Donald Earl Daniels, 77, died at a Salina Regional Health Center on November 25, 2022.

Don was born on June 16, 1945 in Joplin, Missouri to Jeannie Wood. 

He later moved to Savannah, Georgia and then to Tulsa, Oklahoma, He graduated from Will Rogers High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. 

Don drove for many years for United and other companies, landing him in Branson, Missouri for years. 

Don married Linda McLaren and together they had two children, Tami (Daniels) Rice, and Donald L. Daniels. They later divorced and he married Cindy (Abel) Bath, and together they had two children, Christine Ewing and Tina Daniels. They later divorced. 

Don had two sisters, two brothers, and a nephew.

Don was preceded in death by his mother Jeannie Wood and a grandson, Detryck Franklin.

His survivors include his children Tami (Daniels) Rice of Topeka, Kansas, and Donald L. Daniels of Wichita, Kansas, and their mother, Linda McLaren (Henderson) and Christine Ewing of Kansas City and Tina Daniels of Lawrence Kansas and their mother Cindy (Abel) Bath.

There will be no services at this time. Don has been cremated and his cremains will go to his companion Sharon Bath.

Ruth A. McCurry, 65 of Hope, Kansas passed away Sunday, November 27, 2022. She was born October 10, 1957, in Topeka KS to Harold L. and Marina T. McCurry, who precede her in death.

Survivors include her beloved husband; Michael Estes, her daughter Emily Seaton of KC, MO., a brother; Harold “Bud” McCurry of Alma, KS., 2 sisters; Mary Tribble of Lancaster, PA, and Martha (Bill) Routh of Clearwater, and a grandson; Arthur Smith of KC, MO.

Norman Stevenson Bressler, 86, beloved by so many, died peacefully on November 24, 2022, with loving family members by his side.&nbsp;

Steve was born in Salina, Kansas, on March 6, 1936, but spent most of his childhood and all of his teenage years in Wamego, Kansas. Steve graduated from Wamego High School and then attended Kansas State University where he was a proud member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and graduated with a degree in agriculture.&nbsp;

Following college, Steve served in the Army Reserve as an artillery officer and started his career with Staley Milling Company in Kansas City. Relocating to Salina, KS, he began an illustrious career in the grain industry, working for the Evans Grain Company for over thirty years, as general manager, followed by Koch Industries in Wichita, KS, and CEO of United Services Association in Des Moines, IA. After retiring, Steve became a corporate leadership coach, helping develop emerging leaders in the Salina/Solomon area.

Steve is survived by his children: Betsy Horn (David) of Edmond, OK; Phil Bressler (Lailan) of Overland Park, KS;&nbsp;&nbsp;Molly Kerr of Leawood, KS; Amy Belew (Wes) of Sparks, MD; and by his stepchildren: Lynn Sweeney (Stuart) of Linwood, KS; Lori Hinnen (David) of Towanda, KS; and Rex Swartz (Brittney) of Prairie Village, KS. Steve is also survived by grandchildren: Matthew Jorgensen (Meghan), Callie Albert (Michael), Ryan Bressler (Erin), Katie Davis (Andrew), Kai Bressler (Molly), Jacob Sweeney, Maggie Swartz, Anita Cerney (Kendall), Amanda Crouch (Mitchell), Campbell Kerr, Andy Sweeney, Oscar Swartz, A.J. Hinnen (Summer), Annie Kerr, and Libby Sweeney. Also surviving Steve are six great-grandchildren.

Always a planner, Steve entered Heaven in the early evening, just in time to attend a perfectly set Thanksgiving dinner with those who preceded him in death: his beloved wife and love of his life, Nancy; his parents, Norman and Dorothy Bressler; and his brother, Alex Bressler.

Steve cherished spending time with family and friends, and he also enjoyed golfing, traveling, reading, and running or walking outside, which he referred to as his “communion with nature.” Steve was an accomplished athlete and an avid sports fan.&nbsp;

Steve was an innately kind, effortlessly funny, one-of-a-kind man who didn’t know a stranger, and his zest for life was contagious. Steve frequently and jubilantly exclaimed, “You gotta be optimistic,” and he truly lived by those words. One of Steve’s greatest passions was being a father, as he was a loving and consistent inspiration for all of his children throughout his life. Steve was affectionately called “Opa” by his fifteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, but they also knew him as the Treat Guy, Report Card Guy, Monkey Club President, Bresslerthon Director, and Wally the Werewolf. Steve loved children, and kiddos far and wide were treated to his memorable Santa and Farmer Bob performances. Because Steve devoted his life to loving others, he touched many lives. He loved well and was well-loved in return.

There will be a celebration of life at Christ Cathedral in Salina, Kansas, on Saturday, December 10th at 11:00 a.m.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Saint Francis Ministries.

Lester E. Young, the son of Ernest R. and Thelma E. Young, was born July 12, 1939 in Kansas City Missouri and passed away on November 27, 2022 at Bryan Medical Center East, Lincoln, NE at the age of 83 years, 4 months, and 15 days.

Lester grew up in Osawatomie, KS, graduating from Osawatomie High School.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He then attended Southwestern College in Winfield, KS, graduating with a BA degree in business.

Lester served with the U.S .Army from 1958 until 1964.&nbsp;&nbsp; He was stationed in Korea from 1958 until 1960 and attained the rank of Sp-4.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Lester worked at the Osawatomie State Hospital from 1961 until 1966 and later at the Winfield State Hospital from 1966-1971 as an orderly.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He then was the administrator at the Belleview Manor Nursing Home in Belleville, KS from 1971 until 1981.&nbsp;&nbsp; From 1981 until 1992, he was the administrator at the Enterprise Nursing Home in Enterprise, KS.

Lester was a funeral director with Roselawn Mortuary in Salina, Kansas for a time and later worked at Walmart in Salina and Concordia, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp; He returned to Belleville, KS in 2016 to be near family.

He was united in marriage to Linda Carol James and to this union one daughter was born, Sandra Kay.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He later was united in marriage to Annabelle Simon, and children Shellie and Mike joined the family.

&nbsp;Lester was a member of the Kiwanis in Belleville, the Lions Club in Enterprise, KS, the Elks in Belleville and Abilene, KS, and was a member of the&nbsp;Kansas Professional Nursing Home Administrator Association from 1971 until 1992.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Thelma Young; wife Annabelle; and great-grandson Owen James.

Lester is survived by his children Sandra Kay (Chris) DeFazio of Wellsville, KS, Mike (Sandy) Cole of Belleville, KS, and Shellie Williams of Belleville, KS; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; special friend Delores Whiteman of Winfield, KS;&nbsp; brother, Larry O. Young of California, and sister Shirley Whitaker of Stover, MO;&nbsp; other relatives, and friends.

Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Belleville Cemetery, Belleville, KS.

Vernon Roy Funk, 69, passed away on November 24, 2022, at&nbsp;McPherson Hospital in McPherson, Kansas. 

He was born on May 19,&nbsp;1953, in Goessel, Kansas to Ralph J. and Margaret Louise Unruh Funk.

He attended Hillsboro High School and married Rose Ann York from&nbsp;Chapman, Kansas on November 2, 1974, in the Trinity Mennonite Church.

To this union were born three children: Brian Roy, Jennifer Ann, and&nbsp;Kimberly Joy.

Vernon attended Trinity Mennonite Church and grew up on the family farm&nbsp;five miles east of Hillsboro. He spent his childhood doing farm chores and&nbsp;field work and in his spare time enjoyed playing around the farm,&nbsp;especially with his best friend Jimmy Nickel, exploring at the creek, and&nbsp;hunting and fishing. His trusty companion was his dog Rusty and at home&nbsp;he enjoyed the company of his favorite cat, Yellow Bean.

He was a hard worker all of his life. He first worked for Harry Helmer at&nbsp;Canada Grain and then went to work in the ice cream department at AMPI&nbsp;in Hillsboro. It was always a great day when they processed&nbsp;Baskin-Robbins ice cream and there were just enough overruns to bring a little home. He began working for Barkman Honey in Hillsboro in 1974&nbsp;and that is where he began his truck driving career, a career that lasted 43&nbsp;years up until 2017. In 1995 he bought his first truck, a Freightliner, and in&nbsp;1999 he bought a beautiful new 1999 Peterbilt that he was very proud of.

During his driving career, he received numerous safety awards for his&nbsp;accident-free driving. Once, after he backed perfectly into a very tight&nbsp;space with inches to spare, he got cheers and applause from the loading&nbsp;dock workers.

&nbsp;He enjoyed seeing the sights as he traveled all over the&nbsp;U.S., and he enjoyed the friendships he made with his fellow drivers and&nbsp;dispatchers.&nbsp;He never met a stranger and always had a smile and a hello&nbsp;for whoever he was talking to.

When he wasn't trucking, he had many hobbies that included working on&nbsp;his vehicles, visiting out at the farm, hunting, fishing, cooking and baking.

He was a great shot and got several trophy bucks during his hunting trips,&nbsp;many from the family farm. 

And he loved to cook and bake, just like his&nbsp;mother, and he was good at it. He enjoyed nothing better than making a&nbsp;good meal to share with family and friends then kicking back, having a&nbsp;glass of wine and watching TV or listening to music.&nbsp; He also loved to&nbsp;bake bread and the bread machine was always baking a loaf of fresh&nbsp;bread when he was home. 

He instilled his love for those hobbies into his&nbsp;children, who still enjoy them today.

Vernon also had a special house cat, Fat Sacks, and those two had a very&nbsp;close bond. Fat Sacks was an immense comfort to Vernon when he was&nbsp;dealing with his various surgeries, but especially during his battle with&nbsp;cancer in 2009.&nbsp;Fat Sacks passed away in May of 2016 and our hope is&nbsp;that they are together again now and enjoying each other's company.

In August of 2017 Vernon suffered a debilitating stroke and in September&nbsp;of that year began residing at Salem Home in Hillsboro.

&nbsp;While at Salem&nbsp;he enjoyed visiting and joking with the staff and residents and he also&nbsp;enjoyed listening to music and watching TV throughout the day.&nbsp;He was&nbsp;allowed a nightcap every evening and that was always a high point in his&nbsp;day.

Vernon loved his children, grandchildren and new great-grandchild, and&nbsp;enjoyed spending time with them. Visits from family and friends were&nbsp;always a highlight, but he enjoyed visiting his children and grandchildren&nbsp;as well as looking in on his mother at the farm before she moved to Salem&nbsp;Home.

Preceding him in death were his parents and sister Eileen Nickles.

Survivors include spouse Rose, children Brian (Polly Faulkner) Funk of&nbsp;Goessel, Jennifer (Ryan) Green of Republic, MO, Kimberly (Jeremy&nbsp;Garnica) Funk of Newton, grandchildren Kale, Aimee and Abbigail Funk of&nbsp;Goessel, William Green of Republic, MO, Vanessa (Malachi Castillo)&nbsp;Green of Halstead, Dayton Hoskinson, of Newton and great-grandchild&nbsp;Delilah Castillo of Halstead; brother Melvin (Dan Masterson) of Pueblo,&nbsp;CO, sisters Carol Houdyshell of Wichita, Linda Funk (Bill Johnson) of&nbsp;Wichita, Annette King of Hillsboro, Uncle Marvin Unruh of North Newton,&nbsp;aunt Joan Unruh of McPherson, plus many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was born on August 6, 2003 in Mattoon, Illinois, the daughter of Justin Lee and Lynette Joy (Becker) Schmidt. She attended Prairie Mennonite School in Illinois. Jessica was a member of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. For the last year, Jessica was a patient care assistant at Edgewood Assisted Living in Idaho. She recently moved to Moundridge, Kansas where she was planning to begin taking her CNA training and begin work at Moundridge Manor. She is survived by her parents Justin and Lynette Schmidt; sister Kayla Schmidt; brother Andrew Schmidt; paternal grandparents Wayne and Winona Schmidt; maternal grandmother Myrtle Becker; and many extended family and friends. Jessica was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather Howard R. Becker; infant cousin Elizabeth Ann Cole; and aunt Charlotte Cole. Michele Kowalski, 54, of Clay Center, died Saturday, November 26, 2022 at her residence.&nbsp; She was born September 2, 1968 in Erie, Pennsylvania, the daughter of George and Carol (Auer) Kowalski.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Michele grew up in Erie until the age of eight when her father’s military service took the family to Germany for three years.&nbsp; They then lived in Manhattan, Topeka and Clay Center.&nbsp; 

Michele was a registered nurse and worked at Select Medical Care and St. Francis Hospital in Topeka and for Medicalodge in Clay Center.&nbsp; 

Survivors include her son Sam Kowalski of Manhattan, Kansas; sister Katie Grove and Charles Hallman of Clay Center, Kansas; nephew Austin Gilbert and niece Vera Hallman.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center, Kansas.

Richard (Rick) Lee Gengler, 69, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2022, in Beloit, KS.&nbsp; He was born in Beloit, KS August 20,1953, to Walter and Rita (Wessling) Gengler.

He attended first grade at St. John’s Catholic School in Beloit and then moved with his family to Long Beach, CA in 1962. &nbsp;Rick went to grade school at St. Maria Goretti Catholic School in Long Beach and was a 1972 Millikan High School graduate.

Rick was a very good athlete; anything he did, he did well. Whether it was water skiing behind his own boat, darts, ping-pong or softball. Rick was top-notch. Rick pitched and batted clean up. Rick spent many hours riding/practicing on the uni-cycle and his tenacity paid off; he was a proficient rider!

One of Rick’s many jobs, was at the Long Beach airport fueling cargo planes. During that time, he became friends with a flight instructor, and began taking flying lessons. &nbsp;Although he never obtained his pilot’s license, he was very proud to have completed the “ground school training” and acquired enough flight hours to have “solo”ed, in a Cessna 152. &nbsp;

Rick could run any machine, or equipment, as evidenced by being in the “Operating Engineer” union. He felt at home in the driver’s seat of tractors, trucks, backhoes, forklifts, but his favorite was the grain cart.

Rick met his future wife, Renee Hermes, at St. Cornelius Church in Long Beach, California in 1999 and they subsequently married in the same church on January 26, 2002.

Rick was an operating engineer and retired from Local 12 in Southern California in 2007. He then joined Renee in moving to Dekalb, IL where he enjoyed picking corn with a local farmer . They next moved to League City, TX where he volunteered with the Galveston County Fair Board.&nbsp; Finally, Rick and Renee retired to Beloit in 2016.

Rick enjoyed farming with his family here in Beloit.&nbsp; He was the best grain cart driver and he didn’t mind telling you so.&nbsp; He also loved hosting parties in the house and ping-pong in the shed with dear friends. Everyone was always welcome.&nbsp; Having experienced a heart attack while living in TX, Rick also volunteered at the Mitchell County Emergency Medical Services station where he was a strong advocate of CPR training.

Rick wasn’t afraid of hard work; an old-fashioned work ethic was instilled by generations before him. &nbsp;He was proud to show off his many cherished, hard earned items and self-achievements. &nbsp;He was persistent and you couldn’t help but experience the same level of joy he had. &nbsp;His childlike heart and love will be missed.

Rick was a faithful and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

Rick is survived by his wife Renee (Hermes) Gengler, his daughter Heather Gengler, Long Beach, CA; daughter-in-law Patrice Heller, Cerritos, CA; and granddaughter Alexis Heller, Cerritos, CA.&nbsp; He is also survived by his brothers Ron (Cynthia) Gengler, Palm Desert, CA, and Steve Gengler, Flower Mound, TX&nbsp; He will be missed by his sisters Susan Mc Kissack, Long Beach, CA; Cheryl (Pete) Murray, Lakewood, CA and sister-in-law Jackie Gengler, Long Beach, CA. Other survivors include numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 30 at the temporary St. John's Church &amp; former Dollar General Building. A rosary service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday and visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the rosary service begins at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the St. John's Restoration Fund or Heart Choices.

Whether it was water skiing behind his own boat, darts, ping-pong or softball. Rick was top-notch. Rick pitched and batted clean up. Rick spent many hours riding/practicing on the uni-cycle and his tenacity paid off; he was a proficient rider!One of Rick’s many jobs, was at the Long Beach airport fueling cargo planes. During that time, he became friends with a flight instructor, and began taking flying lessons. &nbsp;Although he never obtained his pilot’s license, he was very proud to have completed the “ground school training” and acquired enough flight hours to have “solo”ed, in a Cessna 152. &nbsp;Rick could run any machine, or equipment, as evidenced by being in the “Operating Engineer” union. He felt at home in the driver’s seat of tractors, trucks, backhoes, forklifts, but his favorite was the grain cart.Rick met his future wife, Renee Hermes, at St. Cornelius Church in Long Beach, California in 1999 and they subsequently married in the same church on January 26, 2002.Rick was an operating engineer and retired from Local 12 in Southern California in 2007. He then joined Renee in moving to Dekalb, IL where he enjoyed picking corn with a local farmer . They next moved to League City, TX where he volunteered with the Galveston County Fair Board.&nbsp; Finally, Rick and Renee retired to Beloit in 2016.Rick enjoyed farming with his family here in Beloit.&nbsp; He was the best grain cart driver and he didn’t mind telling you so.&nbsp; He also loved hosting parties in the house and ping-pong in the shed with dear friends. Everyone was always welcome.&nbsp; Having experienced a heart attack while living in TX, Rick also volunteered at the Mitchell County Emergency Medical Services station where he was a strong advocate of CPR training.Rick wasn’t afraid of hard work; an old-fashioned work ethic was instilled by generations before him. &nbsp;He was proud to show off his many cherished, hard earned items and self-achievements. &nbsp;He was persistent and you couldn’t help but experience the same level of joy he had. &nbsp;His childlike heart and love will be missed.Rick was a faithful and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. John M. Schmitt, age 73, of Concordia, KS, passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2022 at North Central Kansas Medical Center, Concordia, KS.&nbsp; He was born on December 2, 1948 in Concordia, KS to Arthur F. and Mary A. (Thompson) Schmitt.

John graduated in 1967 from Notre Dame Catholic High School, Concordia.&nbsp; During his senior year, John won a state title in the low hurdles and continued his track career at Benedictine College and again at Cloud County Community College.&nbsp; He was instrumental in starting the track club at Benedictine College.

He married Mary A. Betzen on May 22, 1971 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, St. Mark’s, KS.

John worked in the family business at Schmitt’s Clothing and later was a truck driver for Christensen Oil and later Myers Trucking until his retirement in 2017.

He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia and a former Knights of Columbus member.&nbsp; He was active in the Jaycees where he was a past president and district officer.&nbsp; He was a former Scoutmaster for Troop 32 and former member of the Elks club.

John is survived by his wife Mary, Concordia; his children Theodore “Ted” Schmitt (Virginia), Salina, Brian Schmitt (Anna Stone), Tampa, FL, Sarah Reed (Shawn), Concordia, Marsha Schmitt Fulton (Casey), Topeka, Peter Schmitt (Sarah), Lawrence, Carl Schmitt, Lawrence and Nicholas Schmitt, Lawrence; 11 grandchildren; brother Matt Schmitt (Edna), Beatrice, NE and a sister, Ann Sharpe (Art), Albuquerque, NM and all of Mary’s family, including several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Samantha Schmitt.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia with Fr. Blanche Angela Haug, 88, beloved wife and mother, passed from this life on November 28, 2022. She was born September 18, 1934 in Seneca, KS, the daughter of Walter and Theresa (Fangman) Stallbaumer.

She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in St. Benedict, a small town near Seneca, in 1952.

Blanche was united in marriage to Lambert Haug on January 25, 1955. They chose Abilene as their home in 1957 and raised their seven children there, growing together in love and faith in their 67 years of marriage. As her children left home, Blanche entered the real estate business in Abilene with her husband. Her warm and genuine personality led her to be a successful realtor at Haug Realty. Her smile and kind words always had a way of warming the hearts and lifting the spirit of those around her, even in her final days. She had a devout love for Jesus and was passionate about her Catholic faith. She modeled this by always encouraging her family to grow in their faith and praying for them always. In her later years she and her husband were fortunate to make religious pilgrimages, domestic and abroad to Venezuela, the Holy Land, and Rome, including a general audience with Pope John Paul II. These travels deepened her faith and devotion to God. Blanche was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, the Ladies of St. Andrew, and Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed volunteering there, as well as the Abilene Clothing Bank. She was a wonderful cook, known for her delicious pies and chocolate chip cookies. She loved playing bridge and visiting over coffee with friends while still active. Blanche spent the last few months of her life being cared for at home by her loving family.

 She will be sadly missed by her husband Lambert, children Dr. Tom (Karen) Haug of Lincoln, NE, Ed (Nola) Haug of Fort Myers, FL, Sue (Rick) Helvey of Salina, KS, Tim (Terri) Haug of Leawood, KS, Tony (Jenny) Haug, Katy (Ted) Barbieri, and Jenny (Chris) Brooks, all of Abilene, 29 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, sisters Joan Steinlage, Seneca, KS, Anna Marie Hiestand, Fargo, MN, and brother Pat Stallbaumer, Topeka, KS. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, four brothers, and a grandson. Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, December 2 at 10 a.m. St. Andrew Catholic Church, Abilene.&nbsp;Parish rosary Thursday, December 1 at 5:30 p.m., Danner Funeral Home, Abilene.

Born in 1933 in Gangwon-do, Korea, she immigrated to the United States in 1976 with her three children. In 1982, she put down roots in Salina, KS, raising her family as matriarch and working hard to support and cultivate a cheerful, welcoming home.

Byong enjoyed gardening, knitting, traveling, and creating cherished memories with her family. She will be remembered as a steadfast, warm-hearted woman who embraced the happy moments in life while enduring through hard times with grace and strength.

She will be laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Park in Salina, KS, in a private ceremony by immediate family.

Richard Devon Laws, 80, of Orem, Utah passed away suddenly on Sunday, November 27, 2022 at the home of his son, Darin, in Minneapolis, Kansas. Richard was born April 6, 1942 in Fillmore, Utah to Elroy and Eava Richardson Laws. 

He married Sharlet Marie Slade on June 9, 1967 in Salt Lake Temple of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Richard grew up in Provo and graduated from Provo High School. 

After high school Richard served in the U.S. Army. He served in the CIA in his early years and later moved back to Utah County and worked at Geneva Steel for 37 years. 

His family will always remember Richard as a hard worker and always on time. 

Richard loved sports and was an avid Jazz and BYU fan and coached his sons in baseball in their youth. He was a devoted member of the LDS Church and served faithfully in many callings. He enjoyed nothing more than teasing grandchildren and attending their many activities. 

Richard and Sharlet moved to Kansas nine months ago to live with their son and his family. While there, they enjoyed fun activities which included visiting Dodge City where his favorite western television program “Gunsmoke” was set. There he was able to finally say “lets get the hell out of Dodge.”

He is survived by his wife Sharlet of Orem; three children: Brenda (Dan) White, Orem; Brian (Rachel) Laws, Wake Forest, NC; Darin (Anita) Laws, Minneapolis, KS; 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; five siblings: Kaelene (Richard) Swanson, Mike (Peggy) Laws, Vicki (Jim) Guild, Debbie (Darrell) Trump and Tammy (Dave) Nuttall. 

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Tara.&nbsp;

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 2, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the Orem Second Ward Chapel, 80 South 280 East, Orem. Family and friends may attend a viewing Thursday evening from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove, Utah and on Friday at the church from 9:30 -10:45 a.m. prior to services. Jessie F. (Drake) Showalter, 88, went to be with her Savior on 
November 27, 2022. She was born to William L. and Ella M. (Dial) Kramel 
of Blackwater, MO, the eighth of 10 children.

Jessie was married to Rex Drake for 28 years. He passed in 1982. She remarried to Ray Showalter for 20 years. He passed in 2011.

Jessie was a beautician and owner of Larkland Beauty Salon for many 
years as well as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. You
 could always find her busy in the kitchen, working in her yard, or 
playing with her grandchildren. Jessie was a great cook and known for 
her mashed potatoes as well as delicious desserts. She loved to pay 
cards with her sister and enjoyed annual fishing trips to Roaring River 
with her family. Jessie was a long-time member of Temple Baptist and New
 Hope Baptist Churches.

Survivors include: her children, Terri (Danny) Kelsey of Dickinson, 
TX, Daniel (Karen) Drake of Hutchinson, Kim Drake of Salina, Stephen 
(Rowena) Drake of Joplin, MO; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 
brothers, William Lee (Eleanor) Kramel, Bob Kramel, and Emil (Kathy) 
Kramel.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husbands, Rex Drake and 
Ray Showalter; grandson, Cameron Bookout; 4 sisters; and 1 brother.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, December 2, 2022, at 
Elliott Chapel with Pastor Harold Nelson officiating. Burial will follow
 in Fairlawn Burial Park. The service will be livestreamed and the link

Edward Dalke, 84, of Hesston, passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2022, at Pine Village in Moundridge, Kansas. He was born September 20, 1938, in Fort Cobb, Oklahoma, the youngest of seven children born to Henry and Carrie (Base) Dalke. 

He spent his first years of life growing up on the Base homeplace in Fort Cobb. Edward prayed to receive Christ as his savior at the age of twelve after hearing an evangelist share the Gospel at his home church, Green Field Mennonite, which was just a few miles away from the Base homeplace. As soon as he was big enough to pull a sack behind him, Edward joined in the family’s work of picking cotton. From a young age, it was his dream to be able to have and run a farm of his own. After his brother Herman and wife Selma moved to Halstead, they helped find work for Edward on nearby farms during the summer. His parents, Henry and Carrie, also made the move to Halstead, Kansas where Edward finished high school. In the summer of 1957, Earl and Darlene Bartel hired Edward as a farmhand, and a certain Joyce Voran as help inside the house with cooking, cleaning, and watching the children. Edward and Joyce were soon smitten with each other, got engaged at Christmas and were married that next summer on June 20, 1958. They had three children together, Ileen, Allen, and Janell. Edward learned how to weld in high school and went to mechanics school in Denver after high school. These things served him well when he went to work for Hesston Corporation.

Soon after Janell was born, Edward got to realize his dream of having his own farm. The family moved to a farm just down the road from Joyce’s homeplace, and Edward farmed that land for over 50 years. He continued at Hesston Corporation while he began a dairy. He operated a dairy for more than 20 years and then drove truck for Sunglo Feeds for nearly 20 years. 

He served at Garden Church all of his adult life in various capacities including the roles of deacon and elder. Church and ministry were very important in Edward’s life. He loved his family, loved God and desired that all of his friends and family have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Survivors include his daughters Ileen Miller of Oceanside, California and Janell (Ray) Zuercher of Olathe, Kansas; Five grandchildren: Clarissa Dalke, Tyler Dalke, Rachelle Clair, Jared Zuercher, and Katelynn Zuercher; ten great-grandchildren; brother, Norman Dalke of Yukon, Oklahoma; sisters, Ruthie Nightengale of Carnegie, Oklahoma and Edith Unruh of Halstead, Kansas; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Edward was preceded in death by his parents; wife Joyce; son Allen; brothers Herman and Irwin; sister Ruby Unruh; brothers-in-law Alvin Unruh, Leo Nightengale, and Bennie Unruh; sisters-in-law Selma, Norabell, and Micky.
