Lorena May Kurtz, 89, of Salina, passed away Thursday, June 6th, 2024.

Lorena was born in Harmon, Oklahoma on May 10, 1935, a daughter of the late Bettie (Wheeler) and Joseph Yeatman.

Survivors include her son-in-law, Scott Quackenbush and three grandchildren, Samantha, Leah, Shelby Quackenbush.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Kurtz; infant daughter, Betsy Hawkins; and daughter, Lori Quackenbush.

Cremation was chosen and no services are planned.

John Duane Patterson January 23, 1935 ~ May 28, 2024

John Duane Patterson&nbsp;was born to Marion Kelly and Imogene (Meeker) Patterson on January 23, 1935, in Eskridge, Kansas. He died at the age of 89 at his home in Salina, Kansas.

John received an engineering degree from Kansas State University. He was drafted into the Army and travelled Europe as a GI. In 1962, he married Peggy Ann Rollins in Salina, Kansas.

John’s electrical engineering career included jobs at the Royals/Chiefs Stadium in Kansas City, the Dallas Cowboys Stadium, and the Houston Opera House in Texas. He also worked in Iran, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia. His talents were highly appreciated by JMEG Electrical Contractors, where he worked for the last 50+ years. John was still bidding contracts a week before he passed. His family would like to recognize his longtime commitment to supporting them.

In his own laconic style, John described his life as: “Born in Kansas, died in Kansas. In between, had a great family and great jobs, saw the world.”

John is predeceased by his wife Peggy Ann (Rollins) Patterson, his sisters Kay and Sharon. He is survived by his daughter Kristen (husband Paul) Leathers, grandson Kelly Vance; his son Kevin (wife Peggene) Patterson; daughter Pam Patterson (husband Robert Gorry Jr), and grandchildren Jordanna Cadden-Packtor, Jacob Packtor, Isaac Packtor and Charlotte Gorry; and two great-grandchildren, River and Rowan Cadden-Packtor.

The family would like to express deep gratitude to John's longtime caregiver, Denise Kohlman, and to his hospice nurses, Amanda and Jess, for tending to all his needs, keeping him comfortable, and providing a peaceful passage for him in his last days.

Viewing will be at noon on Monday, June 10, 2024 at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. 8th Street with a graveside service to follow at 1 p.m. in Gypsum Hill Cemetery. A reception at the house will follow.

Ashley Lynn Money June 9, 1988 ~ June 3, 2024

Ashley Lynn Money, 35, of Salina, Kansas, passed away on June 3, 2024. She was born to Michael Money and Carolyn Ricker Money in Kansas City, Missouri, on June 9, 1988. A native of Salina, Ashley graduated from Salina South High in 2006 and later attended Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York.

She was a beacon of positivity, always looking at life with a hopeful lens. Her writing talent reflected this, and she used her words to share her positive outlook and passions. Her wisdom and intellect were not just for her own benefit; she used them to educate others on platforms that were important to her.

Ashley was a remarkable young woman who championed her struggles and celebrated her successes openly and honestly. She advocated for humans and animals alike and was accepting of not only her individuality but that of others as well. In her own words, "I was a child with big ideas and big feelings."

Survivors include her parents, Carolyn Thompson (Ron) Bedford, IA; Mike Money and partner Annie Grevas, Salina, KS; a brother, Michael John Money, Salina, KS; Grandmother, Kay Money, Hill City, KS; many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins, and her beloved dog Ariana Grande (Ari).

Ashley was preceded in death by her grandparents, Harold and Nancy Ricker, and Grandfather, Michael Kemp Money.

Visitation will be at Ryan Mortuary from 1:00-8:00 on Friday, June 7, with family receiving guests from 5:00-6:30. The family will honor Ashley in a private service on Saturday, June 8, followed by a Celebration of Life for Ashley's friends and family at the Salina Country Club from 2:00-4:00.

In lieu of flowers, suggested memorials in Ashley's memory to the Rolling Hills Zoo, Salina, Kansas, or Big Brothers Big Sisters of Salina, Kansas.

Mitchell Jay Long July 15, 1968 - May 31, 2024

On May 30, 2024, Mitchell J. Long passed away at the age of 55, leaving behind a legacy of love, adventure, and a zest for life. Born on July 15, 1968, in Topeka, KS, to Jim and Vernalee Long, Mitch’s life was a tapestry of learning and exploration.

Mitch graduated from Mission Valley High School, Eskridge KS, in 1986 and pursued his passion for Drafting &amp; Mechanical Arts at Salina Area Technical School, earning his certification. He also obtained his Associated of Arts from Cloud County Community College.

Mitch’s professional journey began with Wilson and Associates in Salina, KS. His adventurous spirt took him to Lexington, KY where he thrived as Lead Project Draftsman for the Mapping and Aerial Department of GRW. Mitch’s dedication and talent earned him a promotion to Head of Mapping and Aerial, where he also took on project sales. His career continued to flourish at SAMS Corp. In April 2024 he began work for SurvTech Solutions, Surveying and Mapping LLC, located in Florida, as a Project/Manager/Business Development.

Mitch’s life was a celebration of family, friendship, and community. He cherished his loved ones and was a steadfast friend to many. Mitch’s heart was full of love for family and friends.

In his earlier years, Mitch enjoyed playing golf, driving fast cars, and being the life of the party. As he grew older, he found joy in target shooting, reading, woodworking, and dreaming of becoming a farmer on his cherished 40 acres in Alabama upon retirement.

Mitch’s vibrant spirit and kind heart touched many lives. Though he is no longer with us, his memory will forever inspire those who knew and loved him.

Mitch was preceded in death by his father Jimmie O. Long.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Vernalee and Jerry Olson of Marquette, KS, sister Shelley Long of Wichita, KS, aunt and uncle Wanda and Odell Long of Gordon, KY, aunt Judy Brewer of Topeka, KS, step brothers Russel Olson of Oklahoma City, OK and Jerry Lee Olson of Eudora, KS and step sister, Katrina Hyman of Salina, KS, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mary Florence Vaupel November 23, 1931 ~ June 4, 2024

Mary Florence Vaupel, 92, passed away on June 04, 2024 at Village Manor in Abilene, KS.

Mary was born on November 23, 1931 in Lincoln County, KS to parents Harold Emery and Ruby Gladys Bennett Stone.

While growing up, Mary enjoyed Girl Scouts, playing the piano as well as the violin and being a drum majorette in High School. The fall after graduating from Solomon High School, she married her high school sweetheart upon his return from the Navy. He rode in on the Solomon train, walked to her house and proposed. The two were married a month later in Solomon and then began their new life on his family farm where they also raised their two children, Mary also belonged to EHU and worked as an excellent school cook at the New Cambria Grade School. Mary also served on the New Cambria School Board, the Solomon School board and was on the Board of Directors at the YWCA. After moving to Salina, she joined the Salina Municipal Women’s Golf Club (she even hit a HOLE IN ONE in Mesa, Arizona). Mary enjoyed winters at their home in Arizona. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing, helping with 4H projects, painting, crafts, and spending time with her family as it grew. She loved singing songs and always had a fun story to tell (along with a riddle).

Barbara Blanche Buskirk September 30, 1937 ~&nbsp;May 23, 2024

Barbara Blanche Buskirk was born September 30, 1937, to Wm. Alexander (Alex) Richards and Dorothy (Dresher) Richards in Hutchinson, KS.&nbsp; Barbara died May 23, 2024, age 86, in Marquette, KS, where she resided at the Riverview Estates.

Barbara’s childhood years through high school were in Hays, KS. She excelled academically and in music, graduating valedictorian of her high school class. With scholarships, she attended and graduated from the University of Kansas and served in the Peace Corps in Costa Rica.

The Peace Corps experience was the highlight of her life and further instilled a desire to serve and aid internationally. Barbara would fondly recall meeting Robert F. Kennedy, brother to the President of the United States, and Sargent Shriver, Director of the Peace Corps, as they visited the inaugural sites of the Peace Corps in the early 1960s.

Barbara continued her education in anthropology and archeology at a graduate level at the University of Kansas, Mexico, and at Exeter in England. And outside of formal structured education, Barbara traveled with her parents for archeological digs in Southwest United States and Mexico.

Barbara’s life was surrounded by her Native American heritage and belief system.&nbsp; Her love of nature, the imperative of protecting the earth, climate and all of creation were primary influences for her decision making. Barbara loved animals, and they were important companions to her at every stage of her life. From a 40 year old mare at the western Kansas farm of her father’s family, to the milk cows at the central Kansas farm of her other grandparents, and her faithful loving cat, Victoria, by her side in the final years of her life, she lived in harmony with nature and thrived in those relationships.

Barbara later taught at Baker University and Ottawa University in Kansas.&nbsp; On December 27, 1981, Barbara married Leroy Buskirk, and they made their home near Lindsborg, KS. They raised a big garden and marketed produce in the area.&nbsp; Both Barbara and Leroy were talented singers and for many years, sang with the Bethany College Oratorio Society in performances of Handel’s Messiah and Bach’s St Matthew’s Passion.&nbsp; She continued her love of singing until her death.&nbsp;

An important mission of Barbara’s, as long as she was able to knit, was, with the help of others she recruited, to make dozens of pairs of mittens for children related to the Haskell Indian Nation in Lawrence, Kansas.&nbsp; Barbara was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lindsborg, where she sang in the choir and participated in study groups and worship.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Leroy who died June, 1995.

Barbara was buried in the Heart Land Prairie Cemetery, New Cambria, Kansas.&nbsp; Notes of condolence may be sent to Stockham Family Funeral Home, McPherson, KS.

And outside of formal structured education, Barbara traveled with her parents for archeological digs in Southwest United States and Mexico.Barbara’s life was surrounded by her Native American heritage and belief system.&nbsp; Her love of nature, the imperative of protecting the earth, climate and all of creation were primary influences for her decision making. Barbara loved animals, and they were important companions to her at every stage of her life. From a 40 year old mare at the western Kansas farm of her father’s family, to the milk cows at the central Kansas farm of her other grandparents, and her faithful loving cat, Victoria, by her side in the final years of her life, she lived in harmony with nature and thrived in those relationships.Barbara later taught at Baker University and Ottawa University in Kansas.&nbsp; On December 27, 1981, Barbara married Leroy Buskirk, and they made their home near Lindsborg, KS. Lloyd Clarence Erickson, 79, of Roxbury, KS, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at Angel Arms, McPherson.&nbsp; He was a retired farmer and also deputy sheriff for the McPherson County Sheriff Department.

Lloyd was born on February 20, 1945, in Lindsborg, KS, the son of Clarence and Geneva (Anderson) Erickson.&nbsp; He graduated from Roxbury High School.&nbsp; He served in the Army National Guard during the Vietnam War.

On January 21, 1971, Lloyd was united in marriage to Barbara Lee Lawson in Lindsborg, KS.&nbsp; They were married for 39 years prior to Barbara’s passing on October 16, 2010.

He was a member of the Roxbury United Parish.

Survivors include his two sons, David Blosser of McPherson, KS and Kevin Erickson of Roxbury, KS; a grandson, Dylan Blosser of McPherson, KS; siblings, Leland (Anna) Erickson of Roxbury, KS, Helen (Dennis) Moennich of McPherson, KS, Larry Erickson of McPherson, KS, Darlene Nelson of Mt. Hope, KS, and Lauren Erickson of Lindsborg, KS; and many extended family members and friends.

Joseph "Joe" John Tursa, 75, passed away on May 31, 2024 at Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, KS.

Joe was born on November 01, 1948 in Brooklyn, NY to parents Robert and Patricia (Hogan) Pickett.

Joe served in the Army as an Army Specialist.

Joseph retired from highway construction.

He married Diana (Letourneau) on March 26, 1994 in Fort Riley, Kansas.

In his younger years he enjoyed playing pool and darts. As he got older he enjoyed hanging out with his friends at the gas station playing Keno. He liked grilling and cooking for friends and family, making rocking chairs for anyone you wanted one. But he especially loved to spend time with his grandkids and great-granddaughter.

Joseph is survived by his wife Diana Mae Tursa (Letourneau); Son: Joey Achterberg and spouse Natasha; Step-Son: Rodney Patten, Step-Daughter: Jennifer Mark and spouse John; Brother-in-Law Daniel Letourneau, Sister-in-Law: Judy Rittgers and spouse Harlan, Grandchildren 6; Great-Granddaughter: 1.

Leslie “Les” Ray Mason October 11, 1954 ~ June 3, 2024

State Representative Leslie “Les” Ray Mason of McPherson, Kansas died Monday, June 3, 2024 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita at the age of 69.

Les was born on October 11, 1954, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. His parents, Gertrude and Reverend Floyd Mason, moved to Nebraska and later McPherson, Kansas where Les spent most of his childhood.

Les was a graduate of McPherson High School in 1972 and Central Christian College of McPherson in 1974 with a degree in business and marketing. He married Kala Ann Archer on April 3, 1976. They had 3 children, Christopher, Jennifer, and Angela. He initially worked at Green’s Furniture in McPherson and later for W.R. Mill in McPherson as a sales manager. He left WR Mill to start a home-based business, Mason Marketing. This later became The Old Muffin Factory. The company made muffin and pancake mixes that were shipped all over the country. Les and Kala operated a retail store, The Old Muffin Factory, in McPherson for several years. The store closed in 2008 as they transitioned back to shipping the mixes before their retirement in 2018 due to Kala’s cancer. Les and Kala were married for 44 years before Kala lost her battle with cancer in April 2020.

Les met Victoria Runco Paluck in 2020, and they were married on September 3, 2022. The two loved to travel together and spend time in McPherson and Topeka, Kansas, Castle Rock, CO and Scottsdale, Arizona. They had the opportunity to travel to Taiwan together with other members of the Kansas legislature in October 2023. They also enjoyed spending time with friends and family and camping at Kanopolis Lake.&nbsp; They especially enjoyed spending time with the grandchildren and attending their school and sport activities.

Les has been active in the McPherson community as a member of the Kiwanis Club in McPherson, Chamber of Commerce, and the United Way Board. Les was a member of Dick Nichols' campaign for Congress in 1990. Les has been a Republican member of the Kansas House of Representatives for the 73rd district since 2014. He has served many roles in the House, most recently as Mentor of Freshman members of the House, the House Assistant Majority Leader, and Chair of the Social Services Budget Committee.

He is preceded in death by his late wife, Kala Mason. He is survived by his wife Victoria, his son Christopher (wife Brooke, son Cole) of Hutchinson, KS, daughter Jennifer of McPherson, KS and daughter Angela Brunk (husband Jesse, daughter Danica) of McPherson, KS; Stepson Ryan Paluck (wife Kyla, sons Korbin and Kash). He is also survived by his brother David Mason (wife Peggie).&nbsp;

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Monday, June 10, 2024, at Countryside Covenant Church, 940 E. Northview Ave., McPherson.&nbsp; The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, June 11, at Countryside Covenant Church with Rev. On May 31, 2024, the world lost a beloved soul with the passing of Jodie Fisher. Jodie was born on January 12, 1965, in Hays, Kansas, to Fred and Carol (Dechant) Werth where she spent her formative years surrounded by love and laughter.&nbsp;Jodie's life was a tapestry of diverse passions and endeavors. As a small business owner, she ran a successful cleaning service and craft store, leaving an indelible mark on her community. Her knack for collecting carnival glass showcased her appreciation for beauty in the simplest of things.&nbsp;Beyond her entrepreneurial spirit, Jodie was renowned for her culinary skills. Her traditional German recipes, particularly the German Wedding Soup and Galuskies, were a source of joy for her family and friends. Cooking brought her immense happiness, evident in the smiles her dishes brought to those around her.&nbsp;Nature held a special place in Jodie's heart; she found solace in tending to her garden and nurturing colorful blooms. Her garden was not just a collection of plants but a haven of tranquility and peace—a reflection of her nurturing personality.&nbsp;Jodie's home in Wentzville, Missouri was a sanctuary not only for flowers but also for hummingbirds. With 14 hummingbird feeders adorning her yard, she welcomed these delicate creatures with open arms and marveled at their beauty.&nbsp;As a pet parent to Yorkshire Terriers and Golden Retrievers, Jodie displayed unwavering love and care for her fur babies. The bond she shared with them was one of unconditional love and companionship—a testament to her kind and gentle nature.&nbsp;In the hearts of those who survive Jodie resides an eternal legacy of love and memories. She is survived by her loving husband Kenneth Fisher, who stood by her side through thick and thin. Richard L. Jones Sr., 85, of Burlingame, KS passed away Friday, May 31, 2024 at Brookside Health &amp; Rehab in Overbrook, KS.&nbsp; He was born November 8, 1938 at Burlingame. KS, the son of Samuel E. and Margaret (King) Jones.&nbsp; He attended Osage County Grade Schools and graduated from Osage City High School.&nbsp;

He worked for Sommer Bros Seed Company; Good Year Tire &amp; Rubber Company and retired from Hamm Quarries.&nbsp; He also farmed and raised livestock.&nbsp;

He enjoyed hunting and fishing.&nbsp; He was a 55+ year member of Fairplain Grange.

He married Dixie Renyer on August 19, 1967.&nbsp; They shared over 44 years of marriage before her passing on November 8, 2011.&nbsp; To this union two sons were born, Richard L. Jones Jr. Overbrook, KS and Samuel C. Jones Lebo, KS.&nbsp;

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert E. Jones and two sisters, Deloris Miles and Helen Atkins.

Surviving family includes his two sons; a daughter-in-law, Cynthia; granddaughters, Kayla, Holly, Feryn and Baylea; grandsons, Chase, Riley and Carson Jones; ten great-grandchildren;&nbsp; sisters, Mary K. KS, the son of Samuel E. and Margaret (King) Jones.&nbsp; He attended Osage County Grade Schools and graduated from Osage City High School.&nbsp;He worked for Sommer Bros Seed Company; Good Year Tire &amp; Rubber Company and retired from Hamm Quarries.&nbsp; He also farmed and raised livestock.&nbsp;He enjoyed hunting and fishing.&nbsp; He was a 55+ year member of Fairplain Grange.He married Dixie Renyer on August 19, 1967.&nbsp; They shared over 44 years of marriage before her passing on November 8, 2011.&nbsp; To this union two sons were born, Richard L. Carol L. Ohse, 87, of Carbondale, KS passed away Friday, May 31, 2024 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, KS.&nbsp; She was born January 24, 1937 in Lebo, KS the daughter of Lloyd and Margaret Anona (Elmore) Stevens.&nbsp; She graduated with the Class of 1955 at Carbondale High School.&nbsp;

She was united in marriage to Henry Ohse on August 7, 1956 in New Mexico.&nbsp; From this union two sons were born, William and Michael Ohse.&nbsp; They shared over 67 years of marriage.

Carol was a Secretary at Forbes Filed Air Force Base in Topeka, Kansas.&nbsp; She was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, fishing and boating at Pomona Lake, Pomona, KS.

Mrs. Ohse was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Margaret Stevens; and a son, William “Bill” Ohse.&nbsp;

Surviving family includes her husband, Henry W. Ohse of the home; a son, Michael L. Ohse of Carbondale, KS; two granddaughters, Brandy and Jessie Ohse; and four great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

Ralph W. “Pops” Anderson, Jr., 79, of Ottawa, KS died Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at AdventHealth Hospital in Ottawa, Kansas.He was born July 6, 1944 in Kansas City, Kansas the son of Ralph W. Anderson, Sr. and Mary (Bauer) Anderson.&nbsp; He grew up in De Soto, Kansas and graduated from De Soto High School with the class of 1962.&nbsp;

On June 1, 1970, Pops was united in marriage to Margaret Doreen Beatty.&nbsp; They enjoyed 48 years of loving marriage together until her passing on June 3, 2018.&nbsp;

After high school, Pops served his country in the United States Army.&nbsp; He then managed a gas station in Topeka before owning a gas station in Lyndon.&nbsp; Pops was the owner and editor of the Franklin County Chronicle in Ottawa.&nbsp; He then went on to own the Radio Shack in town before finally owning Trails End Steakhouse and the Cheyenne Country Bar and Grill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Mary Anderson; his wife, Margaret Anderson; a son, Tony Anderson; and a sister, Margaret Ann Wilson.

He is survived by a daughter, Penny S. Miles and her husband, Johnny, of Ottawa, KS; a son, Corey L. Anderson and his wife, Bobby, of Gardner, KS; two sisters, Lola Villwock of Brainerd, MN and Charlene Cardwell of Ottawa, KS; 9 grandchildren, Brandon Herlien, Blake Anderson and his wife Sam, Jacob Anderson, Devin Anderson and his wife, Rachel, Abigail Anderson, Kaitlyn Anderson, Ashley Miles, Andrew Miles, and Tyler Miles; and one great-granddaughter, Everleigh Anderson.

Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 22nd, at Eagles Hall, 524 E 15th Street, Ottawa KS 12:00 p.m.to 3:00 pm.&nbsp;A small committal service will follow at Peoria Cemetery, Peoria, KS. Victoria “Vicki” M. Roberts, age 100, entered into rest on Monday, June 3, 2024, at the Advena Living of Clay Center, Clay Center, Kansas. She was born on January 7, 1924, in Concordia, Kansas, to Perry and Anna (Forsling) Johnson.

Vicki attended Cottonwood country school while growing up until the eighth grade. &nbsp;She was a 1941 graduate of Concordia High School, Concordia, Kansas.

On April 3, 1946, she married Victor W. Roberts in Concordia, Kansas. &nbsp;He preceded her in death on February 4, 1980.

She was a member of the Women’s Aux. of the American Legion Post #76 and V.F.W. Post # 588, both of Concordia, and the Clyde V.F.W.

Vicki was a volunteer for almost everything: &nbsp;helping at the American Legion, V.F.W. and Mt. Joseph Nursing Home for many years. &nbsp;She was a very patriotic person and loved to help place the American flags in the cemetery on Memorial Day in honor of veterans.&nbsp;

Vicki was an avid KU fan, had a passion for windmills, barns and birds. Most of all she loved spending time with her beloved family and especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter, Debi Nuss (Ron), Russell, KS; two sons, Michael Roberts (Emily Fonken), Clyde, KS; Randy Roberts (Betty), Lebanon, MO; nine grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, two great-great- grandchildren.

She was preceded by her husband, Victor W. Roberts; parents, Perry and Anna Johnson; daughter, Susan Roberts and granddaughter, Kerry Ann Roberts; seven brothers and sisters.

A Celebration of Life service will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, Kansas. Inurnment will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas, with Pastor Brenda Rodger officiating.&nbsp;

Gene Sheldon Ganstrom January 30, 1930 ~ May 31, 2024

Gene Sheldon Ganstrom, age 94, left this life for his eternal home on May 31, 2024, at Sunset Home, Concordia. &nbsp;He was born on January 30, 1930, to Stanley and Olga (Landen) Ganstrom and grew up on a farm northeast of Concordia in the Gotland community. &nbsp;Gene attended Gotland School before graduating from Concordia High School in 1948. &nbsp;He married Pearl Johnson on August 23, 1951, at The Baptist Church in Concordia and they remained in the community their entire lives. &nbsp;

Gene and his lifelong friend Dean Johnston were partners for 35 years in Ganstrom and Johnston Contractors and Builders, developing a reputation as the preeminent home builders in the area. &nbsp;Upon his “retirement “ from the construction business, Gene worked for an additional 22 years as Special Projects Leader for Nazareth Convent and Academy where he hand-crafted many beautiful renovations to the Sisters’ historic properties. &nbsp;He was also proud to serve his country in the National Guard for 8 years.

Gene was active in The Baptist Church his entire life, a faithful member who served in various leadership positions including Deacon. &nbsp;He was also a member of the Sunset Home Board of Directors for a number of years. &nbsp;Gene and Pearl enjoyed a lifetime of following the activities of their children and grandchildren, attending CCCC and CHS basketball games, and exploring the US (all 50 states) by car or on bus tours. &nbsp;The highlight of their travels was a journey to Gotland, Sweden, the home of their ancestors.&nbsp;

Gene is survived by his son, Sheldon (Linda), of Hays, his daughter Kathryn (Doug), of Concordia; five grandchildren: Jenny (Shawn) Sullivan of Topeka, Landen (Danielle) Ganstrom of Charleston, SC, Alissa (Ben) Smith, of Olathe, Tiara (Ryan) Gottschalk of Hays, Russell Herman of Wichita; 21 great-grandchildren: Drew, Grace, Brooke, and Claire Sullivan; Lilli, Luna, and Penelope Ganstrom; Gavin, Ella, and Liam Smith; Lexi Coffey, Katelyn and Nolan Gottschalk; and Brianna, Kyren, Taegan, Raegan, Rylee, Treysen, Tyus, and Tobin Herman and two great-great-granddaughters: Elsie Hines and Hudsyn Coffey.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Pearl and four brothers: Donald and wife, Verna; George and wife, Louise, Landen (age 8) and Gerald (infant). &nbsp; &nbsp;

Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM on Friday, June 7th at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia. A celebration of life service will be held at The Baptist Church in Concordia at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 8th, 2024 with Pastor Tim Miller officiating.&nbsp; Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #76 and V.F.W. Kipp Ivan Cooper December 15, 1948 ~ June 1, 2024

Kipp Ivan Cooper, age 75 of Mineral Bluff, GA passed away on Saturday, June 1st, 2024.

Kipp Ivan Cooper was born on December 15th, 1948, in Waukegan, Illinois to his parents, Ivan Arthur and Thelma Jo Armstrong (Smith). Kipp served his country honorably in the Vietnam War in the United States Army. Kipp married Jackie Sue Collins on September 2, 1978, blending their two families together as one. Kipp went on to be an apprentice lineman and spent his entire professional career of 40 years as a lineman for Westar in Salina, Kansas. During his time in Salina, he was a member of the Masons. In retirement, Jackie and Kipp spent time traveling and lived in both Florida and Georgia. Kipp loved his time in Georgia with Jackie and his dog Lucy exploring nature, fishing, and golfing. Kipp loved spending time with all his family and friends.

The survivors of Kipp Ivan Cooper include his wife, Jackie Sue Cooper; children, Brady Cooper (Tiffany), Jeffrey Cooper (Chandra), Rachael Cooper; grandchildren, Jacob Cooper (Shelby), Tasha Cooper, Mackala Cooper, Brayden Pascoe, Teressa Cooper, Christine Pascoe, Avery Cooper, Nicolas Cooper, and Adriana Cooper; great-grandchildren, Sylar Cooper, Tavean Cooper, and Jasper Cooper; siblings, Kathy Kroupa (Kenny), Susie Sellers; several nieces and nephews also survive him.

Kipp went on to be an apprentice lineman and spent his entire professional career of 40 years as a lineman for Westar in Salina, Kansas. During his time in Salina, he was a member of the Masons. In retirement, Jackie and Kipp spent time traveling and lived in both Florida and Georgia. Kipp loved his time in Georgia with Jackie and his dog Lucy exploring nature, fishing, and golfing. Russell Wayne Johnson, 60, lifelong Roxbury, Kansas resident, died Sunday, June 2, 2024 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas.

He was born on January 15, 1964 in Salina, Kansas, the son of Raymond William and Lois Elaine Vidricksen Johnson.

For many years Russell farmed in the Roxbury area. He married Brenda Skinner in August 1982 and they later divorced.

Survivors include his children April Linder and husband Lynn of Ellsworth; Mason Johson with Kyle Williams in Hutchinson; and Rene Coyle and husband Doug of Hutchinson; brothers Jack R. Johnson of Roxbury, Peter W. Johnson of Canton, Georgia, Timothy A. Johnson of Branson, Missouri; sisters Amy Scott of Roxbury and Eloise Eickstadt of McPherson; along with four grandchildren.

Russell is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Clayton L. Johnson and Thomas E. Johnson.

Cremation has taken place and inurnment services in the Valley View Cemetery in Roxbury will be announced by Affordable Cremations Plus, Wichita, Ks.&nbsp;

Merle F. Binder, 86, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Monday, June 3, 2024, at the McPherson Hospital.&nbsp;

Merle was born on September 15, 1937, in Oak Hill, KS, the son of Fredrick T. and Alva L. (Lewis) Binder.&nbsp; He graduated from Longford High School in 1955.&nbsp;

On September 18, 1956, Merle was united in marriage to Noleen June Clark.&nbsp; This union was blessed with four children, Mark, Dan, David, and Ronda.&nbsp; Merle and Noleen were married for 63 years prior to her passing on March 6, 2020.

Merle and Noleen established their first home together in Clay Center, KS.&nbsp; In 1957, they moved to Wichita, KS until 1959, when they moved back to Longford.&nbsp; In 1966, the family moved to McPherson, KS.&nbsp;

Merle worked at McPherson Coop and then was an area seed salesman for Sommer Brothers Seed Company in Topeka and Rudy Patrick Seed Company in Hutchinson. He retired from Chemstar in McPherson where he was a corn mill operator.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He was a member of the First Christian Church, McPherson.&nbsp;

Survivors include his children, Mark Binder (Cindy) of Garfield, AR, Dan Binder (Fay Ann) of Inman, KS, David Binder of Plano, TX, and Ronda Gilstrap (Douglas) of Wichita, KS; sister, Leona Woellhof of Oak Hill, KS; sister-in-law, Freda Binder of Texas; seven grandchildren, Chad Binder, Justin Binder (Taylor), Jessica Smith (Ty), Mallory Binder, Natalie Binder, Jason Gilstrap (Ashley), and Luke Gilstrap (Megan); nine great-grandchildren, Tinley Gilstrap, Tucker Gilstrap, Tess Gilstrap, Oliver Gilstrap, Nicolas Gilstrap, Shay Smith, Sloan Smith, Charli Jo Binder, and Wade Binder; and several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and siblings, Calvin Binder, Ruth Proctor, and Wayne Binder

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 8, 2024, at McPherson Cemetery. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM at the First Christian Church with Pastor Lynn Scott officiating.

Steven Frank Ward March 31, 1958 ~&nbsp;June 1, 2024

Steven Frank Ward, son of the late Frank and Margaret Ward, was born on March 31, 1958, in Bussac, France. He passed away June 1st, 2024.

He graduated from Salina Central High School in 1976. He then went on to proudly serve in the US Army from 1980 to 1983 as a combat engineer.

For the last 29 years, Steve worked at Union Pacific railroad as a locomotive engineer.

He married the love of his life Brenda Hustus November 2nd, 1985. From this marriage, they had 2 sons - Eric and Andrew Ward.

Anyone who knew Steve knows that he loved Jeeps, adored his sons, and melted for his first granddaughter, Olivia. He greatly enjoyed country cruising with his wife, fried chicken, and American history.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Ward of the home, his two sons Eric (Kayla) Ward, of Chapman, KS and Andrew Ward, Kansas City, MO. Sisters Linda (Dan) Magathan, Pamela (Randy) Jenkins, Kathryn Prather, Julie (Scott) Boyce, brother Michael (Sheila) Ward and one granddaughter Olivia Ward.

Steven is preceded in death by his parents and sister Beverly Fletcher.

In lieu of flowers, the family politely suggests memorials to the American Legion post 62 in c/o Roselawn Burial and Cremation Services.
