Randall Joseph Shaffer, 62, of Salina, passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2021. He was born July 5, 1959 to Donald J. and Sylvia (Pounds) Shaffer in Salina. He graduated from Salina South High School and lived in Arkansas City and Lawrence.

He survived by his parents; son Cole Shaffer (Emily); brother Brad Shaffer (Dana) of Salina; granddaughters Charlie, Nora and Wren; nephew Tyler Shaffer (Ashley) of Olathe; and great nieces and nephews Hadley, Piper and Miles.

Wayne L. "Bud" Boyd Sr., 82, passed away Monday, November 1, 2021. He was born in Salina on October 23,1939 to Ruby and Della (Garrison) Boyd.

Wayne worked in various positions for the United States Postal Service for 34 years. He and Deloris then moved to Lincoln, KS where he helped start Faith Baptist Church, and served in the nursing home ministry as well as other ministries for 15 years. They moved back to Salina in 2010.

He is preceded in death by his first born child, Debi Comer, his parents, and eight siblings.

Wayne is survived by his wife Deloris and three children, Diana (Les) Glavin, Dory Boyd (Portia) and Wayne "Buddy", Jr. (Pam) Boyd, and brother Bill Boyd.

He also enjoyed his grandchildren Stephanie (Josh) Bowman, Levi (Jamie) Glavin, A.J. (Liz) Boyd, Sydney Glavin, Joel Glavin, and Wyatt Boyd, along with his great-grandchild Caylei Comer.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at Ray Avenue Baptist Church, 2801 E. Ray Avenue, Salina KS.

She married William (Bill) Hedden September 27, 1969, in Udall, Kansas where they lived until 1975, when they moved to Winfield, Kansas. 

Adelia loved taking pictures and she enrolled in the Canon Photography Masters classes where she received their 4-star Canon Masters Photography award. In 2004, she was awarded outstanding achievement in amateur photography by the International Society of Photographers. She also loved babysitting for many years and sitting at Island Park just watching all the wildlife.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Bill, her sister Debra Mahaffy of Derby, brother Richard Rightmeier of Mankato, sisters-in-law Pam (Duane) Shockey of Haysville, Annette (Brad) Enegren of Wellsville, and Bonita (Darren) Nichols of Floral City, Florida, and many nieces, nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Glenn and Ina Rightmeier, mother and father in-law Bonnie and John Hedden, brothers-in-law Butch Mahaffy and Clyde Hedden, and nephew Richard Shockey.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. Friday, November 5, 2021, at Melby Mortuary, with family receiving friends during this time.

Mikah Jensen Leigh Ansell, infant son of Andrew Ansell and Alexus Barlow-McKenna of Herington, passed away unexpectedly on October 28, 2021, at the Herington Municipal Hospital. 

Mikah was born on July 27, 2021, at Irwin Army Hospital in Ft. Riley, KS. Mikah’s life on earth might have been short, but the impact he made on his parents' and grandparents' lives will be long lasting. 

Mikah is survived by his parents of the home, his maternal grandparents John Mckenna and Zarra Barlow, paternal grandparents John Herrick and Kathryn Ansel; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many other relatives.

Donna Lee Ida (Harcey) Wright was born in Uti­ca, Minnesota, on March 4, 1934, as the sixth of 11 children to Ralph and Ruby (Small) Harcey. 

As a farm girl, she learned early how to lovingly invest in her family. She was a good student and always valued her education. Reading became her life-long passion, especially in later years, when chores no longer consumed her days.

She accepted Christ as her Savior as a child through the Rural Bible Crusade missionary. As she helped with VBS by leading music, she made a personal commitment to Christ, and began serving Him by teaching Sunday school and children’s clubs soon after. Donna graduated from St. Charles High School in 1951. Donna attended Midwest Bible and Missionary Institute for the purposes of preparing for the mission field. There she met Richard Wright, her husband, who was also preparing for Christian service.

Richard and Donna married July 17, 1954, in an outdoor wedding in St. Charles, MN and returned to resume their college education. Though Richard and Donna farmed in early married life, Richard was soon called to the pastorate. In their 67 years of marriage, they served in five different churches in various denominations, always ready to teach the scriptures. Donna is remembered by her children as the children’s church teacher, carefully walking through the Old and New Testaments with her flannelgraph stories. In addition, the pastor’s wife was found leading Christmas programs, providing special music, preparing newsletters, and doing office work. Richard, her husband, credits his success to her partnering with him in service. When asked what career Donna had, the answers are varied. She has been a pastor’s wife, accountant, store owner, cook, school teacher/daycare director, and always a faithful housewife and patient mother. Her nurturing spirit drew all who knew her to love her. She frequently inquired about the concerns and activities of her friends and family and maintained an active relationship with them. Donna was a lovely soprano, but enjoyed trios over the years. When the family prepared to travel and sing as a support to Dad’s ministry, Donna taught separate parts to the children, so that duets, trios, quartets and fam­ily numbers all had their harmonies in concert. On her last birthday, the entertainment was the family singing Mom’s favorite hymns and songs in close harmony.

Christian education was important to Donna. She completed her bachelor’s degree from Liberty University in 1994, fulfilling her life-long dream and enabling her to teach in St. Charles Christian School. Each of her children also attended Christian high school and Christian college, with a design toward being ready to serve the Savior. 

Those investments and many prac­tical conversations about living for Jesus gave a Biblical worldview to her children, which has since passed on to her grandchildren. All five children have been involved in Christian ministry full-time, either in missions or Christian education. Her grandchildren continue the legacy of being involved in education and/or church ministry. Her legacy is described in Ps 61:5 “For you, O God, have heard my vows; you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name.” Donna is survived by her husband Richard, and their children Paul (Beth) Wright, Mendoza, Argentina; Cherry (Elwyn) Stucky, Whitewater, KS; Sandra (David) Smith, Palmer Lake, CO; Rochelle “Shelly” (Dale) Friesen, Walton, KS; and Richard “Ric” (Jamie) Wright, Elbing, KS; grandchildren Keren, Jon (Amber), Lisa (Jorge), Ben (Rachel), Josiah, Matthew, Mark, Jordan (Abbi), and Sara; great-grandchildren Brooke, Caleb, Gideon and two coming this fall; her brother Stanley (Lavonne) Harcey of St. Charles, MN, and sister Joyce Narveson, Moberly, MO.

Donna passed quietly into the Savior’s arms on October 29, 2021. Donna was preceded in death by her parents and eight of her ten siblings.

Her family will gather with friends on Friday, November 5, from 12 noon -2 p.m. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 2 p.m., both at Whitewater Community Church, 703 E. Central, Whitewater. Interment in Whitewater Cemetery, Whitewater, KS. As a farm girl, she learned early how to lovingly invest in her family. She was a good student and always valued her education. Reading became her life-long passion, especially in later years, when chores no longer consumed her days.She accepted Christ as her Savior as a child through the Rural Bible Crusade missionary. As she helped with VBS by leading music, she made a personal commitment to Christ, and began serving Him by teaching Sunday school and children’s clubs soon after. Donna graduated from St. Charles High School in 1951. Donna attended Midwest Bible and Missionary Institute for the purposes of preparing for the mission field. There she met Richard Wright, her husband, who was also preparing for Christian service. Richard and Donna married July 17, 1954, in an outdoor wedding in St. Charles, MN and returned to resume their college education. Though Richard and Donna farmed in early married life, Richard was soon called to the pastorate. In their 67 years of marriage, they served in five different churches in various denominations, always ready to teach the scriptures. Donna is remembered by her children as the children’s church teacher, carefully walking through the Old and New Testaments with her flannelgraph stories. In addition, the pastor’s wife was found leading Christmas programs, providing special music, preparing newsletters, and doing office work. Richard, her husband, credits his success to her partnering with him in service. When asked what career Donna had, the answers are varied. She has been a pastor’s wife, accountant, store owner, cook, school teacher/daycare director, and always a faithful housewife and patient mother. Her nurturing spirit drew all who knew her to love her. She frequently inquired about the concerns and activities of her friends and family and maintained an active relationship with them. Donna was a lovely soprano, but enjoyed trios over the years. When the family prepared to travel and sing as a support to Dad’s ministry, Donna taught separate parts to the children, so that duets, trios, quartets and fam­ily numbers all had their harmonies in concert. On her last birthday, the entertainment was the family singing Mom’s favorite hymns and songs in close harmony.Christian education was important to Donna. She completed her bachelor’s degree from Liberty University in 1994, fulfilling her life-long dream and enabling her to teach in St. Charles Christian School. Each of her children also attended Christian high school and Christian college, with a design toward being ready to serve the Savior. Those investments and many prac­tical conversations about living for Jesus gave a Biblical worldview to her children, which has since passed on to her grandchildren. All five children have been involved in Christian ministry full-time, either in missions or Christian education. Her grandchildren continue the legacy of being involved in education and/or church ministry. &nbsp;John F. Ray, 77, a longtime resident of Abilene, passed away October 29, 2021 in Overland Park, Kansas. John was born on January 5, 1944 to Loris and Vola (Smith) Ray in Concordia, KS.

He graduated from Concordia High School and served in the U.S. Army as a helicopter crew chief from 1964 to 1967. Following his service, John earned a B.S. in business administration from Emporia State University. While at Emporia John met his future wife, Mary Sanderson, and they married on August 29, 1970.

John moved to Abilene in 1972 and began his career in civilian service for the Army Department of Defense at Fort Riley, KS. He spent the next 34 years at Fort Riley and consistently played a key role in the overall success of the human resource programs for the Army’s southwest region. After a long and decorated career, John retired in 2006 as the chief of the Customer Focused Division. During retirement John served on the Abilene City Commission for several years and also became mayor of the city.

John is survived by his wife Mary of Lenexa, KS; daughter Julia and Craig Schemper and grandchildren Isabelle, Deacon, Drew, Iris, and Inez all of Prairie View, KS; daughter Angela Ray and Ron Sipple of Olathe, KS; granddaughter Brittany (Ray) Ogden and great-grandson Brodie of Abilene, KS; sisters Doma Revell and Jolene Miller; brother Bob Ray; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. 

He is predeceased by his parents Loris and Vola Ray, and brother Ben Ray.

John was very patriotic and proud of serving his country. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed supporting all of the local teams. He spent many years coaching softball, refereeing youth football and umpiring tee ball. He loved the Abilene community and was involved in Optimists for many years. He also enjoyed discussing current events with friends over a good cup of coffee.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 6 at 11 a.m. at Martin-Becker-Carlson funeral home, 414 NW Third Street, Abilene, KS. Following the service, John’s family welcomes all to join them for a gathering and light lunch at the Abilene Community Center, 1020 NW 8th Street.

Ray, 77, a longtime resident of Abilene, passed away October 29, 2021 in Overland Park, Kansas. John was born on January 5, 1944 to Loris and Vola (Smith) Ray in Concordia, KS. He graduated from Concordia High School and served in the U.S. Army as a helicopter crew chief from 1964 to 1967. Following his service, John earned a B.S. in business administration from Emporia State University. While at Emporia John met his future wife, Mary Sanderson, and they married on August 29, 1970.John moved to Abilene in 1972 and began his career in civilian service for the Army Department of Defense at Fort Riley, KS. He spent the next 34 years at Fort Riley and consistently played a key role in the overall success of the human resource programs for the Army’s southwest region. After a long and decorated career, John retired in 2006 as the chief of the Customer Focused Division. During retirement John served on the Abilene City Commission for several years and also became mayor of the city.John is survived by his wife Mary of Lenexa, KS; daughter Julia and Craig Schemper and grandchildren Isabelle, Deacon, Drew, Iris, and Inez all of Prairie View, KS; daughter Angela Ray and Ron Sipple of Olathe, KS; granddaughter Brittany (Ray) Ogden and great-grandson Brodie of Abilene, KS; sisters Doma Revell and Jolene Miller; brother Bob Ray; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. He is predeceased by his parents Loris and Vola Ray, and brother Ben Ray.John was very patriotic and proud of serving his country. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed supporting all of the local teams. He spent many years coaching softball, refereeing youth football and umpiring tee ball. He loved the Abilene community and was involved in Optimists for many years. He also enjoyed discussing current events with friends over a good cup of coffee.A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 6 at 11 a.m. at Martin-Becker-Carlson funeral home, 414 NW Third Street, Abilene, KS. Douglas Gene Schlesener came into this world on October 8, 1965 to Gene and Evelyn Schlesener of Hope, Kansas. Doug became a proud big brother to younger brother Bradley in 1972 and little sister Kimmy in 1977, both of whom he helped raise following the sudden death of his beloved mother Evelyn in 1978. Another little brother, Justin, was added to Doug’s family by 1980. 

Doug attended Hope Schools where he participated in various school activities and particularly enjoyed his time playing baseball, football and running track. Doug’s out of school activities always consisted of farming for not only his dad but also working for various farmers around the Hope community while also maintaining a very active and infamous social life.

On August 22, 1987, Doug married Shelley Grace Allen. They were blessed with a daughter, Cassandra Grace, in 1990 and a son, Cody Allen, in 1996. Doug’s children were the center and soul of his world, gifts he always believed were given to him by his guardian angel, his mother Evelyn. Raising his children, Doug could be seen at any given time either playing with them or watching them from the stands or sidelines as they participated in their activities. Whether it was playing catch with a softball or a football, Doug beamed with such love, respect and total awe of their very individual and special abilities. This very same love and respect only multiplied as he watched his children grow into adults and start their respective families and careers.

Doug and Shelley worked alongside her parents, Gene and Lana Allen, on the Allen Cedar Hill Dairy in White City from 1989 until 1995. Doug learned the gentle art of dairying, the true value of home-raised stock cows and the tilling and harvesting of the land to provide for the animals and his young family. The very life lessons and knowledge he learned from those years made such a profound impact on Doug that he would carry them with him and use throughout the rest of his life. Doug always felt that having that warm love, trust and stability given to him so openly was what helped him through his battle with cancer in 1993.&nbsp; &nbsp;

In 1995, Doug added another family to his life when he began his 26-year career as both a trainman and yardmaster for the Union Pacific Railroad in Salina, Kansas.&nbsp; He was a member of SMART TD Union #495, working alongside his railroad brothers and sisters with honor and commitment to help move the world on the rail. No matter what the railroad craft or position was, he considered them all his brothers and sisters. Doug began and finished his entire railroad career in Salina, Kansas, passing away while on duty.

Doug was a very active member in his community. His community consisted of people who needed his help. It had no walls or boundaries. Family, friends, neighbors, co-workers or strangers, near or far, they were all Doug’s community. His commitment to helping others was endless and he willingly filled his spare time helping those who needed him. No job too small, no job too big, he was always up to the challenge. Wanting to make sure it was a job well done, the hardest thing Doug Schlesener faced was moving on to the next job and fearing he would disappoint those he had to leave behind.

Doug’s love for life will continue to shine through his love for his children and his wife. As a proud cancer survivor, Doug chose to live life to the absolute fullest. No one was a stranger and he craved learning and trying new things. Family, friends and community will remember him for his ability to talk, charming smile and lightning quick wit. That notorious wit, his amazing ability to tell a story and his endless list of suggestions on how a situation could be handled is what will be missed by those that knew him well.

On October 26, 2021 Doug passed from this world to be with his beloved mother, Evelyn, and little brother, Timothy. 

Doug is survived by his wife of 34 years, Shelley; his daughter and family, Cassie, Ed and Clara Grace Kohman of Gypsum; and his son and wife, Cody and Rachel Schlesener of Abilene. Other survivors include his father, Gene and wife Patty Schlesener of Carlton; younger brother, Bradley and Christina Schlesener of Junction City; little sister, Kimberly and Justin Richardson of Chapman; his little brother, Justin of Herington; nieces and nephew, Robin, Heidi, Evelyn, Mara and Dawson; along with numerous other family members, family in-laws, friends and his community.

A celebration of life for Doug will be held, Sunday, November 7, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Sand Springs Venue, 2256 Deer Rd, Abilene, Kansas.

Harvey Hagen, age 79, passed away at his home in Gypsum on Monday, November 1, 2021. He was a life long resident of Saline County.

Harvey grew up in Salina and graduated from Salina High School.&nbsp; He then enlisted and served in the navy during the Vietnam conflict. He worked for Graves Truck Line for many years and later Johns Manville, retiring in 2008.&nbsp; Harvey was a sports fan enjoying all sports from golf to NASCAR but football was his favorite.&nbsp; He was also an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife Judy (Smith) Hagen of 56 years, four daughters, Amy Evans (Eric), Hutchinson, Kansas, Susan Drummond (John), Andover, Kansas, Jennifer Doughman (Chad), Boone, Iowa and Niccole Deegan, Lincoln, Nebraska. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Sunday, November 7, 2021 at 1:00 p.m., at the Gypsum Valley Cemetery, 9053 East Hobbs Creek Road, Gypsum, Kansas.&nbsp; Family and friends are invited to the home following the service.

Leona Fai (Ball) Beal, 60, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 in Salina, KS.

Leona was born on January 22, 1961 in Belleville, KS to Leo and Faith Ball.&nbsp; 

She married Frederick Beal on June 9, 1979 and they settled in Salina, KS.&nbsp; In 42 years of wonderful marriage they had four children, Fai Beal, Fiebe Beal, Fiona Beal, and Frederick Beal and one beautiful grandchild, Aelin Beal.

She graduated from Marymount College with a bachelor's in elementary education and started her career as a substitute teacher so she could stay home and raise her children.&nbsp; She went on to teach full-time at Franklin, then Oakdale Elementary schools in USD 305, for over 23 years.&nbsp; She was a member of the Who's Who Among Educators, and was a 2020 Teacher of the Year nominee.

Leona was survived by her husband Frederick Beal (Salina); children Fai Beal (Kansas City), Fiebe Beal (Salina), Fiona Beal (Salina), and Frederick Beal and wife Emma (Salina); grandchild Aelin Beal (Salina); brothers Leon Ball and wife Beth (Belleville), and Leonard Ball and wife Ellen (Belleville); and nephews and neices.

She was preceded in death by parents Leo and Faith Ball (Belleville); grandparents Lyall and Blanche Brasier (Belleville) and Cleo and Blanche Ball (Belleville).

Leona was a faithful member and volunteer of her church Heartland Worship Center for 42 years, where she taught Sunday school, children's church, and girls' Missionettes.&nbsp; She was a drummer on the worship team and was the first to volunteer wherever needed.&nbsp; She loved God with all her heart and it showed to everyone around her.

She was a tough farm girl, who knew the value of a good work ethic.&nbsp; She poured her heart and soul into everything she did and her motto was "do everything in excellence" (Colossians 3:23).&nbsp; She was a mother and nurturer to everyone around her and spoke life into many generations of children.&nbsp; She loved animals, puzzles, arts and crafts, reading, cooking, and gardening.

Public viewing will be Friday, November 5 from 5-8 p.m. at Ryan Mortuary.&nbsp; Funeral services for all family and friends will be held Saturday, November 6 at 10 a.m. at Heartland Worship Center in Salina, KS.&nbsp; She will be laid to rest at the Chester Cemetery in Chester, NE following the service.

Patricia A. Perry, 77, died November 1, 2021. She was born Sept. 2, 1944, in Hays, KS, the youngest of thirteen children born to George J. and Katherine (Breit) Schmidt.&nbsp; She worked in the dietary dept. of the former St. John’s Hospital and volunteered at the senior center and in activities in several retirement centers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, six sisters and five brothers, and her husband Johnnie, in 2007.

She is survived by a brother, LeRoy Schmidt, Salina and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 5, 2021 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cathedral, Salina. Burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Salina. Vigil services will be held Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Ryan Mortuary where the family will receive friends.

Harold was a long time resident of Monterey, CA where he attended school and worked as a truck driver in the moving and storing industry.&nbsp; It was there that he met his wife, Cheryl, and they wed on May 5, 1978.&nbsp; They lived in Seaside, CA with their two children, Matt and Laura, before moving to Kansas in 1992.

He loved bowling, riding his motorcycle, watching Clint Eastwood movies and played in the local billiards league with his family.&nbsp; They made many trips to the beach and lake where he enjoyed jet skiing and boating.&nbsp; He was always up for anything and lived in the moment.&nbsp; Some of his best stories were from traveling coast to coast in his truck.

He was preceded in death by his mother Mildred (Knowles) Wilson; father Paul Kincaid; brothers Gary “Bill” Fowler and Steve Kincaid.

He is survived by his wife Cheryl (Beach) Kincaid of Salina; son, Matthew (Rebecca) Kincaid of Wichita; daughter Laura (Jeff) Dreher of Parker, CO; grandchildren Jackson, Jeffrey Jr., Avery, Harrison, and Hudson; sister Cheryl (Wayne) Durnan of AZ; and multiple nieces and nephews.

George Grabon, 80, of Salina, passed away Friday, October 29, 2021.&nbsp;

George was born the&nbsp;only child to William and Jeanette (Aronowicz) Grabon on June 10, 1941, in New York City, New York.&nbsp;

George attended and graduated from New York University with a bachelor’s degree.

George enlisted in the Navy on August 12, 1964. His enlistment time took him to places he never would have imagined. He was sent to Vietnam, where he earned the Navy Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign medal with Device, and the Vietnam Service medal with two (2) stars. George was always proud to have served this country and we should all be thankful he did.&nbsp;

During George’s term in the Navy, George met his future wife, Myra Duthie, while stationed in Scotland. George eventually married Myra on June 26, 1971, in Dundee, Scotland.

Following the service, George found employment as a business consultant, before a transition to working for Jamaica Water Supply, and finally working in management for the New York City Department of Environmental Protection.

In his spare time, George enjoyed reading history, historical fiction and fantasy books, as well as collecting stamps, and building Lego sets.&nbsp;

George was preceded in death by his parents William and Jeannette (Aronowicz) Grabon.

George is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Myra Grabon, a fine son, Andrew and his wife Susan Grabon of Beloit, and one grandson, Evan Grabon.

George will receive military honors graveside at 1:30 p.m. Monday, November 15, 2021, at the veteran’s cemetery at Fort Riley, 5181 Wildcat Creek Rd., Manhattan, KS.&nbsp;

Dean grew up at Indian Lookout near Delphos and graduated from Minneapolis High School in 1969. He then attended Beloit NCK where he received a welding degree. Dean married Bette Ann Shafer on May 21, 1971. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved adventures with his family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Darrel.

Survivors are his wife of 50 years, Bette Ann; mother Tresa Steinbrock; daughter Brigitte Nelson and her husband, J.C.; three grandchildren, John Dean, Shafer, and Zachary Nelson; brother Hank Steinbrock and his wife, Diane; sister Val Murk and her husband, Ron; nephews Russ, Justin, and Dustin; and nieces Mick and April.

Alex Francis Riedel Jr., age 87, of Ellis, Kansas, passed away Friday, October 29, 2021, at the Trego Lemke Memorial Hospital in WaKeeney, Kansas. Alex was born June 24, 1934, in Ellis to Alex F. and Anna (Glassman) Riedel.&nbsp; Alex graduated from Ellis High School and then served in the US Army. He worked for Midwest Energy for over 35 years and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ellis. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and refurbishing antique furniture. Alex was also a dedicated blood donor for many years. He is survived by two brothers, Paul Riedel and wife Mary of Minneapolis, Kansas and Joe Riedel and wife Kathy of Garden Plain, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, Alvin, Fr. Richard, Tony, Ted, Alfred, Elmer and Eugene as well as a sister, Mary Ann Blue. Lois Fay (Andrew) Tinkler-Larson, 97, of Lindsborg, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, October 31, 2021 at Bethany Home.  She was born August 20, 1924 in Gypsum, KS to the late Asa and Grace (Swisher) Andrew.  

Lois graduated from Gypsum High School in the class of 1942. 

 She married Merlin Tinkler.  After his passing in 1969, Lois would go on to marry Paul Larson, who passed away in 1995.  

Lois was a cook at various places around the Lindsborg area.  She was also a telephone operator, a farmer’s wife, and an Avon representative.  Lois was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lindsborg, where she was a deacon and active in numerous committees and boards.  

Survivors include her  daughters Bonnie Lindsay (Gary) of Protection, KS,  and Lois Bishop of Rockwall, TX; son Rick Larson (Judy) of Wichita, KS;  son-in-law Ralph Nelson of Salina, KS; as well as 11 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, and many extended family members.

Lois is preceded in death by her parents; husbands; daughter Linda Nelson; brother Lloyd Andrew; and son-in-law Bob Bishop.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 3 from 5-7 p.m. at Crick-Christians Funeral Home, 103 N. Washington, Lindsborg, KS.

AnnaBelle Grubbs was born on July 9, 1929 to Vera (Mendenhall) and Jacob McDonnel in Hemet, CA and went to be with her Lord on October 30, 2021. At the age of two she moved with her family to Burr Oak, KS where she graduated from high school in 1946 and then graduated from Stewards Beauty Academy in Salina in 1947. She then worked at a beauty shop in Beloit for 4 years.

She married Homer L. Grubbs in 1952 and they made their home on the farm west of Burr Oak. AnnaBelle owned and operated Grubbs’ Beauty Shop in Burr Oak for 50 years, retiring in 2003. She was a member of the Burr Oak United Methodist Church where she taught children’s Sunday school for several years and helped to organize many of the social events and dinners throughout the years.

AnnaBelle enjoyed life on the farm where horses and many other animals were a big part of their lives. She loved to garden which was always evident in the many plants and flowers she kept throughout her home, yard and the beauty shop. She especially loved spending time with her many nieces and nephews, taking them swimming, skating, and on numerous trips to parks and museums. Each of them have so many great memories of the fun times spent with Aunt AnnaBelle. In 2007, she and Homer said goodbye to their home on the farm and moved to an apartment in Mankato where she loved being a part of their new community, continuing a long time tradition of baking cinnamon rolls and other goodies for neighbors and friends.

AnnaBelle said she lived by the motto, God will take care of me. She felt closest to God when she was outside amidst all of His creation. She said she saw God in the animals, the flowers, her neighbors and friends. She was always doing for others and thinking of ways to brighten someone’s day. AnnaBelle will truly be missed by so many.

AnnaBelle was preceded in death by her husband Homer, her parents, her sister Beth Jeffery and her brother-in-law Lyle Jeffery, all of Burr Oak.
