Anita “Jeanne” Hapgood, 76, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, with her two sons by her side at McPherson Hospital. Jeanne was born on July 27, 1945, in McPherson, KS, the daughter of Neal and Mary (Borth) Esau. She and her siblings were the first in their lineage of family to be born outside of Germany as the Borth and Esau families were immigrants from eastern Europe. She graduated from Windom High School in 1963 and continued her education at the Adele Hale Business College in Hutchinson.

On November 13, 1963, Jeanne was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Byron Hapgood at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Lindsborg. The young couple established their first home in McPherson and was blessed with the birth of two sons, Tony and Bobby. Bob preceded Jeanne in death after 43 years of marriage on May 1, 2007. In her earlier years, Jeanne worked at Farmers Alliance, but once the boys were born, she took some time off to raise them. She then went back to work as a medical transcriptionist, working in the offices of Dr. Richard Johnson, Dr. Allen Hooper, Dr. Samuel Claassen, Dr. Richard Watson, and Memorial Hospital before retirement. Jeanne was a loving wife and mother. She was faithful attending the boys’ school and sporting events. She and Bob enjoyed going to KU games to watch Bobby play in the KU Jayhawk basketball band. Having a musically talented family, she attended many concerts and musical performances throughout her life. Many special memories were made on family vacations, traveling to Florida, Arizona, California, Mississippi, Hawaii, and Germany. She was an avid KU Jayhawks, KC Royals, and KC Chiefs fan. She was an animal lover and leaves behind her two furry family members, Nipper and Moxie, her cats, now living with Tony. Survivors include: her two sons, Tony Hapgood of Kansas City, MO and Bobby Hapgood of Lawrence, KS; a grandson, Julian Hapgood of Kansas City, MO; and many extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings, Maynard Esau and Joyce Esau Gordon. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, September 3, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 4, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Tim Leaf officiating. Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery. Robin R. Johnson age 64, died in Salina, Kansas on August 28, 2021. She was born in Clay Center, Kansas on July 11, 1957, to Raymond and Florene (Lippe) Robinson.&nbsp; Robin grew up in the Clay Center community and was a graduate of Hays High School and attended two years of online education through the University of Phoenix.

 She married James Johnson on July 02, 1988. He survives of the home. 

Robin worked for Phillips Lighting for 16 years and was currently a receptionist for Russell Stover in Abilene, Kansas. She enjoyed visiting farms and playing with her grandson.&nbsp; 

Robin is preceded in death by her parents.

She graduated from Concordia High School class of 1961.&nbsp; She married Eldon E. Moe on June 10, 1962 in Concordia.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on March 14, 2006.&nbsp; They farmed in Thief River Falls, MN for over 40 years before returning to Glasco, KS.&nbsp; 

She was a member of the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries in both Thief River Falls, MN and Concordia, KS.&nbsp; Evonne was passionate about the farming lifestyle, operating the Ortner Steam Engine at Rollag and card playing with her friends.

She is survived by her son James Moe, Vidor, TX; sister Alta Jean Ginn, Great Falls, VA; special friends, Mike and Pam Blochlinger, Concordia and a host of family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Eldon; her parents and brother Don Abbey.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, 2021 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.&nbsp; Burial will follow at Morrison Cemetery, southwest of Concordia.&nbsp; Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 2, 2021 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., all at the funeral home.&nbsp;

He was born August 26, 1999 to Rob Peterman and Jennifer Dawson in Kansas City.

Zach was a people person who could bring a smile to anyone’s face with his great sense of humor.&nbsp; He loved the outdoors, hanging out with family and friends, being a dad to Pete Jr., Lake and Dodge, and being a fiancée to LeeAnna. Zach would not hesitate to help a friend or family member when needed. Zach could work on anything with a motor but especially loved his Pro Street ’86 Chevy C10 truck . &nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his father Rob; uncle Sean Peterman; grandfather Carroll Slupianek; uncle Brad Pretre; uncle Mike Slupianek; cousin Ashley Richardson; and second dad, Joe Larson.

Carolyn graduated from Lindsborg High School in 1961 and Bethany College in 1965 earning her bachelor’s degree. Carolyn then attended the University of Kansas graduating with a master’s degree in education.&nbsp; In 1968, Carolyn established Four Wonders Pre-Kindergarten at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Salina, where she was the director and teacher for 46 years.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Carolyn enjoyed spending time with family and friends, gardening, cooking, and being involved in several community organizations. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Choir, WELCA, Salina Association for Education of Young Children, Kansas Association for the Education of Young Children, Delta Kappa Gamma, and chairman of various committees.

She was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Mildred Larson and sister Rosanna Fredrickson. 

She is survived by her nephews, Jon Fredrickson of Omaha, NE; Jeremy Fredrickson (Amanda Jensen) of Scandia, KS; brother-in-law Ron Fredrickson of Courtland, KS; several cousins; other relatives and a community of friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 3, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Salina, KS with pastor Nancy Mitchell officiating. Inurnment to follow at Salemsborg Lutheran Cemetery in Smolan, KS at 1:00 p.m.

Rita worked at St. John's Hospital and then Salina Regional Heath Center providing clinical data analysis, administrative, and secretarial support for 44 years. Rita loved gardening and flowers and enjoyed spending time tending her garden. She also had a passion for collegiate sports particularly KU basketball and was a member of the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Salina.

Rita was preceded by her parents, Wilfred and Agnes Marx; and brother, Kenneth Marx.

She is survived by her husband of over 33 years, Dennis Oborny; sister, Doris Shane; brother, Bob Marx; and several nieces and nephews.

&nbsp;A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 9 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. and a rosary and funeral mass will be held at a later date.

Raymond Elgin (School Boy) Dunn, Sr., 84, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2021, in Salina, Kansas Raymond was born in College Station, Texas on September 12, 1936, a son of the late Aubrey Jackson. Raymond used his life and gifts to serve the Lord in ministry. Early in his church ministry, Pastor Dunn served as a youth leader in the Southern California First Jurisdiction. In 1971, he started his own church in San Pedro, California called Open Door Church of God in Christ. He and his late wife, Catherine, faithfully served together in ministry in California, Washington, Texas and Kansas. His final assignment was at Loyd Memorial C.O.G.I.C. in Salina, Kansas where he was the pastor for 22 years and also served as the assistant superintendent for the G.E. Patterson District in the Kansas Southwest Jurisdiction. Pastor Dunn had a passion for people and it was displayed in his everyday life. Every person he met he treated as one of his own. He was an encourager to all, and displayed compassion to God's children. Pastor Dunn believed and lived in the power of prayer. He loved to travel and be with his family. Pastor Dunn was kind, joyful, wise and had an infectious smile. He also served in the United States Marines, where he was honorably discharged January 10, 1962. Raymond was united in marriage to Catherine Long on March 7, 1964 who preceded him in death on December 28, 2006. To this union, they were blessed with five children, two of whom preceded him in death as infants. He later married Lillie Smith who served alongside him in ministry. Raymond is survived by his wife Lillie Dunn; daughter Vesa Cunningham and husband Robert of Salina, KS, son Raymond Dunn, Jr. of Salina, KS and Jamal Dunn, Sr. of California. Richard M. Blackwell, 66, of Salina, passed away on Monday, August 30, 2021, in Kansas City surrounded by family and friends.&nbsp;

He was the second oldest of five children and grew up in Salina, Kansas, where he practiced law for over 40 years.&nbsp; He was a graduate of Kansas State University and Washburn University School of Law.&nbsp; If the world is a stage and we are merely the characters on it, Dick was certainly one of the biggest characters.&nbsp; Famous for his good-natured bantering, Dick inspired others to banter back as best they could, and the exchange would be nothing short of comedy.&nbsp; He delighted in cutting through pretense and dismissing matters which caused others to labor over without end.&nbsp; His love of people was his trademark and earned him many lifelong friends.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his sister, Christi Jordan, and father, Richard E. Blackwell.&nbsp;

He is survived by his children, Abby Lamone (Michael), Beau Blackwell (Isabel) and Sophie Lamb (Jeff); grandchildren, Zuzu, Ford, and Whit; his mother, Donita Blackwell; brother, Steven Blackwell (Julie); and sisters, Julie Woerpel (Troy), and Pam Burgoon (Darrell).&nbsp;

Ruth passed away on August 26, 2021.&nbsp;

Ruth Vivian Halloran, age 98, passed away on August 26, 2021, at Park Villa Nursing Home in Clyde, Kansas.&nbsp; Ruth was born on March 10, 1923 to Otho and Goldie Millias. 

Ruth married William Paul Halloran in 1941. They had two children, Allen and Jeneane.&nbsp; 

Ruth lived a long, happy life and enjoyed many different interests.&nbsp; She managed senior housing apartments in several different states before retiring.&nbsp; She was a member of Eastern Star since the 1970s, a member of the Covenant Church in Courtland, Kansas, and also participated in the Red Hat Society.&nbsp; She enjoyed spending time with her family and was always knitting sweaters and blankets.&nbsp; She loved doing puzzles, playing cards, and collecting owls.&nbsp; She was a very generous and loving woman who enjoyed not only her family but friends as well.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, son Allen, her parents, five brothers, two sisters, one grandson, and one granddaughter.&nbsp;

 She is survived by her daughter Jeneane Reid, seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.&nbsp;

Funeral services celebrating Ruth’s life will be held on Friday, September 3, 2021, at 10:00 a.m., at the Covenant Church in Courtland, Kansas. Visitation and reception with the family will follow the services, at the church.

Graveside services will be held the following week at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Worcester, New York. Details to be announced.

Ruth married William Paul Halloran in 1941. They had two children, Allen and Jeneane.&nbsp; Ruth lived a long, happy life and enjoyed many different interests.&nbsp; She managed senior housing apartments in several different states before retiring.&nbsp; She was a member of Eastern Star since the 1970s, a member of the Covenant Church in Courtland, Kansas, and also participated in the Red Hat Society.&nbsp; She enjoyed spending time with her family and was always knitting sweaters and blankets.&nbsp; She loved doing puzzles, playing cards, and collecting owls.&nbsp; She was a very generous and loving woman who enjoyed not only her family but friends as well.Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, son Allen, her parents, five brothers, two sisters, one grandson, and one granddaughter.&nbsp; She is survived by her daughter Jeneane Reid, seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.&nbsp;Funeral services celebrating Ruth’s life will be held on Friday, September 3, 2021, at 10:00 a.m., at the Covenant Church in Courtland, Kansas. Lillian K. Mathiesen, age 94, formerly of Belleville, Kansas, left this earthly life on Friday, August 6, 2021 at South Park East Nursing Home in Oklahoma City, OK. She was born on September 11, 1926 in Butte, Nebraska to Heinrich “Henry” and Katherina “Katherine” (Roth) Schroetlin. Her family moved to Sutton, NE, where she attended the Sutton schools. &nbsp;At the age of 16, Lillian worked at the ammunition depot in Hasting, NE. In 1950 she moved to Wichita, KS, where she worked at American Electric as a bookkeeper.&nbsp;

She married James “Jim” O. Stroh on June 21, 1952. They had two sons, David and Mark, and lived in Wichita for about ten years before moving to Belleville. Lillian worked at the Belleville Building and Loan and later she and Jim opened Jim’s OK Tire Store. Jim passed from a heart attack on April 30, 1973. Lillian continued to own and operate the tire store until she retired and sold the business. She later married Verdell A. Mathiesen on January 16, 1975 in Chester, NE. He preceded her in death on June 26, 2016. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Chester, NE.&nbsp;

Lillian is survived by her sons David (Alesia), Midwest City, OK, and Mark (Kathie), Ellinwood, KS; step-children Debra (Tom) Skucius, Cuba, KS, Denise Mathiesen, Concordia, KS, David (Brenda Shelton) Mathiesen, Berthoud, CO, and Doug Mathiesen, Overland Park, KS; 19 grandchildren; numerous great and great-great-grandchildren; brother Benjamin “Ben” (Jackie) Schroetlin, Omaha, NE; and many nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands James Stroh and Verdell Mathiesen; sisters Erma Franklin, Martha Haas and Esther Brown; brothers Herman Schroetlin, Ted Schroetlin, Bill Schroetlin, Reuben Schroetlin, Arthur Schroetlin and Edgar Schroetlin.&nbsp;

It was Lillian’s wishes to be cremated and the family will hold a celebration of her life on September 11, 2021 with burial of the cremains at the Belleville Cemetery, Belleville, KS. Friends may sign the register book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home, Belleville, KS or Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, KS on Friday, Sept. 10, 2021.&nbsp;

Shelly attended Washington Grade School, Park School, McPherson Junior High and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, Kansas in 1973. She then attended Sidney's School of Cosmetology, Hutchinson, Kansas. Shelly was a member of the First Christian Church in McPherson. Through the years Shelly worked as a hairdresser for Magic Mirror, co-owner of Grass Snatchers mowing service, co-owner of the Ritz Hair Salon, and was a CNA for a private home health care facility for the elderly. She worked as a hostess for the country club, until she became owner and operator of Neighbor's Cafe', McPherson, Kansas for 24 happy years. Shelly enjoyed the Kansas City Chiefs, golfing, her dogs, and dancin. She loved music, baking, giving second chances to people, telling stories, hosting parties, hootie hoo's at Neighbors Cafe, and loved spending time with her friends and family, especially her cafe' family. Michelle Ann Currier was united in marriage to Cameron Wiggins on January 16, 1988 in McPherson, Kansas. This union established their first home together in McPherson. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband Cameron Wiggins of McPherson, Kansas; her sister Debbie Sisson and her husband Steve of Americus, Kansas and her brother Mark Currier of Rose Hill, Kansas; other relatives, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. William “Bill” O'Donnell, 72, died August 20, 2021 in Topeka, KS.&nbsp; He was born on May 2, 1949 in Clay Center, the son of Max and Arlene (Mabie) O'Donnell.&nbsp; 

Bill was raised in Clay Center community.&nbsp; He was active Boy Scouts where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout.&nbsp; Bill was also active in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church where he served as an altar boy for Sunday Mass through grade school and jr. high.&nbsp; Bill was a graduate of the CCCHS Class of 1967 and received first team, all-state honors in basketball his senior year.&nbsp; 

He attended the University of Notre Dame and played football for coach Ara Parseghian.&nbsp; Bill received a bachelor of arts degree from Notre Dame in 1971.&nbsp; In 1975, He received his MBA from UMKC.&nbsp; For over 30 years, Bill refereed sporting events from grade school to the NCAA level until COVID shut down all sports, ending his career in March 2020.&nbsp; He enjoyed the interactions with the players, especially when one would visit with him, years later, about a game Bill had officiated.&nbsp; 

Before returning to Clay Center, Bill was a member of St. Huburt’s parish in Hoffman Estates, IL and Holy Family parish in Inverness, IL.&nbsp; He had recently joined the parish council at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.&nbsp; 

Bill was preceded in death by his father.

Jim was born in Roxbury, Kansas on January 8, 1946, son of the late Bessie Lorena (Birch) and Fred Clayton Shelby. After serving in Vietnam as a United States Marine, Jim returned home and dedicated his life to the family farm. On September 27, 1971, James married Betty VanHoose in Salina. He lived his days as a hard worker, a strong role model for his children and grandchildren, and a kind and loving husband to Betty. Marlin Jay Himmelwright, 77, of Russiaville, Indiana passed away on August 24, 2021. He was born on November 12, 1943 in Salina, KS, the son of Melvin Franklin and Ava Gertrude Himmelwright (Ingram). He married Margaret C. Himmelwright (Stanley) on August 9, 1974 who survives.

Marlin graduated from Salina High School in 1961 and then went on to graduate from Indiana State University. He worked for Continental Steel and Delco Electronics for 37 years as a machine repairman. Marlin loved spending time with his family, being outdoors and gardening. He enjoyed woodworking and metalworking. Marlin was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Kokomo.

Surviving relatives include his wife Margaret Himmelwright of Russiaville, IN; daughters Adina Zajac of Mebane, NC; Amy Allen of Kokomo, IN; son, Kyle Himmelwright (Jayme) of Lexington, SC; step-daughter, Monica Poole (Mark) of Indiatlantic, FL; stepson Steve Sitzes (Terri) of Kokomo, IN; 13 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sister Elvera Riggs of Ft. Worth, TX; Joyce Dickerson of Salina, KS and brother Quintin Himmelwright of Salina, KS.

Early Years 
In his early years, Bill was a talented athlete, playing basketball, 
football, and track. He graduated from Ulysses High School in 1952. He 
served in the US Air Force at Reece Air Force Base, Lubbock, Texas, from
 1953-1957, where he reached the rank of Staff Sergeant and also managed
 the base swimming pools and program. He graduated from Pittsburg State 
University in 1963 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education/Industrial 
Arts. Bill began his teaching career at Excelsior Springs, MO, and 
shortly after started his teaching-coaching career at Emporia High 
School. Later, in Lawrence, he taught at Lawrence High School and West 
Jr High, where he coached basketball and achieved the longest winning 
streak in town. In 1973 he accepted the head coaching job at Hays High 
School, where he took the basketball team to the Kansas State Tourney 
for the first time in 18 years. 
From 1958-1966, Bill and his wife, Jo, managed the swimming pool/summer 
recreation program in Ulysses, and started the AAU competitive swimming 
program. Bill managed the Holiday Park Swim Pool in Lawrence, KS, and 
founded/coached the Lawrence Aquahawks Swim Team from 1967-1978. 
In 1976, he left teaching and began building homes and commercial 
buildings. Barnes Homes was known for the highest quality of 
construction. Bill was an exceptionally hard worker. He was blessed to 
have careers that he enjoyed: coaching/teaching youth and 
designing/building homes.

William ‘Bill’ Myral Barnes, 88, was born May 11, 1933, in Prowers 
County, Colorado, to Katherine (Davis) Barnes and Perry Wendell Barnes. 
He passed away August 24, 2021, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Lawrence,
 Kansas. Bill was the oldest of four children. He is preceded in death 
by sisters Margie Puyear and Ava Mace, and sister-in-law Sheryl Barnes. 
Bill is survived by his wife of 66 years, Josandra ‘Jo’ Colleen (Heyman)
 Barnes; daughter Sharolyn Gayle Wagner (spouse: Jay Wagner) of Salina, 
Kansas; son William Brent Barnes (Vera Galchenko-Barnes) of Singapore;

Patricia Lynn Frazier, 86, died July 10 at the Cedars care facility in McPherson. Pat was a friend of many, a talented businesswoman, loyal member of the St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Parish, and an example of both warmth and grit to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She shared most of her life’s adventures with her husband, Louie, whom she was married to for 64 years before his death in 2016. One of her favorite sayings conveyed the wisdom of humility – “Pride Goeth Before a Fall.” She was born Patricia Kingsbury in 1933, the first child in a family with pioneer heritage in Dickinson County, Kansas. She grew up on the farm near Carlton that her great grandparents had homesteaded in 1870, and drove grain trucks to the elevators in Elmo and Carlton well before she was old enough to apply for a driver’s license. Her early years coincided with the depths of the Great Depression. When her sister Joan died while still a toddler, the family couldn’t afford a burial plot so Joan was buried in a spot donated by relatives in a nearby town. Besides farming, her father also was a pianist who passed along his love of music to her. She started on piano and blossomed into a saxophone player who graced the band at Kansas State University for two years. She continued with piano for many years, teaching piano lessons in McPherson, and introducing music to her children via the piano, though all three fled the piano bench as soon as they were old enough to wriggle away to other instruments. She entered K-State the same month she turned 17, and earned her teacher’s certificate in 22 months. In 1952, as she turned 19, she got her first teacher’s contract earning $300 a month (and $2 for every county and state teacher’s meeting she attended). She taught school in a one-room schoolhouse in Carlton, where she claimed that her most ornery student was her little brother, Steve. Then she was promoted to principal of a two-room school in Hope. As she began her teaching career, she married her boyfriend Louie, whom she had met while in high school at Chapman. Louie worked for the railroad, then later went to work for the Safeway grocery chain. Safeway sent the young couple to Arkansas City, Emporia and Anthony before they landed in McPherson in 1959, where they moved into a home in the then-new Eastmoor Addition. In McPherson, Pat began her 60-year membership in St. Joseph’s parish, including many years involvement with the Altar Society. She also was a member of PEO, a Cub Scout den mother, and a diligent and fearsome competitor in many bridge clubs. Weekends were split between time at her parents’ farm – she helped with wheat harvest well into the 1980’s – or on hobbies that included golf, boating, and enjoying RV life at the lake. She studied to become certified as a Master Gardener by K-State Extension Service, and helped organize garden events in McPherson. Pat was a substitute teacher in McPherson in the early 1960s, and in the mid-1960s began her financial services career with a job at Farmers Alliance Insurance. She loved the challenge at Farmers Alliance, but was frustrated by the sense that her work was not as highly valued as the work of men doing the same job. At one point, when she believed she was being underpaid relative to her male peers, she went to her manager to ask for equal pay. Instead, she was told, “We don’t need to pay women the same as men because wives have husbands to support them and their family.” She was livid, and went home to tell her children, who benefited from that early lesson in workplace equity. On another occasion, she ranked first in a class to learn underwriting skills, but as the only woman in the class she was denied a plaque commemorating completion of the course. When she complained, she was given a Xerox copy of the plaque that the men had received, with her name scratched in by hand. Later, she helped open the local branch of Columbia Savings &amp; Loan, an Emporia-based S&amp;L, and remained branch manager and Vice President for several years. She also worked for a local insurance agency, before temporarily retiring. She unretired when Louie expanded his paint and home furnishings store on North Main Street, Frazier Interiors, and she remained Louie’s business partner and decorating specialist until they sold the store a decade ago. Louie and Pat instilled a love of adventure and historic curiosity in their children. They traveled by car to destinations like Florida, New Orleans, Colorado, Texas and Yellowstone Park -- long summer vacations that included visits to relatives, historic sites and natural landmarks. A feature of trips with Pat was her regular instructions to Louie to pull over and read any historic landmark sign that popped up along the roadside, just to make sure her kids learned a tiny bit of history as they roamed (In later years, she denied responsibility for imprinting the story on her children that Coronado himself built the picnic castle atop Coronado Heights). She helped keep expenses down by lugging along a large electric skillet to cook fried Spam sandwiches in the motel room at night. Pat and Louie continued to travel into their late 70’s, visiting furniture shows, the son who started a new life in Washington DC, and the other son who lured them abroad, to his temporary homes in Mexico City and London. In 2009, Pat fought and won a harrowing, life-threatening battle against a cerebral aneurysm, resulting in emergency surgery and months in recovery. Despite doubts by doctors she would survive, she emerged strong, witty, loving and energetic, prepared for a final decade of life enjoying her friends, many hands of bridge, and a growing family. After years of gentle persuasion, she also helped Louie convert to Catholicism in the final years of his life, which gave them both great joy as he helped contribute to the St. Joseph’s community. She slowed down moderately after Louie’s death in 2016, but continued to enjoy life until her health took a sharp turn for the worse in the past several weeks as her Alzheimer’s quickly advanced. In the final days of her life, one topic of conversation that seemed to bring her joy was tales of wheat harvests past and present, the impact of weather forecasts on crop yields, and the challenges of hustling a cold six-pack of Coors out to the combine before it would grow warm in the late June heat. She is survived by three children: Greg Frazier, Washington, D.C.; Steve Frazier and daughter-in-law Elizabeth Leech, Mercer Island, Washington; and Marcia Frazier-Boos, Wichita. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Jonathan Frazier, Seattle; Dustin Frazier, Wichita; Rosalie Frazier, New York City; and Ceceilia Frazier, of Washington D.C. In recent years, she welcomed into the family Emily Frazier, grandson Jonathan’s wife; and Caitlin Walker, Dustin’s partner and mother of two great granddaughters, Bradleigh and Adelynn Frazier. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Cecilia Lorson Kingsbury; her husband, Louie, and by all three of her siblings: Carolyn Sue Huffman, Steve Kingsbury, and Joan Kingsbury. Graveside services will be held at McPherson Cemetery Tuesday July 14 at 10 am. with Fr. Ben Shockey officiating. The family asks that attendees wear masks and practice social distancing at the cemetery.&nbsp;

She continued with piano for many years, teaching piano lessons in McPherson, and introducing music to her children via the piano, though all three fled the piano bench as soon as they were old enough to wriggle away to other instruments. She entered K-State the same month she turned 17, and earned her teacher’s certificate in 22 months. In 1952, as she turned 19, she got her first teacher’s contract earning $300 a month (and $2 for every county and state teacher’s meeting she attended). She taught school in a one-room schoolhouse in Carlton, where she claimed that her most ornery student was her little brother, Steve. Then she was promoted to principal of a two-room school in Hope. As she began her teaching career, she married her boyfriend Louie, whom she had met while in high school at Chapman. Louie worked for the railroad, then later went to work for the Safeway grocery chain. Safeway sent the young couple to Arkansas City, Emporia and Anthony before they landed in McPherson in 1959, where they moved into a home in the then-new Eastmoor Addition. In McPherson, Pat began her 60-year membership in St. Joseph’s parish, including many years involvement with the Altar Society. She also was a member of PEO, a Cub Scout den mother, and a diligent and fearsome competitor in many bridge clubs. Weekends were split between time at her parents’ farm – she helped with wheat harvest well into the 1980’s – or on hobbies that included golf, boating, and enjoying RV life at the lake. She studied to become certified as a Master Gardener by K-State Extension Service, and helped organize garden events in McPherson. Pat was a substitute teacher in McPherson in the early 1960s, and in the mid-1960s began her financial services career with a job at Farmers Alliance Insurance. She loved the challenge at Farmers Alliance, but was frustrated by the sense that her work was not as highly valued as the work of men doing the same job. At one point, when she believed she was being underpaid relative to her male peers, she went to her manager to ask for equal pay. Instead, she was told, “We don’t need to pay women the same as men because wives have husbands to support them and their family.” She was livid, and went home to tell her children, who benefited from that early lesson in workplace equity. On another occasion, she ranked first in a class to learn underwriting skills, but as the only woman in the class she was denied a plaque commemorating completion of the course. When she complained, she was given a Xerox copy of the plaque that the men had received, with her name scratched in by hand. Later, she helped open the local branch of Columbia Savings &amp; Loan, an Emporia-based S&amp;L, and remained branch manager and Vice President for several years. She also worked for a local insurance agency, before temporarily retiring. She unretired when Louie expanded his paint and home furnishings store on North Main Street, Frazier Interiors, and she remained Louie’s business partner and decorating specialist until they sold the store a decade ago. Louie and Pat instilled a love of adventure and historic curiosity in their children. They traveled by car to destinations like Florida, New Orleans, Colorado, Texas and Yellowstone Park -- long summer vacations that included visits to relatives, historic sites and natural landmarks. A feature of trips with Pat was her regular instructions to Louie to pull over and read any historic landmark sign that popped up along the roadside, just to make sure her kids learned a tiny bit of history as they roamed (In later years, she denied responsibility for imprinting the story on her children that Coronado himself built the picnic castle atop Coronado Heights). She helped keep expenses down by lugging along a large electric skillet to cook fried Spam sandwiches in the motel room at night. Pat and Louie continued to travel into their late 70’s, visiting furniture shows, the son who started a new life in Washington DC, and the other son who lured them abroad, to his temporary homes in Mexico City and London. In 2009, Pat fought and won a harrowing, life-threatening battle against a cerebral aneurysm, resulting in emergency surgery and months in recovery. Despite doubts by doctors she would survive, she emerged strong, witty, loving and energetic, prepared for a final decade of life enjoying her friends, many hands of bridge, and a growing family. After years of gentle persuasion, she also helped Louie convert to Catholicism in the final years of his life, which gave them both great joy as he helped contribute to the St. Joseph’s community. She slowed down moderately after Louie’s death in 2016, but continued to enjoy life until her health took a sharp turn for the worse in the past several weeks as her Alzheimer’s quickly advanced. In the final days of her life, one topic of conversation that seemed to bring her joy was tales of wheat harvests past and present, the impact of weather forecasts on crop yields, and the challenges of hustling a cold six-pack of Coors out to the combine before it would grow warm in the late June heat. She is survived by three children: Greg Frazier, Washington, D.C.; Steve Frazier and daughter-in-law Elizabeth Leech, Mercer Island, Washington; and Marcia Frazier-Boos, Wichita. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Jonathan Frazier, Seattle; Dustin Frazier, Wichita; Rosalie Frazier, New York City; and Ceceilia Frazier, of Washington D.C. In recent years, she welcomed into the family Emily Frazier, grandson Jonathan’s wife; and Caitlin Walker, Dustin’s partner and mother of two great granddaughters, Bradleigh and Adelynn Frazier. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Cecilia Lorson Kingsbury; her husband, Louie, and by all three of her siblings: Carolyn Sue Huffman, Steve Kingsbury, and Joan Kingsbury. Graveside services will be held at McPherson Cemetery Tuesday July 14 at 10 am. with Fr. Ben Shockey officiating. The family asks that attendees wear masks and practice social distancing at the cemetery.&nbsp;A memorial mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 5:30 p.m. with Fr. Ben Shockey officiating and a reception following the service for friends and family. Leslie “Les” Eugene Baker, age 87, passed away at his home in Concordia, Kansas on Friday, August 27, 2021. He was born in Fairfax, Missouri on July 5, 1934 to Herman C. and Vada (Callen) Baker.

The family moved to St. Joseph, Missouri in 1945 where he resided until his service in the United States Army.&nbsp; He boxed in the Golden Gloves as a lightweight contender when living in St. Joseph and, also while in the army while stationed in Germany.

On returning from the army, Les moved to Concordia and was a resident for 62 years.

On October 5, 1968 he married Judith Davidson at the First United Methodist Church in Concordia, Kansas.

Les worked for Big A Auto Parts Store in Concordia for many years as a route salesman.&nbsp; He later worked for Alsop Sand Company for more than 10 years.

Besides his family, his love of hunting and fishing were his great joys in life. 

Les was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was considered a true friend to those who knew him. He was also the best big brother any little sister could have. 

Les is survived by his wife Judy (Davidson) Baker, his daughter Rebecca Zeiher, his sons Brett and Jeff Baker and daughter-in-law Jodi (Trost) Baker, and sister Ann Moran.&nbsp; He has 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Vada.

Visitation will be held Thursday, September 2, 2021 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m with the family receiving friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home.

Duane’s life began on April 8, 1935, the son of William C. and Thelma (Glenn) Biehler in Delavan, Kansas. He graduated from Herington High School Class of 1953. 

He started out as a brakeman for the Rock Island Railroad. He farmed, and had chemical training with the military. He then worked for the Corps of Engineers at Milford Lake and Fort Riley. He was an entomologist and pest control manager for 20 years at Fort Riley until retirement in 2003. 

Duane loved traveling, camping, fishing for large mouth black bass, hunting and he also enjoyed dancing. He was preceded in death by his parents; spouse Mary Ann Biehler; life partner Mary Ann Brown; brother Gerald Biehler; sisters Marilyn Anderson and Joyce Trent.
