Obituary for Kenneth C. Faerber | Ryan Mortuary

January 3, 1935 ~ October 29, 2021 (age 86)

Kenneth played football and baseball growing up but enjoyed competitive swimming the most. Kenneth graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1954, Emporia State in 1961 with a master’s degree and then earned his administrative certificate from Kansas State University.

He started his teaching career at Northwest Junior High and then Washington High School in Kansas City. His teaching positions provided many coaching opportunities in basketball, track, swimming, soccer, and cross country. The last 28 years of his career were as the academic dean at St. John’s Military School in Salina. Two of his favorite activities while at St. John’s were taking the marching band and color guard to Mardi Gras and taking a group of 30 cadets to the annual National Rattlesnake Hunt in Oklahoma. He was a teacher, coach, and administrator to countless boys and girls and was proud to say he enjoyed every day.

Kenneth was a member of Sacred Heart Cathedral, Eucharistic minister, diocesan school board member, chairman of Sacred Heart Elementary School board of education, chairman of the National Association of Secondary School Principals, member of the Kansas Association of Secondary School Principals “Hotline” at NASSP national convention, president of the Eisenhower Actives League, and member of Salina Catholic School financial committee.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Howard F. Faerber, Dr. Harry J. Faerber, and Dorothy Smith.

Kenneth is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lillian Faerber of Salina; children Patricia and Jeff Handley of Topeka, William and Lori Faerber of Salina, Robert and Kelley Faerber of Cedar Rapids, IA; nine grandchildren, David and Stephanie Faerber, Sarah and Colby Wetter, Jacob, Isaiah, Elizabeth Grace, Quinn, Hannah and Alec Van Nort, Halsey and Austin Elliott; great-grandchildren Jackson, Evelyn, Nathaniel, Clare and Marisol; and nephews Dr. John and Kate Faerber and Dr. Tom and Ann Faerber.
