Terry Ray Watkins, 71 passed away peacefully on March 8th, 2024.

“Goose”, as he was known to his friends and family, was born in Salina, Kansas, on October 12th, 1952, to Carlos and Arlene Watkins. He was one of three brothers and grew up in Salina. He was in union with Judy Fisk for 30 years and had three children, Travis, Tami, and Tina. He had 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Carlos and Arlene.

Please join the family for a Celebration of Life gathering, held on Saturday, March 23rd, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N 8th St, Salina, KS.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Legion, The VFW, and / or Boys State.

Helen LaVerne (Spohrer) Nelson,&nbsp;88, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2024&nbsp;in Salina, KS. She was born, the&nbsp;daughter of Roy P. and Nellie&nbsp;(Dolan)&nbsp;Spohrer, Sept. 26, 1935, in Norton,&nbsp;KS.

Helen attended school at New Almelo and graduated from St. John’s Beloit High School in 1953. Her class was the first graduating class at St. John’s. On May 26, 1956, she married Martin Andrew Nelson at Concordia, KS. To this union two daughters were born.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Martin, who passed away April 17, 2012; her parents; brothers, Aaron&nbsp;M.&nbsp;(Margaret);&nbsp;Leroy&nbsp;J.&nbsp;(Lucille);&nbsp;and&nbsp;sisters, Fern&nbsp;O.&nbsp;(Joseph) Reinert; Anna Maria&nbsp;(Robert) Brummer.

She is survived by daughters, Terri Ann Black and husband, Larry; Tamra Aileen Budreau and husband, Scott; grandchildren, Cheryl Lynn Mason and husband, Greg;&nbsp;David Allen Black and wife, Christina;&nbsp;Danielle Elizabeth Ruda and husband, Daniel;&nbsp;and Jennifer Marie Gottschalk and husband, Jerome; great-grandchildren, Jillian Marie Mason, Aiden Kane Black, Waylon Abram Black, Dominic Dean Ruda, Lucas Michael Ruda, and Julian Reid Gottschalk; brother, Albert Joe (Sharleen); and sister-in-law, Doreen Nelson; nieces, nephews family, and friends.

Helen was retired from banking. She enjoyed family, playing board games, and&nbsp;especially playing cards.

Visitation:&nbsp;Friday,&nbsp;March 15&nbsp;at 6:00&nbsp;p.m., followed by a&nbsp;7:00&nbsp;p.m.&nbsp;rosary at&nbsp;St. Patrick’s Catholic Church&nbsp;in Lincoln.

Memorial mass:&nbsp;Saturday,&nbsp;March 16 at&nbsp;10:30&nbsp;a.m.&nbsp;at&nbsp;St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Burial&nbsp;will&nbsp;follow at the Lincoln City Cemetery.

Darlene M. Walden, age 87, entered into rest on Monday, March 4, 2024, at the Sunset Nursing Home in Concordia, Kansas. &nbsp; She was born on September 1, 1936, in Concordia, Kansas to Taylor and Mildred (Revell) Jewett.

She married Darrell D. Walden on June 19, 1955, in Concordia, Kansas. To this union two children were born, Debra and Douglas.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Concordia, Kansas.

Darlene is survived by her husband Darrell D. Walden, Concordia, KS; a daughter, Debra (Debi) Walden (Andrew Goetz), of Corona Del Mar, CA; a son, Douglas Walden (Robin), Portland, OR; three grandsons, one great-grandson and one great-granddaughter.

She was preceded by her parents, and three brothers.

Services will be held at a later time at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas.

Weston Daniel Wetter was born on Friday, March 8, 2024 at Wesley Medical Center and passed away peacefully in the arms of his parents that day. He was preceded in death by his great grandparents, Juanita and Paul Kling, Lloyd and Marjorie Wetter, Rose Pauly, Ken Faerber, his uncle, Cory Wetter, and 3 unborn siblings.

He is survived by his parents, Colby and Sarah Wetter, his brothers and sister Jackson, Evelyn and Nathaniel Wetter. His grandparents Jerry and Lori Wetter; Bill and Lori Faerber; great grandmother Lillian Faerber; great grandfather Ronald Pauly; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 15,&nbsp; at Sacred Heart Cathedral. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Thursday, March 14 at Sacred Heart Cathedral, with vigil and rosary at 6 p.m.

Paul Bohnert, 65, passed away on March 10, 2023 at Westview Manor in Peabody, Ks. He was born on February 2, 1959 in Concordia, Ks to Keith and Wanda (Swinton) Bohnert.&nbsp;

He grew up in Mankato, Ks and graduated from Mankato High School and attended Mankato Christian Church. He worked various jobs throughout his life until his health problems limited his ability to work.&nbsp; He worked at John Deer, Sunflower, Newell Implement and repaired lawn mowers. He loved animals, especially his dogs through the years. Everyone who knew Paul enjoyed his sense of humor.

He is preceded in death by his parents.&nbsp;

He is survived by his son, Paxton Bohnert, sister, Carol Parker (Lonnie) of Clay Center, Ks, and brother, Steven Bohnert (Tammy) of Mankato, Ks.&nbsp;

Walter Lee Hundley January 13, 1930 ~&nbsp;March 11, 2024

Walter Lee Hundley, 94, of McPherson, KS, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2024, with loving family by his side.&nbsp; He had been living with his grandson, Kyle and his wife, Andrea, in McPherson for the past 18 months.

He was born on January 13, 1930, in Olney, IL, the son of Edward &amp; Ida Hundley.&nbsp; He graduated from high school in Noble, IL. On June 22, 1955, Walter was united in marriage to Lulubelle “Lou” Goble in Olney, IL. &nbsp;&nbsp;Walter and Lou were married for 62 years prior to Lou’s passing on September 14, 2017.&nbsp;

Walter worked at the Poehler Wholesale Grocery and McPherson Wastewater Treatment Plant. Following retirement from the Wastewater Treatment Plant, he worked at Moondance Tree Farm.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He was a United States Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post #24.

Survivors include: three children, Mary Summerlin (Wylie) of Inman, KS, Dale Hundley (Susan) of Hotchkiss, CO, and Jeannie Werner (John) of McPherson, KS; daughter-in-law, Amber Stucky (Gary) of McPherson, KS; siblings, Marjorie Field of Effingham, IL, Henry Hundley of Noble, IL, and Rosa Stanley of Dawson, IL; four grandchildren, Michelle Hundley (James McArtor), Chans Hundley, Jess Taylor (Kevin Blackwell), and Kyle Hundley (Andrea); eight great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sons, John Hundley and Neal Hundley; and granddaughter, Kirsten Hundley.

The visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM, Sunday, March 17, 2024, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.&nbsp; The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, March 18, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.&nbsp; Burial with Military Honors will follow at McPherson Cemetery.

Virgil Lee Stokesbeary, age 74 of Concordia, Kansas, passed away peacefully at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas on March 8th,2024. He was born in Salina, Kansas at St. John's Hospital on March 24th, 1949 to Richard (Ernest) and Bonnie (Dodge) Stokesbeary. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Howard Stokesbeary and is survived by brothers Lloyd and David Stokesbeary and a sister Peggy Ann Stokesbeary. Virgil was a certified forklift operator and worked as a laborer for Gene's Radiator until retirement. He moved to Concordia, Kansas in 201 7 and resided at Cloud Village Apartments. Virgil enjoyed hobbies of tinkering with old vehicles and locksmithing. He loved telling stories and meeting new people as he made friends easily. Virgil chose cremation with Nutter Mortuary, Concordia, Kansas in charge of arrangements. He requested that there not be any services. Burial will be in Hollis cemetery in Hollis, Kansas.

Nathan Eli Martin July 16, 1994 - March 6, 2024

Nathan Eli Martin, 29, of Concordia, Kansas passed away at his home on March 6th, 2024. He was born on July 16th, 1994 to Mary Louise (Raumann-Schaefer) Martin in Salina, Kansas. &nbsp;

Nathan was the 4th child of 5. He was brought home to older brothers, Shane and Josh. Little sister Jasmine was to come later. Older brother Michael lived in Colorado.&nbsp;

Nathan was a typical boy who loved all things “boy”. He loved cars, trucks, 4 wheelers, going out and just playing in the dirt, although fishing was by far his favorite. Getting on the water in his boat to fish was his favorite getaway. Whenever he wasn’t outside he would be in front of his PS4. Farming Simulator, GTA, 2K, Madden and Red Dead Redemption were among his favorites.&nbsp;

In high school Nathan loved to play football and basketball. He also participated in track and field. His junior year of high school he was unable to play the last game of football due to sport injuries to his ankles requiring surgery. For his Senior year he held the position of manager for the football team. Nathan was a big fan of the Denver Broncos and looked forward to one day being able to attend a live game. Nathan has many medals from his sports achievements that he was very proud of. Nathan graduated from Pike Valley High School in Scandia, KS in 2012.&nbsp;

Nathan was a jack of all trades. He was able to work on vehicles, lawn equipment, his boat, camper and if he didn’t know how, he would figure it out. He also had a love for carpentry and several items he has made are still in his moms house today. He spent a lot of time at his moms house. Nathan and his mom were very close and would spend a lot of time fishing together or just hanging out. He was always there to help her at home or in the yard when needed. &nbsp;

He was a collector and loved Community Wide Clean up. You could see Nathan driving through town in his 1997 gold Toyota Camry with a trailer hooked to the back picking up junk metal to recycle. He loved his car and would brag about it frequently. He was super excited last year when it rolled over to 300,000 miles. His newest “baby” was a 1977 Red Ford F150 Custom that he was planning on fixing up for his nephew Odin. &nbsp;

Nathan had the purest, kindest soul. He was a friend to all and would do anything to help someone in need. He was always there for a friend if they needed an ear, a hug or a ride. Nathan had many nieces and nephews but the 2 littlest lived at home in Concordia whom he got to see all the time. Little Odin and Phoenix loved their Uncle Nate Nate and were very close to him. His niece Jocelyn lives in Lincoln Nebraska but was closer when he was fixing up his boat. She had the privilege of helping Uncle Nate fix up his boat and even got to pick out the color!&nbsp;

Nathan lived at home with a special girl named Cocoa, who is a Boxer/Pit mix. He loved her and the many rides they would take together. Nathan loved to tell stories and had many stories to tell. Especially fishing stories. The fish was this Big!! If you knew Nathan, you knew a lot about Nathan because he loved to talk to people about everything exciting in his life... Mostly his car and fishing! &nbsp;

Nathan was preceded in death by maternal Grandparents John and Eleanor Schaefer, his older brother Michael Ferrell and step-father Mark Harrington.&nbsp;

Left to mourn his passing are his children, Marcia and Delbert Martin; mother, Mary Martin of Concordia, KS; siblings Shane Martin (Maria) of Beloit, KS, Joshua Gonzales of Concordia, KS, and Jasmine Eckhardt of Concordia, KS; nieces and nephews Odin and Phoenix Eckhardt, Jocelyn Gonzales, Gracelyn, Ella, Vincent and Victory Martin, and Merrick Miller; best friend Tristan Stepter. &nbsp;

A private family viewing will take place with a service to follow at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 4p.m. on Friday, March 15th 2024. 1022 E. 11th St. Concordia, KS 67420.&nbsp;

He was born on July 16th, 1994 to Mary Louise (Raumann-Schaefer) Martin in Salina, Kansas. &nbsp;Nathan was the 4th child of 5. He was brought home to older brothers, Shane and Josh. Little sister Jasmine was to come later. Older brother Michael lived in Colorado.&nbsp;Nathan was a typical boy who loved all things “boy”. He loved cars, trucks, 4 wheelers, going out and just playing in the dirt, although fishing was by far his favorite. Getting on the water in his boat to fish was his favorite getaway. Whenever he wasn’t outside he would be in front of his PS4. Farming Simulator, GTA, 2K, Madden and Red Dead Redemption were among his favorites.&nbsp;In high school Nathan loved to play football and basketball. He also participated in track and field. His junior year of high school he was unable to play the last game of football due to sport injuries to his ankles requiring surgery. Stephen "Skip" Alfred Preston November 15, 1948 ~ March 12, 2024

Stephen Alfred “Skip” Preston, 75 of Enterprise passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2024 with his family by his side. He was born November 15, 1948 in Olean, New York, the son of William Alfred and Doris Marie (Knapp) Preston. Skip grew up in Franklinville, New York most of his life, graduating from Franklinville High School in 1966. He served as a police officer in Franklinville prior to his military service. He joined the United States Air Force for four years and then enlisted in the United States Army serving during the Vietnam War. He served his country for twenty years.

On April 29, 2006 he was united in marriage to Beverly Holley. Skip worked in Junction City building boats at the boat factory and later Skip and his son started their own dry-wall business. Skip loved to hunt and fish. He was also a big time bowler, earning the “300 Ring”. He was a member of the Chapman American Legion. Skip was very family orientated and would do anything for his friends or family. Skip is survived by his loving wife Beverly. Daughters: Marla Jean Nice and husband Gerald; Nichole Renae Preston; Tiffany Nichole Holley and MaKayla Locke and husband William. Two sons: Shawn C. Preston and Benjamin Franklin Pitman. Nine grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren and one brother, William “Spike” Preston and wife Sherri. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Amanda Kay Holley and one sister, Veronica Dallas. Funeral services with military honors will be Friday March 15 at 2:00 p.m. at Londeen-Overlease Funeral Home. Ruth Eldine Ledbetter April 1, 1927 — March 8, 2024

Ruth’s life began on April 1, 1927, in Comanche, OK. She was the daughter of Preston O. and Betsy (Stump) Ratcliff. She was married to William A. McNeil and after that marriage dissolved, she married William Ledbetter on February 25, 1946.

Ruth was a homemaker and a member of the Potwin United Methodist Church. She stayed active in the church, serving as funeral dinner chairperson, United Methodist Women, her Circle group and as a church volunteer for nearly all events. She was involved with Helping Hands, a 32-year member of the Lion’s Club, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Grandmother’s Club.&nbsp;

She is survived by her grandchildren Candy Howard of Hayesville and Troy McNeil of Honolulu, HI; great grandchildren Megan, Tony, Travis, Sophia, Bob, and Meighan Jo; great great grandchild Bailey and many dear friends.&nbsp;

Ruth passed away on March 8, 2024, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Joe McNeil, brother Jerry Ratcliff, sister Juanita Dale and great grandson Joey McNeil.&nbsp;

Her family will gather with friends on Wednesday March 13, 2024, from 10-11 a.m. at the Potwin United Methodist Church where her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. led by Chaplain Norman Tillotson. Born 11/18/1940 in Herington to Hazel Louise (Martin) Morgan.&nbsp;A humble start, the youngest of four,&nbsp;&nbsp;Hazel Jr. went on to soar.

A loyal Friend to many, she has been.&nbsp;Also, deeply loved her kin.

Railroader Band, Cheerleader, &amp; Twirler, too.&nbsp;&nbsp;There isn't anything Hazel couldn't do.&nbsp;Graduated High School in '58,&nbsp;&nbsp;A reason to celebrate!&nbsp;&nbsp;Hired as an Operator with Southwestern Bell.&nbsp;Loved her job &amp; did it well,&nbsp;And by the way, could also sell!

A favorite career at Shirley’s Clothes Closet, Hazel had a heyday.&nbsp;With her besties, Susie Solomon &amp; Shirley May, Selling clothes &amp; decorating the window display.&nbsp;&nbsp;In 1961 Hazel &amp; Roger Wendt wed. Down the aisle of St. Paul’s they walked, vows they said.&nbsp;They remained connected through thick &amp; thin.&nbsp;Had each other's back to the very end.

Gina Michelle born in ’63 and&nbsp;they&nbsp;became WE.

Mom made our house a home,&nbsp;Nowhere else&nbsp;we'd want to roam.&nbsp;&nbsp;She introduced Gina to Jesus at ages 2, 3, &amp; 4.&nbsp;Who could ask for ANYTHING more?! Best Gift&nbsp;ever, making life a divine endeavor.

Being a homemaker and mother were Hazel’s greatest joys. She provided, loved, and taught, no ploys. She was very involved with St. Paul’s Church. Sponsoring Luther League with Roger took top perch. She also organized many funeral lunches, which she enjoyed a lot. As a member of the Council, she pulled no punches.

Beyond creative, Hazel could decorate AND grout.&nbsp;Wayyyy before Martha Stewart, without a doubt.&nbsp;Decorated Gina’s first apartment &amp; many homes after. A lot of&nbsp;debate, discussion, AND much laughter!

She maintained a beautiful yard, magic water from her spout,&nbsp;Flowers so large, you can hear them shout.Butterflies &amp; Bees, excitement they tout!

Hazel’s robust garden with large leafy greens,&nbsp;Tomatoes, cucumbers, beets and beans.&nbsp;Some say this is, "Eating clean."The rest of us say, "Yummy, a culinary glean!"&nbsp;&nbsp;A dedicated lady over many a year,&nbsp;Hazel's had many roles, all very dear:&nbsp;Wife, Mother, Mentor, Coach,&nbsp;"Keep your eyes on the ball!"&nbsp;her loving reproach. &nbsp;&nbsp;Banker, Friend, &amp; Matron of Honor. &nbsp;Without her in my life,&nbsp;I’d a been a goner.&nbsp;

Needless to say, my Mom's taught me much,This little ditty illustrates&nbsp;such.&nbsp;She was sassy, classy, creative, and smart, Amazing &amp; beautiful with a&nbsp;GREAT BIG HEART!

I can't thank her enough for ALL she's done,&nbsp;&nbsp;She'll know what I mean when I say, "I WON!"&nbsp;All my gratitude for her goes to THE SON.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Jesus says,&nbsp;"I knew you BEFORE I formed you in your mother's womb."&nbsp;(Jeremiah 1:5). And on March 2, 2024, I escort you to the tomb. HE chose her for me &amp; me for her.&nbsp;About that, there is no blur.

Cherished memories embedded deep within,&nbsp;Oh, how I wish we could live them again.&nbsp;But even better, Mom, I’ll see you at Home&nbsp;(John 14:1-4)….&nbsp;No where else we’d want to roam!

Preceding Hazel in death were her grandparents who helped raise her, Josephine &amp; Orr Kellogg, her cherished mother Hazel Morgan, her brothers, Alvin (wife Avanelle) &amp; Gerald Martin, her beloved sister Wanda Trapp &amp; brother-in-law “Jimmy Joe” Trapp&nbsp;(Hazel lived with them her senior year in high school; both were BFFs),&nbsp;her husband James “Roger” Wendt, &amp; nephews Gregory &amp; Quinn Trapp.&nbsp;

Survivors include her daughter Gina &amp; “favorite son-in-law,” Bill Blasing, nephew Michael “Mikey” Trapp&nbsp;(Hazel thought of him more like a son)&nbsp;&amp; wife Christine, niece Debbie (Trapp) Beam &amp; husband Dave, and many other nieces/nephews.&nbsp;(She loved her kin!)

And lastly, a deeply special thank you to Mike &amp; Christine Trapp for looking in on Aunt Hazel, sharing morning coffee, running errands, mowing her lawn, trips to the ER, spending the night with her when she was scared, &amp; simply, beautifully loving her&nbsp;so very well&nbsp;over many years. To Carol Stilwell, her lifelong, loyal, unconditionally loving BFF since kindergarten. And great-niece Sarah Trapp, for being Hazel’s partner in crime since you were young, or as you also say, “She was the peanut butter to my jelly”….strawberry floats anyone?&nbsp;Lastly, to my godly soulmate, husband, &amp; BFF of 50 years, Bill, who unconditionally loved Mom &amp; she him.&nbsp;(Mom prayed we’d get married since we were in high school.) Vernel Thompson, 72, of Salina, passed away Wednesday, March 6th, at Good Shepherd Hospice, Manhattan.

Vernel was born in Flora, Mississippi on December 31, 1951, a son of Jessie Mae (Thomas) and Hal T. Thompson, Sr.

He worked at Roberts Foundry for 10 years and Shears Construction for 20 years.

He was a loving father, partner, son, and friend.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline Thompson; daughter, Christina Johnson (Isaac), of Junction City; stepdaughter, Reola Lane, of Salina; two stepsons, Erik Wilson, of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Titus Lane, of Salina; 6 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Vernel is also survived by his sister, Shelly Thompson-Collier, of Salina; and two brothers, Calvin Thompson, of Topeka, and Roosevelt Thompson, of Salina.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Hal T. Thompson Jr., and sisters, Laura Hill and Paulette Samuel.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 16th at Living Word International Ministries, 915 Smith Ave, Salina, Kansas with Bishop Stephen Davison officiating.

Arletta A. (Hays) Googe March 20, 1941 ~ March 10, 2024

Arletta A. Googe, 82, passed away March 10th, 2024, at Eaglecrest Assisted Living Center, Salina, surrounded by her family. She was born on March 20, 1941, in Salina, to Vernon and Mabel (Burt) Hays. On June 25, 1959, she married Robert B. Googe at Schilling Air Force Base in Salina. The next 21 years were spent as a loyal housewife to her husband as they traveled together to many different places in the world in the Air Force.

Arletta worked at Woolco and Sears both in Salina during her lifetime. She spent many hours crocheting various items for family members. She loved to crochet as well as do other crafts. She was an avid bingo player and used to go play bingo as often as she could. She was quite the winner, too.

Survivors include her daughter, Jeanette Googe of Hutchinson; a granddaughter, Jessica Rodriguez of Toledo, OH and a grandson, Jason Googe also of Toledo, OH; a niece, Jennifer Wilson-Compton and husband, Jeff of Hoisington; a nephew, Richard Dallen and wife, Violeta of Copperas Cove, TX; 5 great grandkids; and 7 great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, of 64 years; her son, Michael, 61 years; and her sister, Marsha Dallen, 74 and her brother-in-law, James Dallen, 72.

The family would like to especially thank the staff at Eaglecrest Assisted Living center for their excellent and loving care of my mother during her time there. The staff there is top notch, and second to none, and I would highly recommend them for their excellent care.

Arletta was a lifetime member of the VFW. Memorials may be sent to the Salina VFW Post 1432 in care of Ryan Mortuary.

Services will be held at the Ryan Mortuary, Salina, on March 16th, 2024, at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at the Poheta Cemetery, near Kipp, Ks.

Bennett Bernard “Ben” Kinkelaar, 62, of Wichita, Kan., passed away on Monday, March 4, 2024. He was born on September 5, 1961, in Dodge City, Kan., to Bernard H. and Rosanna (Millershaski) Kinkelaar.

Ben was a graduate of Dodge City High School and the University of Kansas. He enjoyed attending NHRA Drags and the Knoxville National Sprint car races. In his early years he and his older brother, Steve, would spend hours rebuilding old cars. He liked fishing, hunting, and being in the outdoors. Ben also like feeding the birds and tending his garden. These were both things that he and Mom enjoyed doing together in his backyard.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bernard, and brothers, Steve Kinkelaar and Mark Kinkelaar.

Survivors include his mother, Rosanna; brother, Rodney Kinkelaar (Diana); sisters, Donna Dauer (Norman) and Judy Schlotfeldt; and sister-in-law, Kay Kinkelaar.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N 8th St, Salina, Kan. Visitation will be the hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City, at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 15.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, care of Ryan Mortuary.

Joseph Aloysius Michael Dooley Jr. passed away Thursday, March 7th, 2024 at the age of 91. Joe was born on September 27, 1932 in Jersey City, New Jersey to Joseph and Elizabeth Grace (Ward) Dooley. Joe had older brothers, Kenny Ward and John Dooley, and sister, Betty Hilcken, and is survived by older sister, Grace Taylor and younger sister, Joan Russell. &nbsp;

Joe was married to Ella on January 22, 1955. They have three children, Patti Louise Dooley LeDuc and husband Jerry Leduc, Joseph Aloysius Michael Dooley III and wife Tammy Dooley, Peggy Lee Dooley Scheidegger and husband Ken Scheidegger.

They have seven grandchildren, Jason and Kevin Stegman, Joseph IV, Travis and Alayna Dooley, Taylor Scheidegger Carlberg and Brady Scheidegger, and six great grandchildren, Kemal and Serhan Stegman, Blake and Ethan Stegman, Drew Elliott, and Ella Carlberg.

Joe joined the Air Force in August 1951. When he was stationed at Schilling Air Force Base, he met his wife Ella. He graduated from Fort Hayes State University with his Bachelor degree in Industrial Arts and Mathematics. Joe had several career paths with many adventures. He was a life member with the VFW in Kinsley, KS. Joe retired from Schwan’s/Tony’s in 1997. After retiring, they moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas and spent time playing golf with newfound friends. After returning to Salina in 2008, he worked security at Hawker Beach. After retiring, he was an active YMCA member with his wife. Joe loved spending time with family, watching crime movies, spending time outside in the warm weather, and eating any type of candy or dessert. Joe was known for his sense of humor, even on his toughest days he found a way to make someone else smile or laugh. His personality, laugh, and love will be missed by all who knew him.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, March 15, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N 8th St, Salina, KS 67401.

William R. “Bill” Gillespie passed March 8, 2024 surrounded by family and friends and in the loving care of Home Health and Hospice of Dickinson County and Abilene Memorial Hospital staff who treated him like family. Bill was born March 16, 1949 in Marysville, Kansas the son of Robert U and Ethel E. (Brandt) Gillespie. After living briefly in Waterville, his family moved to Abilene and he attended local schools. After graduating Abilene High School in 1967, Bill’s work centered around his passion of cars and automotive repair including Sinclair/Ambulance Service for True Meserve, John’s Conoco (now John’s Service) for John Dunlap, Civil Service at Fort Riley, Service Manager at Green Ford, Owner of Bill’s Kerr McGee, and Owner of Bill’s Texaco. During retirement, he worked part-time for NAPA Auto Parts. In all of this work, he enjoyed being helpful and making friends along the way.

Bill enjoyed camping and boating, was a proud sponsor of youth baseball teams, was active in Masonic Lodge #559, was an ambassador for Isis Shrine, serving in the Clown Unit, and Member of Elks Lodge #1675. Bill attended the Demolition Derby reunion in 2014 and was proud to share his 1978 Championship stories with his grandkids.

Bill married Thelma Dolton in 1970, later divorcing. Bill married Cindy Atkinson in 1998. Bill is survived by son Rob Gillespie (Rhonda) of Lawrence and their children Jacob Gillespie and Jenna Gillespie; daughter Lori Wilson (Brad) of Tonganoxie and their children Brandon Wilson and Kate Wilson and his sister Lola Needham (Wade) of Abilene. He was preceded in death by two infant brothers, his parents, wife Cindy, and sister Charlotte (Reeves) Larson.

A Celebration of Life will be held March 17, 2024 from 2:00-4:00 PM at Abilene Senior Center, 100 N. Bobby Joe Leister passed away March 10th at age 83. He was born Oct. 27th 1940 to Robert Leister &amp; Lorene Buck Leister in Altus, Oklahoma. Bobby served 3 years in the military with 14 months in Korea. He married Mary Sue Spittles Dec. 2nd, 1961- later divorcing. To this union they had 4 Children. Scott, Abilene, Dirk (Alana) Wichita and Wendy Surritte (David) Abilene and a daughter Melissa who died at birth. Bobby married Harriet Welton Leister in 1974 gaining 3 stepchildren. Robert, Don and Danny Beeler.

Bobby spent 4 years as a Police officer and Fireman in Junction City, KS. He also owned a service station and was owner of Security Fence Company in JC from 1977-1986. He then went to work at Ft. Riley from 1986-2013 retiring as Union President. He did computer repair and worked on target devices.

Bobby was preceded in death by his daughter Melissa, late wife, sister MaryEllen and daughter-n-law Sherry, stepchildren Robert and Don Beeler. He is survived by his brother Gary (Theresa) Leister Chapman, Kansas, sister Sue Jasper Amarillo, TX his children and 5 Grandchildren Charlotte, Justin and Savannah Leister, Braydon and Dawson Surritte. Four step grandchildren, Daniel, Ana live in MO, Bobby Joe (FL) and Jason Pipes (April) of Abilene and 2 great granddaughters and several step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family has chosen cremation and graveside services will be at a later date at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery

Jerome "Jerry" Dale Benson September 19, 1939 ~ March 5, 2024

Jerome Dale Benson of Salina, Kansas passed away on March 5th 2024. Jerome or Jerry as he was called by those dearest to him, was born September 19th 1939 in Hadley, Minnesota, to Gladys and Oscar Benson.

Jerry was the 10th of 13 boys and was well loved for his wit, wisdom and deep devotion to those whom he loved. He committed his life to others by proudly serving as a Private First Class in the United States Marine Corp and eventually becoming a Substance Abuse Counselor after studying Psychology at Marymount College in Salina, Kansas. Jerry worked in the field for over 20 years during which time he met the love of his life Cynthia Moore Benson, who he lived with in Virginia Beach, Virginia until the time of her death.

In his free time Jerry loved to be outside and with loved ones.&nbsp; He spent time tending to his garden, going on cruises with his wife and taking fishing trips with family and friends. You could always catch him inside when his favorite football team, the Minnesota Vikings were on TV. Then he would cheer on the team with the same love and support he gave to his people each and everyday.

Jerome Dale Benson is preceded in death by his parents Gladys and Oscar Benson, his brothers Oscar Jr, Wally, Gordon, Moe, Bud, Jimmy, Ronnie, David, Roger, Bruce, Milo and Mike Benson. His first wife Sharon Ewen Benson, his son Mark Jerome Benson and second wife Cynthia Moore Benson. He is survived by his children Linda (Jay) Woodfield of Salina, KS, Allan Benson of Wichita, KS, Christina (Dan) Starcher of Salina, KS and his step daughter Shannon Collins of Virginia; his Grandchildren Kylie, Nick, and Megan Woodfield, James Benson, and Ryan Starcher; his great grand dogs Charlie, Holtby, Nugget, Tucker and Tukka.

Jerome will be honored with a visitation Tuesday March 12th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Rosewood–Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N Witchduck Rd, Virginia Beach, VA.

The family will also host a graveside service on Wednesday March 13th at 2:00 in the afternoon at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6309 E Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, VA 23502.&nbsp;

A Celebration of Life is being planned in Salina, Kansas, at a later date for those unable to attend services.

Roger Alvin Schulz November 21, 1935 ~&nbsp;March 7, 2024

Roger Alvin Schulz, 88, of Canton, KS, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 7, 2024, surrounded by his family at Pleasant View Home, Inman.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He was born on November 21, 1935, on the family farm north of Canton, KS, the son of Glen C. and Flossie M. (Rogers) Schulz.&nbsp; Roger was the great-great-great-grandson of August Schulz who&nbsp;homesteaded in Battle Hill township, McPherson County, Kansas in the late 1800s.&nbsp;&nbsp; He attended elementary school at the Battle Hill School House and graduated from Canton High School.&nbsp; On September 17, 1954, Roger was united in marriage to Geraldine “Geri” Kliewer in Canton, KS.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two sons, Rodney and Mitchell.&nbsp; Geri preceded Roger in death on January 2, 2022, after 67 years of marriage.&nbsp;

Roger was the owner of Gas Products, Mac County Gas, Schulz Oil &amp; Gas, Schulz Welding, and Canton Grocery, LLC.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Roger served in the United States Army and was a member of the Canton American Legion Post #192.&nbsp; He was also a member of Canton Community Church.

Survivors include: two sons, Rodney Schulz (Julie) and Mitchell Schulz (Karen), all of Canton, KS; siblings, Criss Schulz (Joan) of Topeka, KS and Carolyn Moddelmog (Keith) of California; five grandchildren, Jamie Schulz of Limassol, Cyprus, Dylan Schulz (Josie) of Canton, KS, Tyler Schulz (Taylor) of Park City, KS, Emily Brannon (Sam) of Canton, KS, and Sam Brannon of Canton, KS; five great-grandchildren, Iris, August, Leonidas, Blakely, and Elijah; and many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and siblings, Harold Schulz, Dean Schulz, Richard Schulz, and Virginia Tolle.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Thursday, March 14, 2024, at Canton Community Church.&nbsp; The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, March 15, at Canton Community Church with Pastor Mike Miller officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow at Canton Township Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be given to Canton Community Church or Canton Carnegie Library WWI Memorial in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.
