SALINA -&nbsp;Dallas Joe Losey, 89, passed away Thursday, May 13, 2021.&nbsp; He was born in Agra, KS to Henry and Viola (Cales) Losey.

Joe was in the U.S. Army and proudly served in Korean War.&nbsp; His decorations include the Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and National Defense Service Medal. &nbsp; He worked as a Little Debbie distributor in Salina and delivered lunches for USD 305 for many years.

Joe loved spending time outdoors especially with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy; parents and seven siblings. &nbsp;

Joe is survived by his children, Doug Losey of Salina; Susan Brock (Larry) of Marquette; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. &nbsp;

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday, June 4, 2021 at Ryan Mortuary.&nbsp; Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 5 in Agra Cemetery, Agra, KS. &nbsp;

Jerridee Ida Vernon, 85, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2021. Jerri was born in Oberlin, Kansas on September 23, 1935, a daughter of the late Armenia "Babe" (Hickman) and Jerome "Shorty" Manning. She was a resident of Salina, Kansas; Ardmore, Oklahoma; and Kanopolis, Kansas since 1969. She was a homemaker and worked as a secretary in the medical field until retirement. Jerri married Dennis Vernon on July 3, 1953 and to this union were born two daughters, Ryekel and Sue Ann and one son, Kirby. Survivors include two daughters, Ryekel "Ric" Gengler, of Topeka, Sue Ann Vernon (Mike Hine), of Salina; a son, Kirby Vernon (Christy), of Wichita. She is also survived by five grandchildren, three step- grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Vernon; brothers, Clarence, Kenneth and sister, Patty Brown. Cremation was chosen. There will be no visitation. A celebration of life/memorial service will be at Oak Hollow - Webster Conference Center at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 26. Morris Ray Foster, 72, passed away Monday, May 17, 2021 at Hays Medical 
Center, Hays, Kansas.  He was born in Norton, Kansas to Andrew Jackson 
Foster and Edith (Shafer) Foster the oldest of nine children.  Morris 
graduated from Jennings High School. 

After high school, he attended 
Northwest Kansas Area Vocational Technical School. He continued his 
education at El Passo Community College in Colorado Springs, Colorado, 
earning an Associate’s Degree. He entered the United States Army, 
September 5, 1975. Morris served for four years and eleven months in 
Badkorgnak and Frankfort, Germany and later at Ft. Carson Colorado and 
Ft. Lewis Washington. Morris married Irene (Stremel ) in Canton, Georgia on October 16, 1984.
 Morris worked as an aircraft mechanic for Lockheed Martin 
Corporation, Marietta, Georgia, as well as Northwest Airlines, 
Minneapolis, Minnesota. After he retired for Lockheed Martin and 
Northwest Airlines, he worked for Gove Co. Landfill and recycling 
center. Morris enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and traveling . He 
volunteered with the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and served as 
Chairman and committee member. He was a member of the Grainfield 
American Legion Post 301, lifetime member of the Rocky Mountain Elk 
Foundation and the National Rifle Association. Morris was a hard 
worker. He was described as being outgoing, helpful, and a person who 
put others first. 
 Morris leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Irene of the home; 
step-sons, Jeff Ross of Fairmont, Nebraska and Dale Ross of Auburn, 
Washington; step-grandchildren, Jenna Wilson and fiancé Cory Ginther, 
Salina; Randy Ross of Auburn, Washington and step-great grandsons, 
Jacob, Jeremiah, and Justan Fox of Salina, Kansas; brothers, Jack Foster
 and wife Dee of Grainfield, Kansas, Jerry Foster and wife Patty Foster 
of Jennings, Kansas, Carl Foster and wife Tonya of Springfield, Oregon, 
and Rick Foster and friend Rachel Mapps of Jennings, Kansas; sisters,

 at the Wakeeney Veterans’ Cemetery, Wakeeney, Kansas with Military 
Honors provided by the Army National Guard and Grainfield American 
Legion Post 301. A visitation will be held at Mickey-Leopold Funeral 
Home, on Monday, May 20, 2021 from 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. with

John Wesley Moore, 60, passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2021 in Salina, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born in Stuttgart, Arkansas on June 14, 1960, to Robert and Glenna Moore.

The Moore family moved from Arkansas to Phillipsburg, Kansas in 1972, as Robert accepted employment with TAMKO Roofing Products.&nbsp; John graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1978.&nbsp; He attended Kansas State University for several semesters before returning to Phillipsburg and working at TAMKO.&nbsp; He was the proud father of 3 boys, Joshua, Adam and Cody.

In April 1994, John met Cindy Timmons, and on April 25,1997, John and Cindy were married at their Glade, Kansas residence, living there until April 2008 when they moved to Bennington, Kansas, following the closure of Schult homes, where they were employed.

In 2011, John was diagnosed with an interstitial lung disease.&nbsp; John was a K State football fan, hunting enthusiast, and enjoyed watching his wife Cindy train and show her horses.

John successfully graduated from the Electronics program at North Central Kansas Area Vocation Technical School on May 11, 2012, earning an associates degree in Electronics.

As the interstitial lung disease progressed, John retired to the home.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his mother, Glenna.&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife, Cindy of the home in Bennington; his sons, Joshua of Olathe, Adam ( Kayla) of Phillipsburg, Cody of Phillipsburg; his father Robert of Phillipsburg; his sister, Vivian ( Jerry) Meyer of Phillipsburg; his brother, Carl ( Mashel) Moore of Alma, Nebraska; granddaughters Emma Schwenn and Savannah Moore of Phillipsburg.

Cremation was chosen.&nbsp; Memorial services and visitation to celebrate John's life will be held June 19, 2021 at 39 West Early Eve Road, Glade, Kansas, from 2pm to 5pm, and June 26, 2021 at the rodeo arena in Bennington, Kansas, from 11am to 3pm.

Carol Ann Kissinger, daughter of Willis and Cornelia Baldwin, was born April 25, 1945 in Coral Gables, Florida. Her father was in the U.S. Air Force so Carol lived in various places while growing up. &nbsp;In her teen years she began riding horses in Louisiana. &nbsp;She became an accomplished rider, and even competed in many horse shows. &nbsp;Her love of horses continued throughout her life.&nbsp; Her love of animals also included her Old English sheepdogs.

Carol met and fell in love with Don Kissinger while attending Kansas State University, where they shared a common interest in political science.&nbsp; They were married on July 8, 1967 at Offutt Air Force base, Nebraska.&nbsp; Don and Carol traveled the world together during their married life. Although they lived in many places during Don’s Air Force career, Carol became a very successful realtor while in northern Virginia. &nbsp;Carol made significant contributions to her husband’s career by always being active in civilian and base activities.

In 1997, Carol and Don chose to build their lovely home in Grand Junction, Colorado.&nbsp; They enjoyed the natural beauty of the Colorado National Monument as their backyard.&nbsp; She was active in the community, and served as president of the HOA for 14 years.&nbsp;

 Carol passed from this life on November 4, 2020 at the age of 75 years, after a lifetime of dealing with diabetes.&nbsp; 

She was preceded in death by her parents. &nbsp;

She will be forever remembered by her husband Don, Grand Junction, CO; her brother Willis L. Baldwin and wife Cindy, Evergreen, CO; and is survived by many dear friends around the U.S. and Europe.

A celebration of life service for family and friends will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Melby Mortuary, Mankato, Kansas with Pastor Thaddeus Hinkle officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Mankato. The service for Carol will be streamed live on the Hutchins Funeral Home, Franklin, Nebraska Facebook page.

Harold Loveland, 96, died December 13, 2020 in Clyde, KS.&nbsp; He was born on May 3, 1924 in Cloud County, KS, the son of Guy and Minnie (Motten) Loveland.&nbsp; Harold was raised in Cloud County.&nbsp; He attended Manning County School and was a graduate of Miltonvale High School class of 1942.&nbsp; 

He married Eloise Bulleigh on August 26, 1951.&nbsp; They farmed in Clay County.&nbsp; 

Eloise preceded him in death on August 5, 2008. &nbsp;He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Harvey Loveland.

BENNINGTON - Kody Brice Johnson, 29, passed away on May 15, 2021, from injuries sustained by head trauma.

Kody was raised in Bennington, Kansas. He loved dogs, camping, Xbox gaming, pro football, and KU basketball.

He is survived by his mother, Lynda Johnson, Bennington; sister, Amber Johnson, Wichita; sons, Kaisen and Kaiser and father, Rick Johnson, Center Point, Alabama.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 12, at 1 p.m. at the Bennington Cemetery.

A celebration of his life will follow at the Bennington Senior Center.

In lieu of flowers, please give donations to Kody Johnson Memorial at any Bennington State Bank. These donations will be set aside for his boys.

Clarence Marshall Garten, Jr. passed away May 17, 2021 at the age of 94. Clarence was born October 26, 1926 in Abilene, KS to Clarence Marshall Garten, Sr. and Marie Esther Sprinkel Garten. He attended Sand Springs School and graduated from Abilene High School in 1944.

Clarence was a 4-H member as a youth and as an adult was a leader and a 4-H Agent for Marion County. He was also a member of Rural Life. His occupation was a farmer/stockman. In 1957 he was Dickinson County Outstanding Farmer. He also took second place in Kansas Outstanding Farmer.

He was a member of the National Guard 1st Battalion, 137th Infantry Division and had an honorary discharge as a Corporal in 1952.

Clarence married Eileen Londene on September 11, 1949 at the First Methodist Church in Abilene, KS, and they raised five children together. This year would be their 72nd year together.

He was a member of the Emmanuel Church in Abilene. He met the Lord at a lay witness mission at age 43 and then he and Eileen coordinated lay witness missions for 28 years. They helped establish the Abilene Good News bookstore. He also was the chairman of Abilene Area Revivals for five years. He was a member of the Gideons, lay minister of the Lord’s Chapel in Talmage, leader of Bible studies for youth and adults and involved in Dickinson County Jail Ministry from the late 1970s-2017.

He is survived by his wife Eileen, and children Janette Fulton (Dennis) of Nampa, ID, Marsha Pavkov (Roger) of Salina, KS, Larry (Jean) of Olathe, KS, and Scott (Jamie) of Abilene, KS. He had 14 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. Proceeding him in death were his parents Clarence and Marie, brother Frank, and son Steven.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 21, 2021 at the Emmanuel Church in Abilene, KS. There will be a cookie reception following the service for the family to visit with friends and family. There will be a visitation with the family on Thursday night May 20, 2021 at the Abilene Senior Center from 5-7 at 100 N. Elm, Abilene.

Nellie Jean Terry, age 80, died on May 16, 2021 at the Salina Regional Health Center on her 64th wedding anniversary. She was born September 6, 1940 in Crescent, Oklahoma to Clarence and Helen (Stewart) Dodd. She attended school in Oklahoma where she played basketball and softball and graduated from Paradise High School in Paradise, Kansas. She was a member of the Baptist Church.

Nellie married Harold Terry on May 16, 1957 in Anadarko, OK. She worked in various restaurants and owned and operated Terry’s Sundries in Solomon, KS for 15 years. She loved entertaining family and friends and was known for her cooking.

Nellie was an avid card player and thoroughly enjoyed her card group in Solomon and her coffee club in Carter Lake, IA. Many hours were spent by her on bleachers watching children and grandchildren play various sporting activities. She was an OU Sooners fan and enjoyed watching the KC Royals and Oklahoma City Thunder games.

She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, four sisters, four brothers, a daughter-in-law, and a grandson.

Nellie is survived by her husband Harold Terry of Solomon; children – Alice of Salina; Harold Jr. (Lauri) of Salina; Bobby of Weatherford, TX; Donna Cargile (Toby) of Devine, TX; brother Gary Wright of Sandy, OR and sister Nancy DeGan of Clastskanie, OR. She has six grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, nine step-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, as well as her fur baby Misha.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 20, 2021 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the Carlson-Becker Funeral Home in Solomon, KS. Funeral service will be Friday, May 21, 2021 at 11 a.m. at the Methodist Church in Solomon, KS. Burial will follow at the Prairie Mound Cemetery, Solomon, KS.

David A. Leach died May 16, 2021 in Abilene, Kansas.

He was born April. 19, 1954, in Houston, the son of David Ivan Leach and Barbara J. (Cole) Leach. He grew up in Houston, Texas, later moving to Granger, Utah, where he graduated from Granger High School in 1972. 

Following high school, he joined the Army and retired from Fort Riley, Kansas after a 22-year career in 1994. He served in Desert Storm during 1991. 

He received a bachelor of science degree in healthcare management from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Illinois. Following his military retirement, he was employed by Russell Stover Chocolates, Abilene, KS and Ellsworth Correctional Facility, Ellsworth, KS.

Survivors include daughter Heather Nicole Ferrari (RJ), of Northglenn, CO, two granddaughters (Avalyn and Mackenzie) and son, David P. Leach, of Manhattan, KS.

Cremation is planned. There will be no visitation and private services will be at a later date. He will be inurned at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery near Manhattan, Kansas.

Charles "Chuck" Robert Simms II, 70, a resident of Salina, Kansas for many years and a resident of Littleton, CO of five years, passed away Sunday, December 6, 2020. Chuck was born in Pratt, KS on November 23, 1950, a son of the late Charles Robert Simms I and Jocelyn J. Simms.

Chuck graduated from Salina Central High school, class of 1968 and attended Kansas State University in both Manhattan, Kansas and Salina as well as Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, while pursuing an electrical engineering degree. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad as a conductor/trainman for 41 years until retiring in 2011 and then subsequently moving to Littleton, Colorado in 2015. His nickname at the railroad was “Smiley” because he always had a smile on his face.

Chuck was an avid biker, biking across Kansas seven times, accomplishing all routes both North, South and Central mapped routes starting at the Colorado state border ending at the Missouri state line, which included several 100-mile days. He enjoyed home brewing where he refined his concoctions to some delicious varieties of mead, lagers and IPAs including Pumpkin Pale Ale and Cherry Mash Mead, just to name a few. He loved music, hunting, fishing and all expressions of nature. Chuck was so happy living in Colorado where he enjoyed hiking in the Rocky Mountain National Park and living nearby in the beautiful foothills of the Colorado mountains, surrounded by animals and nature.

Chuck was a regular blood donor throughout much of his life. After his diagnosis of early onset Alzheimer’s in 2015, he continued to live openly about his diagnosis, always sharing and living his journey with grace. His love of his family, pets and community was always present and his kindness, smile and joy of life was contagious to all who met him. Through the local annual Denver Walk to End Alzheimer’s, Chuck’s team raised over a combined total of $15,000 the last three years, all of which goes directly towards research, support and family resources through the Alzheimer’s Association, a critical resource for all facing this disease. Chuck reminded us all that it’s all about the love.

Chuck leaves behind a loving family, Peggy Simms, wife of 49 years (Littleton, CO), son Jamey Simms (Austin, TX), daughter Jena Simms (Littleton, CO), pet dog Harrison (Littleton, CO). Other remaining living family members include his brother Shaun Simms (Salina, KS), sister-in-law Julie Simms (Salina, KS) as well as many extended family including brother and sisters- in-law, nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2021. Interment will be at 1 p.m. in All Saints Catholic Cemetery. Dedication of a sundial in Chuck's memory will be at 3 p.m. at Rolling Hills Zoo. A social will follow from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Rolling Hills Zoo Conference Center.

Marjorie Darlene (Phelps) Powell, age 71, of Salina, passed away Monday May 17, 2021 at Bethany Village in Lindsborg, KS. Marjorie was born December 30, 1949 in Salina to Clinton Wayne Phelps and Mildred Darlene (Yordy) Phelps. &nbsp; Marjorie graduated from Salina Central High School in 1967. After graduation she married the love of her life and they raised three children together. After putting her children through school, she chose to further her education by attending Salina Academy of Hair Design and graduated in 1987. After graduation she owned and operated her own beauty salon while working beside her husband at Sonic Drive ln.

Marjorie married Dennis William Powell on October 29, 1967 and through this union came three children: Mark (Tonya) Powell of Salina, Michelle (Shayne) Glavin of Bennington and Melissa (Esau) Bonner Jr, of Topeka.

Marjorie is survived by her husband of 53 years and their children. She is also survived by her siblings Larry (Connie) Phelps, of Abilene, Sue (Larry) Jameson, of Adrian, MI, Becky (Bob) Walters, of Hedville, Tom (Kim) Phelps of Salina, special friend Janet Jolley of Salina, a great number of nieces and nephews and nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

Marjorie enjoyed traveling and was an avid antique collector. Her favorite collections consisted of Depression glassware and Coca-Cola items. Marjorie also spent many hours researching genealogy and creating family history books which she enjoyed sharing with her loved ones. Marjorie was an active member of Bel Air Baptist Church. She was also actively involved in many projects through Hawthorn School. One of those was the Mother's Day Out Program, which was near and dear to her heart because Marjorie always believed "U Family comes First."

After graduation she married the love of her life and they raised three children together. After putting her children through school, she chose to further her education by attending Salina Academy of Hair Design and graduated in 1987. After graduation she owned and operated her own beauty salon while working beside her husband at Sonic Drive ln.Marjorie married Dennis William Powell on October 29, 1967 and through this union came three children: Mark (Tonya) Powell of Salina, Michelle (Shayne) Glavin of Bennington and Melissa (Esau) Bonner Jr, of Topeka.Marjorie is survived by her husband of 53 years and their children. She is also survived by her siblings Larry (Connie) Phelps, of Abilene, Sue (Larry) Jameson, of Adrian, MI, Becky (Bob) Walters, of Hedville, Tom (Kim) Phelps of Salina, special friend Janet Jolley of Salina, a great number of nieces and nephews and nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.Marjorie enjoyed traveling and was an avid antique collector. Her favorite collections consisted of Depression glassware and Coca-Cola items. Marjorie also spent many hours researching genealogy and creating family history books which she enjoyed sharing with her loved ones. Marjorie was an active member of Bel Air Baptist Church. She was also actively involved in many projects through Hawthorn School. (Barker) Haubein. &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; God came to Wendell in holy baptism at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lockwood, Missouri on February 5, 1939 and established a covenant with him and remained faithful to that covenant coming to him again and again with the assurance of forgiveness. &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; Wendell learned more about the meaning of that covenant as he reviewed the basic truths of the bible and made public confession of his faith in the rite of confirmation on Palm Sunday, March 21, 1948 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lockwood, Missouri.&nbsp; The Triune God continued to remind him of His presence through word and sacrament as he faithfully worshiped and communed through the years. &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; In 1956, he graduated from the University of Missouri School of Mines &amp; Metallurgy (MU of S&amp;T) and worked for a number of aerospace companies in California and Illinois for 23 years. &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; Wendell was united in marriage to Georgia N. Teague on January 26, 1956.&nbsp; They were members of St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Fullerton, CA when Wendell entered Concordia Theological Seminary in Ft. Wayne, IN to study for the holy ministry.&nbsp; At St. Stephen Wendell was active in all areas of church administration and taught adult bible class for 16 years.&nbsp;&nbsp; In January 1981 he began serving St. John Lutheran, Lohman, Missouri as a deferred vicar.&nbsp;&nbsp; On December 4, 1981 he was ordained and installed as the pastor of St. John and served there until 1985. &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; In April 1985, Wendell accepted the call to Trinity Lutheran Church, Salina, KS where he served as associate pastor and then as senior pastor from 1989 until he retired in October 1996. &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; In retirement they lived in Bolivar and Marshfield, Missouri. Wendell continued to serve as supply pastor for congregations throughout Missouri and also served as a volunteer with CMH Hospice of Bolivar. &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; In their marriage, Georgia and Wendell were blessed with three daughters, Teresa Lyn Chiusolo, Michele Ann Williams and Brenda Renee Nelson. They had 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; Georgia received the final victory when Jesus took her to her heavenly home.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; On September 1, 2007, Wendell and Dianne Kay Dir were married in Salina where they made their home until his death.&nbsp; He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; An additional three daughters joined Wendell’s family through this marriage.&nbsp;&nbsp; Genee’ D. Lindstrom, RaShelle’ D. Hook and LaNette’ R. Robert Smith, 64, of Salina, passed away on Monday, May 3, 2021. He was born June 28, 1956 in Buffalo, New York.

He had many jobs and adventures in his life. Growing up in a military family he moved a lot as a kid. At 16 he moved to Brooklyn by himself. He soon took to the open road, quick driving a semi for most his life, and riding his bike just as much. He eventually needed a new challenge and created Bob's Taxi in the early 2000s and was very successful until 2008. Later in life he joined a fellowship of Christians called Brothers in Blue that went into prisons to help and guide anyone that asked.

He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Nancy Smith; wife Glenda Ann Smith; and brother Matthew Leroy Smith.

Survivors include his children Crystal Ann Frank of Salina, Robert Thomas Smith of Leavenworth; brother Thomas J. Smith; sisters, Cathy A. Noll and Tina L. Robinson; and four grandchildren he adored more then anything, Meghan J. Frank, Eric A. Frank, Thomas E. Lunschen&nbsp; and Judah M. Hunter.

He was a man that would give you his last dollar, hours of his time, always lend a ear without asking anything in return. Humble and honest and worked his entire life to help and take care of the ones he loved. He will be missed by many… and forgotten by none.

At the end he was in severe pain every hour of the day. Just remember he is no longer in that pain and he is finally at peace with his wife and family that left before him.

Graveside services will be held on a date to be determined at Gypsum Hill Cemetery, 2020 E. Iron, Salina.

Diana Jean Gallegos, 79, of Galatia, Kansas, passed away peacefully at
 her home on May 16, 2021. She was born April 28, 1942, in La Crosse, 
Kansas, to Alex Joseph and Leona (VonFeldt) Engel.

She married the love of her life, Raymond Gallegos, on December 31, 
1994, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays, Kansas. She attended La 
Crosse High School and studied cosmetology in Denver, Colorado.

She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Olmitz, Kansas and 
was a volunteer at St. Anne’s Thrift Shop in Marianna, Florida.

She was a manager of many restaurants and clubs throughout the years 
and was the owner of Backroads Bar &amp; Grill in Galatia, along with 
her husband, for many years.

Survivors include: her husband, Raymond, of the home; one daughter, 
Saska (Greg) Pfannenstiel of Hays; one son, Joe (Helen) Lewis of Salina;
 5 grandchildren, Jesse (Audrey) Lewis, Danielle Pfannenstiel, and 
Dalton, Joey and Wyatt Lewis; and 5 great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Braden, 
Keaton and Addilyn Lewis and Atlas Lewis; a sister-in-law, Donna Engel 
Schmidtberger; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father Cyrene 
Kreutzer; a son, Michael Lewis; three brothers, Hal Michael Engel, 
Merrill Engel and Duane Engel; and a sister-in-law, Mary Engel.

Donald (Don) Julius Lundquist passed away peacefully on May 15, 2021, surrounded by family at Riverview Estates in Marquette, Kansas. Don was born on April 12, 1931, the son of Abner R. and Martha Hawkinson Lundquist on the family farm near Fremont, Kansas, the youngest of four children. 

He lived and farmed in the Fremont and Marquette communities except for two years in the Army from 1953-1955. 

Don attended grade school at Fremont then Lindsborg High School, graduating in 1948. He attended a radio and electronics trade school in Omaha for a year after graduation. He returned to the family farm in partnership with his father and brother, LaVern in the 1950s and continued to farm in the valley until 2001. The partnership also had a cattle-feeding operation.


He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers LaVern (Eleanor) and Virgil (Doris), sister Adeline (John) Hult and his first wife Pattie.



On October 25, 1952, Don was united in marriage to Pattie D. Steele in McPherson. Together, they farmed in the Fremont area for 49 years. One daughter, Rebecca (Becky) Dawn was born to this union in 1960. Pattie passed away on December 29, 2001.



Don spent most of his farming years growing irrigated crops along the Smoky Hill River east of Fremont. He won many awards for his excellent crops of corn and soybeans, including the National Corn Growers Meritorious Service Award in 1996 and the first-ever Corn Impact Award from the Kansas Corn Growers in 2018.

Don was a past director of the Kansas Livestock Association. He was past president of the Kansas Corn Growers and served for nine years as Kansas director of the National Corn Growers. He traveled to Washington, D.C. several times while working on various committees formulating farm bills and developing new uses for corn, including ethanol and biodegradable plastics. Don and Pat attended many corn growers conventions across the United States developing lifetime friendships. 

He also was an active member of the American Legion, including many years of service on the Honor Guard.

Avid Kansas State football fans, Don and Pat were season ticket holders for many years. Purple was the color of the day for Saturdays with a special group of family and friends. 4-H was a family program for them with Becky in the 1970s and later in the 1990s with their grandsons Kyle, Kevin and Kurtis in Miami County. Don and Pat followed Becky through her school events and then continued with the three grandsons in later years. Grandpa and Grandma were in the stands to cheer them on in all kinds of activities.



On April 10, 2004, Don married Dixie A. Lindstrom at the Freemount Lutheran Church. They made their home in Marquette. 

Don continued to farm in retirement west of Marquette with Dixie and family.
Family was very important to Don. He loved working and playing with the extended Lundquist, Steele and Lindstrom families. Don was a loving, caring husband, father and grandfather who gave a lot of time to nurture his family in health and in sickness. 

Farming was his occupation as well as his hobby. Reading usually included a farm magazine or articles on the computer about farming. He never retired from learning about farming.



Don was currently a member of Elim Lutheran Church in Marquette, after being a lifetime member of the Freemount Lutheran Church. He served on the church council for many years, including two terms as chairman. He enjoyed serving on the cemetery committee, taking over the Freemount Cemetery record keeping from 2001-2013. He enjoyed learning about the cemetery from his mentor, Paul Danielson, through the years. Don served on the Freemount Church Foundation board from 2004-2014. 

Although officially retiring from farming in 2001, he continued to help on the farm for Daryl Shields in the valley and Shayne Fox in Marquette for several years. 

Don and Dixie enjoyed many trips across the country. Cattle shows, especially when granddaughters Kylie and Kayla were showing, became a new hobby for Don and Dixie as well as attending some corn growers conventions and meetings. 



Don and Dixie moved to Marquette to live in town in 2004 after always living on a farm for over 50 years. During these years the Marquette grandkids became a new adventure for Don and Dixie. They kept “Pappo” young at heart while retiring in Marquette. Known for his great hugs with his family and friends, Don truly enjoyed talking to all his many friends. If you were his friend, you could count on a hug with every hello and goodbye. We will miss those great hugs, Donnie!!

Don was born on April 12, 1931, the son of Abner R. and Martha Hawkinson Lundquist on the family farm near Fremont, Kansas, the youngest of four children. He lived and farmed in the Fremont and Marquette communities except for two years in the Army from 1953-1955. 

Don attended grade school at Fremont then Lindsborg High School, graduating in 1948. He attended a radio and electronics trade school in Omaha for a year after graduation. He returned to the family farm in partnership with his father and brother, LaVern in the 1950s and continued to farm in the valley until 2001. The partnership also had a cattle-feeding operation.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers LaVern (Eleanor) and Virgil (Doris), sister Adeline (John) Hult and his first wife Pattie.

On October 25, 1952, Don was united in marriage to Pattie D. Steele in McPherson. Together, they farmed in the Fremont area for 49 years. One daughter, Rebecca (Becky) Dawn was born to this union in 1960. Pattie passed away on December 29, 2001.

Don spent most of his farming years growing irrigated crops along the Smoky Hill River east of Fremont. John was the third of five boys and grew up on the family farm seven miles southeast of Corn. He died on May 15, 2021 in Hillsboro, Kansas, reaching, by God’s mercy, the age of 96 years, 10 months and 6 days. He received his grade school education at Friendship Country School in Washita County and graduated from Corn High School in 1942. He also earned a Bible diploma at Corn Bible Academy in the year following high school graduation, The Vogt family attended the Mennonite Brethren Church where John received Christ as personal Savior at a young age and was baptized and received as a member. He participated in youth activities, sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. After high school, John served in Civilian Public Service in Fort Collins, Colorado, Farnhurst, Delaware, (a hospital unit) and Clear Spring, Maryland, where he was business manager and educational director. He graduated from Tabor College in Hillsboro, KS in 1950 and received a master’s degree in secondary education at Oklahoma University in 1951. He went on to earn his doctor of education degree in 1970 from Oklahoma University in Norman, OK.

He taught a total of 41 years at schools in Oklahoma and Kansas. Among these were Alta Vista, KS, Corn Bible Academy, Tabor College, Oklahoma University, El Reno Jr. High School, Moore, Oklahoma as an administrator and counselor, and after earning his doctorate, taught at Southern Nazarene University. The final 21 years of teaching were completed at Sterling College, in Sterling, Kansas. Christian Education was always his first consideration and passion. At Tabor College he met Hilda Ann Thiessen from Inman, Kansas. They were married at the Zoar M. B. Church in Inman, KS on May 31, 1949. Three children were born into this home: two daughters, Brenda Jean and Janette Lynne and one son, Michael John. Special joys with children and grandchildren included family vacations, birthdays, camping and spending holidays together as a family. John especially enjoyed serving Christ in a lay-ministry capacity in several churches in Oklahoma and Kansas while involved in Christian education. During the last 14 years before retirement, he served as lay minister at the Hopewell Presbyterian Church near Beloit, KS while teaching at Sterling College John retired from Sterling College in May of 1989. Three years after retirement, John and Hilda moved to Hillsboro, Kansas where they joined the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church, and enjoyed the privilege of serving in various capacities, including the office of deacons and church council. He also filled a need at Tabor College supervising secondary student teachers for the education department. Retirement presented them many opportunities for volunteer work in the community. John served on the board of directors for Parkside Homes, delivered Meals on Wheels, volunteered at the Et Cetera shop, participated in Christian Businessmen’s prayer group and was part of many volunteer projects at Tabor College, including a year in which he helped restore the stained glass in the chapel. John enjoyed singing with the Kansas Mennonite Men’s Chorus for about 28 years. John and Hilda also served as tour directors for Prudent Tours of Hillsboro, Kansas, an experience which saw them visiting Canada, South America, Mexico and many interesting parts of the United States. They also took their own trips to Europe and Hawaii. In November of 2006, John and Hilda moved into Park Village apartments in Hillsboro, which later became assisted living. He lost his beloved wife, Hilda, in February of 2015. In October, 2017, John moved to Parkside Homes. John was especially grateful for the kindness and care of the Parkside staff and community who helped him face the challenges of declining strength and blindness. Robert C. Perkins, 92, of Lindsborg, Kansas, and formerly of McPherson, passed away at 8:10 a.m., Saturday, May 15, 2021 while in the company of his loving wife, at Bethany Home. Bob was born in McPherson, Kansas on June 20, 1928, a son of Susie Marie (Rogers) and Charlie Francis Perkins. Bob attended Lincoln Grade School, McPherson Junior High school and graduated from McPherson High School in 1946. He later attended McPherson College, McPherson, Kansas and the FBI Academy, Washington D.C. He attended First Christian Church, McPherson. He served in the National Guard of Kansas as a Pvt. First Class. He also served in the U.S. Air Force as a Staff Sergeant in the Korean War and was honorably discharged. He received the United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Metal, Korean Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, SO Hq 6580th ABGRU. Robert Clayton "Bob" Perkins was united in marriage to Sandra Grace Hale on January 7, 1956 at the First Christian Church, McPherson, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in McPherson. This union was blessed with the birth of three children, two sons and one daughter, Steven, Randall, and Beth. Through the years, Bob worked in housing construction, and worked for the McPherson City Police Department for 35 years with 22 of those years as police chief. Bob was a member of the McPherson Shrine Club, Isis Temple of Salina, Kansas, Free Masonry; Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, life member of the American Legion Post 24, Kansas Peace Officers Association, Boy Scouts, Amateur Radio Club, Disabled American Veterans Commanders Club, life member of the Kansas Assn. of Chiefs of Police. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over 65 years, Sandra G. Perkins, of Lindsborg, Kansas; his children, Steven R. Perkins and wife Marilyn, of McPherson, Kansas, Randall C. Perkins and wife Shari, of McPherson, Kansas, and Beth M. He received the United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Metal, Korean Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, SO Hq 6580th ABGRU. Robert Clayton "Bob" Perkins was united in marriage to Sandra Grace Hale on January 7, 1956 at the First Christian Church, McPherson, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in McPherson. This union was blessed with the birth of three children, two sons and one daughter, Steven, Randall, and Beth. Through the years, Bob worked in housing construction, and worked for the McPherson City Police Department for 35 years with 22 of those years as police chief. Bob was a member of the McPherson Shrine Club, Isis Temple of Salina, Kansas, Free Masonry; Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, life member of the American Legion Post 24, Kansas Peace Officers Association, Boy Scouts, Amateur Radio Club, Disabled American Veterans Commanders Club, life member of the Kansas Assn. of Chiefs of Police. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over 65 years, Sandra G. Perkins, of Lindsborg, Kansas; his children, Steven R. Perkins and wife Marilyn, of McPherson, Kansas, Randall C. Perkins and wife Shari, of McPherson, Kansas, and Beth M. Hopp and husband Robert, of Abilene, Kansas; his six grandchildren, Tracy Morgan (Danny), Daniel Perkins, Justin Perkins (Cheryl), Brenton Perkins (Stephanie), Adam Hopp, and Owen Hopp (Melissa); his eight great-grandchildren, Austin Morgan (Lorrin), Alex Perkins (Kendall), Emilee Perkins, Skyler Perkins, Natalee Perkins, Cora Perkins, George Perkins, and Brenna Perkins; his three great-greatgrandchildren, Brynlee Morgan, Lyla Morgan, and Ava Perkins; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Susie and Charlie Perkins; two brothers, Dempsey Duncon and Don Edward Perkins; and two sisters, Priscilla Dean Boblet and Rosella Lee Tipton. Visitation will beheld on Friday, May 21, 2021 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Glidden - Ediger Chapel, McPherson. The memorial service will be held at Glidden - Ediger Chapel, McPherson, Kansas, at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 22, 2021 with Pastor Robert H. Park officiating. Final resting place will be at the McPherson Cemetery McPherson, Kansas with military honors presented by members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 and the American Legion Post 24, both of McPherson, and Taps played by Mark Casebeer.
