Don D. Tatro, 93, of McPherson, KS and formerly of Hutchinson, KS, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at The Cedars, McPherson.&nbsp;

Don was born on April 10, 1929, in Cherokee, OK, the son of LeRoy “Lee” Ottowa Tatro and Dora Edith (Hale) Tatro.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;He attended Washington Grade School and graduated from Alva High School in Alva, OK.&nbsp; On June 6, 1948, Don was united in marriage to Cleta E. Richardson in Alva, OK.&nbsp;

Don was a United States Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War from 1949 to 1952.&nbsp; He served in the 45th&nbsp;Infantry Division and was honorably discharged at the rank of corporal.

While living in Oklahoma, Don worked for Shalloup Packing Company for five years and Carmen Locker &amp; Ice Plant for three years.&nbsp; While living in Pratt, KS, Don worked for Cudahy Packing Company in sales and management for 20 years. In 1980, he and Cleta purchased the Zip Trip Convenience Store until 1987 and sold to the Bridgman Oil Company.&nbsp; In 1988, they purchased a liquor store, known as Tatro Liquor, in Pratt.&nbsp; They sold the store in 1994, retired, and moved back to Hutchinson, KS.&nbsp;

Don enjoyed bowling, golf, old cars, hunting with his four sons and brother, Robert “Bob”, who passed away in 2003.

Survivors include his loving wife of 74 years, Cleta; four sons, Thomas Tatro and wife, Marla, of Broken Arrow, OK, Terry Tatro and wife, Pat, of Issaquah, WA, Bob Tatro and wife, Becky, of McPherson, KS, and Gary Tatro and wife, Jo, of Cheney, KS; ten grandchildren, Ethan Tatro, Anna Tatro, Tammi Kirkpatrick, Kyle Tatro, Meghann Sterling, Chelsea Thul, Audrey Reese, Jessica Gillette, Zac Tatro, and Breanna Tatro; two step-granddaughters, Monica and Morgan; 22 great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother and sister-in-law, Robert “Bob” and Bonnie Tatro.

Kevin Lee Bruner, Sr., 60, of McPherson, KS, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at his home in McPherson. Kevin was a warehouse material handler for Pfizer in McPherson.

Kevin was born on December 13, 1962, in Columbia, MO, the son of Ralph Eugene and Donna Sue (Byrd) Bruner.&nbsp; He graduated from McPherson High School in 1981.&nbsp; Kevin was united in marriage to Patricia Jean Wright on March 31, 2002.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two sons, Aubrey and Kevin, Jr.

Survivors include: his loving wife, Patricia “Trish” of the home; two sons, Aubrey Bruner of Atlanta, GA and Kevin Bruner, Jr. (Sally Tran) of Manhattan, KS; a brother, Clinton Bruner (Dara) of Wichita, KS; sister-in-law, Kimberly Bruner of McPherson, KS; aunt, Mae Bruner of Fulton, MO; uncle, James “Peanut” Byrd of McPherson, KS; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph &amp; Donna Bruner, and two brothers, Calvin Bruner and Donald Bruner.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM, Friday, April 7, 2023, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM, all at the First United Methodist Church, 1200 E. Kevin Lee Bruner, Sr.

Dr. Victor B. Streufert, 96, of Lindsborg died March 24, 2023, at Bethany Home, Lindsborg.  He was born on October 1, 1926, to the Rev. Alfred and Lydia (Brauer) Streufert in Annandale, Minnesota.  Following his mother’s death during his early infancy, he was lovingly raised in Oak Park, Illinois by his uncle and aunt, Walter and Anna Berndt. 

He was confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church in Chicago, IL and graduated from Concordia High School and Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, IL. In 1945, he taught at a one-room school at St. John’s, Lyons Creek, near Herington, KS.  In 1948, he studied and taught at St. John’s College in Winfield, KS where he also coached track. 

In 1952, he began teaching at Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, IL, where he met Carolyn (Kay) Schmidt, a student from Garfield Heights, Ohio. They married on June 17, 1956.  

After gaining degrees from Concordia Seminary (St. Louis, Missouri), Washington University (St. Louis, Missouri), and Southern Illinois University (Carbondale, Illinois), he was ordained as a pastor and called to teach at Concordia College (Illinois), Bethany College (Kansas), and Concordia College (Nebraska).  

He also assisted with church planning for the Lutheran Council in the USA (LCUSA) and the Northern Illinois District of the Missouri Synod. He was involved in church-related statistical analyses and helped found the Center for Social Research in the Church (CenSRCH) at Concordia College, River Forest. 

Upon retirement in Lindsborg in 1991, he provided pulpit supply for many area congregations and assisted Bethany College with institutional research. He also led the Christmas German service at Trinity Lutheran Church in Salina for twenty years.

Vic was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed gardening, telling jokes, finding out people’s stories, and helping Christians work together.

His family was his joy. He is survived by his wife, Kay, of Lindsborg; children: Peter (Deanna) of London, ON; Jean (Mike) of Mitchell, SD; Stephen (Lisa) of Bainbridge Island, WA; and Ann (Terry) of Decorah, IA. Also thanking the Lord for his life are seven grandchildren: Kari (Dave), Erik, Catherine (Reid), Shea (Emma), Kendall, Stella, Pete; five great-grandchildren: Eva, Orin, Jacob, Soren, Collins; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.

Vic was preceded in death by nine siblings: Herbert (Norma), Gertrude Christensen (Hans), Edgar (Verona), Mark (Selma), Bert (Adeline), Cordelia Koepke (Edwin), Hildegarde Crane (Frank), Carl (Phyllis), and Alfred (Laurie). 

A graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery, Lindsborg on Saturday, April 1 at 1:00 pm.  A Celebration of Life service will be at 2:30 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church, 702 S. 9th St., Salina. The family invites everyone to these services.

Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He was born on September 11, 1952, in 
Herington to Clarence Dale and Betty (Ruppel) Brown. Gary married Deanna
 Sue Dix-Brown on October 6, 2001 in Pratt. They were married for 21 
years. Charlie graduated from Herington High School in 1970 and 
was a member of BPOE Elks Lodge, Brotherhood of Maintenance and Way 
Employees Division (BMWED) and American Railway and Airway Supervisor 
Association (ARASA). He worked for Union Pacific Railroad and retired as
 a track inspector after 42 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, mowing
 the yard, washing cars, and spending time with friends and family. 
Charlie never met a stranger! He is survived by his wife, Dea; 
son, Tyler (Leslee) Brown of Wichita; daughters, Amy Brown of Wichita 
and Kylee (Charlie) Bacon of Andover; sisters, Gaylene Staatz of 
Herington and Glenda Payne of Abilene; brother, Jerry Brown of 
Marysville; and grandchildren, Lauren and Ty Brown and Jackson and

Gary D. Jennings, 80, of Salina, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2023.&nbsp; He was born May 12, 1942, in Salina, Kansas, to Clarence Henry and Nathalie Louise (Sampson) Jennings.&nbsp; He married Ruby Manny on December 19, 1965, in Salina, Kansas.&nbsp; Gary served as a member in the National Guard.&nbsp; He enjoyed drag racing and held a record for the National Hot Rod Association.&nbsp; Gary served 33 years for USD 305 his many roles included custodian, building operator, carpenter and locksmith.&nbsp; He enjoyed traveling to watch Jason play baseball and shared a love for cars with his son Shawn.&nbsp; Gary was a family man and a firm believer in Christ. 

He is survived by his wife, Ruby, of the home; children, Shawn Jennings, of Salina, Jason Jennings, of Olathe, Michael Jennings, of Colorado and Pamela Rietz, of Colorado; sisters, Constance Pender, of Las Vegas, and Patricia Gruber, of Springfield, MO; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Mark Jennings; brothers, Robert Jennings and Richard Jennings.

Phyllis Jacqueline (Trow) Dority, 83, of Bennington, Kansas, passed away, Wednesday, March 29, at Wakefield Care and Rehabilitation Center in Wakefield, Kansas. Phyllis was born on August 13, 1939, in Minneapolis, Kansas, to Tommy and Bernice (Joseph) Trow. She was the oldest of three girls. Phyllis was raised in Minneapolis and Salina. She was a majorette for Salina Central High School. Phyllis married Arlen N. Dority on Feb 6, 1957. After they married, they lived in Salina for 9 years before moving to Aurora, Colorado, where they lived for 12 years. They moved back and settled down in Bennington in 1978. She was a homemaker but also worked for Swift Processing in Salina, was the Bakery Manager for King Sooper in Aurora, Colorado and as a waitress at Bayard's Cafe in Salina. Phyllis loved to sew and made Barbie clothes for the girls for Christmas. She also loved living in the country where her husband, father, and family helped build their home. She also liked doing ceramics, camping, traveling, dancing, and puzzles. Survivors include her daughters, Lanette Millieson (Ron), Keyna Leonard (Sam); son, Douglas Dority; sister, Debby Jackson; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren. She also raised Kodiak Dority as her own. She loved him with all of her heart and was very proud of his accomplishments in life. Phyllis was born on August 13, 1939, in Minneapolis, Kansas, to Tommy and Bernice (Joseph) Trow. She was the oldest of three girls. Phyllis was raised in Minneapolis and Salina. She was a majorette for Salina Central High School. Phyllis married Arlen N. Dority on Feb 6, 1957. After they married, they lived in Salina for 9 years before moving to Aurora, Colorado, where they lived for 12 years. They moved back and settled down in Bennington in 1978. Phyllis Jacqueline (Trow) Dority

Robert “Bob” Henry Gebhart, age 90, of Bonner Springs, Kansas, went home 
to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 26th, 2023, surrounded by his family
 at his home. 

 A visitation is planned for Thursday, April 6th, at the 
Alden-Harrington Funeral Home at 5:00 pm with a memorial service 
starting at 7:00 pm.  Immediately following that service his family will
 be hosting a gathering to celebrate his life at the Harrington Family 
Event Center (next-door to the funeral home). 

In lieu of flowers, the 
family requests memorial contributions to the Disabled American 
Veterans. 
Bob was born on August 15, 1932, in Salina, Kansas, and was the youngest 
of two sons born to Joseph &amp; Ida (Barr) Gebhart. Bob grew up in the
 Salina and Ada, Kansas, area, graduating from Ada High School in the 
Class of 1951.

 He married Marcylene “Marcy” Kissick on Oct. 19, 1952 
and together they made their home in Salina and later moved to the 
Kansas City (Piper), Kansas, area in 1958 where they raised their three 
children: Mike, Sherry and Terry.  Marcy preceded him in death in 2007. 

Bob served in the Naval Air Reserves in Olathe, Kansas from 1951 to 
1953. He then served in the US Army, C Battery, 734th Anti-Aircraft 
Artillery Battalion in Chicago, Illinois, from 1953 to 1955. After the 
Military and his time in the Reserves, Bob had a long career as a grain 
merchandiser, working for Smoot Grain, Gooch Feed and later retired from
 Bartlett Grain in 2003. He served on the Piper Board of Education, 
was a member of the Piper Prairie Optimist Club and an active member of 
the Wolcott Baptist Church. 
On March 28, 2009, Bob married Donna (Stuart-Payne) at the Maywood 
Community Church. They resided in the Piper area until they moved to 
Bonner Springs, KS in 2019. During his retirement Bob enjoyed 
traveling, working in his yard, spending time at the farm, organizing 
his antiques &amp; collectibles, and following the local sports teams: 
KC Chiefs, KC Royals, and the K-State Wildcats. However, his biggest 
enjoyment involved interacting with people, spending time with his 
family &amp; friends and attending activities &amp; sporting events for 
his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bob was very proud to say 
that he and Donna had a total of 34 grandchildren! 
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Donald Gebhart and by a step-son Michael Payne. 
He is survived by his wife Donna Gebhart of the home, his children Mike 
(Connie) Gebhart of Barnard, KS, Sherry (Scott) McKinley of Basehor, KS,
 and Terry (Gene) Kubicki of Kansas City, Kansas, Stepchildren Christy 
(Chase) Zellers of Orlando, FL, Nikki Gravatt of Kansas City, KS, Kim

Robert 'Bob' Henry Gebhart

Joyce Lee (Wray) Shriner, 87, of Geneseo, Kansas, passed away March 27, 2023, at the Salina Presbyterian Manor, Salina, Kansas. She was born July 10, 1935, in Salinas, California, the daughter of Ernest E. and Lydia M. (Galyardt) Wray. 

Joyce resided in Geneseo for 69 years, and was formerly of Lyons, Kansas. She graduated from Lyons High School, with the class of 1953. Joyce was a homemaker. She worked for the United States Postal Service from 1977 until retiring in 1997. Joyce was a member of the Geneseo United Methodist Church, where she served on numerous church committees, sang in the church choir, and taught Sunday School. 

She was a member of the United Methodist Women, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Geneseo, Girl Scouts of America, and the Geneseo Ladies Thanksgiving Club. Joyce served on the Rice County Election Board and Geneseo Library Board. She enjoyed singing, reading, cooking, and spending time with family. 

On August 29, 1953, Joyce was united in marriage with James William “Jim” Shriner in Lincoln, Kansas. He preceded her in death on October 3, 2021. She is also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jack Wray; sister-in-law, Marlyn Wray; brother-in-law, Jim Ludes; son-in-law, David Phillips. 

Joyce is survived by her three children, Jamie Lea Shriner Hart and husband Randall of Midwest City, OK, Jerri Lynn Shriner Phillips of Salina, KS, and James Wayne Shriner of Geneseo and girlfriend Dianna Lange of Lyons, KS; sister, Evelyn Ludes of Great Bend, KS; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. 

Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Monday, April 3, 2023, at the Geneseo United Methodist Church, Geneseo, with Pastor Steve Holmes officiating. Burial will follow at the Geneseo Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M., Sunday, April 2, 2023, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with family present.

Joyce Lee (Wray) Shriner

Josephine Marie (Holzmeister) Kuntz, 99, of Quinter, Kansas, passed 
away on&nbsp;March 28, 2023, at the Gove County Long Term Care in Quinter. 
Josephine was&nbsp;born on January 23, 1924, on a farm North of Bison, KS to 
John and Susan (Herman) Holzmeister.

She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Loretta, then graduated 
from high school at Otis, KS. After graduation she attended Salt City 
Business College in Hutchinson, KS, graduated and moved to Salina, KS 
where she worked for two years at the Smokey Hill Air Base as a 
secretary/typist. Her parents then moved from rural Rush County to a 
farm North of Quinter. She then moved home, and there she met her future
 husband, Nicholas Kuntz, in 1945, later marrying on October 15, 1946. 
He preceded her in death on August 7, 2001.

Josephine was a long-time member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 
Park, KS and the Sacred Heart Altar Society. She will be remembered for 
her daily devotion to prayer, many times you would see or hear her 
praying as she worked. Josephine worked alongside her husband on the 
farm, raised chickens for eggs and butchering, and milked cows for the 
sale of cream, milk, and butter to area residents most of her adult 
life. She loved to grow produce to can and feed her large family in the 
spring and summer. She was a wonderful cook and baker and rarely used 
recipes. Josephine also shared her love to dance with her husband, they 
were very well known for leading wedding marches.

She is survived by her six children, four boys, D.Allen (Esta), 
Michael (Jone), Carlyle, and Charles (Deb), all of Quinter, and two 
daughters, Kathryn Fossett of Golden, Colorado, and Lois Ann (Philip) 
McClanahan of Salina, 11 grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, 6 great 
grandchildren, and 14 step-great grandchildren, 4 step-great great 
grandchildren, one brother, Edwin Holzmeister of Hays, one 
sister-in-law, Pauline Holzmeister of Salina, and many nieces and 
nephews.

Josephine is preceded in death by her parents, husband, six brothers,
 Aaron (Joyce), Sylvester (Geneva), Lawrence (Francis), Hubert 
(Elenora), Abraham, and Arnold, one sister, Frieda (George) Waldman, 
brother-in-law, Carl Headrick, and one sister-in-law, Darlene 
Holzmeister.

Funeral service will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in 
Park on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in the 
Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Schmitt Funeral Home, 
Quinter, on Friday, March 31, 2023, starting at 6:00 p.m. with a vigil 
following at 7:30 p.m.

Donna Schneider, 95, died on Monday, March 27, 2023, at Lane County 
Hospital in Dighton. She was born on March 31, 1927, in Lane County, the 
daughter of James Henry &amp; Ethel Rose (Myers) McCoy. She married 
Forrest H. Schneider on May 27, 1945, in Lane County. He died on May 15,
 2020. 
Donna attended Pleasant View Grade School and graduated from Dighton 
High School. She and her husband lived in Lane County until 1953 when 
they moved to Salida, Colorado. While there she had several jobs 
including working at a drive in restaurant, at a resort restaurant in 
Poncha Springs, the Salida Flower Shop, Clerk at a Department Store 
before becoming the bookkeeper at Coca-Cola. In 1980, they moved back to
 Dighton and she worked at Whiting’s Department Store.

She was a member
 of First Christian Church, ESA Sorority and the Red Hat Society. She 
and her husband enjoyed traveling to warmer weather in the winters to 
Del Rio, Texas; Mesa, Arizona; and Lake Havasu, Arizona. She had many 
interests including camping, fishing, boating, snowmobiling, arts and 
crafts, quilting and playing cards and dominos. 
She is survived by her Sister- Rita Roehl of Dighton, Nieces and 
Nephews- Glenda (Jamie) Cheatum of Salina, Cindy (Jerry) Bailey of Scott
 City, Rad Roehl (Kathryn) of Dighton, Diana (Terry) Cramer of Orange 
Beach, Alabama, Anita Mumma of Phoenix, Arizona, Pam (Greg) Augustine of
 Ellis and Cheri Benjamin of Antigua, West Indies. She is preceded in 
death by her Parents, Husband, Brother- Roland McCoy and Sister- 
Inabelle Mumma. 
Memorial Service will be at 2:00 PM Saturday at First Christian Church 
in Dighton with Pastor Alana Chapman officiating. Burial will be in 
Dighton Memorial Cemetery.

Donna Schneider

Linda Marie Chilson, 84, passed away on March 25, 2023 at McPherson Hospital in McPherson, KS. Linda was born on June 06, 1938 in McPherson, KS, the daughter of Eugene and Emma Marie (Hall) Shawly. Linda attended Lincoln Grade School, McPherson Park School and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, KS. Through the years, Linda worked as a homemaker. She was employed by Farmers Alliance. She then worked as a control clerk for NCRA for over 25 years until she retired. Linda enjoyed painting, drawing, gardening in her back yard, watching her flowers bloom, reading, shopping, fishing, camping, getting her hair done. She looked forward to meeting her friends for coffee and swimming. She loved being with her church family and spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and family. Linda M. Shawly was united in marriage to Billy Gene Chilson on November 22, 1955 in Hutchinson, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in McPherson. This union was blessed with the birth of five children, Billy Jr., Jerry, Michael, Mitchell, and Shelley. Linda was born on June 06, 1938 in McPherson, KS, the daughter of Eugene and Emma Marie (Hall) Shawly. Linda attended Lincoln Grade School, McPherson Park School and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, KS. Through the years, Linda worked as a homemaker. She was employed by Farmers Alliance. She then worked as a control clerk for NCRA for over 25 years until she retired. Linda enjoyed painting, drawing, gardening in her back yard, watching her flowers bloom, reading, shopping, fishing, camping, getting her hair done. She looked forward to meeting her friends for coffee and swimming. She loved being with her church family and spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and family. Linda M. Shawly was united in marriage to Billy Gene Chilson on November 22, 1955 in Hutchinson, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in McPherson. This union was blessed with the birth of five children, Billy Jr., Jerry, Michael, Mitchell, and Shelley. Christopher L. Cease was born June 30, 1973 in Wamego, Kansas the son of Larry and Sheryl (Holloway) Cease. He grew up in Wamego enjoying playing sports and graduated from Wamego High School with the class of 1991. (Not sure on that) On April 29, 2011 he was united in marriage to Tonya Martens in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Chris was a hard working dad and husband and was very involved with his kids, helping them by coaching baseball, basketball, and football. He worked for Midco Plastics in Enterprise for several years as a Production Manager and then for Land Pride as a paint line lead. Chris passed away on Monday, March 27, 2023 at his home in Abilene with his family by his side. He is survived by his loving wife Tonya of the home, father Larry Cease of Wamego, sons Christopher and his wife Jewlia Cease of Abilene, Chrisxavier Cease of Enterprise, step daughter Kyla Hasselman of Abilene, step sons Logan Hasselman of Washington State, Rhyce Hasselman of Abilene, Nathan Hasselman of Abilene, brother Garnett Cease and his wife Annie of Manhattan, grandchildren Ella and Oaklen Cease. Peter Joseph McSpadden, 26, passed away on March 23, 2023, with his family and friends by his side. Peter was born in Longmont, Colorado on April 7, 1996, to Becky McSpadden and Mark Freimuth.

Peter was an avid outdoorsman, with a love for fishing, hunting, trapping, and archery. He loved being outside! Peter enjoyed spending time with his friends, who he loved like family. He was a fun-loving, extremely caring, fun, goofy spirit. He will be deeply missed by everyone lucky enough to know and love him.

Survivors include his father, Mark (Nancy) Freimuth, and siblings, Crystal Freeman, Russell Taylor, and Rory Fairchild. Nieces and nephews; Addison, Mayce, Sheldon, and Paislyn. Grandmother, Sherry Freimuth, and lots of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A Celebration of life will take place on April 7th, 2023, at the Blind Pig Sports Lounge, 2501 Market Place, Salina, KS, from 4-8 p.m. Feel free to come and go as you please.

Peter Joseph McSpadden

John K. Fritz Sr. passed away March 26th. 2023 peacefully at home with family by his side. He was born on December 6, 1932, at home to E.M. and Olga R. (Kogler) Fritz in Gypsum, Kansas. John their second son along with older brother Gilford (Jean) Fritz of Salina, Ks. and younger brother Gene (Margaret) Fritz of Gypsum, Kansas. 

 As a youth his earliest adventures started on the Kogler’s family farm outside of Gypsum. There he learned to shoot squirrels. He and his two brothers would travel by train to San Diego, California to visit their Uncle John and Aunt Hulda. John graduated from Gypsum Rural High School and was in the class of 1950. The Fritz family attended the United Methodist Church, John was baptized as a youth. He later was baptized in believers’ faith at the First Baptist Church in Carlton, Ks. John went into the Army in 1953 and was discharged in 1955. During his time in the Army, he spent his time training and being the camp cook. 

On September 21, 1956, he married Luetta M. Everhart, and they were blessed with their first born in 1958, son John K. Fritz Jr. (Cindy). The marriage was blessed with another son Jeffery (Cindy) in 1960, two daughters Dayna Spies in 1962, and Diana (Kent) Sutton in 1963. The blessing continued with 28 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. 

John sat on the Gypsum city council from 1967 to 1971. On May 11th, 1981, he resigned as Mayor of Gypsum. At the time of his retirement he had worked at Frisbie Const Co Inc for 39 years as a laborer, Superintendent and Purchasing Agent. He enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing, snow skiing, billiards, playing softball and playing a round of golf. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law Kirk Heigele, son Jeffery and two grandsons Nathan and Jonathan Sutton.  There were much more adventures in John’s life to be mentioned but with all that being said, John was a Father, Grandfather, Great-Grand Father, Employee and Civil Servant. He will be greatly missed. 

Visitation will be Friday, March 31 at Ryan Mortuary from 4-8 pm. Service will be 10 am Saturday, April 1, 2023 at First Baptist Church Salina. Burial will follow at the Gypsum City Cemetery, Gypsum, Ks. Memorials may be made to the church and sent in care of Ryan Mortuary. DOWNS — Eugene “Gene” Wagner passed away Saturday, March 25, 2023.&nbsp; He was born September 24, 1933 to Frank and Philomena (Gradig) Wagner on a farm south of Downs.

He is preceded in death by his sisters; Leona Budke and Loretta Eilert and&nbsp; grandson, Justin Wagner.

Eugene 'Gene' Wagner

Alice Marie (McAnulty) Johnson, 87, of McPherson, KS and formerly of Canton, KS, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 27, 2023, with family by her side at McPherson Hospital.

Alice was born on April 21, 1935, in McPherson, KS, the daughter of Raymond and Mary (Marquis) McAnulty.&nbsp; After her junior year at McPherson High School, her dad moved the family to Newcastle, Wyoming, where Alice’s mother grew up.&nbsp; She graduated from Newcastle High School.&nbsp;

On October 9, 1953, Alice was united in marriage to William “Bill” L. Johnson at the Trinity Lutheran Church, McPherson.&nbsp; This union was blessed with three children, Steven, Gary, and Janet.&nbsp; Bill preceded her in death on September 25, 2005.

She was a dedicated member at Trinity Lutheran Church, McPherson, and sang in the church choir.&nbsp; She participated in the Messiah Oratorio in Lindsborg which included a performance at Carnegie Hall in New York City.&nbsp; She also served on the board at Bethany Home.&nbsp;

Along with being a housewife, Alice worked at Alliance Life Insurance Company and retired from Sterling Drug where she was a line supervisor and group leader.&nbsp; She was a devoted mother and grandmother.&nbsp; She was a seamstress, often tailoring her own clothing and making shirts for her husband and boys and clothing for Janet. She always had a big vegetable garden and did lots of canning.&nbsp; She even made and canned her own mincemeat for pies.&nbsp; She also enjoyed working in her flower beds and going fishing. She refinished all of her antique furniture.&nbsp; In 1999, she and Bill built their dream&nbsp; home in the country on some property they purchased after retirement.&nbsp; After Bill’s passing, Alice remained in her country home for over 15 years and continued helping on the farm.

Survivors include: three children, Steve Johnson and wife, Pat, of McPherson, KS, Gary Johnson of McPherson, KS, and Janet Ortman and husband, Dale, of Moundridge, KS; five grandchildren, Shaun Ortman (Kaitlen), Sara Ortman Smoker (Jason), Parker Johnson (Andrea), Brennan Johnson, and Kolbie Johnson Jacoby (John); ten great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Mary McAnulty; husband, Bill Johnson; sister, Phyllis Russell; and brother-in-law, Charles Russell.

Alice Marie (McAnulty) Johnson

Joann Marie (Huss) Malone, 93, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2023, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

Joann was born December 21, 1929, on the family farm 5 miles west of Herndon, Kansas.&nbsp; She was one of eight children born to John and Emma (Keplinger) Huss.&nbsp; She attended over eight years in rural country schools.&nbsp; She was a graduate of Herndon High School in the Class of ‘47.

Joann was united in marriage to John H. Leitner on June 19, 1948.&nbsp; This union was blessed with a son Bruce.&nbsp; They divorced, and later she met and was united in marriage to Francis Gerald “Tim” Malone on November 28, 1950.&nbsp; This union was blessed with five children: Jerry, Rosalie, Nancy, John, and James.&nbsp; They made their home in Herndon.&nbsp; Tim preceded her in death on September 28, 1986.

Joann was a devoted wife and homemaker for her children.&nbsp; Early in life, she worked in the post office in Herndon. While her boys were in college, she worked for the local IGA Grocery store in Herndon and for Gwen’s Plumbing &amp; Heating in Oberlin.&nbsp; She was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Christians Mothers in Herndon, KS.&nbsp; Upon moving to Russell in 2002, she was an active parishioner of St. Mary’s Queen of Angels Catholic Church and the Russell Council of Catholic Women.&nbsp; She enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle, square dancing and was a proud member of the Shooting Stars Dance Club.&nbsp; She loved her family and friends but her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the apple of her eye.

Joann’s surviving family include her two daughters, Rosalie Wilkinson (Brad) of Chanute, Kansas, and Nancy Malone of Muskogee, Oklahoma; three sons, Bruce Leitner of Oxford, Georgia, John Malone of Russell, Kansas, and James Malone (Jamie) of Russell, Kansas; ten grandchildren, David Leitner (Audrey) of Conyer, Georgia, Rory Leitner of Germany, Quenton Wynn of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, Jill Henning (Mark) of Naperville, Illinois, James Wynn (Vanessa) of Norman, Oklahoma, Kayla Newman (Todd) of Chanute, Kansas, Randee Olive of Andover, Kansas, Joanna Orschelen (Billy) of Prairie Village, Kansas, Megan Wynn-Jasso (Marco) of Dallas, Texas and Juliana Willis (Ryan) of Overland Park, Kansas; and 18 great grandchildren.

Joann was preceded in death by her parents; husband Tim; three brothers, Donald Huss, John Huss Jr., and Larry Huss; four sisters, Marion Huss, Emalou Sattler, Madonna Anderson and Celene Dunker; and her son Jerry Malone.

Leitner on June 19, 1948.&nbsp; This union was blessed with a son Bruce.&nbsp; They divorced, and later she met and was united in marriage to Francis Gerald “Tim” Malone on November 28, 1950.&nbsp; This union was blessed with five children: Jerry, Rosalie, Nancy, John, and James.&nbsp; They made their home in Herndon.&nbsp; Tim preceded her in death on September 28, 1986.Joann was a devoted wife and homemaker for her children.&nbsp; Early in life, she worked in the post office in Herndon. Joann Marie (Huss) Malone

Laura Janene Woodbury, 89, passed away 
peacefully on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at Vista Springs Trillium 
Village in Clarkston, Michigan. She was born on August 10, 1933, in 
Leoti, Kansas, to Albert Clark and Laura (Wikoff) Clark.&nbsp;

She was a wonderful homemaker, loving mother, dedicated wife, and 
diligent bookkeeper of the family business. She loved gardening, 
interior design, decorating, entertaining, tole painting and crafting, 
and mystery shows and movies. She was an active member of the Leoti 
Methodist Church for over 50 years, teaching Sunday School, being 
involved with the United Methodist Women, and the Care Committee. After 
high school, Janene attended Denver Art School for a semester. In 1982, 
she graduated from Kansas School of Floral Design.&nbsp;The 
project she was most passionate about was being on the Wichita County 
History Book Committee in 1999, assisting in the writing and production 
of Volume II of the Wichita County History Book.&nbsp;

Janene met Marshall Young Woodbury in high school, and the two were 
married on February 17, 1952. They would go on to be married for 69 
years. They were blessed with two daughters: Lora JaLue (Smith), and 
Lisa Sue (Cooley). After living in Wichita County for 65 years and 
retiring from farming, Janene and Marshall decided to move to Salina, 
Kansas, to be near JaLue and her family. They also enjoyed spending 
winters in Arizona for over 30 years.&nbsp;&nbsp;After Marshall was called Home in
 2021, Janene moved to Clarkston, Michigan to be near Lisa and her 
family.&nbsp;

Janene is survived by her two daughters: JaLue of Salina, Kansas, and
 Lisa of Clarkston, Michigan; six grandchildren, and seven 
great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Marshall, 
and her sister, Marianne Stuart.&nbsp;

Memorial services will be held at the United Methodist Church in 
Leoti, Kansas at 10:30am Wednesday, April 5, 2023, with pastor Steve 
Payne presiding. &nbsp;There will be a luncheon at the church following 
graveside services at the Leoti Cemetery.&nbsp;

Laura Janene Woodbury

James Willis Feil, 67, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Friday, March 
24, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer with his loving family by
 his side.

James was born July 4, 1955, in Stockton, Kansas.&nbsp; He was the son of 
Willis Leo and Georgia Marie (Mai) Feil.&nbsp; He grew up in Russell and 
graduated from Russell High School in the Class of '73.&nbsp; He then attended
 Kansas University for a year before transferring to Fort Hays State 
University, where he graduated with a degree in Accounting.

James met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Jaci L. Beeman 
on June 7, 1980.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two children; Ryan and 
Lindsay.&nbsp; They made their home in Russell.

James was an Insurance Agent and Russell office manager for United 
Services Agency, later becoming Insurance Planning, Inc. for 25 years 
retiring in 2019.&nbsp; When he was younger, he was a roustabout and later a 
pumper for Fina Oil.&nbsp; He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.&nbsp; He 
was a handyman, jack of all trades, and could fix anything.&nbsp; He enjoyed 
watching KU Basketball and spending time with family and friends at the 
lake or at the pool.&nbsp;

James’ surviving family include his wife of 42 years, Jaci of the 
home; daughter, Lindsay Homeier (Bobby) of Great Bend, Kansas; son, Ryan
 Feil (Erica) of Russell, Kansas; brothers, Bob Feil (Tracy) of 
Marshalltown, Iowa and Alan Feil of Salina, Kansas; three grandchildren,
 Bryson Feil, Lawson Feil and Jayde Feil; niece, Jessica Dumler of 
Topeka, Kansas and nephews, Chris Feil of Salina, Kansas and Kellin Feil
 of Newton, Kansas; and many friends.

James was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.

Harold Gene Mosher, 90, of Russell, Kansas, died on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at his home in Russell.

Gene was born on May 7, 1932, in Lawrenceburg, Kansas, near Concordia, Kansas, the son of William and Lula (Wineger) Mosher. &nbsp;He grew up in the Concordia area and graduated from the local high school. &nbsp;He met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Joan Mary Starkey on July 28, 1950, in Concordia. &nbsp;From this union, Gene and Joan were blessed with a daughter Margaret. &nbsp;They moved to the Russell area in 1966, when Gene went to work for United Telephone. &nbsp;Gene worked for United Telephone, later purchased by Sprint, for 36 years. &nbsp;He enjoyed woodworking, tinkering in his shop&nbsp;and working around the house&nbsp;and in his yard.&nbsp;&nbsp;Most of all he enjoyed spending quiet time with his wife at home.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He is survived by many nieces and nephews. &nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Joan on October 1, 2020, his daughter Margaret&nbsp;on December 22, 2021,&nbsp;and 2 brothers and 3 sisters.

Cremation was selected by Gene and Joan and their wishes were to have no funeral service ceremony. &nbsp;Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the cremation service arrangements.

Funeral services for Polly Deloris Smith, age 83, of Abilene will be 3:00 pm Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at the Abilene Cemetery with Pastors Matthew Davis and Dale Engle officiating. Polly passed away Sunday, March 26, 2023 at Valley View Senior Life in Junction City, Kansas. She was born May 5, 1939 in Eastland, Texas the daughter of John William and Melissa (Gilbert) Pool. She grew to adulthood near Palisade, Colorado, graduating from Palisade High School in 1957. She continued her education completing her training as a beautician. She worked in this profession for a period of time followed by an office job at the State Home and Training School for adults who were mentally challenged. Polly then followed her sister to Pasadena, California to attend Pasadena College followed by working for a doctor’s answering service. She then spent 36 years working for Los Angeles County as a clerk in the Department of County Assessors. After retiring she returned to work part time at the same department. She was married to Ronnie Smith for a period of time. They later divorced. Her favorite vacation spot was her yearly trip to Branson, Missouri where she enjoyed many of the shows, especially Pierce Arrow. When her health started to fail she moved to Abilene to be near her sister Mollie Zook. Other survivors include her niece Karen Corl and nephew Kenneth Zook. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert Dyer, and her brother-in-law Lyle Zook. Polly attended the Abilene Brethren In Christ Church as long as her health allowed. She became a resident of Valley View in 2013. She enjoyed the many activities that were provided. Polly Deloris Smith

John V. Comerford, 72, passed unexpectedly the morning of March 15, 2023 during his daily morning run with his dog. He was born November 1, 1950 in Hendricks, Minnesota the son of Vincent Comerford and Delores (Lozinski) Comerford.

John graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Salina, Kansas, Class of 1968. John attended Kansas Wesleyan University before transferring to Fort Hays State University where he completed his Bachelor’s degree in History and his Master’s degree in Business. John met his wife Jeanie Slaughter while living in Hays, Kansas. The two married on August 2, 1975.

John’s professional career in retail management and human resources took his family to Idaho (Boise), Nevada (Elko, Reno, &amp; Las Vegas), and Utah (Sandy). John and Jeanie returned to the Boise area settling in Meridian, Idaho in 1999. During the last 8 years John blended his passion of dogs and business together owning and operating a mobile pet grooming business in Boise.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Sharon (Comerford) Santry. Surviving in addition to his wife Jeanie Comerford are his sons, Patrick Comerford and his wife, Tiffany, of Riverton, Utah, and Chris Comerford and his wife, Kristin, of Sacramento, California; three grandchildren, Charlotte (Charlie) Comerford, Jeanie (Jane) Comerford, and Jackson Comerford; one brother Pat Comerford, of Salina, Kansas; and nephews Aaron Santry and Nathan Santry.

John will be greatly missed. A memorial gathering is being planned for a later date. The family has heard incredible stories about John since his passing and would like to remember John by collecting stories about him from over the years.

The two married on August 2, 1975.John’s professional career in retail management and human resources took his family to Idaho (Boise), Nevada (Elko, Reno, &amp; Las Vegas), and Utah (Sandy). John and Jeanie returned to the Boise area settling in Meridian, Idaho in 1999. During the last 8 years John blended his passion of dogs and business together owning and operating a mobile pet grooming business in Boise.In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Sharon (Comerford) Santry. Surviving in addition to his wife Jeanie Comerford are his sons, Patrick Comerford and his wife, Tiffany, of Riverton, Utah, and Chris Comerford and his wife, Kristin, of Sacramento, California; three grandchildren, Charlotte (Charlie) Comerford, Jeanie (Jane) Comerford, and Jackson Comerford; one brother Pat Comerford, of Salina, Kansas; and nephews Aaron Santry and Nathan Santry.John will be greatly missed. A memorial gathering is being planned for a later date. The family has heard incredible stories about John since his passing and would like to remember John by collecting stories about him from over the years.Those who wish to remember John in a special way may make gifts in his memory to Freedom Bound Hounds (<a href="https://freedomboundhounds.com">https://freedomboundhounds.com</a>), a non-profit dedicated to saving rescue dogs and placing them in new homes in the Pacific Northwest.
