Melvin D. Zade, 87 years of age, formerly of Mankato, passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at the Republic County Hospital, Belleville, Kansas. He was born on September 25, 1933 in, Kansas to William and Ethel (Plank) Zade.

He was a 1951 graduate of Mankato High School, Mankato, Kansas.

Melvin served in the United States Army and was based in Germany. He was honorably discharged.

Melvin married Betty June Long on August 13, 1956. To this union two children were born, Dewaine and Susan.

Melvin worked for the Jewell County Highway Department, where he was a foreman on the bridge crew. He retired in 1987 after more than 30 years of service.

He enjoyed working on cars and tinkering in his garage, but most of all spending time with his family, friends, beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived his wife Betty Zade of Belleville; son Dewaine Zade (Mechele), Hastings, NE; and their son, Dan Zade (Brittany) and their children, Emma, Elizabeth, and William; daughter, Susan Zade, Wichita, KS; and her three children, Christina, Tyler, Phyllip.

He was preceded in death by his parents William and Ethel, and brother Earl Zade.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 20, 2021 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Melby Mortuary, Mankato, Kansas.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 21, 2021 at the Christian Church of Mankato, Mankato, Kansas with Pastor Thaddeus Hinkle officiating.

Inurnment will take place in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Mankato, Kansas at a later time.

Delbert was born in rural Osborne, Kansas on September 21, 1935, a son of Glen Eugene and Mary Laura (Chandler) Moore. Delbert attended Greenwood Grade School and graduated from Osborne High School, Osborne, Kansas in 1956. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in McPherson. Delbert worked different jobs through the years including going to California for a couple years to work in vehicle upholstery, and worked for Luray Co-op Grain Elevator for 25 years. After moving to McPherson he worked for Blue Beacon Car Wash until he retired in 1999. After Delbert retired he volunteered his time with the McPherson County Food Bank in McPherson. Delbert was a Lions member in Luray, Kansas. Delbert Eugene Moore was united in marriage to Loeta Kay Wilcoxson on March 27, 1960 in Osborne, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in rural Osborne. Loeta passed away Jan. 12, 1983. Delbert Eugene Moore was united in marriage to Jane Dibble on April 27, 1989. This union established their home together in McPherson. This union joined Jane's two sons, Darin and Dorin with Delbert's three daughters and a son, Evelina, Linda, Darwin and Leah to become a blessed family of six. Through the years Delbert enjoyed working, gardening, limestone projects, walking, fishing with his friend Rodney Borne and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Jane Moore, of McPherson, Kansas; his children, Evelina Moore, of Manhattan, Kansas, Linda Mock and her husband John, of Greenville, South Carolina, Darwin Moore, of Ravenna, Nebraska, Leah Cochran and her husband Danny, of Russell, Kansas, Darin Nelson and his wife Teresa, of Galva, Kansas and Dorin Nelson, of Marquette, Kansas; his sister Carolyn McKinney, of Olathe, Kansas. She worked as an administrative assistant for Sprint in Overland Park, retiring in 2003. Sharyn was born on December 26, 1941, in Kansas City, KS, the daughter of Melvin Alexander “Bud” and Betty Jean (Fenner) Bowers. She graduated from Neodesha High School and Clark Business School, Topeka. On June 29, 1963, she was united in marriage to Harvey Lloyd Thompson at the First Christian Church in Neodesha, KS. Two children were born to this union, Vickie and Steven. She was a member of New Hope Evangelical Church, McPherson. She enjoyed doing all sorts of crafts, such as knitting and crocheting to benefit many nonprofit organizations. Along with knitting and crocheting prayer shawls and blankets for premature babies, she knitted afghans for all her children and grandchildren. Sharyn loved dogs, and this trait has been passed down to many of her family members. Martha grew up on a farm near Havensville, KS and graduated from Onaga High School in 1971. She graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in education in 1975. Her first job after graduation was teaching elementary school in Munden, KS.

After teaching, she started a career in the property and casualty insurance industry. Martha started out as a rater and moved up to executive management during her career, earning CPCU and CIC certifications along the way. During this time, she worked for Iowa Mutual Insurance Company, Cimarron Insurance Company, and Farmers Alliance Mutual Insurance Company. In her spare time, Martha enjoyed cooking, arts and crafts, traveling, and spending time with friends. Martha is survived by two sons, A.J. Hofmann, Kansas City, Mo, and Tyler Hofmann, Dodge City, KS; brother Cecil Fordham and wife Linda, of Onaga, KS, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was born on October 19, 1960, in Tulsa, OK, the daughter of Benny Roy Goforth and Wanda Lois (Blade) Williams. Lydia was an amazing mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, fiancé, and friend. She loved to cook personally and professionally. She worked at McPherson College for Fresh Ideas. She loved spending time with her family. Her kids and grandkids were her bright light in this world. She enjoyed going on motorcycle rides, feeling the wind in her hair, hearing the thunderous sound of a Harley, and the feeling of freedom that came from riding. Lydia was an avid Oklahoma Sooner fan, “Boomer Sooner!” She would have been four years sober in November. She loved meeting and visiting with people, new and old, always willing to give advice and enjoyed the conversations. Ronnie Dale Jantz, 68, of Galva, KS, passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2021, at Pine Village, Moundridge. Ron was born February 10, 1953, the son of Virgil and Betty (Sitts) Jantz. They moved to Galva where he attended elementary and high school. He learned to work hard and as a youth. He would ride his bicycle along the roads to collect pop bottles. Later, he would clean after hours at a restaurant and helped run errands for workers pouring cement. Clock #96 was Ron’s number when he began working at John’s Manville in the Plant Services Department in McPherson. After 30 years, he decided to retire. He then was employed as a custodian at the Smoky Valley Middle School in Lindsborg. The next 11 years, he worked at Farmers Alliance in McPherson. He always had a smile and enjoyed greeting his co-workers. Ron enjoyed camping with his parents and then with his own family. Riding his bicycle gave him a lot of enjoyment. He was patient teaching his children to ride bikes and then later, driving the car. He was known for always having a “clean” car. The sound of race cars could be heard in the house on Sundays as Ron enjoyed NASCAR racing. The second year of marriage found Ron and Janis flying to Alabama for the Talladega NASCAR race, not to see relatives, just to attend the race! Ron was always willing to help family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers. When his children began their school days, he volunteered many hours at Elyria Christian School painting, mowing, trimming, and spreading sand for new cement floors. He was always supportive of any activities the family was interested in. Ron and Janis (Hodson) met at a Christian singles group and were married May 17, 1980, at the First United Methodist Church in McPherson. It was important for his family to attend church and participate in the weekly activities. For 43 years, Ron enjoyed singing with the Kansas Mennonite Men’s Chorus. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Janis Jantz of Galva, KS; a daughter, Lori Klatt and husband, Bradly of McPherson, KS; a son, David Jantz of St. Joseph, MO and his fiancé, Caitlyn Powell of Manhattan, KS; and two grandsons, Rylan and Kasen Klatt. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. Jerris Letourneau, 97, of Clay Center, died Sunday, August 15, 2021 at the Clay County Medical Center in Clay Center, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born December 10, 1923, east of Idana at her grandparents’ home, the daughter of Earl and Gertrude (Campbell) Tobyne.&nbsp; Jerris graduated from Clay Center High School in 1940.

She married Leo Letourneau on December 6, 1940 and they made their home in Corvallis, Oregon, where Leo was a surveyor.&nbsp; They moved to Bennington, Kansas after Leo was discharged from the Army, where they resided for 40 years.&nbsp; Jerris became a beautician in 1946 and she owned and operated the Klip N Kurl in Bennington.&nbsp; 

The couple moved back to Clay Center in 1997, where Leo resided in Medicalodge until his death and then Jerris moved to Parkview Plaza for 21 years.&nbsp; At the time of her death, she was a resident of the Clay Center Presbyterian Manor.&nbsp; Jerris was a member of the Idana Presbyterian Church. &nbsp;She is preceded in death by parents, husband, daughter, Kathy Ann Letourneau and son, Dennis Letourneau.

Chris was born on April 27, 1994 in Zweibrücken, Germany, the last born son to Manfred Milbers and Jacqueline “Jackie” Trillo-Milbers.

In Chris’s younger years he grew and flourished alongside his two older brothers, mother, father and Grandma Milbers. He took an early liking to the outdoors, animals, sports, music and dancing. He mastered things quickly, and always strived to grow and improve. He had a fierce drive and a burning passion for life, his loves, hobbies and interests.

Even at a young age Chris had no fear of living fast. On the backseat of his father's motorcycle, he would commonly ride. It was then and there Chris found a love for motorsports, and the open road.

Christopher studied at Beloit Junior-Senior High School, then continued to work different jobs around local establishments, ultimately choosing a career at the local hog farm.

Chris may not have been known as a man of many words, but he will surely be remembered as a man of many heartfelt connections. He was happies spending time with his loved ones and close friends. He truly enjoyed the small moments life has to offer. Things like driving with his dog, and enjoying home cooked meals with his mom and family. Passing time on Sunday evenings with a round of disc golf. Playing and enjoying time spent with his son EJ at the park. Most importantly, growing into the role of a new father, and family man.

Life without Chris will never feel the same. The time and memories shared, will forever be treasured and adored.

Chris is preceded in death by his grandmother Dominga Ozuna Ortiz and cousin Cameron Vasquez of Texas, grandfather Kurt Karl Milbers, and loving aunt Karin Walter (Milbers) of Germany.

He worked at Agco for 13 years as a quality assurance technician. He also worked in construction for 30 years and then owned and operated his own construction company for 20 years. Dolores Eileen Landry, &nbsp;89 years of age, of Ames, passed away Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Park Villa Nursing Home in Clyde. Dolores, the youngest of eleven children of James E. Smith and Margaret Corrigan Smith, was born September 15, 1931 in Clifton, Kansas.&nbsp; 

She married Maurice “Nick” Landry on January 3, 1953 in Clyde.&nbsp; They lived on the Landry farm south of Ames.&nbsp; In addition to working the family farm, Dolores was also a licensed beautician with her own business for several years and drove a school bus for USD 224. In 1988, Dolores graduated from the travel and tourism program at Cloud County Community College. She was proud of her community and was an active promoter of rural life, Kansas tourism, and especially the attractions in Cloud County.&nbsp;

Dolores is survived by children, Marie Landry and husband Tim Marchand of Topeka, Micheal Landry and wife Diane of Woodbridge, Virginia, Patricia Hamilton of Topeka, Phillip Landry and wife Stephanie of Excelsior Springs, Missouri. She was a much loved grandmother to her grandchildren, Melanie McDowell, Alyson McDowell, Alexis (&amp; Emery) Clark, Jake (&amp; Anne) Hamilton, Michelle Landry, Ben and Joe Landry; and grandchildren, Jasper, Evie, Jett and Hattie Clark. She is fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nick Landry, her parents, and ten brothers and sisters and several nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later time.&nbsp; Inurnment will follow at the Pleasant View Cemetery south of Ames.

She was born December 20, 1939 in Abilene the daughter of Dean and Marie (Woodside) Simpson. She graduated from DCCHS in Chapman, KS in 1957. Following graduation she was the secretary to the Dickinson Superintendent of Schools until 1966. She then became the secretary to assistant superintendent and superintendent of schools for the Chapman School District until her retirement in 1996. Maridean served on the board of directors of the Irish Foundation and on the scholarship committee and on the Chapman High School Meritorious Graduate. Maridean also was a part of the Cheever EEU Ladies, the Dickinson County EEU Council, and was a life member of the Talmage Historical Museum. She enjoyed crafts and making quilts and enjoyed watching all her grandchildren’s activities. On June 28, 1958 Maridean was united in marriage to Thomas J. Durham. He passed away September 28, 1984. She then married Marvin J. Bebermeyer on August 4, 1996. He passed away November 3, 2005. She is survived by her daughter Amy and her husband Scott Allen of Salina, son Jay Durham and his wife Andrea of Salina, stepsons Bevin Bebermeyer and his wife Sue of Clay Center, Rylan Bebermeyer and his wife Anne of Davenport, Iowa, Arlan Bebermeyer and his wife Carolyn of Sedgwick, Kalen Bebermeyer and his wife Ann of Belleville, Daren Bebermeyer of Abilene, and brother Joe Simpson of Navarre, 19 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. Jr. was born in Abilene, Kansas on March 23, 1943, a son of the late Goldie Darlene (Forney) and Walter Franklin Aleshire, Sr. He worked at St. John's Military School for many years. Survivors include his nephew Joel Aleshire; and great-nieces Cassandra Aleshire and Maya Aleshire, all of Salina. He is preceded in death by his sister Nadine Aleshire. Alvin R. Plunkett, 61, of Tescott, passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2021.&nbsp; He was born October 8, 1959, in Salina, KS.

Alvin worked for Tony’s Pizza Service for 17 years, Tescott Woodcrafter’s for three years and Solomon Corp for 15 years.

Alvin married Donna on August 18, 1979 and would spend the next 42 years loving her and building an amazing life together with their two daughters. He loved being a family man. He couldn’t help but give in to his girls. Even after saying no more pets many times, he would always give in and welcome another. He would love helping the girls make forts and letting them have sleepovers with many kids if not even full classrooms full.

He was a hardworking man and lived a simple life. He was always lending a helping hand. There was no such thing as a stranger in Alvin’s eyes.

Alvin was always busy doing home improvements. He helped hand dig a swimming pool with his brother. He was always having his girls and grandkids tagging along on all the different projects he was working on. Like he was reroofing the house and had Samantha and Alvina on the roof with him. He nailed their clothes to the roof so they wouldn’t fall. When Donna was hollering up there for them, he would say they are just fine, they aren’t going anywhere.

Alvin and his identical twin brother Alan would be working on the farm, and one would wear a red shirt and the other a blue. They loved to swap shirts and trick the children on who was whose dad.

He was preceded in death by his parents Eldon and Edna (Hart) Plunkett.

Survivors include his wife Donna Plunkett of the home; daughters Samantha Plunkett of Salina, Alvina Thomas of Tescott; grandchildren Essence Plunkett, Andrew Sager, Daija Thomas, Evan Sager, Devon Thomas, Aaliyah Thomas; brothers, Albert Plunkett, Alan (Terry) Plunkett, Mike (Joanie) Plunkett; nieces Teresa Thompson, Tonia Curtis; and nephews Joe Thompson, Caleb White, Levi Plunkett.

A celebration of life with be held at a later date.

Forrest John Horton

Gunar was born on August 1, 2003 in Salina, Ks to David and Shana (Kruckenberg) Reed. He lived in Salina until 2008, when his family moved to KC, in order to be closer to Children's Mercy Hospital. He passed away peacefully at home on July 23rd, 2021, with his family and Hospice at his side, and after a life-long courageous fight.&nbsp;

He is survived by his parents, along with his two sisters, Amanda Wiedeman (Dalton Bloch) and Bria Reed of Overland Park, KS. His grandparents Jolene Reed of Salina and Nancy (Richard) Pieschl of Minneapolis, KS. Aunts and Uncles, Mike (Darcy) Reed and Eric (Mandi Garst) of Salina, and Julie Griffin of Ft. Lauderdale, FL., and Tanya (Mark) Rader, of Carlton. His amazing, faithful, and patient dog/companion, Maddie. Along with many special cousins, amazing friends, a “God Family '' and “Brothers”.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his grandpa’s, Marlin Kruckenberg, Jim Reed and Bill Persinger, along with his Uncle, James Reed Griffin.&nbsp;

Gunar spent most of his life home-bound and home-schooled due to many health issues. He had many wonderful home-health nurses over the years, Barbara (Grandma) Contreras, Nancy McDonald, Melinda Yetmar, Ellen Maxwell and Heather Hallbeck, who helped make his journey the best and made many memories over the years. He also had homebound teachers who filled his mind and heart with their knowledge and support, Karen Kittel, Kate Sokoloff and, through highschool, Katie Marx who became one of his “best friends” and guided him to one of his biggest goals, to graduate from Shawnee Mission West HS on May 25 2021.&nbsp;

In November of 2003, Gunar was dedicated at his home by Pastor Renee Colaw. The Journey to create, what Gunar called, his God Family began that day with his Godmother, Linda Lawrence. As Gunar got older he announced he had GodBrothers, Rick, Rob and Ryan House&nbsp; (Lindas boys), later to add the GodSisters (Lauren, Desiree, and Gabby), and finishing off with his new GodFather, Eric Lund.&nbsp;

He has been blessed with so many “special opportunities” throughout his short life, such as being chosen to be the representative for the Make-a-Wish foundation with the Chiefs players, being “famous” for his annual Runner’s for Gunar Benefit in Salina, hosted by his BDE (Best Dude Ever), Mark Weiss, to meeting Ed Hearn, Met and Royals player who has since become his brother/great friend. On December 16, 2020 Gunars biggest and most life changing opportunity came in the form of his official signing to join the Kansas State Football team as a (honorary) player. More “Brothers” were added to his life that day such as, Taylor Braet, recruiting coach, Skylar Thomspson, quarterback and Wyatt Hubert, Defensive end/outside linebacker, with many others sharing in the support!&nbsp;

Gunar loved all with everything he had and always found a way to make others feel special and happy. The hearts and lives that he touched are never ending and he will live on forever in our hearts and memories.&nbsp;

A Memorial Service for Paula S. (Bruning) Keffeler will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Reverend Sylvia High Karlsson officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

Paula Sue Keffeler, 52 years of age, of Holdrege, died on Sunday, August 8, 2021, at the Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney, Nebraska following a courageous battle with cancer. Paula was born on February 11, 1969, in Phillipsburg, Kansas, the fourth of five children, born to Dalbert and Karen (Bolte) Bruning. She received her education from Herndon, Kansas Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1987. Paula was active in high school with Cheerleading and Dance. Paula then pursued higher education from McCook Community College with an Associates of Science. She then went on to receive a degree in Radiologic Technology from Fort Hayes State University in Hays, Kansas.

On August 26, 1995, Paula was united in marriage to Bryan Keffeler at the Immanuel United Christian Church in Herndon. To this union, they were blessed with two children: Katelyn and Brayden. The family made their home in Holdrege, where Paula was employed at Phelps Memorial Hospital as a Radiologic Technologist, Sonographer, and Mammographer, for 28 years. On August 26, 2020, Paula and Bryan celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary.

Paula enjoyed singing, crafting, gardening, dancing, and spending time with her friends and family. Together, the family loved to craft and enjoyed their vacations to the beach. Above all, Paula loved being a mom. She has left a tremendous legacy of love to her husband, children, family, and friends.

She was a member of Spirit of Grace Lutheran Church in Holdrege, the American Society of Radiologic Technologists, and the Nebraska Society of Radiologic Technologists.

Paula was preceded in death by her parents, Dalbert and Karen (Bolte) Bruning.

Paula leaves to mourn her passing; her husband, Bryan Keffeler of Holdrege; her children: Katelyn and Brayden Keffeler of Holdrege; her siblings: Donna Weeks and her husband, Rick of Cawker City, Kansas; Kim Dempewolf and her husband, Steve of Colby, Kansas; Roy Bruning and his wife, Teresa of Atwood, Kansas; and Kristin Grafel and her husband, Kurt of Natoma, Kansas; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jake and Phyllis Keffeler of Sturgis, South Dakota; two brothers-in-law: Troy Keffeler and his wife, Christi; and Kurt Keffeler and his wife, Kamette all of Sturgis; along with a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial book signing will be held on Friday, August 20, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established in Paula’s honor, and kindly suggested to the family for later designation.

Jeannine Wedell Shadwick, of Greeley, Colorado, died peacefully on August 8, 2021 at the age of 90. Jeannine was born July 19, 1931 to Elmer and Gladys Wedell in Lincoln, Nebraska. She graduated from Great Bend, Kansas High School, attended Lindenwood University, and graduated from Kansas State University in 1953 with a BS in Education. She moved to Salina, Kansas and taught in the junior high.

Jeannine was committed to serving in the community and was prominent in women's organizations including PEO Chapter BE, Questers antiques study group, and WTK, a women’s study group founded in 1890. She was founder of the Greeley Pi Beta Phi Alumni club, co-chair of a UNC College of Preforming Arts Fund Drive, and co-chair of the successful drive to acquire the “Promise of the Prairie” sculpture for Lincoln Park. She served on the Hospice and Palliative Care Board of Northern Colorado, Inc. and the Board of the NCMC Hospital Foundation. Jeannine worked in the Greeley United Way and she was a consultant at the Greeley National Bank Women's program. She was Vice President of the Philharmonic Guild and served as chair and co-chair of the Philharmonic Guild Christmas Festival of Trees.

Her Christian faith was important to her as a member of the Rolling Hills United Church of Christ in Salina, Kansas where she served as Moderator and was chair of the Rolling Hills Art Fair for 10 years. She worked to develop the community arts program in Salina and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Lester Raymer Artist Society in Lindsborg, Kansas. As an active member of the First Congregational Church United Church of Christ in Greeley, Colorado, she was co-chair of its 125th anniversary celebration and served on several church committees. Jeannine was a true committed Kansas State Wildcat as a member of the Board of Directors of the Kansas State Alumni Association and Trustee of the Kansas State Foundation.

Out of a need to help provide appropriate clothing for low income and disadvantaged women to prepare them for entry into the job market, she was co-founder and chair for 10 years of Leanna's Closet. She recruited and trained volunteers, solicited donations of clothing suitable for the workplace, and negotiated space and utilities to be donated. Because of her contributions to the community, she was named Woman of the Year in 2005 by A Woman's Place, Inc. A highlight in her life was being named to the National Board of Directors for the Swedish Council of America. She loved serving her Swedish heritage.

As a world traveler, especially in Europe, Jeannine enjoyed learning and exploring other countries with Shad. Jeannine loved being surrounded by her friends and especially loved her time with her Mahjong group, as well as the women in the PEO book club she started. Above all, what was most important in her life was her family.

Jeannine is survived by her husband Gerald “Shad” Shadwick of 67 years; her children Jeff Shadwick of Houston, Monte (Jannell) Shadwick of Salina, Kansas, Jay (Dianne) Shadwick of Overland Park, Kansas and Nancy (David) Lovell, of Kirkwood, Missouri; grandchildren Mary, Madeline, Sam, Graham, Grayson, Ben (Kasey), Will (Marisa), Tom, Blake, Reagan, Hannah and Anne; and great-grandchild Emmett.

She was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Gladys Wedell.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, August 21, 2021 at First Congregational Church of Greeley. Inurnment at First Congregational Church will follow the service.

Mary E. Sugars, daughter of Frank Thompson and Jacqueline ( Hoskins) Thompson was born March 13, 1958 at Red Cloud, Nebraska and passed away on August 13, 2021 at her home in Chester, Nebraska at the age 63.

She was united in marriage to David Sugars on April 7, 1975 and to this union two children were born, Jennifer and Jason.&nbsp;&nbsp; She was a longtime Footes Café employee.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Jacqueline Thompson, and sister, Christine.
