Salina man accused of DUI after car strikes traffic light

SALINE COUNTY —A Salina man was injured and arrested after an accident just after 10p.m. Tuesday in Saline County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2016 Toyota Avalon driven by  Austin P. Houk, 26, Salina, was westbound on West Iron Avenue. As the car came to North 9th Street, the driver attempted to make a left turn to travel  southbound on North 9th Street. The driver failed to make a proper left  turn and struck the traffic light at the southwest corner of the intersection.

EMS transported Houk to Salina Regional Health Center. A passenger in the car was not injured. Houk was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.  Just before 11:30p.m., police booked Houk into the Saline County Jail on requested charges of DUI; 1st conv; incapable of safely driving and Transporting an open container.  Just before 3:30a.m. Wednesday, Houk met the requirement for bond and is no longer in custody, according to online jail records.
