Nancy J. Kellner, 92, of Middleton, FL, formerly of Salina, passed away Friday, October 17, 2025 in Florida.&nbsp; She was born April 29, 1933 in Salina, to Robert and Ruby (Reynolds) Moore.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Nancy J. Kellner

Charles Eugene Leister, 93, passed away October 26, 2025. He was born April 8, 1932, in Salina, Kansas to Glenn H. and Clara Haupt Leister. He was raised on the farm at Kipp, KS, and graduated from Kipp High School in 1950. Charles married Marlene Cassel in August, 1952.

He then served in the U.S. Army in Korea, where he was wounded in combat. He returned home to farm at Kipp for 60 years and he established a business doing carpentry. He also worked for Elmore (Garden Home Inc.) for 22 years.

Charles was on the Kipp School Board, the rural water district #2 board, a member of the Moose Lodge, and Elks Lodge. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1432, where he served as a Commander.

Charles was preceded in death by his mother, Clara, his parents Glenn and Verna Leister; wife of 72 years, Marlene; grandson Shawn Teagarden; son-inlaw Joe Teagarden; brother Gayle Leister, and sisters Clarice Davis and Mary Johnson.

He is survived by his daughters, Vicki Teagarden of LaCygne, KS, Michelle Keeler and husband Pat of Salina, KS, and Lisa Leister-Hughes of Kimball, Ml; grandchildren Scott (Saylee) Teagarden, Ryan Keeler, Ashley (Dustin) Delehanty, Clara (Eric) Alexander, and Charles Hughes. He also had eleven great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

In honor of his wishes, there will be a private family service.&nbsp;

Charles Eugene Leister

Virginia Eileen Reed, daughter of Lloyd H. Reed and Bernice Russell Reed was born February 13, 1920, at a farm home near Webber, KS. She passed away October 24, 2025 at Sunset Home, Concordia, KS at the age of 105. She attended elementary school at the one room Rosehill School. She graduated from Webber High School with the class of 1938. She graduated from the Hutchinson School of Business in 1939.

On September 7 1941 she was united in marriage to Wayne R. Wilson. Soon after marrying, Wayne enlisted in the U.S. Navy. They were assigned to Naval Air Station Pensacola, Fl. After WWII they moved to Newton, KS for a short time. They then moved to Mankato, KS where they raised their three children. Eileen worked for the Darrell Miller law firm in Mankato. She was elected as Jewell County Clerk and held several county positions including Sheriff.

Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wayne, their daughter Linda Matheny, granddaughter Amanda Wilson, and brothers Russell and Darrell Reed. Eileen is survived by daughter Sandra and husband Steve Britt of Carrabelle, FL, son Edwin Wilson of Concordia, KS, Granddaughter Allison Gonzalez, Grandson Ethan Wilson of Concordia, Great granddaughter Brooklynn Velez and Grandson Zachery Campbell. She is also survived by Sister Joan D. Ross of Omaha, NE and brother-in-law the Rev. Don Wilson. She will be missed by a plethora of nieces, nephews, numerous relatives and friends.

Eileen’s earliest memories were attending church at Ruban’s one room schoolhouse joined by neighbors and family. The services and hymns shared there gave her considerable comfort and joy throughout her life. Eileen was active in the Mankato United Methodist Church where she participated in church functions. She was also active in community affairs; she helped to deliver Meals for the Aged well into her 90’s. Eileen was a member of the Superior Women’s Auxiliary; she and Wayne were also active in the Webber Methodist Church. Eileen and Wayne were very instrumental in the annual Memorial Day Ceremonies at the Webber cemetery. Her passionate work at the Jewell County Senior Center earned her Volunteer of the Year for Jewell County.

Visitation will be Friday October 31, 2025 from 9:00am – 10:00am at Nutter Mortuary, Concordia, KS.

Funeral Services will be Friday October 31, 2025 at 10:00am at Nutter Mortuary with Pastor Al Paredes officiating.

The Burial will follow the service at Webber Cemetery, Webber, KS.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials are suggested to the Pawnee Indian Museum State Historic Site, Republic, KS.

Virginia Eileen Reed

Dennis Lowell Burt, age 75, entered into rest on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at his home in Belleville, Kansas. He was born on June 25, 1950, in Concordia, Kansas to Raymond and Berniece (Lewis) Burt.

Dennis grew up in the Norway community attending grade school in Norway.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was a 1968 graduate of Concordia High School. Dennis graduated from Cloud County Community College, Concordia, KS, Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree, Manhattan, KS and received his Master's in Business Administration Degree from Rockhurst University, Kansas City, MO.

Dennis served in the United States Army and Navy.&nbsp;&nbsp;He served from July 1973 through September 1993.&nbsp;&nbsp;He graduated from Naval Flight School, Army Air Borne School, Army Sniper School, Army Special Forces, Army Rangers School, and Navy Supply Corps School.&nbsp;&nbsp;During his service he received Silver Stars (3), Bronze Stars (4) a Purple Heart, Navy Commendation Medals, National Defense Medals, Vietnam Service Medal, Iraq Service Medal, Kuwait Service Medal, Expert Rifle Medal, Expert Pistol Medal, Expert Hand Grenade Medal and Naval Reserve Medal.&nbsp;&nbsp;He retired from military service with the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

Dennis was a farmer and cattleman in the local community for many years. His favorite hobby was taking care of his Black Charolais Cattle.&nbsp;&nbsp;He also loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.

He was a member of and helped contribute to, local 4-H, FFA, Kids Wrestling, ROTC, Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, Wounded Warrior Project, and The Golden Bell Senior Citizens Center.

Dennis is preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Berniece Burt, brothers, Kevin Burt, Daryl Burt, and his sister, Donna Sue Hodgins.

Dennis is survived by his loving wife Rosemary Burt, three sons, Chad Burt (Camille), Brent Burt (Teri), and Heath Burt, his brother, Marlin Burt (Genevieve), sister-in-law Kathy Burt (Daryl), and brother-in-law John Hodgins (Donna Sue) and nine grandchildren, Ashlyn, Bethany, Paxton, Chase, Caden, Braxton, Bristol Burt, Hudson and Maddox Briggs.

A visitation will be held on Friday, October 31, 2025, from 1-8 pm with the family receiving friends from 6-8 pm at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.

A Celebration of Life service will be held from 10:00 AM, on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home with Pastor Earl Hale officiating.&nbsp;&nbsp;The burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery, South of Belleville and West on Queen Rd. Dennis Lowell Burt

Samuel Ray Owens passed away on October 24, 2025 at his home in Salina, KS. He was born, along with his twin sister, Sally, on June 26, 1953 in Independence, KS to Jack and Lorna (Koehling) Owens. &nbsp;In the early 60’s, Jack moved their young family to Chapman and ran the local grocery store. &nbsp;Sam spent his younger years working at the store until he graduated from Chapman High School in 1971. &nbsp;He married Debra (Zumbrunn) Owens on June 23, 1979 and they had three children: Justin, Kyle, and Samantha. &nbsp;After raising a family in Chapman, Sam relocated to Salina where he later met and married Kimberlee (Brown) Owens on May 23, 2015.&nbsp;

He spent time coaching his children’s baseball and softball teams, while also teaching them how to play other sports and developed their love for the game of golf. He was also an avid sports fan, cheering for the Kansas State Wildcats, Kansas City Chiefs, and Royals. When he wasn’t busy with sports you would find him outdoors hunting and fishing. &nbsp;He enjoyed seeing his family, especially to celebrate the 4th of July.

Sam never knew a stranger. &nbsp;This translated well into his career as a sales representative; most of his working years were spent with the trucking line of USF Dugan in Salina. &nbsp;In public, it was a common occurrence for him to strike up conversation with individuals whether it was an old acquaintance or just someone willing to talk in order to pass the time.

He took great pride in the accomplishments of his children and was always eager to boast of their successes. &nbsp;He made it clear that he wanted his children to enjoy a better life than his and worked hard to make that happen.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Lorna Owens of Chapman. He is survived by his wife, Kimberlee of the home, sons Justin Owens (Jessica), Kyle Owens (Rachel), daughter Samantha Orr (Tim), father Jack Owens, brother Dennis Owens (Kathy), and sisters Sally Sowell and Lori Gilmore (Jay). He also leaves behind 5 granddaughters, 1 grandson, and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday November 8th located at Rosie’s On Iron, 125 E Iron Ave. Salina, KS. &nbsp;We are planning a fun casual come and go event between 4-8pm. &nbsp;We will have heavy hors d’oeuvres and drinks. &nbsp;We look forward to friends and family joining us in celebrating the life of Sam Owens.

Samuel Ray Owens

Thomas Michael Billings was born on December 31, 1939, at a hospital in Spearville, Kansas. His mother, Lillian Horning Billings, had worked at the hospital for a week prior, anticipating his arrival and worried that a storm might prevent her from getting to the hospital from their home on the farm. Waiting to greet them at home were his father, Wayne Gordon Billings, and his siblings, Phyllis and Bill.

Growing up on a farm outside of Jetmore, KS, Tom learned the value of hard work from an early age. His days were filled with chores, school, horseback riding, and church activities. He graduated from high school in a class of 19 students, where he played football and basketball. At the age of 12, Tom was baptized at their home church, the United Presbyterian Church in Jetmore, KS.&nbsp; During his youth, two missionary doctors spoke at his church, making a significant impression on Tom. Though he initially trained in agriculture during high school, Tom decided he was called to be a missionary doctor, leaving the farm to study science at Sterling College.&nbsp;

Tom met Nancy McCreery during his senior year at Sterling. A year after Tom graduated in 1962, Tom and Nancy married on August 2, 1963. Nancy supported them by teaching fourth grade for three years while Tom completed medical school, graduating in 1966. On October 23 of that same year, their first son, Brian Michael, was born, as Tom finished his residency at General Hospital in Kansas City.

The family moved to the Cheyenne River Sioux tribe’s headquarters in Eagle Butte, South Dakota. Tom worked as a physician there with the Public Health Service for two years. Tom and Nancy’s second son, David Allen was born on December 31, 1968, in Eagle Butte.

From his early teens, Tom felt led to serve as a medical missionary in Africa. He and Nancy applied to the Evangelical Covenant Church for mission service and were approved for a two-year term as short-term missionaries in Congo. Tom's role was to work at Karawa Hospital while two career missionaries were on furlough. Despite having no prior language training, Tom thrived in his medical work, learning Lingala and fixing a broken X-ray machine at the hospital despite limited medical supplies.

While in Congo, Tom wrote letters home seeking a position for a family practice physician, eventually choosing McPherson, Kansas. Over the next 54 years in McPherson, Tom remained busy as a physician, a family man, and a generous financial giver to international missions in Africa, and around the world.

Their third son, John Todd, was born on June 9, 1973. Tom was a devoted father, often reading to his boys from books like C.S. Lewis's&nbsp;The Chronicles of Narnia&nbsp;and&nbsp;Space Trilogy, and J.R.R. Tolkien’s&nbsp;The Hobbit.

While living in McPherson, Tom continued to participate in short-term missions as a physician, including trips to Ecuador, Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Uganda. A man of deep faith, Tom loved studying the Bible, focusing particularly on Genesis, Hebrews, and Revelation. He often taught Sunday school, served as an elder in his church, and expressed his beliefs through letters to the editor. He authored a book titled&nbsp;Reality Living&nbsp;and created several pamphlets for his office to help his patients make wise decisions in our complicated world.&nbsp;

Tom also valued physical fitness, participating in basketball, golf, swimming, and running in over 30 marathons. A highlight of his running career was qualifying for the Boston Marathon, where he proudly wore a shirt proclaiming "Jesus is Lord" on the front and "His Word is Truth" on the back.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy Billings of McPherson; three children, Brian (Sheila) Billings of McPherson; David (Esther) Billings of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and Todd (Rachel) Billings of Holland, Michigan; six grandchildren, Catherine Billings, Naomi Billings, Anastasia Billings, Xavier Billings, Netsanet Billings, and Nathaniel Billings; sister, Phyllis Olsen; Nancy’s niece and cherished friend of Tom and Nancy, Lisa (Mark) Sylvester, and her daughters Elizabeth (AJ) Hawkins, Rebecca (JD) Dalk, and Sara (Dennis) Frank.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Lillian Billings, and his brother, William (Bill) G. Billings.&nbsp;

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 8, 2025, at New Hope Evangelical Church with Pastor George Bocox officiating.&nbsp; The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM until service time at the church. Burial will follow the service at McPherson Cemetery.

 </figure>Thomas Michael Billings was born on December 31, 1939, at a hospital in Spearville, Kansas. His mother, Lillian Horning Billings, had worked at the hospital for a week prior, anticipating his arrival and worried that a storm might prevent her from getting to the hospital from their home on the farm. Waiting to greet them at home were his father, Wayne Gordon Billings, and his siblings, Phyllis and Bill.Growing up on a farm outside of Jetmore, KS, Tom learned the value of hard work from an early age. His days were filled with chores, school, horseback riding, and church activities. He graduated from high school in a class of 19 students, where he played football and basketball. At the age of 12, Tom was baptized at their home church, the United Presbyterian Church in Jetmore, KS.&nbsp; During his youth, two missionary doctors spoke at his church, making a significant impression on Tom. Though he initially trained in agriculture during high school, Tom decided he was called to be a missionary doctor, leaving the farm to study science at Sterling College.&nbsp;Tom met Nancy McCreery during his senior year at Sterling. A year after Tom graduated in 1962, Tom and Nancy married on August 2, 1963. Nancy supported them by teaching fourth grade for three years while Tom completed medical school, graduating in 1966. On October 23 of that same year, their first son, Brian Michael, was born, as Tom finished his residency at General Hospital in Kansas City.The family moved to the Cheyenne River Sioux tribe’s headquarters in Eagle Butte, South Dakota. Tom worked as a physician there with the Public Health Service for two years. Tom and Nancy’s second son, David Allen was born on December 31, 1968, in Eagle Butte.From his early teens, Tom felt led to serve as a medical missionary in Africa. He and Nancy applied to the Evangelical Covenant Church for mission service and were approved for a two-year term as short-term missionaries in Congo. Tom's role was to work at Karawa Hospital while two career missionaries were on furlough. Despite having no prior language training, Tom thrived in his medical work, learning Lingala and fixing a broken X-ray machine at the hospital despite limited medical supplies.While in Congo, Tom wrote letters home seeking a position for a family practice physician, eventually choosing McPherson, Kansas. Over the next 54 years in McPherson, Tom remained busy as a physician, a family man, and a generous financial giver to international missions in Africa, and around the world.Their third son, John Todd, was born on June 9, 1973. Tom was a devoted father, often reading to his boys from books like C.S. Lewis's&nbsp;The Chronicles of Narnia&nbsp;and&nbsp;Space Trilogy, and J.R.R. Tolkien’s&nbsp;The Hobbit.While living in McPherson, Tom continued to participate in short-term missions as a physician, including trips to Ecuador, Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Uganda. A man of deep faith, Tom loved studying the Bible, focusing particularly on Genesis, Hebrews, and Revelation. He often taught Sunday school, served as an elder in his church, and expressed his beliefs through letters to the editor. He authored a book titled&nbsp;Reality Living&nbsp;and created several pamphlets for his office to help his patients make wise decisions in our complicated world.&nbsp;Tom also valued physical fitness, participating in basketball, golf, swimming, and running in over 30 marathons. Thomas Michael Billings

Elouise Patricia (Neill) Edwards was born on July 13, 1937, in Salina, Kansas, to the parents of Harvey and Alice (Vandruff) Neill.&nbsp; Elouise enjoyed the outdoors while fishing, camping, and later in life, became an avid golfer.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was able to attend a golf tournament to watch Tiger Woods play.&nbsp;&nbsp;Her interests also included playing bridge, spending the winters in Texas, and socializing with her friends.

Elouise married Jack Edwards on November 8, 1968, in Pampa, Texas.&nbsp; They settled in McPherson, Kansas where she lived for 53 years until moving into Pine Village in Moundridge Kansas. Her marriage with Jack included her four children; Pamela, Angelina, Lynette, and Jeff.&nbsp; The youngest was to lose his life in a tragic car accident, which deeply affected the entire family. Jeff had accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, which made saying goodbye to Jeff a little easier.

In addition to her outdoor activities, Elouise’s years in McPherson were filled with raising a family, spending time with friends, and was joint owner of Edwards Backhoe Service and Edwards Oil Properties.&nbsp; Elouise was a very important part of making those businesses successful.

She also had a knack for interior decorating, which was very evident in all her homes.&nbsp; In her life, she was always willing to help people with their decorating questions or needs.&nbsp; Her ability to look at decorating issues and see multiple solutions was a great attribute.&nbsp;

In her younger days, Elouise sang hymns for church services and weddings.&nbsp; Now, all the hymns she sang as a vocalist have become a reality to her. There must have been a great rejoicing when Jeff, Jack, and Elouise met in heaven.

Elouise passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Pine Village, Moundridge, at the age of 88.

Survivors include: three daughters, Pamela Wilson (Roy) of Fulton, IL, Angelina Bonham (Vernon) of McPherson, KS, and Lynette Reagan of McPherson, KS; a brother, Tom Neill&nbsp; (Phyllis) of Wichita, KS; and a sister, Joyce Tauscher of Hays, KS; seven grandchildren, Andrew Bonham, Amanda Wilson, Rachel (Bonham) Anderson, Jeff Wilson, Nathan Reagan, Emily (Reagan) Speirs, and Josh Wilson; 14 great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack Edwards; a son, Jeffery Holtzclaw; and one brother, Lorne Neill.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, October 30, 2025, at the McPherson Cemetery.

Deborah Searcy, 73, of Salina, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 23, 2025. 

Born on July 18, 1952, in Junction City, Kansas, she was the beloved daughter of Charles and Mary (Barrett) Brown.&nbsp;Deborah spent much of her career as a Unit Secretary at Salina Regional Health Center, where she was known for her dedication and steady presence. In retirement, she found joy in spending time with her family, watching her grandchildren grow, and collecting snowmen—small things that brought her quiet happiness.&nbsp;

She leaves behind her devoted husband, Thomas Searcy, with whom she just celebrated 54 years of marriage. She also leaves behind two children: Jake Searcy of Salina, Kansas, and Blair (Jason) Cox of Wichita, Kansas.&nbsp;Deborah was a proud grandmother to Wesley, Addison, Ryann, Kennadi, and Aislinn. She is survived by several nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.&nbsp;Deborah is also survived by her three brothers, who shared in her life’s journey: Michael (Kathleen) Brown of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; Steve Brown of Salina, Kansas; and Mark Brown of Columbia, Missouri.

Duane Lee Ferguson, 91, passed away peacefully at his home on October 25th, 2025, in Salina KS.

Born on October 1st, 1934, in Grand Island, NE. Duane was the son of Harry Ferguson and Clarabelle (Brust) Ferguson. He later moved to Salina, KS where he attended Salina High School and laid the foundation of the of a life marked by dedication to family, faith, and hard work.

Throughout his working years, Duane held many varied jobs. His true passion was in sales – he had a natural gift for connecting with people and never met a stranger.

Duane married Laveda Johannes, the love of his life, on May 1st, 1954. They shared 71 years together. He is survived by his wife and children Connie (Roy) Rivers, Mike, Greg and Jim (Farah), 11 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Darrell and his daughter Cathy. He instilled strong values in his family that continues to guide them today.

In earlier years, Duane found joy in fishing and boating with his family. As time went on, he cherished the moments spent with his grandchildren and took pleasure in simple pastimes like working in the yard, working on puzzles and completing word searches. He loved being outdoors – traveling, camping and enjoying nature.

A man of deep faith, Duane was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Salina. He loved his Lord and Savior.

Duane Lee Ferguson will be remembered for his zest for life, his laughter, his unwavering work ethic and the love he shared with all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his passing.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 30th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. 8th St., Salina. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. at Ryan Mortuary. Duane Lee Ferguson

Marilyn Joyce Correll Helmer, 84, of Tescott, KS died October 22, 2025, at St. Francis Via Christi Hospital in Wichita, KS. Marilyn was born August 29, 1941, in Detroit, KS to Alice McCosh Correll and Frank Edison Correll. Marilyn’s mother Alice was a homemaker and Marilyn’s father Frank was the superintendent of Dickinson County schools and Secretary of the Mutal Aid Association of the Church of the Brethren. Marilyn graduated from Chapman High School in 1959 and attended McPherson College.

It was at McPherson College that Marilyn met Martin Helmer of Canton, KS. They got married on December 23, 1961. Martin and Marilyn started their married lives in Buckeye, KS. 3 children followed, Patty, Paul and Jon.

Marilyn was gifted as a vocalist. At Chapman High School, Marilyn performed with the Harmonettes quartet, who received recognition and awards regionally and at the state level. Marilyn was a member of the Sweet Adelines in Abilene.

The family moved to Tescott in 1965 where Martin was Principal of Tescott Grade School for 36 years and Marilyn immersed herself in community and school activities. She entertained many friends, neighbors, relatives and her children’s friends in their home. Everyone was welcome and greeted with a beverage, snack or meal.

Marilyn had two grandchildren, Aaron and Conner, and two great-grandchildren, Thomas and Nathan. Visits to Grandma and Grandpa’s house through the years resulted in consuming Grandpa burgers, many pies and cookies, Kansas history lessons, family history and soaking up lots of love.

Marilyn was especially fond of children, and was the mom, aunt or cousin who always “sat at the children’s table” to help entertain the children. Her relatives, friends, neighbors, grandchildren and great-grandchildren have witnessed, benefitted and maybe gotten into some trouble due to her fun-loving and slightly rebellious nature.

As her children left the nest Marilyn started her career as a business owner and Kansas Ambassador. Marilyn opened Village Lines in Lincoln, KS in 1986, supporting and featuring Kansas artists. Marilyn incorporated her knowledge and desire to provide healthy, natural and gluten free food items to her line.

Through the year she has forged friendships in Lincoln and across Kansas in the effort to showcase the Sunflower state and the town of Lincoln. She helped launch Kansas Originals located on 1-70, showcasing Kansas artists and makers. She twice served as Lincoln Chamber of Commerce President, helped establish the Northeast Kansas Tourism Commission, and served on a year-long Governor’s Tourism Task Force. She was recognized as a “We Can” recipient of the Kansas Sampler Foundation, was recognized by the Kansas Legislature as one of Kansas’ businesses of the year, and was featured with life-long friend Terry Tietjens in Kansas! Magazine as a “Kansas Finest” for promoting Kansas.

Marilyn co-authored with Shirley Buchanan “A True Account of the 1911 ‘Tar Party’ of Shady Bend, Kansas”, blending her love of Kansas history and story-telling. Marlin Fitzwater, former White House Press Secretary and a friend of Marilyn’s wrote the forward for the book and helped promote it.

Survivors include her husband, Martin of Tescott;&nbsp; daughter Patty Sargent and husband Andy of Papillion, NE; son Jon Helmer of Denver, Co; son Paul Helmer of Henderson, NV; grandsons Aaron Sargent of LaVista, NE and Conner Sargent of Pelham, NH; great grandchildren Thomas Sargent and Nathan Sargent of LaVista, NE; sister Nadene Lauer (Keith, deceased) of McPherson, KS; sister-in-law Eleanor Correll (Dale, deceased of Abilene, KS.&nbsp; Marilyn is also survived by brothers-in-law David Helmer (Marilyn), Paul Helmer (Charlene), Ted Helmer (Carolyn), sister-in-law Cynthia Helmer (Luther, deceased) and brother-in-law Keith Stuewe (Ruth, deceased), and many nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sister Doris Moore and husband Maurice of Waterloo, IA, and brother Dale Correll (deceased) of Abilene, KS.

Whether doling out sunflower seed cookies, pie, a cup of coffee or imparting wisdom, showing love through hospitality was her passion. Marilyn shared her infectious personality, generous spirit and genuine caring nature to all who knew her. She was a deeply committed Christian who shared the light of Jesus through the way she lived her life and through her love and caring concern for everyone she encountered.

 </figure>Marilyn Joyce Correll Helmer, 84, of Tescott, KS died October 22, 2025, at St. Francis Via Christi Hospital in Wichita, KS. Marilyn was born August 29, 1941, in Detroit, KS to Alice McCosh Correll and Frank Edison Correll. Marilyn’s mother Alice was a homemaker and Marilyn’s father Frank was the superintendent of Dickinson County schools and Secretary of the Mutal Aid Association of the Church of the Brethren. Marilyn graduated from Chapman High School in 1959 and attended McPherson College.It was at McPherson College that Marilyn met Martin Helmer of Canton, KS. They got married on December 23, 1961. Martin and Marilyn started their married lives in Buckeye, KS. 3 children followed, Patty, Paul and Jon.Marilyn was gifted as a vocalist. At Chapman High School, Marilyn performed with the Harmonettes quartet, who received recognition and awards regionally and at the state level. Marilyn was a member of the Sweet Adelines in Abilene.The family moved to Tescott in 1965 where Martin was Principal of Tescott Grade School for 36 years and Marilyn immersed herself in community and school activities. She entertained many friends, neighbors, relatives and her children’s friends in their home. Everyone was welcome and greeted with a beverage, snack or meal.Marilyn had two grandchildren, Aaron and Conner, and two great-grandchildren, Thomas and Nathan. Visits to Grandma and Grandpa’s house through the years resulted in consuming Grandpa burgers, many pies and cookies, Kansas history lessons, family history and soaking up lots of love.Marilyn was especially fond of children, and was the mom, aunt or cousin who always “sat at the children’s table” to help entertain the children. Her relatives, friends, neighbors, grandchildren and great-grandchildren have witnessed, benefitted and maybe gotten into some trouble due to her fun-loving and slightly rebellious nature.As her children left the nest Marilyn started her career as a business owner and Kansas Ambassador. Marilyn opened Village Lines in Lincoln, KS in 1986, supporting and featuring Kansas artists. Marilyn incorporated her knowledge and desire to provide healthy, natural and gluten free food items to her line.Through the year she has forged friendships in Lincoln and across Kansas in the effort to showcase the Sunflower state and the town of Lincoln. She helped launch Kansas Originals located on 1-70, showcasing Kansas artists and makers. She twice served as Lincoln Chamber of Commerce President, helped establish the Northeast Kansas Tourism Commission, and served on a year-long Governor’s Tourism Task Force. She was recognized as a “We Can” recipient of the Kansas Sampler Foundation, was recognized by the Kansas Legislature as one of Kansas’ businesses of the year, and was featured with life-long friend Terry Tietjens in Kansas! Magazine as a “Kansas Finest” for promoting Kansas.Marilyn co-authored with Shirley Buchanan “A True Account of the 1911 ‘Tar Party’ of Shady Bend, Kansas”, blending her love of Kansas history and story-telling. Marilyn Joyce Correll Helmer

Betty Ann (Rolfs) Waters, 98, passed away peacefully on the evening of October 20, 2025.

Betty was a lifelong resident of Junction City and an active member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. Betty had a keen mind and a gracious heart, loved singing in the Presbyterian Church Choir, being active in PEO and Ladies Reading Club, and doting on her eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She led a beautiful, full life and was known for her bright smile and loving heart. Betty passed the day before what would have been her husband's birthday, so after about 17 years apart, she was reunited with Bob to celebrate with him in heaven.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Bob Waters, parents E.W. and Evelina Rolfs, and her brother E. J. Rolfs.

She is survived by her sister-in-law Eunice Rolfs (Junction City), her three children and their spouses: Jim (Bev) Waters (Salina, Kansas), Peggy (Glen) Erickson (Wichita, Kansas), Clarence (Jean) Waters (Omaha, Nebraska); eight grandchildren: Steven Waters, Scott Waters, Jennifer Waters, Christopher (Katie) Erickson, Alexandra (Dusty) Kossen, Sean Erickson, Lela (Tim) Wilson, Paul Waters; seven great-grandchildren – all who will forever cherish her memory.

Visitation will be Friday, November 7th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Johnson &amp; Mass-Hinitt Funeral Home in Junction City. Funeral service will be Saturday, November 8th at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Junction City.

Linda Collins, a beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, left this world peacefully on October 21, 2025, at the age of 74. She was born in December of 1950, in Hays, Kansas, to Jerry and Corinne Wilson, and spent her life enriching those around her with her unwavering spirit and love for music.

In June of 1976, Linda married the love of her life, Barry Collins, of Salina, Kansas. They shared a deep bond and a mutual love for music until Barry's passing in June 2023.

Linda was a proud mother to her, daughter Amy Collins and son Robert Collins, who, along with his wife Kathryn Collins, continue to carry forth her values of compassion and creativity. She found immense joy in being a grandmother to her two granddaughters, Samantha and Abigail,&nbsp;

Her family also included her sister Carolee Little and her husband Barry Little of Castlewood SD, and a brother Marc Wilson and his wife Cathi of Manhattan KS and Sister-in-law Mary Collins of Council Grove. &nbsp;She is also survived by Leon and Laura Miller, her uncle and aunt, of Dallas TX. &nbsp; &nbsp;Linda also has 3 cousins, five nephews and four nieces and 10 great-nieces and nephews.

Linda's joy for music was obvious to those she taught during her 35-year career teaching music in the Salina area. Beyond the classroom her influence reached countless students as she served as the Director of the Salina Children's Choir and the Salina Silvertones Choir, As well as singing with the Trinity United Methodist Church Choir and the Salina Chorale.

Linda's spirit was characterized by her joyfulness, positivity, and an unwavering willingness to encourage those around her. &nbsp;It is difficult to recall her ever speaking discouraging word.&nbsp;

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Good Shepherd Hospice and Kenwood View Rehabilitation for their compassionate care.

A celebration of life is scheduled for 11am on November 11th, 2025 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Salina KS. &nbsp;To honor Mrs. Collins please be prepared to “sing from your diaphragm!”

Daniel Hyde Moss, 91, of Salina, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025.

Born in Beloit, Kansas, on August 9, 1934, to Eva (Vanschoick) and Leroy Moss, Dan lived a full and adventurous life. In his younger years, he found joy in skydiving and scuba diving around island destinations. He was also a passionate big game hunter and a dedicated collector of firearms.

In 1954, Dan married the love of his life, Berta Timbers Moss. Together, they shared many happy years until her passing in 2022. Dan’s career as a water well driller took him and his family across various states, shaping a life rich in experience and resilience.

Dan is survived by his daughter, Krista Decker (Kurt); sons, Zan Moss (Kerry) and Arden Moss (Jodi); sister, Evelyn Adams; and sister-in-law, Bernita Eberle. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Jordan, Kanah, Preston, Sarah, Janny Tam, Kayli, and Libby; as well as 13 great-grandchildren who brought him immense pride and joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife, Berta, two brothers, and two sisters.Cremation has been chosen, and a memorial service will be held at a later date to be determined.

Rosemary Eva (Rosie Beach) Cowan passed away October 22, 2025, at the age of 84. She was born in Hays, Kansas, on February 22, 1941, to Glenn and Eva Beach of WaKeeney, Kansas.

Following graduation from WaKeeney High School, she attended and graduated from Kansas Wesleyan College in Salina. She married Wendell Cowan in 1962 then moved to Bennington where she taught music in the school system for three years.

A move to Wichita resulted in the birth of two sons. The next move was to Whitewater, Kansas, where she taught kindergarten for the next 21 years. She retired in 1997. Her final move after her husband retired from teaching was to Lucas, Kansas.

She is survived by her husband Wendell of 63 years, by their first son Stanley (Sherry) Cowan and their two sons Sawyer and Samson and a daughter Sydney, and by their second son Steven (Missie) Cowan and their two daughters Grace and Joy, and son Grant.

Rosie is also survived by a sister Barbara Mace and a brother Ray Beach.

Rosie Eva Cowan

Joyce LaVonne Ades (née Hanson), age 92, of Salina, Kansas, passed away on Friday, October 17, 2025.

Joyce was born in Dayton, Iowa, to William and Florence Hanson and grew up in Boxholm, Iowa, alongside her older sister Francis Borich and older brother William Hanson, Jr. She was married and had two daughters which she raised on her own. Joyce spent most of her adult life in Salina, Kansas, raising daughters Peggy Sue Hayes and Cindy Lea Bieker Resley.&nbsp;

She worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse, serving the Salina community with dedication and care. She also found the time to help at the local United Methodist Church on camping trips with her daughters.&nbsp;

Joyce had a lifelong love of animals. She was active in the dog show community as both a participant and judge and later developed a fondness for cats. In her retirement, she enjoyed playing the bells with the Charming Chimers, reading, and collecting glass baskets.

She is survived by her granddaughters, Stephanie Bieker of New York, NY, and Rachel Bieker of Bennington, KS, and her great-grandson, Ryan Bieker of Bennington, KS.She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and her daughters Peggy Sue and Cindy Lea. She is loved and remembered by those family and friends who remain.&nbsp;

The family will hold a private memorial in Boxholm, Iowa at a later date.

Joyce LaVonne Ades (née Hanson)

Barbara Jean Tanuis, 82, passed away October 19, 2025. She was born on March 15, 1943, in Wilson, Kansas to Christian Stoppel and Anna Eaton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Christian Stoppel and Anna (Eaton) Stoppel; husband, Theodore Tanuis Sr.; son, Jeffrey Tanuis; and sisters, Ann Heller, Elaine Stithem, and Dorthy Welborn.

She is survived by her sons, Edward Tanuis, Theodore Tanuis Jr., Roger Tanuis, and Douglas Tanuis; her daughter, Laurie Davidson; brother Chris Stoppel; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Barbara will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She was born on March 15, 1943, in Wilson, Kansas to Christian Stoppel and Anna Eaton.She was preceded in death by her parents, Christian Stoppel and Anna (Eaton) Stoppel; husband, Theodore Tanuis Sr.; son, Jeffrey Tanuis; and sisters, Ann Heller, Elaine Stithem, and Dorthy Welborn.She is survived by her sons, Edward Tanuis, Theodore Tanuis Jr., Roger Tanuis, and Douglas Tanuis; her daughter, Laurie Davidson; brother Chris Stoppel; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.Barbara will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.Per her wishes no services will be held.Memorials can be made to the family in care of Ryan Mortuary, 137 N 8th&nbsp;St. Salina, KS.

Barbara Jean Tanuis 

Patricia Geralyn Hake, 65, of Salina, passed away on October 20, 2025. She was born on February 25, 1960, in Concordia, Kansas, to Herman Joseph and Phyllis Maxine (Bossen) Hake.

Patricia's greatest passion in life was thrifting—she never missed a yard sale in Salina. With a keen eye for hidden gems and vintage collectibles, she had a talent for finding treasures and always negotiated the best price. She often traveled across the state to flea markets to sell her finds, making stops at local antique malls and yard sales along the way.

She also loved attending local concerts in Salina, going to as many as she could. Patricia was a devoted supporter of local bands and welcomed any musician who visited the area.

Patricia and her husband, John, enjoyed vacationing in Nashville, where they embraced the city's lively music scene, delicious food, and rich history.

She was preceded in death by her parents Herman and Phyllis Hake; her brothers, Lonny and Richie; and her sister, Judy.

She is survived by her husband, John Keil; her sisters, Joy Roush and Debbie (Danny) Kern; her brother, Jim (Doris) Hake; and her children, Jeremy Snapp, Shannon Snapp, and Amy Frank.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina. A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, also at Ryan Mortuary, followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Jamestown, Kansas.

Patricia Geralyn Hake

Karl Kent Kavel, M.D.,&nbsp;was born on March 29, 1936, in Tyrone, Pennsylvania, the son of George C. and Naomi R. (Harris) Kavel.

Kent led a distinguished career in medicine. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Pittsburgh in 1959, followed by a Doctor of Medicine degree in 1964 from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest College. He completed a residency in Pediatrics at Walter Reed General Hospital in Washington, D.C., in 1968 and became board-certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in 1970.

In 1971, Kent pursued a residency in Pediatric Allergy at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. The following year, he passed the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts, certifying him to practice medicine and surgery in the state. He completed a fellowship in Pediatric Allergy at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1972 and became board-certified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology in 1974.

He was devoted to the care of children and their families and practiced medicine with compassion, curiosity, and commitment. Remarkably, he continued working well into his late 70s, retiring at the age of 80.

Kent married the love of his life, Marcia Kathryn Bonebreak on August 5, 1961, in Martinsburg, Pennsylvania. They shared 57 wonderful years of marriage before her passing. His favorite thing to do was anything that included Marcia. Together, they enjoyed socializing, traveling, reading, yard work, crossword puzzles, wine, and lifelong learning.

Kent was a unique individual—highly intelligent, yet equally gifted in athletics and the arts. He earned a full-ride scholarship to Harvard University to play quarterback for their football team, a dream cut short by an injury sustained during the final practice of his high school football season. Beyond medicine, he was a talented artist, whether it be caricatures, realistic paintings, or designing houses.

Above all, Kent was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Kevin) Desbien of Lindsborg, Kansas; his two grandchildren, Hayes and Isabelle; and his brother, Tim Kavel of Saint Simons Island, Georgia.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marcia.

Cremation has taken place, and in accordance with Kent’s wishes, no memorial services are planned. A private inurnment will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery at a later date.

Barbara Ruth Mallon, 88, of Salina, Kansas, passed away on Monday, October 20, 2025.

Born in Lyons Kansas, Barbara graduated Boulder High School. Homesick for Kansas, she returned to get her BS in medical technology at K-State beginning a lifetime career in healthcare. During her senior year of college, she completed an internship at the State Hospital in Pueblo, Colorado, and then began a series of further adventures: first the Northern Pacific Beneficial Hospital in Glendive, Montana, (where she enjoyed square dancing and friendships), then her faith led her to a position at the Maynard-McDougal Memorial Hospital in Nome, Alaska (as part of a Methodist mission), before returning home to Boulder in 1962 and briefly working at Colorado General in Denver. 

Soon she accepted a position at Presbyterian Mora Valley Medical Clinic in the mountains of New Mexico, where she stayed for two years, before returning to home in Kansas and a job in Salina. She spent nearly 40 years working in the laboratory at what was then Asbury Hospital (and is now Salina Regional Health Center).

It was in Salina that she joined a church group for young adults, finding many friends, and ultimately a special man, Jerry, to whom she was married until his passing in 2015.

Throughout her long life, she was guided and comforted by her Christian faith, and she manifested her faith in the concern she had for others, including the support she offered to her mother, her brother Ralph, and her husband during long illnesses.

Barbara is survived by her two sons, Ron Mallon (Johnelle Lamarque) and Gary Mallon; two brothers, Ray McKinnis (Nan Scarborough) and Lawrence McKinnis; and two grandchildren, Avanel Mallon and Louis Mallon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jerry Mallon; and brothers Dean McKinnis and Ralph McKinnis.A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 1, 2025 at Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home with burial to follow at Gypsum Hill Cemetery in Salina, Kansas.

Garry H. Batt, 81, of rural Russell, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at his home with his wife by his side.

Batt, 81, of rural Russell, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at his home with his wife by his side.Garry was born October 29, 1943 in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; He was one of three children to Herman and Esther (Elsasser) Batt.&nbsp; He grew up in northern Barton County and graduated from Hoisington High School in 1961.&nbsp; He then attended and graduated from the Missouri Auction School in Kansas City, Missouri.&nbsp; He served his country in the US Army from 1962 to 1964 and saw active duty in Vietnam.&nbsp; After his tour of duty, he returned to northern Barton County.Garry met, fell in love, and was united in marriage to Ellen Boxberger on October 23, 1965 in Milberger, Kansas.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two sons; Terry and Tom.&nbsp; They lived in Milberger for a short time before moving out to the farm.Garry was a Farmer and Rancher.&nbsp; He also was owner and operator of Garry Batt Real Estate Auction and worked with Don Krug with K&amp;B Auction Service.&nbsp; He was very active in trap shooting contests for many years.&nbsp; He was an oil pumper for many years and did dirt work for H.S. Radke.&nbsp; He served on the Township Board for 35 years.&nbsp; He was a member of the American Trap Association and the Kansas Trap Association and was a life member of the Russell V.F.W. #6240.&nbsp; He loved playing Polka with the Dutchmasters and the Polka Kings.&nbsp; In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and traveling around with Ellen.Garry’s surviving family include his wife of 59 years, Ellen of the home; son, Tom Batt (Sandy) of Russell, Kansas; sister, Shirley Dewald of Russell, Kansas; two grandchildren, Christopher Batt and Cody Batt; two step grandchildren, Craig Boos and Jakob Boos; three great grandchildren, Sophia Batt, Hagen Batt, and Cheyenne Batt; and step great grandchild, Claire Boos.Garry was preceded in death by his parents; son, Terry Batt; and sister, Arletta Batt.Celebration of Garry’s Life will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, October 24, 2025 at St. John Lutheran Church of Russell.&nbsp; Burial will follow at the Trinity Bender Hill Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Thursday, October 23, 2025 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, where the family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.&nbsp; A memorial has been established with the Trinity Bender Hill Cemetery Fund.&nbsp; Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
