Lawrence Sander, age 87, of Salina passed away peacefully Thursday, July 3, 2025.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He was born February 6, 1938, on the family farm in Walker, Kansas to Anton P. and Rosa (Nemecheck) Sander.&nbsp; Lawrence was the&nbsp;10th of 11 children.&nbsp; He grew up enjoying the outdoors.&nbsp; He graduated from Victoria High School in 1957.&nbsp; He worked in Russell for Carter Block plant and eventually met&nbsp;the&nbsp;love of his life Barbara Brown.&nbsp; They had a short engagement and were married January&nbsp;30, 1965.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He moved to Salina in 1966 and started working for Hawker Beechcraft&nbsp;where he worked for 35 years.&nbsp; Lawrence never knew a stranger and would strike up a conversation with anyone. You could always find Lawrence outside and enjoying&nbsp;the summer sun.&nbsp; He was passionate about keeping his lawn the envy of the neighborhood. It was always green and nicely maintained.&nbsp; He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle and later cruising the neighborhood on his tricycle.&nbsp; In the fall, he would focus on cheering on his favorite team, Go Chiefs!&nbsp;

Left to mourn are his son Kevin Sander and wife Jessica.&nbsp; His two sisters, Sister Helen Sander CSA, Fond du Lac WI; and Rosie Nash, Dallas TX.&nbsp; Plus many nieces, nephews, extended family, and the friends he made along the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Barbara of 39 years, six sisters and two brothers.

Lawrence Sander

Aaron John Klaassen, age 44, passed away at Select Specialty Hospital at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, KS. He was born on April 27, 1981, in Lawrence, Kansas, to David and Margaret Klaassen. Aaron was a member of the Topeka Reformed Presbyterian Church. In 2003, Aaron earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business from Bethany College, in Lindsborg, Kansas. He then attended Kansas State University, where he earned a Masters Degree in Business Administration. He served as a fiscal analyst for the Kansas Legislative Research Department for 17 years, from 2006-2023. He loved his work and his colleagues and the many legislators he diligently served in the Topeka Capitol Building. He loved serving the State of Kansas as he liaised with various state agencies in his work.

Having been first diagnosed with cancer as a 6-year-old boy, and having suffered three different cancers throughout his life, Aaron saw all suffering as intended by God to strengthen the Lord’s call upon his life.&nbsp; Aaron loved the Christian writer C.S. Lewis, and often reminded his family that suffering “is God’s megaphone to rouse a deaf world.” &nbsp;Aaron expressed complete confidence that he could rest in the goodness of God, and would quote Psalm 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God.” &nbsp;He faithfully worshiped His savior Jesus Christ, even in the years and months he was unable to leave his home. A fighter in his battle with cancer, Aaron also knew that, in God’s ordained time, Jesus would bring him to his eternal home. Aaron’s father, David, always said, “He is one of the bravest men I ever knew.”

Aaron is survived by his parents, David and Margaret Klaassen, and his 12 brothers and sisters and their spouses and children, Justin and Jessica Klaassen and their children Elizabeth, Julia, and Theodore; Heather and Philip McCollum and their children Ciara, Lewis, Ronan, Liam, Natalia, and Aiden; Jill and Gary Gunn and their children Joseph, Jeremiah, Daniel, and Ross; Hillary and Naval Daver and their children Zachary, Joshua, and Katrina; Leslie and Jeremiah Shafer; Michael Klaassen; Samuel and Sydney Klaassen and their children Eloise and Friedrich; Meghan Klaassen; Laura Klaassen; Mark Klaassen; Stephen and Meredith Klaassen; and Katie and Matt Plummer and their children Branch and Augustus.

Aaron was preceded in death by his younger brother, Nathaniel Paul Klaassen, and his grandparents, Raymond and Elloise Klaassen and Henry and Ruth Tims.Aaron loved his many nieces and nephews.&nbsp; He often displayed the newest extended family member on the background of his phone. A man of generosity and faith, Aaron was quick to find ways to help others and devoted himself to prayer for his family and friends. Aaron will be deeply missed.

A visitation will be held at Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home in Salina, KS, on Thursday, July 10th from 6:00-8:00 pm. Please join us.

A funeral service is scheduled for Friday, July 11th at 11:00 am at Elim Lutheran Church in Marquette, Kansas. Burial will be at the Marquette Cemetery immediately after the service. All are welcome.

Aaron John Klaassen

Diana Marie Pierson, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and dedicatededucator, passed away peacefully after a life filled with love, laughter, and service. She was born on September 19, 1953, in Salina, Kansas, to Iona and James Wiseman.

Diana spent her early years in Salina, attending Glennifer Hill Elementary and First Baptist Church. Her family later moved to McPherson, Kansas, where she became a member of First Baptist McPherson and graduated with honors from McPherson High School in 1971. During high school, Diana embarked on a meaningful missionary trip to a Navajo reservation in Arizona, an experience that likely shaped her compassionate spirit.

She pursued higher education, attending Emporia State University and Kansas Wesleyan University. Diana graduated with honors from Emporia in May 1975, earning an elementary education teaching certificate with a concentration in art. She completed her student teaching at Glennifer Hill in Salina, coming full circle to her childhood school.

In the fall of 1971, Diana met the love of her life, Dale Pierson, at aschool mixer in Emporia. Their connection was immediate, leading to a beautiful marriage of over 52 years. They were united in marriage on May 20, 1973, at First Baptist Church in McPherson. Dale had "ma vie, mon amour" (French for "my life, my love") inscribed in her wedding band, a testament to their deep bond. Their relationship, like any long marriage, had its unique moments, from a memorable wardrobe malfunction at a John Denver concert to a shared commitment to calm communication that fostered a lifetime of harmony.

Diana began her professional journey as a second-grade teacher at Solomon Grade School from 1975 to 1981. Her time there was marked by humorous anecdotes, like mistaking cattle for bears, leading to a much-needed eye exam. From 1973 to 1978, while Dale taught at St. John’s Military School, Diana embraced the role of a "substitute mom," baking cakes and cookies for dozens of teenage boys.

Though unable to have biological children after a tubular pregnancy in 1980, Diana's heart was always open to motherhood. She and Dale became foster parents to Harlan and Jimmy and joyfully adopted their daughter, Jamie, from the Oklahoma City Deaconess Home in June 1981. Diana cherished her time as a stay-at-home mom from 1981 to 1983, lovingly making dresses for Jamie and dedicating herself to church activities.

She volunteered extensively, assisting with the 2–3-year-olds in Sunday School, participating in ABW, and leading Evening Senior High Youth with Dale. Her dedication extended to the church choir and learning stained glass. Diana modeled her homemaking after her mother, creating a spotless and welcoming home, always ready for guests. She was also a talented baker, known for her delicious pies, cookies, and lasagna.

From 1983 to 2008, Diana continued her passion for education, teaching second grade at Sunset School in Salina. She then transitioned to a speech pathologist paraprofessional role from 2008 until her retirement in 2018.

On July 7, 1989, Marcus was welcomed into the family through private adoption. As he grew, Marcus was a loving and supportive presence in Diana’s life, offering significant care and assistance, especially during her times of need.

Diana loved to travel, creating cherished memories on family vacations. Her adventures took her to the majestic landscapes of Colorado (Red Feather Lake, Black Forest, Royal Gorge, Pike’s Peak, Durango, Pagosa Springs, Mead, Steamboat Springs, Denver Zoo), the grandeur of Wyoming (Jackson Hole, Yellowstone, Cody), Idaho (Henry’s Lake), Montana (Earthquake Lake), and South Dakota (Devil’s Tower, Mount Rushmore, Deadwood, Rapid City, Mitchell Corn Palace). She also explored Texas (Dallas, San Antonio), Kentucky (Lexington Horse Park), Ohio (Cincinnati), Missouri (Kansas City, Springfield, St. Louis), Washington D.C., Florida, California, and Arizona. Her absolute favorite destination was the Big Island of Hawaii.

Diana is survived by her loving husband, Dale Pierson; her daughter, Jamie Pierson; her son, Marcus Pierson; and her sisters, Pat Seger (late Dennis) of Houston, and Linda Witten (late Carl) of Emporia. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will miss her dearly.

With blessed assurance, Diana has "knocked on heaven’s door" and been welcomed home. Her legacy of kindness, dedication, and love will forever live in the hearts of those she touched.

A casual, come as you are to praise God, celebration of Diana’s well spent life service will be held at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at the Salina First Baptist Church with Pastor Kevin Hazelton officiating.&nbsp; This will be followed with a pot luck lunch/meal at 1:00 PM.&nbsp; For those traveling from afar, please know you are not expected to bring a side dish for the meal.

Diana Marie Pierson

Pauline J. Collins, age 76, entered into rest on Saturday, June 28, 2025, in Kanab, Utah. She was born in Miltonvale, Kansas on July 16, 1948, to Dennie and Della (Demanett) Forton.

On March 1, 1974, she married Donald D. Collins in Concordia, Kansas. He preceded her in death on January 23, 2021.

Pauline worked for 25 plus years at Mount Joseph Nursing Home in Concordia as the Business Manager. She was a was also co-owner of multiple rental homes along with her husband Don in the Concordia community and they were landlords for most all their lives.

Pauline loved people! She was always willing to help anyone in need. Family was most important to her, especially spending time with her daughter, Jessica, and granddaughter, Vida. Pauline and Don took great joy in hosting the family Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations.&nbsp;&nbsp;Pauline also loved her yearly rode trips traveling throughout the U.S. with Jessica and Vida.&nbsp;&nbsp;Her hobbies included crocheting and playing cards.

Pauline is survived by her beloved Daughter, Jessica Collins and her daughter, Vida Romero, both of Lawrence, KS; brother, Leroy Fortin, sisters-in-law, Phyllis Ostrom (Larry), Diane Sothers (Rodney),and Ronda Gumm (Jeff) all of Concordia, KS; also a sister-in-law Karen Collins, Benton, KS; numerous nieces and nephews.

Pauline was preceded in death by her husband Don, her parents, Dennie and Della, and a sister, Anna Henderson.

Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date and time to be announced.

Burial of the cremains will then follow at the Saron Baptist Cemetery, rural Jamestown, Kansas.

Angelique was born on March 10, 1961, in Oil City, Pennsylvania. She grew up with a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life—good food, great conversations, and the comfort of home.

Angelique retired after 35 years of dedicated work at Salina Regional Health Center, where she served as a Production Lead in the food service department. She took pride in her work and the community she served. Though her well-earned retirement was sadly cut short by illness, Angelique still managed to face each day with grace, often saying with a touch of humor, “This is not how I wanted to spend my retirement.”

Angelique loved life, chicken, and chocolate—and she meant that quite literally. She often joked that when she died, she would want her ashes mixed into a giant vat of Hershey’s chocolate. She had a passion for reading romance novels, catching up on her soap operas, and enjoying girls’ nights out with her close friends. She adored animals, especially her two beloved dogs, Boba and Onyx, and she spent countless hours watching the birds at the bird feeder out the front window of her home.

Angelique is survived by her husband, Jerald “Rob” Barnett; her children, Heather Barnett, Mariah (Myranda) Barnett, and Adam Barnett; and her cherished grandchildren, Kaitlyn Martin and Thatcher Barnett. She is also survived by her mother, Lorraine Vanek; her sister, Monique Keith; and her in-laws, Michael Keith, Ron Kramer, Jane Kramer, and Pamela Lewis.

She was preceded in death by her father, Edward S. Vanek, and her in-laws, Peggy and Melvin Waldroup.

Angelique’s family will forever miss her fierce loyalty, sharp wit, and the quiet but powerful love she gave so freely. She asked for a sorrowful funeral—one that honors her life with honesty and heart—and her family will lovingly carry out that wish. Her spirit will live on in every shared memory, every inside joke, and every chocolate bar enjoyed in her honor.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, July 8th at 10:30 am at Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home.

Gloria Elaine (Chaffin) Makey passed away in Smith Center, Kansas, on Monday, June 30, 2025, in her home surrounded by love and family. She was born in Julesburg, CO, to Dwight Fredrick and Maxine Lorraine (Elliott) Chaffin, the youngest of four children.

Gloria graduated from Holyoke High School in Colorado and was later married. Two daughters, Roxanne and Melanie, were born to this union. Later, Gloria pursued a career in nursing at Nebraska Western College in Scottsbluff, NE, where she became a Registered Nurse. Her career in healthcare was both broad and meaningful serving as a nurse, Director of Nursing, and Clinical Research Coordinator. She held various other roles throughout her life, each a testament to her versatility. Gloria was known for her strong work ethic and willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

A woman of many talents, Gloria found joy in gardening, canning, crafting, crocheting, baking, reading, making cards, coloring, and painting. Music was a key part of her life. Gloria played the piano and French horn, directed choirs, and participated in other musical activities within the church and community. She poured her heart into everything she did, most of all into her family. Whether cheering at a sports event, attending a school play or program, helping with a fair project, or supporting her grandchildren’s creative and educational projects, Gloria was a constant, loving presence to her grandchildren.

Her deepest hope was for her family to know and follow Jesus and for her grandkids to have a special memory to remember her by. Such treasures will include her cream puffs at special events, quilts at graduations, special birthday cards, Christmas scavenger hunts, birdhouse gourds for class, and hand-painted pictures.

In her later years, Gloria was surrounded by neighbors who became dear friends. She loved playing cards and bingo, doing puzzles, gardening, and chatting with those in her Gothenburg and Smith Center communities.

She is survived by her sister, Sharon Macklin of Smith Center, KS; a sister-in-law, Pat (Chaffin) Supak of Bryan, TX; two daughters, Roxanne Converse-Whiting (Memory) of Gothenburg, NE, and Melanie (Marion) Schlatter of Lebanon, KS; nine grandchildren, Kim (Alex) Jorgenson of Gothenburg, NE, AJ (Dallin) Whiting of Stillwater, OK, Tyler Whiting of Phoenix, AZ, Abigail Schlatter, Nathan “Leonard” Schlatter, Jonny Schlatter, Ethan Schlatter, Zach Schlatter, and Asher Schlatter, all of Smith Center, KS; three great-grandchildren, Bowe and Baker Jorgenson of Gothenburg, NE, and Ledger Whiting of Stillwater, OK.

She is also survived by a son-in-law, Jeff Whiting of Gothenburg, NE; her niece Sharolyn Valdez of Weldona, CO; her nephews, Harvey (Kim) Macklin of Mountain City, TN, and Chris (Amber) Chaffin of Aurora, CO; and other family members including great nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Dwight and Maxine Chaffin; her brothers, Ronald “Ronnie” Chaffin and Dwight “Mickey” Chaffin; her granddaughter, Sarah Schlatter; and several beloved pets.

She will be deeply missed by all who loved her, and she leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and family.

Larry Remmenga, 77, Minneapolis, died Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at his home with his wife and girls at his side. Larry was born July 29, 1947, at home in Green Lake, WI, to George and Anna Theresa (Lampman) Remmenga.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 

After high school graduation, Larry served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War in Thailand from 1966-1970. It was there he contacted Agent Orange which led to his death.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Larry owned and operated Remmenga Oil Company in Elwood, NE. He was also the Utility Superintendent for the Village of Elwood. He moved to Concordia to be Director of Utilities.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 

Larry married Karen Lerdall on March 20, 1971, in Elwood. They had two daughters, Teresa and Mindi. On April 4, 2009, Larry married Betty (Orr) Essman of Topeka. They were married on the balcony of his hunting cabin in Concordia.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Larry was an avid hunter and harvested many trophy white tailed deer, turkeys, elk, and bear. He was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and Nebraska Huskers. He was also a Kansas City Chiefs and Royals fan. Larry loved to travel and went on many vacations when his girls were younger. After he and Betty were married, they bought a 5th wheel, traveled to many states, and met very good friends along the way.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Pat, Roberta, and Mickey; brothers, Ralph, Gary, and infant brother, Clarence.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Survivors are his wife, Betty; daughters, Teresa and husband, Jeff Moore and their children, Maddie and Jaren Moore, and Mindi Young and her children, Noah, Aidan, and Collin. Also surviving are Betty’s children, Tony Essman and wife, Beth and Amy and her husband, R.D. Helt; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Janet; and brothers, Harold and wife, Cathy, and Mike and wife, Starla.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, July 5, at the Bennington Bible Church, 824 N. Nelson St., Bennington, KS 67422. Graveside services with military honors will be Saturday, July 12, 2025, at the Elwood City Cemetery, Elwood.

At 4:17 a.m. on June 30, 2025, as the skies split with lightning and thunder, Robert Lee Brant took his final breath on the very farm where his life began as the rain he hoped for over the years for good crops, fell from the skies blessing the land.

He left this world in the same place he shaped with tireless hands, quiet strength, and a heart that loved deeply and gave freely.

Born on a February day in 1939, Robert was a true son of the land. From an early age, he embraced the rhythm of farming and ranching, cultivating not just crops and cattle, but a legacy of perseverance and integrity. With his wife Lola and son Shanon, he co-founded Blue Hill Feeders, Inc., a family-run operation that became both a business and a beacon of what grit and vision can build. He later shared countless hours and years working side by side with his grandson Timber, passing down not only knowledge, but a reverence for the land and a pride in honest work. Robert resonated with Timber’s positive energy and hard work ethic, proud to have him assisting with keeping his vision of the Blue Hill Feeders and farming operation thriving.

On November 2, 1958, Robert married the love of his life, Lola Marie. Together, they raised two children—Angela and Shanon—instilling in them the same values that guided Robert’s life: loyalty, humility, and an unshakable work ethic. His special bond with his daughter Angela and granddaughter Alia was a cornerstone in his later years, as they stood with him to keep the feedlot alive and thriving. He would always brag with a big “Bobby Brant” smile of “his girls”-truly held such special places in his heart.

Robert’s presence was larger than life in his rural Kansas community. He was known not just as a rancher and farmer, but as a neighbor, a mentor, and a man always ready with a laugh or a helping hand. He was the kind of man you could count on—one with a backbone of steel and a heart of gold-balls enough to take on anything, yet sensitive to be there in time of need. Always generous with his energy and love for mankind.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Lola Brant of Lucas, Kansas; daughter Angela Naegele, granddaughter Alia Larson (Paul) and their children—Rio, Cassody, Nash, and Otto, all of Lucas, Kansas; grandson Timber Naegele (Megan) and their children—Turner and Tripp, of Spring Branch, Texas. His son Shanon Brant and husband Ian reside in Consejo Shores, Corozal, Belize. Shanon’s children, Haile Brant of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Cole Brant of St. George, Utah, carry on his name and legacy.

Robert was, and will remain, an icon—not for fame, but for the quiet, steady way he lifted others and held the world together around him. His memory will live on in every sunset over the fields he loved, in every laugh shared around a kitchen table, and in the hearts of those lucky enough to call him family and friend.

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of our beautiful mother, Shirley Ann Treas, who left us on June 27, 2025 at the age of 85.

Born on October 6, 1939 in Great Bend, Kansas, Shirley lived a life defined by love, kindness, and unwavering strength. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend—a guiding light to all who knew her. Her heart was always open to those in need, always ready with a comforting word, a warm embrace, or a quiet act of selflessness.&nbsp; She raised her family with tenderness, grace, and courage. She taught us the value of compassion, honesty, and the beauty in everyday moments. Her home was a place of warmth, love, and laughter for family and friends. Shirley was a talented hair stylist running her own salon for over 60 years. She treated everyone like family.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald (Bud) Treas on October 8, 2017, her mother, Marian Ruth Clawson Dick on April 6, 2005, her brother, Arthur B. Dick on April 15, 2018, and her step grandson, Evan Treas on August 13,1993.

She is survived by her children, John Kevin Schremmer, Pamela Clubine (Robert), and Sheri Hicks; her grandchildren, David Lloyd George III, (Nicole), Shelby Coulter, (Bennan), Katelyn Hall, (Alex), and Joseph Hicks; her great grandchildren, Grayson Little, Isla Coulter, Lily Coulter, River George, Luca Hall, Kelso George, and Ellis Coulter; her brother, Clay Sherman; and her stepchildren, Terri Treas, Robert Treas, Michael Treas, Randy Treas; her step grandchildren, Spencer Treas, Megan Treas Clary, Miranda Rose Treas, Nathan Treas, Bridget Treas, Andrew Treas, Jack Treas, and Jessamyn Zand.&nbsp; We will all carry her memory in our hearts and strive to honor her legacy. Though she may be gone from our sight, her spirit lives on in the lessons she taught, the stories she told, and the love she gave so freely.

Shirley Ann Treas

Nancy Jane Keim was born in Huntington, Indiana, on July 31, 1935, the second of four daughters of Howard H. and Winifred (O’Connor) Keim. Howard was a pastor in the Church of the Brethren and moved from congregation to congregation, so Nancy grew up all over Indiana, Iowa, and Illinois. Her father was a man of strong opinions, and in this Nancy (and all her sisters) took after him.

After graduating from high school in Indiana, Nancy attended McPherson College, where her parents had met, and formed lifelong connections of her own there. Foremost among them was Leland Lengel, a tall, droll history major from Colorado, who became the love of Nancy’s life and whom she married on May 31, 1957, shortly after she graduated with a bachelor of science degree. They spent their first year of married life in Elgin, Illinois, where Lee did his Brethren Volunteer Service while Nancy taught math to seventh graders. She told her young charges that if she ever had children, she would drown them when they reached the age of 12.

When Leland started graduate school at Duke University, the couple moved to Durham, North Carolina, where Nancy discovered that living in a house trailer was not her favorite thing. She worked for a doctor at the Duke Medical School, who had the habit of noting that “people are no damned good,” a slogan which soon became something of a Lengel family motto. In 1960 Nancy and Leland welcomed their first child, Douglas Alan, and then the family drove across the United States so that Lee could begin doctoral studies at the University of Oregon. In 1961 their second child, Carolyn Jean, was born. The Lengels discovered the truth of the saying “In Oregon you don’t tan — you rust,” while living in Eugene until Lee was offered a history position at McPherson College in 1963.

Nancy and Lee remained in McPherson for the rest of their days. Once the kids had gotten old enough to need less of her attention (and somehow — sometimes barely — remained un-drowned), Nancy took a job as a travel agent and enjoyed the opportunity to travel for work, visiting far-flung places including China, Australia, and the Soviet Union.&nbsp;&nbsp;Nancy’s love of international travel led to compromises with Leland’s love of slow trips on U.S. highways, and she and Leland continued to travel, together and separately, for the rest of their time together. Nancy later took a position in the registrar’s office at McPherson College, devoting more years of service to the institution that had been so important in her life. She remained there until she retired. She worked tirelessly through the years for Democratic political candidates and progressive causes and also enjoyed volunteering at the McPherson Opera House and hospital.

Lee died suddenly in 1998, and Nancy never ceased to miss him. She filled the void with a series of opinionated cats (Eliza, Puddin, and Sheena) and with trips to see Doug and his wife Wylene and Carolyn and her husband Mike and their daughter Harriet, Nancy’s much-loved granddaughter, born in 1999. She also went on travel adventures with her sisters Rowan Daggett, Lois Keim, and Julia King-Smith.

The polycystic kidney disease (PKD) that has been the bane of Nancy’s family slowed her down considerably in the last few years. She died peacefully on June 27, 2025, after refusing dialysis and other additional treatments for PKD.&nbsp;

She leaves behind her son and daughter-in-law Doug and Wylene (Gaeddert) Lengel, her daughter and son-in-law Carolyn Lengel and Mike Enright, her granddaughter Harriet Lee Lengel Enright, her sister Lois Keim and partner Beverly Gillia, and nephews John Daggett, Brad King, and Dan Daggett and their families.

A celebration of Nancy's life (come &amp; go) will be held on Sunday, July 6, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the Cedars Event Center, 1019 Cedars Drive, McPherson.

Nancy Jane Keim

Douglas Neil Holloway, 89, of Salina, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 30, 2025.

Douglas was born in Alton, Kansas, on March 10, 1936, to Cristena Weber and Donald Holloway. A lifelong learner and educator, Douglas graduated from college and began his career as a teacher and coach, sharing his love of sports with generations of students. A former college basketball player himself, he found great joy in mentoring young athletes and watching them grow both on and off the court.

Later in life, Douglas served as a postmaster, a role he embraced with dedication and pride. He loved delivering mail in all seasons—rain or shine—and took great satisfaction in serving his community.

In June of 1958, Douglas married the love of his life, Janet Darnell Holloway. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared passions—including many cherished days spent golfing side by side. Janet and Doug also took many bus tours, traveling all over and enjoying each other's company.

Douglas is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Janet; and their four sons: Tobin Holloway (Renate), Jere Holloway, Sam Holloway (Rena), and Dave Holloway (Jacque). He also leaves behind a legacy of love in his grandchildren—Madeline, Elliot, Samuel, Megan, Jalen, Emilee, Teryn, Jacob, Alyson, and Trey—and great-grandchildren—Sebastian, Liam, Logan, Junior, and Alcee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his siblings, Billy Don Holloway, Bonnie Noel, and Suzie Walters.

A memorial service will be held at&nbsp;Trinity United Methodist Church in Salina, Kansas&nbsp;at 11:00 AM Monday, July 7, 2025.

Mark was born in Sweet Home, Oregon, on June 4, 1961. He later moved to Salina, Kansas, with his family, where he graduated from Salina Central High School in 1979 and attended Salina Vo-Tech.

Mark had a love for adventure and a free spirit that never faded. Mischievous at times, he carried a contagious smile, a generous heart, and an unwavering love for God, his family, animals, nature, and the Colorado mountains. His last adventure took him to the Smoky Hill River Festival, where he enjoyed music and arts—two things he truly appreciated.

Throughout his life, Mark worked in various roles including retail, landscaping, and sales. He also owned and operated his own floor-cleaning business. Mark was known for lending a hand to anyone in need and making friends with ease.

Survivors include his sister and brother-in-law Cindy and Tim Buyse, of Salina, Kansas; sister and brother-in-law Julie and David Whitted, of Salina, Kansas; brother and sister-in-law Tim and Denise MacDowell, of Salina, Kansas; and brother David MacDowell, of Bastrop, Texas. As well as many cherished nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, JoAnne Lovejoy MacDowell and Robert MacDowell.

Olivia Deane Allison, age 13, entered the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina.

Born on September 13, 2011, along with her identical twin sister, Elizabeth Deane, in Wichita, Kansas, Olivia and Elizabeth were the beloved daughters of Joshua Deane and SueVaun Michelle (Koehn) Allison. From the very beginning, Olivia's joyful spirit and radiant smile brought light and laughter to everyone blessed to know her.

Olivia delighted in life’s simple pleasures—family time, golf cart rides, swimming, and trips to the beach (especially when the water was warm). She loved being outdoors, whether swinging, biking, or just soaking in the sunshine. A connoisseur of cheerful commotion, Olivia especially relished the playful chaos of school life, often responding to it with contagious giggles.

Her presence was magnetic—her laughter irresistible. She found joy in the everyday: being picked up by her brother Brodie, having her hair brushed by her sister Lilly, bath time routines, and the comforting whirr of a hairdryer. Olivia thrived in the company of her classmates and cherished being surrounded by people. With an innate gift for drawing others in, she had a way of making anyone she met feel instantly welcomed and loved.

She is deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her father, Josh Allison, and her siblings Wyatt, Bodie, and Lillian, all of Mount Pleasant, SC; her grandparents, Denny and Helen Allison of McPherson, KS, and Keith and Jeanette Koehn of Fruitland, ID; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and all who were fortunate to share in her beautiful life.

She was preceded in death by her mother, SueVaun Allison; identical twin, Elizabeth Deane Allison; and great-grandparents, Dale &amp; Dorothy Koehn and Eugene &amp; Salome Unruh.

Jerry L. Spears, 84, Bennington, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2025, in Minneapolis. He was born June 8, 1941, in Milton, to James F. and Marjorie O. (Dillon) Spears.

          Following graduation from Protection High School, Jerry graduated from Kansas Wesleyan University, and he graduated from Kansas State University with a master’s degree in education. He and Connie Misenhelter were married on June 21, 1964. Jerry was an elementary education teacher, and he served as principal at the Special Education Center in Salina. He was instrumental in his community by serving on the Bennington E.M.S., Cub Scout leader, and a longtime member of the United Church of Bennington.

          Jerry was an avid fisherman and woodworker, but his true love was his family. He could be found making funnel cakes at the Bennington rodeo, anonymously picking up the bill at the Cozy Inn for a customer, and working and supporting the Bennington community garden. He lived by the philosophy to never pass up a child's lemonade stand or local fundraiser.

          He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Connie on June 2, 2016; and siblings, Johnnie Spears and Juanda Arent.

          Survivors are his son Jamie Spears and his wife, Shelly of Celina, TX and Jolea Twaddell and her husband, Marty of Bailey, CO; and six grandchildren Skylar, Kaden, and Kace Spears and Ian, Gabriel, and Piper Twaddell.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. to 5:30 P.M., Tuesday, July 1, at Wilson Family Funeral Home, 405 Argle Ave., Minneapolis, KS 67467. Florene Jackline Steinle, 89, of Salina, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 27, 2025.

Born on March 9, 1936, in rural Lucas, Kansas, Florene was the daughter of Charles August Casper and Luella Fae (Beatty) Casper.

Florene dedicated her early years to work as a telephone operator and later embraced her role as a homemaker, nurturing both her family and home with unwavering care and quiet determination.

On October 24, 1954, Florene married the love of her life, Edward Leroy Steinle. Together they built a life rooted in love, devotion, and family—a partnership that spanned over 70 years.

Florene is survived by her three sons: Edward Steinle Jr. (Judy) of Salina, Kansas; David Steinle (Roxanne) of Montana; and Troy Steinle of Derby, Kansas. She is also survived by her sister, Bertha Hilmer (Ray) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; her grandchildren, Jacob Steinle, Samuel Steinle, Josh Steinle, and Barbara German; and her great-grandchild, Aiden Steinle.She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Edward, who passed just days earlier on June 18, 2025; and eight siblings.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, July 1, at Bavaria Cemetery in Bavaria, Kansas. Pastor Jim Winterstein will officiate.

Florene Jackline Steinle

Burl LeRoy Tompkins 86, passed away on Wednesday June 11, 2025, at Parkview Care Center, Osborne, KS.

Burl was born on May 28, 1939, in Smith Center, KS to Orville and Margarite (Duer) Tompkins. Burl graduated from Portis High School in the class of 1959. When he was in school he worked for local farmers, while also serving in the Kansas National Guard. Burl worked several different jobs throughout his life. He was a construction worker, mechanic, and a truck driver. On August 8, 1966, Burl married Cheryl Thompson, in this union they were blessed with two daughters Ami and Jonna. On May 29, 1981, Burl married Judith Brummer, to this union Judy brought three daughters Jodi, Mary Ann, and Kristi.

Burl was very handy and could repair almost anything that was broken; He was very active in the church. He was a head usher and no matter what the weather was like Burl made sure the church was open and ready for services, activities, or whatever was going on at the church. Burl enjoyed watching KU basketball, doing word search and hidden object puzzles. He also loved watching the birds and squirrels play, and took great joy playing dominoes with the residents at Parkview Care Center.

Burl is preceded in death by his parents, sister Rose Sears, and brother Alvin Tompkins.

Burl is survived by his wife Judith Tompkins of Osborne, 5 daughters Ami (Doug) McMurdo of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jonna Gilliam, Santa Fe, Texas, Jodi Holmes, Russell, Kansas, Mary Ann Graham, Lawrence, Kansas, Kristi (L.A.) Scott, San Bernardino, California, two sisters Vonda Tompkins, Osborne, Kansas Ethel (Derald) Sears, Smith Center, Kansas, and one brother Edward (Fontella) Tompkins, Osborne, Kansas. Burl was blessed to have 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Sister Marilyn Stahl died June 26, 2025 at Nazareth Motherhouse in Concordia, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was 84 years old and a Sister of St. Joseph for 65 years.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was born in Plainville, KS on February 10, 1941 to Bernard and Grace Bisset Stahl, the second of nine children, and was baptized Marilyn.&nbsp;&nbsp;She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia, Kansas on February 2, 1959.&nbsp;&nbsp;On August 15, 1959, Marilyn received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister Joseph Raphael, later returning to her baptismal name.&nbsp;&nbsp;She pronounced first vows on August 15, 1960 and final vows on August 15, 1963.

Sister Marilyn received her BA in history from Marymount College in 1967 followed by a MA in history from Indiana University in 1969.&nbsp;&nbsp;Marilyn taught history at Marymount College until 1982.&nbsp;&nbsp;From there she moved to Washington, DC and then to New York to follow her passion for social justice and to live with the Sisters of the Presentation.&nbsp;&nbsp;In 2004 she returned to Wichita, KS where she worked for the Diocese of Wichita and did volunteer work.&nbsp;&nbsp;In 2017 Sister Marilyn retired to the Motherhouse in Concordia, KS

Sister Marilyn Stahl 

Mabel Lillian Masten, 103, peacefully passed away on June 21, 2025. She was born on December 2, 1921, on the family homestead in Dillon, Kansas to Christian and Ernestine (Pjesky) Pschigoda. She grew into adulthood during the Great Depression and was very proud to be the first in her family to graduate from Hope High School in 1941. On November 28, 1942 in Fort Riley, Kansas, with the country at war, she was united in marriage to Gaius P. Masten. Mabel supported homefront war efforts by working in a large bakery in Michigan during his Philippines Tour.

Following the war, Mabel learned to professionally decorate cakes at the Wilton School in Omaha, Nebraska. Together, Gauis and Mabel owned and operated Saundra’s Bakery from 1949-1977 and made their home in Herington, Kansas. She took great pride in all the cakes she decorated and is remembered by many as the person who decorated a cake for their special life events. Mabel considered two cakes especially challenging - A Rock Island Anniversary Cake made to serve 1400 people and a cake made to replicate the First National Bank Building in Herington. Mabel made and decorated her last wedding cake for the marriage of her granddaughter in 2004, at the age of 83.

When the bakery closed, Mabel remained active as a homemaker and loved taking care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Herington for many years, and served as Sunday School teacher and Youth Leader. Her home always had an open door and she thoroughly enjoyed visits from family and friends. Mabel loved gifts of chocolate, word search books, puzzles, and always enjoyed being treated to Pizza Hut.

Mabel believed in the power of prayer and God’s promise in Hebrews 13:5: “I will never leave thee nor forsake thee” and loved the song “Because He Lives, I Can Face Tomorrow”. Mabel had a kind and compassionate spirit and blessed others with her positive outlook on life. At the age of 99, Mabel moved to Marion Assisted Living and often told those caring for her “I love you so much, you are so kind, you are so beautiful, you are so special.” She rarely focused on negativity and throughout the storms of life taught us to cling tightly to our faith.

Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings: Carl, Reynold, Walter, Harold, Edwin, Emma, Martha, Esther, and Anna. She is survived by daughters, Saundra (Ed) Hartl of Calhan, CO and Terry (Larry) Ryff of Hope, KS; her grandchildren, Brandon Ryff of Kansas City, KS, and Kimberly (Kelvin) Kroupa of Marion, KS; her great-grandchildren Karsen Kroupa and Kole Kroupa, and many nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be held on Friday June 27, 2025 from 9-10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Herington. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the church following visitation. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church, Herington, Kansas.

Mabel Lillian Masten

Abagail Eklund, Age 25, passed away on June 17, 2025, in Salina, Kansas.

Abagail, also known as Abby, went to Southeast of Saline for her high school career and then went on to attend Fort Hays State University.

From the moment she could walk, Abagail was known for her strong will, bright spirit, and pure care for those around her. She radiated joy, love, grace, and unwavering faith, not only with her family and friends but also with those she had only just met. People often said she had a special gift for making others feel seen, heard, and instantly at ease, as if they had been friends for years. Her laughter told stories of its own, warm and comforting, like a hug that felt like coming home.

Abby had a nomadic soul and an adventurous heart, always ready to seize any opportunity to travel and experience life to the fullest. She never turned down a trip to the beach. She loved soaking up the sun, spending time with her family, and getting her well-earned tan. She was also fond of dressing up and sharing laughter while having a fun time with her friends and family. Many would say her spirit was in sync with the sun itself, as her smile had a way of lighting up any room she entered.

She found joy in the little things: listening to her favorite music, immersing herself in a good book, and attending live concerts whenever possible. But what mattered most to her was showing up for the people she loved. Whether it was a family gathering or cheering on her little sister Lilly at softball games, Abby always made time for those who meant the most to her.

Above all, her faith was at the center of everything she did. Though free-spirited and full of life, Abby remained grounded in her belief that God was greater than any challenge she&nbsp;faced.

God shaped Abby into a beautiful woman, someone who was kind, radiant, faithful, and deeply loving. She was a role model for her siblings, a light to her family, and a blessing to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Abby is survived by her father, Chad Eklund (Tracy), and her mother, Amber Banks (Scott); her siblings, Seth Eklund, Bryce Banks, Bryant Banks, Brooke Banks, Lilly Banks, Chelsea Sharma (Eshan), Riley Anderson, and Zayden Anderson. She is also survived by her aunts and uncles: Brandy Gillespie, Kelly Cole (Jeff), Jennifer Anderson (Josh), Melissa Holcom (Chasen), Jake Deatherage (Nicole), and Darrin Deatherage; and her grandparents, John

Eklund (Jeanette), Debbie Hayden, Glenda Eidet, Don Deatherage, Connie Johnson, and Tim Banks, and numerous cousins and friends.

A public viewing will take place from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Roselawn Burial and Cremation (1920 E. Crawford St., Salina, KS 67401) on Friday, June 27. On Saturday, June 28, at 11:00 AM, the funeral service will be held at The Ark Church (2020 S. Ohio St., Salina, KS 67401), followed by a celebration of life at The Venue (638 Francis St., Salina, KS 67401).

People often said she had a special gift for making others feel seen, heard, and instantly at ease, as if they had been friends for years. Her laughter told stories of its own, warm and comforting, like a hug that felt like coming home.Abby had a nomadic soul and an adventurous heart, always ready to seize any opportunity to travel and experience life to the fullest. She never turned down a trip to the beach. She loved soaking up the sun, spending time with her family, and getting her well-earned tan. She was also fond of dressing up and sharing laughter while having a fun time with her friends and family. Many would say her spirit was in sync with the sun itself, as her smile had a way of lighting up any room she entered.She found joy in the little things: listening to her favorite music, immersing herself in a good book, and attending live concerts whenever possible. But what mattered most to her was showing up for the people she loved. Whether it was a family gathering or cheering on her little sister Lilly at softball games, Abby always made time for those who meant the most to her.Above all, her faith was at the center of everything she did. Though free-spirited and full of life, Abby remained grounded in her belief that God was greater than any challenge she&nbsp;faced.God shaped Abby into a beautiful woman, someone who was kind, radiant, faithful, and deeply loving. She was a role model for her siblings, a light to her family, and a blessing to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.Abby is survived by her father, Chad Eklund (Tracy), and her mother, Amber Banks (Scott); her siblings, Seth Eklund, Bryce Banks, Bryant Banks, Brooke Banks, Lilly Banks, Chelsea Sharma (Eshan), Riley Anderson, and Zayden Anderson. She is also survived by her aunts and uncles: Brandy Gillespie, Kelly Cole (Jeff), Jennifer Anderson (Josh), Melissa Holcom (Chasen), Jake Deatherage (Nicole), and Darrin Deatherage; and her grandparents, JohnEklund (Jeanette), Debbie Hayden, Glenda Eidet, Don Deatherage, Connie Johnson, and Tim Banks, and numerous cousins and friends.A public viewing will take place from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Roselawn Burial and Cremation (1920 E. Crawford St., Salina, KS 67401) on Friday, June 27. On Saturday, June 28, at 11:00 AM, the funeral service will be held at The Ark Church (2020 S. Ohio St., Salina, KS 67401), followed by a celebration of life at The Venue (638 Francis St., Salina, KS 67401).The family is thankful for the incredible outpouring of love they’ve received during this difficult time.
