Robin Lynn (Nicewander) Macy was born November 6, 1958, in Clay Center, Kansas, the second of two children born to Ralph Nicewander and Leola Stites Nicewander. She died on April 4, 2023

She attended Clay Center schools, graduating from Clay Center Community High School in 1977. 

During high school, Robin started working at age 14 as a waitress at The Jiffy Inn in Clay Center, then worked in various jobs as a retail salesclerk. In later years she worked in office jobs.

Robin was married to John Macy of Augusta, Kansas on November 27, 1982, at the Clay Center Wesleyan Church. They briefly lived in rural Augusta for about 18 months, then moved to the farm that John had purchased before their marriage in rural Miltonvale, KS where they had made their home for the past 39 years.

John and Robin were blessed with two children, Nicole Eilene in 1984 and Nathaniel Wesley in 1988.

Robin devoted her life to her home and family. She was a meticulous keeper of the home. She had a strong artistic bent, both in and around the house with the seasonal decorating and landscaping. She was a quiet extrovert who enjoyed being around people. Throughout her illness, she saw the medical care givers, particularly at the Tammy Walker Cancer, as well as other patients, as her ministry.

She saw this as her opportunity to impact others with the love of Christ, seeing this as part of God's sovereign design in her own battle with cancer.

She was a devoted member of the Concordia Wesleyan Church.

Robin was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Nicewander.

She is survived by her husband, John Macy of Miltonvale, Kansas; daughter, Nicole Macy of Balynure County Antrim, Northern Ireland; son, Nathaniel Macy of Clay Center, Kansas; grandson, Elijah; granddaughter, Audra; mother, Leola Nicewander of Clay Center, Kansas; brother, Edward Nicewander of Hutchinson, Kansas and lifelong dear friend, Vickie Coover of Barnard, Kansas.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 10, 2023 from 4-7 p.m. at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home, Clay Center, KS.

Funeral Services for Robin will be on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the Concordia Wesleyan Church in Concordia, KS

Burial will take place following the service at Wesleyan No. 7 Cemetery, Clay County, KS.

Reta B. Knitter, 85, of Clay Center died on Monday, April 3, 2023 at the Stormont-Vail Health Flint Hills Campus in Junction City, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born on February 5, 1938, the daughter of Joseph and Verda (Nemnich) Trudell, in Morganville, Kansas.

Reta grew up in Morganville, graduating from Morganville High School in 1956.&nbsp; 

On June 2, 1957, she married Ross Knitter and he preceded her in death on March 30, 2007.&nbsp; 

Reta worked as a secretary for E.E. Cyr in Morganville.&nbsp; She then worked for USD 379 as a secretary for the Wakefield Schools before moving to the USD 379 Board office, where she was a secretary for 42 years.&nbsp; 

Reta had tremendous strength and fought hard, even up to the day of her passing.&nbsp; She was a member of the Clay Center United Methodist Church, Clay Center Country Club and the Bridge Club.&nbsp; 

Reta is also preceded in death by her parents and sister, Joan Germann.

She is survived by her son, Kevin and his wife Carol Knitter of Tucson, Arizona; daughter, Karmen Holt of Junction City, Kansas; five grandchildren, Joseph (Lauren) Knitter, Crystal (Aaron) Barnes, Wendi Holt, Jacob (Maggie) Knitter and John (Naomi) Knitter and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at the Clay Center United Methodist Church.

Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center, Kansas.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 from 4-7 p.m. at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home, Clay Center, Kansas.

Virginia served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1962, after graduating from high school. 

She married Robert Ludowese on April 28, 1962.&nbsp; 

Virginia worked as a stocker and cashier for Wal-Mart for several years.&nbsp;

 Robert preceded her in death on January 30, 2014.&nbsp; She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Glenn Curlee.

Kenneth V. Naysmith, the son of Victor Vernon Naysmith and Hazel Lucille (Clark) Naysmith Hoops, was born August 8, 1942 in Belleville, Kansas and passed away on March 29, 2023 at Credo Senior Living, Belleville, KS at the age of 80 years, 7 months, and 21 days.

Kenneth grew up in the Byron and Chester area, attending the local country schools and later graduating from Chester High School in 1959.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Following his graduation, he was engaged in farming and agriculture in Byron, NE for most of his life.

On August 7, 1966, he was united in marriage to Nancy Ann Young and to this union two children were born, Jeffrey and Jill.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The couple made their home in rural Byron, NE on the farm, moving to Belleville, KS 20 years ago.

Kenneth also sold crop insurance and did computer repair.&nbsp;&nbsp; He was a licensed pilot, flying for pleasure and also did aerial infrared photography of crops in the area for farmers.

Kenneth was a member of the Chester United Methodist Church, former member of the Byron Lions Club and the High Banks Hall of Fame Museum, and the Belleville Flyers Club.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He also was a member of the Kansas Sons of American Revolution, Bennington Chapter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, V. Vernon Naysmith and Hazel Naysmith Hoops;&nbsp; brother, Willis Naysmith; sister, Alene Smoot; brother-in-law, Robert Hayes; and stepfather Edwin Hoops.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Nancy A. Naysmith of Belleville, KS;&nbsp;One son, Jeffrey (Angie) Naysmith of Newton, KS;&nbsp; one daughter Jill (Jim) Persinger of Toronto, Ontario-Canada;&nbsp; three grandchildren,&nbsp; Kailey (Tanner) Duerksen of Newton, KS, Jensen Persinger of Lawrence, Kansas and Campbell Persinger of Ft. Dr. Ali Bülent Manguoglu, 69, of Salina, KS passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his daughters and wife on April 4th, 2023, with the support of Gentiva Hospice. Dr. Manguoglu was born in Izmir, Turkey on May 12th, 1953.

He graduated from Hacettepe University School of Medicine, Ankara, Turkey in 1976, and then attended Ankara University School of Medicine, Ankara, Turkey, Dept. of General Surgery as a 1st year resident. Ali’s journey in the United States started at Baystate Medical Center, Springfield, Massachusetts, Dept. of General Surgery, then onto the University of Kansas School of Medicine, KC, KS, Dept. of Neurological Surgery (rock chalk!) for his Neurosurgery Residency. Ali then ventured to the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK, Dept. of Neurosurgery, Registrar/Fellow, and finally the University of Maryland, Baltimore, Maryland, SHOCK-TRAUMA Unit, Neurotrauma Fellowship. &nbsp;

Dr. Manguoglu’s board certifications include the American Board of Neurological Surgery and Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh, UK in Surgical Neurology (SN.) Ali established “Salina Neurological Surgery” practice in 1985, and then established (with Salina Regional Health Center) “Salina Regional Neurosurgery.” He retired in 2019 due to health conditions. He proudly served Salina and surrounding communities for nearly 35 years. &nbsp;

Not only was Dr. Manguoglu a world-renowned neurosurgeon, but lived each day to the fullest, as if it were his last – travelling the world with his family and creating an endless book of stories. His favorite hobbies included listening and dancing to music, cooking, skiing, gardening, and rescuing animals.

Unfortunately, Dr. Ali B. Manguoglu lost his battle with terminal cancer and Parkinson’s disease after he fought hard to continue normalcy and create as many memories as he could in his final year, such as visiting his daughters and grandchildren, taking a final trip to Turkey and a memorable weekend in Kansas City at Tasso’s and Arthur Bryant’s.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Survivors include his wife, Georgia Manguoglu, daughters Ayse Heisdorf and Safiye Williams, their husbands John Heisdorf and Mark Williams, and stepdaughter Heather Jones. Ali is also survived by his grandchildren Kai and Koa Williams and Ayla Heisdorf, as well as brothers Enis and Turgut Manguoglu. 

Ali was preceded in death by his stepson Steven Jones, and parents Fetih Manguoglu and Ahter Alkum.

A visitation will be held on Friday, April 7th at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. 8th St., Salina, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and a graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 8th at Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina.

Dr. Manguoglu was born in Izmir, Turkey on May 12th, 1953.He graduated from Hacettepe University School of Medicine, Ankara, Turkey in 1976, and then attended Ankara University School of Medicine, Ankara, Turkey, Dept. of General Surgery as a 1st year resident. Ali’s journey in the United States started at Baystate Medical Center, Springfield, Massachusetts, Dept. of General Surgery, then onto the University of Kansas School of Medicine, KC, KS, Dept. of Neurological Surgery (rock chalk!) for his Neurosurgery Residency. Ali then ventured to the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK, Dept. of Neurosurgery, Registrar/Fellow, and finally the University of Maryland, Baltimore, Maryland, SHOCK-TRAUMA Unit, Neurotrauma Fellowship. &nbsp;Dr. Manguoglu’s board certifications include the American Board of Neurological Surgery and Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh, UK in Surgical Neurology (SN.) Ali established “Salina Neurological Surgery” practice in 1985, and then established (with Salina Regional Health Center) “Salina Regional Neurosurgery.” He retired in 2019 due to health conditions. He proudly served Salina and surrounding communities for nearly 35 years. &nbsp;Not only was Dr. Manguoglu a world-renowned neurosurgeon, but lived each day to the fullest, as if it were his last – travelling the world with his family and creating an endless book of stories. His favorite hobbies included listening and dancing to music, cooking, skiing, gardening, and rescuing animals.Unfortunately, Dr. Ali B. Manguoglu lost his battle with terminal cancer and Parkinson’s disease after he fought hard to continue normalcy and create as many memories as he could in his final year, such as visiting his daughters and grandchildren, taking a final trip to Turkey and a memorable weekend in Kansas City at Tasso’s and Arthur Bryant’s.&nbsp; &nbsp;Survivors include his wife, Georgia Manguoglu, daughters Ayse Heisdorf and Safiye Williams, their husbands John Heisdorf and Mark Williams, and stepdaughter Heather Jones. Ali is also survived by his grandchildren Kai and Koa Williams and Ayla Heisdorf, as well as brothers Enis and Turgut Manguoglu. SALINA -&nbsp;Luetta B. Harrell, 93, passed away April 1, 2023 while under hospice care at Presbyterian Manor. Luetta was born May 15, 1929, in Ellis, Kansas, the seventh of ten children belonging to Walter and Eva (Sauer) Haneke. 

Luetta graduated from Ellis High School in 1946 and went on to marry George Harrell of Barnard, Kansas on February 22nd, 1948. They were married fifty-one years and spent most of their married lives in Salina. 

Luetta began her career as a receptionist at Waddell &amp; Reed and worked her way up to Financial Advisor where she helped a multitude of people manage their finances for over 30 years.

Luetta was a charter member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and was active in the Ladies Elks Club of Salina. As a first generation American, she enjoyed cooking Austrian recipes her mother, Eva, brought with her when she immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island.

Luetta was preceded in death by her husband George Harrell in 1999; three sisters, and four brothers. 

She is survived by her daughter Joleen Stein (Steve) of Gypsum; grandchildren Melynda McCabe (Chris) and Thomas Stein (Elane); great-grandchildren Jack, Jace, Addie, Ellyanna; granddaughters Bailey Harrell, Madison Harrell; son Mike Harrell; and siblings Donna Henderson and Don Haneke.

Phillipsburg resident Lois Ann Haas passed away Tuesday, April 4, 
2023, at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg, Kansas.

Lois was born on August 7, 1954, in Phillipsburg, Kansas, to Milo and Norma (Stevens) Gitchel.

Lois is preceded in death by her parents Milo and Norma, brothers Allan and Elbert Gitchel, and sister Kathy Willis.

Survivors include her husband Larry Haas of Phillipsburg, daughters 
Eula Runnion and husband Brian of Wichita, Kansas, and Monica Wagner and
 husband Wade of Smith Center, Kansas, brother Delbert Gitchel of

He was born the fourth child of Paul and Delma (Meier) Reynolds, who both preceded him in death.

Survivors: Eileen (Rice) Reynolds, his wife of 47 years of the home, and a foster son, Joshua Willis of California. Brothers: Larry (Dorothy) Reynolds of Wellington, KS. and Bob Reynolds of Salina, KS. Sister-- Mary Pierce of OKC, and many cousins, nephews, and nieces.

Earl graduated from Salina Central High School in 1973 and went on to graduate from Concordia College in Seward NE. with a degree and certificate in education. He worked as a teacher and principal at several different Lutheran schools in California before being forced to retire at an early age due to major health issues.

Cremation was chosen. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 9th &amp; Crawford, Salina, KS. followed by Interment at Roselawn Memorial Cemetery, Salina, KS. He graduated from Spearville High School in 2003 and attended Hutchinson Community College on a track scholarship.&nbsp; He then enlisted in the Navy Seabees and served his country for seven years.&nbsp; Kyle was currently enrolled as a fulltime student at McPherson College.&nbsp;

She then attended Central Christian College, McPherson, Kansas and received her bachelor's degree in Nursing at Tri-County Nursing College, Salina, Kansas. Nancy was a member of the First Christian Church in McPherson. Through the years Nancy worked as a nurse for the Cedars, Dr. Larzalere Office, McPherson Hospital, was owner of Curves For Women and worked at Walmart Pharmacy, McPherson, Kansas until she retired in 2022. Nancy enjoyed laughing, dancing, and having fun, garage selling, loved helping people, had the heart of a nurse and loved spending time with her friends and family. Nancy Sue Krell was united in marriage to Martin Bell on July 23, 1998 in Miami, Oklahoma. The couple established their first home together in McPherson. Stephen R. Williams, 81, of Newton, Kansas died on Monday, April 3, 2023. Steve was born on January 4, 1941, in Wellington, Kansas to Leonard and Opal Williams.

Steve grew up in Wellington, Kansas where he graduated from Wellington High School in May 1960. &nbsp;He went on and attended Kansas State Teachers College of Emporia and graduated in 1964 with a BS in Education. While in college, Steve met his wife, Cheryl, through a blind date. They were married on June 28, 1964, in El Dorado, Kansas.

Steve and Cheryl made their home in Salina, Kansas next door to Harold and Florence Eisenhauer. The Eisenhauers’ became like another set of parents to them. Marci was born in 1969 and in 1971, Marc joined the family. While living in Salina, Steve taught English at Salina High School while pursuing his Masters in School Administration from Kansas State Teachers College of Emporia. &nbsp;He graduated with a MS in School Administration in August of 1969. In 1971, Steve became Assistant Principal/Activities Director at Salina High School South.

The family moved to Newton in 1976 when Steve became Principal at Newton High School. In 1980, he changed his career and worked at Hesston Corporation holding various positions. In 1990, Steve was called to return to education and became principal at Salina High School Central.&nbsp; He held that position for eleven years until he retired. In the summer of 2001, Steve and Cheryl moved back to Newton where they have made their home since. &nbsp;Steve held many retirement jobs, but he was most proud of his time serving as a consultant for the Kansas Health Foundation.

Steve was also honored to be a member of the Army Reserves from 1967-1976. He chose the Reserves because they had an opening, and he was accepted. He was sent into active duty in 1968 for 5 months.

Steve was a proud alumnus of Emporia State University, formerly known as the Kansas State Teachers College of Emporia. Steve gave many of his years to the University serving on the Alumni Board and the Emporia State Foundation Board of Trustees.&nbsp; Steve was honored to be Chair of the Foundation from 2015-2017.

He enjoyed golfing, playing cards with friends, yard work, grilling and was an avid reader. He enjoyed watching his Red Sox and KU basketball, but never forget to cheer on the KSU Wildcats, because all his grandkids attended college there.&nbsp; His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he loved spending time with them.&nbsp;

Steve was preceded in death by his parents and Harold and Florence Eisenhauer.

Steve is survived by his wife of 58 years, Cheryl, his two children, Marci (Doug) Brenneman of Newton, Kansas and Marc (Kari) of Spring Hill, Kansas; five grandchildren, Katie (Jarrett) Whitson, Max Brenneman and Isabel (Hunter Willyard) Williams. Steve is also survived by his brother, Duane, of Wellington, Kansas.

GREAT BEND Mark Alan Rogers, 58, passed away March 29, 2023 in Great Bend. He was born March 23, 1965, in Lincoln, KS to Ralph Henry and Judy Ann (Meyer) Rogers.

Mark served his country in the U.S. Navy in the Persian Gulf during the Iran-Iraq conflict aboard the USS Guadalcanal. He was a Residence Life Coordinator at Barton County Community College, and a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln.

Mark is survived by his mother, Judy Donley of Lincoln; sister Lori Soeken (Rob) of Great Bend; sister Joni Zink of Bushton; brother Greg Rogers of Shawnee; sister Lisa Feldkamp (Mark) of Lincoln; three nieces; six nephews; six great-nieces; nine great-nephews; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. 

He was preceded in death by his father Ralph Rogers; brother-in-law Joseph Zink; stepfather Jim Donley; and nephew Jared Soeken.

Memorial service: 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln with burial following in the church cemetery.

D. Eugene West was born on March 12, 1935 to Mattie Reed. He was raised by his Grandma and Grandpa Reed and nine aunts and uncles. He died on March 22, 2023.

He is predeceased by his mother, grandparents and grandson, Brett Cushenbery, who had a very special place in his heart and son-in-law, Larry Cushenbery. 

He is survived by his wife, Wanda West; children Debra Allison (Greg), Gene Jr (Lori), Yvonne Cushenbery, six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Eugene was a Wichita Fire Fighter for 21 years and he worked several other jobs on his days off from the fire department. He was the manager for Wilbert Burial Vault Company after he retired and then went to work at Doric Vault in Newton, Kansas.

Eugene enjoyed most outdoor sports, fishing and hunting were a passion. He lived a good long life and especially enjoyed his family.

Gary enjoyed sports, working with his crew and spending time with his friends. He is survived by a daughter Amy Weible; and a cousin, Janice Oden of Sterling, Kansas. Gary was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Walter Eugene Weible. Cremation is planned and burial of cremains will be at Prairielawn Cemetery, Wellington, KS. There will be no services.

Dalton Lynn Frost, 30, passed away on Tuesday, March 21st, 2023, at his home in Gorham, KS.&nbsp;

Dalton and his identical twin brother, Dakota, were born on September 16th, 1992,&nbsp;in Hays, KS to Gerald and Vickie Frost. His childhood and school years were spent spread between Salina, Russell and Natoma, KS.&nbsp;His adult life was spent mainly in Colorado and Russell working in the fencing business and in several different areas&nbsp;in the oilfield. He was one of the hardest workers anyone ever knew.

Dalton and his twin were daredevils from the start and lived life at full speed. He loved being in the outdoors, whether it was hunting, fishing, camping, going to the lake, or just driving on country roads for hours.&nbsp;There wasn’t a mechanical issue that he couldn’t solve or a tool he couldn’t reinvent to get the job done. He loved cracking open a cold one and shooting the breeze with his friends and family. His daughter, Kenlee, was his world and he did anything and everything he could for her. Dalton never knew a stranger because anyone he met automatically became his friend. His big smile, loving hugs and great sense of humor would make&nbsp;anyone’s day better. He would do anything for anyone&nbsp;and was selfless to a fault. His family, daughter and close friends meant everything to him&nbsp;and&nbsp;are the reason he stayed on Earth as long as he did.&nbsp;

Nola was a lifetime resident of Lincoln County. She grew up near Denmark where she attended grade school. She graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1947. 

Nola married Daniel Maurice Cromwell in Kansas City, KS on March 6, 1949. 

She was a true farmwife, helping Daniel with all the farm operations and even running the farm with son, Benny when Daniel was gone hauling cattle. Later, she was a bus driver for 32 years for the Lincoln schools. Nola and Daniel enjoyed traveling and later she traveled to many destinations with friends and family. Nola had an affection for Native American culture and always admired their artwork. She was a member of the Lincoln Presbyterian Church until its closure when she joined the Lincoln United Methodist Church.

Nola is survived by her daughters Debra Meier (Nolan) of Lantana, TX and Sandra King of Lincoln; son Daniel Benson “Benny” Cromwell (Jeannine) of Lincoln; daughters Melodee Larsen (Rodney) of Lincoln, Carole Liggett (Galen) of Lincoln, and Dina Hackney (Ed) of Salina, KS; brother Ronald Benson (Jean) of Dumas, TX; sister Barbara Davis of Spokane, WA; 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren; former foreign exchange student Elaine (Brito) Pimentel of Brazil; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Daniel; granddaughter Tara King; and brother Royce Benson.

Visitation: 1-7 p.m., Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at Hall Chapel, Lincoln. Family will greet friends 5-7 p.m.

Funeral service: 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Hall Chapel with burial following at the Lincoln Cemetery.

Carol Jean Miller, 84, of Salina, passed away Tuesday, March 28th, 2023.

Carol was raised in Hoisington, Kansas on April 10, 1938, a daughter of the late Tina Luvenia (Smith) and John Paul Miller.

Survivors include her two daughters, Rayshonette Miller of Salina, Kansas, Tina Miller of Kansas City, Missouri; six grandchildren, Tamitrua Wilkins, Jere Thomas, Darius Thomas, Braxton Flemming, Brenan Latimer, Corey Latimer; 14 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Carol is also survived by her sister, Dorla "Deane" Hudson of Salina, Kansas.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters Geraldine Miller, Beverly Moon, Barbara Minnis; brother Jerome Miller.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 22, 2023, at St. John's Missionary Baptist Church.
