Rolling Hills Zoo honored with prestigious award for achieving high levels of animal welfare safety and conservation programs

The preliminary hearing has been rescheduled for the case of <a href="https://salinapost.com/posts/3e716804-4732-43e4-a3cf-086e2bdc9859">Kayla Errebo</a> (32), who is currently being charged with 2nd-degree murder.&nbsp;

According to Noah Morgan from the Saline County Attorney's office, the preliminary hearing that was set to occur on Friday, August 22nd has been rescheduled.

Morgan said this decision was made due to Errebo's attorney, who stated they needed "more time for evidence."

The rescheduled preliminary hearing date is set for&nbsp;Tuesday, October 21st&nbsp;at&nbsp;9:00 am&nbsp;inside the&nbsp;City of Salina-Saline County building (300 W Ash St), Room 301.

Errebo was arrested back on Friday, August 8th for a <a href="https://salinapost.com/posts/3e716804-4732-43e4-a3cf-086e2bdc9859">head-on collision</a> into Mark Sommerfeld (61) and Deanna Sommerfeld (55) on a rural Saline County road.&nbsp;Errebo was not at the scene of the crash, but deputies located her at an address in Ellsworth.&nbsp;

UPDATE: Fatal crash suspect's preliminary hearing date rescheduled for October

Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of Commerce David Toland announced a new round of funding totaling $341,000 is available through the Strategic Economic Expansion and Development (SEED) grant program. Now entering its fourth round, the SEED initiative continues to support economic development and quality-of-life improvements in Kansas’ smallest communities.

“Having strong communities is what draws families, businesses and travelers to our state,”&nbsp;Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of Commerce David Toland said. “SEED funding empowers local leaders to invest in amenities that make their towns stand out — creating communities where businesses grow, families settle down, and visitors seek out as their next destination.”

Administered by the Kansas Department of Commerce, SEED grants are available to communities in 78 eligible counties, with populations of 5,000 or fewer. Grants of up to $25,000 will be awarded in the following categories:

Eligible applicants include local governments, economic development organizations, chambers of commerce and other community-based organizations in towns that have not received a SEED grant in the past year.

A 10% local match is required, and all funded projects must be completed within 12 months of receiving grant funds. Grants will be distributed in two installments: half at the start of the grant cycle and the remainder upon project completion.

SEED grant applications will open Friday, August 29, and close at 11:59 pm Tuesday, October 28. Grant awardees will be announced in December.

Commerce Secretary announces open applications for funding of over $300,000 to Kansas small communities 

On Friday, Governor Laura Kelly has directed for flags be lowered to half-staff at the State Capitol Complex and all court buildings and facilities to honor 18th&nbsp;Judicial District Division 10 Judge Bruce Brown.

“Judge Brown had a long career of service to his community and commitment throughout his tenure on the bench,”&nbsp;Governor Laura Kelly said. “On behalf of the State of Kansas, I thank him for his dedication to upholding the law. My sincere condolences go out to his family and friends.”

Judge Brown passed away on Thursday, August 21 and flags will remain half-staff until he is interred.

According to a biography from the <a href="https://www.dc18.org/division-10">18th Judicial District Court</a>, Judge Brown started his career as an Assistant D.A. in Woodward, OK from 1986-1987. In 1987 he went to work as an Assistant D.A. in Tulsa, OK until 1988. He worked as an Attorney for Pray, Walker, Jackman, et, al., in Tulsa, OK in 1989.

In 1990 Judge Brown worked as an Attorney for the U.S. Army JAG Corps until he became a Prosecutor for the Salina Municipal Court in 1994. 1995 saw Judge Brown become a prosecutor for the Wichita Municipal Court until 1997, where he became a Judge of the Wichita Municipal Court serving until 2009.&nbsp; 

Judge Brown received his undergraduate degree from ORU receiving his B.A in 1983&nbsp;and his Juris Doctorate from the Pepperdine University School of Law in 1986.

Governor directs flags lowered at half-staff in honor of Judge Bruce Brown, date TBA

As the anticipation continues to boil for updates on the current lawsuit the <a href="https://salinapost.com/posts/fc7ed532-a1ba-46b6-85c3-4ed867abb15a">Cozy Inn filed against the City of Salina</a>, the bench trial set for October 7 is reportedly canceled and an in-person status conference has been scheduled.

According to a docket entry from the United States District Court District of Kansas, on Thursday, August 21, both the Cozy Inn and the City of Salina participated in a telephone conference regarding the formerly scheduled bench trial for October 7.&nbsp;

The attorneys representing Cozy Inn during this conference was&nbsp;Samuel MacRoberts and Jeffrey Shaw. Attorneys representing the City of Salina was&nbsp;Todd Messenger, Amanda Jokerst and Aaron Martin.

As stated in the document, it was determined both parties agreed "that all the issues presented in the parties’ summary judgment papers are legal questions that can be resolved without a trial."

The statement continued stating "the parties’ remaining pretrial obligations are suspended and the current trial setting is cancelled."

Moreover, an&nbsp;in-person status conference is set to occur at 9:00 am on October 22, 2025 to address any remaining claims surviving the anticipated summary judgment ruling.

Attorneys representing the City of Salina was&nbsp;Todd Messenger, Amanda Jokerst and Aaron Martin.As stated in the document, it was determined both parties agreed "that all the issues presented in the parties’ summary judgment papers are legal questions that can be resolved without a trial."The statement continued stating "the parties’ remaining pretrial obligations are suspended and the current trial setting is cancelled."Moreover, an&nbsp;in-person status conference is set to occur at 9:00 am on October 22, 2025 to address any remaining claims surviving the anticipated summary judgment ruling.<figure>

Recent obituaries and service times

No suspects were arrested after two vehicles were reportedly burglarized in Salina.

According to the Salina Police Department (SPD) on Thursday, August 21, two vehicle burglaries were reported to occur between the evening hours of Wednesday, August 20 and into early morning on Thursday.

Reportedly, the first burglary happened in the 1100 block of Harbor. SPD stated an unlocked parked vehicle was burglarized in the driveway of residence in the area. Stolen was a wallet,&nbsp;backpack containing miscellaneous documents and an iPad. Total loss was valued to be over $600.

The second reported burglary occurred in the 1200 block of Nautical. This burglary was to another unlocked parked vehicle in the same area. Stolen was a&nbsp;Playstation 4 and several small hand tools. Total loss was valued at over $300.

SPD confirmed the stolen iPad from the first burglarized vehicle was tracked to be in Lindsborg. The Lindsborg Police Department assisted SPD and located the vehicle to be at an apartment complex in Lindsborg.

No further information was provided and SPD stated they are currently&nbsp; investigating burglaries.

ONGOING INVESTIGATION: No suspects arrested after two vehicles were reportedly burglarized

Salina Police are informing the public and seeking tips about an <a href="https://salinapost.com/posts/9ccf5557-d44c-4c0d-8ae5-0496b27ccd65">armed suspect that robbed a Kwik Shop.</a>

According to the Salina Police Department (SPD) on Friday, August 8 at around 10:30 pm, an armed robbery was reported at Kwik Shop (657 Fairdale). Reportedly, a store clerk was conducting job duties outside of the store, when an armed man demanded money.

The clerk was then forced back into the store, where the suspect stole an undisclosed amount of money before leaving Kwik Shop.

SPD are currently searching the suspect who is described to be about 5'7" and around 180 pounds. 

Surveillance video showed the suspect wearing an all black attire with gloves and a face mask.

Three day weather forecast Salina, August 22 - August 24

Thousands of vehicles will travel the Kansas roadways during the Labor Day weekend. Many families will head out for the long weekend as summer ends and the school year begins. 

"Safe Kids Kansas," which is sponsored by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), State Farm Insurance and the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT), want to encourage families to buckle up and drive safely to protect their most important cargo, their families.

This year, from Monday,&nbsp;August 25 through Sunday, September 7, a safety belt awareness campaign called “Bucks for Buckles” will be held in 41 cities across Kansas. Local volunteers will distribute dollar bills to drivers who have all occupants buckled up securely in their vehicles.

Those riding unrestrained will receive educational materials about the effectiveness of seat belts and child safety seats in saving lives and reducing injuries.

“No one can predict when they will be involved in a motor vehicle crash, yet almost all of us will be involved in a crash in our lifetime. In 2024, 339 people lost their lives on Kansas roadways, and approximately 30 percent were unbuckled,”&nbsp;Cherie Sage, State Director for Safe Kids Kansas, said.&nbsp;“The single most effective means of protecting the lives of you and your passengers is wearing seat belts and using appropriate child safety seats every time you ride in the vehicle – even short distances.”

According to the 2023 National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Seat Belt Use Survey, 85 percent of Kansans surveyed were wearing their seat belts,, compared to the national average of 90 percent.&nbsp;Kansas saw a nearly 2 percent decline in seat belt usage from 2022 to 2023. Seat belts save more than 15,000 lives yearly and are the best defense against drunk, aggressive and distracted drivers.

“Seat belts reduce your chances of serious injury from a vehicle crash by as much as 50 percent,”&nbsp;Sage said. “It’s such a simple thing, so take your life into your own hands and buckle up.”

"Safe Kids Kansas": Bucks rewarded to drivers who buckle up

Kansas Wesleyan’s endowment reached a historic financial milestone in recent weeks as it surpassed the $50 million mark for the first time in school history. The endowment, which provides a cornerstone of long-term stability for the institution, has more than doubled in the past decade and increased by more than $20 million since 2018.&nbsp;

“The KWU community continues to propel us to incredible heights,” said Dr. Matt Thompson, KWU president. “Ten years ago, this would have been difficult to fathom, but here we are! Reaching the $50 million level in our endowment provides us with a platform, a marker, that everyone can see — Kansas Wesleyan University is ready for the next chapter, the next steps and to lead this community into the future.”

Recent increases in the endowment are part of the Power of AND campaign, which is approaching $50 million, as well. The campaign has been crucial in sweeping improvements across campus, including new student housing (Coyote Village), new academic facilities (Bieber Hall, Nursing Education, Jack Wilson Criminal Justice labs) and the renovation of Sams Chapel, as well as the Bieber Dining Hall project.&nbsp;

“This is a tremendous moment for our institution,” said Ken Oliver, KWU executive vice president and foundation board administrator. “It is an indicator that, in a shifting landscape, our community, alumni and friends value what it means to be a Coyote. This figure is among the top private institutional endowments in the state. We are thankful for every individual, business and partner who has invested time, energy and financial support into helping provide this long-term stability to Kansas Wesleyan.

KWU endowment hits historic $50 million mark for first time

WICHITA - A new book from Wichita State University President Rick Muma, “Student Centered, Innovation Driven,” offers a behind-the-scenes look at the forward-thinking strategies and innovative vision that helped transform a regional institution into a national model of applied learning, industry collaboration and student success.&nbsp;

Published by the University Press of Kansas, Muma’s warts-and-all narrative traces Wichita State’s decade-long evolution, capturing the challenges and pivotal decisions that shaped the university’s trajectory to become a nationwide leader in applied learning, student success, business and industry partnerships and research.&nbsp;&nbsp;

From launching major initiatives like the Innovation Campus and Wichita Biomedical Campus to rethinking how universities align with workforce demands, Muma shares the story of an institution unafraid to challenge convention in pursuit of meaningful impact.&nbsp;

“Wichita State’s transformation didn’t happen overnight,” Muma writes. “It happened because we listened to students, built trust with our community and refused to let outdated systems hold us back.”&nbsp;

WSU President to release book about strategies that produce institutional success

A Miltonvale female was arrested, after she admitted to leaving an elderly woman inside her vehicle for 50 minutes when shopping.

According to the Salina Police Department (SPD) on Wednesday, August 20, at around 5:40 pm, SPD received a report regarding an unresponsive elderly woman sitting inside the passenger seat of a vehicle at the Kohl's parking lot (2580 S 9th St).

Reportedly, an individual noticed the woman in the vehicle and walked over to see if she was okay. The window of the vehicle was down and tried to speak with the woman, who did not respond. The individual then called 9-1-1 and officers, along with EMS immediately arrived to the scene.

SPD stated they identified the woman inside the vehicle, as a 94-year old Miltonvale resident. 

SPD Captain James Feldman said the woman was 'not fully coherent' when EMS was speaking with her. Feldman said the woman had been inside the vehicle for 50 minutes, before authorities arrived.&nbsp;

Officers identified the registered owner of the vehicle as 67-year old, Ava Darlene-Brown from Miltonvale. They found Darlene-Brown, who was shopping inside Kohl's during the investigation.

Darlene-Brown admitted to leaving the 94-year old woman inside the vehicle. It was also determined that Darlene-Brown and the woman are known associates.

Darlene-Brown was arrested for the requested charge of Mistreatment of a Dependent Adult.

The victim was transported by EMS to Salina Regional Health Center for medical treatment.

According to Feldman, the heat index was 93 degrees at the time officers and EMS arrived to the scene.

Cooler temps with isolated storms expected for the weekend in Central Kansas

DICKINSON COUNTY —Law enforcement are investigating two suspects on multiple allegations after a traffic stop in Dickinson County.

Earlier this month a KHP Trooper conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 70 in Dickinson County for speeding, according to a social media report from the KHP Troop C.

During the investigation, the driver was taken into custody for possession of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and transporting an open container of alcohol.

 A vial containing a suspected dose of PCP was also recovered and has been submitted to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation for further analysis. The passenger was arrested on a felony probation violation warrant originating from Kentucky related to stolen property, with nationwide extradition. The KHP did not release the names of the suspects.

Both Taco John's restaurants in Salina are reportedly closing down permanently after confirmation from management.

According to management from both locations on Iron and Riffel, the reason was due to an "ownership decision."&nbsp;

The manager from the Iron location stated they were expecting to close down on Friday, but instead will close 'once they run out of products.'&nbsp;

The Riffel location is permanently closed as of now, as confirmed by the manager.

As Kansas State University fans prepare to cross the Atlantic to watch the 'Cats face off against the Iowa State Cyclones in Dublin's&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/2024/6/13/Ireland2025Tickets">Aer Lingus College Football Classic</a>, a group of K-State business students is heading toward the Emerald Isle with another goal in mind: to partner with Cyclones and Irish professionals in an international business case competition.

Four students from K-State's&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://cba.k-state.edu/">College of Business Administration</a>&nbsp;will represent the university in the Leaders of Tomorrow challenge:

Adam Ackerman, senior in finance,&nbsp;Endicott, New York; Max Kice, senior in entrepreneurship and innovation,&nbsp;Wichita; Kiera Rader, senior in professional strategic selling,&nbsp;Overland Park; and Sara Smith, sophomore in management,&nbsp;Clay Center.

K-State is funding the students' travels, allowing them to focus on the competition instead of worrying about fundraising. The student leaders will also have the opportunity to interact with local Irish businesses and professionals during their trip, making the journey for these Wildcats one of competition, camaraderie and career development.

The competition pairs students from both universities with young professionals from two prominent Irish companies: Eversheds Sunderland and Grant Thornton.

Four teams — each consisting of one K-State student, one Iowa State student and two Irish professionals — will tackle a real-world challenge: developing market strategies for a U.S. agri-food or agri-tech company expanding into Ireland.

Each team must develop a comprehensive market strategy that addresses:

The competition culminates on Thursday, August 21, when the teams will present their strategies in a "Shark Tank" format — 12-minute pitches followed by eight-minute Q&amp;A sessions with industry judges. The winning team will be honored with a trophy presentation on Aviva Field at halftime of the football game on August 23.

Chad Jackson, Jack Vanier director of entrepreneurship at K-State, said the Leaders of Tomorrow experience gives students the chance to apply their business knowledge in a global context as they collaborate with peers and professionals across cultures to solve real-world challenges.

"It's a unique opportunity to engage in global teamwork, strengthen leadership skills and contribute to high-impact strategy work alongside industry leaders in Ireland," Jackson said. "This is a transformative experience that allows our students to lead and learn on an international stage."

Summer preparation: Building international collaboration skills

Throughout the summer, the teams have met virtually to share research, build financial models and prepare their presentations.

Rader has been reviewing relevant case studies, practicing presentations and staying up to date with industry trends in agriculture. Smith's team has been meeting weekly to prep their presentation.

"I hope to create new connections with other students and gain knowledge about international business during the Leaders of Tomorrow challenge," Smith said. "I'm really looking forward to meeting my team in person and getting to see K-State play in Ireland."

Ackerman said he looks forward to seeing how the ideas come together in person and how his team can adapt in a high-stakes, real-time setting. During a recent team meeting, his group had a lively debate about the risks of market saturation in Ireland's mushroom industry.

"It was a great moment where we all brought unique perspectives to the table and challenged each other to think differently," he said. "Experiences like that have shown me the power of cross-cultural collaboration, and I'm excited to continue learning and building those connections in Dublin."

From courses to competition: Academic foundation meets global application

The competition allows students to apply classroom learning in an international context. The Wildcats participating in the Leaders of Tomorrow competition can draw a direct connection from courses they've taken at K-State to the skills they need for this competition and for their futures.

Kice credits his foundational economics classes in the College of Arts and Sciences as being helpful when developing his research on the Irish market, and Ackerman said several College of Business Administration courses have set him up for success in the competition.

"My entrepreneurship courses have taught me how to develop and present strong business ideas, think creatively, and build confidence as a leader," Ackerman said. "My finance capstone, Cases in Finance, helped me approach complex business problems from multiple angles and strengthened my ability to make sound recommendations backed by data. These courses have played a big role in preparing me for this competition."

Rader highlighted how courses like Advanced Selling, Brand Marketing and Leadership Studies have strengthened her communication skills and strategic thinking about positioning and value, crucial abilities for fast-paced, collaborative environments like the Leaders of Tomorrow competition and the business workforce.

Beyond the classroom: Hands-on experience

The students bring a variety of practical experiences to the competition.

Smith and Rader are both members of the&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://cba.k-state.edu/academics/departments/national-strategic-selling-institute/sales-ambassadors.html">Sales Ambassadors</a>&nbsp;organization — a group that assists with the retention and recruitment of K-State sales students and supports the&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://cba.k-state.edu/academics/departments/national-strategic-selling-institute/">National Strategic Selling Institute</a>&nbsp;— and the&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://cba.k-state.edu/academics/departments/national-strategic-selling-institute/sales-team.html">K-State Sales Team</a>, which gives students the opportunity to compete in national sales competitions. These experiences allow students to enhance their skills and begin preparing for a career in any sales organization.

Smith, who's in the second year of her program at K-State, is also a real estate agent with Yellow Brick Realty. She says the experience has increased her sales abilities and analytical thinking.Ackerman and Kice have both gained experience from Wildcat Consulting, a student-run, faculty-led organization that works with small companies and entrepreneurs in Kansas to provide business insights.

"Through Wildcat Consulting, I've worked in small teams to solve real problems for Kansas businesses," Ackerman said. "That experience helped me become a stronger communicator, better teammate and more creative thinker. It also taught me how to manage ambiguity and deliver results on tight timelines, which has been relevant throughout this project."

Dawn Deeter-Schmelz, professor and director of the National Strategic Selling Institute, emphasized the connection between the competition and K-State's experiential learning approach.

"Our students' abilities to compete successfully in a competition such as this are a direct result of the outstanding hands-on learning opportunities provided by K-State's entrepreneurship program and the National Strategic Selling Institute," she said.

Looking ahead: Business and Wildcat pride

Beyond the competition, students anticipate building professional connections and exploring the international industry environment.

"While in Ireland, I plan to explore local businesses and learn more about international markets and cultural business practices," Rader said. "I am also hoping to connect with professionals in my field and use this experience to grow my global perspective — something that complements what I have studied at K-State and where I see my career heading. "This experience represents a unique convergence of academics, athletics and international collaboration, with Wildcat pride spanning both the business competition and the football field. "Outside of the competition, I'm excited to explore Ireland's business landscape and learn more about the agri-food sector from a global perspective," Ackerman said. "I'm also looking forward to cheering on K-State in the football game while we're there. Go 'Cats!"

"My finance capstone, Cases in Finance, helped me approach complex business problems from multiple angles and strengthened my ability to make sound recommendations backed by data. These courses have played a big role in preparing me for this competition."Rader highlighted how courses like Advanced Selling, Brand Marketing and Leadership Studies have strengthened her communication skills and strategic thinking about positioning and value, crucial abilities for fast-paced, collaborative environments like the Leaders of Tomorrow competition and the business workforce.<h2>Beyond the classroom: Hands-on experience</h2>The students bring a variety of practical experiences to the competition.Smith and Rader are both members of the&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://cba.k-state.edu/academics/departments/national-strategic-selling-institute/sales-ambassadors.html">Sales Ambassadors</a>&nbsp;organization — a group that assists with the retention and recruitment of K-State sales students and supports the&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://cba.k-state.edu/academics/departments/national-strategic-selling-institute/">National Strategic Selling Institute</a>&nbsp;— and the&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://cba.k-state.edu/academics/departments/national-strategic-selling-institute/sales-team.html">K-State Sales Team</a>, which gives students the opportunity to compete in national sales competitions. These experiences allow students to enhance their skills and begin preparing for a career in any sales organization.Smith, who's in the second year of her program at K-State, is also a real estate agent with Yellow Brick Realty. She says the experience has increased her sales abilities and analytical thinking.Ackerman and Kice have both gained experience from Wildcat Consulting, a student-run, faculty-led organization that works with small companies and entrepreneurs in Kansas to provide business insights.<figure>

 </figure>"Through Wildcat Consulting, I've worked in small teams to solve real problems for Kansas businesses," Ackerman said. "That experience helped me become a stronger communicator, better teammate and more creative thinker. It also taught me how to manage ambiguity and deliver results on tight timelines, which has been relevant throughout this project."Dawn Deeter-Schmelz, professor and director of the National Strategic Selling Institute, emphasized the connection between the competition and K-State's experiential learning approach."Our students' abilities to compete successfully in a competition such as this are a direct result of the outstanding hands-on learning opportunities provided by K-State's entrepreneurship program and the National Strategic Selling Institute," she said.<h2>Looking ahead: Business and Wildcat pride</h2>Beyond the competition, students anticipate building professional connections and exploring the international industry environment."While in Ireland, I plan to explore local businesses and learn more about international markets and cultural business practices," Rader said. "I am also hoping to connect with professionals in my field and use this experience to grow my global perspective — something that complements what I have studied at K-State and where I see my career heading. "This experience represents a unique convergence of academics, athletics and international collaboration, with Wildcat pride spanning both the business competition and the football field. "Outside of the competition, I'm excited to explore Ireland's business landscape and learn more about the agri-food sector from a global perspective," Ackerman said. "I'm also looking forward to cheering on K-State in the football game while we're there. Four KSU students represent university for international business case competition in Ireland

The Fe For A Cure is one of the biggest, most fun and most affordable races in Salina! This year's race will be held on Saturday, September 20th and will start and finish at Tammy Walker Cancer Center.

The Fe For A Cure 5K race is one of only two running events in Salina that is USATF Certified (Salina Crossroads Marathon is the other certified event). In addition to the 5K a new one mile fun run was added in 2024. It makes the Fe For A Cure Race/Walk an event the entire family can participate in. 

The 5K race will be starting at 8:00 am with the one mile fun run following at 8:10 am Registration is $25.00 for anyone 12 and older and $10.00 for anyone 11 and younger and includes a race t-shirt and breakfast food provided by Salina Regional Health Center Food Services.

Last year's race had a record 834 registered participants.&nbsp;The Fe for a Cure is excited to have runners registered&nbsp;from 38 communities in Kansas and registrations are significantly higher than last year at this time.&nbsp;“This year our theme is ‘Celebrating a Decade of Hope,’” said Marla McElderry, executive director at the Salina Regional Health Foundation. “The support for Fe for a Cure and the Tammy Walker Cancer Center continues to grow, and this event provides incredibly meaningful assistance for area cancer patients who are going through one of the most challenging periods of their lives.”Nearly 6,500 people have participated in the event over the years and the event has raised $321,546 through entry fees and donations. Below are just a few of the ways our fundraising events help support patients at Tammy Walker Cancer Center.<h2>Patient meal program</h2>Patients undergoing long chemotherapy infusions are offered a meal (lunch), Monday thru Thursday. The patient meal program started in November 2022 and over 3800 meals have been served. What an amazing gift to our patients! During the school year the patient meal program provides our Project Search interns the opportunity to learn work skills and business soft-skills with the goal of helping them gain employment. During the summer we have volunteers who help out.<h2>Appearance center</h2>Patients are able to get wigs, hats, scarves, and other items at no cost. Wigs and other items from the appearance center can help empower patients and help them feel more comfortable and confident as well as provide a sense of normalcy during treatment.&nbsp;<h2>Transportation Assistance</h2>Transportation shouldn't be a roadblock to cancer treatment. Our partnership with OCCK allows us to offer transportation services to those who need it at no cost.<h2>Morrison House</h2>The Morrison House is a guest residence for those living outside Salina with a loved one who is a patient at Salina Regional Health Center and outpatients undergoing treatment at the Tammy Walker Cancer Center.<figure>

 </figure><h2>Volunteers needed</h2>Fe for a Cure needs about 90 Road Guard Volunteers to direct participants, cheer on runners and re-route traffic at intersections along the race course. Volunteers will report for duty from 7:30 am to 9:30 am on race day (September 20).
