Leo M. Baker, 89, Minneapolis, passed away Friday, April 14, 2023, at the Ottawa County Health Center, Minneapolis.  He was born January 7, 1934, in Ottawa County to Guy and Ina (Smith) Baker.

Leo was a 1951 graduate of Minneapolis High School, and he served in the United States Army from 1955-56. 

He married his high school sweetheart, Evelyn Liby, on June 21, 1953.

He worked for the City of Minneapolis for 42 years and served on the Minneapolis Fire Department for 31 years. Leo was a member of the V.F.W. Post #3201 and the First United Methodist Church.

Evelyn passed away on February 26, 1981. He married his second love, Marilyn Breneman Smith, on December 10, 1981. They were married for 41 special years.

Besides Evelyn, he was preceded in death by his parents; son Kenny Baker; grandson Doug Cain; and sister Norma Lee Johnson.

Survivors are his wife Marilyn; daughters Darla Cain-Karst and her husband Sam and Sandra Hendrix and her husband Kenny; sons Mike Smith and his wife Kim, Mark Smith and his wife Kellea, and Marvin Smith; grandchildren Matt Villalpando, Devon Hart and her husband Dan, Mark Cain and his wife Sarah, Jessica Owens and her husband Tyrel, Kassi Jones and her husband Scott, Sheyanne Krier and her husband, Alijah, Zach Smith and his fiance Lauren Cyr, Drew Smith and his wife Fayth, Alyssa Breen and her husband Garrett, Trevor Smith and his wife Nikki, Amanda Ervin and her husband Derek, and James Villalpando and his fiancé Cait; and 17 great-grandchildren. Family was everything to Leo, and he loved his family dearly.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 18 at Wilson Family Funeral Home, 405 Argyle Ave., Minneapolis, KS 67467, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00.  Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 19 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis. 

Memorials may be made to the Minneapolis Fire Department and be left in care of the funeral home.
