City of Abilene

ABILENE - The Abilene Fire Department and Public Works Department will begin the annual process of flushing city fire hydrant lines and exercising hydrant valves starting Monday.

All fire hydrants are expected to be completed by the end of the month.

Residents living where the hydrant flushing occurs may experience a drop in their home's water pressure or see rust-colored water coming from their pipes.

The water is safe for drinking or bathing; however, it is recommended that residents wait a few hours before doing laundry.

The City of Abilene is divided into six sections for this process.

●Section 1- North of Interstate 70.

●Section 2 - North 14th Street to I-70.

●Section 3 - Buckeye Ave., to Mud Creek, 14th Street to First Street

●Section 4 - Buckeye Ave., to east city limits, 14th Street to First Street

●Section 5 - South of First Street to Mud Creek to East city limits

●Section 6 - Mud Creek to Red Bud Lake
