Severe storms are expected to develop across the central Kansas region Thursday and into early morning Friday.
According to the latest update from the US National Weather Service in Wichita, severe storms are expected to develop across central Kansas Thursday, April 23 with the greatest risk beginning after 4:00 pm and continuing into the overnight hours on Friday, April 24.
Storms are expected to form along a cold front and dryline, bringing the potential for 2 inches of hail, damaging wind gusts of up to 70 mph, heavy rainfall, and a possibility of a few tornadoes (mainly across south-central Kansas into the Flint Hills).
In Salina, thunderstorm chances for Thursday, April 23 have risen over the past few days. April 19 stated a 28% chance and has gone up to now 40%.
While the exact timing and location of storms remains somewhat uncertain, current guidance shows the highest likelihood for severe weather along and east of the I-135 corridor, which includes Saline County.
What You Need To Know:
- Storm development is expected to begin after 4:00 pm, with activity continuing through approximately 2:00 am.
- The strongest storms may produce hail up to 2 inches in diameter and wind gusts between 60 and 70 mph.
- A couple of tornadoes are possible this evening, particularly across central and eastern portions of the region.
