Alice Marie Summerfield July 28, 1937 ~ March 26, 2024

Alice Marie Summerfield was born July 28, 1937, the youngest daughter of Johanna Moore Evans and Llewlyn Thomas Evans, in Reading Kansas. Alice met and married Robert C. Blythe in Dwight Kansas on December 25, 1954, and they had two children, Steven and Christopher. Alice and Bob were later divorced, and Alice remarried Eddie Summerfield in Jay Oklahoma on September 1, 1979.

Alice was preceded in death by parents Johanna and Llewlyn, sisters Barbara and Kathryn, brother John, husbands Robert Blythe and Eddie Summerfield, and son Christopher. Alice is survived by son Steve (Cindy) Blythe of Burlingame, Kansas, daughter-in-law Nancy Blythe of Estes Park, Colorado, and stepdaughter Gretchen Newman of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She is also survived by grandchildren Suzanna (Aaron) Cubit of Garnett Kansas, Chantelle Haas of Auburn Kansas, Ashley (Greg) Haverstock of Bishop California, Amber (Michael) Nattrass of Estes Park Colorado, Allison (Jason) Mahurin of Claremore Oklahoma, Chelsey (Rex) Osborn of Broken Arrow Oklahoma, and Cory Newman of Oklahoma City Oklahoma. She leaves behind many great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many dear friends.

Alice did not wish to have any memorial services and interment will be at a later date.

Jimmie "Jim" D. Mayhew September 22, 1943 ~ April 1, 2024

Jimmie D. Mayhew, 80, Abilene, KS, passed away on April 1, 2024. He was born in Marysville KS, the son of Dale and Bonnie (Bothwell) Mayhew.

He was preceded in death by his parents and former wife, Bobbie Jo Torrence.

He is survived by wife, Pattie, of the home; sister, Sheri (Roger) Dowding, Syracuse, NE; brother, Tanner (Leah), St. Joseph, MO; son, David (Melinda), grandchildren, Joseph and Nathon Mayhew, Okarche, OK; Daughter, Janna (Mike) Medlin, grandchildren Ethan, Dillon Smith and Kylee (Kendon) Brown, all of Oklahoma; Stepson Brian (Desiree), Lorissa and Davin Bailey, Leavenworth, KS; stepdaughter, Heather (RJ) Ferrari, Avalyn and Mackenzie Ferrari and stepson, David P. Leach, Chicago, IL.

He attended Fairbury College, Fairbury, Nebraska. Following his attendance there he joined the National Guard and was subsequently activated in 1969, serving in Vietnam. Other duty assignments included Kansas, Alaska, Colorado, and Maryland. He retired from his military career as a Major and subsequently served as a civilian with the Directorate of Logistics, as the Ft. Riley Property Book Officer.

During his retirement years, he loved bird-watching; photography, serving the Boy Scouts in Abilene; Konza prairie as a docent; Maxwell Wildlife Refuge, Canton, KS; President of the Kansas Ornithological Society; President of the Smoky Hill Trail Association and on the Board of Trustees for the Dickinson County Historical Society.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Dusty Bookshelf, 700 N. Manhattan Ave., Manhattan, KS 66502.

A celebration of life will take place at a later date.

Larry William "Bill" Leander, 81, passed away on March 30, 2024 at his home in Gypsum, KS.

Larry was born on September 10, 1942 in Salina, KS to parents Richard and Berniece Johnson Leander.

Larry was retired as a Truck Driver from Leander Trucking in Gypsum.

He enjoyed BBQing, driving around town checking up on everyone, he never new a stranger, enjoyed the neighborhood kids, he loved spending time with the grandkids and handing out his Leander Trucking pens. He was a member of the Salina VFW Post #1432.

Bill was preceded in death by Berniece Leander (Mother), Richard Leander (Father), Jaron Lewis (Sister), Kathryn Queen (Sister), Marla Byquist (Sister).

Larry is survived by his wife Jeanette Leander; Children Chelsy Leander of Gypsum, KS; Others: Katie Rohr (Granddaughter), Ashlynn Rohr (Granddaughter), Kenny Leander (Brother) and spouse Linda, Keith Leander (Brother).

A Memorial service will be on Monday, April 8, 2024 at 10:30 AM in the Assaria Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Assaria Lutheran Church Cemetery in Assaria, KS. Larry "Bill" W. Leander

Norma Jean (Jungel) Hahn October 7, 1932 ~ March 31, 2024

Norma Jean Hahn, known to everyone as “Jean” was born to Faye and Harry Jungel on the family farm near New Cambria, KS on October 7, 1932. She grew up milking cows and doing field work with her two sisters, Helen and Betty, and her younger brothers, Marvin and Keith. Jean and her sisters enjoyed hunting and fishing with their dad. The three girls excelled playing in fast pitch softball leagues in the summers.

After graduating from Solomon High, Jean moved to Abilene, KS where she worked as a telephone operator for 7 years. Jean met Leon Hahn in 1953 on a blind date set up by Leon’s sister, Ivalene. They were married Nov. 20, 1954. Jean and Leon lived in Gypsum until 1957 and then moved to the farm in rural Dickinson County, where they raised their family and worked side by side for the next 67 years. Jean helped raise chickens, pigs and cattle with Leon, as well as farming, increasing acreage over their decades of working together. Her artistic talents included painting, embroidery, and quilting. She also sang in the Gypsum United Methodist Church Choir for many years. Jean was a trusted school bus driver for the Southeast of Salina School District for 9 years, retiring once Leon was ready to travel the world. Their travels took them to all 50 states, as well as Germany, Austria, Belgium, Holland and Mexico.

Jean and Leon joined the Jolly Mixer’s Dance Club in Salina and were faithful weekly dancers for 34 years, until Jean’s health precluded further dancing four years ago. The multitude of friendships and memories that evolved from the Jolly Mixer’s had a lasting impact on Jeans’ retirement years.

Jean is survived by Leon, her husband of 69 years; daughter, Carol Shearer (John), daughter, Karla Demby (Brian); and son, Randy (Lori); eight grandchildren, Clayton, (Maggie), Mitchell Shearer, Ryan Hahn (Hannah), Jason Hahn (Rachel), Stephen Hahn, Max Demby (Courtney), Rachel Demby and Nicole Demby;and 5 great grandchildren, Addyson and Coralie Shearer, Conley and Easton Hahn, and Blaine Hahn. She has one brother, Keith Jungel.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 4, 2024, at the Gypsum Community Church, Gypsum, KS, with the Rev. David Walters officiating. Burial will be in the Gypsum City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 pm Wednesday April 3, 2024 at the Ryan Mortuary, Salina.

L. Joan Sample Smith, 86, Minneapolis, died&nbsp;Friday, March&nbsp;29, 2024. Ms. Smith was born July 2, 1937, in Ottawa County to Clyde and&nbsp;Avis Sample.&nbsp;

A&nbsp;life-long&nbsp;nurse, Joan&nbsp;was also an avid dancer who loved to travel.&nbsp;After graduating from Minneapolis High School in 1955, Joan attended Fort Hays State University&nbsp;and&nbsp;graduated with an associate degree in nursing. In the intervening years, Joan lived and practiced in Chicago, Colorado, and Kansas. She returned home&nbsp;to Minneapolis in&nbsp;2002&nbsp;to&nbsp;care for, travel with, and attend local dances with her father.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents,&nbsp;Avis in 1996 and Clyde in 2007.

Survivors are her two&nbsp;daughters,&nbsp;Rhonda&nbsp;Olson&nbsp;of Orlando, Florida;&nbsp;and&nbsp;Shanna&nbsp;Due and husband Jonathan of&nbsp;Williamsburg, Virginia; and three grandchildren, Orin Olson,&nbsp;John Clyde Due and Samantha Lee Due.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 5 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis. Private burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis. B. Wayne Loy April 1, 1942 ~&nbsp;April 2, 2024

B. Wayne Loy, 82, of McPherson, KS, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Pleasant View Home, Inman.

Wayne was born on April 1, 1942, in Garnett, KS, the son of Brock E. and Roberta E. (Lewis) Loy.&nbsp; He graduated from William Chrisman High School (Independence, MO) in 1960 and received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from Central Missouri State College in 1965.&nbsp; On July 3, 1965, Wayne was united in marriage to Lois Aileen Wolpers in Blackburn, MO.&nbsp; This union was blessed with three sons, David, Stephen, and Andrew.&nbsp; Wayne and Lois were married for 58 years prior to Lois’ passing on January 18, 2024.

Wayne served for 5 ½ years in the United States Air Force Reserve, reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant.&nbsp; He was an accountant for K-W Dart Truck Company, Kansas Jack, Vanguard Plastics, and Hehr Glass.&nbsp;

As a Boy Scout, he was awarded the Eagle Scout and inducted into the Order of the Arrow.&nbsp; He was a member of &nbsp;American Legion Post #24.&nbsp; He enjoyed holiday family get-togethers, camping, guns, knife collecting, fishing, hunting, archery, bluegrass music festivals, and his beloved dogs.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Survivors include his three sons, David (Mary) Loy of Irvine, CA, Stephen (Jen) Loy of Topeka, KS, and Andrew (Rebecca) Loy of McPherson, KS; and ten grandchildren, Nathan, Catherine, Jonathan, Benjamin, Tyler, Emily, Ayden, Asher, Emmalyn, and Maya.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister, Carol Ann Fitzpatrick.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, April 8, 2024, at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Dale Dumperth officiating.&nbsp; The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM until service time on Monday at the church.&nbsp; Burial with Military Honors will follow the service at McPherson Cemetery.

Steve was born in Salina, Kansas on January 3, 1952, a son of Opal Mae (Edmonds) and Richard M. Kinion.

Survivors include his sister, Terri Beauregard (Michael), of Shawnee, Kansas and brother, Richard Kinion, Jr. (Carol), of Douglass, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Shelly Kinion.

Viola was born on July 18, 1943 in Minneapolis, KS to parents Harold Pearl and Rose Mae Hansen Toothman.

Viola worked at various places in town but enjoyed her time at the Salina Country Club the most.

She enjoyed gardening, making wine, loved to cook, canning and had many crafts.

She was preceded in death by Rose Toothman (Mother), Harold Toothman (Father), Joe Whittington (Son), Carl Toothman (Brother), Dean Toothman (Brother).

Donald Craig Stolzenburg, age 71, entered into rest on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at his residence in Ames, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp; He was born on June 18, 1952, in Concordia, Kansas, to Loy Eldon and Ellen Faye (DeWitt) Stolzenburg.

Don attended school in Agenda while growing up, and he received his GED from the Nazareth Mother House and was very proud of this accomplishment.

Don’s first marriage was to Mary Joan Copple.&nbsp;&nbsp;He later married Lana Jo Breault, January 28, 1989, in Concordia, Kansas.&nbsp;

He was a member of the Victory Faith Church in Concordia.&nbsp;&nbsp;Don had recently celebrated his 37 years of sobriety which started in 1987.&nbsp;&nbsp;He took one day at a time and was very proud of his achievement.

Together with Lana they ministered over 350 foster children giving them love and care for over 30 years.

Don had a love for music all his life and played in his bands for many years throughout his life.&nbsp;&nbsp;He learned how to play music from his beloved father Eldon who played the steel guitar and watching and learning to play music by ear without sheet music.&nbsp;&nbsp;Don played in several of his bands and was lead vocal and lead guitar player for the Salt Creek Playboys (his first band), Driftwood, Pick and Stick, and Cripple Creek Bands.&nbsp;&nbsp;Don was a true musician and entertainer, having played at many venues throughout his career.

Don worked at Concordia Technologies, previously Alstom and Abrams.&nbsp;&nbsp;Don had a love for racing and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.&nbsp;&nbsp;His hobbies included working on transmissions and watching his work perform on various tracks over the years.&nbsp;&nbsp;He loved giving rides to the children in his handmade train and tractor he rebuilt.&nbsp;&nbsp;Don also loved tractor pulls, but most of all he loved spending time with his beloved family and friends.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was The Man, The Myth, and The Legend.&nbsp;&nbsp;Don will be forever missed.

Karen Deanne (Lupher) Adams August 12, 1939 ~ March 30, 2024

Karen Deanne (Lupher) Adams, age 84, passed away on March 30, 2024, at her home in Wichita, KS, with her loving son Ronald and granddaughters Jennifer and Ashleigh by her side.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 5 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ward Funeral Home in Washington.&nbsp;A funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 6 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Greenleaf, KS. Burial will be in Greenleaf City Cemetery.

Karen was born on August 12, 1939 to Clovis (Kelly) and Irma Lupher. She attended Fairview, a small country school, and later graduated from Greenleaf High School in 1957.

She was baptized on August 27, 1939 at St Peters Lutheran Church, Barnes KS and confirmed March 29, 1953 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Greenleaf KS.

Karen was one of the most popular and prettiest girls in high school. She was nominated homecoming royalty throughout her high school years and was also selected to be in theWashington County Beauty Contest. Out of the 13 towns in Washington County, Karen was the one selected from Greenleaf.

At the age of 18 Karen left the family home and attended Weaver Airline School in Kansas City. After graduating she was sent to Washington DC to work for Eastern Airlines. This is where she met her husband, Richard. Karen left the airlines and moved to Richmond VA where she worked as a teletype operator for several years. She later became a bus driver, which would beher love, for over 53 years.

Karen and Richard were married on May 4, 1958 after four short months of dating. They have three boys; Richard (Rick), Rodney and Ronald. Karen was blessed with two beautiful granddaughters, Jennifer Brooke and Ashleigh Elyse. Jennifer and Ashleigh meant the world to her. She always enjoyed their visits and couldn’t wait until she could see them again.

In the late 1990s Karen and Richard moved to Salina KS to be closer to her family. Richard had never been to Kansas and promised Karen that she would return once he retired. Karen continued driving a bus after their move for Heartland Early Education in Salina until she was 82. The kids meant as much to her as Ms. Karen did to the children. She also volunteered at the Stiefel Theatre in Salina where she could attend concerts and fulfill her love of music. She attended Christ the King Lutheran Church in Salina. It was not unusual to see Karen and Richard attend George Jones concerts together. In 2023 she moved to Wichita KS to live closer to her son Ronald.

Karen had many talents. She was named “mother of the year” when her boys were little. She was a wonderful seamstress, made beautiful ceramics and endless pieces of immaculate cross stitch; some taking her years to complete. Karen was a stunning lady, beautiful both inside and out. Folks would comment on her beauty wherever she went. Her son Ronald even mentioned how strangers would come up to her just to mention her beauty. Karen had a short modeling career at the young age of 70, modeling for Christopher &amp; Banks. She was so humble and kind to everyone she met and had a heart of gold.

Karen’s family meant the world to her. Karen was the oldest of 10 siblings and would take care of the younger kids for her momma Irma. Karen claimed her brother Fred as being her baby; they continued this close bond to the very end. Karen and her mom had a very special relationship, only being 16 years apart, they were very good friends. She loved all of her siblings dearly, which was the reason for her and Richard moving back to Kansas. She enjoyed every minute she could spend with them where they would laugh until they hurt. Karen shared many stories about when they were younger; she would make her younger sisters go to the outhouse with her in the middle of the night because she didn’t want to go alone. She’d make them count to 100, if she wasn’t ready to go back in they’d have to count to 100 again. Another was when she would come in at night, she would put her cold feet on Myrna and Linda’s back to warm them up. They couldn’t move until her feet were warm.

In her last days, laying in her hospital bed at home, she asked Myrna to crawl into the bed with her. This was nothing unusual for the Lupher kids. Six of the kids were in two tiny bedrooms upstairs in their farmhouse. Karen and Linda had to share one full bed while Vicki and Myrnahad a single size bed in the same room. Gale and Fred shared the other bedroom with only a curtain separating them. Though times were rough for them growing up, they always had each other and their friendships grew throughout the years.

Karen was preceded in death by her husband Richard, parents Kelly and Irma Lupher, brother-in-law’s Kenny Tiemeyer and Stanley Mueller, niece Kelli Lynn Cairns, nephew Todd Cairns.

She is survived by her three children Rick Adams, Lindsborg KS, Rod Adams, Salina KS and Ronald Adams, Wichita, KS. Granddaughters Jennifer (Alan) Engle, Jacksonville FL and Ashleigh Adams, Lincoln NE. Siblings Gale (Doris) Lupher, Greenleaf KS, Myrna (Stanley) Cairns, Greenleaf KS, Linda (Martin) Merrill, Waterville KS, Vicki (Dan) Rempe, Lincoln NE, Fred (Linda) Lupher, Lincoln NE, Debbie Tiemeyer, Omaha NE, Rhonda Mueller, Frankfort KS, Tony Lupher, Vacaville CA and Shelli (Jim) Osborne Blue Rapids KS, 15 nieces and nephews,33 great nieces and nephews and 14 greats.

Thank you to our heavenly Father for the years you gave Karen to us and for taking her home to be with you. We are grateful for allowing Karen to go peacefully and for allowing her these last several months to spend every day with her son Ronald. Their mother/son bond was very special to both of them.&nbsp;

Karen had a short modeling career at the young age of 70, modeling for Christopher &amp; Banks. She was so humble and kind to everyone she met and had a heart of gold.Karen’s family meant the world to her. Karen was the oldest of 10 siblings and would take care of the younger kids for her momma Irma. Karen claimed her brother Fred as being her baby; they continued this close bond to the very end. Karen and her mom had a very special relationship, only being 16 years apart, they were very good friends. She loved all of her siblings dearly, which was the reason for her and Richard moving back to Kansas. She enjoyed every minute she could spend with them where they would laugh until they hurt. Karen shared many stories about when they were younger; she would make her younger sisters go to the outhouse with her in the middle of the night because she didn’t want to go alone. She’d make them count to 100, if she wasn’t ready to go back in they’d have to count to 100 again. Another was when she would come in at night, she would put her cold feet on Myrna and Linda’s back to warm them up. They couldn’t move until her feet were warm.In her last days, laying in her hospital bed at home, she asked Myrna to crawl into the bed with her. This was nothing unusual for the Lupher kids. Six of the kids were in two tiny bedrooms upstairs in their farmhouse. Karen and Linda had to share one full bed while Vicki and Myrnahad a single size bed in the same room. Gale and Fred shared the other bedroom with only a curtain separating them. Though times were rough for them growing up, they always had each other and their friendships grew throughout the years.Karen was preceded in death by her husband Richard, parents Kelly and Irma Lupher, brother-in-law’s Kenny Tiemeyer and Stanley Mueller, niece Kelli Lynn Cairns, nephew Todd Cairns.She is survived by her three children Rick Adams, Lindsborg KS, Rod Adams, Salina KS and Ronald Adams, Wichita, KS. Edna A. Weller, 100, died Sunday, March 31, 2024.&nbsp; She was born February 14, 1924 in rural Saline County to G.M. and Zada J. (Smith) Craig. &nbsp;

Edna was united in marriage to Gordon Weller in 1949.&nbsp; Edna was a teacher, homemaker, and farmer.&nbsp; She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandma, aunt, cousin, and friend.&nbsp; She touched our lives in so many ways and will be missed by many.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Helen (Craig) Dingler; and husband, Gordon. &nbsp;

She is survived by two daughters, LeAnn Weller and Linda (Tom) Huggans; and grandchildren, Josh Huggans, Jeremy Huggans, Jordan and Courtney (Sager) Huggans.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2024 at Ryan Mortuary.&nbsp; Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery, Salina. &nbsp;

Venita Faye (Dunn) Young, 96, of Overbrook, KS and formerly of Burlingame, KS passed away Sunday, March 31, 2024 at the Brookside Retirement Community in Overbrook, KS.&nbsp; She was born April 17, 1927 in Fosteria, KS the daughter of Henry Dunn and Hazel (Peavler) Dunn.&nbsp; She grew up and attended schools in Burlingame, KS, graduating with the Class of 1945 at Burlingame High School.&nbsp;

She was united in marriage to Bobby G. Young on February 14, 1948 at the Federated Church in Burlingame, KS.&nbsp; They shared over fifty years of marriage before her husband’s passing on October 22, 1998.&nbsp;

Venita was a receptionist for Santa Fe in Topeka, KS, Burlingame, KS USD 454, Cotton-O’Neil Lab in Topeka, KS and for Dr. Stan Hornbaker and Dr. Kevin Sundbye in Carbondale, KS. She resided in Burlingame, KS until moving to the Brookside Retirement Community in Overbrook, KS in July of 2020.&nbsp;

She was a member of TNT Club and was very artistic and loved growing flowers in her garden.&nbsp; She also was a fabulous cook.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Hazel Dunn; and a sister, Ruth Watkinson Tosone.&nbsp;

Surviving family includes a son, Tom Young and his wife, Donna of Burlingame, KS;&nbsp; a daughter, Susie Whalen and her husband, Kurt of Lawrence, KS; two grandsons, Matt Young and wife, Becky of Burlingame, KS and Jared Whalen and wife, Sarah of Olathe, KS;&nbsp; two granddaughters, Lindsey Ewing of Ft. Meyers, FL and Aindrea Scott and husband, Dr. Derek Scott of Woodury, MN; four great-grandchildren, Hannah &amp; Evan; and Ainsley &amp; Gwen; and many nieces.

Gloria Elaine (Johnson) Bachman February 28, 1943 ~ March 29, 2024

Born Feb. 28, 1943 in Burlingame, KS to Winlow and Margaret Johnson, Gloria is survived by three sons, David, Chris, and Matt; three granddaughters, Catherine, Abigail, and Maitlyn; and two grandsons, Cooper and Camden. Gloria is also survived by her sister, Wendy Godderz, and brother, Neil Johnson.

Gloria was a trailblazer as a woman studying physics in the 1960s. She graduated in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Washburn University where she met her only husband, David R. Bachman.&nbsp; They were married at the Federated Church in Burlingame, KS.

She had a very successful career, ultimately becoming a program manager supporting the Navy in the design of defense systems and submarine communications.&nbsp; As an entrepreneur she created her own contracting company in support of the Navy and Army before retiring.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Gloria was a dedicated mother and enjoyed cheering and supporting her boys. She was often a “team mom” and would rarely miss a game despite her career responsibilities. Gloria could often be heard ringing a bell in the stands in support of her kids’ teams. &nbsp;

At time of her passing, Gloria achieved 44 years of sobriety. She was active in AA for decades, during which she sponsored many people through challenging times. Gloria’s kitchen table was frequently a hub for support and she strived to positively affect the world around her at every chance.&nbsp;

Alzheimer’s would eventually catch up with her, and she spent the last six years of her life in Topeka, KS being supported by family and medical professionals.&nbsp;

A great person, a wonderful mom, a true friend, she will be missed by anyone who knew her.&nbsp; Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, 503 S Topeka Ave, Burlingame, Kansas followed by graveside services at Burlingame Cemetery at 11:00 a.m.&nbsp;

Linda C. Reedy, 73 of Abilene passed away March 30, 2024. She was born November 24, 1940 in Del Norte, Colorado to Ralph and Jerrine Arey. She was adopted at the age of two to Frank and Florence (DeGrofft) Bohnson. She grew up in the Clinton, Iowa area and graduated from Clinton High School. On September 8, 1969 she was united in marriage to George Dean Reedy in Illinois. He preceded her in death February 1, 2015. She worked for Sprint for 25 years as a dispatcher, accounting department and as a programmer. Linda and George moved to Abilene in 1974 after living in the Kansas City area for 10 years. Linda was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Enterprise. She had a love for all kinds of animals and often donated to various animal organizations. Linda is survived by her daughter, Michelle Kolling and husband Steve of Abilene. Grandson, Michael Kolling. One sister, Jan Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and one sister. Funeral services for Linda will be 10:30 A.M., Friday, April 5, 2024 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Enterprise. Linda will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery, with graveside services taking place at 1:00 P.M. on Friday. Robin L. Bowling, 61, of Salina, Kansas, passed away on March 27, 2024. She was born on June 8, 1962, in Fairfax County Virginia to Lawrance Williams and Mary (Lentz) Willliams.

Robin was loved by everyone that came into her life. She was an avid enjoyer of wrestling and football; her favorite team was the Green Bay Packers. When Robin wasn’t watching the Green Bay Packers play, she spent her time with family and friends. Robin also loved to go camping.

She was proceeded in death by her parents Lawrance and Mary Williams, and brother Michael Williams

She is survived by her sister Tammy Prough (Robert); two brothers Chris Williams, and Pat Williams; and two children Jamie Bowling and Jason Bowling.

She will be missed by her family and friends.

A celebration of life get together will be announced at a later date.

Donald married Claudine Miller in 1977 and drove a tow truck in Long Beach, California before moving to Salina.&nbsp; In Salina Donald worked for Doug Bradley Trucking as a driver and later a driving instructor before retiring in 2020. &nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his wife, Claudine; parents, Norman and Cathy; brothers, David and Darell Lee; brother-in-law, Dennis Miller; and a nephew. &nbsp;

Donald is survived by a daughter, Heidi Lee; grandsons, Jesse Wray, Guage and Cash Peterson, great-grandchildren, Ryder, Rylie, Phoebe, Mila, Axel; sisters-in-law, Nancy Lee of Arizona, Colette (Jerry) Bogart of Brookville; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family. &nbsp;

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2024 at the Tumblweed Event Venue, 5680 W. Old Hwy 40, Salina, KS 67401.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Lynn Bash August 14, 1946 ~&nbsp;March 18, 2024

Lynn Bash, formerly Veralynn Shaw passed away peacefully in her home Monday, March 18, 2024 in Kodiak, Alaska.

Lynn was born August 14, 1946 to Lester and Beatrice Hart in Versailles, Mo. She was later adopted by Fred and Carol Shaw of Falun, KS. Lynn attended Smoky Valley High School in Lindsborg, KS as well as Marymount College in Salina, KS. 

She worked briefly for the Pinkerton detective agency in Miami, Fl and as a paralegal in Salina, KS before embarking on her journey with the US Postal Service. Over the course of a 35 year career, Lynn went from secretary to counter Manager eventually retiring as Postmaster of Kodiak Island, AK. 

Lynn was preceded in death by her husband Dennis Bash, her biological parents Lester and Beatrice Hart, adoptive parents Fred and Carol Shaw, nephew Jim Clausen of TX, niece Colleen Clausen of KS. 

She is survived by her son, Kevin Van Wie of Salina, Kristin Crist (Ryan) of Abilene, grandchildren Michael Choy and Kailin Choy of AK, Katharin Choy of TX and her sister Grace Clausen of Salina as well as many nieces.&nbsp; Donations can be sent to Kodiak Animal Shelter, Kodiak, AK or Hospice of Kodiak, AK.

She was later adopted by Fred and Carol Shaw of Falun, KS. Lynn attended Smoky Valley High School in Lindsborg, KS as well as Marymount College in Salina, KS. She worked briefly for the Pinkerton detective agency in Miami, Fl and as a paralegal in Salina, KS before embarking on her journey with the US Postal Service. Over the course of a 35 year career, Lynn went from secretary to counter Manager eventually retiring as Postmaster of Kodiak Island, AK. Lynn was preceded in death by her husband Dennis Bash, her biological parents Lester and Beatrice Hart, adoptive parents Fred and Carol Shaw, nephew Jim Clausen of TX, niece Colleen Clausen of KS. Sister Margaret Nacke died March 30, 2024, at Nazareth Motherhouse in

Concordia, KS. She was 90 years old and a Sister of St. Joseph for 70 years. She was

born in Hebron, Nebraska, on November 15, 1933, to Albert and Frederica Haug Nacke, the sixth of seven children, and was baptized Margaret Alberta. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia, KS on September 8, 1953. On March 18, 1954, Margaret received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister Jeanne d’Arc; changing back to her baptismal name in 1979. She pronounced first vows on March 19, 1955 and final vows on March 19, 1958.

In 1957 Sister Margaret received her B.A. in Art from Marymount College, Salina, KS. This was followed up with a M.F.A. in Sculpture&nbsp;&nbsp;from Catholic University in Washington, DC in 1961 and a M.Ed. and a Ed.D. in 1977 and 1979 respectively in Adult Ed. from the University of Toronto. She spent 16 years teaching in the Art Department at Marymount College in Salina, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;After teaching she worked in various positions in adult education.&nbsp;&nbsp;In 1993 – 2012 she engaged in an Eastern European Ministry to help in curriculum development of the first Catholic School of Nursing.&nbsp;&nbsp;Sister Margaret retired to the Motherhouse in October of 2021.&nbsp;

Sister Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and three sisters. She is survived by one brother, Fr. Xavier Nacke, and one sister, Elizabeth Mahoney. A Bible Vigil Service will be held April 4 at 7:00 p.m. in the Nazareth Motherhouse Auditorium with Sister Faye Huelsmann as the eulogist. The Mass of Christian Burial will be April 5 at 10:30 a.m. in the Motherhouse Auditorium, Father Xavier Nacke presiding. The burial will be in the Nazareth Motherhouse Cemetery. Illene Hess, age 87, entered into rest on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at the Plaza West Healthcare and Rehab Center in Topeka, Kansas. &nbsp; She was born on December 6, 1936, in Rice, Kansas to Glen Townsdin and Maxine Reed. &nbsp;&nbsp;

She married Stan Hess from Courtland, Kansas. He preceded her in death November 6, 2004.&nbsp;

Illene worked for various nursing homes in the local communities of Concordia, Jamestown and later in Topeka, Kansas.

She enjoyed traveling, being on the farm and most of all he loved spending time with her beloved family and friends.

Illene is survived by her two sons, James “Jim” Dooley (Lorna), Concordia, KS; Frank Horning, Mulberry, KS; a daughter, Janet Huhs, Topeka, KS; a brother, Robert Reed (Juanice), Chandler, OK; two sisters, Shirley Riek, Clay Center, KS; Patsy Jackson, Blue Rapids, KS; many grandchildren and great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded by her husband, Stan Hess, her parents, Glen and Marguerite Townsdin, and Maxine and Bus Reed, two sons, Ted Lavoie, and Billy Urich, her four sisters, Carol Bisnette, Jeanette Townsdin, Sandra “Sandy” Miller, and Nancy Keating, and a brother, James Townsdin.

Illene’s wishes were to be cremated and a graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024, at the Fairview Cemetery, rural Jamestown, Kansas.

Marla (Lefert) Forsyth January 1, 1962 ~ March 29, 2024

Marla (Lefert) Forsyth, 62, of rural Abilene departed from her earthly home on Friday, March 29, 2024, after fighting a courageous nearly five-year battle with stage four colon cancer with her family and friends faithfully by her side. Marla was born January 1, 1962, the daughter of Leo and Rosemary (Otto) Lefert. Marla was raised on the family farm in the rural community between Wakefield and Chapman. She was baptized at the Wakefield United Methodist Church. She attended grade school at Upland and graduated from Chapman High School with the class of 1980. Marla graduated from Cloud County Community College and while she was there met the love of her life Roger Forsyth. Marla went on to Kansas State University and graduated with a degree in Interior Design. Marla and Roger were married June 2, 1984, at the Wakefield United Methodist Church. Marla and Roger made their home on the Dickinson/Clay County line. Their son Daniel was born in 1987 and daughter Elizabeth was born in 1991.Marla grew up as a 12-year-member of the Fragrant Hilltopper 4-H Club in Dickinson County She was a third-generation organizational leader for Fragrant Hill, behind her mother Rosemary and paternal grandfather Herman. Marla was very active in Dickinson County 4-H her entire life from being a 4-H member herself including earning her Key Award, being a club leader, Dickinson County 4-H Council Advisor, serving on the extension council and helping on many occasions on the club and county level. Marla was also an active member of the Industry Community Church where she had been a member since Roger and she were married and moved to the Industry community in 1984.

Marla’s first career passion was interior design. She was a furniture sales consultant at Kansas Home Furnishings in Abilene for 8 years before moving to Orr’s Furniture City in Clay Center for 15 years. Marla’s second career was with Green Team Cars then later Friesen Dodge Chrysler Jeep and Ram in Clay Center for 16 years. Marla retired in April 2023. She continued to stay connected with many of her customers who became friends due to Marla's ability to touch people's lives in often tangible ways, and a genuine caring attitude that went above and beyond her job duties.Her grandsons Easton and Paulson were Marla's greatest joy. She enjoyed spending retirement with the boys and spending time at the home that she had lovingly cared for while raising her family and being hospitable to her friends and nearby extended family. She enjoyed hosting family and friends and continuing traditions.

Marla leaves behind her husband Roger, they would have celebrated 40 years of marriage this June; son Danny and his children Easton and Paulson; daughter Elizabeth Perks and husband Thomas; mother Rosemary Lefert; sister Nancy Kohman (Steve) and their children Megan Bieberle (Malik), Sarah Kohman (Alex), Kyle Kohman; brother-in-law JW Forsyth (Ronda); aunts Linda Lefert and Evelyn Otto; cousins Scott Otto (Darla) and children; Sandy Smith (Roger); Jennifer Schley (Kent) and children; Justin Lefert (Becky) and children; Loran Lefert (Samantha) and children and many dear friends. Marla was preceded in death by her grandson Kaysen Forsyth; father Leo Lefert; in-laws John and Imogene Forsyth; and uncles Gary Lefert and Dean Otto.The family will receive friends and family on Tuesday, April 2nd from 5-7 PM at the Wakefield Methodist Church in Wakefield, KS. Services will be held Wednesday, April 3rd at 10 AM at the Wakefield Methodist Church, Wakefield, KS. Marla’s final resting place will be at Athelstane Cemetery.

 </figure>Richard "Dick" Tews April 11, 1942 ~ March 1, 2024Richard "Dick" Tews, 81, of New Cambria KS, passed away on March 01, 2024. Richard was preceded in death by his father and Mother, Ernest Tews and Eva Leona (Paul) Tews, second wife Wanda Tews, daughter Debbie Tews and stepson Stacey Gravatt.Richard was born on April 11, 1942, in Hutchinson MN. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Hazel Albrecht-Tews of the home, brothers; Jerry Tews of Hutchinson, and Tom (Bev) Tews of Nicollet, and sister, Carol Nemitz of Hutchinson. Children: Mike (Tina) Tews of Lewiston, Idaho, Stepchildren Gail Albrecht of Salina KS, and Mark Albrecht of Raytown MO., two grandchildren, two Step Grandchildren, one great grandchild and one step great grandchild.Richard graduated from Hutchinson MN High school in 1960 and then from Minneapolis Business College with an associate in business.After college, he was offered a fulltime job with Gamble Robinson in which he moved nine times and was promoted to Assistant Branch Manager and then to Branch President. Richard moved to Salina Kansas in 1990 and stayed until the company moved out of Kansas. Richard proceeded to commute to Omaha Nebraska until he retired in February 2002, and he worked with the merchandising and finance department until his retirement. After his retirement from Gamble Robinson, Richard began working with City Wide Storage as a branch manager until he officially retired from working in 2020 with 18 years of service.Richard’s hobbies included fishing, curling, traveling and was a dedicated member of the Salina AMBUCS.Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Aprill 13, 2024 at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. 8th Salina KS. Inurnment service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2024, at the Christ Episcopal Church in Ft.
