Carol Joyce (Milligan) Pickerel, 83, Lawrence, died Saturday, October 22 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, Kansas.

Carol was born March 28, 1938 on her family’s farm near Clay Center, Kansas to Glen and Geraldine Milligan. She was a graduate of the Clay Center High School Class of 1956.

She devoted several years to caring for her children at home, and then later worked for many years in title companies in both Lawrence and Clay Center. She was also active in her community and church, as well as spending time with her grandchildren.

Carol married Jack Pickerel in 1956 in Clay Center, Kansas, and they remained faithful to each other for 60 years until Jack’s passing in 2016. Together they had three children: Scott in 1958, Kathy in 1959, and Mark in 1968.

Carol is survived by her brother Randy and his wife Zita; her oldest son Scott and his wife Betty; her youngest son Mark and his wife Linda, along with their two sons Matthew and Alex; her deceased daughter Kathy’s husband Russell; her granddaughter Lindsay and her husband Nathan, along with their children Landon and Piper; and her grandson Spencer and his wife Katie, along with their children Luke and Emma.

Visitation for Carol will be held on Friday, October 29 at 12:30 p.m. at Neill-Schwensen-Rook funeral home in Clay Center, Kansas.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

She will be interred at Greenwood Cemetery in Clay Center.

The family suggests donations to the First Presbyterian Church in Clay Center, Kansas.
