Robert Wayne Balding, 73, of McPherson, KS, passed away at 11:27 a.m., Friday, April 14, 2023, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, KS.
Robert was born in Hardtner, KS on May 28, 1949, a son of Richard and Dorothy (Hoffman) Balding.
Bob graduated from Nickerson High School in 1967. He then attended Hutchinson Community College, Hutchinson, KS and graduated from Kansas University, Lawrence, KS with a bachelor's degree in accounting.
Bob and his family attended Countryside Covenant Church in McPherson for approximately 25 years, where Bob served as a faithful follower of Christ. Bob and Susan then attended CrossPoint Church, Hutchinson, KS.
He served honorably for the United States Army where he was a part of the Special Forces Battalion. Bob was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor For Outstanding Service in connection with military operations against a hostile force during the Vietnam War.
Bob was an accountant for many companies throughout his life in Hutchinson, Wichita, Topeka, McPherson and Rose Hill.
Bob enjoyed reading, watching and playing golf with his buddies and spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren.
Bob was united in marriage to Susan Spence on June 7, 1975 in Hutchinson, KS. The young couple established their first home together in Hutchinson. This union was blessed with the birth of three children, Lance, Adam and Cindy.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Susan Balding, of McPherson, KS; his children, Lance Balding and his wife Lorrie, of Miami, FL, Adam Balding and his wife Hayley, of Apex, NC and Cindy Glover and her husband Brian of Bel Aire, KS; his sister Kathy Howes, of Hutchinson, KS and Pam Berns and her husband Bruce, of Perry, KS. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren, Trevor, Zachary, Atticus, Ahmya, Lily, Siri, Malachi, and a baby coming in May; other relatives; nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 21, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Eastside Cemetery, Hutchinson, KS. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 24 and Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 2715 with Mark Casebeer playing Taps.
Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 21, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Glidden-Ediger-Wiggins Chapel in McPherson, KS.
