Arlene Bassett went the be with the Lord on August 2, at the age of 96. With the Lord in heaven, her body and mind have been restored. She died of complications of age.
Arlene was born in Portis, Kansas on May 1, 1925. She was the daughter of Paul and Wilma (Brumbaugh) Rollins. Her mother was from Portis, Kansas and her father was from Cawker City, Kansas. She graduated from Portis High School.
She was united in marriage to Donald Bassett on August 22, 1948 in Lebanon, Kansas. They were married for 55 years. They moved to Salina in 1950 and lived there the rest of their lives.
Survivors include her adoring sons Paul Bassett (Cindi) and Bradley Bassett (Nancy); sister Sharon Rorabaugh; brothe, Max Rollins (Shirley); brother-in-law John Patterson; five beautiful grand-children, Gabriel Bassett, Simeon Bassett, Matthew Bassett, Hannah Bassett, and Dylan Bassett. She has three great-grandchildren, Oliver, Coralee and Adabelle Bassett. She took them all separately to Washington, DC. to see the capitol when they were 12. She and Don, their grandfather, funded their college educations. She loved each one of us.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Wayne Bassett and sister, Peggy Patterson.
Arlene was an exemplary Christian, sister, wife, mother, teacher, friend, grandmother, and quilter.
She attained her teaching degree from Marymount College and began teaching fourth grade, which she did for over 20 years. She was named a Master Teacher in Salina. She received her masters degree in education from Kansas State University.
After she retired, she was a substitute teacher, became an award-winning quilter, and a pretty good bridge player. She was also an avid reader. She was part of the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program in Salina for several years.
Most of all, she enjoyed her family and grandchildren. She loved having extended family dinners at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
She attended the Salina Bible Church throughout her adult life. She lived her faith in the Lord, Jesus Christ as her savior. She loved to study the bible and follow the teaching of Jesus. She spent her final years in Eagle Crest Retirement
Center. Her family is thankful for the loving care she received there. She was the best mother anyone could hope to have.
Visitation is at 12 p.m., Monday, August 9, 2021 at Faith Bible Church, 2100 Quincy, Salina. Funeral will follow at 1 p.m. at the church. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 1920 E. Crawford, Salina.
