Joan B. Danner (Joanie) June 21, 1937 ~ April 8, 2024

Joan B. Danner (Joanie) was born June 21, 1937 to parents Owen Love Gallaher and Sylvia B. Gallaher (Salmons) in Winningkoff, Texas. Winningkoff was a magical place for Joanie, as her grandfather, Lee Gallaher, owned a farm there and she spent many happy times at his home. She and her cousin, Jimmy, spent their days riding horses without a saddle and cooking potatoes on a fire they set up down by the always ice cold spring, enjoying times when friends and family would gather for music where many of the attendees would play the piano, guitars, banjoes, fiddles, etc. and just have a fun, musical evening. It truly was a magical place that even many years later, she would think of with much love and happiness. Joanie’s father, Owen, died when she was five and her older brother, Love, was 10. Joanie went to her first year of school at the country, two-room schoolhouse that her grandfather, Lee Gallaher, helped build years before. Joanie had a younger sister, Sandra Kay, and along with brother, Love, and mother, Sylvia, they settled in Plano, Texas and Joanie completed her schooling in Plano graduating from high school in 1956 in a class of 52. Plano had a population of just over 2000 and was a sleepy, Mayberry-type of great place to grow up. Plano now has a population of 285,500. Joanie was a majorette for four years and loved marching each year in the annual Cotton Bowl football game parade. She was a class officer all four years of high school. Joanie worked at the local newspaper as the high school reporter and wrote up articles about the student activities and sports.

After high school, Joanie attended TWU (Texas Woman’s University) in Denton, Texas, majoring in art and journalism. Joanie then went to work at the Earle M. Jorgensen Steel Company, where she was the Inside Sales secretary for seven salesmen. She later worked at Pontiac Motor Division of General Motors and was the Assistant Zone Manager’s secretary, and also operated one of the very first key punch machines for ordering cars for the Pontiac Dealers. While living in Dallas, Joanie was asked to be one of the models for the Clifton Wilhite Company, which designed ball gowns and evening wear sold all over America.August 18, 1962 Joanie was united in marriage to Richard Danner. They left Dallas and moved to Topeka, Kansas, where Richard finished up his college degree and Joanie worked as the first secretary for the White Lakes Mall Shopping Center, which was just getting tenants and beginning construction. They moved back to Abilene and Richard joined his father, Ray, in operating the Danner Funeral Home. Joanie worked as secretary to Principal George Madelen at Abilene High School and later was secretary to Bob Pierce at the Duckwall Stores, later to be known as ALCO. Richard and Joanie divorced in 1983. To this marriage, two daughters were born, Angela Kay Danner and Amy Rae (Danner) Flinn.

Joanie loved entertaining and had many dinner parties and enjoyed making delicious meals for her friends. Her favorite thing to do was go to antique sales all over town and surrounding country auctions. She refinished over 30 pieces of furniture and loved going to her furniture refinishing class. During these years, Joanie also started a new hobby of painting in oils and acrylics. Over the years, Joanie belonged to many organizations which included Junior Thursday Study Club in Texas, Jaycee Jaynes, Abilene Country Club, Junior League, Gourmet Club, Birthday Club, Buckeye Saddle Club, Beta Sigma Phi, and 4H Cooking Teacher. Joanie designed every inch of her beautiful home, Windy Hill Farm, and she loved being there so very much. Joanie also loved gardening, and her favorite flower was roses of all kinds. She had many rose bushes, which gave her great joy.

Joanie worked at the Topeka, Kansas Police Department, Records Division, for seven years as a Senior Records Clerk and seven years as a Supervisor in Records. Joanie retired from this job in August 2001 and moved back to Abilene.

Joanie loved playing with her three grandchildren, Landon Flinn and twins Millie and Jimmy Danner-Homer, and she became quite the lover of children once they were born. She had been a curmudgeon about children until they came along, and all of a sudden, children were wonderful! Joanie is preceded in death by her parents, Owen L. Gallaher Sr, Sylvia B. Gallaher Wims and Weldon Wims, brother Owen Love Jr, nephews John Owen and Darryl Gallaher, and niece Cheryl Scovill. She is survived by daughters, Angela Kay Danner and Amy Rae Flinn (Steve), her grandchildren, Landon Flinn, Millie Danner-Homer, and Jimmy Danner-Homer, sister Kay and husband James Christopher, niece Karen Caramela and husband Jon Phenicie, and great niece Morgan Jenson, sister-in-law Beatrice Gallaher, nieces Beth Ann Gallaher, Brenda and husband Dennis Hozak, great nephew Brandon Hozak, and nephew Bryan Gallaher.

In her later years, Joanie had many health issues and her life became very different, as she could not get around without a rollator, so the once very lively lady became very much a stay at home person. During this time, she spent many happy hours creating beautiful scrapbooks for her daughters and grandchildren that they will cherish forever. She especially enjoyed spending time with Angela and the twins in Kansas City and with Amy and her family in St. George, KS.

Cremation has been chosen and Joanie requested that no services be held. Joanie loved her family and friends, and she would wish each one to remember at least one happy time they had spent with her and keep her in their memories. Memorials may be made in Joanie’s memory to the Abilene Public Library in care of Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, Abilene, KS.

Allen Blaine Asbridge-Reed January 19, 1957 ~ April 4, 2024

Allen Blaine Asbridge Reed, 67, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Thursday morning, April 4th, 2024, at his home. He was born January 19th, 1957, at the Schilling Air Force Base Hospital in Salina, to one Allen Conrad Reed and Connie J. (Aills) Reed Asbridge.

Blaine worked his teenage years for Paul and John Miller, at Millers Produce Market. While working for the Millers, Blaine always made sure that his family had plenty of Watermelon, Cantaloupe, Fresh tomatoes, and much more. He also worked for Loux Home Improvements, which was owned by his grandmother LeeElla Esse and Arthur J. Loux. He also worked for some time at Midwest Security and Ballou Construction.

Blaine then served his country in the US Army. After that, he moved to Minnesota and started his own painting service for the newly built apartments in the community.

Blaine grew up in the Saina area and he attended Central High School. (Go Mustangs).

Blaine is survived by his sons, Ryan Will (Nichole) of Bavaria, KS, and Brad (Jessica) Reed of Salina. His grandchildren, Hannah, Emma, Zakery, Dayton, Donivyn, Zayne, Erica, Madelynn, and Carter. Then he has a Great-Grandbaby Hollister and the pending arrival of Nova, He is also survived by his mother, Connie J (Aills) Asbridge Wilson of Salina, stepmother, Janis Poskey of Washington, IL, Grandmother Betty Aills of Salina. He also had a great love for his siblings, Brothers, Mike (Candi) Asbridge and Douglas Asbridge, both of Salina, Sisters, LeeElla (James) Vittoe and Laura Asbridge, both of Salina, and Jera Lynn (Tegan) McCullough of Washington, IL. He also had many Nieces, Nephews, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and a host of many friends.

Blaine is preceded in death by his father’s, Allen Conrad Reed, and Jerry S. (Jake) Asbridge, Sr. His grandparents LeeElla, Alvin and Winifred Burch, Lester Aills, and Ray Asbridge. He is also preceded in death by a brother, Jerry S. Asbridge, Jr. and Sister, Winifred K. Hall.

Blaine was a member of the Ray Avenue Baptist Church, Salina, which was started by his Uncle Dr. Bob Aills, who preceded him in death.

A Celebration of Blaine’s Life will be at a later date, to be announced.

Joseph Robert “Rob” Harper April 15, 1958 ~ April 3, 2024

Joseph Robert “Rob” Harper, here for a good time, not a long time left this place to join the higher spirits in the sky at 12:08am on April 3, 2024. He was surrounded by his family who are left to walk this world without his big, bold presence, but comforted by the fact that his spirit will continue in all of the family and friends who’s lives he touched.

Rob loved motorcycles, casinos, and his extended, blended family. He loved to tinker and fix broken things, make you laugh, and was always willing to help anyone that needed it. On a nice day you could find him out on a boat enjoying his solitude or out on a golf course riding a golf cart wherever he pleased, as long as it was NOT the designated path.

Rob is survived by his better half of 21 years; Amy Jensen of Salina, KS. Daughters: Heather Schmidt (Steve Allen) of Wichita, KS; and Kelly Hedden (Tommy) of Kentucky. Ashley Dibbens (Derek) of Derby, KS. Alisha Hurd (Caleb Grundy) of Salina, KS; and Caleb Hurd of Kansas. Sisters: Debbie Hop (Tom) of Virginia; and Connie Garcia of Hutchinson, KS. Grandchildren: Alex, Alana (Parker), Eric, Savannah, Easton, Sophie, and Brodie. Jerry L. Watkins March 27, 1953 ~ January 17, 2024

Jerry L. Watkins, 70, passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2024.&nbsp; He was born on March 27, 1953 in Salina to Norma “Norm” and Helen (Kissick) Watkins.&nbsp;

Jerry lived and farmed in Tescott his entire life.&nbsp; In his free time he loved hunting, fishing and his dogs.&nbsp; He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law, Lyle Norland.

He is survived by his sister, Jolene Norland and several cousins.&nbsp; Memorials to the American Heart Association, or the family for expenses, or charity of the donor’s choice.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday April 20, 2024 at Ryan Mortuary.&nbsp; Inurnment will follow at Franklin Cemetery, Tescott.&nbsp;

Gene Edgar Schlesener September 17, 1943 ~ April 4, 2024

Gene Edgar Schlesener&nbsp; passed away on April 4, 2024 at Salina Regional Health Center after his second battle with cancer.

Gene was born on his parents' farm just South of hope on September 17th 1943. After Gene graduated Hope High School in 1961. He went to work and continued to work on the farm.

He was employed at CE later, known as ABB for 35 years. He then began a career at API in Carlton, all the while farming and providing for his family, retiring at the age of 70.October of 1963. He was married to Evelyn J. Rickenbrode. They worked farmed and raised their young family until Evelyn's death in March of 1978.

In August of 1979, Gene was wed to Rhonda Schwartz. They welcomed a son in 1980, but later parted ways in 1991.For twenty seven years, he was the partner and later husband of Patty (Martin) Schlesener, who preceded him in death in 2023.

Gene&nbsp; was an avid farmer and loved all things agriculture.&nbsp; Enjoy tractor polls, drag races and watching cowboy shows.&nbsp; His greatest joy were her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents Ted and Marie; sisters Lavonn and Virginia; son Timothy; son Doug; wife Evelyn; and wife Patty.

He is survived by his sister Marlene of Minnesota; his children, Brad Schlesener, Justin Schlesener and Kimberly (Richardson) Schlesener. Granddaughters Cassie (Ed Kohman), Mara, Robin, Heidi Lexi, Davanne, and Evelyn. Grandson's Cody (Rachel) and Dawson and two great grandchildren, Clara and Reed.

The family suggest memorials to Tammy Walker Cancer Center.&nbsp; A Celebration of Life is scheduled for May 19th from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Hope Annex in Hope, Kansas.

He then began a career at API in Carlton, all the while farming and providing for his family, retiring at the age of 70.October of 1963. He was married to Evelyn J. Rickenbrode. They worked farmed and raised their young family until Evelyn's death in March of 1978.In August of 1979, Gene was wed to Rhonda Schwartz. They welcomed a son in 1980, but later parted ways in 1991.For twenty seven years, he was the partner and later husband of Patty (Martin) Schlesener, who preceded him in death in 2023.Gene&nbsp; was an avid farmer and loved all things agriculture.&nbsp; Enjoy tractor polls, drag races and watching cowboy shows.&nbsp; His greatest joy were her grandchildren and great grandchildren.Gene is preceded in death by his parents Ted and Marie; sisters Lavonn and Virginia; son Timothy; son Doug; wife Evelyn; and wife Patty.He is survived by his sister Marlene of Minnesota; his children, Brad Schlesener, Justin Schlesener and Kimberly (Richardson) Schlesener. Ruth Eileen Phillips, 96, passed away April 9th at The Village Manor, Abilene, KS.She was born June 15, 1927, on a farm in the Gypsum community, to Roy A. and Velma (Beetch) Woods.

After the sudden accidental death of her father in 1932, the family was moved to the Carlton community. She attended the local school and graduated from Abilene High School with the class of 1945. She worked for the American Telephone Company upon graduation.

On May 7th, 1950, she was united in marriage with Dale Walter Phillips in the Carlton Presbyterian Church. To this union three children were born. Dalene Marie, Steven Leroy, and Gerald Duane.

Most of their married life was spent in the Carlton area. She took over the farm as her husband’s health failed, and she also served as a receptionist at Brown Memorial Home later in her life and volunteered with Hospice.

The two most important things in her life were her family and her church, where she was an active lifelong member. While she would have loved to have had her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren live closer, she was proud of the achievements they made as productive citizens and in their business careers.

She is survived by her daughter Dalene Judd, Hayward, WI, her son Jerry and his wife Jean, Austin, TX, and her daughter in law, Sharon Phillips Dowell, Knoxville, TN. She is survived by 6 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dale, son Steve, her parents, her sister Elsie Viola, sister Rose Michau, and brother Carl.

Services are at Martin-Becker-Carlson funeral home, with the viewing and visitation on April 12th from 5:00-7:00pm and the funeral service at the funeral home at 10:30 on Saturday, April 13th. Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery outside of Carlton.

Lester Leroy Mockerman, 89, of Holyrood, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, April 9th, 2024.

Lester was born in Tescott, Kansas on October 16, 1934, a son of Josephine (Meurisse) and Adam Mockerman.

He attended most of his school years at Brookville, where he played on the 1952 winning basketball championship team.

Lester served in the United States Army in Germany from 1957 - 1959.

On March 12, 1961, Lester married Pauline McDowell and to this union, they were blessed with their children, Scott and Tammy.

He worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for Saline County.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline, his children, Scott Mockerman (B.J.) and Tammy Mockerman, 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.

Lester is also survived by his sister, Della Smith, and brother, Victor Mockerman (Myrna).

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Linford Mockerman; and sister, Rose Myers.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Thursday, April 11th at Carlson - Geisendorf Funeral Home, Salina. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, April 12th at Carlson - Geisendorf Funeral Home with Rev. Jason Hutchinson officiating.

Burial will follow at Brookville Cemetery, Brookville, Kansas.

Sheryl “Sherry” Ann Fiedler, 70, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Friday, April 5, 2024, at her son Paul’s home in McPherson.

Sherry was born on March 18, 1954, in Great Bend, KS, the daughter of Anthony Carl and Geraldine Catherine (Leiker) Fiedler.&nbsp; She attended Roosevelt grade school, Park School, McPherson Junior High School and graduated from McPherson High School in 1972.

She was a homemaker, telephone operator for Southwestern Bell, receptionist at Madison Machine Works in Rockford, IL, and waitress at Miss Piggy’s Restaurant in McPherson.&nbsp;

Sherry was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, McPherson. She enjoyed going for walks, watching television, and camping with her family. For the past several years, Sherry enjoyed her friends and activities at Bluestem PACE.

Survivors include: her son, Paul Van Nordstrand of McPherson, KS; siblings, Gail Gill (Tim) of Stanley, NM, Janet Stine (Dan) of Roscoe, IL, Ronald Fiedler (Dee) of McPherson, KS, and Randy Fiedler of Moundridge, KS; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Kim Fiedler, Tony Fiedler, Jr., Roger Fiedler, Gregory Fielder, Duane Fiedler, and Annette Fiedler.

A Rosary will be held at 10:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass, on Friday, April 12, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Michael Kerschen officiating.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Janice Margaret (Clark) Gregg, 85, Barnard, died Sunday, April 7, 2024. She was born in Milo on Friday, May 13, 1938, to Allen and Margaret (Good) Clark.

Janice graduated from Barnard High School in 1956 and attended Kansas State University where she earned a teaching degree. Janice taught at Vesper and Victor before marrying Wade Gregg on June 3, 1962. Later in life she worked as a para at the Lincoln Grade School. Janice was a lifelong member of the Barnard United Methodist Church. She loved to sew and spent many hours making quilts for family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wade; and her brother, Bill Clark.

She is survived by her daughters, Nancy (Wesley) Jensen of Lincoln and Sandy Foulke of Barnard; four grandchildren, Alex Jensen of Alexandria, VA, Josh Foulke of Barnard, and Maggie and Joseph Foulke of Lawrence; and brother, Kent (Jonette) Clark of Stigler, OK.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, April 13 at the Barnard United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Milo Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the United Methodist Women and may be left in care of Wilson Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 166, Minneapolis, KS 67467.

Lola Irene Stock passed away on March 29th, 2024,&nbsp;at the Madison Regional Health System, Madison, South Dakota. Services will be held Tuesday, April 2nd,&nbsp;2024,&nbsp;at the Willoughby Funeral Home, Howard, South Dakota. Visitation Monday evening&nbsp;5:00 –&nbsp;7:00 PM April 1st,&nbsp;and&nbsp;1 hour prior to service.&nbsp;The family&nbsp;will be in attendance.&nbsp;Interment&nbsp;will be at Graceland Cemetery, Howard, South&nbsp;Dakotafollowing the service.

Lola Irene (Perry) Stock was born on May 7th,&nbsp;1934,&nbsp;in Salina, Kansas to Leroy and Viola&nbsp;(Tickel) Perry.&nbsp;Lola spent her childhood in the Salina area. She graduated from Salina High School in 1952. After graduating,&nbsp;she attended Marymount College&nbsp;of Kansas&nbsp;in Salina.&nbsp;Also, she&nbsp;worked as a telephone operator for&nbsp;Southwestern&nbsp;Bell Telephone&nbsp;Company.&nbsp;She met the love of her life at a dance&nbsp;at Smokey Hill Air Force Base&nbsp;–&nbsp;Staff&nbsp;Seargent&nbsp;Otto Duane Stock,&nbsp;who was stationed at the base. &nbsp;The two of them&nbsp;became inseparable. They&nbsp;were&nbsp;engaged and&nbsp;later&nbsp;married&nbsp;on&nbsp;January 23rd, 1955,&nbsp;in Salina. After Duane’s&nbsp;tour in Korea&nbsp;was&nbsp;complete,&nbsp;the couple moved to Brookings, South&nbsp;Dakota&nbsp;while Duane attended South Dakota State&nbsp;University.

Upon graduation,&nbsp;the couple moved to Howard, South&nbsp;Dakota&nbsp;where Duane&nbsp;and Lola&nbsp;worked&nbsp;the family farm&nbsp;with his parents&nbsp;Otto and Sophia. Lola&nbsp;raised four children while&nbsp;making a wonderful home for the family.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was active in the Methodist Church, teaching Sunday school, Bible school and was a member of the church’s ladies aide.

Lola enjoyed raising her children watching as they grew into adults. As the family&nbsp;grew,&nbsp;she enjoyed watching the grandkids in their school and sporting activities.&nbsp;Later in life she enjoyed drawing and water coloring.&nbsp;Lola created many&nbsp;pictures&nbsp;that were given to family members to enjoy and&nbsp;have&nbsp;as keepsakes.&nbsp;Lola was an avid Minnesota Twins fan, even when they played the New York Yankees(Duane’s team).&nbsp;She could tell you after a few innings whether it was&nbsp;“the Twins&nbsp;day”&nbsp;or not.

Those&nbsp;grateful having shared in her life include&nbsp;her&nbsp;four&nbsp;children: Christy&nbsp;Stock&nbsp;(Howard, SD), Shari&nbsp;Gillund&nbsp;(Overland Park, KS),&nbsp;Paul (Marcia)Stock&nbsp;(Salina, KS),&nbsp;William (Becky)&nbsp;Stock&nbsp;(Scottsdale, AZ).&nbsp;4 Grandchildren:&nbsp;Jeremy (Holly) Gillund,&nbsp;Troy (Jayme) Gillund, Joshua Stock,&nbsp;Levi (Madison) Stock.&nbsp;Seven&nbsp;great-grandchildren: Austin Gillund, Paige Gillund, Payton Gillund, Addyson Gillund, Wyatt Gillund, Ella Stock, and James Stock.&nbsp;Also,&nbsp;many&nbsp;nieces, nephews,&nbsp;and friends.

Lola&nbsp;was&nbsp;preceded in death by her husband Duane, Son-In-Law Mike Gillund and Grandson Joshua Stock.&nbsp;

Margaret Lou “Barney” (Barnhill) Roberts, 98, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Friday, April 5, 2024, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell.

Barney was born January 22, 1926, in Tonkawa, Oklahoma.&nbsp; She was one of five children born to George and Anna (Bidwell) Barnhill.&nbsp; Her family resided in Tonkawa a few years before moving to Great Bend, Kansas.&nbsp; She graduated from Great Bend High School in the Class of 1944.

Barney was united in marriage to Donald Lee “Bud” Roberts on July 21, 1946, in Great Bend.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two children; Mac and Lynn.&nbsp; They made their home in Russell.&nbsp; Bud preceded her in death on August 7, 1992.

Barney was a devoted wife and homemaker for her family.&nbsp; She also helped Bud with office work in his business for many years.&nbsp; She worked a short time for Marshall’s Jewelry Store and was very active in the Russell Hospital Gift Store.&nbsp; She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Russell.&nbsp; She was an active member of the Russell Regional Hospital Auxiliary.&nbsp; When she was younger, she belonged to the “Doll for Dole”, which later was known as “Grandmas for Dole”.&nbsp; Barney was a person who loved to volunteer for community activities and loved helping people in need.&nbsp; Bud and she were known for entertaining family and friends.

Barney’s surviving family include her daughter, Lynn Roberts of Concordia, Kansas; her son, Mac Roberts and wife Laura of Weatherford, Texas; brother, Gary D. Barnhill of Newport Beach, California; sister, Willa Mae Fuhr-Hill of Edmond, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Travis Roberts and wife Valerie, Tyler Roberts, Laurie Rea and Maggie Dahl; and four great grandchildren, Peyton, Parker, Lizzie and Sophie.

Barney was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bud; and two brothers, Jim Barnhill and Richard Barnhill.

Celebration of Barney’s Life will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell.&nbsp; Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, with family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.&nbsp; In lieu of flowers, two Memorials have been established with Russell Reginal Hospital Auxiliary or First Congregation Church.&nbsp; Contributions and condolences may be sent to the Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.

Marvin D. Copple, age 87, of Concordia, KS, passed away on Friday April 5, 2024, at home surrounded by his family. &nbsp; &nbsp;Marvin was born January 22, 1937, in Bennington, KS to the late Allen and Clema (Alderson) Copple. &nbsp;He was the oldest of five children, one preceded him in death, Patsy Brown Zimmerman Appleby.

Marvin was raised and attended School in Delphos, KS. &nbsp;Marvin worked for his Uncle Art Copple in construction and plumbing, later worked for McDonald, Clark and Brown Plumbing before opening his own business, Copple Plumbing and Heating, retiring in 2009. &nbsp;

Marvin married Ronalda Cote on October 19, 1958, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Concordia, KS and five children were born from this union: Ronald, Mike, Mark, Cheryl and Darryl Dean.

Marvin enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, wood working, making bird houses and toy guns, but most of all loved being with friends, family especially spending time with the grandkids, laughing and fishing. &nbsp;He was a loving and caring person, devoted husband, father, and friend.

Ralph H. Viola March 21, 1928 ~ March 31, 2024

Ralph passed on Easter morning and our goodbyes are with the solar eclipse. Ralph just celebrated his 96th year. Born in Abilene, March 21, 1928 to Vernon and Ozetta (Shetron) Viola. The middle of 5 children. If you see a Viola store due bill coin, that is Ralph at age 5 printed on it. As a young teen, he delivered telegrams and once delivered birthday greetings from President Roosevelt to Eisenhower’s mother. He was treasurer of his 1948 Abilene class. Graduating from Kansas State University, he later earned his Master’s in Business. Ralph retired from Boeing after 45+ years.

Ralph met wife Marian Nagely in college when she asked him to a Sadie Hawkins dance. They started their adventures together in May 1950. Enjoying 53 years traveling, living in 5 states, 5 years in Tehran, Iran, 2 years in Montreal. Traveled through all 50 states, all Canadian Provinces, 34 countries and US territories.

After Marian’s death in 2003. Ralph returned to Abilene and married Avis (Clark) Wells. Introducing her travel for 10 years until her death in 2013.

He crossed the equator, the Arctic Circle, drove thru Alaska-Cascade Hwy, made a trip around the world and flew on 45+ air carriers. He parachuted, went up in air balloons, helicopters and multiple different aircraft. Ralph served in the Army and the Air Force, retiring as a Major.

He achieved his pilot’s license. Was a member of several air museums and supported Abilene Aviation. Owner of 2 airplanes, his joy was his L2, Taylor Craft. A cloth covered prop plane. He helped restore and display FIFI, a WWII B29 Bomber.

Ralph loved life, taking an interest in all it had to offer. Generous to a fault, he never understood why anyone would not do a kindness when they had the opportunity. Stubborn, independent and much loved.Proceeded in death by his brothers Vern, Bob, Don and sister Ilene (Favand). Survived by his children Ralph Viola, Cindy (Dainard), Toni and husband David (Pearson). Grandchildren Jeasen and Anji Viola, Samuel, wife Amy, and Meriah Dainard, Laura and Anna Pearson. All of Washington State.

Services will be Monday, April 8, 10:30 am at 1st Southern Baptist Church, 1400 Mulberry St in Abilene. Visitation will be Sunday, April 7, 2024 from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW 3rd, Abilene.

Memorials may be made through Martin-Becker-Carlson to the 4H, Abilene Airport, Mt Pleasant Presbyterian, Abilene Historical Museum, The Arts Council, Neighbor to Neighbor, The Great Plains Theatre or the Community Foundation of Dickinson County.

Dorothy Jean Wells September 30, 1933 ~ April 7, 2024

Dorothy Jean Aebi Wells went to heaven to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 7, 2024, at age 90. She was born on September 30, 1933, in Herington, KS to Milton and Marjorie (Johnson) Aebi. She was the granddaughter of a Swiss immigrant. She grew up on the family farm north of Woodbine and graduated as valedictorian of the class of 1951 from Woodbine High School. She had only one sibling, Darrell, who died in a car accident in 1961. Jean married her lifelong love, Albert Edward Wells of Dade County, GA, on August 22, 1951, in The Chapel of the Transfiguration in Grand Teton National Park, WY. Al preceded her to heaven on August 7, 2022.

They made their home in Enterprise for most of their 70 years of marriage.

Jean was a homemaker while her children were young, and later worked at Froelich’s Grocery Store in Enterprise, and then at the Dickinson County Bank. She was a member of Enterprise EHU and served on the Enterprise Library Board.She attended Emmanuel Church in Abilene and was active in a women's Bible study until her health prohibited it.

In addition to Al, she was also preceded in death by her parents, her brother Darrell Aebi, and son-in-law Ray Van Sickle.

Jean is survived by her daughter Christiane Van Sickle of Newton, and son Kenyon (Kathy) of Olathe. Also, grandchildren Melodi (Caleb) Wood, Brent (Jennifer) Van Sickle, Abbie Bazan and Ashley (Francisco) Pacheco as well as 7 great-grandchildren: Shane and Sawyer Wood, Brook, Braden and Bryce Van Sickle, and Jude and Oliver Bazan. She was devoted to her family.

A funeral service will be held at Danner Funeral Home, 501 N. Buckeye in Abilene on Friday, April 12th at 2:00, with her grandsons Pastor Brent Van Sickle and Pastor Caleb Wood officiating. The family will receive friends for 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in the Woodbine Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Church. The family would like to thank the staff of Garten Countryside Home for their loving and compassionate care.

Al preceded her to heaven on August 7, 2022.They made their home in Enterprise for most of their 70 years of marriage.Jean was a homemaker while her children were young, and later worked at Froelich’s Grocery Store in Enterprise, and then at the Dickinson County Bank. She was a member of Enterprise EHU and served on the Enterprise Library Board.She attended Emmanuel Church in Abilene and was active in a women's Bible study until her health prohibited it.In addition to Al, she was also preceded in death by her parents, her brother Darrell Aebi, and son-in-law Ray Van Sickle.Jean is survived by her daughter Christiane Van Sickle of Newton, and son Kenyon (Kathy) of Olathe. Also, grandchildren Melodi (Caleb) Wood, Brent (Jennifer) Van Sickle, Abbie Bazan and Ashley (Francisco) Pacheco as well as 7 great-grandchildren: Shane and Sawyer Wood, Brook, Braden and Bryce Van Sickle, and Jude and Oliver Bazan. She was devoted to her family.A funeral service will be held at Danner Funeral Home, 501 N. Buckeye in Abilene on Friday, April 12th at 2:00, with her grandsons Pastor Brent Van Sickle and Pastor Caleb Wood officiating. The family will receive friends for 30 minutes before the service. Don’s life began on September 5, 1932, at Bethel Deaconess Hospital in Newton, Kansas. He was the son of John and Marie (Mueller) Mosiman. Don was a 1950 graduate of Whitewater High School. Don served his country in the United States Army from 1953 until 1955, where he trained scout dogs in Germany until his honorable discharge. He was united in marriage to Marilyn R. Schuessler on September 2, 1955, at the Valley Center First Baptist Church. Don was a stockman and farmer in the rural Furley area for his entire life. He served on the Green Valley Cemetery Board from 1989-2017, the Furley Grade School Board, the Furley Grain Company Board. &nbsp;He was a member of &nbsp;Palmyra Baptist Church, serving in the past as treasurer and a trustee. &nbsp;The family was named the Sedgwick County Farm Family of the Year in 1996. His loving family surviving him &nbsp;includes his wife of 68 years, Marilyn Mosiman; children Rhonda Mosiman of El Dorado, Bret (Julie) Mosiman of Benton, Diane (Allen) Hosler of El Dorado, Tracy (Dennis) Boldt of Hillsboro and Carolyn ( Bronson) Webb of El Dorado; grandchildren Cort Mosiman, Ellen Youngman, Addie Entz, Matthew Webb, Anna Webb, Katie Webb, Daniel Webb, &nbsp;Lane Hosler, Brooke Hosler, Dillon Boldt and Dawson Boldt; six great grandchildren; and sister Elizabeth&nbsp;Bowlin, brothers Wayne Mosiman and Duane Mosiman, sister in law Madeline Mosiman; and numerous nieces and nephews. &nbsp;Don passed away on Friday April 5, 2024, at Kidron Bethel in North Newton. &nbsp;Norma Jean Bird July 17, 1938 ~ March 28, 2024

Norma Jean Bird, 85, passed away in her home in El Dorado, KS on March 28, 2024, and went to be with Jesus. &nbsp;Norma was born and raised in Springfield, MO to Mack and Mable Whitlock. After high school she moved around the country and overseas with her first husband Don Bird and their four children with the military. Norma and Don settled in Ramona, KS where she lived for almost 30 years. Her and Don were married for almost 50 years before he proceeded her in death in 2006.

In 2008, she found love again and was married to Zeb Wright. They celebrated almost 16 wonderful loving years together. While Norma suffered from many health issues over the past several years, Zeb made it his life’s mission to help care for her at home. They often both said that everyone should get the opportunity to share a love like theirs in their lifetime.

For much of her life, she was an antique dealer and ran her store Norma’s Attic in Ramona and Herington, KS. She also worked in home health. Norma loved to watch things grow, whether it was her gorgeous gardens, the children she taught in Sunday school, or her grandchildren’s bellies as she cooked delicious meals. She had an amazing green thumb and was known for her beautiful flower beds, ponds, orchards and vegetable gardens. Cooking meals fresh from the garden was one of her favorite things to do. You were quite lucky if you were the one enjoying it! &nbsp;She was an amazing cook! Norma was also a follower of Jesus and loved everyone. &nbsp;She would remind everyone, that Jesus is love. She attended Rosebank Church for many years where she taught Sunday school as well as being a board member. She loved volunteering and helping others. Many families in need would often come to her for food or household supplies. She would never turn anyone needing help away and she always made everyone feel special and loved. She would be upset if we failed to mention she was a very proud democrat! &nbsp;If you knew her, she could be quite ornery, mischievous, and full of pure love, leading her to have a very special bond and relationship with all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She would always tell each of them they were her very favorite. Her family was her greatest joy and blessing.

Norma is proceeded in death by her first husband Donald Bird Sr, son Donald (Donnie) Bird Jr, her parents and two siblings.

She is survived by her husband Zeb Wright, daughters Fern Leach, Cindy Bird, and Julie Bird (Mark), Grand Children, Jennifer Davis (Robert), Rachel Fenske (Jason), Mathew Leach, Joshua Leach (Ciara), Michael Shearer (Lacey), Katrina Frigault (Karen). Great Grand Children Alexander Fenske, Benjamin Davis, Isaac Fenske, Karter Shearer, Alayna Leach, Kade Shearer, Lily Fenske, Olyvia Darwin, and Dallas Shearer.

Her family will hold a private family celebration of life. In lieu of flowers or memorial we ask that you do an act of kindness in remembrance of Norma. She was the pure definition of love and the rock of our family. She will be missed beyond measure.

Floyd “Stan” Standridge, Jr., 81, Salina, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2024. Stan was born September 19, 1942 in Sallisaw, OK, the son of Floyd Sr.&nbsp; and Voyce Irene (Brewer) Standridge. He held 2 Masters Degrees and was proud to be an educator for 44 years. Stan spent most of his extensive career as a guidance counselor at Salina South High School where he supported countless young people as they navigated the path through high school and the first steps beyond graduation.&nbsp; He was honored to be recognized as 1998 Kansas Master Teacher of the Year and was selected to be a Fulbright Teacher Memorial Fund to Japan honoree.&nbsp; He held many leadership positions in various professional, religious and civic organizations throughout his life and career.&nbsp; Stan was a devout Christian having served his home church, Salina First Church of the Nazarene in countless ways over the years.&nbsp; He loved doing genealogy research, reading American and Egyptian History, learning about NASA and space science, and was the best listener and problem solver in the whole world.

Most importantly, Stan was known by all who knew him as a man of God with great integrity who was loyal, steadfast and deeply devoted to his beloved wife, his family and his community.

He is preceded in death by his Mother and Father.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sharon, daughter Jennifer Segal (Peter) of Cumberland, ME, son Brian (Bridgette) Standridge of Salina, grandchildren Quincy Segal, Charles Segal and Jack Segal; sister Dorthea (Bob) Baker, of Barnsdall, OK; his brothers and sisters-in-law as well as many nieces and nephews, and his bonus “found” family Sheila and Joe Barber, Devin Barber, Desmond Barber, Denae (Brandon) Harris, and their children.

Visitation will be Tuesday, April 9, 2024 from 11-2 pm and Funeral Service at 2 pm, both at the First Church of the Nazarene.

Betty (Kristenson) Barnes, 95, of Ottawa, KS died Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at Advent Health Hospital in Ottawa, Kansas.

She was born February 1, 1929 in Pomona, Kansas the daughter of Wilbur Harry and Lucille (Hartpence) Kristenson.&nbsp; She graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1947.&nbsp;

On June 29, 1948, Betty was united in marriage to Donald Lee Barnes at North Baptist Church in Ottawa, Kansas.&nbsp;

Betty was first and most importantly a home-maker, but she also worked a few years for Hallmark in the packaging department.

Betty was known as a wonderful cook.&nbsp; Meals were at 8:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., and 5:00 p.m. every day.&nbsp; Her bologna sandwiches were gourmet, along with chicken and noodles, gravy made with a secret potato water, and dessert including pie crusts. For potlucks, she was requested to make pie, red velvet cake, and German chocolate cake.&nbsp; She would also can various foods.&nbsp; Betty enjoyed playing BINGO, playing cards, and square dancing with her husband and friends. She also enjoyed occasional fishing in her younger years and she was quite the athlete when she was in high school, playing softball and basketball. She loved mowing on the riding mower out in the “weed patch” or their small pasture during the summer. She enjoyed keeping a garden of flowers and some vegetables as well.&nbsp;Grandma Betty was a faithful and enthusiastic fan of all of her grandkids’ and great-grandkids’ activities and sporting events! She was known as ornery and liked to play tricks.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Lucille Kristenson; her husband, Donald Barnes; a son, Larry Barnes; a brother, Wilbur Kristenson, Jr.; and a sister, Dorothy Nadine Nitcher.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda Ferris and her husband, Jim, of Ottawa, KS; two grandsons, Terry James Ferris and his wife, Beverly, of Edwardsville, KS and Michael Lee Ferris of Kansas City, KS; a granddaughter, Amy Alfrey and her husband, John, of Junction City, KS; a daughter-in-law, Anne Barnes of Ottawa, KS; eight great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Janice Elizabeth (Christiason) Masters November 23, 1947 ~ April 2, 2024

Janice Elizabeth (Christiason) Masters, 76, of Council Grove, KS died Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at Ascension Via Christi Hospital, Manhattan, Kansas.

She was born November 23, 1947 in Barclay, Kansas the daughter of Homer Allen Christiason and Lucille Irene (Davis) Christiason.&nbsp; She grew up in Osage City graduating from Osage City High School with the class of 1965.&nbsp;

On December 5, 1975, Janice was united in marriage to Jimmie Marshall Masters in Council Grove, Kansas. They enjoyed 45 years of loving marriage and travelling to places like Colorado, Alaska on a cruise, Coolidge, AZ, and Germany until Jimmie’s passing on March 27, 2021.&nbsp; They loved being snow birds and being in Arizona or out west during the winter months. &nbsp;

Janice worked as a brake press operator for Kansas Instruments in Council Grove, KS for many years.&nbsp; She also was a generous volunteer at the Council Grove Senior Center.&nbsp;

Janice was an avid reader, especially murder mysteries.&nbsp; Along with her sister Phyllis, she enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune, and they would text each other to see who could guess the puzzle first.&nbsp; Janice also liked bowling.&nbsp; She loved teacup poodles, and enjoyed putting up bird feeders to attract hummingbirds.&nbsp; Janice was always on Facebook.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Lucille Christiason; her husband, Jimmie Masters; two sisters, Marlene Shepard and Phyllis Doll; and four brothers, Jerry, Robert, Richard, and Mike Christiason.

She is survived by a son, David Alan Venable and his wife, Peggy, of Houston, TX; a sister, Rita Christiason of Osage City, KS; 6 grandchildren, Lauren Mitro, Rowyn Smith, Danielle Hostettler, Emily Williams, Ayla Allinson, and Darian Venable; and 12 great-grandchildren.

 </figure>Janice Elizabeth (Christiason) Masters November 23, 1947 ~ April 2, 2024Janice Elizabeth (Christiason) Masters, 76, of Council Grove, KS died Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at Ascension Via Christi Hospital, Manhattan, Kansas.She was born November 23, 1947 in Barclay, Kansas the daughter of Homer Allen Christiason and Lucille Irene (Davis) Christiason.&nbsp; She grew up in Osage City graduating from Osage City High School with the class of 1965.&nbsp;On December 5, 1975, Janice was united in marriage to Jimmie Marshall Masters in Council Grove, Kansas. They enjoyed 45 years of loving marriage and travelling to places like Colorado, Alaska on a cruise, Coolidge, AZ, and Germany until Jimmie’s passing on March 27, 2021.&nbsp; They loved being snow birds and being in Arizona or out west during the winter months. &nbsp;Janice worked as a brake press operator for Kansas Instruments in Council Grove, KS for many years.&nbsp; She also was a generous volunteer at the Council Grove Senior Center.&nbsp;Janice was an avid reader, especially murder mysteries.&nbsp; Along with her sister Phyllis, she enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune, and they would text each other to see who could guess the puzzle first.&nbsp; Janice also liked bowling.&nbsp; She loved teacup poodles, and enjoyed putting up bird feeders to attract hummingbirds.&nbsp; Janice was always on Facebook.&nbsp;She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Lucille Christiason; her husband, Jimmie Masters; two sisters, Marlene Shepard and Phyllis Doll; and four brothers, Jerry, Robert, Richard, and Mike Christiason.She is survived by a son, David Alan Venable and his wife, Peggy, of Houston, TX; a sister, Rita Christiason of Osage City, KS; 6 grandchildren, Lauren Mitro, Rowyn Smith, Danielle Hostettler, Emily Williams, Ayla Allinson, and Darian Venable; and 12 great-grandchildren.Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 8, 2024 at the Federated Church of Burlingame, Burlingame, KS.&nbsp; Interment will follow at Sunny Slope Cemetery in Council Grove, KS.&nbsp; To celebrate Janice’s life, a visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, April 7, 2024 at Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, 503 S Topeka Ave, Burlingame, KS 66413.&nbsp; Memorial contributions may be made to Council Grove Senior Center and sent c/o Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, P.O.
