Morton Kenneth Nikkel, 92, died Tuesday, September 26, 2023. Mr. Nikkel was born 5 miles northeast of Corn, Oklahoma on December 24, 1930. the son of Jacob E. and Martha (Koch) Nikkel. His early childhood was spent living on a farm near Corn and Weatherford, Oklahoma, where he also attended the first three years of school.

In March 1940, the Nikkel family moved to Wilson County, Kansas near Lafontaine, where they lived during the years of WWII. In the autumn of 1946, the family moved to Arkansas City, Kansas. Here Morton attended the city high school for his sophomore and junior years.&nbsp;In January 1947, he surrendered to the wooing of the Holy Spirit and received Jesus Christ as his Savior.After serving thousands of patients from 36 different states, with Mrs. Nikkel working as his receptionist and clinic assistant, the practice was sold and they retired in 1991. It was here that God led him to the lovely, young lady, Doris Lorene Sawatzky, who would become the love of his life.&nbsp;War was raging in Korea in 1950, so Morton chose to serve his country as a member of the United States Air Force.&nbsp; He enlisted on Jan 3, 1951 and received specialized training as a B-29 bomber airplane and engine mechanic. He served in Texas and Colorado in his early years with the Air Force.&nbsp;On March 1st, 1952, Morton and Doris Lorene were united in marriage in Wichita Falls, Texas. The Lord blessed this union with two daughters, Corliss Marlene and Cheryl Lynn. As a joint family, the Nikkels lived in Denver, Colorado, Wichita Falls, Texas, and briefly at Weatherford, Oklahoma, where Morton left his family in January 1956, when he departed for duty in England. So, the family was reunited in Peterborough, England, where they lived until he was transferred to Great Falls, Montana in August 1958.In December 1960, Morton was honorably discharged from the Air Force and the family moved to Missouri, where he went to Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City. Upon graduation, a chiropractic practice was established in Clay Center, Kansas.&nbsp;

Larry C. Doud, 79, Minneapolis, died Tuesday, September 26, 2023, in Salina.&nbsp; He was born November 30, 1943, in Salina to Carl and Marie (Kopf) Doud.&nbsp; He will receive just reward in the hereafter.

Larry retired from being a District Soil Conservationist and he was a lifelong farmer.

He is survived by his wife, Lucia, of Minneapolis; daughters, Patricia Minard and her husband, Joe of Cheney and Catherine Doud of Concordia; brother, B. Leon Doud and his wife, Janet of St. Paul, MN; grandchildren, Mike Minard and his wife, Kathy of Leavenworth, Jenny Crawford and her husband, John of Golden, CO, and Valerie Green and her husband, Lonnie of Denver, CO; and four great-grandchildren.

Marvin LeRoy “Swede” Norstrom, 79, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.&nbsp;

LeRoy was born on November 8, 1943, in McPherson, KS, the son of Milton and Pearl (Nash) Norstrom.&nbsp; He graduated from Roxbury High School in 1961. LeRoy was a resident of McPherson since 1969, moving from Roxbury, KS.&nbsp; He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era.&nbsp; He retired from the NCRA Refinery where he worked as a welder.

On February 22, 1969, he married Jeanne Kay Grauerholz at the First United Methodist Church in McPherson.&nbsp; They were blessed with two children, Starla Joy and Christopher DeMonte.&nbsp; Jeanne preceded LeRoy in death on March 9, 2018.

Survivors include daughter, Starla Wicker and husband, Brian, of Glendale, AZ; son, Chris Norstrom of Phoenix, AZ; three grandchildren, Sydney and Mason Wicker and Crystian Norstrom; brother, Kenneth Norstrom of McPherson, KS; sister-in-law, Sherry Ray of Bedford, IN; nieces, Brenda Becker and husband, Gene, of Wichita, KS, Angie Cundiff and husband, Tony, of Bedford, IN, and Shawna Pemberton and husband, P.I., of Mitchell, IN; and several great and great-great nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; parents-in-law, Rex &amp; Iris Grauerholz; sister-in-law, Fern Norstrom; and brother-in-law, Bob Ray.

A private family graveside service will be held at&nbsp;the McPherson Cemetery.&nbsp;

Susan Ann Doolittle, 64, passed away on September 17, 2023 at Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, KS.

Susan was born on September 17, 1959 in Paterson, NJ to parents John Adolph and Gloria Evelyn (Smith) Lillman.

Susan was a kind, caring, and generous person with a strong faith in God. She was always happy to help others. Holidays in particular were a special time for Susan. You could always count on her setting an extra plate out at her table in case you had nowhere else to go. She was known as "the kind woman who took in stray people and stray animals". Susan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, and loved animals. Her family was her greatest joy and she always went out of her way to make sure they were taken care of and they always felt loved. In her spare time she enjoyed putting puzzles together, reading, crocheting, playing cards, fishing, gardening, and taking walks.

She was preceded in death by Gloria Lillman (Mother), John Lillman (Father), Loretta Robbins (Daughter).

Susan is survived by her husband Alton J. Doolittle, Jr.; Children Joyce Bowers and spouse Tom of Minneapolis, KS, Alton J. Doolittle, III of Salina, KS; 8 Grandchildren: Crystal Anderson and her husband Morgan Anderson, Joshua Bowers, Zackary Huurre, Meshick Bowers, Erik Bowers, Tala Robbins, Gabrielle Bowers, and Susan Bowers. Susan Ann Doolittle

Patricia “Pat” L. Nippert, 71, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, surrounded by her family at her home in Manhattan, KS.&nbsp; Pat was a lifelong Reading Specialist for multiple educational grade levels and retired from McPherson EMS.&nbsp;

Pat was born on September 26, 1951, in Wichita, KS, the daughter of Gail Edward and Marjorie Emma (Jenetzky) Stauffer.&nbsp; She graduated from Wichita North High School, McPherson College (BS), and Wichita State University (MS).&nbsp; On December 18, 1971, Pat was united in marriage to Ward A. Nippert in Wichita, KS.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two children, Jesse and Heather.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, where she was the librarian and treasurer for the Ruth Heimer DWF.&nbsp; She was also a member of the Kansas Reading Association, KSEMS Association, and Kansas Good Sam’s, where she was the treasurer of the state organization.&nbsp; She volunteered at Save N Share, McPherson Museum, and McPherson Emergency Medical Service (prior to having a paid position).&nbsp;

Survivors include her loving husband of 51 years, Ward Nippert of Manhattan, KS; son, Jesse (Anna) Nippert of Wamego, KS; daughter, Heather (Daniel) Dannahower of Fort Collins, CO; six grandchildren, Kalea Nippert, Miah Dannahower, Kyra Nippert, William Dannahower, Lucia Nippert, and Livia Nippert; and a brother, James Stauffer of Elkhorn, NE.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A time of remembrance (come &amp; go) will take place from 3:00 p.m. until 5 p.m., with a time of sharing occurring at 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.&nbsp; A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, October 2, at the First Christian Church, McPherson, with Pastor Lynn Scott officiating.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Nippert, 71, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, surrounded by her family at her home in Manhattan, KS.&nbsp; Pat was a lifelong Reading Specialist for multiple educational grade levels and retired from McPherson EMS.&nbsp;Pat was born on September 26, 1951, in Wichita, KS, the daughter of Gail Edward and Marjorie Emma (Jenetzky) Stauffer.&nbsp; She graduated from Wichita North High School, McPherson College (BS), and Wichita State University (MS).&nbsp; On December 18, 1971, Pat was united in marriage to Ward A. Nippert in Wichita, KS.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two children, Jesse and Heather.She was a member of the First Christian Church, where she was the librarian and treasurer for the Ruth Heimer DWF.&nbsp; She was also a member of the Kansas Reading Association, KSEMS Association, and Kansas Good Sam’s, where she was the treasurer of the state organization.&nbsp; She volunteered at Save N Share, McPherson Museum, and McPherson Emergency Medical Service (prior to having a paid position).&nbsp;Survivors include her loving husband of 51 years, Ward Nippert of Manhattan, KS; son, Jesse (Anna) Nippert of Wamego, KS; daughter, Heather (Daniel) Dannahower of Fort Collins, CO; six grandchildren, Kalea Nippert, Miah Dannahower, Kyra Nippert, William Dannahower, Lucia Nippert, and Livia Nippert; and a brother, James Stauffer of Elkhorn, NE.She was preceded in death by her parents.A time of remembrance (come &amp; go) will take place from 3:00 p.m. until 5 p.m., with a time of sharing occurring at 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.&nbsp; A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, October 2, at the First Christian Church, McPherson, with Pastor Lynn Scott officiating.&nbsp;&nbsp;In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The Nature Conservancy of Kansas, the First Christian Church, or McPherson Public Library in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.Personal condolences may be sent to the family at&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stockhamfamily.com">www.stockhamfamily.com</a>.

Warren "Wes" Eugene Spratlen, 79, passed away on September 12, 2023 in Salina, KS.

Wes was born on November 14, 1943 in Marysville, CA to parents James Harold Spratlen and Geneva Jane (LaCoe) Sands.

Wes was a Lance Corporal in the Marine Corps and Marine Corps Reserve.

Wes worked as a roofer and a builder and studied Diesel Technology at Salina Area Technical College.

Wes loved fishing, hunting, camping, and playing cards. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and loved to watch them play sports and participate in school plays. Wes could strike up a conversation about anything with anyone and always had a story to tell.

Warren Eugene Spratlen

Horst Eigruber, 84, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2023, surrounded by family at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.&nbsp; He was a past President of American Maplan.

Horst was born on August 8, 1939, in Linz, Austria, the son of August and Johanna (Spazenegger) Eigruber.&nbsp; On October 14, 1983, Horst was united in marriage to Irmengard Schoelderle at Feldafing, Germany.

He was an Austrian Army Veteran and was a member of the McPherson American Legion Post #24.

Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 40 years, Irmengard of the home; four children, Barbara Sattler (Alexander) of Austria, Sebastian Eigruber (Barbara) of Austria, Ferdi Eigruber of McPherson, KS, and Anna Anders (Eric) of Denver, CO; three grandchildren, Isabella Sattler, Paul Eigruber, and Pia Eigruber; a sister, Inge Resch of Austria; and many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and one sister.

Rita Marie Owens, 82, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2023, surrounded by family at Hospice House, Hutchinson.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Rita was born on October 27, 1940, in York, NE, the daughter of Louis Vincent and Helen Marie (Haupt) Kaspari.&nbsp; She graduated from McPherson High School in 1958.&nbsp; She worked as a secretary for Farmers Alliance Mutual Insurance and CertainTeed.

On March 19, 1960, Rita was united in marriage to John “Johnny” Everett Owens in McPherson, KS.&nbsp; This union was blessed with three children, Terri, Jeff, and Julie.&nbsp; Johnny preceded Rita in death on June 5, 2017.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Survivors include three children, Terri (Mark) Archer of McPherson, KS, Jeff Owens of McPherson, KS, and Julie (Lyle) Silsby of Canton, KS; six grandchildren, Jason (Samantha) Archer, Craig (Haley) Archer, Travis (Juliana) Myers, Taylor (Darci) Myers, Leah Silsby, and Garrett Silsby; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy (Steve) Ulrey of Houston, TX; sisters-in-law, Enid Wilmeth of Ft. Collins, CO and Pearl Kaspari of Sutherland, NE; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers, Bernard Kaspari and James Kaspari.

Rita Marie Owens

Winifred Jane (McHenry) Garlow, age 102, died September 14, 2023, in San Diego, California. She died peacefully surrounded by her three children at BonitaView Hospice House. 

She was born on May 27, 1921, on a farm near Cameron, Missouri, to Lester Earl and Elsie Grace (Madison) McHenry. She attended Mt. Pleasant and Wamsley Rural Grade Schools in DeKalb County, Missouri, and later District 21 (Pleasant Valley) Grade School in Cloud County, Kansas. 

She moved with her parents when she was twelve years old to a farm near Ames, Kansas. She graduated from Clyde, Kansas High School in 1939. 

Growing up, she and her two sisters were known for their beautiful harmony as the McHenry Sisters Trio.

On April 5, 1940, she married James Burtis Garlow at Morgan Chapel Wesleyan Church (a rural church). They farmed in the Ames community. While farming, the family received the Cloud County Balanced Farm Award in 1956.&nbsp;

Winifred loved to tell the story of how she and Burtis met. At age 12, Winifred moved with her parents and two sisters to a farm near Ames, Kansas (about 200 miles west of Kansas City), to the same rural school district that the Garlows attended. 

She was in the 7th&nbsp;grade with Burtis’ youngest sister and would frequently get to go home with his sister and see Burtis. He had graduated from high school the year before. 

She fell in love with Burtis when she was 12 years old. They started dating when she was 16 and then married when she was 18 and he was 24.&nbsp;

In 1965, Winifred and Burtis organized a quartet called the AstroNotes, composed of their twin sons Bob and Bill, age 9, nephew Don Garlow, age 10, and their pastor’s son Daniel Seitz, age 9, singing only sacred music. 

They were often joined by brother Jim (guitar), sister Judy (piano), cousin Janet (piano), brother-in-law Dick (bass guitar) and Winifred occasionally soloed. They traveled for 8 ½ years over 9 states, singing in over 500 concerts.

Following retirement from farming in 1981, they moved to various locations to be near their three children. This included two years in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one year in Olathe, Kansas (Kansas City area); and 12 years in Bedford, Texas (Dallas-Forth Worth area).&nbsp;

Winifred helped Burtis with farming and she did not work outside the home until 1981 after moving to Oklahoma City. At age 61, she took a secretarial course for one year at the then new Francis Tuttle Vo-Tec School in Oklahoma City. 

She went to work for Kelly Services. Then while living back in Olathe, she took a course at Johnson County Community College, learning the computer. They later moved to Dallas/Fort Worth area where their son, Jim, had started a new church. 

Winifred, at age 63, was Jim’s church administrative assistant, before going to work in Dallas at the Headquarters of American Airlines in the Consumer Relations Department. Winifred and Burtis enjoyed flying on many trips.

After her retirement at age 75, in May 1996, they moved to La Mesa, California in the San Diego area, where their son Jim had become Senior Pastor of Skyline Wesleyan Church.

In retirement, Winifred enjoyed doing transcription work for Skyline Church and her son Jim’s books, and for her daughter Judy’s book. 

She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, making quilts, reading and jigsaw puzzles. She especially enjoyed being with her family. She also had a passion for roses and watching her hummingbirds.

Winifred was a longtime member of the Wesleyan Church and served the Kansas District as Secretary of the Women’s Missionary Society. 

Winifred, along with her husband, Burtis, was a charter member of The Gideons International of the Concordia, Kansas Camp in 1969 and she served as a local and state officer in the Kansas Gideon Auxiliary. 

She served as secretary/treasurer of the PTA at Rural District 6 and Concordia Lincoln School where their children attended. She was a member of the La Mesa (California) Gideon Auxiliary Camp and served as Scripture Distribution Secretary.

At age 101, She received Oklahoma Wesleyan University Honorary Alumnus Award of 2022 for support of Christian Education, for raising support for youth to attend a Christian college. They sent all four of their children to Christian Schools.

She was on the Well Versed - World Prayer Network Prayer Calls without fail for almost three years twice a week, three hours each time, until her homegoing.&nbsp;

Survivors include their children, daughter Judy Garlow Wade, La Mesa, California; two sons: Dr. Jim Garlow (Rosemary), El Cajon, California; Dr. Bill Garlow (Laurie), Salina, Kansas; 12grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Burtis Garlow in 1998; daughter Jane Ann, age 10 ½ months in 1942; son Robert (Bob) Earl Garlow, age 19 in 1974; one&nbsp;grandson, Christopher William Garlow, age 21 in 2009; daughter-in-law, Carol Jane Garlow in 2013; son-in-law Keat Wade, on Aug 27, 2023; and two sisters: Vivian Crouse, age 91 in 2011, Betty Sessoms age 97 in 2020. She was the last surviving member of the Joshua and Ruby (Cyre) Garlow family of eight Garlow siblings and their eight spouses.

Two&nbsp;Memorials will be held: at Skyline Wesleyan, La Mesa, California, on Thursday evening September 21, 6 p.m. viewing; 6:30 p.m. service; 8 p.m. desserts; then at Concordia Wesleyan Church, Concordia, Kansas on Sunday afternoon, September 24, 2 p.m. viewing; 2:30 p.m. funeral; 4:30 burial at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Ames, Kansas, on a hill overlooking the farmstead where she and her husband raised their family.

After a courageous and relentless battle with mental illness, Justin Joseph Dalzell, son, brother, and friend to all – took his life on September 9, 2023, in his Kansas home. He was 32 years old.&nbsp;

Born on February 14, 1991, to Kevin and Charity Dalzell, Justin’s magnetic personality was apparent early in life as he became a favorite of friends, family, teachers and anyone else lucky enough to cross the vibrant boy’s path. He attended Lake Leelanau St. Mary pre-k through 2nd grade before transferring to Suttons Bay schools where he graduated in 2009.&nbsp;

During his education Justin excelled both in the classroom as a student and on the pitch as a delightfully skilled soccer player.&nbsp;

Justin was a companion to those whom he worked with. Someone you could confide in, trust and get sage advice from. You could lean on him when times were tough, all the while he was fighting his own battle stoically in the background.&nbsp;

Justin’s knowledge was vast and that would show whenever anyone was fortunate enough to watch an episode of Jeopardy with him. He was a talented cook who loved to share his gift in the kitchen with friends and family.&nbsp;

Always an essential part of holiday meals making it to the table and keeping spirits high as family members would wrestle with what to do about a broken hollandaise.&nbsp;

In his time away from the line Justin had a variety of interests, passions and happy places. A favorite activity during Summer days was long hikes to beautiful beaches and simply taking in the serene views.&nbsp;

He had an appreciation for nature and the peace it provided. It also wasn’t uncommon for him to go for a drive just to listen to music; Mac Miller a constant in his car.&nbsp;

When needing to scratch the competitive itch that was once filled by soccer, Justin turned to disc golf where his natural athleticism was easily observed.&nbsp;

Simply put, Justin was fun. No matter where life took him, you could find Justin with a smile. It could be the corniest thing in the world that others would be “too cool” for, but never Justin, he never took himself too seriously.&nbsp;

He found a way to make every situation fun, attacked it with joy and just generally understood how his positivity and spirit would lift those around him. This is no more evident than in stories from those who worked with Justin, no matter the workplace his dance moves preceded him. Essential in the boiler room that a professional kitchen can be, Justin provided the heart, joy and zest for life.

Justin is predeceased by his grandfather, Jerry Johnson and beloved dog Libby. He is survived by his parents; his younger sister, Lyndsey (Michael VanDam); his grandparents, Diz and Dianne Dalzell, Rich and Sylvia Rice, and Daphne Johnson; his uncles, Todd (Phyllis), Daisy (Lauren) Dalzell, Corey (Kat) Scheck; his aunt, Jennifer (Drea) Hayeslip; cousins, Kendall, Keegan, and Dahlia Dalzell, Alli, Maggie, and Evelyn Scheck, Brenden Carr and Hunter Burns.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the Rosary to be Prayed at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 22 at the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay, MI.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 23 with the family greeting friends at 10:00 a.m., also at the Martinson Funeral Home. Pastor Andrew Clark, Bayview Church will officiate.

Jolene Marie Terry, 83, passed away on September 13, 2023 at 6:42 PM at The Cedars in McPherson, KS.

Jolene was born on May 16, 1940 in Clyde, KS to parents Hallie Stoll and Mary Ellen McDonough Garwood.

Jolene was a member of Native Daughters of Kansas and the VFW Aux. Jolene was an avid bowler for many years. She bowled in the Women’s State Bowling tournaments for many years and won the Women’s Double State Bowling tournament. She was inducted into the Salina Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 2000. Jolene enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lawrence W. Johnston, 81, of Apollo, PA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 6th, at Forbes Hospital, Monroeville. 

Larry was born in Omaha, NE on May 27, 1942, a son of the late Hazel F. (Hicks) Johnston and William H. Johnston. He was a 1960 graduate of Junction City High School. He attended Kansas State University for 3 years studying electrical engineering. 

Larry worked 23 years as a 2-way radio repairman for Topeka FM Communications. He then worked 20 years for the NCC in the state of Michigan as a public safety technician. He was a member of Delta Presbyterian Church in Lansing, MI. He was active in his church, where he was a volunteer as the clerk of Session and sang in the choir. He was a reserve police lieutenant for Junction City, KS, a member of the Blue #17 and Royal Arch masons. He was a national member of the Shriners, a member of the York Rite in Salina KS, and a past master of the mason lodge in Chapman, KS. 

Larry enjoyed teaching gun safety, duck hunting, singing, and collecting coins. Larry is survived by his wife of 52 1/2 years, Janet Rae (Miles) Johnston, his children Amy (Frank) Hill, of Eaton Rapids, MI; Kevin S. Johnston, of Apollo; and Tammy (Dave) Huston, of Freeport. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Kenneth Hill, John Hill, Alyssa (David McKay) Huston, Katheryn (Glenn Spath) Huston and Rebecca Huston; 3 great grandchildren, Paxton McKay, Nova Hill, Adalyn McKay and one on the way, and his sister, Frances E. Johnston, of Lansing, MI, and his adopted daughter Kay Johnston Yette and two adopted grandchildren Chris Johnston and Cheyanne Yette of Silver Lake Kansas.

Lawrence W. Johnston

John Clifford Loflin, age 95, of Ogallah, Kansas, passed away peacefully with his wife and family by his side at the family farm on Monday, September 11, 2023.&nbsp; He was born on June 15, 1928, in Ogallah to loving parents, Clifford John and Katherine Barbara (Breit) Loflin. 

On February 4, 1950, he married the love of his life, Irene Mae Zerfas, in Hays, Kansas, and they shared an incredible journey together spanning 73 beautiful years.

John proudly served his country as a United States Navy veteran. 

Following his military service, John established himself as a dedicated entrepreneur in 1965 with Loflin Earth Moving and soil conservation business. It was very important for John to be a part of the (KLICA) Kansas Land Improvement Contractors Association for 55 years in conjunction with his business.&nbsp; 

He was also a part-time farmer, always with a passion for nurturing the land. In his younger years, John embarked on a career in construction, traveling from one job to another, often accompanied by his beloved Irene. Their adventures forged enduring friendships with coworkers and their spouses, bonds that remain strong to this day. Work was not just a necessity for John; it was his passion, and he relished the challenges of maintaining and operating heavy equipment. He was a true craftsman and a "shade tree engineer."

After retiring, John and Irene seized the opportunity to explore the United States during the winter months, including remarkable journeys to Alaska in their "souped-up" Fortravel. These travels brought them immense joy and allowed them to cultivate lifelong friendships along the way. 

In the rare moments he allowed himself a hobby, John dedicated his time to restoring classic vehicles, including Clifford's Jeep Pickup, IH Truck, assorted Jeeps, and a Model T. In his daily routine, John could be found at the shop, tending to equipment, and caring for the animals around the farm and shop. His dedication to his craft and his love for the land were evident to all who knew him.

John is survived by his loving wife Irene, with whom he shared 73 years of cherished memories. He is also survived by his children: John Michael "Mike" Loflin (Brenda) of Hays, Richard Loflin of Pryor, Oklahoma, Susan Anderson (Bill) of Topeka, Kansas, and Sandy Loflin Reetz of WaKeeney, Kansas; and a sister,&nbsp;Marjorie Miller. His legacy continues through his adoring grandchildren Tammy Gros, Corey Anderson, Isaac Anderson, Dylan Loflin, Dion Reetz, Ceri Coffield, and Reine Meyer. Additionally, he leaves behind great-grandchildren Sage Murphy, Henry Anderson, Elise Anderson, Owen Anderson, Marin Coffield, Emilia Coffield, Braden Gros, John Anderson, Elizabeth Anderson, Rinzlee Loflin, and soon to join, Oaklee Reetz.

John was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Judy Ann, and a sister, Barbara Rathbun.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Christ Lutheran Church in Ellis. Burial to follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Ellis, where he will receive military honors.&nbsp; Funeral services will be live streamed on Facebook Live. John Clifford Loflin

(Paulyne) Kay Richter, 86, passed away on September 8, 2023, at Bethany Home in Lindsborg, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born on October 21, 1936, to Ernest and Ruth (Clark) Farmer of rural Jamestown, Kansas.&nbsp; She married Robert C. Richter on October 9, 1955, in Jamestown.&nbsp; In 1958 they moved to a farm outside Assaria, Kansas that would be the family home for the rest of their lives. Three children, Linda, Doug, and Karen completed the family. Bob preceded her in death in 2019.

Kay began her elementary education in a one-room school near her rural Cloud County home. When the country school closed, she went to Jamestown for the rest of her education and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1954.&nbsp; After graduation, she completed a 1-year course at Brown Mackie School of Business in Salina.

Kay was energetic, outgoing, fun-loving, and creative. She used her artistic creativity to bring beauty to the world through her paintings and craft creations. She was active in church and community groups and was a long-time volunteer at the Tri-Rivers Fair in Salina. Kay loved to keep up on community happenings and spent more than 20 years writing about them in her Assaria News column for the Lindsborg News-Record newspaper.&nbsp;

During their early married years, Kay left the workforce to support the needs of the farm and the family’s church, school, and 4-H activities. She returned to the workforce as an Avon lady when her children were in school and then became a teller at the Assaria State Bank, later First Bank Kansas, where she worked for many years until her retirement.&nbsp;

Kay loved to travel and after retirement, she and Bob were able to take her bucket-list trip to Washington DC. She enjoyed taking road trips with her daughters and bus trips with her daughter-in-law and traveled with the whole family to see her granddaughter perform in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.&nbsp;

She is survived by her children, Linda Beech (Doug) of Manhattan, Doug Richter (Debbie) of Assaria, and Karen Richter of Titusville, FL; grandchildren John Walter and Emily Terry (Tyler); and great-grandsons Brayden and Tucker Terry.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her husband Bob Richter and a brother, Buddy Lee Farmer.&nbsp;

A memorial service to honor Kay will be held on Monday, September 18 at 11:00 a.m. at the Assaria Lutheran Church, Assaria, Kansas, with a reception following in the Family Life Center.&nbsp; The family will receive visitors on Sunday, September 17 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. 8th Street, Salina, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Bethany Home or Assaria Lutheran Church in care of the funeral home.

Kenneth Bruce Parson, 76, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Friday, September 8th, 2023.

Bruce was born in Salina, Kansas on July 7, 1947, a son of Lily Marie (Coffelt) and Harley M. Parson.

He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1968 - 1974.

Bruce retired from Everett's Trucking Inc. in Abilene.

Survivors include his wife, Vicki (Anderson) Parson; daughter, Melissa Parson, of Wichita, Kansas; son, Richard Parson, of Salina, Kansas; grandson, Landon; sister, Katie Dickerman, of Salina, Kansas; aunts, uncles, and many nieces and nephews.

Bruce was a loving and devoted husband and father. He enjoyed fishing, building things, vegetable gardening, lawn care, cooking, among many other things.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, September 18th at Carlson - Geisendorf Funeral Home &amp; Crematory.

Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Salina, Kansas.

Kenneth "Bruce" Parson

Annette M. Gillham, 50, went home to be with her Heavenly Father, on August 29th, 2023 at Salina Regional Health Center surrounded by family and friends. She will be greatly missed.

Annette was born October 17th 1972 in Martin, TN to Estella M. Johnson. She graduated From Roosevelt High School (St. Louis MO) in 1991. Annette met the love of her life Rob Gillham in May 2003 and they were married September 22nd 2003. She became an instant mom to Rob's son Gayle and 3 more children were added over the next several years. She graduated with an Associates Degree in Business Management at Brown Mackie College in 2005. Annette loved to spend time with family and she also loved to travel and has seen different parts of this country.

In 2016 Annette was diagnosed with Kidney failure. In 2018, she was diagnosed with liver failure. In December of 2021 Annette received a new liver and kidney. After the transplant Life

seemed to resume until February of 2022 when she got an infection that affected the new kidney. Annette was then hospitalized for over 13 months before she was able to come back home and be with her Family. Annette fought a long hard 7 year battle of kidney disease.

Annette was preceded in death by Estella Johnson (Mother) and Harry Ura (Step-Father)

Annette is survived by Spouse Rob Gillham, Children Gayle Gillham of Salina, KS, Rachel Gillham of Salina, KS, Rhett Gillham of Salina, KS, Taylor Gillham of Salina, KS Emily Dickson (God-daughter) of Cabot, AR, and many nieces and nephews. She was a wife and mother and was a follower of Jesus.

Jerry Lee Hickel, 64, passed away on August 31, 2023 at 9:57 AM at 464 Maple Ave. in Salina, KS.

Jerry was born on June 17, 1959 in Salina, KS to parents Edward and Lois Elliott Hickel.

He liked watching westerns and Hallmark when he was not at work. He enjoyed woodworking and built many things for family and friends. He took great pride in&nbsp; his yard and kept it immaculate. He loved the Holiday's and spending time with all the grandkids. He was a quiet gentle man but stern and we knew he loved us all. We will miss him dearly as he was a great son, dad, granddad (papa to the grandkids), great-granddad, brother and friend.

Jerry was working at Menards in the Shipping and Receiving Department.
