Terry Boltze passed away quietly while holding her sister’s hand on Easter Sunday morning. She was 68 years old.

Terry Sue (Newman) Boltze was a Mother’s Day gift, being born on May 10, 1953 in Topeka, Kansas to Donald L. and Bessie D. Newman. 

She grew up in Topeka, graduating from Highland Park High School in 1971. After graduation, she worked as a service station attendant and bookkeeper for Quality Oil on South Highway 75. 

She met and married Dennis Boltze on September 16, 1972 and gave birth to a son, Jason Allen Boltze on November 24, 1974. She got divorced in 1976. Terry left Topeka and moved to Somerset, Kentucky in 1978, later moving to Panama City Beach, Florida.

In 1990, she moved to Columbus, Georgia and began working for Walmart as an overnight stocker. She worked her way through several positions, culminating with the garden center supervisor. In 2001 she found her way back home to Kansas, and didn’t even need ruby red slippers; only the love of her mother and sister! She went to work at the Walmart Super Center, later transferring to the North Topeka store when it opened. When the Neighborhood Walmart opened in Highland Park, she transferred to that store, where she retired in 2018. 

Terry loved cooking, flower gardening, watching NASCAR races and spending time with her family, friends and her cats.

Terry is survived by her son Jason (Johanna) Boltze of Florida, her sister Vicki (Dan) Key of Kansas, a nephew and four grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, David Newman.

Terry will be cremated and a memorial Sservice will be held in early June.&nbsp;&nbsp;

James Raphael Opat, 81, of Salina, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly on April 18th, 2022. James (Jim) Opat, the son of Martin and Freida Mary (Newman) Opat, was born on January 4th, 1941, at Lindsborg, Kansas. 

The Opat family immigrated from Poland and Jim was the second youngest of nine sons: Andrew, Joseph, Leo, Edward, Adam, Thomas, John, and Martin, Jr. 

Always an achiever, Jim submitted an artistic creation and received a generous scholarship to attend Bethany College, where he ultimately obtained a bachelor of science degree. After teaching sixth grade for four years at Heusner Elementary in Salina, he became a principal at the Little River/Windham School District. A lifelong learner, Jim then acquired his master’s degree from Emporia State University. Continuing his dedication to teachers and children, Jim became the principal for several schools within the Chapman School District for 29 years, and was elated when his daughter-in-law, Annie Opat, became the Title 1 Reading teacher at Chapman Elementary.

After retirement, Jim and Claudia owned a driver’s education school for six years, a daring adventure, but he still wanted to help young people learn life skills.

Married to the love of his life, Claudia (Wilson) Opat, June27, 1964, together they raised three successful children: John J. Opat (Annie) of Junction City, Kansas, Alan M. Opat (Julie) of Minneapolis, Kansas, and Lori Briden (John) of Cave Springs, Arkansas. Grandchildren include Ryan Opat (Kelsey) of Chapman, Kansas, and Andrea Steuber (Kyle) of Belton, Missouri. Jim also loved his great grandchildren Adelyne and Rosilyn Opat. 

Family always came first. Jim loved spending time with family beyond measure and was extremely proud of those he loved. Jim was a believer in education and the learning process. He always had high expectations and enjoyed helping others achieve success. A strong believer in God, a long-distance runner, a love of nature, animals and people describe Jim’s daily life.

During his retirement years he spent quality time with his son John and daught-in-law, Annie, rehabbing houses. He enjoyed fishing, boating, and attending neighborhood potluck dinners with his daughter Lori and son-in-law, John, at Table Rock Lake. Watching his son Alan and daughter-in-law, Julie build their house and tinker around with vehicles and tractors also gave Jim happiness. He made friends instantaneously with his dynamic, genuine personality; no one was a stranger. Jim will be truly missed by so many.

Services include - Visitation from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cathedral in Salina, Kansas with a rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. Jim Opat’s funeral mass will be held Friday morning, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cathedral at 10:00 a.m., with a luncheon following, at the church. His burial is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Salina, Kansas.

Sharron Kay Thompson, 80, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, April 19, 2022. She was born August 26, 1941, in Beloit to Garold A. and Evlynn J. (Horesky) Sanborn.

Sharron and Myron Arthur Thompson were united in marriage on October 21, 1962, in Hill City. 

Sharron was a daycare operator and was a strong advocate for children with disabilities and she hosted a support group for many years. 

Sharron loved with all of her heart. She had a way of being empathetic to all of your worries and concerns. She could insert herself into your world and either offer advice or simply listen. All who came into contact with her could look into her eyes and see just how much she cared about you. Sharron would celebrate or cry with you, whichever was appropriate. All her life she had a heartfelt desire to “help” - no matter what it was

So, if you were a sister, child, grandchild, niece, nephew, or a cousin, and last but not least, even a friend - for all who came in contact with her or had the privilege of sharing time with her – we are all better for it.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her husband, Art, on November 6, 2016, and sisters Mary Lou Stegman and Barbara Sandell.

Sharron is survived by her sons Kevin Thompson and his wife Traci, and Kelly Thompson; sisters Saundra Anderson and Nancy Moden; and grandchildren Brik, Cooper, Cherish, and Caitlyn Thompson.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 25 at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis. Burial will be in the Delphos Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 4-6.

Verna Rae Makalous Stewart passed away peacefully on April 15, 2022, with her family by her side.&nbsp; Vernie was born June 1, 1951, in Belleville, Kansas, to Lawrence and Helen (Beneda) Makalous.&nbsp; Her childhood was a happy one on the family farm northwest of Cuba, Kansas, where she spent countless hours playing with her dog, Skippy, a new batch of kittens, and other farm animals.&nbsp; She enjoyed playing the piano and her alto saxophone, singing, and riding for miles on her bike with her friend Connie Lahodny.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Vernie attended rural Tabor School #33 for four years, then transferred to Cuba Grade School.&nbsp; She graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1969.&nbsp; Vernie graduated from cosmetology school in Salina and worked in Concordia and Beloit.&nbsp; It was here she met her future husband, Jim Stewart.&nbsp; They were married November 24, 1973, in the Beloit Presbyterian Church.&nbsp; To this union two sons were born:&nbsp; Joseph James, and Samuel Vernon.

Vernie and Jim lived and worked on Jim's family farm for many years.&nbsp; The family enjoyed their annual vacations to many parts of the country.

Vernie later moved to Belleville, earned her CNA certificate, and worked at the Long-Term Care for sixteen years.&nbsp; She was a loyal member of the Cuba Presbyterian Church.&nbsp; Vernie helped care for her mother until her passing in 2013.

Upon retirement, Vernie continued her passion for reading and often visited the library.&nbsp; She worked word puzzles, doted on her feline companions, visited with friends, and spent time with her family.

She is survived by her sons Joseph (Corey) Stewart, O'Fallon, MO, Samuel (Carin) Stewart, Newton, KS, sister Verlene (Joyce) Jackson, Chapman, KS, two grandchildren Travis Sanders, Newton, Ks., and Megan (Jamin) Haddin, Newton, Ks., four great-grandchildren Ryker Sanders, Ky'Marie Sanders, Liam Hadden, and Lexa Hadden.&nbsp; 

Vernie was preceded in death by her parents Lawrence and Helen Makalous, brother Eldon Gene, and brother-in-law Roger Freed.

Memorial services will be held 1:30 p.m., Saturday, April 23, 2022 at the Cuba Presbyterian Church, with her Pastor Phil Goombi officiating.&nbsp; Private inurnment will be at the National Bohemian&nbsp;Cemetery (Kopsa's), rural Cuba, KS at a later time.

Genevieve Virginia Adeline died April 11th, 2022 at Northshore Health and Rehab Center, of Loveland, Colorado.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Genevieve was born on June 15th, 1926 to Joseph and Antoinette (Bombardier) Frigon in rural Clay County, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;She was the fourth child of six:&nbsp;&nbsp;Armond, Bernard, Ernest, Joan, and Leo Roy.&nbsp;

For the majority of her life, she made her home in the Oak Hill community of Clay County with her husband, Leonard Wayne McIntosh, whom she married on June 25th&nbsp;of 1945, where they farmed in both Ottawa and Clay Counties.

Together they had four children, Patricia Joan McIntosh Ploegsma, (Colorado Springs, CO),&nbsp;&nbsp;Sherlyn Kaye McIntosh Sampson, (Loveland, CO), David Wayne McIntosh, (Colorado Springs, CO), and Daniel Len McIntosh, (Oak Hill, KS).&nbsp;&nbsp;She lived out the last years of her life in Colorado.

&nbsp;Genevieve graduated from Clay Center Community High School in the class of 1944.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was extremely active in the Oak Hill community and in the Oak Hill Presbyterian Church.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was a leader of the Sturdy Oak 4H club, a long standing member of the Rebekah Lodge, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Oak Hill Home Demonstration Unit.

She was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, a church elder, 4-H club leader, square dance instructor, farm wife, dairy maid, seamstress, fabric consultant, baker, and a farm product entrepreneur selling watermelons, sweet corn, chicken fryers, milk and cream. In later years she and Leonard were drivers/deliverers for El Dorado Bus Corp of Minneapolis, KS.&nbsp;

Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Leonard, three brothers and one sister, and her son, Daniel Len McIntosh and his stepson Tyler Jordan Pendergast.

&nbsp;She is survived by her brother Bernie of Arizona who is 100, three children and their spouses, nine grandchildren, and their spouses, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday, April 24, 2022, at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home

David was born on June 5, 1943, in Wichita, KS to his parents Richard and Ernestine (Kuhns) Smith. 

He graduated from Goddard High School in 1961 and went on to attend both Friends University and Kansas State University, eventually becoming the first class from Kansas State University to earn a degree in restaurant and institutional management. 

David was united in marriage to Effie Breeden on December 30, 1967, in Studley, KS. 

David managed the food service for hospitals in several states including Illinois, Iowa, and Colorado. Along the way, his career also included farming, truck driving, and even owning his own restaurant, “Dave’s Restaurant,”in Larned, KS.

When David wasn’t hard at work, he enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and singing. He was part of a barbershop quartet and sang with other students form Friends University while he was in college. David was also a strong member of the Strassburg Baptist Church family.

David is survived by his wife Effie Smith of Marion, KS, children Richard (Echo) Smith, Marion, KS, Kristen (Ron) Jackson, St. George, KS, and Amber (Aaron) Johnson, Dodge City, KS, grandchildren Brandon Smith, Charlotte Smith, Jeremy Smith, David Smith, Jacob Smith, De Smith, DJ Smith, Gabriel Johnson, Drew Johnson, and Luke Johnson, great-grandchild Mason Stith, brother Ronald (Betty) Smith, Monetta, VA, sister Diane Cummings, Oklahoma City, OK, and many nieces and nephews.

Sandra’s life began on January 17, 1942, in Wichita. She was the daughter of John and Henrietta (Pribbenow) Lockwood. 

Sandra was united in marriage to Floyd Rutschman on August 10, 1963, at the Federated Church in Whitewater. 

She earned her nursing degree as a registered nurse from Southwestern College in Winfield. Sandra worked as a registered nurse at many facilities over the years, retiring from St. Francis Hospital in Wichita in the early 2000's.&nbsp; 

She was a devoted animal lover and faithful member of the Federated Church. Sandra enjoyed poetry and creative writing as a young person and wrote many of her own poems.&nbsp; Sandra and Floyd enjoyed bowling as a young couple, later adopting camping as their favorite activity after their sons came along.&nbsp; Sandra also loved music, and sang for many years in the Valley Center Sweet Adelines.&nbsp; She spent many years volunteering in many capacities for local organizations and was a longtime member of the American Legion Auxillary.&nbsp;

 Sandra is survived by her two sons Kevin Rutschman and Kyle (Elizabeth) Rutschman, both of Whitewater; granddaughters Eva and Joy; her brother Stephen (Diane) Lockwood of Benton and several nieces and nephews. 

She passed away on Friday April 15, 2022, at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital. 

Sandra is preceded in death by her parents, husband Floyd, sister Danna Fulkerson and brother David Lockwood. 

Her family will gather and greet friends to celebrate her life with a visitation on April 30th between 2:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. at the Whitewater American Legion. There will be a graveside service for close friends and family at Green Valley Cemetery, Furley, prior to the Celebration of Life.&nbsp; Lamb Funeral Home is serving the family. 

Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to Whitewater Community Cats in care of the funeral home.

Patrick Michael Graves, 68, of Salina, passed away April 15, 2022 at Salina Regional Hospital. He was born March 28, 1954 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Herbert and Pauline (Rohacek) Graves. He grew up in the Abilene area and attended the local school districts. 

In 1986 Pat started working for Frisbie Construction as a millwright laborer and later became the safety supervisor. He was recognized for his 36 years of loyal and distinguished service in 2022. He was a lifetime member of the NRA. 

Pat is survived by his son Eric Graves of Salina and two grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Easton Graves; two brothers, Dave Graves and wife Joyce and John Graves and wife Chris; stepdaughter Kristen Graves; stepgrandson Brandon Graves and numerous nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Pauline Graves, Jeanie Graves and one nephew, Daniel Graves. 

A memorial service will be 10:00 a.m.., Saturday, April 23, 2022 at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene. Family will receive friends Friday evening from 5-7 p.m.. at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home.

Together they worked a dairy farm and grew a very large garden. Mary canned foods and enjoyed sewing and making her own clothes.&nbsp; 

She worked in home health as a certified nursing assistant.&nbsp; 

Outside of work and in retirement she enjoyed working in her flower garden, making crafts, attending craft shows and finding treasures at auctions. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and playing card games. She enjoyed her family time.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Floyd Logan; siblings Maxine Williams, Louise Fitts, Jody Kruse, Bill Alexander, Howard Alexander, Vernon Alexander, and Harvey Alexander,&nbsp; Littie Bell Alexander, Marlene Ann Alexander. &nbsp;

Arleta enjoyed baking bread, quilting, and working on puzzles.&nbsp;

 Lloyd preceded her in death on May 6, 2005.&nbsp; Arleta was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.&nbsp; She was also preceded in death by her parents, son Brent Rohe, three brothers, Dale, Norman and Laveryl Dittmer.

Robert (Bob) E. Lewis, age 76, passed away April 16, 2022.&nbsp; He was born October 27, 1945 to Alva and Lela (Denton) Lewis in Leona, KS.&nbsp; 

Bob grew up in the Hiawatha area, and enlisted in the Navy after high school.&nbsp; Bob trained in electrical technology in the Navy and was a Vietnam veteran. After honorable discharge from the Navy, he worked for Xerox for 40 years until he retired in 2011.&nbsp;

 He married the love of his life, Pat (Runnalls) Lewis, September 1st, 1973. Bob and Pat have three children: Sarah (Mike) Boggs, Craig (Carol Brooks) Lewis, and Katie (Rory) Tonniges, two grandsons Tyler and Brennan Boggs, and their beloved Jack Russell, Piper.

Bob loved driving and visiting family in Arizona, classic rock music, NASCAR, Royals baseball, and anything K-State sports.&nbsp; He also loved all types of cars especially exotic, sport, and classic cars.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marilyn Shields.&nbsp; He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, brother Vernon (Bonnie) Lewis, and his sisters Shirley (Ron) Atteberry and Luella (Don) Scott.&nbsp;

Graveside funeral services will be held on April 22 at 11:00 a.m. at the Athelstane Cemetery in Clay County, Kansas. &nbsp;

Lewis, age 76, passed away April 16, 2022.&nbsp; He was born October 27, 1945 to Alva and Lela (Denton) Lewis in Leona, KS.&nbsp; Bob grew up in the Hiawatha area, and enlisted in the Navy after high school.&nbsp; Bob trained in electrical technology in the Navy and was a Vietnam veteran. After honorable discharge from the Navy, he worked for Xerox for 40 years until he retired in 2011.&nbsp; He married the love of his life, Pat (Runnalls) Lewis, September 1st, 1973. Bob and Pat have three children: Sarah (Mike) Boggs, Craig (Carol Brooks) Lewis, and Katie (Rory) Tonniges, two grandsons Tyler and Brennan Boggs, and their beloved Jack Russell, Piper.Bob loved driving and visiting family in Arizona, classic rock music, NASCAR, Royals baseball, and anything K-State sports.&nbsp; He also loved all types of cars especially exotic, sport, and classic cars.Bob was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marilyn Shields.&nbsp; He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, brother Vernon (Bonnie) Lewis, and his sisters Shirley (Ron) Atteberry and Luella (Don) Scott.&nbsp;Graveside funeral services will be held on April 22 at 11:00 a.m. at the Athelstane Cemetery in Clay County, Kansas. &nbsp;Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer’s Foundation and can be sent in care of Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home, Clay Center, Kansas.

Patricia Ann Webb (Bradshaw)&nbsp;of Tescott, KS passed away April 14, 2022, her wedding anniversary to her husband of 64 years, Norman Webb.&nbsp; Together they had five children, David Webb, Charlotte Hickles, Mark Webb, Gregg Webb and wife Kelli, John Webb and wife Kelli, 15 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Patricia was born in 1940 to Ernest Bradshaw and Cleta Bradshaw (Havely) in Walnut, KS. She was the second oldest of 14 siblings.&nbsp; Eventually the Bradshaw family moved to Beverly, KS where she met Norm. They finally situated on a small farm South of Tescott, KS and there she stayed with her family. 

Patricia (Pat) was a stay-at-home mom, a waitress at the Brookville Hotel, and a manager at Nickerson Farms.

After retirement, she loved to travel with her mother Cleta, her sister Mary, and her daughter Charlotte. Dementia eventually ended her journeys. 

The family is especially grateful to the staff at Minneapolis Hospital, Long Term Care wing, who cared for her in her final years. They were her family. Thank you. To a loving wife, mother and woman who made everyone feel better, Patricia you will be missed. Godspeed. &nbsp;

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, April 21, at Ryan Mortuary. Rosary service will begin at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday April 22, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Franklin Cemetery, Tescott, KS.

Geneva Gale Olson-Burton, 96, died April 12, 2022, in Salina, Kansas. She was born in Ellsworth, Kansas, 10 miles south on a farm, to Dick and Ella (Hoffman) Rathbun, on November 26, 1925.

She went to school in a one-room schoolhouse, which was across the road from her house. She graduated from Lorraine High School in 1943 from there she moved to Salina.

She worked at the Lamer Hotel for three years then moved back to the farm in Ellsworth. In 1951, she moved to Lyons, Kansas with her parents. She worked in a little café for three years where she met and married Raymond D. Olson of Chase, Kansas, on June 3, 1955.

They had three children: Ron, Kathy, and Rick. The couple moved to Salina, Kansas in May, 1966 where Gale ran a day care in her home for 25 years. She retired in 1991. She was also a member of a Birthday Club from 1984-2009. 

July 12, 1991, Gale married Thomas D. Burton in Salina.

She is preceded in death by her two husbands, Raymond Olson and Thomas D. Burton (2008); parents; brothers and their spouses, Delbert “Deb” Rathbun (Hazel), Merle “Shorty” Rathbun (Wilma), Donald “Doc” Rathbun (Madge), and Clyde “Hap” Rathbun (Loneva); one bonus stepdaughter, Betty Taylor; two sisters, Ethyl Rathbun Rizor “Sis” (Glenn), and Maxine “Mic” Rathbun Clifton (A.D);&nbsp; brother-in-law David Thornton; daughter-in-law Connie Olson; and a special friend, since high school, Billie Langley.

Gale is survived by one sister, Mary Jane “Janie” Thornton, Las Vegas, Nevada, &nbsp;three children, Kathy Olson, Salina, Ron Olson, Salina, and Rick Olson, Salina, five bonus children from her second marriage, Faye Smith, Bill Burton, Cindy Johnson, and Janice Davenport, grandchildren Jake Olson, Katie Olson, Amy Olson, Shaelynn Ballard (Blake), Claire Olson, and Grace Hoge, great-grandchildren Greyson Bell, Easton Bell, Kinzley Ballard, Stella Ballard, Britton Ballard, Bennet Ballard, and Nara Olson.

On&nbsp;Thursday, April 21, 2022, the family will have a visitation tea at the&nbsp;Roselawn Heights Memorial&nbsp;Chapel from&nbsp;2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be Friday,&nbsp;April 22, 2022, at&nbsp;11:00&nbsp;a.m. at the&nbsp;Roselawn Heights Memorial Chapel, 1920 E. Crawford St., Salina, Kansas.&nbsp;

Joan F. Molzahn, the daughter of Ernest Buller and Martha (Wedel) Buller, was born July 9, 1934 in Newton, Kansas and passed away on April 15, 2022 at the Clay County Medical Center, Clay Center, Kansas at the age of 87 years, 9 months, and 6 days.

Joan grew up in Newton, Kansas, graduating from Newton High School.&nbsp; 

In 1953, she was united in marriage to Lloyd R. Gaiser and to this union were born four children:&nbsp; Bradley Dean, Teresa Lynn, Marian Kay, and Jeffrey Scott.

Joan was a homemaker and from 1963 until 1979 served with her husband in the United Methodist Churches of Hope, Tescott/Culver, Logan/Glade and Clyde/Agenda.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She and her husband moved to Belleville in 1979. Joan worked in the Belleville school system until her retirement in 1995. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Belleville, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lloyd, who died of Lou Gehrig’s disease in 1989; her second husband, Robert D. Molzahn in 2021; her parents; and two brothers, Robert Lee Buller and Curtis John Buller.
