On Monday,&nbsp; the Kansas Department of Transportation will resume resurfacing work on Interstate 135 in Saline County.

Construction crews will be finishing work on the southbound lanes of I-135 as well as completing the final 12 miles of northbound I-135 between the McPherson/Saline County line and the Interstate 70/I-135 junction, beginning with the I-70 ramps and working from W. Schilling Road north to I-70.

During construction, traffic will be reduced to one 16-foot lane at a reduced speed through the work zone. Drivers should expect minimal delays, not exceeding five minutes.&nbsp;

APAC-Kansas Inc. Shears Division of Hutchinson is the prime contractor and has scheduled this $17 million project to now be completed in June 2023, weather permitting.

K-State Salina Purple Egg Hunt and Pancake Feed Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. 2310 Centennial Road

The family-friendly day kicks off with a pancake feed hosted by the K-State Flight Team at 8 a.m. in the Studen Life Center. There is no cost for the pancake feed, but donations are welcome. 

During the morning, a K-State bunny will be available for photos. Festivities continue with more than 2,000 eggs filled with candy and prizes for the hunt beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the UAS Pavillion (look for the large black nets in the middle of campus.) The egg hunt will also feature one golden egg with a special prize for each age category. There is no cost to participate.

Signs will be up around the campus to help visitors find the locations, according to information from K-State Salina.

Salina Parks &amp; Recreation annual Easter Egg Hunt Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. 841 Markley Road

The Salina Parks &amp; Recreation Department is teaming up with the Salina Optimist to host this free event. It is open to children ages 1 to 10! It will be held on Saturday on Field No. 1 of the Berkley Family Recreational Area, 841 Markley Road. The first hunt will begin promptly at 10 a.m. so be there early! The schedule is as follows.

The City of Salina announced today that Salina City Commissioners will meet in two strategic planning sessions in April.

The first session is scheduled for 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday in room 200 of Tony’s Pizza Event Center, 800 The Midway.

The second strategic planning session is scheduled for 9 a.m.-3 p.m.  April 18, also in room 200 at Tony’s Pizza Event Center. 

Both meetings are open to the public. Additionally, members of the public will have opportunities to provide input to commissioners during public forums scheduled for 11:45 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. Friday and 11:45 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. on April 18.

Salina City Commission strategic planning sessions begin Friday

If you have some unused and unneeded prescription drugs that you aren't sure what to do with, the Saline County Sheriff's Office can help.

Sheriff's office personnel will be at multiple locations as a part of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration's (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on April 22, Saline County Sheriff's Lieutenant Sean Kochanowski said this morning. 

According to the DEA website, "The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications."

Sheriff's office personnel will be collecting unused and unneeded prescription drugs from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. April 22 at the following locations, Kochanowski said.

●Salina Regional Health Center, 400 S. Santa Fe Avenue

If you can't make it to one of the drop-off sites that day, you can drop off your unused and unneeded prescription drugs in the lobby of the Saline County Sheriff's Office, 251 N. 10th Street, during regular business hours. Additionally, there also is a collection bin for needles and other sharps in the lobby of the sheriff's office.

Kochanowski said that since Oct. 7, 2013, the sheriff's office has collected 12,998.8 pounds of drugs for safe disposal.

On March 21, 1:11 a.m., officers with the Salina Police Department were dispatched to the Comfort Inn &amp; Suites at 1949 N. Ninth Street, regarding an aggravated burglary.

An employee reported she noticed an individual walking around the hotel lobby. When the employee went to investigate, the person jumped over the counter and began taking cash from the register. The suspect fled the area on foot when confronted by the employee. 

The suspect was wearing a dark-colored camo patterned coat, dark-colored blue jeans, gray gloves, a mask over their face, and gray slip on shoes.

The public event is scheduled for 11 a.m.-1 p.m. April 6 in the Visit Salina Annex of the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce, 120 W. Ash Street.

Participants can learn about some of the work being done to improve the health of Saline County residents, including the four-year $500,000 Pathways to A Healthy Kansas grant initiative that Live Well Saline County received in 2020 that is being managed by the Tammy Walker Cancer Center, Live Well Saline County noted in a news release.

CKF Addiction Treatment is asking members of the public to share their concerns and what they would like to discuss and learn more about during an upcoming forum.

"In an effort to engage and inform our community members of the efforts put forth by varying agencies in the Salina and Saline County area, we will be holding an educational forum to discuss developments in the cross-sections of mental health, substance abuse, criminal justice, and homelessness. This forum is to help facilitate growth, improvement, and change in these areas through discussion with our community members," CKF noted in a news release distributed this morning.

The forum is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. May 3 in the Salina Grace Community Resource Center, 142 S. Seventh Street. The forum is being organized by the CIT Council, a collaboration of local services for mental health, substance use disorder, housing, and criminal justice.

Public input sought prior to multi-faceted forum in May

HAYS –&nbsp;Fort Hays State University's Kansas Academy of Mathematics &amp; Science (KAMS) is offering a STEM Summit beginning June 4 and ending June 6. The summit is open to all incoming 8th, 9th, and 10th-grade students.

Students will work in teams, meet new friends, and perform exciting hands-on experiments that make science, technology, engineering, and math come alive.

Campers will choose from a broad range of activities, including:

●Get ready to be dazzled, challenged, and experience a few booms. Check out some of the best science demonstrations used in teaching. Can you survive the bed-of-nails?

●Use computer-aided design technologies like Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Revit to produce a one-of-a-kind 3-dimensional object. Learn how 3D scanners and virtual reality will impact the engineering design world.

The registration fee is $25, non-refundable for Kansas residents and $100 for non-Kansas residents. The Salina City Commission meeting will begin at 8 a.m. in room 107 of the City-County Building, 300 W. Ash Street, and continue through the day as detailed on their meeting agenda. The city commission will periodically recess for lunch and dinner, as well as to allow for attendance at the memorial service for Salina Fire Department Battalion Chief John Goertzen.

On March 17, at 2:14 a.m., officers with the Salina Police Department were dispatched to Hank’s Tavern at 116 S. Broadway Boulevard, regarding an armed robbery.

An employee told officers they had closed the business when a white male wearing a black hoodie, gray University of Kansas sweat pants, and mask over his face entered the bar. The suspect was armed with a black handgun. The suspect pointed the gun at the employee and asked where the money bag was.

When the suspect located the bag, he fled the area on a bicycle.

Career and Technical Education (CTE) and postsecondary opportunities will be the topic of the next USD 305 SPS Chat.

The public event is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. April 3 at Salina South High School, 730 E. Magnolia Road.

USD 305 Superintendent Linn Exline is scheduled to provide an update about opportunities available to Salina Central and Salina South students.

Additionally, the event will include the following, according to information from USD 305.

●Experiences shared by students currently in CTE programs

●An overview of postsecondary preparation programs

●Hors d’oeuvres prepared by the South High School Culinary Arts Program

Families of students in grades seven and eight and community members are encouraged to attend, the district noted.

"Postsecondary planning is intentional at Salina Public Schools (SPS). Career interests and exploration begins in elementary school. Middle school students create electronic portfolios in Xello that they revisit and refine throughout high school. CTE opportunities include expanded pathways and industry-recognized credential options. State-of-the-art CTE facilities at our high schools include A/V production, construction, culinary arts, drafting, nursing and welding," USD 305 noted in a news release this morning.

By SALINA POST Career and Technical Education (CTE) and postsecondary opportunities will be the topic of the next USD 305 SPS Chat.The public event is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. April 3 at Salina South High School, 730 E. Magnolia Road.USD 305 Superintendent Linn Exline is scheduled to provide an update about opportunities available to Salina Central and Salina South students.Additionally, the event will include the following, according to information from USD 305.●Experiences shared by students currently in CTE programs●An overview of postsecondary preparation programs●Hors d’oeuvres prepared by the South High School Culinary Arts ProgramFamilies of students in grades seven and eight and community members are encouraged to attend, the district noted."Postsecondary planning is intentional at Salina Public Schools (SPS). Career interests and exploration begins in elementary school. Middle school students create electronic portfolios in Xello that they revisit and refine throughout high school. CTE opportunities include expanded pathways and industry-recognized credential options. State-of-the-art CTE facilities at our high schools include A/V production, construction, culinary arts, drafting, nursing and welding," USD 305 noted in a news release this morning."One size does not fit all and we know that having many choices is important. Choices at SPS include earning a credential or associate’s degree, completing a CTE pathway, preparing for college or university or preparing to enter the workforce or military," the district noted.<figure>

ABILENE - Learn about eastern European Easter eggs and how to make them during a class Sunday in Abilene.

The Arts Council of Dickinson County is offering a Pysanky class at 1 p.m. Sunday at 401 N. Cedar Street. During the three-to-four-hour class, participants will learn the history of the Pysanky, which is rooted in eastern Europe, as well as design and create their own pieces of artwork.
