Les Brotton, 64, passed away Saturday, September 4, 2021. He was born September 9, 1956, to Elvin and Irene (Belcher) Brotton of Salina. He was a lifelong resident of Salina.
He is survived by his daughter Danielle (Jeff) Lee of Salina, daughter Morgan (Thomas) Kempf of Colorado Springs, and two grandchildren, Barrett Lee and Emersyn Kempf. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Suzette Brotton (Zoucha), and brother Kim Brotton.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and daughter Jessica Brotton.
Les grew up in rural Saline County on the family farm. He participated in Saline Valley 4-H and helped with the duties inherent to raising livestock and farming wheat. He attended Stimmel Grade School, Happy Corner Elementary School, and graduated from Salina Central High School in 1974. He later attended Kansas State University and was a member of Sigma Nu.
Les worked in road construction for over 40 years. He started his career with Brown & Brown of Salina. He also worked for Saline County Road and Bridge, Shears, Hall Brothers, and Bettis Asphalt. He was an expert in operating heavy equipment, traffic control and safety, road maintenance, and subgrade manipulation. Any time you took a trip with him, he shared his love for his work by providing a detailed lesson at each construction site he passed.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 8 at Ryan Mortuary, 137 8th Street, Salina, KS. Family will be present and receiving friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. There will be a graveside service for family and friends at Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Thursday, September 9 at 10:00 a.m.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, everyone will be required to wear a mask.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, in care of Ryan Mortuary.
