After the breaking news surfaced that the US Federal Court ruled the Cozy Inn can keep their&nbsp;UFO-themed mural, Salina Commissioners "may" issue comments in the next city commission meeting.

"We’re not going to have any official comment other than the <a href="https://salinapost.com/posts/3465160f-9f32-4640-8781-f1bf6a57fcc7">city’s recent press release</a> regarding the case. That may change after our executive session this coming Monday," said Salina Mayor, Greg Lenkiewicz.

The current commissioners, Lenkiewicz, Jerry Ivey, Trent Davis, Bill Longbine and Michael Hoppock, along with the City of Salina, were named as defendants in the lawsuit that the Cozy Inn filed on February 2024.&nbsp;

The next Salina city commission meeting will take place on Monday, November 24 at&nbsp;4:00 pm&nbsp;inside&nbsp;Room 107&nbsp;of the&nbsp;City-County Building,&nbsp;300 West Ash Street.

Salina Commissioners 'may' give comments about Cozy Inn lawsuit ruling in next commission meeting

After over a year and a half long case of the iconic UFO-themed mural that was put on hold at the Cozy Inn in Salina, the case has been decided.

The <a href="https://kansasjusticeinstitute.org/">Kansas Justice Institute</a> (KJI) who have been representing Cozy Inn owner, Steve Howard, has just announced that U.S. District Court Judge Toby Crouse, has ruled that the City of Salina violated the First Amendment by ordering the hamburger joint to stop painting its UFO-themed mural, marking a major legal victory for the century-old burger restaurant.

Samuel MacRoberts (attorney representing Howard), confirmed the case is final and Howard won the case.

According to a press release by the KJI, McRoberts stated "Salina’s officials don’t get to play art critic, picking&nbsp;and choosing which murals stay, and which go."

“The ruling is clear, to the point, and correct. Salina’s officials don’t get to play art critic, picking and choosing which murals stay, and which go. The right to free speech doesn’t work that way and never has. At the end of the day though, because of Steve and The Cozy, Salina’s mural-scene just got a little bit better,” MacRoberts said.

“Salina is my hometown, I love it here,” said Howard. “I’m incredibly excited I get to finish my mural. The reason I love this community, this town, is because of all of the support everyone has given me. Thank you for standing behind me and supporting me through this."

Throughout the case, Judge Crouse stated Salina has shown that its sign ordinance is not "impermissibly vague." 

This warranted a summary judgment in Salina’s favor on the plaintiffs’ Fourteenth Amendment claim, after&nbsp;Howard and Cozy Inn alleged that Salina’s sign code "is impermissibly vague" in violation of the Fourteenth Amendment’s Due Process Clause.

However, Judge Crouse's final ruling was that Salina’s code violated the First Amendment, giving favor over to the Cozy Inn.

A per the ruling, the City cannot anymore enforce its current mural-sign distinction or indefinitely delay permit applications based on the content of a display.

Howard, filed the lawsuit with help from KJI in early 2024.&nbsp;

According to a press release from the the City of Salina, they are working with its attorneys to "evaluate the broader implications of the court’s order and potential next steps towards resolution of the matter."

This lawsuit has cost the City more than $500,000 in legal expenses.

There is no clear answer on if the City will appeal the ruling.

The telephone conference for the ongoing Cozy Inn lawsuit scheduled for noon on Wednesday, has now been cancelled.

Christ Cathedral announces the return of its unique annual Kirkin’ o’ the Tartans worship service and Feast of St. Andrew, set for Saturday, November 29 at 6:00 pm at the Cathedral (138 S. Eighth Street in downtown Salina).

The Kirkin’ o’ the Tartans spotlights the Scottish tradition of having family and clan tartans blessed during the holiday season. The Saturday-evening service and potluck are open to the public.

“All are welcome to “put on their Scottish” for the Kirkin’ o’ the Tartans,” said Rev. Shay Craig, Dean of Christ Cathedral. “The holiday-season Kirkin’ service of blessing and potluck meal offer our community a taste of Scottish music, traditions and food in a beautiful historic setting.”

At 6 p.m. that Saturday night, attendees will be led into the Cathedral by area bagpipers for a service including Holy Eucharist (communion), festive music and ancient prayers. The tartan kilt, sash, scarf, or fabric swatch of any families in attendance will be blessed as their clan (family) names are “called” out loud in turn, whether or not they are of Scottish ancestry.

Immediately following the worship service is a potluck Ceilidh (‘KAY-lee’) supper, a Scottish Shortbread Dessert Buffet and fo r those age 21 and over, a Scotch Whisky tasting in the library. The evening ends as those in attendance select the Parish Chieftain to wear a special sash at the next year’s Kirkin’.

Today’s modern-day Kirkin’ traditions link back to mid-16th-century Scotland. After the English defeated Bonnie Prince Charlie's forces in the Battle of Culloden in 1746, the wearing of tartans and playing of bagpipes were forbidden. The display or wearing of a family tartan was punishable by death. Scots continued to wear a hidden piece of tartan to church, and their minister secretly would slip in a blessing, or kirking, of the tartans into the worship service.

Celebration of Scottish roots is appropriate for Salina, as three of its four founding families were Scottish. Historically, American Episcopalians owe a debt to the Scottish Episcopal Church. The Church of England would not consecrate the first American bishop elected post-Revolution, unless he swore allegiance to the Crown. When he wouldn’t, Scottish bishops agreeds to consecrate Samuel Seabury in Aberdeen on Nov 14, 1784, asking in return that he incorporate the Scottish Rite for the Eucharist into the American prayer book. Features of this Rite are still in use today.

The first recognized Kirking service in America was held in Washington, D.C. in 1941. The tradition has since grown in popularity. Beyond spotlighting Episcopalian heritage and Scottish culture, Christ Cathedral’s Kirkin’ o’ the Tartans and Feast of St. Andrew potluck encourage participants to reflect on their own family and ethnic heritage.

Those wishing to stay for the potluck Ceilidh (‘KAY-lee’) or reserve a “Whisky In the Library” free ticket should RSVP to the church by Friday, November 21 at 785-827-4440 or to ChristCathedral@ChristCathedralSalina.org. 

Those joining in the potluck meal are welcome but not required to bring a holiday side dish or a dozen shortbread cookies.

Celebrate "Kirkin’ o’ the Tartans" at Christ Cathedral on Thanksgiving weekend

The 4th Annual Veteran's Day Parade is set to occur this Saturday,&nbsp;November 15th at 9:00 am.

Interim Healthcare and the community is inviting you to join in this parade that is meant to honor the brave men and women who have served this country in the armed forces.&nbsp;This tradition brings together veterans, active-duty military, their families, and the community to celebrate their service, sacrifice, and the freedoms they protect.

This special event is a heartfelt expression of gratitude for their selfless dedication and sacrifice to ensure our freedoms.&nbsp;

The parade will start at Elm Street and Santa Fe, ending at South Street.

Local businesses and organizations are encouraged to participate in the parade by registering a float or group.&nbsp;

Entry to the parade is free, but a $25.00 donation made payable to Ambucs-RE: Wheelchair ramps, American Legion or Kansas Honor Flight is suggested.&nbsp;&nbsp;(Neither Non-profit or schools need to make a donation.)

Veterans Day parade set to occur for the 4th year in a row in Salina

The unofficial results for the 2025 Saline County general election, revealed new elects and re-elects.

According to the 2025 General Election unofficial final results, incumbents Commissioner Dr. Trent Davis (3,156) and Mayor Greg Lenkiewicz (2,875) were elected for Salina City Commission as the top two voters. New elect, Doug Rempp finished third with 2,709 votes.

Both Davis and Lenkiewicz will be guaranteed a 4-year term, as Rempp will be guaranteed a 2-year term.

Incumbent, Bill Longbine finished 6th in the race with 2,370 and will no longer serve as Commissioner, once the Commission updates.

Three seats were up for election for the USD 305 School Board and&nbsp;Amy Freelove, Dana Johnson and Gabe Grant (incumbent) were elected.

Freelove had the most votes with&nbsp;4,206. Johnson with&nbsp;3,956 and Grant with&nbsp;3,754.

Incumbent, Bonnie Schamberger finished 4th with&nbsp;3,405 and will no longer be on the school board, once the board updates.

On Thursday, November 13,&nbsp;the Saline County Commission will set a&nbsp;Canvass meeting to review the ballots.&nbsp;

Election day 2025: Stay updated with results on Salina Post

The largest marathon in Kansas will take over the streets of Salina this Saturday morning. With 5125 registered participants as of Monday morning, the Salina Crossroads Marathon is quickly approaching last year’s record of 5204 registrations. 

Visit Salina estimated that the 2024 Salina Crossroads Marathon generated $1,019,080 in economic impact for the Salina Community.

This year the Salina Crossroads Marathon will need more than 400 volunteers.

Volunteer needs include course monitors, helping at aid stations, finish line and festival, and packet pickup. 

"Volunteers are what separate the very best marathons from other races. We were blown away by both the number of individuals who volunteered for last year's race as well as their passion and commitment to ensuring that every runner had an amazing experience. Right now our biggest need is for aid stations, race results, and course monitors," said Co-Race Director-Daniel Craig.

The Salina Crossroads Marathon has more than 5115 registered runners from all 50 states, Canada, India, Mexico, Norway, Tanzania, and The United Kingdom.

Last year’s race created a visitor economic impact of $1,019,080 and we provided $28,212 to the Salina Burn Track and Field Club, Salina Family YMCA, Kansas Youth Sports, Salina Area Youth Sportsmanship Initiative, and School Marathon Foundation. 

Thanks to more than 50 sponsors/supporters, the Salina Crossroads Marathon is one of the only marathons in Kansas that provides 100% of the race entry fees to local nonprofit organizations. Runner safety is a primary concern for the Salina Crossroads Marathon. A marathon requires preparation and planning by runners and event medical personnel. 

We work closely with city service agencies and Salina Family Healthcare Center to ensure we have medical teams led by physicians at the start, throughout the course, and at the finish for thorough coverage. 

The Safety Committee works closely with Dr. Andrew Westbrook at Mowery Clinic, Dr. Amanda Rhyne at Salina Family Healthcare Center, City of Salina Police Department, the City of Salina Street Superintendent, Saline County Emergency Management, Salina Fire Department EMS, National Weather Service, the co-race directors, and many amazing healthcare professionals and volunteers to create a safe environment for all participants and spectators.

· This year there will be a November First Friday event. This final First Friday event will feature late shopping at over a dozen businesses, until 7 PM and artist receptions at 4 locations. Other events include “The Randy Baldwin Band” will be preforming in Campbell Plaza from 6 – 8.

The Salina Crossroads Marathon began when two local runners (Chris Lehecka and Daniel Craig) started visiting about what it would look like for Salina to have a high-quality marathon and half marathon race. The City of Salina helped develop a fun and scenic course that minimized disruptions to traffic and parking in Downtown Salina. The Salina Crossroads Marathon planning committee includes individuals in the nonprofit and for-profit sectors as well as local runners. Andrew Manley serves as a co-race director and treasurer for the Salina Crossroads Marathon. Salina gearing up for largest marathon in Kansas: What to know

I have been asked about why myself, Keith Cooper and Doug Rempp joined forces to offer Real change for Salina? Each of us brings new ideas, and proven ideas to the table that we feel will work to meet the needs of our city and its citizens as well as help to encourage the growth in the local industry that we need. Now saying that each of us has different styles of leadership would be an understatement. But we all know that we can make a positive difference for the city of Salina and our citizens.&nbsp;&nbsp;

One of the giant “in your face” problems that we face, and we hear from every demographic group of people in Salina is: IT COSTS TOO MUCH TO LIVE HERE! Our current leaders tell us that they didn’t raise the mill levy yet everyone I have spoken with has told me that their property tax is still increasing. Now, why is that you might ask?&nbsp; It’s simple, when the city government grows and the city raises the budget for 2026 about FIVE Million dollars more than last year, your property values go up and now you pay more property taxes.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Any honest economist will tell you that property taxes should run within 3-5% in parallel with inflation. Since 1997 Inflation has risen at a steady average rate of 2.5-2.7% for this part of the country. So, doing simple math tells us that inflation should be in the low seventy percent range. Unfortunately, during Covid inflation got a bit worse and we are around 83% higher inflation from 1997 till today. So, following the rule of thumb of being between 3-5% higher property taxes to inflation, your property taxes should be around 88-90% but if you look, they are not. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and the Kansas Dept of Revenue, Salina property taxes are over 159% higher than they were in 1997. Why is that? The cost of city government has grown, and it’s grown at the tax payers expense.&nbsp;&nbsp;

We are not against responsible growth as any citizen (we would hope) would like to see.&nbsp; The mission of the government and those elected by the citizens to oversee and manage the city is to provide for the safety, security, infrastructure and communication of the city. We feel that many of these private/public partnerships are not in the best interest of the taxpayers, and we feel that the taxpayer can spend your money better than any government agency or entity can spend it. We feel that our city has been too liberal with our tax dollars and the middle class, blue collar citizens are the people who are suffering the most.&nbsp;&nbsp;

We will bring common sense and oversight to this city and none of the three of us are going to go along to get along. We will work for you, the voters, the citizens and your families. We will work for all of Salina to ensure that the future generations will have a

future that they can afford and will want to stay in Salina to raise the next generation.&nbsp; We want to see this manufacturing and agriculture hub right at the Crossroads of America grow and flourish. But we will do it with all Salinan’s in mind and work to make it far more affordable to live here which in turn will make Salina far more inviting to people to move here, because they can afford to.&nbsp;&nbsp;

My background in Education, the military and manufacturing, Doug’s background in private business and management, then Keith's small business and construction background brings those bare-knuckle blue-collar skill sets to the table. We will be the stewards of your tax dollars, and we will treat those tax dollars like we were spending our own hard-earned money.&nbsp;

We care about Salina, this is our home, and we will work hard to earn your trust and confidence to do the RIGHT THING FOR ALL OF SALINA.

I have been asked why&nbsp; Keith Cooper, Doug Rempp and myself joined forces to offer Real Change for Salina. While pondering this, I received a flyer in the mail sent out by the GOP of Ks. Actually, I have received several. The Flyer(s) promote Commissioners running either for reelection or have previously served. Let's look at the attributes stated.&nbsp;

#1, Lower Property Taxes. I don’t know about you, but I have not seen my bill go down at all. In fact, it has increased. And regardless of what they say about our Mill Levy, I pay more. Just look at some of the recent decisions made with our money.

#2, Support Small Business. Seriously? Please tell me how. I have 2 words, Cozy Inn. Our City can be difficult to work with and I have seen no move to be more Business friendly. Well, maybe you can call providing our tax dollars as incentives to bring them in support. I would rather we work to keep our current businesses here 1st and foremost!

#3, Stand with our Police, perhaps. It may depend who you talk to. We would like to see more updates from our media sources or more detail from our Police dept

#4, Cut Wasteful Spending, please tell me what you have done to save tax dollars because it seems to us that we have wasteful spending. See 1 and 2 above.&nbsp;

Reminds me of saying I heard years ago. “If you always do what you always did, you will always get what you always got!” A common buzz around town this past year has been that we need new leadership.&nbsp;

Cooper, Keller, and Rempp&nbsp; branded ourselves as your Nov 4th Trifecta for change. We bring fresh new ideas from 3 vastly different backgrounds. We represent a wide cross section of our Community. We will work to represent our Community to the best of our abilities. The 3 of us have similar viewpoints and some different view points. That's healthy as we have 46k thousand people in Salina that have diverse views.&nbsp;

We are not radical. We want to see our City grow in a positive way. Tax reduction tools or abated Property Taxes are a tool our Leaders love to use. However, you don’t offer the world right up front. We have a Central US Location and a great Airport. We are getting new distribution facilities and we should. If we have 25-30% of our City’s Properties not on the tax rolls, the other 70+% have to pay 30% more to make up for them. We want our Leaders to spend our money like it’s coming out of their own pockets, and with transparency.&nbsp;

Everyday it seems we see Business and Industries reducing or streamlining staff due to greater efficiencies. In this day and age, any private business has to be as lean as possible. Governments always seem to take the opposite approach. Every year they feel they are being good stewards of our dollars if they keep their growth inline with inflation. A private business develops their budget the opposite way. They build it based on need at every level in their organization.&nbsp;

We feel we bring Common Sense and fresh oversight to our City and none of us are going to go along to get along. We care about Salina, it’s our home. We will work hard for 100% of the Community to the Best of our Ability!

Now, why is that you might ask?&nbsp; It’s simple, when the city government grows and the city raises the budget for 2026 about FIVE Million dollars more than last year, your property values go up and now you pay more property taxes.&nbsp;&nbsp;Any honest economist will tell you that property taxes should run within 3-5% in parallel with inflation. Since 1997 Inflation has risen at a steady average rate of 2.5-2.7% for this part of the country. So, doing simple math tells us that inflation should be in the low seventy percent range. Unfortunately, during Covid inflation got a bit worse and we are around 83% higher inflation from 1997 till today. So, following the rule of thumb of being between 3-5% higher property taxes to inflation, your property taxes should be around 88-90% but if you look, they are not. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and the Kansas Dept of Revenue, Salina property taxes are over 159% higher than they were in 1997. Why is that? The cost of city government has grown, and it’s grown at the tax payers expense.&nbsp;&nbsp;We are not against responsible growth as any citizen (we would hope) would like to see.&nbsp; The mission of the government and those elected by the citizens to oversee and manage the city is to provide for the safety, security, infrastructure and communication of the city. We feel that many of these private/public partnerships are not in the best interest of the taxpayers, and we feel that the taxpayer can spend your money better than any government agency or entity can spend it. We feel that our city has been too liberal with our tax dollars and the middle class, blue collar citizens are the people who are suffering the most.&nbsp;&nbsp;We will bring common sense and oversight to this city and none of the three of us are going to go along to get along. We will work for you, the voters, the citizens and your families. We will work for all of Salina to ensure that the future generations will have afuture that they can afford and will want to stay in Salina to raise the next generation.&nbsp; We want to see this manufacturing and agriculture hub right at the Crossroads of America grow and flourish. But we will do it with all Salinan’s in mind and work to make it far more affordable to live here which in turn will make Salina far more inviting to people to move here, because they can afford to.&nbsp;&nbsp;My background in Education, the military and manufacturing, Doug’s background in private business and management, then Keith's small business and construction background brings those bare-knuckle blue-collar skill sets to the table. We will be the stewards of your tax dollars, and we will treat those tax dollars like we were spending our own hard-earned money.&nbsp;We care about Salina, this is our home, and we will work hard to earn your trust and confidence to do the RIGHT THING FOR ALL OF SALINA.<h2>&nbsp;A bit more from Johnnie “Jak” Keller before Nov 4th:</h2>I have been asked why&nbsp; Keith Cooper, Doug Rempp and myself joined forces to offer Real Change for Salina. While pondering this, I received a flyer in the mail sent out by the GOP of Ks. Actually, I have received several. The Flyer(s) promote Commissioners running either for reelection or have previously served. Let's look at the attributes stated.&nbsp;#1, Lower Property Taxes. I don’t know about you, but I have not seen my bill go down at all. In fact, it has increased. And regardless of what they say about our Mill Levy, I pay more. Just look at some of the recent decisions made with our money.#2, Support Small Business. Seriously? Please tell me how. I have 2 words, Cozy Inn. Our City can be difficult to work with and I have seen no move to be more Business friendly. Well, maybe you can call providing our tax dollars as incentives to bring them in support. I would rather we work to keep our current businesses here 1st and foremost!#3, Stand with our Police, perhaps. It may depend who you talk to. We bring fresh new ideas from 3 vastly different backgrounds. We represent a wide cross section of our Community. We will work to represent our Community to the best of our abilities. The 3 of us have similar viewpoints and some different view points. That's healthy as we have 46k thousand people in Salina that have diverse views.&nbsp;We are not radical. We want to see our City grow in a positive way. Tax reduction tools or abated Property Taxes are a tool our Leaders love to use. However, you don’t offer the world right up front. We have a Central US Location and a great Airport. We are getting new distribution facilities and we should. If we have 25-30% of our City’s Properties not on the tax rolls, the other 70+% have to pay 30% more to make up for them. We want our Leaders to spend our money like it’s coming out of their own pockets, and with transparency.&nbsp;Everyday it seems we see Business and Industries reducing or streamlining staff due to greater efficiencies. In this day and age, any private business has to be as lean as possible. Governments always seem to take the opposite approach. Every year they feel they are being good stewards of our dollars if they keep their growth inline with inflation. A private business develops their budget the opposite way. They build it based on need at every level in their organization.&nbsp;We feel we bring Common Sense and fresh oversight to our City and none of us are going to go along to get along. We care about Salina, it’s our home. OPINION: "We can make a positive difference for the City of Salina"

We will be electing a new batch of city commissioners. I say NEW because I would hope the citizens of Salina will finally clean house of those who have, with good intentions, slowly created a TOWN that's losing its identity. 

Beautifying the TOWN via using graffiti and destroying the beauty of historical buildings is hard to understand. While they are focused on beautifying the downtown, they ignore the plight slowly happening to the historic neighborhoods. Unkept dwellings, overgrown yards, and abandoned dwellings give the impression TOWN is decaying....but downtown is beautiful. 

Then there's the age-old problem of streets needing to be restriped and repaved, not to mention the sad state of the parking lots owned by businesses in strip malls, and small shopping centers. I know, it's not a city problem. The parking lots belong to the owners of the strip malls and small shopping centers. I've been told the city can't do anything about it. There has to be a way. Maybe the TOWN can come up with some policy or ordinance that requires those owners maintain their parking lots.

Let's not vote for local government like we do for National government. We don't co our diligence in national elections, but we should do better locally. It's your TOWN.

The decision for the ongoing Cozy Inn lawsuit has been delayed to next month, as October's status conference meeting has been rescheduled.

According to PACER reports from the US District Court, District of Kansas, the status conference that was initially set for October 22, 2025&nbsp; has been rescheduled for November 19, 2025.

The status conference will be held at Frank Carlson Federal Building in Topeka&nbsp;(444 SE Quincy St.)&nbsp;in courtroom 401, before District Judge Toby Crouse.

The attorneys representing Cozy Inn during this conference was Samuel MacRoberts and Jeffrey Shaw. Attorneys representing the City of Salina was Todd Messenger, Amanda Jokerst and Aaron Martin.

On February 19, 2024, the Cozy Inn sued the City of Salina.

UPDATE: Status conference rescheduled to November for Cozy Inn lawsuit

City Attorney, Greg Bengtson will be stepping down from his lead role by the end of the year.

As announced by City Manager Jacob Wood, Bengston will not be fully retiring, but is planning to slow down his practice and the firm’s work for the City. As part of the transition, the role will be&nbsp;shared among other municipal attorneys within the Clark, Mize, &amp; Linville (CML) firm.&nbsp;

Back in 1986, the city partnered with CML&nbsp;that appointed Bengtson as attorney.

"It has been a privilege to serve in this role," said Bengston during Monday's City Commission meeting.

The city will seek for a full-time, in-house City Attorney.

Get ready for upcoming most runner friendly Marathon in Kansas, which will be held on Saturday,&nbsp;November 8 in downtown Salina.

With a little over three months until race day there are 4,475 runners registered from all 50 states, Canada, Mexico and Tanzania, which puts Salina Crossroads on pace to be the largest marathon event in Kansas this year. 

There are over 2,000 runners registered from outside the state of Kansas and nearly 3,700 from outside of Salina. For the 2024 race, Visit Salina estimated that the Salina Crossroads Marathon generated $1,019,080 in economic impact for the Salina Community.

This year the Salina Crossroads Marathon will need more than 300 volunteers.

Volunteer needs include course monitors, finish line and festival, and packet pickup. Course Monitors will ensure safety along the run course by assisting traffic across intersections, providing pedestrians/runners with course direction, and encouraging participants along the course. 

Festival volunteers will be placed in various areas around the finish line area and assist with the removal of timing chips, handing out participant finisher medals, distributing participant food/beverage items, and cleaning &amp; maintaining a green event. There are shifts on Friday (Nov 7) from 10:00 am - 8:00 pm and Saturday morning (Nov 8) starting at 6:00 am for packet pickup that includes assigning runners their bib number and getting them their race shirt.

"Volunteers are what separate the very best marathons from other races. We are often one of the highest rated marathons on national race sites and one of the most frequent comments is how amazing our volunteers are,” said Co-Race Director-Daniel Craig.

The Salina Crossroads Marathon has made a commitment to be a “Gold Standard” race by distributing 100% of race entry fees back to Saline County Youth Sports. 

Thanks to over 50 sponsors/supporters, the Salina Crossroads Marathon is one of the most affordable races in Kansas and raised $28,212 for the Salina Burn Track and Field Club, Salina Family YMCA, Kansas Youth Sports, SAYSI, and School Marathon Foundation in 2024. Salina Crossroads Marathon announced for Nov. 8th, registration open and volunteers needed

As the 2025 election season continues, the City of Salina has provided and developed resources for the community to make their voices heard, while observing city requirements.

The City of Salina is requiring community members to observe requirements of the Salina Municipal Code (SMC) and Kansas statutes, in the process of placing political signs.&nbsp;

Here are the requirements provided by the City of Salina, categorized by residential housing, nursing homes, commercial/industrial lots and roads:

- On private property – an unlimited number of signs may be placed, none may exceed 8 sq. ft. in area or 6 ft. in height.

- On public right-of-way adjacent to your property – an unlimited number of signs may be placed, none may exceed 8 sq. ft. in area or 6 ft. in height.

Apartment Complexes, Nursing Homes, Commercial/Industrial Lots

· On private property – up to two signs may be placed, each no more than 32 sq. ft. in area or 6 ft. in height. An unlimited number of signs, each having an area of 8 sq. ft. or less and a height of less than 6 ft., are allowed.

· On public right-of-way adjacent to your property – an unlimited number of signs may be placed, but none may exceed 8 sq. ft. in area or 6 ft. in height.

Signs placed in the public right-of-way may NOT:

- exceed 8 sq. ft. in area or 6’ in height.

- be placed in a clear sight triangle (14ft from corner or edge) for any intersection of public or private streets, alleys, or driveways. For more information on sight triangles, see Section 35-51 of the SMC.

- be placed in right-of-way abutting parks or recreational facilities.

- be placed on utility poles, street light poles, permanent sign poles or posts, benches, or trees.

State of Kansas KSA 25-2430 prohibits political activities (including signs) within 250 feet of the entrance to a polling place on Election Day and advance voting locations during the advance voting period.
