Spectra’s 'Together AGAIN!' plan outlines operational updates, new policies to safeguard employees, guests, and performers/athletes 

Tony’s Pizza Events Center today introduced its all-inclusive reopening plan, which is a blueprint of best practices, policies, and procedures the venue has put in place prior to welcoming back guests.

The “Together AGAIN!” custom reopening strategy was created using industry standards and recommendations; directives from local, state, and federal governments; guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and health departments; and expertise from Spectra’s leaders and subject matter experts.

In accordance with Saline County’s reopening plan, the Tony’s Pizza Events Center’s first scheduled event will be services for The Ark Church, inside Great Plains Manufacturing Convention Hall on Sunday.

Below are some examples of steps Tony’s Pizza Events Center is taking to keep its guests &amp; staff safe:

• All staff members, vendors, performers and/or athletes will be temperature checked before being allowed to enter the building.

• All staff members will wear masks or face shields during events.

• Thorough disinfection of facility before and after events.

• We have developed seating maps with social distancing spacing in case these are required by a promoter or health advisories that may be active at the time of on-sale.

“We approached the reopening strategy through the lens of our guests, thinking about their full experience from the time they purchase their ticket to when they pull out of the parking lot to head home,” Susan Trafton, Spectra’s general manager at Tony’s Pizza Events Center, said. “We want our guests and our employees alike to know that every precautionary measure we’ve implemented is to ensure their health and safety while they are at the Tony’s Pizza Events Center. We want our guests to have an enjoyable, straightforward, familiar—and above all, safe—experience.”

In accordance with the guidance and recommendations set forth by the CDC and local health officials, we respectfully request that the following guests not attend events at Tony's Pizza Events Center:

• Guests who are feeling sick or experiencing cold or flu-like symptoms (including fever, cough and shortness of breath);

• Guests who have been diagnosed with, or believe to have contracted, COVID-19, unless no fever has been present for 72 hours (without use of medicine) and 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared;

• Guests who have been in contact with an individual diagnosed with COVID-19 within the past 14 days; and

• Guests who have traveled internationally in the past 14 days.

"The McPherson County Health Department is investigating an exposure at Hank’s Place, 217 North Ash Street in McPherson. If you were at Hank’s Place on Tuesday, June 16, 2020, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., you may have been exposed to COVID-19. Please call

Kansas Wesleyan University has announced that it will re-open the track on Graves Family Sports Complex to the community, effective Monday.&nbsp;

The announcement comes as Saline County continues to move forward in the Ad Astra re-opening plan, moving to the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.saline.org/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=xE-4zngF85c%3d&amp;tabid=239&amp;portalid=0">"Phase Out" phase&nbsp;</a>announced Thursday by the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.saline.org/Departments/Health-Department">Saline County Health Department</a>.

In the interest of facility security, the track at GFSC will be open for public use daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Individuals are asked to abide by all signage, socially distance whenever possible, and honor any requests of KWU employees, in order to protect all who wish to use the facility.

KWU will be observing cleanliness and sanitation guidelines as set forth by the Saline County Health Department to ensure the facility is safe for use.

"We're pleased to announce that GFSC can once again be used by community members," said Steve Wilson, KWU director of athletics. "We recognize that this is an important location for a key group in our community, and we're glad to welcome outside individuals once again."

Crimestoppers seeks tips on use of stolen EBT card

CONCORDIA -- Cloud County Community College will resume on-campus classes on Aug. 19, and will finish the fall semester online following Thanksgiving break.

The August date is the original start date of the 2020-2021 academic calendar. Neither the start date nor end date is changing for the fall term. The last day of fall classes will be Dec. 4 and final exams are scheduled for the week of Dec. 7-10.

The last day for on-campus classes will be Nov. 24, before the traditional Thanksgiving holiday break.

“We plan to halt face-to-face courses at Thanksgiving and move to remote instruction for the last week of classes and finals week,” said Pedro Leite, vice president for academic affairs and student success. “Our goal is to limit the number of times our students are leaving campus and returning, and therefore limit the potential spread of COVID-19.”

The college has worked with task forces from across campus to develop plans that focus on a healthy and safe environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors returning to campus.

The fall semester will begin with fewer students living in the residence halls. Rather than the full capacity of 313, 271 students will be able to live on campus. There will be limitations on common spaces in housing, as well as additional health and safety measures put in place in the T-Bird Café.

Tables and chairs inside the T-Bird Café will be reduced to accommodate social distancing requirements, and a new grab-and-go menu will be available to students.

CCCC fall classes to resume on campus Aug. 19

A longtime downtown Salina store had a large window busted out by multiple shots Thursday night.

According to Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester, someone driving on Santa Fe Avenue at approximately 10:30 p.m. Thursday noticed that a west window at The Market Shop, 101 South Santa Fe Avenue, had been broken.

It appeared that the 78-inch by 82-inch window had been shot multiple times by a BB gun or pellet gun, Forrester said. The impact caused the glass to fall inside the store, knocking several items to the floor, he explained. Damage was estimated at $2,000, Forrester said.

Police are checking area surveillance video, he added.

Downtown business loses window to multiple shots

A Lindsborg woman was killed in a two-vehicle accident in southern Saline County Thursday night.

Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan said this morning that a 2014 Dodge Ram three-quarter-ton pickup driven by Eric Blomquist, 54, of Assaria, was eastbound in the 500 block of East Salemsborg Road when a 1998 Honda Accord driven by Elizabeth Scott, 39, of Lindsborg, pulled out from a private drive in front of the pickup. 

The pickup was not able to stop in time and struck the Accord on the driver's side, Soldan said. The accident occurred shortly after 8:30 p.m. Thursday, he said.

Scott was pronounced dead at the scene, Soldan said.

Salina USD 305 and NEA-Salina each presented their opening proposals identifying changes to the Negotiated Agreement for the 2020-2021 school year.

NEA-Salina proposed amendments to the agreement regarding procedures related to safety and equity concerns, plan-time, employee leave for illness and disability, as well as benefits. USD 305 presented a salary schedule change and increases to teacher compensation, as well as the addition of parental leave-time and calendar changes.

Both parties agreed to review the proposals which will be discussed at their next negotiations session on July 1 at 10 a.m. in the Board of Education Office.

Temperatures will be noticeably less hot today thanks to mostly cloudy skies and scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms around.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Wichita, occasional thunderstorms will continue this morning across central and south-central Kansas, potentially lingering into the afternoon hours. At this time, the threat of severe weather looks low, however, wind gusts to 45 mph and nuisance flooding will be possible, NWS noted.

Additional thunderstorms are possible tonight areawide, but once again the threat of severe weather looks low.

Multiple rounds of thunderstorms are expected over the weekend, potentially continuing into next week. At this time, the greatest risk of severe weather looks to be Sunday afternoon through Sunday night, with lower confidence beyond that time, NWS explained.

As of now, Father's Day looks to start out dry and very warm. By late in the day, the risk of thunderstorms may increase, especially across central Kansas, NWS reported. By the evening and overnight hours, that risk will expand east into parts of southern and eastern Kansas. Severe weather will be possible with this activity, so stay tuned for updates.

At this time, the threat of severe weather looks low, however, wind gusts to 45 mph and nuisance flooding will be possible, NWS noted.Additional thunderstorms are possible tonight areawide, but once again the threat of severe weather looks low.Multiple rounds of thunderstorms are expected over the weekend, potentially continuing into next week. At this time, the greatest risk of severe weather looks to be Sunday afternoon through Sunday night, with lower confidence beyond that time, NWS explained.<figure>

CONCORDIA -- Fresenius Kidney Care has informed Cloud County Health Center that it will not to move its dialysis center into the new hospital facility under construction and will cease operations in early 2022.

Fresenius Kidney Care currently leases space at 1100 Highland Drive in a building that is scheduled to be torn down at the end of the lease. While the Health Center had allotted space for a clinic in the plans for the upcoming facility, the company informed Cloud County Health

Center that its dialysis center is not financially sustainable.

“While we are disappointed to learn that Fresenius Kidney Care will not be moving into our new facility, they have pledged to ensure their patients have the support and time needed to find another option that works with their schedule,” said David Garnas, of Cloud County Health Center. “Government insurance reimburses dialysis providers below the actual cost to provide treatment, forcing providers to rely on a mix of privately-insured patients. This issue unfortunately affects rural areas like Concordia, where patients have fewer options for care.”

Over the next year, staff at Fresenius Kidney Care Concordia, which currently treats 16 patients, will work with each patient and their nephrologist to ensure seamless continuation of treatment, either with another Fresenius Kidney Care clinic, another dialysis center in the area, or the option to dialyze at home.

Dialysis is a treatment for kidney failure that rids the body of unwanted toxins, waste products, and excess fluids by filtering the blood, essentially replacing some of the lost kidney function.

When kidneys fail, they are no longer able to filter the blood. Patients must either receive a kidney transplant, perform their dialysis treatments at home, or receive in center dialysis treatment three times a week.

Many experts agree that home dialysis—either peritoneal or hemodialysis—is the best option aside from transplant for treating kidney failure. Choosing home dialysis can mean fewer food restrictions, greater scheduling flexibility, less frequent transportation challenges, and better outcomes. This move toward home therapy reflects a national trend, aligning with the administration’s recent executive order to increase access to home dialysis, which so often is the best treatment for patients, empowering them to participate in their own care in the comfort of their homes.

Whatever treatment option you choose, it is important to know if you are getting the right amount of dialysis. Tests should be done regularly to check the amount of dialysis you receive.

Prizes $600 to $5,000 are typically paid the same day, whereas prizes of $5,001 or larger have a seven- to 10-day processing time. Winners of $5,001 or more may choose direct deposit, and must bring bank documentation, like a voided check, with them to their appointment. Otherwise, the prize will be delivered through certified mail.

Appointments will occur every 30 minutes, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Central Time, to maintain separation of players and to allow for sanitizing of surfaces between appointments. LINDSBORG -- Dr. Adam Pryor, dean of academic affairs and associate professor of religion, has been promoted to the role of vice president for academic and student affairs.

Pryor started working at Bethany College in 2013 as an assistant professor in the religion department. He previously supervised the Center of Discovery, Reflection, and Vocation from 2014-2017, served as the director of CORE Education from 2017-2019, and started as the dean of academic affairs for student success in 2019. Throughout his time at Bethany College, he has also been an active researcher serving in various capacities as a member of the American Academy of Religion and the North American Paul Tillich Society.

"I am so happy that Dr. Pryor has agreed to join my leadership team. Over the past two years, I have appreciated his dedication to our students and to Bethany,” said Interim President Elizabeth Mauch.

Pryor is “excited to experience how working in both academic and student affairs can create new relationships across campus.” He looks forward to intentional collaboration with colleagues across campus about how best to connect student co-curricular activities with what goes on in the classroom. Pryor will continue teaching as an associate professor of religion.

Pryor resides in Lindsborg with his wife Rachael, who is an ordained minister, and their three children. He and his family are members of Andover Lutheran Church where Rachael currently serves as the pastor.

Storms have started firing up in north-central Kansas this evening.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Wichita, strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible along a cold front this evening into the overnight hours, especially over central and northeast Kansas. The main hazards will be hail up to quarter size and damaging downburst winds up to 60 mph, NWS noted.

Scattered storms will be possible on Friday with storms becoming more widespread Friday night into Saturday morning, especially for northern Kansas. Nickel size hail and 50 to 55 mph winds will be possible, NWS reported.
