team sport whether basketball, baseball, football, or soccer. As he got older, he played more individual sports, taking up golf as well as continuing to enjoy tennis. He loved video games and board games and was a ruthless landlord in Monopoly. He was a dedicated fan of the KC Chiefs, happily spending a cold afternoon this past December 31st at Arrowhead Stadium where he watched with his mom and dad and brother as the Chiefs began their championship run to the Super Bowl.

Thomas first took up snow skiing in Virginia when he was four, but it was the Colorado mountains that he loved, and the wonderful ski runs they offered. Vail, Breckenridge and Crested Butte were favorite spots. On the slopes he headed for the Black Diamond and Double Black Diamond runs. For many years, his brother Zach declined to join him on the expert slopes, preferring to avoid the moguls that Thomas found exhilarating. Thomas loved funny movies, sharing a particular preference with his father and brother for any comedy with Adam Sandler.

Thomas cherished his good friends and his family and was well loved by them in turn. We will miss his smile, his kindness, his laughter, and his sense of humor. Please join us in prayers for Thomas. Ferninand “Fred” Weigel, Jr. February 11, 1930 ~&nbsp;March 24, 2024

Ferninand “Fred” Weigel, Jr., 94, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2024 at the Russell Regional Hospital with his family by his side.

Fred was born February 11, 1930 in Emmeram, Kansas.&nbsp; He was one of four children born to Ferninand, Sr. and Lidwina (Sander) Weigel.&nbsp; He grew up in Emmeram and graduated from Victoria High School.&nbsp; He then attended Ft. Hays State University.&nbsp; He taught in a country school for a few years.

Fred served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.&nbsp; He was stationed overseas in Japan.&nbsp; He returned to Kansas after his tour of duty.

Fred was united in marriage to Imelda Leiker on June 19, 1951.&nbsp; This union was blessed with a son, Leon.

They moved to Russell in 1954.&nbsp; They later divorced in 1969.&nbsp; Later he was united in marriage to Joan L. (Kaufman) Garrett on August 12, 1999.&nbsp; They made their home in Russell.

Fred was a Banker most all of his life.&nbsp; He worked for Home State Bank, First National Bank and later known as Sunflower Bank for over 40 years.&nbsp; In `1972, Fred started oil investing with Jim Schoenberger.&nbsp; He was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 4th&nbsp;Degree and K of C financial secretary for over 20 years.&nbsp; He was Past Commander and Life Member of the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240, as well as District and State of Kansas Past Commander.&nbsp; He enjoyed watching sports, especially local teams and the University of Kansas.&nbsp; Fred had a smile that would light up a room that was only matched by the kindness in his heart.

Fred’s surviving family include his wife of 24 years, Joan of the home; son, Leon “Lee” Weigel of Russell, Kansas; sister, Vera Degenhardt (James A.) of Kirksville, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Renee, Jeanie, Erica, Phillip, Melissa, Angela, Kristin, Justin and Jordan; 20 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Thelma Dreiling and Hubertine Herbel.

Celebration of the Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church.&nbsp; Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday, April 1, 2024 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary.&nbsp; Vigil will be held at 7:00 PM, Monday at St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church.&nbsp; Graveside Services will be held at 1:30 PM, Tuesday at St. Fidelis Catholic Cemetery in Victoria, Kansas.&nbsp; A Memorial has been established with the Russell V.F.W. Ferninand “Fred” Weigel, Jr.

Jack Marston January 25, 1930 ~&nbsp;March 14, 2024

Jack Marston passed away on March 14, 2024 at the Homestead of Russell&nbsp;in Russell Kansas at the age of 94.&nbsp;

Jack was&nbsp;born on January 25, 1930 in Plainville Kansas&nbsp;and was the youngest of four children born&nbsp;to Charles and Anna Marston. He graduated in 1948 from Plainville High School and married his high school sweetheart Doris&nbsp;(Louise)&nbsp;Brotemarkle not long afterward.&nbsp;

As was the case with all children born in 1930 his childhood was marked with&nbsp;the wind and dust that became the trademark of those years.&nbsp;His family was not spared the difficulties and scarcities that were common to all families&nbsp;of the Great Plains.

He was eleven years old when WW11 broke&nbsp;out&nbsp;and because&nbsp;the young&nbsp;men and women went off to war that left the old men, women, girls and boys to “fight on the home front”. Jack’s first job was at Walker Air Base in the earliest days of the war. He and his friends were given charge over the pop supply on the base and&nbsp;to insure that the pop was given to the soldiers and not stolen. Their payment was all the pop the young boys could drink.

Once the&nbsp;War ended&nbsp;he&nbsp;worked at a Service Station&nbsp;in Plainville and&nbsp;after graduation he started his life as a butcher. He worked at Safeway in Hays Kansas,&nbsp;other grocery stores in&nbsp;Ellis Kansas, and Great Bend Kansas at a time before they used electric meat saws and all meat was cut by hand. He, Louise and theiryoung&nbsp;daughter Patricia (Pattie) then moved to Russell Kansas where he worked for Klemas IGA.&nbsp;For a number of years he also delivered bread for the Rainbow Bread Company on Sundays.&nbsp;

In total&nbsp;Jack was a butcher for 61 years and he and Louise were married for 66.&nbsp;He had a reserved sense of humor, loved to fish, hunt, and loved to work with wood.&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by his&nbsp;wife Louise Marston, his&nbsp;parents Charles and Anna Marston, his brothers Fred and Delmar,&nbsp;and his great granddaughter Catalina Shea.&nbsp;

He is survived by his daughter Patricia and&nbsp;Son-In-law Roy Rein, his son’s David Marston (Susan)&nbsp;their children and grandchildren, and his son Mark Marston (Beth) and their daughters and his sister Doris Casey.&nbsp;

A grave side service will be held on April 2nd&nbsp;at 1:00pm at the Russell Cemetery in Russell Kansas.&nbsp;Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell Kansas will be directing the service and Pastor Mike Ketchenswill be officiating.&nbsp;

He graduated in 1948 from Plainville High School and married his high school sweetheart Doris&nbsp;(Louise)&nbsp;Brotemarkle not long afterward.&nbsp;As was the case with all children born in 1930 his childhood was marked with&nbsp;the wind and dust that became the trademark of those years.&nbsp;His family was not spared the difficulties and scarcities that were common to all families&nbsp;of the Great Plains.He was eleven years old when WW11 broke&nbsp;out&nbsp;and because&nbsp;the young&nbsp;men and women went off to war that left the old men, women, girls and boys to “fight on the home front”. Jack’s first job was at Walker Air Base in the earliest days of the war. He and his friends were given charge over the pop supply on the base and&nbsp;to insure that the pop was given to the soldiers and not stolen. Their payment was all the pop the young boys could drink.Once the&nbsp;War ended&nbsp;he&nbsp;worked at a Service Station&nbsp;in Plainville and&nbsp;after graduation he started his life as a butcher. He worked at Safeway in Hays Kansas,&nbsp;other grocery stores in&nbsp;Ellis Kansas, and Great Bend Kansas at a time before they used electric meat saws and all meat was cut by hand. He, Louise and theiryoung&nbsp;daughter Patricia (Pattie) then moved to Russell Kansas where he worked for Klemas IGA.&nbsp;For a number of years he also delivered bread for the Rainbow Bread Company on Sundays.&nbsp;In total&nbsp;Jack was a butcher for 61 years and he and Louise were married for 66.&nbsp;He had a reserved sense of humor, loved to fish, hunt, and loved to work with wood.&nbsp;He is preceded in death by his&nbsp;wife Louise Marston, his&nbsp;parents Charles and Anna Marston, his brothers Fred and Delmar,&nbsp;and his great granddaughter Catalina Shea.&nbsp;He is survived by his daughter Patricia and&nbsp;Son-In-law Roy Rein, his son’s David Marston (Susan)&nbsp;their children and grandchildren, and his son Mark Marston (Beth) and their daughters and his sister Doris Casey.&nbsp;A grave side service will be held on April 2nd&nbsp;at 1:00pm at the Russell Cemetery in Russell Kansas.&nbsp;Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell Kansas will be directing the service and Pastor Mike Ketchenswill be officiating.&nbsp;READ MORE:&nbsp;<a href="https://salinapost.com/posts/7068f395-a20b-49d1-9500-ce7d7041a7b2">U.S. Sen. Terence Anthony “Terry” Foster, 70, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2024 at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell.

Terry was born April 1, 1953, in San Diego, California.&nbsp; He was the son of Orville Wayne and Margaret Rita (Murphy) Foster.&nbsp; Terry grew up in Minneapolis, Kansas and graduated from Minneapolis High School in the Class of 1972.&nbsp; During his high school years, he was a member of FFA, the chess club, and played intramural tennis, basketball, and softball.&nbsp; He became an avid tennis player.&nbsp; He may not have looked athletic, but he had skills and quick feet which often surprised his opponents!&nbsp; After graduating from high school, Terry, like his father before him, worked at El Dorado, an RV manufacturing plant in Minneapolis.&nbsp; He decided he did not want to do this for the rest of his life, so he decided to go to Fort Hays University with some of his friends.&nbsp; In the spring of 1874, Terry did one semester at K-State before returning to Fort Hays and graduating in December, 1977 with a B.S. in Education.&nbsp; In the fall of 1975, Terry sat out a semester to go with his mother to visit her home in County Cork, Ireland, which was an education in itself!

While at Fort Hays, Tery met Maribeth Schwarzkopf.&nbsp; They were united in marriage on July 28, 1978, at St. John’s in Beloit, Kansas.&nbsp; They made their home in Glen Elder, Kansas, until 1979, when they moved to Russell.&nbsp; While at Russell, Terry graduated from Fort Hays in 1982 with a Master’s degree in Administration.&nbsp; After getting their Master’s degrees, this union was blessed with two children, Megan and James.&nbsp; They were the pinnacle of his life.

Terry was an Educator and Teacher for many children in Quinter, Cawker City, and Russell, Kansas for 38 years.&nbsp; While at Russell he taught 5th&nbsp;grade and 6th&nbsp;grade math.&nbsp; He also worked for a time at NEW, a call center for Direct TV in Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; Terry was well known for always giving out Jolly Ranchers to his students and friends.&nbsp; Not only did he love rocketry, motorcycles, computers, chess, tennis, and reading nonfiction, but also loved researching a topic and then going to visit the site of his study.&nbsp; He loved watching sports as much as playing them.&nbsp; Some of his favorite teams were K-State and Kansas City Chiefs and we would often go to see a live game.

Terry’s life was full of living, laughing, and loving.&nbsp; He was one of those unique individuals who did not take himself so seriously.&nbsp; He liked to have fun and could always see the humor in situations.&nbsp; One never knew what was going to come out of his mouth!&nbsp; He was always on the go.&nbsp; Life was an adventure.&nbsp; We would take trips on the spur of the moment; trips in blizzard, motorcycle trips with friends, Disney World with family, Segway tour in Kansas City, mystery trip to the Mall of America, and everyday excursions.&nbsp; Terry’s laid-back attitude and determination to go through life his way made us better together.

Terry’s surviving family include his wife of 45 years, Maribeth of the home; daughter, Megan Ashlaw of Wichita, Kansas; son, James Foster and wife Shauna of Russell, Kansas; four grandchildren, Natalie Ashlaw, Derek Ashlaw, Alaina Foster, and Greyson Foster; sister, Elizabeth Hedberg of Wichita, Kansas; nephew, Sean Kipf of Wichita, Kansas and many other nieces and nephews.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents; half-brothers, Bob Foster and Ronnie Foster; half-sister, Rosalee Kern; and the family dog, Charlie.

Celebration of Terry’s Life will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, April 1, 2024, at Trinity United Methodist Church.&nbsp; Visitation will be held from Noon to 8:00 PM, Sunday, March 31, 2024 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.&nbsp; Cremation has taken place with interment at a later date.&nbsp; In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established as the Terry Foster Memorial Fund.&nbsp; Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.

Robert Emmett Sheehy Jr., 92, of Salina, Kan., passed away Saturday, March 23, 2024. He was born on January 26, 1932, in Kansas City, Mo., to Robert and Ella (Lane) Sheehy.

Bob grew up in Kansas City, graduating from Rockhurst High School. He served four years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was a graduate of the University of Minnesota. Bob worked in construction his entire career, retiring as a Project Manager with Kraus-Anderson Construction Company of Minneapolis, Minn. He was an amateur radio operator and member of First Covenant Church of Salina. He loved living on the farm in retirement, playing music, and the challenge of jigsaw and crossword puzzles. Above all else, family was the most important to him.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Eleanor (Cummings) Sheehy; children, Bob (Shelly), Julie, and Frank (Deb); sisters, Mary Lou Hill, Kathleen Sheehy, and Nancy Kern (René); and his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, John; and brother-in-law, John Hill.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 1, at First Covenant Church, 2625 E Magnolia Rd, Salina. A private burial will be held at Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina.

Larry L. Denney, 88, Tescott, died Monday, March 25, 2024, in Minneapolis. Larry was born April 22, 1935, in Mount Hope, KS to Cecil and Gladys (McBride) Denney.

After graduating from high school, Larry enlisted in the United States Air Force and served for 22 years. Upon returning home, he worked at K-Mart in Salina for numerous years.

Larry and Jo Ann Cochrun were united in marriage on August 14, 1954, and made their home near Tescott.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bill Denney; and sister, Norma Wilson.

Survivors are his wife, JoAnn Denney; children, Rhonda Bird (Rob), Laurie Presnell (Karl Kissick), and Steve Denney (Marci); sister, Betty Wood; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services with full military honors will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 30 at Franklin Cemetery, Tescott. Memorials may be made to Wounded Warriors and be left in care of Wilson Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 166, Minneapolis, KS 67467.

Anita Ruth Chartier, age 94, formerly of Concordia, died Monday, March 25, 2024, at the Cumbernauld Village in Winfield, Kansas.Anita was born on December 8, 1929, in Washington County, Kansas, one of twin daughters born to Leslie and Mary (McGregor) Stanton.

Anita was a 1948 graduate of Clifton High School, Clifton, Kansas. On December 16, 1949, she married Sidney Chartier.&nbsp;&nbsp;They made their home in Concordia and enjoyed 59 years together.&nbsp;&nbsp;Anita was a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell for over 30 years, retiring in 1981.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Concordia for over 60 years.&nbsp;&nbsp;She also belonged to the VFW Auxiliary, Telephone Pioneers, and Atheneum club.

Anita enjoyed gardening, and her flower gardens were her pride and joy.&nbsp;&nbsp;She and Sid liked to travel with their fifth-wheel and belonged to the Drifting Clouds camping club and NCHA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney, her parents, and her twin sister Juanita Hruza.&nbsp;&nbsp;She is survived by her sister, Sondra Mockabee, Franklin, NH; daughter, Gwendolyn Tyler (Robert), Winfield, KS; son, Barry Chartier, South Jordan, UT; grandchildren, Christopher Tyler, Winfield, KS;&nbsp;Danielle Morris, Phoenix, AZ, Megan Chartier (Charilla), West Jordan, UT; great-grandchildren, Mary Tyler, Cooper Chartier, and Eleanor Maloney.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church in Concordia with the Reverend Mark Crist officiating.&nbsp;&nbsp;Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Robert D. “Bob” Crow, 94, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Pleasant View Home in Inman, KS.

Bob was born on July 9, 1929, in Centerville, Arkansas, the son of James Carlton and Thelma Madora (Vandiver) Crow.&nbsp; He graduated from Little Rock Tech High School in 1947.&nbsp; On September 13, 1950, he married JoAnn Hunt.&nbsp; She passed away on June 13, 1995.

Bob served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.&nbsp; After getting out of the Navy in 1952, he went to work for Mobil Oil Company.&nbsp; In 1960, he started working for Mid America Pipeline Company as their Operations Superintendent.&nbsp; In 1975, he moved from McPherson, KS, to Tulsa, OK to start his own business, Storage Management and Consultants and Southwest Brine, Inc.

In 1995 after JoAnn passed, he moved to Hutchinson, KS.&nbsp; He married Delores Winkley on January 17, 1998.&nbsp; She died on July 5, 2010.

He worked for Wheeled Coach delivering ambulances all across the United States.&nbsp; When they moved their operations to another state, he went to work for St. Francis Ministries.&nbsp; In 2020, he retired at the young age of 90.

Robert was a life member of V.F.W. Post #2715, McPherson, KS, where he served as Commander from 1974 to 1975.

He is survived by his children, Robert Jr. (Michelle) Crow, Jonette (Mike) Yost, and Keith (Joanne) Crow.&nbsp; He is also survived by his step-children, Kim, Kevin, Kristie, and Kenny.&nbsp; He has also been blessed by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, David, wives, JoAnn and Delores, and long-time companion, Dorothy Butler.

A private family gathering will be at a later date.

Robert Arthur Earley October 1, 1937 ~&nbsp;March 24, 2024

Robert Arthur Earley was born on October 1, 1937, in Beloit, KS. He passed away on March 24, 2024, in Salina, KS, at the age of 87. Bob was the son of Donald and Elgie Mae Earley and grew up on a farm near Formoso, KS.&nbsp;

Bob served in the United States Army for 8 years and was a staff sergeant. He met his bride, Beate Kubler in Germany while stationed there. They were united in marriage on March 17, 1962. They moved back home to Kansas where Bob worked for Phillips Lighting for 37 years. He retired in Las Vegas, NV and enjoyed watching all types of sporting events.&nbsp; He returned to Salina, KS in 2016 to be closer to family.&nbsp;

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Janet Mae Earley, and his siblings Don Earley and Mary Weaver.&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife, Beate of the home, his brother Marvin Earley (Concordia), his 3 sons Jeffrey and Robert (Kelli) of Salina, and James (Annetta) of Kirchhausen, Germany. He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren, Mindy Earley (Salina), Sabrina and Tamara Earley (Kirchhausen, Germany), Khasmen Weers (Salina), Danny Morrison (Bennington), Hunter Vogan (Salina), Chasyn Vogan (Manhattan), and Mia Earley (Salina), as well as 7 great grandchildren. He also has many nieces, nephews, friends, and coffee-drinking buddies that will miss him.&nbsp;

Visitation is from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at Wilson Family Funeral Home in Minneapolis. Graveside services with military honors will be at 3:00 P.M., Thursday, March 28, at the Belleville Cemetery.

Darrel R. Stirn, 88, Salina, died Monday, March 18, 2024, at Salina Regional Health Center. Darrel was born July 11, 1935, near Tescott to Ray and Reta F. (Sechrist) Stirn.

Darrel was a graduate of Tescott High School and on April 25, 1970, he was united in marriage with Mary Goetsch. He was lifelong farmer and a member of Faith Bible Church, Salina.

Survivors are his wife, Mary; daughter, Lisa Rasmussen and her husband, Kevin; and two grandchildren, Kolby and Lilliana Rasmussen.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M., Friday, March 29 at Faith Bible Church, 2100 Quincy St., Salina, KS 67401.&nbsp;

Arlene M. (McElhiney) Boutz, age 88, of Concordia, KS, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Sunset Nursing Home, Concordia, KS. &nbsp;She was born on April 29, 1935, in Malvern, IA. To James Thomas &amp; Ruth Catherine (Moore) McElhiney.

Arlene was a homemaker where she spent her time raising her children and taking care of all her family needs.

She enjoyed gardening, embroidery, traveling, country music and most of all spending time with her family and friends.

She married Leo Benjamin Boutz on March 24, 1981. He preceded her on February 11, 2009.&nbsp;

She is survived by her son, Roger (Debra) Huitt, daughter, Nancy French, son Earl (JoAnne) French, son, Thomas (Debra) French, her beloved grandchildren, April, Tabetha, Tommy, Jr. (Roxie), Rebecca, Jessica, Greg, Megan, and Rebecca (Nick). &nbsp;She is also survived by her great-granddaughter, Samara Stuart, and twenty-four, great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; her parents, James and Ruth, son William Huitt and her three sisters.
