Mark E. Hassman, 66, of Salina, passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2025.  He was born in Salina on July 24, 1958, and resided there his entire life.

Mark was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church.  He was a graduate of Salina South High School in 1976 and afterward attended three years at Kansas Wesleyan University.  During his high school years, he enjoyed the activity of competitive debate and later became an assistant coach for four years at Salina Central High School.

His parents owned Hassman Termite and Pest Control and Mark grew up learning that business.  He was a two-time President of the Kansas Pest Control Association (KPCA), a two-time winner of the Man of the Year award, and for several years was a chairman of the Government Affairs committee of the KPCA.   Mark was also a published writer in several pest control publications over the years.

He was devout in his faith and was proud to be a long-time member of Christ the King Lutheran Church.  In the church he served on many committees and on the Board of Directors.

On December 6, 1986, he was lucky enough to be married to Mary Werling.  From this union two girls were born – Amanda and Ashley.  Mark was very proud of both of them.  He had many great memories of them both growing up and as adults.

Mark is preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Marlene Hassman; grandparents, Henry and Mabel Hassman and Carl and Helen Alt.

He is survived by his wife Mary; two daughters, Amanda (Matt) Biolsi, and Ashley Hassman; brother Mike (Angie) Hassman; nephew Andrew Hassman; and his beloved “grand-dogs.”

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2025, at Ryan Mortuary.  Family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 12, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 111 W Magnolia Road, Salina.  Graveside will be in Gypsum Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church Cares Committee, or non-perishable items donated at the visitation and funeral service for the church blessing box.

Stan Leroy Kenton, 70, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at Pleasant View Home in Inman, KS.&nbsp;

Stan was born November 28, 1954, in Wichita, KS, the son of Eugene Cecil and Mary Lois (Stansel) Kenton.&nbsp; He graduated from Canton High School in 1972.&nbsp; On January 20, 1986, Stan was united in marriage to Kelly Patrick in Las Vegas, NV, and they were blessed with loving daughters, Megan, Shawna, and Miranda.

He retired from Johns Manville where he was a Machine Chief, working there for 38 years.

Survivors include his three daughters, Miranda Walters (Greg) of McPherson, KS, Shawna Kenton of McPherson, KS, and Megan Kenton-Smith (Clinton) of Detroit Lakes, MN; six grandchildren, Bentley Konen, Riggs Walters, Rhodes Walters, Greydan Smith, KayDee Smith, and Adelyne Smith; siblings, Sheryl Railsback (Gene) of McPherson, KS, Marsha Rageth of McPherson, KS, and Winston Kenton (Sally) of Wichita, KS; former wife, Kelly Patrick and her husband, Jeff Ponting, and their son, Kolin, of McPherson, KS; several nieces &amp; nephews; and many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Clarence Kenton; and a sister, Zelma Kenton.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.&nbsp; The memorial service will be at 10:30 AM, Friday, April 18, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.

All those in attendance at the visitation and service are encouraged to dress casually or wear Stan’s favorite sports attire: St. Louis Cardinals, KU Jayhawks, or KC Chiefs.

Stan Leroy Kenton

Frances Ann Drummond passed away on April 4, 2025, in Salina. She was born November 13, 1929, to Frank and Anna (Jaros) Derganz in Monaca, PA.

Her father passed away when she was only 9 years old, and in 1945 her mother re-married and they moved to Salina, KS. She graduated from Salina High School and Brown Mackie College.

She married Elbert (Ace) Drummond in 1952 in Salina, KS.

Frances worked for Richmond, Glover and Barbee Insurance, Central Savings &amp; Loan, and retired after 25 years of service for the Catholic Diocese of Salina. She was also the bookkeeper for Ace Auto Shop and The Ritz Theater in the1960’s and for Drummond Farms into her early 90’s. In her retirement, she worked part-time at the Minneapolis Library for many years and also served on the Central Kansas Library Board.

Frances was a long-time member of the Immaculate Conception Church and was also an active member of the VFW Auxiliary in Minneapolis. She and Ace were very active with the Golden Wheel and delivered Meals on Wheels for several years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather Glen Lee, and her husband Elbert “Ace” Drummond.

Frances is survived by her son, Paul (Jerri) Drummond; daughter Denise (Sheldon) Frain; and son, Tony (Susan) Drummond. She is also survived by a granddaughter, Leslie (Matt) Parker and grandson, Chris (Michelle) Drummond; as well as great -grandchildren Micah, Levi, and Claire Parker; Connery, Lennox, and Ace Drummond.

            The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Thursday, April 10 at Wilson Family Funeral Home, 405 Argyle Ave., Minneapolis, KS 67467. Frances Ann Drummond

Karen Sue (Grotz) Winkel, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025, at Downs Care and Rehabilitation. Born on January 17, 1942, in St. Paul, Kansas, she graced this world with her loving spirit for over 83 years, leaving behind a treasure trove of memories that will warm the hearts of all who knew her.

Karen spent an extraordinary 65 years as a dedicated homemaker and farm wife, a role she embraced with unmatched passion and devotion. She was not only known for her incredible sourdough bread and daily freshly baked cookies but also for her exquisite gardening skills and her talent for canning. People often found themselves feeling at home in her kitchen, never leaving with an empty stomach. Karen's famous cinnamon applesauce remains a cherished dish, fondly remembered by family and friends alike.

Raised with strong values, Karen completed her high school education at St. John's Catholic School in 1960. It was there that she developed the character traits that would define her life: a warm heart, unwavering resilience, and an exceptional ability to put her family first. She married the love of her life, Karl Peter Winkel, on June 16, 1960, at St. John's Catholic Church in Beloit, Kansas. Together, they celebrated a remarkable 65 years of marriage, with one of the highlights being a memorable trip to Alaska for their 50th wedding anniversary.

Throughout her life, Karen cherished her family above all else. Her children—Kari (Joe) Eilert, Steven (Judi) Winkel, Christopher Winkel, and Kurt Winkel—were her pride and joy, and she adored each of her 16 grandchildren. Whether it was crafting delightful projects with her sewing machine for her granddaughters or sewing baby quilts for the new grandbabies, Karen found immense joy in nurturing the next generation. Her deep love for her family was evident in her everyday actions; she took delight in their successes and never hesitated to brag about them to anyone who would listen.

Aside from her family life, Karen's personality shone brightly. She was known for her level-headed nature and sweet disposition. Her grandchildren often brought laughter into her home, delighting in the playful thrill of hiding rubber rats to give her a gentle scare. These playful memories exemplified her spirit—filled with joy, light, and an infectious love for life.

Karen's life was also enriched by her education, hobbies, and cherished relationships. She enjoyed gardening, baking, and engaging in crafts, always finding ways to express her creativity. One of her most treasured memories from her youth was a trip to Whittier, California, where she visited her Aunt and Uncle, a journey she fondly recalled throughout her life.

Karen leaves behind her beloved husband, Karl P. Winkel of Glen Elder; her siblings: Gary (Fe) Grotz of Rio Vista, California; Carole Schneider of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; Alan (Kathy) Grotz of Mission Viejo, California; and Joy (Jim Pillard) Grotz of Beloit. She is also survived by her adoring children and their families, as well as 16 cherished grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 6 nieces and nephews.

She was greeted in heaven by her parents, Joyce and Noel Grotz; her brother-in-law, John Schneider; her son, Karl P. Winkel, Jr.; her grandson, Mark Winkel; and her great-nephew, Sam Schneider.

Karen Sue (Grotz) Winkel

Father William J. Surmeier was born in Hays, Kansas on January 7, 1940, the second son of Anton and Gertrude (Fellhoelter) Surmeier and passed away on April 3, 2025.

He attended St. Paul’s Catholic School in Angelus, Kansas, Thomas County Grade School in Oakley, and St. Francis High School Seminary in Victoria. He attended college and theology at Conception Seminary, Conception, Missouri, and was ordained a priest for the Salina Diocese on May 27, 1965 in his home parish in Oakley. Fr. Bill took a year-long sabbatical and earned a Master’s degree in Pastoral Counseling at Loyola University, Columbia, Maryland. He earned his Doctorate in Psychology from the Graduate Theological Foundation in Indiana.

He served as an associate pastor in the Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish, Salina, from ‘65-‘67, St. Xavier’s Parish, Junction City, ‘67-‘69, Immaculate Heart of Mary, Hays, ‘69-‘72, Sacred Heart and St. Michael Parishes in Greenleaf/Kimeo ’71, and Team Ministry ‘72-‘82 at Selden, Oberlin, Logan, Leoville, New Almelo and Densmore. He was pastor of St. Mary Queen of the Universe Parish, Salina, ‘82-91, St. Nicholas of Myra, Hays, ‘93-2005, Sacred Heart and St. Thomas, Plainville and Stockton. 2005-‘08, and St. Mary Parish, Gorham, 2008-‘14.

Fr. Bill served as Priest Council president for many terms during the 1970s and ‘80s under Bishops Cyril Vogel, Daniel Kucera, and George Fitzsimons. Fr. Bill was known for his dedication to the youth of our diocese. He was CYO Director from 1969 to 1984 under Bishop Vogel, developing a strong youth ministry and the first Youth Council for our diocese.

One of Fr. Bill’s passions was empowering Lay Ministry in our diocese, and with the aid of the Parish Pastoral Council at St. Nick's, he was the first to hire a Pastoral Administrator, Arvilla Jueneman, for St. Nicholas of Myra Parish.

His vocation also led him to full-time counseling for Catholic Charities in Hays from 1993 to 2014 until he retired.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Gertrude, two sisters, Clara Zimmerman and Theresa Surmeier, and one brother, Alvin Surmeier.

He is survived by two brothers, Tony Surmeier of Colby and Henry Surmeier of Springfield Oregon, and many nieces, nephews, friends, and brother priests.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church with Bishop Gerald Vincke officiating. Burial will be at 3:00 pm in St. Joseph Cemetery in Oakley. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Tuesday at the church. A parish vigil service and rosary will be at 7:00 pm on Tuesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Salina Diocese in care of Youth Ministry. He earned his Doctorate in Psychology from the Graduate Theological Foundation in Indiana.He served as an associate pastor in the Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish, Salina, from ‘65-‘67, St. Xavier’s Parish, Junction City, ‘67-‘69, Immaculate Heart of Mary, Hays, ‘69-‘72, Sacred Heart and St. Michael Parishes in Greenleaf/Kimeo ’71, and Team Ministry ‘72-‘82 at Selden, Oberlin, Logan, Leoville, New Almelo and Densmore. He was pastor of St. Mary Queen of the Universe Parish, Salina, ‘82-91, St. Nicholas of Myra, Hays, ‘93-2005, Sacred Heart and St. Thomas, Plainville and Stockton. 2005-‘08, and St. Mary Parish, Gorham, 2008-‘14.Fr. Bill served as Priest Council president for many terms during the 1970s and ‘80s under Bishops Cyril Vogel, Daniel Kucera, and George Fitzsimons. Fr. Bill was known for his dedication to the youth of our diocese. He was CYO Director from 1969 to 1984 under Bishop Vogel, developing a strong youth ministry and the first Youth Council for our diocese.One of Fr. Bill’s passions was empowering Lay Ministry in our diocese, and with the aid of the Parish Pastoral Council at St. Nick's, he was the first to hire a Pastoral Administrator, Arvilla Jueneman, for St. Nicholas of Myra Parish.His vocation also led him to full-time counseling for Catholic Charities in Hays from 1993 to 2014 until he retired.He was preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Gertrude, two sisters, Clara Zimmerman and Theresa Surmeier, and one brother, Alvin Surmeier.He is survived by two brothers, Tony Surmeier of Colby and Henry Surmeier of Springfield Oregon, and many nieces, nephews, friends, and brother priests.Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church with Bishop Gerald Vincke officiating. Burial will be at 3:00 pm in St. Joseph Cemetery in Oakley. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Tuesday at the church. Carla Josephine Hattan passed away March 30, 2025, at her home after complications from a decade long battle with Dementia/Alzheimer's disease.

She was born in Hays, Kansas to Lyle and Mary Jo (Wolf) Stroup on September 6, 1957.

Carla spent a large portion of her childhood in Alberta Province, Canada, but also in Kansas, Texas and Wyoming, moving to Hays, Kansas when she was a freshman in high school. Carla graduated from Hays High School in 1975. She graduated from Fort Hays State University with a bachelor's degree in secondary education and a master's degree in counseling. She earned a Ph.D. from Kansas State University in counselor education.

Carla taught at TMP-Marion High School before becoming the guidance counselor at Ness City High School. She started working at Fort Hays State University in 1987. She served as assistant director of placement and development and assistant director of the Kelly Center prior to joining the teaching faculty in the administration and counseling education department. She was the first instructor to use blackboard online learning at Fort Hays State University. She was named Counselor Educator of the year. She was a member of the 1st Leadership Hays class. She also served on the United Way Board of Directors. Upon her retirement, she was named Professor Emeritus at Fort Hays State University. An award in the counselor education department was named in her honor, known as the Carla Hattan Outstanding Student Award.

Carla married Dr. Michael Hattan on June 28, 1986. To this union two children were born, Holly Muriel and Ross Michael. Carla was a great lover of animals and always had multiple pets. She enjoyed going to all her children's activities and her life revolved around her children. Carla was also very talented. In her younger years she played guitar at Guitar Masses and was choreographer one year for "Sweet and Sour Krauts" variety show. She also enjoyed traveling, going on many trips throughout the years. Carla was a very kind, caring, loving individual who definitely cared about people.

Carla is survived by her husband Mike, daughter Holly (Dalton) Converse, Manhattan, Kansas, son Ross Hattan, Wichita, Kansas, granddaughter Elayna Converse, her mother, Mary Jo Stroup, one sister Lila (Ron) Nelson, two brothers Tony Stroup and Paul (Sara) Stroup, all of Hays, several nieces and nephews.

Carla was preceded in death by her father Lyle Stroup and infant brother Daniel and niece Laura Stroup.

Rex Trow, of Salina, Kansas, passed away March 22, 2025, at the age of 75.

Rex was born to George Edward (Ed) Trow Jr. and Mabel (Howe) Trow on Nov. 2, 1949. Rex attended Oakdale Grade School and Bennington High School.

Rex served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War in 1969-70. Specifically, Rex served in the Third Battalion, Eighth Infantry Regiment, which was also known as the “Fighting Dragoons.”

Rex married Terry Trow, and they had two children together, Timothy Trow and Michelle Trow. Rex worked for many years at the Western Auto Warehouse in Salina.

Rex, a longtime Salina resident, was a Shriner at the Masonic Temple. He collected toy cars and loved to cook, especially goulash.

Rex was preceded in death by his wife, Terry Trow; his parents, Ed and Mabel Trow; and his siblings, Dennis (Denny) Trow and Connie Beets.

Rex is survived by his children, Timothy Trow and Michelle Trow; his grandchildren, Mark Trow and Mekenzie Wise; his siblings, Rita Rose, Charlotte Weis, and Guy Trow; and many nieces and nephews.

Kathleen Kiely Barrett, 84, of Salina, KS passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025, surrounded by family.

Kathleen was born on August 8, 1940, in St. Paul, MN.&nbsp; She was the daughter of Richard &amp; Harriett Drewry Barrett.

Kathleen was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, aunt, and grandmother.&nbsp; She enjoyed sharing her love of gardening with everyone but especially, her grandchildren, who called her “Amma” and “Khaki”.&nbsp; She took them around to each plant, tree or flower and listed off all their unique characteristics and encourage them to see and smell.&nbsp; She also, enjoyed sharing her garden critters including hummingbirds, butterflies, lady bugs, bees, rabbits and “Terrence the Toad.”&nbsp; Spiders of any kind, size or threat were NEVER welcome.

Kathleen will be remembered by her ability to make others feel comfortable in her presence and her home.&nbsp; Her smile and laughter were contagious.&nbsp; She always had a kind word, was compassionate, willing to help and a loyal friend.&nbsp; This joy and kindness she attributed to her loving upbringing and deep love for her Savior, Jesus Christ.&nbsp; Her Bible study friends at Women of the Word, were precious to her and strengthened her character as a classy, woman of God.

She had a great love for college sports and thoroughly enjoyed hearing from her grandsons about their school’s upcoming games.&nbsp; She was an enthusiastic Packers fan, often cheering “Go Pack Go!” when they were playing.&nbsp; Another passion was anything related to building or remodeling a home on the Magnolia Network.&nbsp; She loved interior decorating and helped many friends and enthusiasts with their plans.&nbsp;

Mom wanted others to always feel special.&nbsp; She was our biggest supporter, encouraging us to reach beyond what we thought we could achieve.&nbsp; She lives on in our hearts, as we carry her legacy of love, friendship, and a most beautiful smile to the generations to come.&nbsp; We are better people for having her in our lives.

Survivors include her daughter, Maggie (Tom) Hemmer, Barrett Smith, and partner Karen Brewer (Boise, ID), Ryan Smith and fiancé Bambi Wheeler (Canby, OR) , “Inherited children” K.C. Kathleen Kiely Barrett

Lenoma Jean Lewis, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2025, at the age of 89 years. Born on April 7, 1935, in Belleville, Kansas, she was the daughter of Russell and Lillian (Jensen) Johnson. Lenoma lived a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure, making a lasting impact on everyone she met.&nbsp;From her humble beginnings in Belleville, Lenoma grew into a remarkable woman who dedicated herself to both her family and her career. For 35 years, she worked as a paralegal at Clark, Mize, and Linville Law Firm, where her strong work ethic and unwavering dedication earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues.&nbsp;Lenoma was a sports fanatic and an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and NASCAR. She often found joy in cheering for her favorite teams and sharing those exhilarating moments with her family. In addition to her love for sports, she enjoyed the thrill of going to the casino and spending summers camping at the lake. Her adventurous spirit led her to scuba dive in Belize, where she found beauty beneath the waves and made memories that she cherished deeply.&nbsp;Above all else, Lenoma loved her family unconditionally. She is survived by her two sons, Dave Lewis (Joanne) and Steve Lewis, who carry her legacy of kindness and compassion. Her grandchildren—Colter Lewis, Lexie Lewis, Erica Lewis, and Garrett Lewis—were a source of immense pride and joy for her. Lenoma also embraced her role as a step-grandparent, cherishing Nichole Bowden, and took great delight in her great-grandchildren: Leah Lewis and Morgan Lewis. She was also a proud step-great-grandmother to Cameron Bowden, Kylee Bowden, and great-great-grandmother to Evelyn Martin and Isabella Hyden.&nbsp;Lenoma was preceded in death by her loving parents and her devoted husband, Charles "Mike" Lewis. Her grandchildren—Colter Lewis, Lexie Lewis, Erica Lewis, and Garrett Lewis—were a source of immense pride and joy for her. Lenoma also embraced her role as a step-grandparent, cherishing Nichole Bowden, and took great delight in her great-grandchildren: Leah Lewis and Morgan Lewis. She was also a proud step-great-grandmother to Cameron Bowden, Kylee Bowden, and great-great-grandmother to Evelyn Martin and Isabella Hyden.&nbsp;Lenoma was preceded in death by her loving parents and her devoted husband, Charles "Mike" Lewis. JoAnne Josephine Balthazor, 87, of Clyde, Kansas, passed away peacefully at Park Villa Nursing Home on Saturday, March 29, 2025. She was born on November 14, 1937 to Irvin and Mary (Dunphy) Hockman.

JoAnne grew up in Clyde and attended school there, graduating from Clyde High School in 1955. She went on to Marymount College earning her Registered Nurse certificate and then completed a BSN at Fort Hays State University in 1991.

She was a lifelong nurse, working at St. Joseph Hospital and then Cloud County Health Center after it changed hands. After retiring from CCHC she went on to work for Cloud County Community College assisting with nursing education, retiring in 2017.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Clyde, Catholic Daughters of America, and Association of Operating Room Nurses.

JoAnne doted on her grandchildren and loved attending their activities, traveling across the state to cheer them on. &nbsp;She also loved cheering for the K-State Wildcats.&nbsp;

She was involved in her community, giving of her time and talents. She served on numerous boards and committees before and after retirement.&nbsp;

JoAnne will be missed by her sons, Kurt Balthazor (Erin) of Pittsburg, KS and Bart Balthazor (Jean) of Valley Center, KS; grandchildren, Warren Balthazor, Claire (Isaac) Barnhart, Elliott Balthazor, Miles Balthazor, Evan (Mara) Balthazor, Connor Balthazor, and Ainsley Balthazor; two great grandchildren, Samuel Balthazor and Ruby Barnhart; and host of family and friends.

Craig Albin Liljegren died on March 27, 2025, at Bethany Home, Lindsborg KS. Craig was a property tax representative of 40+ yrs. He worked for the Rock Island, Texas Eastern, Farmland Industries, Northern Border, and retired in 2015 from ONEOK in Tulsa, OK.

Craig was born on June 26, 1947, in Fort Dodge Iowa. Son of Eunice and Leon Liljegren, he was baptized into Christ on August 31st, 1947 at Zion Lutheran Church in Gowery, IA. While still a very young child, Craig moved with his family to Goodland, KS, where his parents opened and operated a Dairy Queen and an A&amp;W there for many years.

Craig was confirmed on May 14, 1961, at Emmanual Lutheran Church in Goodland, KS. In 1965, Craig graduated from Sherman County High School (Goodland High School). During his senior year, Craig played center for the undefeated 1964-65 Champion Cowboys football team (Kansas Northwest League).

He went on to attend Bethany College, Lindsborg KS, and then transferred to Kansas State University, where he joined and lived as an active member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Craig enjoyed singing and met his wife, Jane, in the KSU University Choir. On August 8, 1969, Craig and Susan Jane Schulteis were united in marriage at Saint John’s Lutheran Church in Topeka KS. Craig went on to graduate from K-State in 1971.

Throughout his adult life, Craig served his community on various church boards and supported the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). He enjoyed being an adult leader for the Kansas City-based Heart of America Council (HOAC) and participated in the Tribe of MIC-O-SAY at H.Roe Bartle Scout Reservation in Osceola, MO. In 2000, Craig was awarded the Silver Beaver Award, the highest national recognition bestowed by any local council of the BSA. Craig encouraged both of his sons to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.

Craig enjoyed the art of craftsmanship, woodworking, fifties music, restoring his 1950 Willy’s Jeep, classic cars, and especially being around his family and grandchildren. Craig most recently was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Salina, KS, and the Lindsborg Kiwanis.

Craig is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jane of Lindsborg KS, and two sons Scott Liljegren of Carlsbad, CA, and Jeff Liljegren (Kerri) of Denver, CO. His five grandchildren Ryan and Claire of Carlsbad, CA, and Greta, Peter, and Henry of Denver,

CO, a sister Phyllis Liljegren-Newson, and brother Lonny Liljegren (Elizabeth) both of Lindsborg, KS.

Visitation will be April 10, from 5-7 PM at Crick-Christians Funeral Home, 103 N Washington St, Lindsborg, KS 67456.

Funeral services will be Friday, April 11, 10:00 AM, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 702 S Ninth Street, Salina KS. Interment, for the family, will be follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Topeka, KS.

Craig Albin Liljegren

On March 21, 2025, Dale (“Grizz”) Mitchell Eddy passed away peacefully at his Kansas City home at the age of 75.

Dale was born October 7, 1949, in Independence, KS to Jack V. and Evelyn (Cole) Eddy. He grew up in Las Vegas, NV where he started his Union Pacific Railroad career that spanned 42 years. The family moved to Salina, KS Dale’s senior year where he graduated from Salina High School. He was a long-time member of the Salina Bassmaster’s and you could usually find Dale at the lake fishing, camping, and boating with family and friends or in a Bass tournament. For many years, Dale enjoyed attending K-State football games with his great group of friends. Never one for formal wear, you would find him proudly cheering on his teams wearing K-State purple or KC Chiefs red.

Over the years, Dale enjoyed numerous hobbies from trapping to fishing to rebuilding a 46’ Chevy pickup. Throughout retirement, he and his wife of 48 years, Kathy, had beautiful gardens, and he enjoyed feeding the birds and taking care of his pets. Although you would often hear him saying that he didn’t want another *darn* cat, he loved all the family’s pets over the years, especially his favorite kitty, George, that followed Dale everywhere he went.

In addition to his wife Kathy (Townsend) Eddy, Dale is survived by his sons Duane and Darren, daughter Darcie (Henry) Eddy Malmgren, granddaughters Taylor (Dylan Lee) Eddy and Patience Eddy, and sisters Alice (Bill) Sears of Opal, WY and Barbara (Mike Hopper) Eddy-Disney of Goodland, KS. Dale was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Evelyn Eddy and brother Stanley W. Eddy.

Everywhere he went, Dale turned strangers into lifelong friends and understood the importance of living in the moment. Family and friends were deeply important to Dale and although he will be missed tremendously, we will fondly remember his easy smile and zest for life. Judith (Judy) Marcene Baker, age 85, passed away at Sunset Home in Concordia, Kansas, on March 29, 2025.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was born May 23, 1939, in her maternal grandparents’ home in rural Wakefield, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was the oldest of 6 children born to Harvey and Louise Davidson.

She attended Mt. Olive grade school and graduated from Clay County Community High School&nbsp;&nbsp;in 1957.&nbsp;&nbsp;Her activities included music and cheerleading.&nbsp;&nbsp;She graduated from Brown Mackie School of Business in Salina, and married Rolf Standage.&nbsp;&nbsp;Later they moved to Concordia where Brett and Jeff were born.&nbsp;&nbsp;She married Les Baker on October 5, 1968, at the First Methodist Church in Concordia.&nbsp;&nbsp;He later adopted both boys.&nbsp;&nbsp;She worked for Fidelity State Bank/Central Nation Bank for 42 years.

In addition to her great love of family, Judy enjoyed camping, riding motorcycles, gardening and endured many car shows with Les.&nbsp;

Judy is survived by her sons, Brett Baker, Jeff Baker and daughter-in-law Jodi (Trost) Baker, stepdaughter Rebecca Zeiher, brother Larry Davidson, sisters Deanna Hammond, Ila Bertrand and Brenda Heeren, 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Les Baker, and her brother Bryce Davidson.

Judith (Judy) Marcene 

Susan Rae Batson, 73, of Lindsborg, Kansas, and formerly of McPherson, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 27, 2025, surrounded by her loving family at Bethany Home in Lindsborg.

Born on January 8, 1952, in Hays, Kansas, Susan was the daughter of Aegedius P. “Curly” Brungardt and Jane H. (Wood) Hale Brungardt. She was a proud graduate of McPherson High School and lived a life defined by her deep love for her family and her unwavering work ethic.

Susan’s career spanned many years, beginning with her time at TG&amp;Y and Walmart in the cash room. She later became a Certified Medication Aide (CMA), providing compassionate care to the residents of Multi Community Diversified Services (MCDS) and Cedars Courts. Her devotion to her patients and their families left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered, and she cherished the relationships she built with her coworkers. She was a dedicated provider and worked tirelessly to support her children, never shying away from hard work.

A lifelong sports fan, Susan was especially passionate about her Kansas City Chiefs and the KU Jayhawk basketball team. She followed NASCAR closely, with a special fondness for the Hendrick team and driver Chase Elliott. On race days, she would always remind her son about the upcoming races, and during football games, she enjoyed texting her daughter during Chiefs’ touchdowns. Some of her most cherished memories were trips she took with her children—attending her first KU game in person and enjoying a live “Dancing with the Stars” show.

Throughout her life, Susan enjoyed a variety of hobbies. She loved cross-stitching and crocheting blankets, often making them for friends and family. She also found great joy in assembling jigsaw puzzles, especially with her granddaughter, with whom she shared countless hours of patience and love.

Susan’s love for animals was unparalleled. She adored her cats, including Socksie, Wrigley, Dipstick, Dottie, and Charlie, and cared for them deeply. Despite the heartache of losing them, she would always open her heart to a new furry companion. She developed a special fondness for giraffes and goats, regularly watching their antics on live cameras and visiting the Rolling Hills Zoo to see the giraffes. Susan’s love of animals extended to the goats she watched online, and she was known for gifting goat milk soap and lotion to friends and family.

Above all, Susan’s greatest joy in life was her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She raised her children with boundless love and dedication, always ensuring they had what they needed. She adored her grandchildren, Elizabeth, Austin, and Jeffery, and was particularly close to her great-granddaughters, Jayce, Inabelle, and Xzena. She was thrilled to have a great-granddaughter named after her and loved watching their cheerleading journeys and spending time with them whenever possible.

Susan was known for her unconditional love, as well as for her blunt honesty. She had a small, tight-knit circle of friends and family, but those who were close to her knew they had her unwavering support. Susan would do anything for the ones she loved, and she was always there to tell you exactly what she thought. Her legacy of love, loyalty, and hard work will forever be cherished by all who knew her.

Susan is survived by her children, Jeremy (Michelle) Batson and Jennifer (Jody) Keim; her grandchildren, Elizabeth Nichols, Austin Batson, and Jeffery Batson; her great-grandchildren, Jayce Taylor, Inabelle Taylor, and Xzena Taylor; her sister, Louise Busch; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Curly and Jane Brungardt, and her sisters, Lois Harder and Stevie Jones.

A graveside service will be held&nbsp;at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 21, 2025, at the McPherson Cemetery.

(Wood) Hale Brungardt. She was a proud graduate of McPherson High School and lived a life defined by her deep love for her family and her unwavering work ethic.Susan’s career spanned many years, beginning with her time at TG&amp;Y and Walmart in the cash room. She later became a Certified Medication Aide (CMA), providing compassionate care to the residents of Multi Community Diversified Services (MCDS) and Cedars Courts. Her devotion to her patients and their families left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered, and she cherished the relationships she built with her coworkers. She was a dedicated provider and worked tirelessly to support her children, never shying away from hard work.A lifelong sports fan, Susan was especially passionate about her Kansas City Chiefs and the KU Jayhawk basketball team. She followed NASCAR closely, with a special fondness for the Hendrick team and driver Chase Elliott. On race days, she would always remind her son about the upcoming races, and during football games, she enjoyed texting her daughter during Chiefs’ touchdowns. Some of her most cherished memories were trips she took with her children—attending her first KU game in person and enjoying a live “Dancing with the Stars” show.Throughout her life, Susan enjoyed a variety of hobbies. She loved cross-stitching and crocheting blankets, often making them for friends and family. She also found great joy in assembling jigsaw puzzles, especially with her granddaughter, with whom she shared countless hours of patience and love.Susan’s love for animals was unparalleled. She adored her cats, including Socksie, Wrigley, Dipstick, Dottie, and Charlie, and cared for them deeply. Despite the heartache of losing them, she would always open her heart to a new furry companion. She developed a special fondness for giraffes and goats, regularly watching their antics on live cameras and visiting the Rolling Hills Zoo to see the giraffes. Susan’s love of animals extended to the goats she watched online, and she was known for gifting goat milk soap and lotion to friends and family.Above all, Susan’s greatest joy in life was her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She raised her children with boundless love and dedication, always ensuring they had what they needed. She adored her grandchildren, Elizabeth, Austin, and Jeffery, and was particularly close to her great-granddaughters, Jayce, Inabelle, and Xzena. Kathleen Kay Arbogast, cherished homemaker and beloved family matriarch, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on October 25, 1941, Kathleen was a woman of great spirit and warmth, whose life was filled with love for her family and friends.

Kathleen's dedication to her family was evident in all that she did. She found joy in simple pleasures, such as camping trips and creating delicious pancakes for her grandchildren, who revered her for her nurturing nature. Her love for dogs and her delightful collection of bells mirrored her vivacious personality, bringing a sense of joy and comfort to all who knew her.

Kathleen shared a deep bond with her husband of 64 years, Jack, with whom she worked side by side in supporting their community through the Meals on Wheels program. Together, they exemplified commitment and compassion, making a positive impact on those they served.

Her legacy lives on through her loving family: her husband Jack, sons Tim (Kim) Arbogast of Kearney, NE; Oran Arbogast of Wood River, NE; Kent Arbogast of Wood River, NE; and Tom Arbogast of Wood River, NE; as well as her beloved grandchildren, Ryan, Heather, and Nick Arbogast. Theora Jean Hoover was born March 18th, 1943 in Salina, Kansas to Ted and Mary (Brennaman) Heck. She passed over into Heaven on March 29th, 2025 in Salina, Kansas at the age of 82.Theora attended school in Salina and Culver, Kansas, graduating from Salina Central in 1961.Theora met Gerald Eldon Hoover on November 18, 1957 and started going “steady” on December 1st, 1957. They got married May 27th, 1961.They made their home in Salina, and began building a family with the birth of their daughter, Lori, on July 23, 1962, and adding a son on August 23, 1966 to complete their family.Following high school, Theora worked as a nurse's aide at St. John’s Hospital. She later transferred to Asbury Hospital as a surgical tech where she worked for 32 years. In 1992 she retired and helped start a cinnamon roasted nut business with Gerald, Tom, and Jean Isaacson.In her free time, she enjoyed going to the casino, playing BINGO, and spending time with family and friends.

Norman William "Bill" Hipple, 100, was born July 18, 1924, in Barnard, to William and Blanche Cummings Hipple. He died at his home in Hutchinson on Sunday, March 30, 2025.Bill was a senior at Lincoln High School when America entered World War II. Upon turning 18 in July, he enlisted and was inducted into the Navy. Following basic training he was assigned to a new aircraft carrier, the Shipley Bay, which was deployed to the South Pacific.&nbsp;Following his discharge in 1946, Bill returned to Lincoln. Using the skills he learned from his father, he was a small construction contractor in Lincoln for many years.He was united in marriage with Drene Herman of Lincoln on September 8, 1950. In 1983 they moved to Hutchinson where Drene passed away in 2006.Bill had his Navy stories which he enjoyed telling to all who would listen. An entertaining storyteller, he was always ready to mix his service history with humor. As the owner of a small private plane, Bill loved to fly in his younger years.While in Hutchinson, Bill and Drene joined the Countryside Baptist Church. They both received Christ and were baptized in 1996.Other family members preceding him in death include three brothers, Lew, Carl, and Jack; and three sisters, Willmetta Stogehill, Marjorie Drageus, and Eloise Wilson.Bill is survived by his nephew, John Wilson, and his wife, Mary of Minneapolis.Graveside services with Naval military honors will be held&nbsp;at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, April 7, at the Lincoln Cemetery.

Sister Vivian Boucher died March 29, 2025, at Nazareth Motherhouse in Concordia, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was 94 years old and a Sister of St. Joseph for 78 years.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was born in Zurich, KS, on February 19, 1931, to Hector and Cecelia Gagnon Boucher, the fourth of ten children, and was baptized Rita Marie.&nbsp;&nbsp;She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia, KS on September 8, 1946.&nbsp;&nbsp;On March 18, 1947, Rita Marie received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister Vivian.&nbsp;&nbsp;She pronounced first vows on March 19, 1948 and final vows on February 19, 1952.

In 1965 Sister Vivian Boucher graduated from Marymount College, Salina, with a A.B. degree in math followed by a M.A. in 1982 in Administration from College of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN.&nbsp;&nbsp;She taught and was principal in institutions staffed by the Sisters of St. Joseph in New Almelo, Concordia, Plainville, Junction City, Beloit, Leawood and Hanover, KS; Chicago, IL; Grand Island, NE; Glasgow, MO and Papillion, NE.&nbsp;&nbsp;In 2007 Sister Vivian retired from teaching but continued to live in Papillion, NE.&nbsp;&nbsp;Sister Vivian moved to the Motherhouse in 2021.

Sister Vivian Boucher

Clinton Ray Logan passed away unexpectedly Saturday, March 22, 2025. He was born July 29, 1961 in Belleville, Kansas, to Alice J. and Kenneth R. Logan. Clint was a graduate of Scandia High School in 1979, Scandia, KS, and a graduate of Kansas Wesleyan University in 1983.&nbsp;

One thing his family remembers most about Clint was that he was a hard worker and took great pride in every single thing he did. He loved to be up and moving and working with his hands. He could never stomach an office job so he accordingly worked at an old print shop in Salina as a copy repairman and day to day store employee after college. After that, he spent the majority of his career as the head of the beer department at Brooks Liquor in Salina stocking shelves dressed to the nines, how he thought everyone should dress for work.&nbsp;

Working hard at his job was important to him, but he always said the best thing he ever did was to raise his family.&nbsp; Not many knew Clint, or really knew him. He lived a quiet and hidden life really only known to his immediate family. It was a life of love, sacrifice, and virtue, instilling it to those nearest to him through his words and most importantly his example.&nbsp;

In his family time he loved playing cards, going on walks, reading in any spare time, watching clips of movies or listening to music, having bubble blowing competitions with his daughter, and just sitting and being. He lived his life by the phrase “less is more” and was captivated by the simple things in life. His weird kitchen creations and late night wanderings will be deeply missed.

Although he never belonged to a church he was a good and faithful servant of God and was known for smiling and saying “It’s going to be a great day; God made it!”. He always said we have been gifted a short time here on this garden and we have to make the most of it.

Clint is survived by his wife of 25 years, Teresa Logan of their home in Salina, and his daughter, Robyn Logan of Manhattan, KS, and two sisters: Lora Wiruth of Cuba, KS, and Cynthia Meehan of Titusville, FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alice and Kenneth Logan.&nbsp;

A Rosary Service will be held Sunday March 30th at 7:30pm at the St. Mary’s Queen of the Universe Catholic Church in Salina, KS. Family will greet friends after in the gathering area.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, March 31st at 10:30am at St. Mary’s Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, with Fr. Kevin Weber officiating. A meal will follow in the parish hall. The burial will be Tuesday, April 1st at 10:00am at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery in Wilson, KS.

 </figure>Clinton Ray Logan passed away unexpectedly Saturday, March 22, 2025. He was born July 29, 1961 in Belleville, Kansas, to Alice J. and Kenneth R. Logan. Clint was a graduate of Scandia High School in 1979, Scandia, KS, and a graduate of Kansas Wesleyan University in 1983.&nbsp;One thing his family remembers most about Clint was that he was a hard worker and took great pride in every single thing he did. He loved to be up and moving and working with his hands. He could never stomach an office job so he accordingly worked at an old print shop in Salina as a copy repairman and day to day store employee after college. After that, he spent the majority of his career as the head of the beer department at Brooks Liquor in Salina stocking shelves dressed to the nines, how he thought everyone should dress for work.&nbsp;Working hard at his job was important to him, but he always said the best thing he ever did was to raise his family.&nbsp; Not many knew Clint, or really knew him. He lived a quiet and hidden life really only known to his immediate family. It was a life of love, sacrifice, and virtue, instilling it to those nearest to him through his words and most importantly his example.&nbsp;In his family time he loved playing cards, going on walks, reading in any spare time, watching clips of movies or listening to music, having bubble blowing competitions with his daughter, and just sitting and being. He lived his life by the phrase “less is more” and was captivated by the simple things in life. His weird kitchen creations and late night wanderings will be deeply missed.Although he never belonged to a church he was a good and faithful servant of God and was known for smiling and saying “It’s going to be a great day; God made it!”. He always said we have been gifted a short time here on this garden and we have to make the most of it.Clint is survived by his wife of 25 years, Teresa Logan of their home in Salina, and his daughter, Robyn Logan of Manhattan, KS, and two sisters: Lora Wiruth of Cuba, KS, and Cynthia Meehan of Titusville, FL.He was preceded in death by his parents, Alice and Kenneth Logan.&nbsp;A Rosary Service will be held Sunday March 30th at 7:30pm at the St. Mary’s Queen of the Universe Catholic Church in Salina, KS. Family will greet friends after in the gathering area.Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, March 31st at 10:30am at St. Mary’s Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, with Fr. Kevin Weber officiating. A meal will follow in the parish hall. The burial will be Tuesday, April 1st at 10:00am at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery in Wilson, KS.Memorial contributions may be left to Love and Learn Daycare of St. Mary’s Queen of the Universe Church and St. Jude Children’s Hospital, in care of Ryan Mortuary, Salina.

Clinton Ray Logan

Dr. C. Richard Friedley, D.D.S., 98, of McPherson, Kansas, went to be with the Lord at 8:27 pm, March 27, 2025, while in the arms of his daughters at his home.

Charles Richard Friedley was the son of the late James and Mae (Snyder) Friedley and was born September 8, 1926, in Hillsdale, Pennsylvania. He was one of seven children born to this union: four daughters and three sons, LaRue, Richard, Nadine, Walter, Marjorie, Wayne and Berniece. He attended grade school in Hillsdale and high school in Cincinnati, Ohio.

On June 8, 1949, Richard was united in marriage to Pauline “Polly” Ruth (Colberg) in Chase, Kansas. This union was blessed with five daughters: Joy, Connie, Patricia, Sandra, and Tara.

Richard served three years in the Army with the 82nd&nbsp;Airborne as a paratrooper during World War II, and then two years during the Korean War. He attended the University of Cincinnati until transferring to McPherson College in 1949. He graduated in 1952, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree.

From 1952-1955, Richard had the opportunity to build several homes in Lyons and McPherson. In 1955, Richard and his family moved to Raytown, Missouri, so that he could attend school at the University of Missouri Kansas City (UMKC) where he graduated in 1959 with the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery. During that time, he received another Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Missouri.

From 1959-1961, Richard served on the faculty of UMKC School of Dentistry and as a staﬀ member of the Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. He was in private practice for 32 years in Raytown, Missouri.

Richard always had an interest in farming since he was a young boy. In 1971, he was able to fulfill that interest when he purchased land in central Kansas and farmed it for 50 years.

Richard committed his life to the Lord at age 22. He was a devoted Christian, loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. His life long mission was to follow Jesus and His direction in his life. His deepest desire was for all members of his family to know Jesus as their personal Savior and one day be reunited together in Heaven. His family was his happiness and joy.

Surviving family members include his daughters, Joy Boldt of Florida, Pat Boldt and her husband, Kennard, of McPherson, Kansas, Sandra Wagner of McPherson, Kansas, and Tara Kleinschmidt of McPherson, Kansas; his daughter-in-law, Jackie Oglesby of Buhler, Kansas; his 11 grandchildren: Glenn Boldt, Javon Boldt, Janette Hand and her husband, Gene, Nicholas Ogelsby and his wife, Kari, Christina Young and her husband, Yancy, Rachel Branam and her husband, Nick, Sarah Boldt, Kendra Emery and her husband, Tyler, Aubree Behm and her husband, Nick, Larissa Lucero and her husband, Nathan, and Shiloh Risetter and her wife, Megan; three step-grandchildren, Anthony, Loren, and C.W. Kleinschmidt; his 24 great-grandchildren: Violet Oglesby; Lincoln, Abel, Genevieve, Shepherd, Guinevere, Sebastin, Callahan, Hildegard, and McCoy Young; Isaac, Collin, Adah, and Alayna Branam; Jonas, Megan, Lydia, and Grace Emery; Remmington, Arabelle, and Liberty Behm; Rhema Lucero; Wrenley and Hendrix Risetter; 5 step-great-grandchildren: Eli, Emmitt, Magnolia, Rylee, and Emmirelle Kleinschmidt; many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.
