Bernie L. White, 70, of Belleville, KS, longtime Ell-Saline educator, passed away on May 28, 2021.

Bernie L. White, the son of Melvin Charles White and Ellen Elizabeth (Reber) White, was born August 2, 1950 in Seneca, Kansas and passed away on&nbsp;May 28, 2021 at the Filmore County Hospital, Geneva, NE at the age of 70 years,&nbsp;9 months, and 27 days.

Bernie grew up and attended school in Vermillion, KS until the age of nine when his family moved to Glen Elder, KS, where he graduated from Glen Elder High School in 1968. Following high school, Bernie attended Cloud County Community College where he thoroughly enjoyed his college experience. He later attended Kansas Wesleyan University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in teaching.&nbsp; Bernie began teaching at Happy Corner Elementary (Ell-Saline, USD 307) in 1975. Students remember the fun atmosphere in the classroom, as well as the way Mr. White cared for each of them and made learning fun. We have yet to meet a former student that does not have a fun experience to share.

While teaching, Bernie completed his master’s degree at Kansas State University and in 1987 began his journey in school administration.&nbsp;&nbsp; As principal at Ell-Saline Jr./Sr. High School, Bernie continued to advocate for all students, to mentor teachers, and began the integration of technology into the classroom.&nbsp;&nbsp; As principal, it was also his job to “chaperone” the senior sneak where he had as much (if not more) fun than the students.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Not only did Bernie enjoy a role in educating future generations, he continued his own education and earned his Ed. D. from Kansas State University. In 1993, he became the Ell-Saline Superintendent where he stayed until retirement in 2005.&nbsp; During his time as superintendent, Bernie continued working to elevate the standard of education to benefit the students, maintain high standards for teachers, oversee building expansion, and lead Ell-Saline Schools to become one of the top schools in the area.&nbsp; He was honored by the district with the Ell-Saline Gymnasium being named in his name at the time of his retirement.

Bernie was united in marriage to Deanna Hoard on March 6, 2010.&nbsp;&nbsp; He later adopted Deanna’s son, Trenton, in 2011. The couple made their home in Formoso, KS and later moved to Belleville, KS.

As much as Bernie enjoyed teaching, he loved being a father and grandfather more.&nbsp; Bernie helped with 4-H projects, attended the many sporting events of his children and grandchildren and offered support, advice, and encouragement along the way. He celebrated his family’s successes and mourned their losses. He took every opportunity to fish, hunt, paintball, and four-wheel with his family. and never passed up a chance to hit the golf course with any family member willing to go.&nbsp; Bernie remained close to his immediate and extended family throughout his life, often organizing and hosting get-togethers and reunions.

Bernie was preceded in death by his parents; son Trenton Mitchell; brother Charles, and beloved aunt and uncles.

He is survived by his wife Deanna of Belleville, KS; children (from previous marriage) Andy White of North Kansas City,&nbsp; Daniel White of Salina, KS, Ellaina (Jason) Brightbill of Salina, KS, and Bridget (Ryan) Brocato of Lee’s Summit, MO;&nbsp;&nbsp; sister Dodi (Don) Fisher;&nbsp; brothers Paul (Carol) White, Ralph (Judy) White all of Salina, KS;&nbsp; grandchildren Jonah Mattson, Dylan &amp; Nolan White, Fallon &amp; Larsen Brocato, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Cremation was selected and memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 24, 2021 at the Trinity&nbsp;United Methodist Church, Jewell, KS with Pastor Jim Rice, officiating.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

The family will greet friends prior to the service at the church from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Inurnment will be at the Randall Cemetery, Randall, KS.

G. Duane Mowbray, 83, a lifetime McPherson County, KS resident, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 22, 2021, with family by his side at McPherson Hospital. He was a boiler fireman, turbine operator, and maintenance foreman at McPherson Water &amp; Electric and Board of Public Utilities for 46 years, retiring on April 1, 2003. George Duane Mowbray was born on November 1, 1937, at his home in McPherson, KS, the son of Walter and Gladys Ava (Pancost) Mowbray. He graduated from McPherson High School in 1956. On September 4, 1960, Duane was united in marriage to Betty Joyce Briggs at the Andover Lutheran Church, Windom. They celebrated 60 years of marriage before her passing on September 6, 2020. He served in the United States Army as a medical corpsman at the Brooke Army Medical Hospital, San Antonio, TX from October 3, 1960 to October 3, 1962. Duane was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he was actively involved in church maintenance for many years. Survivors include: son Darin Mowbray (Billi) of McPherson, KS; daughter Darla Mowbray of Huntington Beach, CA; three grandchildren, Seth Mowbray (Catherine), Samantha Reitsma (Chance), and Danielle Leiker; three great-grandchildren, Lillyth Huff, Emery Huff, and Averi Reitsma; and many extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and five siblings, Ava May Chamberlain, Clinton William Mowbray, Helen Louise Unruh, Marjorie June Blair, and Anna Belle Barnes. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. Barry was a service attendant at the Shell Gas Station, owned and operated by his father (Keith), for 18 years. Barry also spent 23 years as a wastewater services operator for the city of Salina (KS).

He is survived by his mother Helen Flo; his wife Lola; and his three sons, Sheldon Nelson (Lucinda), Roy Nelson (April), and James Nelson (Angela). Barry had four grandchildren, Wes Nelson, Christianna (Christi) Nelson, Destiny (Kai) Nelson, and Eliza Nelson.

He was preceded in death by his father Keith, and his brother Dale.

Faith was very important to Barry. He was a member of the First Church of God for 56 years. He was the head usher for many years and was a huge supporter of youth programs within the church. He was a honorary grandfather to many of the church youth. He loved to help others, had a contagious laugh, and a smile that could light up the room.&nbsp;

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at the First Church of God, with Pastor Willard Ashcraft as celebrant. Burial will follow at Bennington Cemetery, Bennington.

Norah Catherine Figg&nbsp;died in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on December 17, 2020, surrounded by her loving family. She was 89 years old.

Norah was born on February 7, 1931, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Edith and Ebeneezer Ryan. She was the first of four children. Her siblings were Moya, James, and Charles. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Charles, her sister Moya, her daughter-in-law Elizabeth Figg, and her beloved husband Dr. Joseph W. “Joe” Figg.

She is survived by her brother James, and her five children, Michael and wife Linda, David, husband of Elizabeth, Phillip and wife Cindy, Catherine Gaston, and Lawrence. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Norah was an accomplished pianist and organist as well as a music and piano teacher.&nbsp; She displayed a great musical talent from a young age and played many recitals and won many competitions.&nbsp; She was a music teacher at secondary and elementary schools in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Kentucky.&nbsp; She also privately taught many piano and organ students.

Norah met her husband Joe when they were both musical students at Oklahoma City University in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.&nbsp; She married Joe on April 16, 1950 in First United Methodist Church in Guthrie, Oklahoma.&nbsp; Joe was a vocalist, choir director and voice teacher.&nbsp; Norah and Joe worked in several churches together, as organist and choir director.&nbsp; Norah was for many years the organist at First United Methodist Church of Salina, Kansas, where Joe was also the choir director until his death in 2009. Norah was also the accompanist for the Salina Chorale, which Joe directed.

Before her death she lived with and was cared for by her daughter Catherine and her family in Baton Rouge.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at 2:00 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church of Salina.

Z was born in Agenda, Kansas on January 11, 1942, a son of the late Lena (Ryser) and Adolph Zurfluh. Z became a biology teacher and high school athletics coach in Chapman, Kansas after earning his bachelor’s degree from Emporia State Teachers College. This was prior to his relocating to Salina, Kansas. He was an avid bowler, the manager of the New Holiday Bowl, as well as a member of the Senior Bowling League at The Alley, Salina, Kansas. He is also a member of the Salina Bowling Association Hall of Fame. Z is survived by daughters Robyn Zurfluh, of Atlanta, Georgia Cynda Zurfluh (Keven Golla), of Washington D.C. metro area; son Lance&nbsp;Zurfluh (Angel), of Gypsum, Kansas; grandchildren Haley Landis, Grey&nbsp;Golla, Avery Golla, Brynn Golla, Emma Zurfluh and Karlee Zurfluh, and brothe, Walter Zurfluh of Pasadena, California. Hillsboro - Lola Mae Savoia, 96, passed away July 19, 2021 at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro. She was born January 1, 1925 in Hillsboro to Alex and Jessie (Miller) Stratman.

Her mother passed away when she was four years old. Her sister Marjorie was six at that time. Her father then married Mary Funk, to that union were born three children Peggy, Bob, and Bill.

She graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1942 and went on to the school of cosmetology in Wichita.

While working in Wichita, Lola shared an apartment with a friend. The friend’s brother lived upstairs and his friend, Robert (Bob) Washmon visited. Bob and Lola were introduced, dated, and were married in California in January of 1945 where Bob was stationed for his military service. To this union five children were born. Terrie was born in California. They returned to Hillsboro after his military service where Cynthia, Janis, Kim, and Greg were born.

While Bob was hunting pheasant in November 1978 with his brother-in-law Harry Wallenmeyer and grandson Darrin, he had a massive heart attack and passed away. It was a difficult time for Lola.

Lola lived in a home on 2nd street. A widowed neighbor, John Savoia, lived across the street from Lola. She was out sweeping the drive when he walked over to visit. He brought Lola a tray from Colombia. They became friends, started dating and were married in December 1981.

John was a missionary and had served in Colombia most of his adult life. After their marriage they moved to Guadalajara, Mexico. Lola went to language school to learn Spanish. After living in Mexico for about a year, they moved to Cali, Colombia, South America, where they lived for nine years with brief stays back in Hillsboro for furlough. After living in Colombia, John served another three years in Queretaro, Mexico. Then he retired from missionary service in 1994.

They moved to the country outside of Edmond, Oklahoma next to Lola’s daughter Janis. They lived there five years before moving back to Hillsboro in 1999.

Lola was talented and intelligent. She started out her working career as a beautician. For a while she was the head cook at the school. She then worked for the City of Hillsboro, managed the Pizza Hut for a while and finished out her career at First Federal Savings and Loan.

She also loved to sew, making clothes for her daughters and shirts for the boys. She knitted and was an accomplished artist. She made lead glass lamps with the help of Greg. She was a great cook and baker. The cookie jar was seldom empty, not an easy thing to accomplish with five children. Saturday mornings she baked bread and cinnamon rolls. She planted a tree wherever she lived.

Lola is survived by siblings Peggy Hunter, Lakeland, FL; Bob (Dee) Stratman, Tempe, AZ and Bill (Janet) Stratman, Madison, AL. Children Cynthia (Roger) Fleming, Hillsboro; Janis McIntyre, Edmond, OK; Robert (Nicole) Washmon, Leadville, CO and Gregory (Donna) Washmon, Hillsboro. Step-children Johnny (Irene) Savoia, Jamaica Plain, MA; Ruth Restrapo, Wimberly, TX and Tim (Carla) Savoia, Fresno, CA. Grandchildren Shawn (Mike) Vondenkamp, Monte Dalke, Mikki (Seth) Larson, Jessie Nikkel, Robert Benjamin Washmon, Kris (Stacey) Baker and Whitney Darcy.

Step-grandchildren Richard Beman, Jay (Erin) Restrepo, Jack (Lucy) Savoia, Marco Savoia, Rachel (Brooks) Patterson, Caleb Savoia, Faith Savoia Wuerth. 10 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren.

Edna Marian King, resident of Mitchell Co. Resident Care Center in Beloit, KS passed away peacefully on July 20, 2021, at age 87.&nbsp; She was the youngest of ten children born to Phillip and Janie (Griffin) Zillinger on March 13, 1934, in Logan, KS.&nbsp; 

Affectionately known as Marian, she attended schools in Phillips County.&nbsp; Marian was raised on a farm and her favorite childhood memory was on the 4th&nbsp;of July when they had firecrackers and homemade ice cream.&nbsp; She married Melvin King on Sept 22, 1950, in Stockton, KS and was married 31 years.&nbsp; She was a member of the Church of Christ. To this union, six children were born.&nbsp; She worked outside the home when the children got older, as a bookkeeper until she retired. While living in Hays, KS she enjoyed working with the Senior Companion program to assist seniors that were alone and still living in their homes. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and crafting and loved to crochet and embroider.&nbsp; She had travels to 15 states and enjoyed her family and the many friendships that she made along the way. Things that were important in the family were working hard, doing well in school and playing fair.&nbsp; She loved doing things with and for her family.

She is survived by five children:&nbsp; Patrick King, Hays, KS; Diana Stoeber (John), Jewell, KS; Renee Thompson (Rick), Glade, KS; Terali Richardson (Jim), Salina, KS; David King (Lily), Umatilla, FL.&nbsp; She is survived by 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.&nbsp; Also survived by one brother Ray Zillinger (Donna) and sister-in-law Betty Zillinger and a host of nieces and nephews

At the age of 12, Linda and her little sister Donna, age 7, became part of the Walter and Alice Miller family. She was a member of First Christian Church, McPherson, Kansas. Linda Marlene Striker was united in marriage to Michael Ray Chaney on June 3, 1972 at the Free Methodist Church, McPherson, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in McPherson. This union was blessed with the birth of two children, one son and one daughter, James and Carla. Linda worked for Farmers Alliance as a secretary for four years. Linda was a homemaker and she took great pride in providing for her family in this manner. After the kids were in school she started working for U.S.D. 418 Food Service and she retired in 2012. Linda volunteered at Save-N-Share. Linda enjoyed her home and spending time with her family. Rex, Jr. is survived by Ann Hutson (mother), her husband Dave; Rex&nbsp; Branstetter,&nbsp;Sr. (father), his wife Kerstin; Katie Ross (sister), her husband Tony; as well as Isabella Ross (great niece); Ella Mae Branstetter (daughter); Demetri Branstetter (nephew) and his wife Cheyenne; Caleb Ross (nephew) and his wife Shelby along with their daughter Adeline Rose (great niece).

Rex, Jr. will be lovingly remembered by all his family and friends. He truly brought life to the party and knew how to make anyone crack a laugh with his personality like none other.

Rex, Jr. was a master mind in mechanics. He truly enjoyed drinking with friends and family and listening to great music. Most of all he loved being outdoors.

Wanda
 Jean (Deges) Thyfault-Thummel of Hays, Kansas died Monday, July 12, 
2021, at age 72, at the Santa Marta Plaza Health Services in Olathe, 
Kansas.&nbsp; She was born March 2, 1949, to Leonard and Dorothea (Engel) 
Deges and grew up on the family farm by Grainfield, Kansas.&nbsp; She married
 Clarence Thyfault on August 8, 1972 in Grainfield, and from this union 
their son, John Phillip was born.&nbsp; Clarence preceded her in death on May
 28, 1979. Then Wanda married Ralph Thummel on June 5, 1987, in Hays, 
Kansas.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on March 4, 2021.

Wanda graduated from Grainfield Rural High School in 1967, before 
earning her bachelor’s degree in sociology and elementary education in 
1971, graduating with honors from Marymount College in Salina, Kansas.&nbsp; 
She then obtained a master’s degree in elementary education in 1972, 
from Fort Hays State University Hays, Kansas.

Wanda had a 34-year career as an elementary school teacher in both 3rd 
and&nbsp; 5th grade.&nbsp; She began her career as a 3rd grade teacher at St. 
Joseph’s Parochial School in Hays where she taught from 1971 to1973, 
before moving to Plainville where she taught 5th grade from 1976 to 
2005, (except one year of 3rd grade).&nbsp; Mrs. “T”, as students called her,
 possessed excellent teaching skills, knowledge and experience which 
were recognized when she received the Teacher of the Year Award in 
Plainville in 1989, and by regularly being nominated for honors by 
former students.&nbsp; She was the favorite teacher of many students in 
Plainville and was regularly thanked by her former students for changing
 their lives.&nbsp; Mrs. “T” had a passion for teaching that was unmatched, 
caring deeply for each child, and striving to coax the most out of each 
child’s unique abilities.&nbsp; She combined toughness and high expectations 
with love and sincerity in a manner that helped students blossom.

After retirement, Wanda enjoyed outings with her friends, spending time 
with family (visiting and playing cards), reading current events and 
novels, knitting and completing numerous counted cross stitch projects.&nbsp;
 Wanda loved her family very much and was a textbook of family history 
and facts. &nbsp;Also, Wanda enjoyed sharing highlights about her son’s 
biomedical research accomplishments. &nbsp;In addition, Wanda enjoyed 
watching her grandsons Miles and Lincoln grow up, particularly tutoring 
them over the internet during the COVID-19 pandemic.&nbsp; Wanda and Ralph 
made monthly trips to see their grandsons and lavished them with love 
and attention.&nbsp; Although a fantastic teacher, Wanda’s favorite passion 
was being a grandmother.

Survivors include her son, John Thyfault and wife, Jessica, Shawnee, 
KS; two grandsons, Lincoln and Miles Thyfault; one sister, Eileen Curl 
and husband, Don, Beaumont, TX; and Wanda’s brother’s wife, Trudy 
(Thyfault) Deges, Damar, KS; and special aunt, Esther Weber, Salina, KS;
 surviving members from the Thyfault family include sisters-in-law, Pat 
Sis; Trudy Deges; Cathy Smee and husband John; and Mary Engel and 
husband Ron; surviving members from the Thummel family include 
brother-in-law, Mark Thummel and wife, Melinda; four sisters-in-law, May
 Munk; Betty Striggow; Sister Mary Joe Thummel; and Theresa Kriley; also
 Wanda is survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Dorothea Deges;
 one brother, Virgil Deges; and her husbands’, Clarence Thyfault and 
Ralph Thummel; and their parents.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, August 6, 2021, at 
&nbsp;Clines-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas 
67601. &nbsp;The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. at the 
mortuary.&nbsp; &nbsp;A meal will follow at the Hays VFW at 3:30 P.M. followed by 
an inurnment at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Plainville, Kansas at 5:30 P.M.

Robert Joseph (Joe) Foltz was born on September 29, 1927 to Edward Joseph Foltz and Ethel (Van Dyke) Foltz. He went to be with the Lord July 17, 2021. 

His father passed away when he was a baby and he was raised by his mother in Abilene and Topeka. He attended McKinley Grade School and Abilene Jr. High until his mother transferred to Topeka in 1939. He attended Topeka High School where he excelled in basketball and track, and was a lifelong sports fan. 

In 1944, Joe enlisted in the United States Navy, serving in the Pacific aboard the destroyer McCaffery. After the war, Joe enjoyed playing basketball on the Navy team, traveling to various college campuses and occasionally to Mexico. When his enlistment was up he returned to his favorite place and farmed with his uncle Herman and aunt Laura Felbush. On August 21 1949, Joe was united in marriage to Donna Mae Ming in Abilene, and to this union nine children were born. Donna unexpectedly passed away on November 17, 1963.

Joe was active in the New Basel Church where he served as a deacon. He helped organize the Rural Center Ball Club where all nine children played ball. He was on the Rural Center school board when the school was organized and built. Joe drove a school bus, helped his children with their projects at the Holland Sunflower 4-H Club, and enjoyed their fair projects each summer. Joe also farmed, raised registered Angus cattle, buffalo, hogs, chickens, peacocks, goats, horses and pigeons. On October 19, 1969 Joe was united in marriage to Naoma Schmutz Heller, and she and her four children joined his family. In 1985, Joe started a calf care center with his son Gary, and eventually turned the farm and cattle business over to him in 2004. Joe and Naoma then moved from the farm to Abilene in 2013. Joe is survived by his wife Naoma; children Kathy (Ron) Lehnerz, Arizona, Edward (Marilyn),Abilene Stan, Abilene Jody Ford, Arizona Peggy Swanson, Salina Casey (Jane),Abilene Gary (Deb),Abilene Lauri (Harold) Terry, Salina Sherri (James) Hedstrom, Chapman Sally (Dave) Eshelman, Topeka Randy (Kris) Heller, Chapman Ron (Nancy) Heller, Abilene Bruce (Penni) Heller, St. Joh; 34 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; his sister Jane Tharp from Topeka, sister-in-law Clarine Robson, Abilene; brother-in-law Glen Holt, Seattle, Washington; many nieces, nephews and friends. Danner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation with the family will be Thursday July 22 from 6-7 p.m. Funeral service will be held at New Basel Church south of Abilene on Friday July 23 at 10:30 a.m. Inurnment will follow at the Abilene Cemetery.

Richard Louis Worley, 94, died Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at Village Manor in Abilene.

Born May 25, 1927, in Concordia, Kan., he was the son of Hugh and Millie (Daniel) Worley. He grew up on the farm in rural Formoso in Jewell County, attended a one-room schoolhouse and graduated from Formoso High School. Even though he was valedictorian of his class, he did not attend graduation ceremonies because he had enlisted in the U.S. Navy and already was in boot camp, preparing to enter World War II when peace was declared.

He served on the troop ship the USS General J.C. Breckinridge in the Pacific Theatre following the end of World War II. He started officer training at Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif., but the end of World War II meant fewer officers were needed.

After being discharged from the Navy he attended and graduated from Kansas State University in Manhattan where he obtained a degree from the college of agriculture. He made his career in ag lending and banking, primarily working for the Federal Land Bank Association of Wichita, serving as president of the Herington branch office which later was moved to Abilene in 1969.

After leaving the Federal Land Bank he obtained a realtor and broker's license and operated Worley Realty in Abilene in the 1980s. He then became a vice president at the Bank of Herington in 1984, before moving to Osborne where he and his wife Mary owned and operated Midland Business Products with stores in Osborne and Mankato. He also was a Xerox marketing representative.

After retirement he became an account representative for the Kansas Senior Times, a publication for older, active adults. In 2007, he and Mary moved back to Abilene where he shared his love of history by working for the Dickinson County Historical Society.

As a young man, flying was his passion so he earned his private pilot's license and eventually owned two planes. His favorite was a Cessna 140 taildragger.

In 1958, he married Mary Catherine Pfeifer in Ellis, Kansas. They had three children, Kathy, Dale and Daniel. Over the years, they made their home in Herington, Abilene and Osborne. Mary preceded him in death in November 2007.

Survivors include daughter Kathy Hageman (Gary) of Abilene; sons Dale Worley of Abilene and Daniel Worley (Lisette) of Osborne; grandchildren Josh Worley (Lindy) of Osborne, Sasha Schultze (Clayton) of Osborne, Julia Worley of Manhattan, Erik Hageman of Topeka, Kelsey (Andrew) Clarke of Beloit, Raegan (Phill) Shamburg of Salina and Madison (Bobby) Bliss of Downs; 11 great-grandchildren and another on the way.

Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service for Richard at 2 p.m. Friday, July 23, 2021, at Martin Becker Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW 3rd, Abilene. Cremation has taken place.

Charles R. Tingler, 80, of Salina, passed away Friday, July 16. 2021. &nbsp;He was born February 1, 1941, in Sutton, West Virginia.

Following his enlistment in the Army, Charles worked for the Geary County Sheriff Dept. in Junction City.&nbsp; In 1991, Charles moved to Salina and was hired at Schwan’s Pizza Plant, where he worked in the shipping department for several years.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charles T., and Nellie A. Tingler, his beloved wife Sylvia M. (Johnson) Tingler, his sisters Annabelle, Onalee and June, and brother Roy Tingler.

Survivors include his children Nellie Tingler and her significant other Brandon Nash of Salina, son Charles Tingler, Jr. of Lawrence, sister Nelva J. Paul, and sister-in-law Christy Price of Salina, seven grandchildren, Shianne, Skyler, Sasha, Malik, Arielle, Stefan and DaeLynn, and one great-grandchild, Emma.

Per Charles’ request there will be no services.&nbsp; Burial will take place at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery at Manhattan.

Phyllis Jeanne Kronmiller, 91, died July 18, 2021. She was born October 4, 1929, the daughter of Loren and Clesta (Payne) Cline in Bennington, Ks, where she grew up and graduated from Bennington High and was a “Homecoming Queen”. &nbsp;She married Kenneth Charles Kronmiller in 1953.

She is preceded in death by her husband, “Kenny”, and a sister, Carol Lunblad.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Don) Fiske, Truckee, CA; sons, Mike (Tammy) Kronmiller, Arkansas City, Kurt Kronmiller (companion, Belinda Baxter), Salina, Kevin (Shawna) Kronmiller, Salina,&nbsp; Mark S. (Brenda) Kronmiller, rural Salina and a younger sister, Shirley (Jerald) Peterson, Salina. Hillsboro - Charles (Chuck) L. Abrahams was born to Curtis and Anna (Dalke) Abrahams on November 18, 1934, welcomed by his older siblings Verna, Norman and Raymond. Chuck graduated from Hillsboro High School. Chuck enlisted in the Army Reserves on August 17, 1957 as a private. He was honorably discharged from the Army of the United States on April 15, 1963 as a corporal.

Chuck married Genevieve (Genny) Winter on December 2, 1960 in the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church. Chuck and Genny’s first home was a trailer house in Hillsboro. In 1963 their son Brad was born. Five years later Brad welcomed his sister Marci to the family. After living in several different houses they settled into a home on Lincoln Street where they lived for nearly 45 years before residing at Bethesda Home in Goessel.

Chuck worked a variety of jobs including a milk route, parts manager at Irv Schroeder Motors, and as a salesman for Bowman. 

The majority of Chuck’s adult career was spent delivering mail for the U.S. Postal Service. Regardless of the weather, Chuck would walk a 12-mile route, five days a week without a complaint. He enjoyed walking his route, dressed as Santa Claus every December 24. Chuck ended his career working at Circle D into his late 70s.

His hobbies included camping, fishing, hunting and old cars. 

Chuck would do anything for anyone but his #1 passion was his grandkids – Brady, Derek, Brandi and Maci. He loved supporting them at their events. Chuck also enjoyed his woodworking shop. Some of the items he made included: banks out of post office boxes, sequence games, infant cradles, rocking horses, time out benches, and grandfather clocks.

Chuck definitely knew his Lord personally and showed God’s love by caring, giving and through his gentle, kind heart. He was one patient soul!

Homemade ice cream on Sundays was a given. Chuck also loved to grill. At Bethesda, Chuck could be found at his computer playing Solitaire (which he called Solitary), snacking on M and Ms.

Chuck passed away peacefully on July 18, 2021 at Bethesda Home in Goessel. 

Celebration of Life is 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 22, 2021 at First Mennonite Church in Hillsboro officiated by Pastor Tom Harder. Family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the Church on Thursday. 

Family asks that everyone where a mask due to COVID-19. 

Chuck is survived by his brother-in-law Vernon Winter and wife Janice, his son Brad and wife Rose, daughter Marci Heidebrecht and husband Ron, six grandchildren: Bret Nichols (Brogan); Kaci Nichols, Brady Abrahams (Audrey), Derek Kelsey, Brandi Abrahams (Caio), Maci Welker (Ryan), and four great-grandchildren: Lane Phillips, Tatum Nichols, Grace Welker and Peyton Abrahams.

Ronald Albert Payne, 89, of Formoso, Kansas, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2021, at the Jewell Co. Hospital in Mankato, Kansas.

He was born August 15, 1931, to A.C. “Bert” and Vivian (Dyas) Payne, on the family farm four miles south of Formoso. He graduated from Formoso High School in 1949. Ronald spent time farming with his dad until he entered the United States Army in 1951. After returning home from France and leaving the service, he resumed farming, which was a love that he devoted his life to.

In 1958, he married the love of his life, Iva Lea Mullins, in Burr Oak, Kansas. They were blessed with three children, and farmed together for the next 63 years.

Ronald was a faithful Christian and longtime member of the Formoso Community Church, serving as a member on the board for many years.

Farming was a career that he truly enjoyed every day. Over the years, he raised many crops, as well as cattle and pigs. He proudly passed along the enjoyment of farming to his son, but all of his children inherited his hard work ethic by watching their dad. Over the years, Ronald developed a talent for woodworking, and was always looking for his next project. Many of his items were made for family and friends.

Ronald’s quick wit and sense of humor brought smiles to all who knew him, most describing him as ornery. He was always there quickly to lend a helping hand to anyone without hesitation.

Family was most important to him, and he was happiest when everyone was together. He enjoyed all the activities his children and grandchildren were in. He was one you could always find on the floor playing tractors with little ones, and loving on the family pets.

Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, and his three sisters and their husbands; Carol and LaVerne Stansbury, Dorothy and Milford Johnson, and Inez and Vernon Quy, as well as an infant brother.

Hospital in Mankato, Kansas.He was born August 15, 1931, to A.C. “Bert” and Vivian (Dyas) Payne, on the family farm four miles south of Formoso. He graduated from Formoso High School in 1949. Ronald spent time farming with his dad until he entered the United States Army in 1951. He is also lovingly remembered by his nephews, nieces, and a community of friends.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 2t, 2021 at 10:30 a.m., at the Formoso Community Church with Pastor Daniel Waide officiating.
