Obituary for Dianne Judith (Platt) Ott | Ryan Mortuary

April 12, 1939 ~ December 17, 2021 (age 82)

Dianne Ott, 82, of Salina, Kan., passed away December 17, 2021 at the Salina Presbyterian Manor. She was born April 12, 1939 in San Antonio, Texas.

Dianne married Bob Ott on January 23, 1960. They would have celebrated 62 years of marriage.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Freda Platt, stepmother “Dot” Platt, sisters Carolyn Platt and Patricia (Platt) Montgomery.

Dianne led a full life that included so many cherished memories. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved dogs and had several dogs throughout her life, including two dachshunds. Dianne had a desire to travel and did most of it via motorhome (six different ones) for 46 years. She visited all 50 states, all Canadian provinces (except Newfoundland), and 48 countries (only one more than her husband).

She collected over 400 cookbooks and enjoyed reading them all. She was a “dessert-first” person and always had a supply of cookie dough on hand to prepare freshly baked cookies. She was skilled at needlepoint and made countless pillows and wall hangings. Dianne was an exceptional shopper. Her friends recalled she was the only person they knew who could start a collection in the morning and had it finished by noon the same day.

She had a willingness to serve, as a kindergarten teacher as well as for a multitude of organizations and civic boards including P.E.O. Sisterhood, PTA president for Jr. High, YWCA board member, Emporia State Alumni board member, and Legislative Wives member. She had a fondness for her home state of Texas, “Once a Texan, always a Texan.”

Survivors include her sister Janette Moya of Austin, Texas, husband Bob Ott of Salina, daughters Dana (Ev) Foster of Ocoee, Florida, Julie (Greg) Coon of Plano, Texas, grandchildren Madison Foster and Tyler Foster, Sydney Coon and Brenden Coon, and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. on January 5, 2022 at University United Methodist Church in Salina, Kan. The service will also be streamed live on the church Facebook page:
