Leonard "Clem" Beikmann, 82, of Clifton, died Friday, August 13, 2021 at the Salina Regional Medical Center.&nbsp; He was born on August 21, 1938 at Clifton, Kansas the son of Albert and Rosa (Ohlde) Beikmann.&nbsp;

Clem grew up in the Clifton area and graduated from Linn High School in 1956.&nbsp; He served in the U.S. Army as a military policeman.&nbsp; After his service, Clem returned to the Clifton area, where he farmed his entire life.&nbsp; He worked in Iowa, building grain bins for three years and he worked construction, building roads and bridges in Kansas.&nbsp; Clem also spent many years working for Clay Center Livestock Sales and Junction City Livestock Sales. &nbsp;

He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Linn American Legion. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jennice Wright.

He is survived by two nieces and two nephews.

Oneita Mae Evans, 92, passed away August 13, 2021 at the Leonardville Nursing Home.

She was born on December 14, 1928 at the family farm in Clay County, the daughter of John Edward and Mildred Margie Mae (Sanneman) Musselman. She attended Idylwild School and graduated from Clay Center Community High School in 1947. After graduation she worked at Easy Pay Tire Store, Resler's Style Shope, Weimer's Drug Store and Duckwall's.

On April 15, 1955, she married Donald W. Evans in Concordia. They farmed near Fact until 1956, when they moved to the May Day community. In 1969, they moved to the Green community. Oneita moved to Clay Center in 1988 and worked at Banner 5-10 and Gibson's until her retirement in 2013.

Oneita was active in the Fancy Creek Zion United Methodist Church, the Green United Methodist Church and the Clay Center United Methodist Church. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren and spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed listening to music, dancing and playing cards.

She was preceded in death by her husband Donald W. Evans, December 4, 1985, her parents, and her son-in-law Alfred Beichter.

She is survived by her daughter Becky Beichter of Clay Center, daughter Beverly Shivers and husband Kenneth of Clay Center, her son Bryan Evans and wife Konnie of Green, her brother Leon Musselman and wife Verna Lee of Clay Center, six grandchildren, Jason (Debra) Anderson, Lucas Shivers, Kevin (Cara) Shivers, Kathy (Conan) Mader, Jordan Evans, and Emily Evans. 6 great-grandchildren, Addie Anderson, Gage Anderson, James Shivers, Malek Harris, Zane Mader and Amilya Mader.&nbsp;

Robert "Bob" Mall, age 75, died August 12, 2021 at his home in Clay Center.&nbsp; Bob was born in Blackwell, Oklahoma on August 12, 1946, the son of Katheryn Ann Chilcoat Mall and Jack D. Mall.&nbsp; Bob attended grade school in Topeka, KS and Clay Center.&nbsp; He graduated from Clay Center High School in 1964.&nbsp; Bob felt it was a great honor to be inducted into the Clay Center Tiger Hall of Fame.

Bob secured a full scholarship and earned business administration bachelor and master degrees at Kansas University.&nbsp; Later he earned a post-graduate degree in senior management from Harvard University.&nbsp;

Bob worked for the U.S. Customs Service in a variety of positions and locations.&nbsp; After starting as an import specialist in Kansas City, he had roles as port director in Tampa, district director in New Orleans, assistant regional commissioner in Chicago, deputy assistant commissioner in D.C, U.S. Customs attaché and World Customs Organization diplomat at the U.S. Embassy in Brussels, Belgium.

Through his career, he was able to oversee operations at Atlanta and JFK airports.&nbsp; As a senior executive, he was involved in a number of trade negotiations for the U.S. Department of State that opened up international markets to U.S. products.&nbsp; His methods became an international standard.&nbsp; For this, Bob received the Presidential Merit Award from President George H. W. Bush.&nbsp; He also participated in nuclear department negotiations with the governments of Russia and Belarus.

Bob married Vicky Thompson on April 14, 1967.&nbsp; He is preceded in death by his parents and one son, Kelly Mall.&nbsp; Survivors are wife&nbsp; Vicky of the home; son Kyle (Tish) Mall of Battle Creek, Michigan; grandkids Jake (Chelsea) and Chelcie; great-grandkids Owen (O), Peyton Jay (PJ), Zaiden (Z), and Lucas all of Battle Creek, Michigan.&nbsp;

Marilyn worked at Friendly Acres in Newton, and then at Wheat State Manor for 35 years in laundry. She was a member of Federated Church. She loved her family and enjoyed sewing, baking anything sweet, puzzles, card games and dominos. Her loving family includes her sons and their wives, Vic and Penny Hiebert of Park City, Kansas, Dave and Lesa Hiebert of Haysville, Kansas; granddaughters, Jennifer (Aaron) Archer of Whitewater, Sheridan Hiebert; five step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 16 step-great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Vic in 2016. Marilyn passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at the age of 84 years old. She was born April 2, 1963, in Salina, KS, and is the daughter of Verle L. and Judith Ann (Reitz) Hettenbach of Woodbine. She graduated from Chapman High School with the class of 1981, then earned her bachelor’s degree in special education from Emporia State University. Lorie never earned her master’s degree, but had more than double the hours needed. She enjoyed learning! Lorie started her career at Augusta, KS, but spent most of her 36 years of teaching between Abilene and Chapman K-8. Lorie loved her students and went above and beyond for them. She was referred to as “a force to be reckoned with.” She was a member of the Woodbine United Methodist Church, the Jolly Jays 4-H Club, the Dickinson County Rural Life Association, the Kansas Special Olympics, the International Reading Association, the Eisenhower Reading Council, and the Kansas Reading Council. She loved reading and working outdoors in the mornings. On August 13, 1988, Lorie was united in marriage to Scott Robert Flippo in Abilene. He survives of the home. Other survivors include their son Byron (Tara Dethlefs) of Abilene, parents Verle and Judy, brothers Tod (Leesa) Hettenbach of Chapman, Bart (Susan) Hettenbach of Hope, sister-in-law Robin (Paul) Johnson of Roxbury, nieces and nephews Tessa (Brad) Matacale, Tanner Hettenbach, Shelby and Della Hettenbach, Eric (Paola) Johnson, and Erin (Adam) Rohret, great-nieces and great-nephews Grace Hanback, Emmett and Eleanor Matacale, Wade Rohret, and Alexis and Ryan Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents Elmer and Elda Hettenbach, Woodbine, and Richard and Vera Reitz, Abilene. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at the Abilene Cemetery. At 1:30 p.m. a Celebration of Life Service will be at the Woodbine United Methodist Church in Woodbine, both with Reverend Kris Brinlee officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 17, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Danner Funeral Home.

Kenneth C. “Keno” Stephenson passed away peacefully with his family at his side on August 8, 2021.&nbsp; He was born on August 5, 1926 to John and Hannah Stephenson on the family farm near Downs, Kansas.&nbsp; After graduating from Downs High School and two years helping on the dairy farm, he enlisted in the Army and served in Korea from Dec. 1946 to Jan. 1948.&nbsp; 

After returning home, he married Geraldine Schoen and moved to Lawrence, Kansas to attend the University of Kansas where he received a B.A. degree in business.&nbsp; 

In early 1953, he and his young family of three moved to Salina where he began working at Central Typewriter Company.&nbsp; He bought the company just 10 months later and over the years grew it into a prominent office equipment and supplies business, later known as Central Office Products.&nbsp; He innovated the leasing of business equipment, and in 1973 created Design Central, the office furniture and interior design aspect of the business.

Keno, as he was known to many, was very active in the Salina community as a member and leader in numerous organizations, including: &nbsp;Jaycees (President 1956), Salina’s Chamber of Commerce (President 1968), and the Salina Airport Authority (Board Chair 1988-90).&nbsp; He served on the Asbury Foundation Board of Trustees and later the Salina Regional Health Foundation (1995-2004) and was the first Chairman of its CHIP (Community Health Improvement Program) Committee; and Kansas Wesleyan University (Trustee 1985-91, Vice Chairman of the Board, and member of the Foundation Board).&nbsp; He also served First United Methodist Church as chairman of the Board of Trustees, the Pastor Relations Committee, and the FUMC Foundation and its Finance Committee, and relished the lasting friendships and devoted support of the Peacemakers and Gracefinders classes.&nbsp; 

One of his self-appointed missions in life was ensuring the long-term financial health of community service organizations so, like Johnny Appleseed planting apple trees everywhere he went, Keno encouraged, helped establish, and nurtured financial foundations in many organizations in which he was involved.

Keno had an eager appetite for travel and enjoyed many trips nationally and abroad through business associations and with family, thriving in the adventure, meeting new people, and experiencing different cultures. &nbsp;His family has many special memories of those shared experiences. &nbsp;But it was at his “little place in the country” where he felt the most at home and enjoyed his gardens, fishing in his ponds, and heating his “cabin” with wood he cut, split and stacked.&nbsp; The family 4th of July weekends became their annual reunion, spending time working together on improvement projects, relaxing on the deck, and enjoying Keno’s popcorn and homegrown tomatoes.&nbsp; He was pleased and grateful for his family, Milt Allen (a longtime family friend) and others who lent a hand so that he could continue living at home in his later years, both in Salina and most recently in Scottsdale.

Keno worked with purpose, pursued his goals, built his businesses, created his bit of paradise in the country, and gave his time and wisdom to community and church.&nbsp; He also enjoyed life, fun and laughter with friends and family; communing with nature just watching his trees, ponds and wildlife; expanding cultural perspectives and seeking adventure through travel and reading; and coming home to the warmth of his fireplace next to his favorite chair.&nbsp; 

He had a gift for drawing a person into conversation and was equally comfortable chatting with a lifelong friend or a newly met one.&nbsp; He loved to entertain, hosting parties large and small, and share his wit and humor.&nbsp; He was a mentor to many, modestly teaching by example.&nbsp; He lived a life of truth and integrity, patience, wisdom, grace, humor, humility, and great generosity – hallmark qualities that have guided his life, and inspired his family, friends, and those who worked alongside him.

Keno was preceded in death by his wife, Gerry; his mother and father; brother, Blaine Stephenson; and sister, Helen Stephenson.&nbsp; He will be greatly missed by his three children, Judy Hamilton (Bill Wiecek) of Syracuse, NY, and Davis, CA, Nancy Steele of Merriam, KS, and David Stephenson (Bonni) of Paradise Valley, AZ; his three grandchildren, Shawn Hamilton (Meridith) of Louisville KY, Carolyn Steele (David DeFrees) of Overland Park, KS, and Matt Steele of Merriam, KS; and three great-grandchildren, Nicholas Hamilton, Jillian Hamilton, and Penelope DeFrees – all of whom love him dearly.

Funeral arrangements by Ryan Mortuary.&nbsp; A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 21 at First United Methodist Church, 122 N. 8th St, Salina, KS, and will be livestreamed.&nbsp; In keeping with Keno’s wishes, and to protect family members who are not able to be vaccinated, the Stephenson family requests that all attendees wear masks and that vaccinated persons join them in person in the sanctuary, 2nd floor.&nbsp; Those not yet vaccinated are invited to share in the service by watching the livestream together in Fellowship Hall, 1st floor.

Jamie Christine Kempke (Blackwell), 44, of Gypsum, KS passed away peacefully in Salina on August 11, 2021.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Visitation will be held Friday, August 20, 2021 from 6 p.m. -8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 10 a.m. at Roselawn, 1920 E. Crawford Street, Salina, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jamie had a love for her husband and boys, her sisters and family, and all her friends.&nbsp; Jamie enjoyed listening to church hymns, baking, watching the birds, tending to her flowers, and spending time with her family and friends. She also had a special love for being a preschool teacher. Many know Jamie from the work she did in ensuring our most precious little children would be more than ready for kindergarten.&nbsp; She was the founder, director, and teacher at Garden of Giggles Child Care.&nbsp; A name developed due to her love of plants and children. Both gifts of love she received from her mother. Through the years, Jamie strived to fulfill her God-given purpose for helping others.&nbsp; She was meant to give back to her community. All her work in the preschool, sports, her church, and her community provided her so much joy.

While our hearts hurt, and our time with her cut short, we are forever grateful for the years gifted. We find comfort in the knowledge that our Heavenly Father has reunited Jamie with her mother.&nbsp; We hold onto her memories and her strength.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jamie is preceded in death by her mother Judy Ann Fifer.&nbsp;

She is survived by her husband of 16 years, Darin Kempke; her two sons, Jackson and Tyler; along with her father Jack Blackwell of Enterprise; Jamie’s two sisters, Jacque Backhus (Gary, Kodee, Hannah) of Salina,&nbsp; Jody Moeschler (Mike, Hayle, Isaiah, Alexis, Ethan) of Bonner Springs; her stepdad Tom Fifer (Ann) of Bradenton, Florida; her in-laws, Danny and Peggy Kempke; and sister-in-law Renee Kempke (Connor, Kelsey, Kylie, Karter, Katie) of Kanopolis.

Kenneth L. Huber Jr, son of Kenneth L. Huber Sr. and Madalene L. (Weir) Huber&nbsp;was born October 9, 1946 at Concordia, Kansas and passed away on August 11, 2021 at his home in Formoso, Kansas at the age of 74.

He was a crane operator and construction supervisor for Reece Construction Company and also worked for the state of Kansas Department of Transportation.&nbsp; 

He was united in marriage to Rebecca Jo Mohler on June 4, 1963 and to this union three children were born, Jerry, Judy and Janet.

He was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth&nbsp; and Madalene Huber, wife Rebecca Jo Huber, father and mother-in-law Virgil and Ada Mohler, two sisters, Patricia McFarlane, Gloria Jean Guzik, two sisters-in-law, Gloria Ann Massey, Iris Mae Mohler, and brother-in-law, Michael Mohler.

He is survived by son Jerry (Erlyn) Huber of Formoso, KS, daughters Judy Yvonne Huber of Blue Springs, MO, Janet (Dan) Higer of Mankato, KS, sister Nancy Sue Holland, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, Bret (Arianne) Engel, Madi and Kason, Heather (Heath) Woodall, Corbyn and Paisley, Sammi (Estevan) Maturino, Chloe and Pru, Travis Novak, Tycen and Mason Higer, Amanda (Matt) Cudney, Lilah and Archer, Nick Higer.

Herington - John E. Snyder, 67, passed away August 10, 2021 at his residence in Herington. He was born January 15, 1954 in North Hollywood, California to Francis and Jessie (Clampitt) Snyder. John worked at NASA where he was vice president of ground operations.

John Earl Snyder was born on January 15, 1954 in North Hollywood, California to Frances and Jessie Snyder.

John was raised and attended school through high school in Northridge, California. After graduating from high school John enlisted and joined the Air Force. He was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base in Colorado where he learned to track satellites.

John also was stationed on the island of Guam, where he continued to monitor satellites for the Air Force. This experience led him to join NASA after his tour of duty was completed.

His first assignment at NASA sent John to Vandenberg Air Force Base where he tracked satellites from lift off to circling the globe.

John continued his career at NASA and was assigned to the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. There he served as a ground controller during the space shuttle missions.

He was later promoted to manager of Mission Control Center for Lockheed Martin until his retirement when the space shuttle missions came to an end.

After his retirement from NASA, John relocated to Springfield, Missouri where he lived until moving to Herington, Kansas.

John had no children but had a deep love for his furry companions.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Survivors include: sisters Marilyn Ham of Redondo Beach, California, Susie (Wesley) McAmis of Springfield, Missouri; great-nephew Preston McAmis; dear friend Michelle Miller of Junction City; his best friend Molly the dog, of the home. 

Committal service 3:00 p.m. Monday, August 16, 2021 at Sunset Hill cemetery in Herington.

Alice Ann Freeman Connelly Kerr was born August 14, 1934 and passed away peacefully on November 20, 2020 surrounded by loved ones. Alice was born in Hamilton, Kansas in her parents’ farmhouse in the midst of a dust storm. This may have been the reason she was as tough as she has been for 86 years. 

Survived by daughter Megan Connelly, stepdaughter Brenda Humphrey (Dean) and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews and one great-great-great nephew. 

Preceded in death by her husbands John Connelly and Earl Kerr, mother Lydia Shields Freeman, father Henry Freeman, sisters Mary Ellen Jernigan (Derald) and Martha Ames (Bob), niece Heidi Jernigan Stanbrough and nephew Jeff Jernigan. 

Alice lived in Hamilton until age 7 when she moved to Concordia, Kansas. The family thrived in Concordia where her father was mayor and they owned the town grocery store. She graduated from Concordia High School in 1952. Alice enjoyed going back to Concordia for every high school reunion up until 2018. She and her high school friends enjoyed each other and shared so many stories. 

She then went to Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri and received her diploma in nursing in 1956. She worked in St. Louis as a labor and delivery nurse. 

She married John in 1959 and moved to Denver, Colorado. She became a pediatric nurse and remained caring for kids for over 25 years. She inspired her daughter Megan to be a pediatric nurse. In 1988 they moved to Topeka, Kansas where Alice returned to labor and delivery and was a charge nurse. Several nurses and doctors comment on how much she taught and mentored them. 

John passed away in 1996 and she then married longtime friend Earl. She retired and moved back to Denver in 2000 where she stayed until she moved to Omaha to be closer to daughter Megan. 

Alice lived a joyous life. She very much enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She loved to send birthday cards to all of her family, shop with her great-nieces, go out to eat, play games, read, watch football, cheer for Creighton basketball and have an occasional cocktail of quality Scotch. In her final hours, she was able to listen to many tributes by family and friends. Her great-nephew Steve said it best when he said she was like the sunflowers she loves, always looking towards the light. She was always positive and never complained, even through a very difficult year. She will be missed by so many.

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved&nbsp;JeKayla Marie Veal&nbsp;who was born on January 27, 2008. She peacefully passed away on August 10, 2021, in her sleep after a long struggle with chronic lung disease as well as other health complications. 

JeKayla was a spry student at South Middle School who did not let her cerebral palsy hold her back from doing the things she enjoyed. She loved listening to stories, especially mysteries! This probably explains why she is so delighted by a good prank and gets a tickle out of someone else's mischief! She was always the most ornery out of the bunch. 

Her favorite things were bubbles, bells, and going outside for a "bumpy" stroll on the road. She loved her "girl parties" and getting her nails painted with her favorite girls. Though she faced many challenges, JeKayla always held a smile so contagious, it would've brightened up anyone's day! She loves her family and felt the best when included in activities along with everyone. 

JeKayla was a ray of sunshine that brightened up everyone’s lives and genuinely has everyone wrapped around her fingers. A life may last just for a moment, but memories can make that moment last forever. We will dearly miss you, baby girl, you will always be in our hearts. May God wrap His loving arms around you and fill you with His peace in His kingdom of Heaven.

Survivors are his children Dennis (Becky) Gassman, Minneapolis, Debbie (Brad) Comfort of Minneapolis, Judi Loftin of Fort Smith, AR, and Jill Streit of Salina; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and his very special friend, Joan Barnum of Minneapolis.

He was the founder of the “Band of Brothers” Bible study group and member of two church life groups. She was the daughter of Bud and Edna Iiams. Joan graduated from Herington High School in 1961, Emporia State University in 1965, and received her master's degree from Kansas State University.

Joan taught for 36 years at Washington Elementary School in Junction City. She taught 2nd and 3rd grades as well as a 3rd-4th combo. She was a John’s Hopkins Trainer for Success for All Reading Program for her school.

Joan had many hobbies including sewing for herself, family, and friends, made many gorgeous quilts, enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, loved traveling - toured all 50 states and collected souvenir shot glasses from every state, vacationed in many foreign countries, and created beautiful memory photo albums -&nbsp; enjoyed gourmet cooking, and was a true animal lover of dogs, cats, and horses. When she was younger, she owned several horses and enjoyed horseback riding. She was a member of KNEA her entire teaching career, also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.

Joan is survived by her son Jeff Turner, (Jodi), grandchildren Grant, Rachel, and Tara; her son Jamie Dodd; Archie Moore was her wonderful companion for 23 years. He helped her and stayed by her side; her sister Judy Domke, (Kerry), her nephew Ethan Domke, (Mindy), Dylan and Clara, her nephew Nicolas Domke (Sarah), Josephine and Sofia; and many dear friends and family members.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 14, at 10:00 a.m. in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Herington. The date has been changed due to Covid-19.

John Paul Jones, of Salina, Kansas passed away Saturday, August 7, 2021.&nbsp; He was born to Thomas and Lora Jones on June 13, 1953 in Sedan, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents (Thomas and Lora Jones) and a&nbsp; sister (Martha Jane Trigg).

Survivors are his wife of 45 years (Colleen Sue), four children (Shelley May (Norbert), Eric Ray, Danny Walker, and Travis Lee) plus one brother (Thomas Milam (Diane) and one sister (Mary Marie (Kenneth) and three grandsons (Deen, Joshua, Josiah).

Service will be a Celebration of John Paul Jones held at Heartland Worship Center, 118 S. 8th St., Salina, Kansas at 10 a.m. Friday, August 20, with a meal being served following the service.

SALINA –&nbsp;Charles (Chuck or Charlie) Raymond Frank, 89, of Salina went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 14, 2021. Chuck was born September 30, 1931 in Hays, KS to the late Joseph Samuel and the late Mary Rose (Schumacher) Frank.

He married Norma Marie Hickert on April 19, 1954 at New Almelo, KS.

Chuck was an airman for the U.S. Marine Corps, Air Wing, Cherry Point, NC. He was assigned to duties aboard the U.S.S. Coral Sea in the Mediterranean Sea and the U.S.S Bennington off the coast of Cuba. &nbsp;

Chuck was the vice president of J.S. Frank Construction in Salina, a project manager for Turnmar Construction Co. in Englewood, CO and a project manager for Cherokee General Contractors, Inc. in Denver, CO. Additionally he was a self-employed general contractor in Aurora, CO and an estimator and field superintendent for Western Property Management Co. in Denver, CO.

He is survived by his wife Norma, Salina; son Richard, Lenora, KS; daughter Gretchen (Gene) Browning, Huntsville, TX; son Jerry (Greta), Salina; daughter Angela (Len) York Crane, Philadelphia, PA, grandchildren Russell York, Charles York (Sophie Lipman), Joshua (Courtney) York, Brandy Frank (Tim Elder), great-grandson Levi Faulhaber, sisters Jenny Keeler, Salina; MaryJo Schuster, Sheboygan, WI, and many nieces and nephews.

Chuck was preceded in death by his daughter Theresa Frank; his parents J.S. and Mary Frank; his brothers Francis and Leroy; his sisters Edna, Delores and Margaret.

Cremation has been chosen. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 16, 2021, at Emmanuel Salina, 1325 E. Cloud, Salina.
