Ron’s life began on December 29, 1948, in Fairbury, Nebraska. He was the son of Alfred Ray and Arlie Virginia (Hatfield) Freed. 

Ron was a 1967 graduate of Ellis High School in Ellis, KS. He joined the Army in 1968 and in 1969 found himself in Vietnam serving our country. Ron continued his Army career for 17 years until he became disabled. 

He was united in marriage to Joyce McCarty on December 18, 1984, in Abilene. 

Ron was an avid bowler and “enjoyed” being stubborn. He was a member of the VFW Post 1281 in Herington. 

His greatest joy was his family which includes his wife Joyce of Herington; children Robert “Mo” (Vickie) Mowry of Cheney, and Robert (Dawn) Harold of Woodbine; grandchildren Samantha, Megan, Skyler, Robert and Thomas; several great-grandchildren, and his siblings Donald Freed of Great Bend, Kenneth (Jana) Freed of Otis, Timothy (Cherie) Freed of Moscow, and Phyllis Freeman of Wichita. 

Ron passed away at home on September 2, 2021. 

His family will gather with friends on Thursday from September 9, 2021, from 6-8 p.m. at Yazel-Megi Funeral Home, Herington. His graveside funeral service will be held at the Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery, Fort Riley on Friday September 10, 2021, at 2 p.m. with honors led by VFW 1281, Herington.

Harold’s life began on August 9, 1935, in Ramona. He was the son of Alexander and Susanna (Riffel) Hanschu. Harold was a 1953 graduate of Ramona High School. He was united in marriage to Thelma (Wells) Hanschu on August 11, 1957.

Harold was a farmer and cabinet maker most of his life. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ramona, enjoyed softball, repairing old farm tractors and his family.

He is survived by his children Kevin Hanschu, Kelly (Udey) Hanschu, Kim (Mary) Hanschu, and Kris (Cheri’) Hanschu; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a brother, Junior Hanschu.

Harold passed away on September 7, 2021, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Thelma, brothers Harry, Daniel, Arthur, Wilber, and Paul and sister Velma Krause.

His family will gather with friends on Friday from 5-7 p.m. at Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, Herington. His graveside service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Lewis Cemetery, Ramona led by Pastor Clark Davis.

Bobby Wayne Goff, 64, of Concordia, KS, left this earthly life on Sunday, Sept. 5, 2021 surrounded by his family at his home in Concordia, KS.&nbsp; He was born on March 23, 1957 in Wenatchee, WA to Leonard A. &amp; Frances L. (Huddleston) Goff.

He graduated from Jewell High School in 1975.

He married Tina Hill on February 24, 1979 in Concordia, Kansas at The Wesleyan Church.

Bob worked for the Cloud County Highway Dept. as a heavy equipment operator for 30 plus years until his retirement in 2012. He coached girls’ youth softball for nine years and maintained the West Branch and Fairview Cemeteries for 20-plus years.

Bob enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting and gardening, but most of all spending time with his family and friends. He loved to visit and always had a story or a joke to tell.

He is survived by his wife Tina, Concordia; daughter Samantha Goff (Skylar Wiley), Concordia; brother Allen Goff (Joycelyn), Winfield, KS; mother in law Liz Standley, Jamestown, KS; brothers and sisters-in-law, Phillip Hill (Bobbie), Ord, NE, Dale Hull (Rita), Herrington, KS, Scott Hull (Diane), Lincolnville, KS, Bruce Hull (Diane), Lincoln, NE, Lee Ann Peters (Jerry), Gypsum, KS; two grandchildren, Christian and Caidence; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and fathers-in-law Glen Hill and Frank Standley.

It was Bob’s wishes to be cremated and the family will hold a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia with Pastor Al Paredes officiating.&nbsp; The family requests causal dress for the services. Visitation will be on Friday, September 10, 2021 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., all at the funeral home. There will be a private family inurnment at later date in West Branch Cemetery.

He graduated from Concordia High School in 1976.&nbsp; He attended Salina Vo-Tech for drafting.&nbsp; After working for a while, he returned to school and graduated from Cloud County Community College in 1988 and then Kansas State University with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.&nbsp; He worked for K-DOT from 1999-2006.&nbsp; Jim was an avid member of the NRA and enjoyed competitive trap shooting.

He is survived by his longtime partner Teri Smith, Concordia; son Jay Smith (Staci), McPherson; grandchildren Ethan and Wyatt Shanks, South Hutchinson; brother Jerrod Ryals (Stephanie), Clay Center; several nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Charles ‘Chuck’ Ryals.

Loretta E. Rider, 79, of Salina passed away on Sunday, September 5 at Salina Regional Hospital. Loretta was born on August 21, 1942, at the family farm near Westfall, KS to Lorenz and Anna (Wacker) Meier. She attended a one-room elementary school at St. Paul’s Lutheran Parochial school and graduated from Lincoln (KS) High School in 1960.

She was united in marriage to Norman D. Rider on December 25, 1959, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lincoln. They were blessed with three daughters, Jodi, Vickie, and Janell. They later moved to Salina where Loretta lived until her death. She was a successful "Avon Lady,” going door to door with her trusty Avon bag and was a member of Avon’s President’s Club for years. She later worked at Young World and then Dillons, both in Sunset Plaza, where she retired after nearly 25 years. She met many wonderful people through her retail career who became lifelong friends, that she still regularly kept in contact with.

She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Salina for over 50 years where she was on several committees and volunteered making “goody boxes” for the military and college members. She had just become a Stephan Minister. She volunteered for several years at Rolling Hills Zoo and loved making the diet for her “chimps”. She was the glue that kept our family together especially during the years while Norman was an over-the-road truck driver. Her faith in God and family were the absolute, most important things in her life. Her children, grandkids and bonus kids and grandkids were her most treasured gifts.

She is survived by her daughters Jodi (Mark) Fisher, of Bennington, Vickie (Russell) Musselman, of Solomon and Janell (Thomas) Weeks, of Winfield; seven grandchildren, Jared (Faith) Rinderer, Ramstein AFB, Germany, Blake (Sarah) Rinderer, Altus, OK, Chad Rinderer, Salina, KS, Melissa (Jake) George, Salina, KS, Bradley Musselman, Solomon, KS, Matthew Jirak, Wichita, KS and Brittney (Mack) Stroup of Yulee, FL; six stepgrandchildren, Michael Fisher (Becky) of Marysville, Matthew Fisher (Tasha) of Colorado Springs, CO, Jackie Fisher, Paola, KS, Brett Fisher (Marcella) of Franklin, WI, Brandon Fisher (Ally) of Paola, KS and Daniel Fisher of Collinsville, IL; three great-grandchildren, Cody Stroup, Acacia Weeks, and Korbin Bosley; six stepgreat-grandchildren, Nathan and Dominic Fisher, Mackenzie, Mackayla, Hayden, Cayden Fisher. She will always be known to her grandkids as “Granny”!! She was preceded in death by her husband Norman, special friend Tom Scott, her parents, sister Hulda Wilkie and brother Eldon Meier, sister-in-law Sharon Meier and brother-in-law Tom Kilcoyne and niece Karen Peak.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 8, from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. at Ryan Mortuary, Salina, with the family present. Funeral services will be Thursday, September 8, 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Salina, KS with Pastor Dennis Kootz officiating.

She later worked at Young World and then Dillons, both in Sunset Plaza, where she retired after nearly 25 years. She met many wonderful people through her retail career who became lifelong friends, that she still regularly kept in contact with.She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Salina for over 50 years where she was on several committees and volunteered making “goody boxes” for the military and college members. She had just become a Stephan Minister. She volunteered for several years at Rolling Hills Zoo and loved making the diet for her “chimps”. Our Dad, Rodney Lee Anderson, was the son of David and Myrtle (Mattson) Anderson. He was born on November 26, 1932 in Hutchinson, Kansas. Rod and his sister, Sonja (Anderson) McIntyre,were raised on a farm south of Windom, KS. They labored as a family team to work their land in good years and bad, to include throughout the Great Depression. Rod attended Alpha Country Grade School and graduated from Windom High School in 1950. He was baptized and confirmed in his faith as member of Andover Lutheran Church. His faith and his church communities were central to his life.

Rod attended Bethany College, where, during a chapel service his freshman year he met a pretty farm girl from Lindsborg named CeCelia Esping. During their sophomore year they began a love story that would last a lifetime. After proposing to CeCelia, Rod volunteered for the Korean War draft and served as a photo imagery analyst in the U.S. Army’s 417th Engineer Aviation Brigade. He joined the 417th EAB in Korea and soon thereafter was transferred to Japan where Rod served out the remainder of his hitch. Rod made lifelong friends in the Army, and he and his “Army buddies” would reunite every two years at various locations around the country. He was a patriot!

After returning stateside, he married CeCelia Esping on July 17, 1955 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Lindsborg, Kansas. He and CeCelia had three sons: Darcy, Darren and David. Their marriage was a model of Christian love and devotion to each other and to their wedding vows. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in July, 2021.

After their wedding, Rod used the G.I. Bill to attend Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. He graduated with a degree in electrical engineering in 1958 and went on to become a professional engineer, licensed to practice in Kansas and two other states. Early in his career he worked at the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) in Washington, D.C. Later he moved to Littleton, CO to work for Martin Company where he designed electrical connections for the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) program. His job at Martin Company took him and his family to Cape Canaveral, FL two times for six months each. In 1965 they moved to Ft. Smith, Montana, located by Yellowtail Hydroelectric Dam, where Rod was a project engineer for the Bureau of Reclamation.

In 1967 Rod and his family moved to Salina, KS to be close to family. Here he did the electrical design for various facilities such as schools (too numerous to count), athletic facilities, banks, hospitals, jails, and manufacturing facilities. The Smoky Valley Chapter of the Kansas Society of Professional Engineers honored Rod’s service twice – with the Engineer of the Year Award in 1999 and with the Kansas Society of Professional Engineers Award in 2016.

In 1984 Dad began a new phase of his career, serving as an associate professor at Kansas State University–Salina where he taught various electrical courses for 14 years. Upon his retirement in 1998 he was eminently proud to be honored with the title of “Professor Emeritus” from his alma mater.

Rod made a mark on the lives of many Salina youth over his 20 years of leadership in the Boy Scouts of America. As scoutmaster, he led Troop 22 of Redeemer Lutheran Church to be one of the most active troops in the area. Campouts were held every month, come rain, shine or snow. Twice he led Scout groups on wilderness canoe trips from the Northern Tier High Adventure Base in Ely, MN. He loved to teach boys about the outdoors, watch them advance in scouting and develop into young men. In 1976 Rod received the Lamb Award, a national recognition bestowed on Lutheran adults by the National Lutheran Association on Scouting.

During his retirement he and CeCelia enjoyed traveling and exploring every state in the U.S. (except Alaska) and visiting friends and family. He loved tending his yard, and watching things grow. He enjoyed watching his beloved KSU Wildcats compete, especially in football and basketball. Rod served on the Redeemer Lutheran Church Council for two terms.

Most of all, Dad loved his family. His greatest joy in life was spending time with any of his boys and their families, grilling a good steak or hamburger, reminiscing about the past or discussing plans for the future. He loved hearing about Darren and Sandra’s various projects or riding in their RV; visiting Dave, Kara and their family wherever the Army moved them; and many trips to Darcy and Kay’s home in Texas for the holidays. Rod fought so hard and so long to live, just because life was too darned much fun to do otherwise!

Being “Grandad” was the biggest honor of his life. He loved spending time with Corbin and Hayden, and Katy, Kurt and Kelsey wherever and whenever he could. He had a special relationship with each one of them and he loved watching his grandkids compete in their sports. He loved reading to them and being their “Santa Claus” at Christmas. He loved talking with them on the phone. He even figured out how to text with them in his later years.

On one cold winter’s day in Baltimore in 1997, Rod encouraged his sons to help push a stranger’s car that was stuck by saying, “Come on boys. Let’s give them a push. You’ll feel good about yourself all week.” That summed up Rod’s approach to living his faith and his serving his fellow man – simply, meaningfully, and without any need for recognition.

Dad loved to say, “who has more fun than people?” To honor his life and his memory, Rod would want you to go out and do something you enjoy. Do it....and he will be smiling down on you!

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Salina, KS at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 9. Due to COVID-19, the family respectfully requests attendees to wear a face mask. The service will also be live-streamed on the Redeemer Lutheran Church’s Facebook page.

Donald married Del Jeane Koch in Holyrood, KS on January 20, 1980.

He was a longtime resident of Holyrood where he was vice president of finance and CFO for H&amp;B Communications. He was an active member of the Hutchinson Seventh-Day Adventist Church where he was an elder.

Donald is survived by his wife Del Jeane of Holyrood; sons Justin Nash and Brent Nash both of Holyrood; grandchildren Hailey and Emily; brother Ron Nash; sister Linda Nash; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. 

Funeral service: 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Holyrood with burial following in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends 9-11 a.m. prior to the service at the church.

Eleanor was born on December 20, 1938, along with twin brother, Edwin, in Newton, Kansas. The twins, born approximately two months early, were a surprise to their parents, Albert H. and Bertha R. (Regier) Busenitz, who were expecting only one beautiful baby. Eleanor grew up in a godly home and trusted Christ as her savior at an early age. Her decision to follow Christ became the center of how she viewed and practiced life.

Eleanor attended the rural one-room District 85 grammar school and went on to graduate from Berean Academy High School in 1957. During her high school years, she began dating Delmer Wiebe, but due to his upcoming commitment to spend two years in Paraguay for voluntary service, she attended Grace University in Omaha, Nebraska. 

Upon Delmer‘s return from Paraguay, Eleanor and Delmer married on November 27, 1959 and settled in the local area. Together, they were blessed with four children and eventually, the family expanded to nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren at the time of her death. Eleanor was a promoter of hard work and discipline, never shying away from the responsibilities and obligations that come with being the oldest of eight children growing up on a farm. She often shared and repeated slogans which she learned during her childhood years. These “mom-isms” were short and simple but important messages which helped shape her children during their years at home. A less than energetic look during a chore or task was met with the phrase “Work is a blessing,” or a spilled glass of milk would initiate “Haste makes waste.” Eleanor loved to challenge others with riddles, and enjoyed writing poems that she delivered to each of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren on their birthdays. She also had a real heart for elderly people. On Halloween, we children went trick or treating to the homes of elderly people in the community, and she required us to sing a hymn for them before they gave us a treat.

Baking was something Eleanor really enjoyed too. She loved baking yeast breads and often shared her delicious baked goods with her family and friends, which became her way of encouraging others. She enjoyed looking through cookbooks to find new recipes that sounded fun to make. 

Eleanor also loved the radio, listening to hymns and Christian programming while she worked. The radio was on from morning to night, allowing her to keep up with the news and to be encouraged by Christian radio speakers and good music. Many times she took notes of things she wanted to remember. Eleanor developed a mental toughness dealing with a variety of health issues that included lifetime effects of seizures from scarlet fever at age seven, type I diabetes at age 26, breast cancer, triple bypass surgery, near blindness, as well as the recent effects of dementia, but she never lost her faith or joy in living life. Eleanor passed away on Friday, September 3, 2021, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.

She is preceded in death by her parents, infant sister Eldena Busenitz and grandson Kameron Wiebe.

Eleanor’s greatest joy was her family, who will carry with them her example of living life with contentment and strong character. Her family includes husband Delmer of Newton; children Lenora (Lyle) Wiebe of Whitewater, Wesley ( Sandy) Wiebe of Willis, TX, Dale (Cheryl) Wiebe of Woodland, TX and Deloise Wiebe of Wichita; grandchildren Krista (Kevin) Friesen, Kendal (Denise) Wiebe, Kayla ( Daniel ) Kornfeld, Karlin Wiebe, Jack Wiebe, Bradley Wiebe, David Wiebe, and John Wiebe; great grandchildren Wyatt, Garrett, Addison, McKenna, Jake, Thea, Ariana and Caden; her siblings Edwin Busenitz of Peabody, Velma (Donavan) Claassen of Whitewater, Willis (Nadine) Busenitz of Busby, MT, Gladys (Tom) Bender of Gilmer, TX, Frieda ( William) Pitts of Org Valley, AZ, Irvin (Karen) Busenitz of Santa Clarita, CA, and Verna ( Delmer) Unruh, and many nieces and nephews. The twins, born approximately two months early, were a surprise to their parents, Albert H. and Bertha R. (Regier) Busenitz, who were expecting only one beautiful baby. Eleanor grew up in a godly home and trusted Christ as her savior at an early age. Her decision to follow Christ became the center of how she viewed and practiced life.Eleanor attended the rural one-room District 85 grammar school and went on to graduate from Berean Academy High School in 1957. During her high school years, she began dating Delmer Wiebe, but due to his upcoming commitment to spend two years in Paraguay for voluntary service, she attended Grace University in Omaha, Nebraska. Upon Delmer‘s return from Paraguay, Eleanor and Delmer married on November 27, 1959 and settled in the local area. Together, they were blessed with four children and eventually, the family expanded to nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren at the time of her death. Eleanor was a promoter of hard work and discipline, never shying away from the responsibilities and obligations that come with being the oldest of eight children growing up on a farm. She often shared and repeated slogans which she learned during her childhood years. These “mom-isms” were short and simple but important messages which helped shape her children during their years at home. A less than energetic look during a chore or task was met with the phrase “Work is a blessing,” or a spilled glass of milk would initiate “Haste makes waste.” Eleanor loved to challenge others with riddles, and enjoyed writing poems that she delivered to each of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren on their birthdays. She also had a real heart for elderly people. On Halloween, we children went trick or treating to the homes of elderly people in the community, and she required us to sing a hymn for them before they gave us a treat. Baking was something Eleanor really enjoyed too. She loved baking yeast breads and often shared her delicious baked goods with her family and friends, which became her way of encouraging others. She enjoyed looking through cookbooks to find new recipes that sounded fun to make. Eleanor also loved the radio, listening to hymns and Christian programming while she worked. The radio was on from morning to night, allowing her to keep up with the news and to be encouraged by Christian radio speakers and good music. Many times she took notes of things she wanted to remember. Eleanor developed a mental toughness dealing with a variety of health issues that included lifetime effects of seizures from scarlet fever at age seven, type I diabetes at age 26, breast cancer, triple bypass surgery, near blindness, as well as the recent effects of dementia, but she never lost her faith or joy in living life. Eleanor passed away on Friday, September 3, 2021, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston. She is preceded in death by her parents, infant sister Eldena Busenitz and grandson Kameron Wiebe.Eleanor’s greatest joy was her family, who will carry with them her example of living life with contentment and strong character. Les Brotton, 64, passed away Saturday, September 4, 2021. He was born September 9, 1956, to Elvin and Irene (Belcher) Brotton of Salina. He was a lifelong resident of Salina.

 He is survived by his daughter Danielle (Jeff) Lee of Salina, daughter Morgan (Thomas) Kempf of Colorado Springs, and two grandchildren, Barrett Lee and Emersyn Kempf. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Suzette Brotton (Zoucha), and brother Kim Brotton. 

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and daughter Jessica Brotton.

Les grew up in rural Saline County on the family farm. He participated in Saline Valley 4-H and helped with the duties inherent to raising livestock and farming wheat. He attended Stimmel Grade School, Happy Corner Elementary School, and graduated from Salina Central High School in 1974. He later attended Kansas State University and was a member of Sigma Nu.

Les worked in road construction for over 40 years. He started his career with Brown &amp; Brown of Salina. He also worked for Saline County Road and Bridge, Shears, Hall Brothers, and Bettis Asphalt. He was an expert in operating heavy equipment, traffic control and safety, road maintenance, and subgrade manipulation. Any time you took a trip with him, he shared his love for his work by providing a detailed lesson at each construction site he passed.

Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 8 at Ryan Mortuary, 137 8th Street, Salina, KS. Family will be present and receiving friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. There will be a graveside service for family and friends at Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Thursday, September 9 at 10:00 a.m.

 Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, everyone will be required to wear a mask.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, in care of Ryan Mortuary.

Roseann grew up in Kansas City, Missouri where she attended Christ the King Grade School and Bishop Hogan High School. Roseann married the love of her life, Daniel Ray Radford on September 11, 1971. In 1982, they moved to Salina, Kansas with their two children Shawn and Shannon. Throughout her life, Roseann worked various secretarial jobs and retired as a bookkeeper from OCCK in 2010. She was a dedicated KC Royals and KC Chiefs fan, which made red and blue her favorite colors. Roseann’s dream came true when she attended Royals Fantasy Camp in 2012; she was the only woman out of 70 participants that year. In fact, she was one out of two women to ever attend. She loved the Lake of the Ozarks and spent summers there with her husband Danny, where she enjoyed fishing, boating, and hosting friends and family.

Roseann was organized and determined, didn’t know a stranger, was a loyal wife, loving mother, devoted Mamaw, compassionate sister, fun aunt and faithful friend. For the last 50 years, Roseann was always by Danny’s side doing projects, whether it was working in the yard, on a car, or building a house. Their motto was “If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right.” 

We truly are going to miss her fun loving, spunky personality and smiling face. Lynda Sue Anderson, 66, of Smolan passed away Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at her home.  Lynda was born February 11, 1955 in Salina, KS to Leo E. and  JoAnn (Lindgren) Anderson.  

Lynda was a 1973 graduate of Lindsborg High School.  She earned her bachelor’s degree from Bethany College in 1977.  She was a physical education teacher in the Washington school district, and coached volleyball and basketball at Washington High School, in Washington, KS, for 30 years. In 1983, Lynda was the 2A Kansas State High School Coach of the Year.

Lynda was a member of Salemsborg Lutheran Church. She also served as a Kansas State High School Athletics Association official for volleyball and basketball.  Lynda was named the Bethany College’s 2009 Alumni Coach of the Year.

She is survived by her brother Doug Anderson (Mary Beth) of Lindsborg, KS;  her sisters Jane MacDonald (Patrick) of Smolan, KS, and Sonja Marston (Richard) of Roxbury, KS; aunt Jeanette Waage of Lindsborg, KS; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Lynda was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 7 from 5-7 p.m. at Crick-Christians Funeral Home, 103 N. Washington, Lindsborg, KS.

The funeral will be held 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 8 at Salemsborg Lutheran Church, 3831 W Salemsborg Rd, Smolan, KS with Pastor Ben Fulton officiating.  Burial will follow in Salemsborg Lutheran Cemetery.

Charles Edgar "Charlie" Burch, 87, of McPherson, KS passed away&nbsp;peacefully Saturday, September 4, 2021 at Salem Home, Hillsboro, Kansas. Charlie was born in Granola, Kansas on March 30, 1934, a son of Esther Elizabeth (Halfhill) and Edgar A. Burch. Charlie attended the Roxbury grade school and graduated from Roxbury High School, Roxbury, Kansas in 1952. He occasionally attended Countryside Covenant Church with his daughter Molly. Charlie entered into the United States Navy on May 27, 1952 at Kansas City, Missouri and honorably served during the Korean War and was discharged on May 22, 1956. He received the National Defense Service Medal and his most significant duty assignment was U.S. Navrecsta Pearl Harbor, T.H. He served on the USS Moore and USS Wettaburn. He also earned the Realm of the Golden Dragon Card. Charles "Charlie" Edgar Burch was united in marriage to Gloria Rulona on May 9, 1954 in Kailua, Hawaii. The young couple established their first home together in McPherson. This union was blessed with the birth of five children - three daughters and two sons, Teresa, Charles Jr., Gloria Jean, Vaughan and Molly. Gloria died on February 3, 2019. Through the years Charlie worked for Kenneth Moone of Roxbury, Kansas as a farm hand, the city of McPherson as a police officer and for the McPherson Park Department for 13 years before working for the county in the sheriff's office for 17 years. He then began working for the McPherson County Public Works Department from which he retired in 1993. Charlie was a member of IOOF, and the Kansas Sheriff's Association. He enjoyed dogs, horses, growing plants, and loved his family. He also liked to cook and he canned the vegetables he grew. He also spent time watching tv, especially The Pioneer Woman.

Charlie served as an armed color guard under President Eisenhower and was Bob Dole's personal driver while visiting McPherson County. He is survived by his children Teresa Mandevill, of Bluff City, Kansas, Charles Burch, Jr. and wife Miriam, of Baldwin City, Kansas, Gloria Jean Vernon and husband Larry, of McPherson, Kansas, Vaughan Burch and wife Jennifer, of McPherson, Kansas, and Molly Stucky and husband Dale, of McPherson, Kansas; his sisters Ruth "Liz" Anderson and husband Carl, of Big Drake, Colorado and Margaret Zimmerman and husband Elmer, of McPherson, Kansas; his 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Upon graduation, he joined the U.S. Army and served from 1961 to 1964. After he served in the military, he hauled rock for Lincoln County. He enjoyed many years and had a very successful career as a surveyor for the state of Kansas.

However, his true love was traveling the country with his wife, Nancy, and visiting many friends. It gave him much joy to visit and talk with anyone he met. Traveling in the motorhome all those miles meant many friends made in their RV group, Newmar Kansas Kountry Sunflowers. He was proceeded in death by his parents Elizabeth and Vincent Flaherty, and brothers Russ and Gary.

Maxine (Gardner) Branfort died September 4, 2021, at Park Villa Nursing Home, Clyde, KS at the age of 94.&nbsp; Max was born in the Sherman community September 29, 1926, in Clay County, KS to Guy and Babe (Bouley) Gardner. She attended school there until the 5th grade when the family moved into Clifton, finishing her education at the Clifton School.

On October 2, 1944, she was united in marriage to Bill Branfort. They were married 68 years. Max farmed alongside Bill and was a busy farm wife and mom to three kids. Although she was busy, she was always the first to volunteer for helping with school, church, sports and any activity her children were involved in.

After her kids were on their own, she was employed at the First National Bank and Turner Funeral Home in Clifton, KS.&nbsp; She was a volunteer for Meadowlark Hospice and Clifton Community Care Nursing Home. Taking care of others was her lifelong mission.

Her hobbies were sewing, knitting, and doing embroidery work. She loved to play cards and was in several card clubs and bridge clubs.

She was a member of Faith United Church, the Willing Helpers Club, and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 227 where she served as unit president and also served as district president.

She is preceded by her husband Bill Branfort; sons Phillip Branfort and Mark Branfort; her siblings Raymond and Dorothy Gardner, Doran Gardner, Mary Rowland; and her beloved little sister Ada.

 </figure><a href="https://www.nsrfh.com/obituary/maxine-branfort">Obituary | Maxine Branfort | Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home (nsrfh.com)</a>September 29, 1926 - September 4, 2021Maxine (Gardner) Branfort died September 4, 2021, at Park Villa Nursing Home, Clyde, KS at the age of 94.&nbsp; Max was born in the Sherman community September 29, 1926, in Clay County, KS to Guy and Babe (Bouley) Gardner. She attended school there until the 5th grade when the family moved into Clifton, finishing her education at the Clifton School.On October 2, 1944, she was united in marriage to Bill Branfort. They were married 68 years. Max farmed alongside Bill and was a busy farm wife and mom to three kids. Although she was busy, she was always the first to volunteer for helping with school, church, sports and any activity her children were involved in.After her kids were on their own, she was employed at the First National Bank and Turner Funeral Home in Clifton, KS.&nbsp; She was a volunteer for Meadowlark Hospice and Clifton Community Care Nursing Home. Taking care of others was her lifelong mission.Her hobbies were sewing, knitting, and doing embroidery work.
