He was raised on the family farm in Morris County, the youngest of&nbsp; six children. He attended Alta Vista Elementary School and graduated from Council Grove High School in 1971. Larry spent most of his life as a carpenter and working the family farm with his dad, then owning the farm – farming and raising cattle.

Larry was predeceased by his parents and two brothers LeRoy Haag and Edwin Haag, two brothers-in-law Stan Meares and Dan Leary. He is survived by two sisters Carolyn Meares, Manhattan, Dee Leary, Emporia, one brother Mike Haag and wife Linda, Emporia, sister-in-law Barbara Haag, Emporia and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves a host of friends.

A visitation with family and friends will be held from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, and funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 7, both at Sawyer Funeral Home in Council Grove. Burial will follow at Alta Vista Cemetery.

Mary Jean was born October 20, 1932 to Timothy Vincent (TV) and Agnes (Bonfield) Harrington in Solomon. She spent her childhood in Solomon, graduating from Solomon High School in 1950. She then attended Marymount College for one year and worked at Commercial Credit in Salina. 

Mary Jean married Warren Wilson in August 1954 and settled on a farm south of Abilene to embark on her most important career, raising a family of eight children. She was also an active member in the community including St Andrews Catholic Church. 

After the kids were grown, new adventures with Warren included travel, their own Chisholm Trail Antique store, and board member of the Dickinson County Republican Women’s Club and Old Abilene Town.

Mary Jean is preceded in death by her parents, husband Warren, and dear infant daughter Jane. 

Survivors include sisters Bonnie Blyton, Lexington, KY; Betty Garrard, Winter Haven, FL; and Patricia Fadden, Palm Coast, FL; sons Mark and wife Teresa Wilson (Bryan, Chris, Devin), Greg and wife Marcia Wilson (Hannah, Hillary), David and wife Julie Wilson (John, Matt, Sarah), Evan and wife Annette (Kelly, Jordan) all of Abilene, Jeff and Nancy Wilson (Ben, Will, Jacob) of Lees Summit, MO; daughters Martha Strunk (Aaron, Kale, McKenzie) of Abilene, and Julie and Brent Milleson (Nolan, Alex), Owosso, OK. In addition to the 18 grandchildren, there are also 17 great-grandchildren plus nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 3, 2021 at St. Andrew Catholic Church of Abilene with Fr. Peter O’Donnell as celebrant. Parish rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m.., Saturday July 3 before Mass. Mary Jean’s final resting place will be Mt. St. Joseph Cemetery in Abilene. Family will receive friends Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home of Abilene.

Delene grew up and attended school in St. Helens, Oregon, graduating from high school.&nbsp; She was united in marriage to Steven R. Place and to this union one son and four daughters were born.

She lived most of her life in central Oregon in the towns of St. Helens, Newport, Bend, and Prineville. She moved to Formoso in September of 1998 to make her home.&nbsp;

Delene was a sales associate at the Concordia Walmart for 14 years.&nbsp; She was baptized and a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Newport, Oregon.

She was preceded in death by her husband Steven R. Place in 2005, and her sister Barbara Mae Williamson.

She is survived by her children:&nbsp; Susan Foster of Willow, Alaska, Steven E. Place of Formoso, KS; Carrie Place of Wasilla, Alaska, Lori Espinosa of Camas, Washington; and Tracie Shelfer of Granbury, Texas. She is also survived by many grand, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sisters Vickie Rae Stafford of Formoso, KS and Mickie Lynn Fox of Concordia, KS and other relatives.

Dean Elliott, the only son of Robert Arnold and Marie A. (Colwell) Elliott, was born on January 18, 1944 in McPherson, Kansas. Dean would never know his true father for he died while he was serving in the military during WWII in November of 1943 just a couple months before Dean’s birth. His mother, Marie, later was united in marriage to Paul Barker, the only dad Dean ever knew. He always thought he was lucky to have three sets of grandparents because other kids only had two. They all made him feel special when he was a little kid.

Dean attended Washington Grade School and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, Kansas in 1962. He then attended and graduated from McPherson College and had several jobs which all prepared him for his final job, selling insurance and real estate. On April 2, 1966, Dean was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Donna Sue Kaufman in McPherson at the First Mennonite Church. The young couple established their first home together in McPherson and this union was blessed with the birth of three children, one daughter and two sons. Jamie was born in 1969, followed by Christopher in 1973 and Andrew in 1977. Dean worked as a insurance agent and later became a Realtor for Century 21 Landmark, Co. owned by Wayne Holecek. Dean said one of the luckiest things that happened was to buy the insurance and real estate agency from some people that treated him like their own son. Dean later changed the name to Elliott Insurance and Real Estate. He was so proud of the fact that his sons followed in his footsteps and they were able to work side by side with them and they continue to serve McPherson the way he did. During those 34 years, he met some really nice people and made some good friends. Dean was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church in McPherson. He served on many different committees at the church and tried to take all the Bible studies that were offered. He also faithfully served on the opera house board and served as president, hospital board, was a Lions Club member serving as treasurer and president, and served on the McPherson College Board of Trustees. He received the Citation of Merit Award from McPherson College and he said he never could figure out why he got that award but he was proud of it. Dean was a Christian, loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and dear friend to many. His wise counsel, gentle but firm guidance, and gracious smile will be missed by those who knew and loved him. He was very proud of his children and always wanted the best for them. He was especially fond of his grandchildren and always looked forward to their visits and times they would share together. Dean enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, motorcycle riding, and going on many trips. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Clay County Highway Department for 39 years, retiring in 2019.&nbsp; Al also worked part time at Pamida and Kier’s.&nbsp; He was a member of the American Legion, Eagles Lodge and Elks Lodge. &nbsp;

He is preceded in death by his parents, great grandson, Brillyn; 3 sisters, Barbara Straub, Philomena Straub and Louise Hoffert; 3 brothers, Raphael, Delafield, and Arthur.

She attended Mt. Olive Grade School in the Clay County , and graduated from D.C.C.H.S. in 1943. She worked at the Sanborn Lumber Co. in Chapman for ten years. She was married to Gilbert C. Schlappy in June 26, 1947 at Memorial Home in Abilene, Kansas. They lived in Kansas City Missouri for 1 ½ years before returning to Chapman. 

She worked for Lang &amp; Gfeller accounting firm, Fort Riley Finance and Accounting, and John A. Strain CPA Firm. She became a CPA in 1962. She was a member of the Chapman United Methodist Church. 

She is survived by her son Ronald Gilbert Schlappy and wife Patricia of Minocqua, Wisconsin; two daughters: Melissa Kay Schlappy-Colborn (Steve) and Kristena Marie Schlappy, both of Chapman, Kansas; three granddaughters, Meagan Schlappy (Chris Turner), Melissa Tollefson (Tony) and Jessalyn Colbornt; two grandsons, Joe Wenger (Jessica) and Scott Colborn; two great-granddaughters, Kaylynn Schlappy and McKenzie Turner; two great-grandsons, Chase Turner and Walker Tollefson and numerous nieces and nephews as well as greats and extended family. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gib, brother Ray Harris, sisters Vera Boyd and Jean Davis.

Milan Levi Henne, 92, of Roxbury, KS, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at Lindsborg Community Hospital. He was born on November 12, 1928, in Roxbury, to Francis and Sarah (Hesher) Henne.

Milan graduated from Roxbury High School in 1946. He served in the United States Marine Corps, playing French horn in the First Marine Division Band. He was very proud to have marched in front of President Truman, and also in a Rose Bowl Parade. Milan attended Kansas State University, graduating in 1953.

He farmed for many years, operating a dairy north of Roxbury. Milan was also involved in banking for over 65 years, serving as director and chairman of the board of the Roxbury State Bank, and was a member of the Kansas Bankers Association 50 Year Club. 

He was a longstanding member of the Roxbury United Parish Church and served as treasurer, board chairman, and adult Sunday School teacher. 

Milan was also heavily involved in the community, serving on the boards of the Roxbury School, Lindsborg Community Hospital, and Dickinson County Rural Water District #2. In addition, Milan was a member of the Roxbury American Legion and read the names of veterans during the Memorial Day remembrance at the Valley View Cemetery in Roxbury for many years.

He married Nadine B. Ingram on June 1, 1952 in Canton, KS. She preceded him in death on November 22, 2015.

Survivors include: sister Verna Belle Forsberg; son Greg (Andrea), grandson Christopher (Brittainy), great-granddaughter Allison, granddaughter Megan (Travis) Limbocker; daughter Pam Kellogg, grandchildren Sarah (Jordan) Vogt and John; grandson Brandon Wolfe; son Brad (Maria), grandchildren Lara, Samuel, and Angel; son Stan (Jackie), grandchildren Aaron, Riley, and Kerri; daughter Karla (Greg) Girard, granddaughters Alayna and Elise; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife Nadine, Milan was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ivan, sister Delilah Ingram, and his daughter, Loretta Wolfe.

Visitation will be held Thursday, July 1, 2021, from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the Crick-Christians Funeral Home in Lindsborg, KS. 

Funeral services will be Friday, July 2, 2021, at 2 p.m. at Roxbury United Parish. Everyone is welcome.

On Saturday, June 26, 2021, Carolyn Kay Spencer entered Heaven’s Gate.&nbsp; She was born Carolyn Kay Shipman on February 15, 1944.&nbsp; Carolyn was the daughter of Orris and Audine (McCullough) Shipman.&nbsp; She was a 1962 graduate of Florence High School.&nbsp; She was united in marriage 59 years ago to Edmond Spencer on May 24, 1962.&nbsp; 

Carolyn, Edmond and their family have owned and operated the Town and Country Café in Florence for the last 25 years.&nbsp; She loved playing on her computer and enjoyed singing.&nbsp; Carolyn was the official grandchild spoiler and did a great job of it.&nbsp; She enjoyed cooking and fishing with the family.&nbsp; 

Carolyn and Edmond have three children:&nbsp; Matt Spencer, Eddie Spencer and Becky Spencer. She was like a mother to her “Daughters-in-Love" Darla Spencer and Kelley Spencer and son-in-law Bruce Fetrow.&nbsp; Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved her without exception:&nbsp; Dallas Wells, Kasey Orlik, Hunter Spencer, Kaylyn Spencer, Dakota Spencer, Shyla Harris, Shyann Harris, Lillianna Salamoni- Harris and Barrett Orlik.&nbsp; 

Carolyn was met in heaven by her parents, and numerous brothers and sisters.&nbsp; She gave love and received love from everyone who knew her and will be greatly missed and always loved.&nbsp;

Bobby (Bob) Marvin Allen was born October 1, 1935, in rural Clyde. Bobby was the fifth child of Vern Murray and Mary B. (Walker) Allen’s 11 children. On June 28, 2021, Bob departed this earthly life.

He attended country school until the family moved to Concordia, where he attended high school.

On May 25, 1956, he was united in marriage to Eva Robbins. Together they made their home in Concordia. To this union five children were born: David, Cindy, Ron, Michael (Bub), and Kenny.

Bob worked many years at Quartzite Stone in Concordia. The family then moved to Beloit, where Bob worked for Holloway Wholesale and Topeka Motor Freight. In 1970, the couple returned to Concordia, where Bob returned to work at Quartzite Stone. From 1977 until his retirement in 2004, Bob worked as a shear operator for Combustion Engineering. Upon retirement, Bob continued to spend time with and enjoy his family.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters: Marge McNeil, Margaret Brown, Marilyn Waters, Sharon Chritton, and Freda Predmore; five brothers: Jim, Harold, LaVern, Darrell, Larry, and great-grandson Maurice Robinson.

He is survived by his wife Eva of the home; children David, Cindy Dunlap, Ron (Kim), Michael (Ann), Kenny (Jennie), all of Concordia; 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Bob was a devoted family man who cared for his wife, children, foster children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He will be remembered for his quiet but strong influence.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 3, 2021 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia with Brad Stuefen officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia.&nbsp; Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, July 2, 2201 at the funeral home.&nbsp;

Sister Barbara Ellen Apaceller died June 26, 2021 at her home in Salina, KS.&nbsp; She was 75 years old and a Sister of St. Joseph for 56 years. 

&nbsp;She was born in Wittmannsdorf, Austria on June 5, 1946, to Sebastian and Barbara Assmann Apaceller, the second of three children, and was baptized Martha Elizabeth Stefanie.&nbsp; 

She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia, KS on September 8, 1964.&nbsp; In August 15, 1965, Martha received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister Barbara Ellen.&nbsp; She pronounced first vows on August 15, 1966 and final vows on August 15, 1971.

In 1970 Sister Barbara Ellen received her B.A. degree in theology from Marymount College, Salina, KS.&nbsp; She taught in Fairbury, NE.&nbsp; From 1976-1984 she was part of a pastoral ministry team in western Kansas.&nbsp; Sr. Barbara Ellen became the director of youth ministry for the Salina diocese in 1984 and remained in that position until her death.

Sister Barbara Ellen Apaceller was preceded in death by her parents.&nbsp; She is survived by two sisters, Anna Flaim of New Buffalo, MI and Linda Fregeau of Aurora, IL.

A bible vigil service will be held at 7:00 at Sacred Heart Cathedral at 118 N. 9th&nbsp;Street, Salina on June 30. The Sisters of St.&nbsp; Joseph and the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. &nbsp;A social will follow the wake service in the parish hall. &nbsp;All are invited to attend.&nbsp; 

The Mass of Christian Burial will be a private service for Sisters and family only at the Motherhouse with Father Don Zimmerman presiding and Fr. Bill Surmeier and Fr. Barry Brinkman concelebrating.&nbsp; Sister Vera Meis is the eulogist. The burial will be in the Nazareth Motherhouse Cemetery.&nbsp;

Rebecca “Becky” (Cosby) Clerisse, 76, passed on June 19, 2021 at Memorial Hospital in Abilene, Kansas. She was born on May 6, 1945 in Fort Scott, Kansas to Harley and Kathryn (Correll) Cosby. 

Becky graduated from Arkansas City, KS high school in 1963. In 1971 she moved to Orange County, California until she moved back to Kansas in 2004.

Her beloved husband, Al, the love of her life, of Lake Arrowhead, California preceded her in death, in 2003. She was also preceded her in death by her parents.

Becky was always known by her enthusiasm, joy, and her love of life. Her motto was laughter. She greatly influenced her nieces and nephew, Jennifer Wilson, Rebecca (Wilson) Diaz, Jeremy Cosby, Jessica (Cosby) Martinez and Justine Cosby, by sharing memorable journeys and activities with them. She also absolutely adored her pets.

Becky is survived by a son, Dr. Skyler McCurley, age 53, a pediatrician in Lynchburg, Virginia.

She will be missed by her sister Susan (Cosby) Wilson of Sterling Kansas and her brother Phillip “Flip” Cosby and wife Cathy of Abilene, Kansas. Susan and Philip were also graduates of Arkansas City High School.

She was born on May 6, 1945 in Fort Scott, Kansas to Harley and Kathryn (Correll) Cosby. Becky graduated from Arkansas City, KS high school in 1963. In 1971 she moved to Orange County, California until she moved back to Kansas in 2004.Her beloved husband, Al, the love of her life, of Lake Arrowhead, California preceded her in death, in 2003. She was also preceded her in death by her parents.Becky was always known by her enthusiasm, joy, and her love of life. Her motto was laughter. She greatly influenced her nieces and nephew, Jennifer Wilson, Rebecca (Wilson) Diaz, Jeremy Cosby, Jessica (Cosby) Martinez and Justine Cosby, by sharing memorable journeys and activities with them. She also absolutely adored her pets. Becky is survived by a son, Dr. Skyler McCurley, age 53, a pediatrician in Lynchburg, Virginia.She will be missed by her sister Susan (Cosby) Wilson of Sterling Kansas and her brother Phillip “Flip” Cosby and wife Cathy of Abilene, Kansas. SALINA, KS —&nbsp;John L. Zimmerman&nbsp;died on June 25, 2021, in Salina, KS, less than two weeks after celebrating his 96th birthday.&nbsp; John was born June 12, 1925, on a farm near Elsmore, KS, to John and Agnes (Alderman) Zimmerman.&nbsp; In his early teens after the death of his father, John moved along with his mother and his three sisters to Chanute, KS.&nbsp; He graduated from high school in Chanute, then enlisted in the United States Navy and was accepted into the V-5 naval aviation training program.&nbsp; He trained to fly Curtiss SB2C “Helldiver” dive bombers from aircraft carriers.&nbsp; World War II ended just as he was about to be deployed.

After discharge from the Navy, John attended college on the G.I. Bill, graduating from Kansas State University in 1949 with a degree in mechanical engineering.&nbsp; During his time at K-State, he worked as a houseboy at the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority where he met the love of his life, Patricia A. “Patsy” Davis from Salina, KS.&nbsp; 

His first job after college was with Salina Supply Company, where he worked in the heating and air conditioning engineering department and later as an outside salesperson.&nbsp; He married Patsy Davis on May 27, 1950.&nbsp; In 1957, Karl Davis, Patsy’s father and one of the company’s founders and president, suffered a severe stroke, and John took over company management.&nbsp; John retired from Salina Supply after 64 years with the company, 22 years as president. His son, Mark, now runs the company.

John and Patsy were blessed with four children, all of whom are K-State graduates.&nbsp; John and Patsy were married for 58 years. John spent great effort taking care of Patsy as she struggled with Alzheimer’s disease, which led to her death in 2008. &nbsp;

John was a strong supporter of Salina – he was proud to have served on the Salina Airport Authority, was a long-time Rotary member, and he and Patsy were charter members of Sunrise Presbyterian Church.&nbsp; John always loved to fly and was an active private pilot – with Patsy as co-pilot – until he reached age 70. He and Patsy impressed upon their children the value of supporting their communities with their time and resources.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Patsy, and his three sisters Ladine Lassman, Evelyn Procter and Virginia Smith.&nbsp; 

He is survived by his four children; Dave Zimmerman (Sharon), Towanda, KS, Ann Zimmerman (Dexter Eggers), Salina, KS, Mark Zimmerman (Dr. Carolyn Hofer), Salina, KS, and Jeff Zimmerman (Jane), Edmonds, WA; as well as 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life will be Saturday, August 14, 2021, 10:30 a.m. at Sunrise Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Martha Murchison officiating.&nbsp;

Patricia Lee Van Horne (Salem) Wilkinson&nbsp;died June 27, 2021, in Lawson, MO at the age of 90. She was born December 27, 1930, in Salina, Kansas.&nbsp; She was the daughter of Vaughn and Cleatice (Muller) Van Horne. &nbsp; After the death of her mother and brother in 1931, she was raised by her grandparents Fred and Ruth Van Horne.

In 1946 she became a member of Christ Episcopal Cathedral, Salina, KS and was a member from the age of 16 until her death.&nbsp; The Cathedral meant so much to her.

Pat was a homemaker and was active in Episcopal Christ Cathedral, PTA, and sorority. She worked for 28 years as a librarian clerk in Salina USD 305 elementary schools between 1970 and 1998. Many students knew her as Mrs. Salem.After retiring, Pat volunteered as the historian and later the official archivist for Christ Cathedral. Pat discovered many interesting facts about the early church and authored a book about Christ Cathedral titled “Christ Cathedral, A Priceless Heritage.” She was an expert on the stained-glass windows of the church, giving tours and lectures about them. Pat’s longtime church member and friend believes Pat is now trying to get her hands on the records of the early history of heaven. &nbsp; After Fred’s passing in 2001, she met and married Norman Wilkinson in 2002. She enjoyed discussing history and traveling with Norm. They remained married until Norm passed in 2008.In 2019 she moved to Lawson, MO to be closer to family. &nbsp; Also preceding her in death are her grandparents who raised her, Fred and Ruth Van Horne, father Vaughn Van Horne, mother Cleatice Van Horne; and brothers Bobby Dale Van Horne and Gary Neal Van Horne. &nbsp; She is survived by Linda Kary, Topeka, KS; Lisa (Rob) Smalley, Lawson, MO; Donna (Tom) Roughton, Austin, TX; a brother, Fred Van Horne, Hemet, CA; six beloved grandchildren John, Ryan, and Adam Kary, Mike and Chris Smalley, and Brianna Roughton; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; and also her cousin, who was more of a sister than a cousin, Verlene House Neuway. &nbsp; Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 8 at 2 p.m. at Christ Cathedral 138 S. 8th St., Salina, Kansas.
