Ethan Michael Sankey,&nbsp;19, of Salina, passed away unexpectedly on September 1, 2021. He was born on December 7, 2001 in Salina, the son of Steven Sankey and Kristin Desaire. He graduated from Salina South High School in 2020 and was in his sophomore year at University of Kansas in Lawrence.

Ethan is survived by his parents, brothers Aidan and Logan Sankey, grandparents Marty and Sheri Desaire, Mike and Joanie Sankey, Pam and Roger Pentico, great-grandparents Ralph and Linda Morton, Alice Sankey, uncles and aunts Matt and Kendra Smith, Eric and Lisa Sankey, Ame Sankey, cousins Keaton, Isaac, Maliah Smith, Mason, and Jackson Sankey, Jenny and Duane McAnarney, Aunt Kathy and Uncle Donand, many extended family members and friends.

Ethan was full of life - a great son, brother, grandson and a fantastic friend. He was brilliant and creative in his own way and had a passion for helping others to make this world a better place. He played football in high school and loved music. He aspired to be “somebody” one day and well-known by others. His positivity was contagious and touched many lives during his short period on this planet. Ethan was a dreamer and strongly believed in protecting his dreams through his pursuit of happiness. He was a quick learner and always backed his statements with a thorough knowledge and information. He was planning to join the Peace Corps in the Czech Republic to help kids learn English.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, September 7, at Ryan Mortuary.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1000 Burr Oak Lane, Salina with Fr. Keith Weber as celebrant.&nbsp; Interment will follow in Mount Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Abilene.

Arza was a graduate of LeRoy High School.&nbsp; He enlisted in the United States Army for close to 11 years&nbsp;and retired as a highly decorated veteran.&nbsp; He and Anna Goble were married on May 8, 2009. Arza loved to coach and did so for the Salina Spikes&nbsp;Baseball Club&nbsp;and the YMCA youth football.&nbsp; He worked for Sunflower Pool and Patio for many years and he was the construction&nbsp;site manager at the time of his death.

Survivors are his wife Anna; sons Aidan&nbsp;and Easton; parents Steve and Leti Hammond of Leroy, Kansas; father and mother-in-law Randy and Janet Goble of Salina; siblings Joe Hammond&nbsp;and wife&nbsp;Janet of Bel Aire, Kansas,&nbsp;Patty (Hammond)&nbsp;&amp; Kevin&nbsp;McGuffin of Iola, Kansas;&nbsp;Gene and wife&nbsp;Jacqueline&nbsp;Hammond of Tampa, Florida&nbsp;and Jesse Hammond and fiancé Heather of Wichita, Kansas&nbsp;as well as&nbsp;numerous other family members and friends.

Frank Herrman, 75, Salina, was born October 26, 1945 in Goodland, Kansas to Frank and Lena Herrman. Frank passed away Wednesday, September 1, 2021 near Colby.&nbsp; He was the third of six children. He graduated from Goodland High School and received a BA from Kansas State and an MA in special education from Fort Hays State. He also graduated from Cleveland Chiropractic College and spent four years serving in the Air Force Intelligence Branch during the Vietnam War.

He met Alice Wagner, his sister’s roommate at The University of Kansas, in 1969 after he got out of the service. They fell in love and got married in 1973. The couple celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary August the 2nd of this year.&nbsp;

Frank spent nine years working for the Union Pacific Railroad before going back to school and getting his masters in education. He was a beloved teacher at St. Francis for over twenty years.

In his younger days, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and hiking. He also loved nothing more than a rousing game of Trivia Pursuit, which he almost always won. As he got older he became very involved in the YMCA community and loved working out and visiting with his friends over a cup of coffee. Frank had a special gift for remembering people’s names as well as making them feel welcome and important. 

He was very proud of his two daughters, Heather Herrman and Jessica Herrman-Derrick. He was an avid follower and supporter of their athletic and professional endeavors. He will be greatly missed by all of those who were fortunate enough to have had him as a part of their lives. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Lena Herrman, brother Ronald Herrman; niece Cindy Clark; and brother-in-law Archie Wicke. 

He is survived by his wife Alice Herrman, his two daughters Jessica (John) Herrman-Derrick of Gadsden, AL, and Heather (Parker Staley) Herrman, of Santa Fe, NM, as well as his two grandsons, Albert and Charles Staley, whom he loved to wake up early with on visits and spoil with special treats. He is also survived by his sisters Patty Wicke of Goodland, KS; Mary Lou (Louis) Haller of Denver, CO; Sharon (John) Hartman of Clifton, KS; and Linda (Curtis) Miller of Salina, KS; as well as several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law and their children on Alice’s side.

Memorial services will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 10 at the Bennington Bible Church, Bennington.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Bennington Cemetery.&nbsp;

Luther Eugene “Gene” Meek, 94, of Little River, KS, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 3, 2021, surrounded by family at Sandstone Heights Nursing Home, Little River. He retired from Kansas Power &amp; Light in 1992 after 32 years of employment. He was born on July 29, 1927, in Oilton, OK, the son of Jesse and Rose Lee (Bullington) Meek. On June 29, 1952, Gene was united in marriage to Gladys Lela Smith at the Groveland Christian Church. She preceded him in death on October 13, 2016. Gene was a United States Navy veteran during WWII, stationed in Guam. He was a member of Groveland Christian Church and was a Boy Scout volunteer. He was also involved in multiple mission trips to Haiti and Spain. Survivors include: sons Dallas Meek (Caroline) of Frankfort, KY and Gary Meek (Doris) of Independence, MO; daughter Lori Viramontez (Dave) of Lyons, KS; sister Della Ellwood (Galland) of Little River, KS; eight grandchildren, Derek Viramontez, Tyler Viramontez (Emily), Andrew Meek (Taryn), Priscilla Meek, Ethan Meek, Stephen Meek, Caleb Meek (Willow), and Esther Meek; six great-grandchildren, Reagan Viramontez, Adelyn Viramontez, Noel Meek, Alarice Meek, Micah Meek, and Riah Meek; and many extended family and friends. Pat was born December 29, 1924 in Glasco, the son of Mark and Eva (Jagger) Garst.&nbsp; He served in the United States Navy during WWII.&nbsp; Pat worked for ADM Milling for 44 years.

He was married to Thelma Ione Gaston on February 6, 1943.&nbsp; After her death, he married Dorothy Stout and they moved to Beaver, OK.&nbsp; She also preceded him in death.

Survivors are his children Patty Yost, Richard (Gloria) Garst, Joe (Diane) Garst, Dale (Linda) Garst, and Cecil (Emily) Garst; three sisters Bonnie Strutt, Cathy Smith, and Sylvia Shramek; brother, Eldon Garst; nine grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 6 at the Bennington Cemetery.&nbsp;

Mary was passionate about sewing, quilting, reupholstering furniture, baking, family, and friends. Especially special were holidays with family and highly competitive bridge with her friends.

Mary wed Charles “Charlie” R. Garrett in 1949. They were married 59 years and raised five children. 

She is survived by her sons Rick Garrett of Ellsworth and Tim Garrett of Claremore, OK; daughters Cyndi Rodenhouse of Danvers, MA, Christina Garrett of Ellsworth, and Charlotte Panzer of Tulsa, OK; sister Wilma Sieburh of Emporia; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles and her sister Lois Rich.

Visitation: 2-8 p.m., Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth with family present 6-8 p.m.

Mrs. Schlesener passed away Wednesday September 1, 2021 at her home. She was born August 30, 1936 near Navarre, Kansas, the daughter of Wilson and Dena (Townsend) Hoffman. She graduated from Chapman High School in 1954 and on July 10, 1955 she was united in marriage to Glen Schlesener in Abilene. Darlene was a bookkeeper for several businesses in the Herington area and was the owner of an antique store. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include her loving husband Glen of the home, daughters Terrie Greenemeyer of Herington, Vickie Schlesener-Crocker and her husband Johnny of Herington, brother John Hoffman and his wife Janet of Abilene, grandchildren Theron Greenemeyer and his wife Zoe, Dustin Greenemeyer, great-grandchildren Isabelle Greenemeyer and Emma Greenemeyer.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Keith and Donald Hoffman. Cremation is planned and there will be no visitation.

Harold "Hal" James Wagner, 85, of Salina, passed away Thursday, September 2, 2021.&nbsp; He was born November 21, 1935 in Kingman, to Marvin DeWitt Wagner and Lela Maude Jackson.&nbsp; They moved to Athol, Kansas when he was young, and he attended a country grade school and high school.&nbsp; At the age of 15 he was following his dad with a load of cattle to take to market and that’s when he got the truck driver fever which he did for the next 64 years.&nbsp; He was a lifetime member of NRA and HOG group.&nbsp; He donated a Harley Motorcycle to the Marquette Motorcycle Museum.

On April 2, 1966, he met and married his wife Sharon Kay.&nbsp; They enjoyed several long vacations together.&nbsp; 

Surviving James is his wife Sharon “Kitten” of 55 years; son Bob Wagner (Suzi) of Snow Hill, NC; grandchildren Drs. Nick Wagner (Ariel), of Natick, MA, Brice Wagner (Sadina), of Silver Springs, MD, Hannah Fuentes (Michael), of Stantonsburg, NC, Rachel Bertapelli (Joe); step-granddaughter Jaquelyn Wostenberg (Darren); great-grandchildren Allie, Ellie, Reuben, Maddox, Evelyn, Brayden, Jasper, Luka, Lillian, Nova; sister Mary Jean Heater;and nieces Patty Underwood and Sandra Beach (Russ).

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son Harold James “Jimmie” Wagner, Jr.; and great-granddaughter Ryan Grace.

He leaves many friends, church family members, fellow riders, and neighbors.&nbsp; 

Hal had a kind generous heart and was a devoted man of God.&nbsp; Daily hours of devotional reading and praying were constant companions.&nbsp; He will be greatly missed by his family. He loved sunrises and sunsets from his seat behind the wheel or from his front porch after his retirement.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday, September 5, 2021 at Ryan Mortuary.

He was a graduate of Whittier College, served in the United States Army, and attended graduate school at the University of Arizona. Bill was a member of the Civil Air Patrol.

 In his professional life he was employed by the Arizona Department of Agriculture, Kansas Department of Agriculture, New Mexico Department of Agriculture, Imperial County Department of Agriculture, Albany International, and Iselin Associates Inc. In each of these organizations Bill was dedicated to the study of entomology. 

Bill loved being a pilot and an entomologist, as well as a love for nature and history. He enjoyed being part of the social organizations of E Clampus Vitus and Westerners International.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; brother Herbert Iselin; and sister Dorothy Jost (Walter). 

He is survived by his wife Karen Williams Iseli; son Louis Iselin (Huong); daughter Kail Clatterbuck (Chance); son Max Iselin (Jody); and daughter Heather Iselin; eight grandchildren, Megan, Rachel, Joshua, Shania, Justin, Ashley, Kyle, and Sean.

Her generous heart and spirit made her the best daughter, sister, friend, teacher, and so many more titles. She lived briefly in a few locations with her parents before the young family settled in Toms Brook, VA, home to both of her parents. &nbsp;

She was a rock that helped her grandparents with gardening and other projects on their small farm, contributed in many ways to the family truck stop, and served as a role model to her three siblings, even saving her youngest brother from drowning when he impulsively jumped into a hotel pool as a non-swimmer. 

She also enjoyed learning new hobbies and sharing with others – playing the organ at church, photographing family and friends and developing the pictures in the dark room, teaching her dad (and many others) to ski, taking her niece to her first concert, and painting fun pictures for her family. 

Her love of music led her to Shenandoah University and later James Madison University, eventually allowing her to teach four decades of children and young adults to appreciate and perform choral and instrumental art. Barbara began her teaching career at Culpeper High School, where she built a thriving choral program that accommodated singers of all talents.&nbsp; Beyond music, she helped her students to grow to their full potential and experience the broader world. &nbsp;As her family of origin grew, she didn’t have in-laws…she simply gained more siblings and became a beloved grandmother.

Barbara’s biggest adventure occurred when she met and married Randy Johnson and relocated to Kansas after driving her cat, Sylvester, and a jam-packed car to Salina.&nbsp; Barbara and Randy enjoyed many happy years together, settling in Assaria, Kansas where she could indulge in her love of growing both flowers and vegetables under the clear blue skies.&nbsp; She and Randy shared many interests, including a love of the outdoors.&nbsp; Randy introduced her to the beauty of Glen Elder, where they spent many happy hours hunting from his duck blind or fishing from his boat.&nbsp; She loved to photograph the enormous flocks of geese that flew through the area on their annual seasonal migrations.&nbsp; She and Randy also enjoyed football and were often neck and neck in the friendly NFL pool in which they participated with other friends and co-workers.&nbsp; They also shared a deep love for history, particularly the Civil War and World War II eras, and would spend hours reading and discussing the finer points of those troubled times.&nbsp;

Their most joyous roles, however, were as Papaw and Mamaw to the children of Randy’s son John and his wife Kelley:&nbsp; Riley, Emma, Ellie, Morgan, and MacKenzie.&nbsp; Papaw and Mamaw loved their grandchildren with all their hearts, and delighted in each minute spent with them, whether it was teaching them how to drive the lawn mower tractors, make killer deviled eggs, or create tie-dye shirts.&nbsp; Many happy hours were spent just hanging out on the front porch, trading stories, eating frozen pops, and playing Simon Says.&nbsp; Barbara truly delighted in reprising the pivotal role her own grandmother had played in her life, including laughing at many knock-knock jokes!

Her patience, compassion, and sunny nature endeared her to her students, co-workers, and administrators at Hope, Bennington and Tescott, where she had retired from teaching at the end of last spring.&nbsp; She loved working with children and teens of all ages, and always provided an understanding ear and gentle encouragement when necessary.&nbsp; Not every teacher can successfully work with—and enjoy— children ages kindergarten through 12th&nbsp;grade, but she had the skills required to appreciate all ages and bring out the best in her students.

Although we will sorely miss Barbara in our lives, we are grateful to have had this wonderful person as a family member, friend, neighbor, co-worker, and teacher, and know she will remain forever in our hearts. We can all take some comfort in knowing she now sings her songs with the angels, and flies with the butterflies.

She was a dōTERRA Wellness Consultant and owned Lavish Essential Oils, LLC. She was also an interior designer. Jaymie was born on December 19, 1951, in Pueblo, CO, the daughter of Chester Arthur and Rose Amelia (Moore) Schmidt. She graduated from Aldine High School in Houston, TX and later from McPherson College in 1999 with an interior design degree.

On December 19, 1970, she was united in marriage to David A. O’Dell at the Church of God in McPherson. This union was blessed with two daughters, Crystal and Rozalynn. She was a member of Countryside Covenant Church where she was active in Bible study and small groups. She was a volunteer for Oak Harbor Cottages and a member of McPherson Master Gardeners Club and former member of Sweet Adelines. She was also involved with the Apples of Gold Ministry and was a Kansas City BBQ Master Judge. Survivors include: her loving husband of 50 years, David of the home; two daughters, Crystal Clobes of Hutchinson, KS and Rozalynn Frey (Ken) of Hesston, KS; six grandchildren, Acacia Clobes, Adelaide Clobes, Lilly Smith, Cooper Frey, Carter Frey, and Caris Frey; four siblings, Amelia Patrie (Chuck) of West Lafayette, IN, Richard Schmidt (Denise) of Spring Branch, TX, Calvin Schmidt of Hockley, TX, and Drew Schmidt (Glenda) of Montgomery, TX; a brother-in-law, Danny O’Dell of McPherson, KS; and many extended family and friends. Roger A. "Gus" Lange, loving husband and father of three children, peacefully passed away at his home in Clay Center on Tuesday, August 31 at the age of 78.

Roger was born March 2, 1943 to William J. and Ann Meyer Lange. He was the youngest of seven children.&nbsp; He was raised in the Palmer area and attended St. John's Grade School and Linn High School. He was baptized in April of 1943 and confirmed in his faith April 14th, 1957. 

After high school, he became a member of the Kansas National Guard. Soon after, he started farming for Vernon Helms, which is where he met the love of his life of 53 years, Edith Helms Lange. They were married on May 12th, 1968 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Linn KS, where they remained members until 2003.&nbsp;

 They bought a farm and made it their home in "Strawberry," just west of Linn. To this union, three children, Troy, Shari, and Heather, were born. Roger farmed until the mid-'80s when farming wasn't easy. He gave it up in 1984 and had various jobs following. Some of these jobs included mechanic, rural route carrier, pick up and delivery for John Deere, grading roads for Linn and Strawberry Township, and finally he worked for Twin Valley Development in Greenleaf, KS where he retired in 2008. 

In 2001 they sold the farm at Strawberry and moved to Clay Center. This is when he joined the Coffee Shop Club. After moving he worked as a delivery driver for Rays Apple Market and still worked grading roads for Strawberry Township until 2018.

 Work was instilled at a young age, he was always busy working or tinkering in his shop. Roger had a love for John Deere tractors and old gas engines, restoring many over the years. He also had one of many powerful FORD Rangers and liked to let everyone know about it. Roger loved his grandkids,&nbsp; his great-nieces and nephews and having shindigs with the whole family. He also left an impression on many of his children's and grandchildren's friends. Anyone who knew him, knew that he always had a story to tell or knowledge to give, along with his sense of humor, of course! He will be missed by many and all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents,&nbsp; three brothers Lyle, Eldred and Ron Lange, and three sisters Colleen Rhodes, Mary Lou Noyes, and Margie Winter.

Surviving of the home is his wife Edith, son Troy Lange, and daughters Shari Johnson (Ryan)&nbsp; and Heather Ohlde (Brett) and Troy Johnson.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 3, 2021 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center, where the family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Interment will be in the St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Roger A. 'Gus' Lange

Kathryn Elizabeth Henderson was born on January 18, 1939 in Gorham, Kansas, the first child of Fred and Linetta Wagner Zimmerman. She died suddenly on Sunday, August 29, 2021 at her home in Glasco, Kansas at the age of 82 years.

She grew up in western Kansas and spent a lot of time at her grandmother’s house, attended a one-room schoolhouse and then public school at Russell. She graduated from Morrowville High School in 1956 where she was active in the glee club and playing sousaphone in the band. 

On October 26, 1958, she was united in marriage with Eldon Henderson in Washington, KS. Three children were born to this union, Debra, James, and Ellen. The family briefly lived in Fairbury and Lincoln, Nebraska, before moving to Glasco in the fall of 1962, where Eldon opened the station, and she the family. They were privileged to spend more than 54 years of marriage together before he died in May 2013.

In addition to raising her family, she was an avid seamstress, and also enjoyed crocheting, and in later years, quilting. She was a tremendous cook, and nobody ever left the table hungry. She also enjoyed gardening, and from the garden did a lot of canning. She loved walking, and walked many miles each day for more than 40 years, participating and supporting the Walk Kansas program. When she walked, she used that as her best time to do her thinking and relaxing.

Kathryn was also very active in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where she served in the Ladies Aid and church council for many years. She taught Sunday school, catechism, and bible school. She also was involved in the Glasco Public Library, where she was active in the Mother Goose Story Hour, initially sponsored by the Glasco Lauraceae Study Club.

In addition to her husband Eldon, she was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers Alvin Zimmerman and Fred Zimmerman, Jr.

Kathryn is survived by her children Debra and husband Donald Heiland Jr. of Topeka, James of Lindsborg, and Ellen Henderson of Junction City; grandson Donald Heiland III and his wife Vidhi;&nbsp; sisters JoAnn Moore of Haddam, Kansas and Mary Ellen Marschman of Fairbury, Nebraska; and a host of friends and relatives.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 2 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Glasco. Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. with family present from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Roberts Family Funeral Home in Beloit.

She died suddenly on Sunday, August 29, 2021 at her home in Glasco, Kansas at the age of 82 years.She grew up in western Kansas and spent a lot of time at her grandmother’s house, attended a one-room schoolhouse and then public school at Russell. She graduated from Morrowville High School in 1956 where she was active in the glee club and playing sousaphone in the band. On October 26, 1958, she was united in marriage with Eldon Henderson in Washington, KS. Three children were born to this union, Debra, James, and Ellen. The family briefly lived in Fairbury and Lincoln, Nebraska, before moving to Glasco in the fall of 1962, where Eldon opened the station, and she the family. They were privileged to spend more than 54 years of marriage together before he died in May 2013.In addition to raising her family, she was an avid seamstress, and also enjoyed crocheting, and in later years, quilting. She was a tremendous cook, and nobody ever left the table hungry. She also enjoyed gardening, and from the garden did a lot of canning. She loved walking, and walked many miles each day for more than 40 years, participating and supporting the Walk Kansas program. When she walked, she used that as her best time to do her thinking and relaxing.Kathryn was also very active in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where she served in the Ladies Aid and church council for many years. She taught Sunday school, catechism, and bible school. Dale Wayne Reed, 73, of Salina, Kansas died peacefully at home on January 12, 2021. He was born on February 5, 1947 in rural Jewell County, Kan., to Floyd "Jack" and Roberta (Morrow) Reed.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on September 25, 2021, at Sunrise Presbyterian Church, 823 E. Beloit St, Salina. Lunch will follow. Graveside services will be at 3:00 p.m. at Balch Cemetery, Formoso, Kan. 

Due to Covid, the family requests that masks be worn at the service.

Dale carried on his dad's work ethic and his mom's love of knowledge into adulthood, and was proud to earn a bachelor's degree in eectrical engineering from Kansas State University. 

He met his wife, Jean Ann (Lancaster) when they were both attending college there. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1968, and he and Jean were married on January 10, 1970 in Topeka, Kan. He was stationed in four stateside locations as well as Morocco where he and Jean spent their first few years of marriage together.

After he was discharged, he worked as an electronics technician for a firm in Olathe, Kan., and then at the Evapotranspiration Laboratory (ET) at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kan. He and Jean had two children, Kristen and Keri while there. He completed his career as the electrical engineer for El Dorado National Bus Company, in Salina. 

Just prior to retiring, he was diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). While it was a big part of his life for the last 20 years, his essence remained. 

Dale was a proud husband, father, brother, veteran, and American. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his helpfulness, his work ethic, his stubbornness, his friendliness, his sense of right and wrong, his love of donuts and coffee, his orderliness and routines, his signature phrases - "He's off to the races!", and his handsome features and big smile.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters Phyla Zolo and Johnita Pearl Malone.

He is survived by his wife Jean Ann Reed, Salina; his children Kristen Zimmerman, Mulvane, Kan., and Keri Skinner (Teru), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; his brothers Delno Reed and Doyle Reed, both of Concordia, Kan.; sister Juanice Reed, Chandler, Okla.; two grandchildren; and two grand-dogs.

In his memory, his family asks that you spend time with your family -- share a joke, enjoy a day of hunting or watching football, reminiscing about old times, or sharing a donut. He will be missed dearly.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on September 18, 2021, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 230 E. Cloud St, Salina. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. at St. Mary's Cemetery, Clifton, Kan.

Georgeida graduated from Clyde High School in 1943. She was a rural school teacher for one year, then joined the US Cadet Nurse Corps. She graduated as a registered nurse from St. Joseph Hospital, KC, Mo., and received a BA degree from Park College, Parkville, Mo.

Georgeida worked as a Registered Nurse for 42 years. Early in her career she worked in pediatric, medical and surgical areas. Later she taught student nurses, was anesthetist for an oral surgeon, and supervisor in oncology. She retired from the VA Hospital in Topeka. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and belonged to several nursing organizations.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four siblings; husband, Tony Coons in 1985; son, George in 1991; and son-in-law, Kenn in 2018.

Survivors include her children, Kathy McComb, Edmond, Okla., Margaret Hubbard (Joseph), Grand Prairie, Texas, and John Freeman (Mary), Naperville, Ill.; grandchildren, Malia, Megan, Katie, Lee, Beth, Anna and Jackie; great-grandchildren, Zane, Scarlett, Chloe and Liam.

Left to mourn her passing is her husband Benjamin of the home; children Keynan Peet, Kamryn Peet, Gallyx Lee, Sevyn Lee, Quinton Tucker, Julian Lee, Neveah Lee, Jaxson Lee; mother Jennifer Gordy (Adam) of Salina; biological father Leveland Brown, of Rhode Island; father Ricky Peet (Nikki), of Ada; and many brother and sisters.

She is preceded in death by her infant brother Jorgan Peet; several grandparents, including her great-grandmother Jacquetta “Jackie” Hill, with whom she had a very special bond.

He spent 43 years teaching middle school and high school students in Bunker Hill (1963-65), Garden City (1967-68) and for USD 239 (1965-67, 1968-2008).&nbsp; Meryl taught students, then their children, and then the grandchildren of his first students.It was during his first teaching job in Bunker Hill that he was asked to teach French because of his three semesters of French in college.&nbsp; He told his class of five girls that he would be learning right along with them and ended up discovering a love of foreign language.&nbsp;Meryl completed two French immersion programs through the government-based National Defense Education Act (NDEA), first studying at Oakland University in Pontiac, Michigan, in 1968 and in France, in 1969.&nbsp; He earned a Master’s Degree in French from Emporia State University in 1970.His school days were filled teaching United States history and government, current events, English, French and Spanish.&nbsp; He also served as high school principal for five years before returning to the classroom in order to spend more hands-on time with students.&nbsp; After his “retirement” in 1995, he spent the next 13 years teaching high school French and Spanish on a part-time basis.&nbsp; He also volunteered to teach foreign language to area pre-school children and adults.&nbsp; Monsieur Grosshans, or Señor Grosshans to some, took great pleasure in seeing students light up when an idea “clicked.”&nbsp; He was selected as one of Teen Ink’s Teachers of the Year for 2001-2002 and was inducted into the Kansas Teachers Hall of Fame in 2002.He was passionate about learning at every opportunity.&nbsp; A favorite family story is when one of his young granddaughters realized she was actually learning when she thought she was simply playing with Grandpa.&nbsp; She threw up her hands and said, “Everything with Grandpa is learn, learn, learn!”&nbsp; He always chuckled when that story was retold.&nbsp;Meryl enjoyed anything to do with sports, whether it be as a spectator, player or coach.&nbsp; He was a member of an undefeated Scott City High School football team and played semi-pro baseball as a young adult. He also spent many years playing recreational basketball and fast-pitch softball.&nbsp; There were also countless hours of backyard baseball and football games with his children that neighbors would enjoy as they drove by the house. His kids would tease him during road trips when everyone in the car would be forced to listen to whatever sporting event he could find on the radio, whether it was coming in clearly or not! He spent many years as the Director of the Ottawa County Recreation Commission, as well as the Athletic Director for Minneapolis High School.&nbsp; In addition, he devoted countless hours to coaching baseball in the summer.&nbsp; He also volunteered as an assistant baseball coach as MHS launched its baseball program.Meryl loved history, a good book, playing cards, crossword puzzles and dancing.&nbsp; After the kids were out of the house, he and Pat spent many years country dancing and would arrange their schedule so as not to miss Friday night outings at the dance club.&nbsp; They also participated in a group that would entertain at rest homes and various events in the area.&nbsp; He loved adding a little extra pizzazz to his moves on the dance floor when his family and friends were there to watch!More than anything, Meryl enjoyed being a father.&nbsp; His two children - Alan and Lora - were blessed to have such a supportive and loving dad.&nbsp; He was always at their concerts, in the stands, asking about their day and picking them up when they needed a lift.&nbsp; His grandchildren always received the same affection.He was a faithful member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for more than 55 years, where he served as a lector, usher and then altar server when he was able to attend daily Mass during retirement. &nbsp;&nbsp;Meryl was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings who died in childhood.&nbsp;He is survived by Pat, his wife of 59 years; two children; Alan (Tracy) of Aurora, CO, and Lora (Alan) Woolever of Kansas City, MO; four adoring grandchildren, Delanee, Camryn and Kendall Grosshans and Andrew Woolever; sister Iona “Onie” Grosshans of Salt Lake City, UT, and brother James (Karen) Grosshans of Sidney, NE.Visitation will be Friday, September 3 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Wilson Family Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.&nbsp; Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 4 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.&nbsp; The family is requesting masks to be worn at all events.&nbsp; In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Minneapolis Public Library, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or the Minneapolis Community Foundation.&nbsp; The memorials may be mailed to the Wilson Funeral Home, P.O.
