Geneva Mae Turnquist, 94, of Lindsborg, KS, peacefully passed away on Monday, October 9, 2023, surrounded by family at Brookdale Senior Assisted Living, Salina. Geneva was a homemaker, partner in the family farming operation, census worker, and election worker.
Geneva was born on July 15, 1929, on the family farm in McPherson, KS, the daughter of Bernard G. and Clara S. (Nelson) Schafer. She graduated from McPherson High School. On October 2, 1948, Geneva was united in marriage to Donald Herman Turnquist in McPherson, KS. This union was blessed with four children, Steve, Larry, Bryce, and Donna. Geneva and Don were married for 73 years before his passing on March 9, 2022.
She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Lindsborg, UMW, and served on several committees.
Survivors include: four children, Steven (Michele) Turnquist of Austin, TX, Larry (Kathy) Turnquist of Salina, KS, Bryce (Patty) Turnquist of Lindsborg, KS, and Donna (Emery) Wiens of Topeka, KS; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Bernadine Swanson, and brother, Bernard Schafer.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at Trinity United Methodist Church, Lindsborg. The final resting place will be in the Freemount Lutheran Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Trinity United Methodist Church, Lindsborg in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.
