SALINA - Rev. Franklyn Pekarek, 79, passed away on July 10, 2021 at Salina Regional Health Center.&nbsp; In the minutes before death, the Lord gave Frank the opportunity to tell each member of his family how much he loved them, gave last minute guidance with their lives, and said “goodbye.”&nbsp; Throughout this time, he kept telling his family that he was so excited to see Jesus.&nbsp; He passed&nbsp; at 7:35 a.m.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Franklyn Pekarek was born in Cicero, Illinois on March 27, 1942 to Frank E. and Mildred (Mesha) Pekarek.&nbsp; He lived his early life in Chicago, and moved to Kansas where he served as an intern in the Lutheran Church in Lindsborg, KS.&nbsp; While there, he met his future wife, Shirley.&nbsp; During his 48-year ministry, he served churches in Kansas and Colorado.&nbsp;

During his lifetime, Frank enjoyed reading history books, Civil War Reenacting, and visiting with his friends.&nbsp; His family was always very important to him.

He is survived by his wife Shirley (Dahlsten) Pekarek; daughters: Jennifer Pekarek of Salina, Leanne Grauerholz (Byron) of Salina; son, Brian Pekarek (Robyn) of Abilene; grandchildren are Ellie and Ben Grauerholz of Salina, and Seth, Thad, and Bobbi Pekarek of Abilene; other family members include a sister, Betty Cillo, nephew Don Cillo of Temple, TX; niece Pat Mitchell, of Las Cruces, NM; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jerry and Lo Dahlsten (MN); and nieces Jill Dahlsten and Carol Stevens (Jon) and daughter Brooke.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Smoky Valley Historical Association for the care and upkeep of Coronado Heights, Lindsborg, KS.&nbsp; 

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Salina, 702 9th Street, at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 16.&nbsp; Burial will be done privately at Coronado Heights Cemetery in Lindsborg, KS.

Jeremy Kinderknecht, 45, passed away Friday, July 9, 2021 at home surrounded by his family after a 1.5 year fight with cancer.&nbsp;

Jeremy was born May 7, 1976.&nbsp; Growing up Jeremy was one of a kind.&nbsp; If you knew him, you definitely have a story to tell.&nbsp; He loved building things from a young age.&nbsp; He continued to build his entire life.&nbsp; Jeremy never had plans, he only used his vision. &nbsp;He traveled all over the United States building beautiful structures for people.&nbsp; Right before he was diagnosed with cancer, he finished building a beautiful home for his family.&nbsp;

He lived by never giving up or backing down.&nbsp; All he wanted in life was to protect and provide for his family which was everything to him.&nbsp;

Jeremy is survived by his loving wife, Jami; three amazing kids, Miriah, Jerzie, and Eastyn; dad, Mark Kinderknecht (Penny); mom Linda Patrick (Rhea); mother-in-law Judy Piercy (Keith Teasley); brother-in-law Craig Piercy (Melissa); sisters Tracy Kinderknecht, Rani Kinderknecht; brother Paul Kinderknecht (Sara); grandmother Noni; nieces and nephews Koltyn, Kyler, Kasyn, Kytsyn, Graci, Knox, Darion, Braden, Chevale, Jakx, Julian, Zeya; and many cousins, aunts, and uncles.&nbsp; &nbsp;

SALINA - Marilyn Elizabeth Rich, 80, &nbsp;passed away at home on July 7, 2021 in Salina, Kansas. She was born in Buffalo, New York on May 7, 1941 to Pastor Howard T. Rich and Marguerite E. Rich. &nbsp;The family moved several times in the early years and lived briefly in Harlingen, TX and Philadelphia, MS and Rosedale, MS before settling in Johnson City, TN for most of Marilyn’s teenage years. Then in 1959, Marilyn went to Memphis &nbsp;where she attended Baptist Hospital School of Nursing for her RN degree. &nbsp;Parents Howard and Marguerite would later move to Memphis in 1971. &nbsp;

In 1962, she married Gerald W. Smith and settled in West Memphis, AR where they had three children: Mark, Teri and Timothy. &nbsp;Marilyn served in a local community health clinic there until moving to Salina, Kansas in 1974. She would then go on to serve for over 30 years at the Salina Regional Medical Center (then “Asbury Hospital”) in the emergency room, ambulatory services and endoscopy departments. She was devoted to direct patient care throughout her career.

Marilyn was a woman of great faith and an active member of First Southern Baptist Church in Salina, KS, singing in the choir and teaching Sunday school. She and her husband, Sid, were also regular volunteers for several community service projects, providing food to the hungry and sharing the gospel with everyone they encountered. One of her favorite activities was to take “blessing bags” with candies and cookies to retail workers who had to work on the holidays which often prompted a conversation about her faith.&nbsp; &nbsp;

She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Sidney C. Rich, as well as her three children:&nbsp; Mark Smith and wife Donna; Teri Hall and her husband Kent, and Timothy Smith and his wife, Diana. She is also survived by her two younger brothers, Burt with his wife, Norma; and Ted with his wife, Vicki.&nbsp; In addition, Marilyn leaves seven grandchildren:&nbsp; Grayson, Shelby, Millicent, Caleb, Grant, Daniel and Cassie; and three great-grandchildren: Maximus, Eloise and Carson.&nbsp; She was preceded by both parents and one grandson, Tyler.

Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Sunday, July 18, 2021 with a memorial service following at 2 p.m. all at First Southern Baptist Church, Salina.&nbsp;

Judith is survived by her husband Michael of Salina, KS; son Bradley Dolson (Michele) of Lincoln, NE; grandsons Alex Dolson (Deia Montezano) of Marion, IA; Nick Dolson (Hayley) and grea-grandson Mason of Lincoln, NE; and granddaughter Hallie Pugliese (Anthony) of Loveland, CO. Bob grew up in Lawrence, KS where he became a solid Rock Chalk Jayhawk!&nbsp; He then went on to join the Air Force. He was stationed in Salina (Schilling) as an air traffic controller.&nbsp; After service, he became an electrician.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He was owner of AAA Electric as well as being a Master Electrician for the Electrical Union. He was also Sr Project Manager for Citadel Electric which included projects&nbsp; such as building the Russell Stover Plant in Abilene and many jobs at Ft. Riley for the Army Corps of Engineering. His favorite was the 1st Division Headquarters of the U.S. Army, Ft. Riley. Bob took pride in safety and never lost a crew member.

Bob was an active member for the Elks Lodge where he was promoted to Exalted Ruler.&nbsp; He served as golf course Superintendent for the Elks (Great Life)&nbsp; transforming the grounds to a beautiful green oasis!

Avid golfer proudly reporting 3 holes in one! Two of which he achieved after age 80 with his final hole in one while golfing with his 3 grandsons Tanner, Dylon, and Sam at the age of 82!

Loved ones that will miss him include his wife, Andrea Davis, daughters: Debra Davis,Bobbi (Mike) Mull, Pamela (Dan) Collins, Stacy (Jason) Klein,&nbsp; Anna (Rod) Smith, Cynthia (Jeremy) Halpain, Rene (Patrick) Parker, brother Larry (Barbara) Brizendine, sister Stella Lambert.&nbsp; He also is a beloved grandfather of 22, and 19 great grandchildren as well as countless “adopted children,” relatives, and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Geneva Davis, wife Ann Davis, and son Jon Gonzales.

Funeral services for Jose F. Garcia, age 35, of Abilene, will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene. Mr. Garcia passed away July 6, 2021 in Abilene. He was born June 26, 1986 in Eugene, Oregon, the son of Federico Garcia and Lorie Brood. He had been an Abilene resident for the past 12 years. Jose graduated from high school in Kelso, Washington and served his country in the United States Navy. He enjoyed bowling, working with tools, trips to the Pacific coast, fishing, volunteered with the Abilene &amp; Smokey Valley Railroad, collecting and recycling, coin collecting and watching the Simpsons. But his greatest joy was spending time with his family. He is survived by his companion Rheannon Jeffrey of the home, step-children Kristofer and Elizabeth Holman of the home, mother Lorie and her husband Ben Calvert of Bucyrus, Kansas, father Federico Garcia of Springfield, Oregon, sister Petra and her husband Adam Mattson of Longview, Washington. Cremation is planned.

Friends may sign the register book until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

He was born June 26, 1986 in Eugene, Oregon, the son of Federico Garcia and Lorie Brood. He had been an Abilene resident for the past 12 years. Jose graduated from high school in Kelso, Washington and served his country in the United States Navy. He enjoyed bowling, working with tools, trips to the Pacific coast, fishing, volunteered with the Abilene &amp; Smokey Valley Railroad, collecting and recycling, coin collecting and watching the Simpsons. But his greatest joy was spending time with his family. He is survived by his companion Rheannon Jeffrey of the home, step-children Kristofer and Elizabeth Holman of the home, mother Lorie and her husband Ben Calvert of Bucyrus, Kansas, father Federico Garcia of Springfield, Oregon, sister Petra and her husband Adam Mattson of Longview, Washington. Willis’ life began on February 11, 1941, in the Hillsboro Hospital.&nbsp; He was the son of Curtis R. and Winifred (Nansen) Peterson.&nbsp; Willis was in the first graduating class of Centre High School (1959). He played football and was in the band.&nbsp; He continued his education at Kansas State University where he was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity (Alpha Iota Chapter) and Army ROTC. Willis graduated in 1964 with a degree in milling technology.&nbsp; 

Willis operated the Cargill Mill in Wichita for 15 plus years and previously, he worked in the oil fields.&nbsp; Farming his land was his true calling and during his working life he commuted 80 miles each way nearly every day to be able to live on his farm. After retiring in 2004 from Cargill Mill he continued to farm in Morris and Marion counties. He was a member of Hebron Lutheran Church in Burdick and also attended Aulne Church. Willis enjoyed collecting agricultural antiques.&nbsp; 

He was united in marriage to the former Karyn “Sue” Glenn on July 3, 2004, at Marion County Lake.&nbsp; His loving family includes his wife Sue of Marion, children Daine (Kat) Peterson of Hillsboro, Curtis (Marcy) Peterson of Holcomb, and Troy (Chris) Peterson of Lincolnville; grandchildren Amanda, Dakota, Cheyenne, Avery, Ty, Jon, Sydnee, Jakob, Nick, Emilee, Tucker, Michael, Sabrina, Brandon, Taylor, Hannah and Grace; several great-grandchildren; his twin brother Warren Peterson of Sedona, AZ and niece and nephew Sam and Katie. Willis will also be missed by his beloved fur babies Zoey, Suzy and Pia.&nbsp; 

Willis was preceded in death by his beloved infant son David Joel and his faithful dog Bobby.&nbsp; 

His family will gather with friends for his memorial service on Saturday July 17 at 10 a.m. in the Marion County Lake Shelter House on the east side of the lake.&nbsp;

Linda Louise (Ayers) Foster, 65, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, July 8, 2021 after a long battle of COPD and lung cancer. Linda was born on September 27, 1955 to William Carson and Thelma Rose &nbsp;Ayres in Arkansas. 

As a child, she excelled in many sports, especially basketball. After graduating from Hill City, Kansas High School in 1973 she was awarded a basketball scholarship to Colby Community College. She was an excellent cook and pursued that as her lifetime career. She took several classes and became a certified baker. Linda was known to make the best homemade cinnamon rolls around. Linda served as a baker and cook at school and at McPherson Hospital where she retired 18 months ago. 

Linda loved to bake her famous cinnamon rolls, to play bingo, thoroughly enjoyed scratching lottery tickets for winners, enjoyed being with people, and being at her children and grandchildren’s sporting events which she seldom missed. She was also a big KU fan. Her kindness to others will always be remembered. 

She is preceded in death by her father; three sisters, Lucille, Shirley, Brenda; and four brothers, Larry, Jerry, Alvin, and Kenny Ayers. 

She is survived by her mother Thelma Ayers; brother and his wife, Kim and Lana Ayers; four sons, Brian Billinger of Newton, Bradley Billinger of Canton, Kansas, Brent Billinger of Canton, Kansas, Christopher Billinger of Herington, Kansas; two daughters, Brandy Gutierrez of Great Bend, Kansas and Krystal Billinger of McPherson, Kansas; 11 grandchildren. 

Linda’s wishes were to not have a funeral service, but to have a life celebration memorial service which will be announced at a later time.

BILLINGS, MT - Marian Louise Rahmeier Frederking, 91, longtime Salina resident, was called home to her savior, July 4, 2021, in Billings, MT.&nbsp; Marian was born in Ellsworth, KS, Sept. 12, 1929 to Henry and Laura (Pflughoeft) Rahmeier, Jr.&nbsp; Marian married the love her life Walter Frederking, Oct 31, 1948, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Sylvan Grove.

Marian graduated from Sylvan Grove Public High School and attended Brown Mackie School of Business in Salina.&nbsp; She was a secretarial worker prior to taking time to raise her family and then spent 21 years at Great Plains Insurance Company, retiring in 1993.&nbsp; Marian is fondly remembered for giving selflessly of her time and talents to her family, friends, community and church.&nbsp; Marian shared her talent for painting and sewing with family and her paintings and sewing projects are still enjoyed today.

She is survived by children David Frederking (Kim); Rebecca Voelzke, Ruth Terry and Esther Roth; grandchildren Jesika Doty, Matt Frederking (Melissa), Adam Frederking (Myka), Chris Frederking (Venessa), David Terry (Katya), Nick Roth (Jennifer) and Taylor Roth; and great-grandchildren, Liam Doty; Rylee, Hadley, Canyon, Samuel, Sadie and Eli Frederking, Sarah Hale; Asher, Jonas and Noah Roth; sister Gertie Brown; and sister-in-law Alice Rahmeier.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents, brother Ernie Rahmeier; sons-in-law John Terry and Joseph Roth; grandson-in-law Doug Doty; and granddaughter April Frederking.

Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. Friday, July 16, 2021 at Ryan Mortuary, Salina.

Thomas Andrew “TC” Collins, 82, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, July 7, at Bethany Home, Lindsborg, Kansas. Thomas was born in Independence, Missouri on October 3, 1938, the only child of the late Katherine L. (Webb) and Andrew W. Collins. TC Graduated from Trail High School Class of 1956, served three years in the United States Army from September 19,1960 to September 19,1963 and then attended Marymount College. TC worked as the sales manager for Pop- A-Shot, Salina, Kansas from 1981 until retirement in 2017. He was the head women’s coach at Marymount college for volleyball and basketball, the head men’s baseball coach and co-coach of the Marymount ‘Spartans’ men’s basketball program. TC spent several years as a coach of youth baseball in the city of Salina. He was head coach for the city of Salina's American Legion “Falcons” baseball team. TC was also a volunteer PA announcer for the national women’s junior college basketball tournament and the 4A state championship girls volleyball and girls and boys basketball tournaments. He was also an avid bicyclist. He served as a camp director and active coach for Heart of America Sports Camps for 30 years and was awarded an appreciation plaque from Marymount College for his 30 years of service to the Heart of America Sports Camps, Marymount College of Kansas, and Midwestern Youth. TC spent several years as a coach of youth baseball in the city of Salina. He was head coach for the city of Salina's American Legion “Falcons” baseball team. TC was also a volunteer PA announcer for the national women’s junior college basketball tournament and the 4A state championship girls volleyball and girls and boys basketball tournaments. He was also an avid bicyclist. He served as a camp director and active coach for Heart of America Sports Camps for 30 years and was awarded an appreciation plaque from Marymount College for his 30 years of service to the Heart of America Sports Camps, Marymount College of Kansas, and Midwestern Youth. Ferril was born in Dodge City, Kansas on October 1, 1928, a son of Wanita I. (Jenkins) and Forrest F. Heling. Sun Cha Miles “Cha Cha”, 68, was born in Seoul, South Korea, on September 21, 1952, and passed away in Salina, Kansas, on December 25, 2020. She is preceded in death by her father Yong Ok Yun; mother Dong Su Kim; and niece Jihae Yun. Survivors include husband Steven Kelly Miles of Salina; siblings: five brothers and three sisters, elder sister, Sun Ok Kerby of Salina and husband James (Jim) L. Kerby, nephew, James Y. Kerby of Salina, niece, Melissi Kerby of Gardner; great-niece “granddaughter” Aaliyah Sun Kerby; brothers, Suk Bong Yun of South Korea, Sun Bong Yun of South Korea, Who Bong Yun of South Korea, Suk Whan Yun of South Korea, and Chun Bong Yun of South Korea; sisters, Soon Bok Yun of South Korea, and Soon Mi Yun of South Korea; and a total of 46 nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Cha Cha came to America in 1973 and took pride in when she earned her American citizenship in 1977. She worked for Tony’s Pizza for 28 years and retired in 2016 as a sanitation lead.&nbsp;

Cha Cha and Steve were married on November 6, 1982 in Junction City, Kansas. They were married for 38 years and have resided in Salina since 1988. She was a devoted and loving wife to Steve whom she called “Kelly” or “Boo Boo”. She loved him so dearly and always spoke about his loving nature towards her. She always spoke about how she loved her life and how he made it the best life for her. She adored his family because they welcomed her with open arms and treated her with such love and kindness. 

Her bond with her sister, Sun Ok, was inseparable and they were by each other’s side for her whole life. She was like a little sister and created a special bond with her brother-in-law, Jim. Cha Cha had a special connection with her niece, Melissi “Mish”, and her “granddaughter”, Aaliyah. Her love and dedication to Aaliyah was unbreakable and she loved her with all her heart. 

Cha Cha loved her three dogs: Annabelle, Kaliyan and Charlie. She loved to cook, bake, garden and was always learning new things. She took pride in homemaking and being able to share her amazing treats and dishes with others. Cha Cha loved to travel and enjoyed thrill seeking activities like white water rafting and zip lining. She was known for her energetic spirit, loving nature, and the excitement and passion in her voice.&nbsp;

The memorial service for Sun Cha Miles will be Saturday, July 17, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. 8th St, Salina, KS. Interment will follow at Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina, KS.

Gail D. Menard, 81, of Broken Arrow, OK and formerly of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at his home in Broken Arrow. 

Gail Dean Menard was born on August 27, 1939, in Concordia, Kansas to John Julian Menard and Regina Bernadette Marcotte. Gail had two siblings, an older brother Donald Menard, and a younger brother Gary Menard who proceeded him in death in 2011. Gail was blessed in a 50-year union with the late Carolyn LeBlanc in Clyde, Kansas and from that marriage had four children. The first of their children was a son, Galen born in Concordia, Kansas. After a move to Clay Center, Kansas, the addition of two daughters, Lori and Lisa further enriched their lives and family. Lori proceeded him in death in 2018. In 1961, the family relocated to McPherson and later added another daughter, Lana. Gail enjoyed employment in the insurance business, as a radio announcer, and then as a salesman for McPherson Business Machines. He would later become general manager and owner of this business. Later in life, Gail sold his business and returned to radio as an account executive for Radio Kansas. In 2007, Gail joined in marriage to Ila Fae Mackey in Oklahoma City. This union brought Gail so much happiness and enabled him to continue his love of travel, taking them coast to coast and on several cruises. His life was also enriched by adding Ila’s adult children and grandchildren. They made their home in Owasso, Oklahoma before moving to Silver Arrow Independent Living in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma due to Gail’s health condition. Gail’s love for the Lord made music and bible teaching an important part of his life. Not only was he a member of many church choirs through the years, his love of music would lead him to helping orchestrate a group called SGM which promoted Southern Gospel Music groups to perform in McPherson. Other interests were playing golf, astronomy, cards, and watching sports. But playing the card game Pitch is what brought out his competitive side. Better known as Ampa and Papa, Gail was especially proud of his nine grandchildren: Lindsey (Matthew), Josh (Rachelle), Tara (Hugh), Sydney (Josh), Jason (Heidi), Sara (Jake), Jared (Karissa), Clarissa, and Emily (Kendall). There were numerous trips to the park, Dairy Queen, and was always willing to play a game at the house. Gail never missed a single graduation or wedding, and he loved visiting and hearing about each of their interests. Gail thought of his children’s spouses as his own children. Rhonda Menard, Park Estes, Kevin Fenimore and Ila’s children, Melody Mills (Steve), Mike Mackey (Angela), Mark Mackey (Belinda) and Monte Mackey were all loved and important parts of his life. Gail entered peacefully into eternal rest on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, surrounded by family at his home in Broken Arrow, OK. He was eighty-one. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 15, 2021, at the McPherson Free Methodist Church with Pastor Jared Menard officiating. Marjorie “Marj” Lee (Williams) Brown, 87, of Colby, died Tuesday, July 
6, 2021, at the University of Colorado Hospital, in Aurora, CO. She was 
born in Oklahoma City, OK, to Mack Olaf and Florence Elizabeth (Wheaton)
 Williams. She had one older sister and a younger sister and brother. 
When Marj was 12 years old, her family relocated to Colby, KS, where her
 father did carpentry work. At the age of 15, her parents divorced, and 
her mother remarried a year later to Robert Richards, also of Colby. 
This added two stepsisters and a stepbrother to the family. 
Marj graduated from Colby High School in May of 1953 and married James 
“Jim” M. Brown, on November 22, of that same year. Jim was drafted into
 the United States Army and left for Korea just 4 days after their 
wedding. To this union, the couple had three children. After Jim’s 
return from the service, he worked as a manager of the Midwest Energy 
Power Plant, in Colby. Marj took art and English courses at Colby 
College. She was also active in the Colby United Methodist Church, where
 she taught Sunday School and instructed the children’s Cherub Choir. 
Marj belonged to the Colby Music Club, the first High Plains Art Club 
and Hoe and Hope Garden Club. 
Once her children were all in school, Marj went to work for Bill James 
at Prairie Printers Inc., of Colby, where she did artwork and put 
publications together. Later, she also worked as a news reporter for the
 James’s Prairie Drummer Newspaper for 12 years. She and Editor Bill 
James co-authored the book, History of Gem, Kansas. 
After the James’s sold the business and moved away, Marj donated her 
time teaching Psychiatric Remotivation classes at the Good Samaritan 
Nursing Home. She later graduated from Colby Community College with 
Emergency Medical Technician and Licensed Practical Nurse degrees. She 
went to work at the old St. Thomas Hospital, in Colby. After working 
there for 10 years, she attended Garden City College to earn her 
Registered Nurse license. Marj then went to work at the newly built 
Citizens Medical Center, in Colby, where she was the head nurse in the 
Intensive Care Unit. During that time, she became the first editor of 
hospitals new newspaper, The Health Harvester. 
Marj retired from nursing in June of 1999 and went back to her artwork 
by assisting Kenneth Mitchell to paint the large mural in the new Bedker
 Hall, at Colby Community College, along with several other of 
Mitchell’s former students. Later she restarted the High Plains Art Club
 and started the Colby Writer’s Group. She publisher her novel, Secretes
 of Roberts Mountain, in August of 2014. During the 2015 Colby High 
School All School Reunion she was honored with the schools High Flying 
Eagle Award. 
For a short time after her retirement Marj worked as a reporter for the 
Colby Free Press newspaper. However, she felt that did not leave her 
time to work on the writing she wanted to do, or on her artwork, so she 
quit the paper, but continued to write a column for them a couple of 
times a month titled, Marj’s Snippets. 
Going before her in death were her parents; stepfather; in-laws, Ralph 
and Myrtle Brown, of Colby; stepbrother David Richards; great- 
granddaughter Rayanna Marie Harsh; great-grandson Aaron James Brown, 
Jr.; brother-in-law Myron Hankins, of Richland, WA, and all her aunts 
and uncles. 
Those left to mourn her passing are her husband; three children, Duane 
(Velvola) Brown, of Colby, Allen (Debbie) Brown, of Tucson, AZ and Linda
 (Rusty Depe) Brown, of Colby; siblings, Shirley Hankins, of Richland, 
WA, Elizabeth Ann (Jim) Rogers, of Cheney, WA, Richard (Barbara) 
Williams, of North Little Rock, AK; stepsisters, Vick (Ted) Rychlik, of 
Ft. Myers, FL and Dixie Leddon, of Las Vegas, NV; 8 grandchildren,

 Williams. She had one older sister and a younger sister and brother.

Hubert E. Brokesh, son of Joseph Brokesh and Millie E. (Cerny) Brokesh was born July 22, 1931 at Belleville, Kansas and passed away on July 5, 2021 at Republic County Hospital, Belleville, Kansas at the age of 89 years, 11 months and 13 days.

Hubert attended Gleason Grade School and graduated from Munden High School in 1949.&nbsp; He was united in marriage to Jean V. Walta on August 29, 1954 and to this union two children were born, Venita and Edwin.

Hubert was a farmer and stockman his entire life.&nbsp; He served on the Hillcrest School Board and also served on the Republic County Farm Bureau Board.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Millie Brokesh.

He is survived by his wife Jean V. Shirley J. Free, the daughter of William Kasl and Anna (Cherney) Kasl was born December 2, 1938 in rural Wayne, KS and passed away on July 5, 2021 at the Jewell County Hospital-ISB, Mankato, KS at the age of 82 years, 7 months, and 3 days.

Shirley grew up in rural Cuba, KS, graduating from Cuba High School.&nbsp; On April 22, 1960, she was united in marriage to Benny O. Free and to this union were born Cindy, Becky, and Curtis.&nbsp; The couple made their home in Formoso, KS.

Shirley was a bookkeeper for grain elevators and livestock companies in Republic and Jewell Counties.&nbsp; After her retirement, she worked part-time at the Central National Bank in Formoso.

Shirley was a member of the Formoso Community Church, Formoso, KS.&nbsp; She also was a 4-H project leader and was a member of the Formoso Community Pride Committee for several years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Benny O. Free in 2018;&nbsp; brother Don Kasl; and sister Wilma Janousek.

Larry L. Welch, 80, of Jewell, Kansas, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at the Mitchell County Hospital, Beloit, Kansas. He was born April 9, 1941, on a farm in Jewell County, Kansas to Daniel and Hope (Ozmun) Welch.

Larry was a 1959 graduate of Esbon High School.

He married Vyonda N. Frost in Tucson, Arizona on May 2, 1960.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on December 21, 2012.&nbsp; To this union three children were born, Jeffrey, Michael and Michelle.

Larry served in the United States Air Force and travelled extensively throughout the world during his 21 years of service. Larry&nbsp; and family resided in Tucson, Arizona; Fairbanks, Alaska; Omaha, Nebraska; Bangkok, Thailand where Larry worked at the American Embassy during the Vietnam War and Austin, Texas where they retired prior to moving back to Kansas in 2004.

Larry enjoyed traveling, playing cards, bowling, water skiing, all college sports, especially University of Texas basketball, and was an avid KC Chiefs fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents Daniel and Hope, two brothers, Royal and Dean, and a sister, Virginia Gardener.

Survivors are sons - Jeffrey and Michael of the home, daughter - Michelle Crocker and husband - Ken of Esbon, Kansas - grandson - Kyle Baker of Lorena, Texas; grandson - Daniel Crocker of Portland, Oregon, granddaughter - Brandy Crocker of Saginaw, Texas and great grandchildren - Evan and Riley of Saginaw, Texas; sister, Marilyn West, Lenexa, Kansas - brother-in-law - John Frost and wife - Lila of Esbon, Kansas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Monday, July 12, 2021 at the Melby Mortuary in Mankato, Kansas.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m.., Tuesday, July 13 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Esbon, Kansas, with Pastor Rod Rose officiating. &nbsp;Burial will follow in the Esbon Cemetery.

Larry&nbsp; and family resided in Tucson, Arizona; Fairbanks, Alaska; Omaha, Nebraska; Bangkok, Thailand where Larry worked at the American Embassy during the Vietnam War and Austin, Texas where they retired prior to moving back to Kansas in 2004.Larry enjoyed traveling, playing cards, bowling, water skiing, all college sports, especially University of Texas basketball, and was an avid KC Chiefs fan.He was preceded in death by his parents Daniel and Hope, two brothers, Royal and Dean, and a sister, Virginia Gardener.Survivors are sons - Jeffrey and Michael of the home, daughter - Michelle Crocker and husband - Ken of Esbon, Kansas - grandson - Kyle Baker of Lorena, Texas; grandson - Daniel Crocker of Portland, Oregon, granddaughter - Brandy Crocker of Saginaw, Texas and great grandchildren - Evan and Riley of Saginaw, Texas; sister, Marilyn West, Lenexa, Kansas - brother-in-law - John Frost and wife - Lila of Esbon, Kansas; and numerous nieces and nephews.Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Monday, July 12, 2021 at the Melby Mortuary in Mankato, Kansas.Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m.., Tuesday, July 13 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Esbon, Kansas, with Pastor Rod Rose officiating. &nbsp;Burial will follow in the Esbon Cemetery.Memorials may be made to the Esbon Community Church, 760 R. Graveside funeral services for Walter A. Hartman, age 93, of Abilene, will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2021 at the Greenwood Cemetery in Clay Center with Pastor Lindsey Brummer officiating. Mr. Hartman passed away July 7, 2021 at the Chapman Valley Manor in Chapman. He was born July 11, 1927 in Clay Center the son of Walter W. and Elida Mae (Palmeeter) Hartman. He graduated from Clay Center High School and served his country in the United State Navy during WWII. Walter worked for RCA as a telemetry engineer from 1955 – 1966, then from 1967 – 1971 for Sperry Rand as an electrical engineer for the Saturn V Apollo Missions, and from 1975 – 1990 for Black and Veach Engineering Company as a records manager before retiring. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Kiwanis, and the American Legion, all in Abilene. On June 13, 1948 Walter was united in marriage to Dorothy Sawin in LaPrairie, Illinois. She passed away September 25, 2014. Walter is also preceded in death by his sister DoraDeane Lips. Walter is survived by his son Gene and his wife Jan Hartman of Abilene, grandchildren Brian Hartman, Brad and his wife Jenell Hartman, and Cristin and her husband Pat Casteel, and five great-grandchildren. Betty J. Hampton, 91, of Abilene passed away July 5, 2021 at Abilene Place surrounded by family. She was born June 28, 1930 in Abilene, the daughter of Russell and Ora (Lowry) Neher. She grew up in Abilene and attended the local schools. Betty was a homemaker.

On February 6, 1951 she was united in marriage to Peter W. Hampton in Abilene. He preceded her in death June 9, 2020. They returned to Abilene after Pete was stationed in Florida. They moved into 804 NW 2nd just down the block from Pete’s parents. This was their home for 60 years. Great times and many wonderful memories for family and friends include front porch sitting, having coffee and cookies in the kitchen, and dinner parties with the good china in the dining room.

Betty is survived by her daughter Rebecca (Doug) Crumpton and their children Allyson (Jonathan) Maestas and their children, Isabel, Maisyn and Trey. Scott (Hannah) Crumpton and their daughter Addison. Mary Crumpton and Jordan Crumpton; son Paul (Linda) Hampton and their children Zack and Jess Hampton, Marty Mead, Mark Mead, and his three children Austin, Ethan and Matthew; and Suzanna and Bill Goatcher and Kaitlyn and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private family graveside will be held at Union/Livingston Cemetery, rural Abilene.&nbsp;

Friends may come by Thursday, July 8, 2021 from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene to sign the register book.
