Larry Edward Larson, son of George C. Larson and Ruby A. Aspegren Larson was born August 9, 1943, in Concordia, Kansas. He passed away April 10, 2023, as the result of a tractor accident in rural Scandia, KS, at the age of 79 years, 8 months.
Larry attended school in Scandia and graduated from Scandia Rural High School in 1961. He attended college at Fort Hays State University and Kansas State University, receiving a bachelor of science degree in agriculture from KSU in 1968.
On May 28, 1973, Larry was united in marriage to Coleen M. Kemper at St. John’s Catholic Church in Logan, Kansas. The couple made their home in rural Scandia. To this union, Karen, Kelly, Edward, and Kristen were born.
Throughout his life Larry was a farmer, rancher, and truck driver.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, neighbor, and friend to many. Also, he was an active member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church and the Scandia Lions Club. In countless ways, Larry spent his life serving his faith, family, farm, and friends and will be dearly missed by many.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents George and Ruby Larson, his brothers Gene Larson, Don Larson, Harold Larson, and Richard Larson, and sister Helen Sankey.
He is survived by his wife Coleen Larson, children Karen (Nikolay Volkov) Larson of Moscow, Russia, Kelly (Jim) Gourley of Beverly, Kansas, Edward Larson of Overland Park, Kansas, and Kristen (Scott) Peterson of Helena, Montana, as well as five grandchildren, Alexey, Roman, Dean, Lucy, and Jack. He is also survived by brother Robert (Anita) Larson of Scandia, and twin sister Lorraine (Lowell) Chellberg of Topeka, Kansas, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The casket has been closed. Visitation will be held at Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home in Belleville, Kansas, on Monday, April 17, 2023, from 1:00 pm to 8:00 p.m., with a rosary service at 5:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, Belleville, on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at 10:30 a.m., with Father Henry Baxa presiding, Deacon Steve Heiman assisting, with burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery in Scandia, Kansas.
Memorials are suggested to the Pike Valley Foundation, St. Edward’s Tuck-Point Project, or Scandia Lions Club.
