Dixie May Lanning, 92, of Salina, died Friday, October 2, 2024, at Brookdale Assisted Living in Salina. Mrs. Lanning was born January 15, 1932, in Salina to Manford Hamilton and Susanita H. (Smith) Bartley. 

Dixie grew up in Salina and attended Kansas Wesleyan University. Upon graduation, she enlisted as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy and was serving in Corpus Christi, Texas where she met her future husband of 55 years, Donald. who was also from Salina. Upon returning to Salina. she taught school at Roosevelt-Lincoln Junior High School. While teaching she received her master's degree from Emporia State University in Library Science. Dixie spent the next 30 years working as the librarian for Bethany College. During her time at Bethany, she earned her PhD (ABD) in Library Science at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Dixie held the title Professor Emerita of Library Science until her death at Bethany College. 

Dixie was a prolific reader and always had a book or two in her purse. She was a collector of antiques and any historical item from Salina. Dixie had a great love for her family and her family’s roots in Salina. She was the great-great-granddaughter of Charles and Susan Haskit, early homesteaders in Saline County and one of the original six families on the town charter of Salina. Haskit (now spelled Haskett) and Smith Streets in the Hageman Addition are named for members of her family. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Rotary Club. 

Dixie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald Ray, sister Mary Sue Harris, and daughter Diana Marie Shaft. She is survived by her son David John (Carolyn) of Salina, son-in-law Gerald Duane Shaft of Salina, five grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Ingalsbe (Kalen Curtis), Madison Regan and Wyatt Donald Lanning, and Travis Jeffery (Kathryn Brooks) and Trenton James (Erin Maili) Shaft, and eight great-grandchildren. 

A private memorial service will be planned for a later date. Please make memorials to either the Kansas Wesleyan University Memorial Library or the Bethany College Wallerstedt Library.

Kevin Eugene Swick, 65, formerly of McPherson, KS, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at his home in Little Flock, AR.&nbsp; He was a sales clerk at the Cabela’s store in Rogers, AR.&nbsp;

Kevin was born May 13, 1959, in McPherson, KS, the son of Donald Keith and Hazel Ozeta (Decker) Swick.&nbsp; He graduated from McPherson High School.

Survivors include his sister, Saundra Bruce of McPherson, KS; brother, Darryl Swick of McPherson, KS; niece, Shana (John) Gollihar of McPherson, KS; nephew, Jason (Kala) Bruce of McPherson, KS; great-nieces &amp; nephews, Casey (Kayla) Baker, Chad Jensen, Aaron Jensen, Alex (Michael) Kaiser, Jordan Gollihar, and Taylor Bruce; 13 great-great-nieces &amp; nephews; and many extended relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Gary Bruce.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at Crestwood Memorial Park, McPherson.

Kevin Eugene Swick

Doris Chloe McCall, 100, of New Cambria, Kansas, passed away peacefully at her home, Thursday, October 3.

Doris was born in Clyde, Kansas on January 3, 1924, to Vesta "Resco" and Paul Stolzenburg.

Doris and Robert were married in Concordia, Kansas on May 7th, 1942. She later received her Food Service Director Certificate and worked at Windsor Estates for several years.

In her free time, Doris loved to travel, crochet, and complete crosswords. Her family was her number one priority and she was always there for them when needed.

Doris is survived by two daughters, Tammy Lewis (Larry), of Meriden, Kansas; Tyra Farris (Lonnie), of Webb City, Missouri; and a son, Bob McCall (Ann), of New Cambria, Kansas.

She is also survived by grandchildren, Stephan McCall (Kim), Shilind Wheaton, Misty Hill (Matt), Wendy Bohachick (Matt), Curtis Farris (Charlotte); 8 great grandchildren.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Eldon Stolzenburg; infant brother, Max Stolzenburg; and sisters, Keta Hiner, Elaine Smith, and Lois Shotwell.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 9th, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home in Salina, Kansas.

A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, October 10th, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Carlson - Geisendorf Funeral Home with Pastor Eric Meyer officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Interim Hospice and the Alzheimer's and Dementia Association in care of the funeral home.

Helen “Renie” Green, 76, of Salina, passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2024.&nbsp; She was born in Salina, on March 1, 1948, to Flavis and Dorothy (Scott) Kilgariff.&nbsp; She married Robert “Bob” Green on March 30, 1973 and he passed away, March 17, 1999.&nbsp; Renie graduated from Tescott High School in 1966.&nbsp; She was a local business owner and hairdresser for many years.

She is survived by her husband Steve Echer, of the home; children, Lonnie Green (Valerie), of Denver, Lori Robinson (Mike), of Solomon; grandchildren, Bobby Robinson and Scott Robinson; stepchildren, Shelby Hume (Brian), of Wichita, Carrie Marvin (Don), of Leon and Wade Echer (Camille), of Connecticut; step-grandchildren, Cheyenne Marvin, Sierra Hockett, Savannah Marvin, Jordan Echer (Bailey) and (Lena and Jack Echer); two step great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents and first husband, Bob.

A celebration of Renie’s life will be Saturday, October 12, at Rooster’s Tavern.&nbsp; An inurnment at Gypsum Hill Cemetery, will take place at a later date.

Helen “Renie” Green

Obituaries are hard. Not just for the obvious fact of having to write about the loss of a loved one. No, the most challenging part is trying to determine how one can truly summarize a life on paper. 

From a high-level view, Tamara Lyn (McCall) Strange passed away peacefully at the age of 56 in the early morning of October 1, 2024. She was the wife of 29 years to Stoney Strange, had three sons, Dakota, Ty and Walker Strange and a daughter-in-law, Samantha Strange, who is due with their first child in November. She was a sister to Gina (Preston) Stewart and Tracy Fox (Jon) Weninger. She was a daughter to her father and beloved stepmother, Tom and Patty McCall, as well as her late mother Cathy Thompson who passed in 2011. She was fortunate enough to experience a large family with many cousins, nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and nephews. And she was a friend to even more. She was loved by many, and she loved back.

However, this high-level view does not paint the full picture. It does not show that during Tamara’s final days in the hospital, there were rarely less than 10 people at a time there to see her, sit by her, hold her hand and tell her they love her. It does not show how, even in a time of sadness, she had a special ability to bring everybody together.

This high-level view does not show you that Tam was a woman of simple pleasures. Tam loved her quiet house in Inman, Kansas where you could see the stars clearly at night and would fall asleep to the mooing of the neighbor’s cattle only to be awoken in the morning by her sons yelling as they zoomed through the yard on go-carts. Tam’s love of the simple things also extended to fuzzy socks and pajama pants as she had overflowing drawers with each. Though this was often her outfit of choice at home, she would not be caught dead outside the house wearing these (no offense to those who do wear pajama pants out and about).

This high-level view does not show you that Tam was naturally skilled in many traits and qualities that several of us lack. She was a strong listener and though she was often quiet, you never forgot that she was there. Tam had an innate ability to make you feel seen when speaking to her. And she rarely spoke out of turn, unless, of course, she was arguing the ruling of a board game. Because another thing about Tam that the high-level view does not show you is that she was secretly very competitive.

The high-level view does not show you that Tam was also a successful business owner of a local fruit stand, Tam’s Country Fresh, and Kansas State Fair restaurant, The Fruit Bowl. There, she taught her three young sons the value of an early morning and hard day’s work. She taught them how to properly count change back to customers without using a calculator. But most importantly, she continued to let them be kids and made sure they knew that it was okay, and even encouraged, to taste the product. You see, it’s hard NOT to buy the fresh fruit when you see three happy boys with juices dripping down their chins. You could say she knew a bit about marketing and sales too.

Tam was one of the good ones. She cared deeply for her friends and family. She loved her husband, Stoney, as they were always having fun together, pulling pranks on their friends, creating memorable moments for their kids and enjoying the life they had built together. And though Stoney would often repeat long, detailed stories almost daily, Tam would (most of the time) let him tell them, though rarely doing so without a hidden eye roll. Tam had a soft smile and incredibly expressive eyebrows that could tell a story without saying a word.

Tam passed peacefully after a long battle with cancer. She was a fighter even during her final days. In typical Tam fashion, she waited until the room cleared, just momentarily, as she hated being the center of attention. From there, she entered eternal rest. And she did so wearing her favorite fuzzy socks.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Countryside Covenant Church, 940 E. Northview Ave., McPherson, KS.

We sadly announce the passing of our loved one, Ryan Anthony Martinez, 41, of McPherson, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born September 27, 1982, and died September 15, 2024.&nbsp; He was native to central California and lived in the McPherson/Hutchinson, KS area for the past two years to be closer to his mother.

Ryan was a soft spoken, gentle, kind, and compassionate man.&nbsp; He loved his family and friends dearly. He especially had a love for all things nature.

Ryan is survived by his mother and step-father, Robin and Russell Vincent; his grandparents, Maureen and Kenny Baumbauch; his estranged father, Rick Martinez; his sisters, Jenn Howards and family, Cassie Maizon and family, Chelsey O’Quinn, Brittinie Avilla and family, and Destinie Roberts and family.&nbsp; He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. &nbsp;&nbsp;All who know him are already missing him and will miss him in the days and years to come.&nbsp; R.I.P.

Ryan Martinez

Gerald Rufener, 70, of Salina, KS, Passed away September 27, 2024 In Salina, KS.

Gerald was born on June 14, 1954, in Wichita KS, and was adopted by Cecil and Harriet Rufener of Hope, KS. He graduated from Hope High School in 1973 and went on to work at Beach Aircraft for 31 years. Gerald married Wilma Iseli in 1977 and they had one son, Brian, then later divorced. He married his current wife, Grace, in 2013.

Gerald has been a member of The Odd Fellows Lodge since 2005. He enjoyed his hobbies of hunting, fishing, model trains and woodworking. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife; Grace. Sons; Brian (Kristen) of Salina, KS and their children; Austin, Samantha (Matthew), Tyler (McKenzie), Hayden and Jay; Michael Huth (Katherine) of Pearland, TX and their children, Sophia and Lauren. Lynn of Salina; Kathleen of Salina and Therese of L.A. California. His brother, Wayne Rufener (Judy), sister Pamela Sheets (Jeffery) and brother-in-law (Ed Brownell) . Along with his beloved great grandchildren; Oliver, Lucas, Eva and Londyn. Nieces and nephews; Zac Sheets (Chanelle), Shantel Sheets; Kaleb and Lindsey Greenemeyer.&nbsp; As well as many extended family and friends.

Gerald is preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Harriet and his younger sister Joyce.

Funeral services will be held at St. Philip Catholic Church in Hope, KS, on October 12th at 10:30 am for a joint funeral with his sister, Joyce Brownell of Kansas City. No burial is planned, his family will spread his ashes at a later date. part of his ashes will later be interned with his wife Grace.

He graduated from Hope High School in 1973 and went on to work at Beach Aircraft for 31 years. Gerald married Wilma Iseli in 1977 and they had one son, Brian, then later divorced. He married his current wife, Grace, in 2013.Gerald has been a member of The Odd Fellows Lodge since 2005. He enjoyed his hobbies of hunting, fishing, model trains and woodworking. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.He is survived by his wife; Grace. Sons; Brian (Kristen) of Salina, KS and their children; Austin, Samantha (Matthew), Tyler (McKenzie), Hayden and Jay; Michael Huth (Katherine) of Pearland, TX and their children, Sophia and Lauren. Lynn of Salina; Kathleen of Salina and Therese of L.A. California. His brother, Wayne Rufener (Judy), sister Pamela Sheets (Jeffery) and brother-in-law (Ed Brownell) . Along with his beloved great grandchildren; Oliver, Lucas, Eva and Londyn. Joyce Brownell, 59, of Grain Valley, MO, passed away on September 26, 2024 in Kansas City, MO.

Joyce was born on July 24, 1965, in Florida and was lovingly adopted by Cecil and Harriet Rufener of Hope, KS. She grew up in a vibrant household alongside her three older siblings and graduated from Hope High School in 1983.

Throughout her career, Joyce found success in various roles, primarily within the service industry, where her dedication and work ethic shone brightly. In 2013, she married Ed Brownell, and for the past decade, they built a loving life together in Grain Valley.

Joyce’s greatest joy in life was her family. A fierce "Momma Bear," she was an unwavering supporter of her children, often heard cheering passionately from the sidelines at their games. Joyce adored spending time with her grandchildren, engaging them in fun crafts, taking them to parades, and even setting up a bounce house in the living room for endless laughter and play. A huge fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, the Royals, and the K-State Wildcats, she proudly showcased her loyalty to her favorite teams. A true music enthusiast, she loved blasting tunes and singing along with her kids and grandkids, creating a joyful and lively atmosphere in their home.

Now, it is time for Joyce to fly, her spirit soaring free as she leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

She is survived by her husband, Ed; son Kaleb Greenemeyer; daughter Lindsey Greenemeyer; grandchildren Kaidyn Greenemeyer, Adilynn Greenemeyer, Brayden Risinger, Weston Risinger, and Tyson Risinger; mother-in-law Alexine Brownell; stepchildren Andraia (Jeff) Uffman, Arthur (Amber) Brownell, and Amanda (James) Swaim; and their children Isaiah Smith; Trey, Sean, and Chloe Brownell; Philip and Evan Swaim. Jeanne was born in Phoenix, Arizona on January 9, 1952, daughter of Vernice (Persian) Norby.

Survivors include her two sons, Robby Van Zile (Larrissa), Jeremy Laurelas; sister, Darlene Demory (Stan); and brother, Terry Nordby.

Betty was born on October 17, 1948 in Weldon, LA to parents Fred and Lillian Beaver Briggs.

She worked in medical field for 20+ years.

She was a member of St Johns Missionary Baptist Church 25+ years……and ABSOLUTELY LOVED her pastor. She served as Deaconess and as a Mission Board Member. She was strong member of the community, serving in the jail ministry to men and women for many years. She was a very VERY determined woman, excellent cook and singer, she loved her church, spending time with family, and talking on the phone, the Kansas City Chiefs and Wichita Shockers fan.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents.

Betty is survived by her son Carl Rex Gray, Jr. of Salina, KS; and 7 Grandchildren.

Tony Wilcox, 75, of Salina, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his home, on Saturday, September 21, 2024.

Tony was born in Yale, OK on Oct 1, 1948. He was the second oldest of seven children.

Tony was raised in Lyons, KS where he attended grade school and graduated high school in 1968. During high school he enjoyed playing basketball.

After graduation he was Deployed to Vietnam with the Army where he served 1 year and 8 months in heavy artillery operations.

Upon returning from Vietnam and later being Honorably Discharged, he married Sandra L. Duft on July 18, 1970 in Alden, KS.

Tony furthered his career in heavy equipment construction and in the oilfield as well as doing building/road construction.

During his free time, he loved spending it with friends and family. Tony had a love for music where he taught himself to play the guitar and banjo. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, and woodworking, where he made multiple sets of constructions fleets for his grandkids to enjoy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Roy D. and Ellen Wilcox; brother: Ron Wilcox; sisters: Shirley Akers and Sandi Dier.

Carolyn (Carol) E. Wright was born March 26, 1948 in Junction City, Kansas the daughter of Luther H. and Theora E. (Adolph) Brumbalow. She passed away Thursday, September 19, 2024 at the Enterprise Estates Nursing Home in Enterprise, Kansas.

Carol enjoyed crafts, quilting, crocheting, playing bingo, gardening, making jewelry, painting, and raising pigs.

On January 22, 1968 she was united in marriage to Kenneth C. Wright. He passed away May 26, 2018.

Carolyn is survived by her daughter Lisa Gasswint and her husband Roy of Abilene, son Kevin Wright of Abilene, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Besides her husband, Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Wayne.

Graveside services for Carolyn will be 2:00 pm Friday, October 25, 2024 at the Mt. Hope Cemetery near Enterprise with Pastor Stan Norman officiating. Carolyn (Carol) E. Wright

Donna Lou Fleming, 63 gained her wings on September 17, 2024 at her home in Abilene. Donna was born July 2, 1961 in Los Angeles, California, the third daughter of Kenneth Lee and Mary Jo (Price) Fleming. She was employed by the occupational Center of Central Kansas for more than 35 years. 

She was a resident of OCCK Facilities for many years until her passing. Donna is survived by a sister, Marie and her husband Carl. Nephew Travis and wife Faith, Nieces Wendy and husband Ray, Jenny and Partner Leon, Roxanne and partner Dee, great nieces Logan, Christian, Kiley, Emily, Isabelle and Jenny, Nephews Raymond and Kenny, great-grand nieces Grace, Olivia, and Kinsley. 

She is also survived by her “bonus” Sisters/Care givers Jenny, Kristi, Tasha, Arlene, Jessica, Izzy, Maddy and Vicky, and her two besties, Wanda and Barb and a very large and loving extended family. 

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, sister Judy (on 17, July 2024) brother James Lee and her first bestie Robin. She will be terribly missed by all.

Donna was born July 2, 1961 in Los Angeles, California, the third daughter of Kenneth Lee and Mary Jo (Price) Fleming. She was employed by the occupational Center of Central Kansas for more than 35 years. She was a resident of OCCK Facilities for many years until her passing. Donna is survived by a sister, Marie and her husband Carl. Nephew Travis and wife Faith, Nieces Wendy and husband Ray, Jenny and Partner Leon, Roxanne and partner Dee, great nieces Logan, Christian, Kiley, Emily, Isabelle and Jenny, Nephews Raymond and Kenny, great-grand nieces Grace, Olivia, and Kinsley. She is also survived by her “bonus” Sisters/Care givers Jenny, Kristi, Tasha, Arlene, Jessica, Izzy, Maddy and Vicky, and her two besties, Wanda and Barb and a very large and loving extended family. Donna was preceded in death by her parents, sister Judy (on 17, July 2024) brother James Lee and her first bestie Robin. She will be terribly missed by all. Donna Lou Fleming

Waldo Dale Lang, 91, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2024. He was born in Tampa, KS on July 5, 1933 to Rudolph Carl and Bertha Weiss Lang.

Waldo attended Stony Point School for first through eighth grade and graduated from Dickinson County Community High School (Chapman, KS) in 1951. He worked on the family farm before joining the United States Army in 1953, serving until 1955. Waldo then graduated from Kansas State University in 1960 with a B.S. in Agricultural Engineering.

Waldo and Dorothy Howie married in Abilene on May 26, 1957. To this union their three children Susan, Sandy, and Steve were born.

Waldo and Dorothy lived in several locations in Kansas before settling outside of Abilene, KS. He worked for Ehrsam’s Manufacturing for many years, eventually becoming President. Waldo enjoyed his work with Ehrsam’s, but his love of farming never faded and at the age of 40, he quit his job in the pursuit of a farming career. He was still actively farming into his 80s and never officially retired, but rather let his son and grandsons help him with his farming endeavors in his last few years.

In 1996 and 1997, Waldo consulted for Ehrsam’s on projects in Bangkok, Thailand, Chile, and Indonesia. This afforded Waldo and Dorothy a rare opportunity to travel and experience other cultures.

Waldo was a devoted husband and father. He dedicated himself to his family’s happiness and well-being, and always put others above himself. He was a kind and generous man, strong as the earth he so devotedly tended. Waldo will be greatly missed not only by children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, but also by many nieces, nephews and other family members who have lovingly embraced him as the patriarch of the Lang family.

In addition to his parents, Waldo is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy; six brothers and four sisters. He is survived by a sister, LaVella Burjes; his children Susan (Steve) Powell, Sandy (Greg Smith) Lang, and Steve (Jill) Lang; grandchildren Chris (Giselle) Powell, Thomas Powell, Cameron (Jessie Ammann) Lang, Cassie Lang, Cody (Sierra) Lang, Olivia (Gus Bryant) Crist, and Ava Crist; great-grandchildren Archer and Atlas Powell, Copeland, Everett, Leo and Harvey Lang, Kolter Ammann and Rocket Lang, and Baby Bryant due in February 2025.

Phyllis Irene Kolling, age 95, of Chapman Kansas, passed away at Countryside, Abilene Kansas, September 15, 2024.

Phyllis was born on June 2, 1929, to Loren and Esther (Buhrer) Long at the family farm in rural Chapman.

She attended Prairie Cottage Grade School. Phyllis then attended Dickinson County Community High School, graduating in 1947.

On October 10, 1948, she married Henry Kolling. They had three children, Gary, Joleen, and Jana. They lived in the Upland and Chapman communities and farmed. Besides her work on the family farm, Phyllis worked at the Chapman State Bank and Kolling Pharmacy.

Phyllis enjoyed cooking and baking, sewing, and gardening; also playing bridge, pitch, rummy, dominoes and RACKO, with friends and family. Her skills with arts and crafts brought joy to those around her. She prepared crafts for the Bethany Church Bible School, Sunday School, and at the Chapman library. Her grandchildren always had a fun craft project to accomplish.

She attended Sherman and Lakeside EHUs for most of her adult life, serving as an officer, committee member, and friend. Phyllis and Hank belonged to Buttons and Bows Square Dance group and Dickinson County Rural Life. They were active members of Bethany Church during their married life.

Survivors include son Gary Kolling (Devra), rural Chapman; daughters Joleen Marsteller (Tom), Carmel, Indiana, and Jana McCandless (Kevin), Nesbit, Mississippi. Grandchildren are Cherilyn Hultz (Jason), Doug Marsteller (Nicole), Jackie Thompson (Scott), Anna Barth (Andy), Justin McCandless (Jan), Kai Glauber (Laura), Crystal Kolling (Maria), Kirstie Frey (David), and many loving great grandchildren. Other family survivors are sisters-in-law Edna Long, Linda Long, Dorothy Holsted, Shirley Owens, and many nieces and nephews.

Phyllis was preceded in death by loving husband Hank of 69 years, parents Loren and Esther Long, her two brothers, Max and Leland Long. Phyllis Irene Kolling

David Warren Eberhart, age 78, was born in Beloit, KS, on August 1, 1946, and passed away September 27, 2024. He grew up on the family farm southwest of Jewell, KS, and graduated from Jewell Rural High School in 1964. He took the bus to Kansas City and joined the US Marine Corps the day after graduation. During his four years in the Marine Corps, David played the trombone in the Marine Corps band in California and served in Okinawa and Vietnam.

When David returned to the United States, he went to work installing garage doors. David did not care for unionization and the hectic California life so he moved back to Jewell County and worked for the meat packing plant in Mankato. He moved on to building bridges for Reece Construction and then began trucking. Trucking took him to Schwan's. After a short time, he was told he had a remarkable skill set and should transfer to the maintenance department where he could advance in the company. He did that, and he advanced. He became part of the Schwan management team. At the time of his retirement in 1996, he had been with the company nearly 26 years. He was head of maintenance for many of those.

Retirement really wasn't in David's vocabulary. All along he continued to put in garage doors. Upon leaving Schwan's, he officially started his own garage door business, TD &amp; Co., which he continued until 2021. David's favorite past time was fixing things and talking to people. His motto was "Git'er done!" and he could do most anything!

It IS common knowledge that David never met a stranger. If he didn't already know someone, he would ask, "So, where are you from?" Within the next few moments, he'd find common ground and the conversation would begin, usually becoming quite lively.

David was a great guy and often the life of the party. He could tell story after story after story (true stories), keeping people in stitches throughout all of them. A positive person, he was also very determined, making sure that whatever task he started was finished and done well. If he said he'd do something, his word was good. Most of all, David was a kind, generous, loving man with a servant's heart who genuinely cared for others.

As Papa Dave, he loved laughing and playing with his grandchildren, lifting them so high they could touch their heads to the ceiling, having tea and getting his nails painted by the granddaughters, playing games and introducing them to skills such as fishing. He loved holding the children and was often the "go to" lap for a good long nap! He loved it.

David loved Jewell and his friends of all ages. The stories of his growing up never ended. Even though he lived in Salina his entire adult life, he was a familiar face in Jewell. He often simply came to just visit, put in garage doors, or help with harvest, projects and the like. He would not miss an Alumni or Corn Show weekend.

David attended the Lindsborg Evangelical Covenant Church. In addition to being a former volunteer firefighter, he was a proud member of the VFW, DAV, Marine Corps League, and Devil Dogs, often holding an office if not at the helm. Much of his free time was dedicated to advancing these organizations and their missions.

David is survived by his wife, Deborrah, of Lindsborg; step-sons Brian Welch (Leanna), Ben Welch (Tisha), step-daughters Ashley Abuel (Dave), Alyssa Caudill (Drake), Amanda Dick (Dustin); niece, Tambria Pfannenstiel (Mark); great-nephew, Gavin McGee; great-niece, Chloe McGee; grandchildren, Henry, Bradley, Parker, Lily, Timothy, ZoeBeth, McKenna, Genesis, Hollie, Ellis, Jonathan, Logan and Savannah.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Marieta Eberhart; sister, Cynthia Worthing; and wife, Charlene.&nbsp;

Visitation will be held Friday, October 4th, 2024 from 4:00pm – 7:00pm at Kleppinger Funeral Home, Jewell, KS.

David Warren Eberhart

Aron Tyler Reyna, 29, of Salina, passed away Thursday, September 26th, 2024.

Aron was born in Salina, Kansas on August 2, 1995, a son of Kelly (Banks) Cole and Israel Reyna.

He owned Reyna Remodeling for four years. Aron enjoyed being with friends, playing disc golf, spending time on his Xbox, camping and fishing. He was always helpful when his friends and family were in need.

Survivors include his mother, Kelly Cole (Jeff); sister, Elayna Warrington; three brothers, Matt Reyna (Kathleen), Juan Leones, and Jason Leones; grandparents, Connie Johnson, Tim Banks, Martha Reyna, Judy Shorter (Rick); uncles, Scott Banks (Amber), Jessie Reyna; aunts, Jennifer Anderson (Josh), Delia Pham (Minh), Rosalinda Reyna; and many cousins.

He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Journi, Easton, Champ, Carter, Chloe, Emery, and Camila.

Aron is preceded in death by his father, Israel Reyna and uncle, Joe Reyna.

Aron Tyler Reyna

John R. Merriman, 82, Minneapolis, died Friday, September 27, 2024, with his family at his side. He was born April 11, 1942, in Tescott to John E. and Ethel C. (Nolf) Merriman.

John was a 1960 graduate of Tescott High School. He and Rosalie Wagner were married August 18, 1968, in Edmond. He was a lifelong beef farmer and longtime truck driver for Graves Trucking. John and Rosalie lived on the farm until they moved to Minneapolis six years ago.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Rosalie; and brother-in-law, Doug Cramb.

Survivors are his wife of 56 years, Rosalie; daughters, Judy Ann and Becky Rae Webb and her husband, Jr. all of Minneapolis; brother, Dan Merriman and his wife, Priscilla; sister, Rose Cramb; numerous nieces and nephews; and his fur babies, Avery, Axel, and Cherrio.

The family would like to thank the staff at Minneapolis Health and Rehabilitation Center for the great care they gave to John during his short stay.

John R. Merriman

Jean Ann (Lancaster) Reed, died peacefully in her sleep on September 26, 2024 after a year-long battle with cancer. &nbsp;Born on August 2, 1946, Jean lived her earthly life centered around her family and friends and now is in her eternal heavenly home, surrounded by her husband, parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. &nbsp;

Jean was born in, and grew up in, Topeka, Kansas. She attended Topeka West High School where she met several lifelong friends and started playing tennis. &nbsp;She graduated in 1964, and then attended Kansas State University, where she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority, and played guard on the first women’s basketball team at KSU. &nbsp;She graduated in 1968, with her Physical Education degree and went on to be an assistant women’s basketball coach at the University of Kansas. &nbsp;She met many lifelong friends in her sorority and from her team. &nbsp;She met her husband, Dale Reed, at KSU, and they married on January 10, 1970, in Topeka, Kansas. &nbsp;

Jean and Dale had two children, Kristen Zimmerman and Keri Skinner (Teru), and very much enjoyed their grandchildren – Ruby Zimmerman (18) and Cole Zimmerman (15). Jean was a loving person and made everyone around her feel special, and took care of many people throughout her life – her children, her Mother, her Mother-in-law, and her husband. &nbsp;She loved her family, her church, and her many dear friends. &nbsp;

She loved K-State sports, and fried chicken, Elvis music, and holiday dinners with family. &nbsp;She was a proud American and proud Kansan, and proud of her family’s military service. &nbsp;You could count on her to listen, to take care of things, for a giggle about something silly, to organize family gatherings, to be considerate, to be on time (if not a little early), and to make little notes about everything from passwords to meal plans to inspirational quotes. &nbsp;One note in her box of things with her at the end of her life said, “Tears may come at night, but there is always joy in the morning.” &nbsp;

Her Christian faith is her foundation, and helped her through the ups and downs of life. &nbsp;

Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 3, at Sunrise Presbyterian Church, Salina, Kansas, and her burial will take place in Spring 2025 at Balch Cemetery in Formoso, Kansas. &nbsp;

Roland H. “Pierre” Peacock Jr., 89, of Denver, Colo., passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2024. He was born on July 18, 1935, in Medford, Mass., to Roland Sr. and Elizabeth (Engle) Peacock.

Pierre married Deanna Stauffer in 1962. He served over 23 years in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Master Seargent.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Deanna; daughter, Tawnya Peacock Gibbons (Glenn); son, Rex Peacock (Julie); and brother, Michael Peacock.
