Patrick C. Ziegler, 55, of Salina, passed away Monday, December 28, 2020. He was born in Salina, November 18, 1965, to Clarence and Eileen Ziegler. Pat graduated from Sacred Heart High School and Kansas Wesleyan University. He worked at Menards in Salina.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother Michael; sister, Carla. He is survived by his siblings, Randy (B. Eileen) Ziegler, of Russellville, AR, Marian McNally, of Salina, Rosalind (Rick) Lewis of Wamego, Cindy Ziegler, John Ziegler, all of Salina; sister-in-law, Pamela, of Hutchinson; girlfriend, Robin Jarrett of Parsons, and many nieces and nephews.

Pat loved KC Royals baseball and the KC Chiefs, live music of any kind, spending time outside, and a great steak. He was thoughtful, generous and kind, proud of his family and his hometown Salina. His favorite saying was "I gotta do everything!" And he would often outwork others around him. Pat had regained a new zest and appreciation for life after serious health problems earlier this year. He is very much loved and will be dearly missed.

Memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 19, 2021 at Sacred Heart Cathedral. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will precede the Mass at 9:30 a.m., with rosary at 10:40 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to Sacred Heart High School or Salina Friends of Shelter, in care of Ryan Mortuary, 137 North Eighth Street, Salina, Kansas 67401.

On January 26, 2021,&nbsp;Helen R. Tewes, 91, of Salina, was called home to be with our Lord and Savior. She was born in Kanapolis, KS to LM and Helen Herrington. After high school, Helen graduated from Salt City Business College in Hutchinson, KS.

She married Victor Horejsi on March 3, 1956 who passed away on February 2, 1967. Together they raised two sons: Jack and DJ. On October 16, 1976, she married Harvey Tewes who passed away on August 16, 2019. She was a long time member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, Salina, and active member of the LWML.

Survivors include Jack (Mary) Horejsi, Lexington, SC; DJ (Barb) Horejsi, Wichita, KS; Neil (Diane) Tewes, Prescott, AZ; Anita (Jim) Willoughby, South Jordan, UT; Dwight (Liz) Tewes, Durango, CO; eight grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; and siblings, Norman (Laurel) Herrington; Mary Jane Vondra; and Bill (Sharon) Herrington.

Memorial services will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 111 W. Magnolia Rd. Graveside services will follow at 2 p.m. in Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina.

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, teacher, friend, baseball fan, and public servant, Robert D. (Bob) Linder was at home in Manhattan, Kansas when he left this earth to be with his Lord early Easter Sunday morning 4 April 2021 at the age of 87. Born in Salina, Kansas, on 6 October 1933, he was the first of Orel Andrew Linder and Minnie Izetta Bickel Linder’s four boys. The Great Depression, which presented his working-class family with many hardships, was no indication of what future his talents, intellect, and hard work would produce, but the circumstances of his humble beginnings were a powerful force that would inform his perspective; the expansive, creative spirit of the Great Plains would never leave him. With faith in God, a good sense of humor, and a keen, curious mind, Linder was blessed with a rich life filled with family, friends, baseball, and scholarly adventure. From a young age, Linder developed a love for baseball, an interest he shared with his father who once, at great cost, took young Bobby on an overnight bus ride to see the St. Louis Cardinals play, then the closest professional team, where he cheered on Stan the Man Musial and other heroes of the day. He returned to organize his local neighborhood team into serious ball players by having them each sign a contract committing to a fee of 1 cent if they missed a practice. Linder excelled at sports during his high school days, setting track records and wrestling for Salina High School, from which he graduated in 1951. He also continued perfecting his game of baseball, playing with zeal and at a standard that put him on the path of playing professionally, but eventually turning down a Triple A contract with the White Sox to attend college. He would never fully leave his love of baseball behind and even taught a hugely popular course on the History of Baseball in American Culture, gave talks at Society for American Baseball Research conferences, and always enjoyed attending Kansas City Royals games, and spring training camps, especially in his latter years. After high school, Linder moved to Chicago to receive Biblical training at Moody Bible Institute, the institution he credited for developing his ability to write well; on the side, he washed windows part-time in downtown Chicago, amongst other jobs, to make ends meet. After his stint in Chicago, he returned to Kansas where he was awarded scholarships to study for his BS in Education with an emphasis in History from Kansas State Teachers College, now Emporia State University, earning his degree in 1956. While at college in Emporia, he discovered his passion for history and met and married his wife of 63 years, Jean Ann Burch. Around this time, while exploring different career paths, he also earned a couple of seminary degrees. From Emporia, he went on to the University of Iowa from where he obtained an MA and PhD in History in l960 and l963, respectively. In this period of his life, he also served in the US Army Reserves for eight years, retiring with the rank of Captain. Linder began his teaching career at William Jewell College, Liberty, Missouri, in l963. In l965, he joined the History Department at Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas, where he went on to teach for more than 50 years. In 2003, he was named University Distinguished Professor of History and retired, Emeritus, in 2018. His years of post-doctoral study while on sabbatical, first at Oxford University, England in 1974 and again at Cambridge University, England in 1986, were among some of the happiest times of his life, particularly his days in Oxford when his family was alongside him and where on weekends they explored the nooks and crannies of the country’s storied castles, haunted places, and battlefields, and he enjoyed multiple trips to the European continent driving as far as from Oxford to Moscow by car. During his lifetime he wrote and published extensively in the fields of religion and politics, writing or editing 17 books and publishing more than one hundred scholarly papers and articles. His latest major project, a seminal work on the history of Evangelicals in Australia which he co-authored with Australian scholar, Stuart Piggin, was the culmination of 30 years of research and parts of multiple decades spent on the continent Down Under. Published in two volumes (2018 and 2020) the book has received critical acclaim. During his time there, Linder developed many close and enduring relationships with his Australian counterparts. He loved the Out Back as he did the Great Plains and acquired the nickname “Crocodile Bob.” A lifelong educator, Linder was also a public servant. Elected to the Manhattan City Commission in 1969 and again in 1975, he served two four-years terms that included two stints as mayor of the city. Among his proudest accomplishments on the city commission were his successful negotiations with Union Pacific Railroad in Omaha, Nebraska to secure the railroad right of way for the city to build what is now Ft. Riley Blvd., his advocacy for the location of Manhattan Town Center in its current location to re-anchor the downtown as the city began to expand westward, and his work to desegregate the city cemetery in the 1970s. Issues of community and working for social justice were always high on his agenda. Linder may be best known for his passion for teaching, drive for excellence, and unquenchable thirst for knowledge which he felt compelled to share with the tens of thousands of students who passed through his many classes, a great number of whom he regarded as true friends. He also was known for and fond of saying, “the more you know, the more you know!!” His most precious treasure, however, was his family to whom he was dedicated, and his grace-filled wife who was his source of strength and north star. He was immensely proud of his children and grandchildren and missed them greatly whenever they were out of his presence. Alfred (Al) Havel, 93, died April 8, 2021.&nbsp; He was born October 20, 1927, the fourth child of Alfred and Matilda (Klaumann) Havel.&nbsp; 

Survivors are daughters Nita and husband Steve Newby, Sharon and husband Steve Larrick, son-in-law Carl Matousek, grandchildren Nathan Newby, Gloria Busenitz (Cody), Arlan Newby, Kara Hoegerl, Lydia Vazquez (Manuel), Kelcie Matousek, and Austin Hoegerl, five great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Warren Anderson, sister-in-law Faye and husband Leon Hagan, brother-in-law Roland McKee, and nieces and nephews.&nbsp; Preceding him in death were his parents, parents-in-law William and Agnes Anderson, his wife, Phyllis, daughter Eileen Matousek, brother Virgil and his wife Alice (Sis), sisters Marcella (George) Thompson, Marjorie (Glenn) Bodin, Blanche (Gerald) Stanton, and Viola (Harold) Hedstrom, sisters-in-law Carrol Anderson, Ethelyn Lambott, and Wilda McKee, and eight brothers-in-law.

Upon graduation from Cuba, Kansas High School in 1944, Al enrolled in the telegraphy course at Chillicothe Business College, and in January 1945 was employed by the Rock Island Railroad as an agent-operator at Esbon, KS during World War II.&nbsp; At 18 years of age he entered military service in April, 1946 with the Army Air Corps and spent a year in Japan assigned to the 6th&nbsp;Night Fighter Squadron at Yokota Air Base and later to the 339th&nbsp;Night Fighter Squadron as a clerk-typist at base headquarters at Johnson Air Base, Tachikawa, Japan.&nbsp; &nbsp;After completing his military service in September 1947, Al was employed as an office clerk at the Deshler, NE broom factory until a fire partially destroyed the factory in late December 1947. He then became a self-employed farmer-stockman in Republic County and also drove a school bus for 30 years for Belleville schools.

On August 2, 1953, Al was married to Phyllis Anderson at Agenda, KS and they became parents of Eileen, Nita, and Sharon.&nbsp; 

He was an active member of United Methodist churches in Agenda and Belleville.&nbsp; He taught youth and adult Sunday school classes, sang in the choir, did lay speaking, and served on many of the church’s boards and committees.&nbsp; One of his most enjoyable activities was singing in two male quartets which were accompanied by his wife, Phyllis, at Agenda and Belleville.&nbsp; 

Al’s hobbies included woodworking, restoring antique furniture, making quilts for each grandchild, gardening, floriculture, and arranging home-grown and wild flowers which won many awards at the NCK Fair.&nbsp; He and Phyllis chose dancing as one of their recreations, an activity they pursued as long as they were physically able.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 17, 2021, at the First United Methodist Church, Belleville, KS with Rev. Sang Hak Lee, officiating.

Interment will follow at the Belleville cemetery, Belleville, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Visitation with the family greeting friends will be one hour prior to the services at the First United Methodist Church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time.

 </figure><a href="https://www.bachelor-surber.com/obituary/AlfredAl-Havel">Obituary for Alfred "Al" Havel | Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home (bachelor-surber.com)</a>October 20, 1927 - April 8, 2021Visitation with the family greeting friends will be one hour prior to the services at the First United Methodist Church, Belleville, KS on Saturday-10 a.m. -11 a.m.The service will be&nbsp;lived streamed via the First United Methodist Church, Belleville, Kansas, Facebook page.&nbsp;Alfred (Al) Havel, 93, died April 8, 2021.&nbsp; He was born October 20, 1927, the fourth child of Alfred and Matilda (Klaumann) Havel.&nbsp; Survivors are daughters Nita and husband Steve Newby, Sharon and husband Steve Larrick, son-in-law Carl Matousek, grandchildren Nathan Newby, Gloria Busenitz (Cody), Arlan Newby, Kara Hoegerl, Lydia Vazquez (Manuel), Kelcie Matousek, and Austin Hoegerl, five great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Warren Anderson, sister-in-law Faye and husband Leon Hagan, brother-in-law Roland McKee, and nieces and nephews.&nbsp; Preceding him in death were his parents, parents-in-law William and Agnes Anderson, his wife, Phyllis, daughter Eileen Matousek, brother Virgil and his wife Alice (Sis), sisters Marcella (George) Thompson, Marjorie (Glenn) Bodin, Blanche (Gerald) Stanton, and Viola (Harold) Hedstrom, sisters-in-law Carrol Anderson, Ethelyn Lambott, and Wilda McKee, and eight brothers-in-law.Upon graduation from Cuba, Kansas High School in 1944, Al enrolled in the telegraphy course at Chillicothe Business College, and in January 1945 was employed by the Rock Island Railroad as an agent-operator at Esbon, KS during World War II.&nbsp; At 18 years of age he entered military service in April, 1946 with the Army Air Corps and spent a year in Japan assigned to the 6th&nbsp;Night Fighter Squadron at Yokota Air Base and later to the 339th&nbsp;Night Fighter Squadron as a clerk-typist at base headquarters at Johnson Air Base, Tachikawa, Japan.&nbsp; &nbsp;After completing his military service in September 1947, Al was employed as an office clerk at the Deshler, NE broom factory until a fire partially destroyed the factory in late December 1947. He then became a self-employed farmer-stockman in Republic County and also drove a school bus for 30 years for Belleville schools.On August 2, 1953, Al was married to Phyllis Anderson at Agenda, KS and they became parents of Eileen, Nita, and Sharon.&nbsp; He was an active member of United Methodist churches in Agenda and Belleville.&nbsp; He taught youth and adult Sunday school classes, sang in the choir, did lay speaking, and served on many of the church’s boards and committees.&nbsp; One of his most enjoyable activities was singing in two male quartets which were accompanied by his wife, Phyllis, at Agenda and Belleville.&nbsp; Al’s hobbies included woodworking, restoring antique furniture, making quilts for each grandchild, gardening, floriculture, and arranging home-grown and wild flowers which won many awards at the NCK Fair.&nbsp; He and Phyllis chose dancing as one of their recreations, an activity they pursued as long as they were physically able.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 17, 2021, at the First United Methodist Church, Belleville, KS with Rev. Ronald Dale Everett, age 77, of Abilene passed away April 8, 2021 at Memorial Hospital. He was born in Abilene, Kansas June 1, 1943 and has been a resident all his life. 

He graduated from Abilene High School in 1962. He was a truck driver for Dautel Trucking and driver/owner for Everett’s Inc. He served in the Army Reserves from 1964-1970. He was married to Bertha Jean (Hines) Everett June 4, 1966. He enjoyed his family and friends and taking care of his yard. 

He is survived by his wife Jeannie Everett of Abilene. Daughter, LeAnn Everett of Kansas City, son, Chad Everett of Salina, brother, Dennis Everett (Doreen) of Abilene, sister-in-laws Lola Everett of Abilene, Chris Haas Halstead. Grandchildren, Dalton Millican (Samantha) of Chapman, Aidan Everett of Newton, Chase Everett of Abilene and Kayla Everett of Newton. Great-Grandchildren, Camdyn, Colsyn, Charlie Marie and Hazel Annalyn and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dorothy Ann Engelbert Kolarik was born on August 5, 1928 on her parent’s farm north of Beloit, KS to Louis Engelbert and Elizabeth Bailey Engelbert.&nbsp; She departed this life on April 8, 2021 in her home where she lived her entire life.&nbsp; She attended St. John’s Catholic schools and graduated in 1946.&nbsp; On November 25, 1948 she married John F. Kolarik and they made their home on the family farm.&nbsp; They enjoyed 61 wonderful years together.&nbsp; To this union three daughters were born.

After high school graduation she went to work at the office of the Register of Deeds from 1946 to 1950.&nbsp; In 1957 she went to work for SRS (welfare office) and left there in 1980 to go to work for Gourley Ford Motor Company where she worked until she retired in 1985.

Dorothy began sewing at an early age making doll clothes on a Singer treadle sewing machine.&nbsp; She loved making clothes for herself, her daughters, her husband John, all of her grandsons and frilly dresses for all of her granddaughters.&nbsp; She made all three of her daughters’ wedding dresses, the bridesmaids' dresses, and her dress for each of the weddings.&nbsp; There wasn’t anything she couldn’t sew.&nbsp; She also loved to crochet, knit, and embroidery and when the girls were little she made and knitted a lot of doll clothes.&nbsp;

After she retired, she started sewing and embroidering quilt tops and hand quilting them.&nbsp; She was a member of the St. John’s Quilters.&nbsp; She made over 100 quilts and has given most of them away to family members, auctions, and raffles.&nbsp; One of her butterfly quilts brought $2,500 at the St. John’s School Auction in Beloit.&nbsp; She was a featured quilter for the 2016 Piecemakers’ annual quilt show at the Miltonvale Tootlefest.&nbsp;

Dorothy was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church where she was involved in the Ladies Guild.&nbsp; She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary.&nbsp;

After John retired, they enjoyed traveling around the United States and saw all but four of the fifty states.&nbsp; They also spent a week every year at Branson, MO, where they enjoyed the shows and attractions.&nbsp; Dorothy and John loved to dance and were members of the Waconda Swingin’ Squares Square Dance Club until they disbanded.&nbsp; Then they started attending the Jolly Mixers in Salina on Wednesday nights.

In 2011 Dorothy suffered a stroke which affected her hand and leg but she did not let it get her down.&nbsp; She received therapy where she was motivated to work hard so she could get back to her sewing and quilting.&nbsp; The therapy department was so impressed with her progress and motivation that they made an infomercial highlighting her rapid recovery.

Preceding her in death was her husband John of 61 years, her parents, her brother Francis Engelbert, and a beloved granddaughter Jennifer Gelnar.&nbsp;

She will be deeply missed by her three daughters, Kathleen Gelnar and husband Roy of Granite, Oklahoma, Deborah Halepeska and husband Brent of Miltonvale, Kansas, and Patricia Downing of Bennington, Kansas; &nbsp;eight grandchildren, Danielle (Gelnar) Roberts, Jacqueline (Gelnar) Grimes, Pamela (Gelnar) Esparza, Matthew Gelnar, Nathan Halepeska, Megan (Halepeska) Grams, Jacob Downing, and Rebecca Downing; and thirteen great-grandchildren, Macy Roberts, Ava, Aubrey, and Addilyn Grimes, Gavin, Gwendolyn, Dalton, and Chloe Esparza, Brianna and Henry Gelnar, Eli, Seth, and Levi Grams and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 12 at the St. John's Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the Roberts Family Funeral Home, and a rosary service will be at 5 p.m. Sunday at the church. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Cornerstone Foundation, St. John's Memorial Trust Fund, Solomon Valley Hospice, or Hilltop Lodge.

Dale Herman Nielsen, 94, of Dunlap, passed away April 6, 2021.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born to N.H. (Herman) and Margarethe Nielsen on their farm near Americus, on June 24, 1926. After moving to a farm near Dunlap, he attended the Dunlap Schools.

Growing up during the Great Depression, hard work and sacrifice was the norm.&nbsp;&nbsp;He loved the outdoors and farmed as long as health permitted.&nbsp;&nbsp;He also worked for Western Grain Mill and drove trucks, not leaving much idle time for the fishing he enjoyed.

He, along with friends and neighbors were instrumental in starting the Dunlap Volunteer Fire Department and helped with many fundraising activities through the years.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was also a charter member of the Neosho Valley 4-H club, remaining involved in various project leadership roles as an adult.

He married a school teacher, Frances Cleveland, and they had four children: Darrel, Karen, David and Kala.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, wife Frances in 1977, brothers: Chris and Ray and sister Esther Griffith. He is survived by his children: Darrel (Janice) Nielsen, of Dunlap, Karen (John) Bishop, of Emporia, David Nielsen, of Dunlap and Kala (Mike) Wengler, of Aurora, NE; six grandchildren; several great-grandkids, who affectionately called him G.P. Pa; sisters: Elsie Anderson, of Americus, Mary Keen, of Edmond, OK and Dorathy Ratcliff, of Durant, OK; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Private graveside services will be held at a later date.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Brian Scott Mason was taken from his loved ones on Easter morning, Sunday, April 4, 2021, at his home in Concordia, Kansas. He was 53. He was born on Friday, March 22, 1968, to John and Carol (Shively) Mason. He also had a brother John to greet him when he came home.

Brian had a great love for all of nature, especially for all of his dogs. He loved planting flowers and working in his garden, which was always producing voluminous vegetables. While in high school he showed his artistic flair and had painted several pictures of nature. In his later years he took up photography and loved taking pictures in Kansas of fields of sunflowers, old houses, and the like. He played baseball as a youngster and all the way through high school; he was exceptionally fast and very good. He loved watching all the professional sports, especially his beloved Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies. He had a great love for music; his room was always filled with it. He had an abundance of friends. Everyone he met or worked with loved him. His high school friends always tried to stay in contact with him. He will be greatly missed by everyone.

He leaves behind his parents, his brother, his three sons Dylan, Jacob, and Ryan, and his special love, Sarah Cook, and her children Bethany, Tommy, Ashleigh, and Charlotte, plus a grandbaby, Tommy.

He was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents: Carl and Jessie (Vicary) Mason, and Ted and Elsie (Upp) Shively.

The family selected cremation and his ashes will be brought back to Colorado by his brother and friends.

Alberta married Theodore H. Paramore of Delphos, July 19, 1941.&nbsp; Their life together was short, as Theodore passed away March 27, 1965.&nbsp;

Alberta was a homemaker and very actively involved with the activities of the First Presbyterian Church.&nbsp; Alberta was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge, Ladies Auxiliary Patriarch Militant., Fortnightly Federated Club and the Native Daughters of Kansas.

Survivors include her&nbsp;brother; William B. Hare of Concordia, and many nieces and nephews.

Per Alberta’s request there will be no visitation.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 12, 2021 at the First Roselawn Heights Memorial Chapel, 1920 E. Crawford, Salina.

Burial will take place at the Delphos Cemetery, K-41 Highway, east of Delphos following the service.

Derek Scott Whitesell, 45, was born Friday, May 16, 1975 in Salina to Carl and Cathy (French) Whitesell.&nbsp; He passed away Monday, April 5, 2021.&nbsp;

Derek was raised in Bennington and was a graduate of B.H.S. In March of 1996, he started working for APAC in Salina and in April 2018 he became a foreman to his milling crew. He was on his 25th&nbsp;year of being employed with APAC.

Derek loved his family and the time he spent with them on holidays and other special occasions.&nbsp; He would do anything for anyone – family or stranger.&nbsp; Derek couldn’t go anywhere without seeing someone he knew.&nbsp; He loved being outside.&nbsp; Dirt work, working on demolition cars, hunting, and racing were just a few of his hobbies.

Derek is survived by his parents, Doug and Cathy Hogan of Minneapolis; sister, Delaina List of Solomon; daughter, Sarah (Nathan) Armstrong of Fort Riley; grandsons, Isaiah Armstrong and Ezra Armstrong (due in September); nephews, Scott Berry of Solomon, Justin (Emily) Berry of Solomon, and Devin (Reagan) Dame of Salina; and great nieces and nephews, Ethan, Jetta, Jordin, Kaydence, Brynlee, Raelynn, and Sawyer.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, April 12 at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 13 at the Bennington Bible Church, Bennington.&nbsp;

In March of 1996, he started working for APAC in Salina and in April 2018 he became a foreman to his milling crew. He was on his 25th&nbsp;year of being employed with APAC.Derek loved his family and the time he spent with them on holidays and other special occasions.&nbsp; He would do anything for anyone – family or stranger.&nbsp; Derek couldn’t go anywhere without seeing someone he knew.&nbsp; He loved being outside.&nbsp; Dirt work, working on demolition cars, hunting, and racing were just a few of his hobbies.Derek is survived by his parents, Doug and Cathy Hogan of Minneapolis; sister, Delaina List of Solomon; daughter, Sarah (Nathan) Armstrong of Fort Riley; grandsons, Isaiah Armstrong and Ezra Armstrong (due in September); nephews, Scott Berry of Solomon, Justin (Emily) Berry of Solomon, and Devin (Reagan) Dame of Salina; and great nieces and nephews, Ethan, Jetta, Jordin, Kaydence, Brynlee, Raelynn, and Sawyer.Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, April 12 at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00. Dr. Ann Elizabeth Liston, 83, formerly of Hays, died Saturday, March 27, 2021, at Wilson Care and Rehab in Wilson, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born August 6, 1937, and considered Harlan, Iowa, her hometown.

Ann earned her master’s degree from Michigan State University, was a fan of Spartan football and left her collection of American needlework (one of her areas of specific study) to MSU.&nbsp; Ann received her doctorate from Ohio State University.

She joined the faculty at Fort Hays State University in 1968 where she spent her entire career. She was a professor of history, an advisor, and retired as chair of her department.&nbsp; While at FHSU, Ann served on many committees, including the department scholarship committee, and she sponsored Phi Alpha Theta, a history honor society. &nbsp;She supported student involvement in the Ellis County Historical Society and served as curator of history at FHSU’s Sternberg Museum of Natural History.&nbsp;Ann also was a member of the Kansas Humanities Council Speakers Bureau.&nbsp;In the community, she was a Hays Public Library board member, an active participant in Friends of the Library, and encouraged library music programs. &nbsp; Ann was a member of the Hays Medical Center Auxiliary.&nbsp;She also led book discussions, part of the Talk About Literature in Kansas program of the humanities council.

Ann was an avid fan of jazz and other forms of music and, according to the musicians she knew, a great listener.&nbsp; Musicians and teachers&nbsp;Brad Dawson and Luke Johnson from the Hays area showed their appreciation by playing at Ann's birthday celebrations at Wilson Care and Rehab.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Ann’s father, Glen Liston, was a journalist, photographer and newspaper editor.&nbsp; Her mother, Mildred, was highly educated at a time when it was unusual for women.&nbsp; She taught home economics, currently Family and Consumer Science.

Survivors include friends Kate Dutton Coddington&nbsp;of Wamego, Kansas; Elaine Garrison&nbsp;of Kansas City, Missouri; and former students and colleagues at FHSU.

Honorary pallbearers are Richard "Junior" Brown; Dr. David Goodlett;&nbsp;Andrew Warren; Gerald Spaits; Ben Markley; and Clint Ashlock.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Ann’s longtime partner, the late “Frank” (Francis) Windholz, rests in the Gorham, Kansas, cemetery.&nbsp; Ann’s brother Philip, sister Susan, and their parents also preceded Ann in death.

Per her request, Ann has been cremated.&nbsp; While circumstances do not allow for a service now, a musical celebration of Ann’s life is planned for early August. &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Lena enjoyed gardening and tending her flower beds, canning vegetables from her garden, late night board and card games, watching Nascar racing, listening to music and spending time with her friends and family. Lena Denise Larson was united in marriage to Craig Allison on May 11, 1985 in McPherson, Kansas. The couple established their first home together in McPherson. This union was blessed with the birth of two children, Jennifer and Jarod. Gerald Edward “Fuzzy” Weyand, 84, passed away Saturday, April 3, 2021, at his residence in Russell. He was born December 20, 1936 in Galva, KS to Herbert and Bertha (Ollek) Weyand. Gerald attended and graduated from Lehigh High School in 1954.

Gerald was introduced to a Stormont Vail nursing student, Freda Mae Duffey, by his brother. They were married September 20, 1958 and made their home in Norton. Gerald and Freda enjoyed 62 years of marriage until her death in August 2020, after which he moved to Russell to be closer to family.

Gerald took great pride of his service in the Navy, always replying “It was my honor and privilege” when total strangers would thank him for his service. You never saw him out and about without his trusted Navy cap on.

Gerald worked for the Kansas Highway Patrol for 36 years, retiring in 1998. He and Freda spent much of their retirement attending every band concert, school program, and baseball, football, volleyball, and softball game of their grandkids that they could. They also found time to hit a few casinos in between! A highlight was an Alaskan cruise with Freda’s brother and sisters.

Survivors who will miss him dearly are his children, Carla (Richard) Miller of Russell, Curt (Michelle) Weyand of Manhattan, and Craig (Misty) Weyand of Salina; grandchildren: Ryan Miller, Rylee Miller, Corey Weyand, and Connor Weyand; great-grandchildren: Haley, Hunter, Paisley, Harlie and Chloe.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Friday, April 9, 2021 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Norton. Burial will be at 2:00 pm Friday, April 9 at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery at WaKeeney. Mary Elizabeth "Beth" Sankey of Belleville, KS, age 82, died September 30, 2020 at the Belleville Health Care Center, Belleville, KS. She was born on September 10, 1938 to Norbert and Margaret Habiger in Concordia, KS. She was raised in Republic, Kansas and graduated from Republic High School in 1956. Beth continued her education at Fort Hays State University and completed her Bachelor of Science in education from Kansas University in 1960.

She married Don LeRoy Sankey on August 20, 1960 and taught in the Munden School District for one year. Soon after, the couple moved to Republic where Don opened his own repair shop, and welcomed the arrival of Ronald, born on June 18, 1961. When Ron was in first grade, Beth went back to work teaching in the Republic schools and taught kindergarten for one year and then transferred to high school English. She directed many plays during her teaching career in Republic and enjoyed her students greatly.

Republic was home for the Sankeys for many years. Both Beth's parents, Norb and Margaret, Don's parents, John and Edna Sankey, and brother and sister-in-law Norman and Helen Sankey were within shouting distance, not to mention, aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless dear friends. The couple loved to entertain.&nbsp;

In 1970 the couple purchased the Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep dealership in Belleville, called Sankey Motors. She continued teaching and also kept books for the dealership for several years and they moved to Belleville in 1993. Her favorite pastime was reading, but coming close were knitting, cross-stitching, sewing and crafting.&nbsp; Her bridge club, known as the "Mothers' Night Out" group, enjoyed years of entertainment at their husbands' expense.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and one brother, Jim Habiger.

Survivors include son Ron and wife Lori of Garden City, granddaughter Jade Sankey of Jacksonville, FL, and grandson and wife Jon and Nikki Sankey and great-granddaughter Millie Sankey of Panama City Beach, FL, two sisters-in-law Joan Sankey Free of Cleveland, OK, and Jeanette Habiger of Shell Knob, MO, in addition to four nieces and one nephew.

Memorials are requested to the NCK Healthcare Foundation or the Belleville Public Library and may be sent in care of the funeral home.

Graveside services will be held at Lake Cemetery in Republic on Saturday, April 10, 2021, at 11:00 a.m.

Soon after, the couple moved to Republic where Don opened his own repair shop, and welcomed the arrival of Ronald, born on June 18, 1961. When Ron was in first grade, Beth went back to work teaching in the Republic schools and taught kindergarten for one year and then transferred to high school English. She directed many plays during her teaching career in Republic and enjoyed her students greatly.Republic was home for the Sankeys for many years. Both Beth's parents, Norb and Margaret, Don's parents, John and Edna Sankey, and brother and sister-in-law Norman and Helen Sankey were within shouting distance, not to mention, aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless dear friends. The couple loved to entertain.&nbsp;In 1970 the couple purchased the Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep dealership in Belleville, called Sankey Motors. She continued teaching and also kept books for the dealership for several years and they moved to Belleville in 1993. Her favorite pastime was reading, but coming close were knitting, cross-stitching, sewing and crafting.&nbsp; Her bridge club, known as the "Mothers' Night Out" group, enjoyed years of entertainment at their husbands' expense.She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and one brother, Jim Habiger.Survivors include son Ron and wife Lori of Garden City, granddaughter Jade Sankey of Jacksonville, FL, and grandson and wife Jon and Nikki Sankey and great-granddaughter Millie Sankey of Panama City Beach, FL, two sisters-in-law Joan Sankey Free of Cleveland, OK, and Jeanette Habiger of Shell Knob, MO, in addition to four nieces and one nephew.Memorials are requested to the NCK Healthcare Foundation or the Belleville Public Library and may be sent in care of the funeral home.Graveside services will be held at Lake Cemetery in Republic on Saturday, April 10, 2021, at 11:00 a.m.Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home of Belleville is assisting the family, www.tibbettsfischerfuneralhome.com.To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Mary E.
