Gordon Everett Walle, 80, of Culver, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2020. Gordon entered into this world on December 10th, 1939 and grew up in the Culver and Salina communities. Gordon graduated from Culver High School in 1957 and married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Cramton on December 28, 1958. He played football for and graduated from Kansas Wesleyan University in 1962 with a degree in economics and remained an active alumni throughout his life. Gordon grew into farming and ranching with his brother Gale, who own in partnership, Walle Brothers Inc. Gordon and Gale established and ran a dairy farm for close to 40 years. He served on the board for Mid-America Dairy for 30 years of his life. Gordon was clothing manager for J.P. Roth and Sons Clothiers for many years. He also managed Borck Brothers Clothing Store in Salina. Gordon embodied the true spirit of grit and determination throughout his life.

Surviving family includes his wife of 61 years, Barbara; daughter, Debra; son, Joseph; brother, Gale; grandchildren, Jacob, Samantha, Gabrielle, and Jessica; great-grandchildren, Willow, Emery, and Harrison. Gordon is preceded in death by his two sons, Jeffrey and Jay and his parents, Opal and William.

A visitation will be held Thursday, November 5th from 4 to 8 p.m. at Ryan Mortuary, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. A funeral service to celebrate Gordonâ€™s life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, November 6th at Ryan Mortuary. The family will meet privately for the graveside services.

Kathryn L (Briscoe) Miller, 96, of Goddard, Kansas, passed away, Monday, November 2, 2020. She was born and raised in Lincoln County, Kansas, working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. as an operator after high school. She married Vernon S Miller in May 1946 and they moved to Salina, Kansas in 1954, where she lived for 60 years. In May 2014, she moved to Goddard, to be close to family.

She worked for the Salina Public School District, as a baker at Salina Central High School for more than ten years and then returned to work for SWBT and retired in 1981. She loved to travel, garden, bake, sew and quilt. She was involved at the Salina Senior Center for many years and was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1432 Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and B. Lillian Briscoe, her husband of 42 years, Vernon and her son-in-law Billy Honse.

She is survived by her daughter Brenda, grandsons Eric (Katelyn) and Loren (Mariah,) four great grandchildren, Bear, Evie, Corbin and Rome and her nieces and nephews.

There will be a graveside service Friday, November 6, 2020 at Roselawn Memorial Park, Salina at 1 p.m.

Paul Train, age 77 of Lindsborg, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 1st, 2020. Paul is survived by his loving wife Sally of 33 years, his brothers Donovan and Sam, his children Vicki, Kevin, Diane, Richea, and Jordy, grandchildren Katrina, Nathan, Alex, Braxton, and

Maxxum, and one great grandchild, Elidia. He is predeceased by his parents and his son, Drew.

Paul was born on May 31, 1943 in Lindsborg, Kansas to Emory and Marjorie Train. Paul worked as a farmer and cattleman for the majority of his life. In retirement, Paul was the main caretaker for the Elmwood cemetery in Lindsborg for more than 10 years. Paul was always known as a hard and devoted worker through many channels.

Paul was also a deeply devoted Christian man who loved his family and the entertaining adventures he and Sally had together. Paul loved to listen to hymns, one of his latest favorites being “How Great Thou Art” rendition by George Beverly Shea. Paul was a gentle, kind loving soul who made great, lasting impressions on everyone he met and enjoyed all the new relationships he made throughout his life.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to all of the medical workers and friends that showed such respect and care for Paul as he battled with health issues.

He will be buried at the Elmwood Cemetery on Tuesday, November 3rd, at 10:30am. When times are easier, and larger gatherings can happen again, a celebration of Paul’s life will be announced.

Through the years Ed worked for Miller Testing Company as a Oil Field Tester, Great Bend, Kansas, Thunderbird Drilling as a Tool Pusher, Wichita, Kansas. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in McPherson. He served in the U.S. Army. Ed enjoyed being outdoors, was a avid golfer, traveling in his RV, riding his motorcycle, spoiling his miniature Schnauzers and spending time with his friends and family. Ed was united in marriage to Catherine Hofenstine in Lyons, Kansas. This union was blessed with the birth of two children, a son and daughter, Michael and Susan.Then Ed was united in marriage to Jackie Gross in Las Vegas, Nevada. This union added a step-son and step-daughter, Pete and Cheri.. He was a retired industrial electrical &amp; mechanical maintenance technician. He was born on July 6, 1951, in Rolette, ND, the son of Ronald Dale and Cecilia Barbara (Hager) Smith. David graduated from Lead High School (Lead, SD) in 1969. David served in the United States Navy from 1971 to 1977. Serving on the USS Enterprise, he was a nuclear propulsion plant operator and machinist mate. David was united in marriage to Deborah Alexander on March 26, 1977. This union was blessed with two daughters, Deanna and Danielle. On September 6, 1997, he married Sharon L. (Keehn) Baughman in Golden, CO. He attended Garden Community Church in Moundridge, KS. David “Dave” A. Smith

Libby Dawn Johnson, age 63, of Manhattan, Kansas, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on October 31, 2020.&nbsp;

She was born December 2, 1956 to David and Margaret McClain Holt at Harrison, Arkansas. &nbsp;Libby married Donald Johnson on November 2, 1996 and resided in Dwight, KS until 2014. They moved to El Paso, TX for 4 years and currently in Manhattan.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in El Paso, TX. Libby had a heart for volunteer work. One of the favorites was being youth leader at Council Grove First Baptist Church for many years with husband, Donald. She was also a mentor for the CGHS Mentor Program.

Libby had a love for gardening and could grow most anything. She could bake the best apple pie as well many other delicious things including decorating cakes for special occasions. She was an avid collector of tea pots. Libby lived to take care of others always making sure everyone else came before herself.

Even though Libby had more than one serious medical condition she never complained. She would often push herself too hard because it needed to done or she wanted to do for others. She loved being a wife, mother and grandmother….the grandchildren were very special to her. Libby had a passion for church and to God.

Libby was preceded in death by her father.&nbsp; She is survived by her husband Don; mother Margaret Gray, Harrison, AR; daughters Heather Seymour (Mike), Council Grove, and Jessi Sprague (Jesse),Kingston Mo; sons Dustin Creager, Lead Hill, AR and Tyler Johnson (Shawna), Junction City; brother David Holt, Harrison, AR; 7 grandchildren: David and Hannah Seymour; Annallia Johnson; Jace, Logan, Avalyn, and Isabelle Sprague; and a host of friends.

A memorial service celebrating Libby’s life will be held at 2:00pm, Sat, November 7th, at Canning Creek Cove at the Council Grove Reservoir. Masks are required.  </figure>Libby Dawn Johnson, age 63, of Manhattan, Kansas, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on October 31, 2020.&nbsp;She was born December 2, 1956 to David and Margaret McClain Holt at Harrison, Arkansas. &nbsp;Libby married Donald Johnson on November 2, 1996 and resided in Dwight, KS until 2014. They moved to El Paso, TX for 4 years and currently in Manhattan.She was a member of the First Baptist Church in El Paso, TX. Libby had a heart for volunteer work. One of the favorites was being youth leader at Council Grove First Baptist Church for many years with husband, Donald. She was also a mentor for the CGHS Mentor Program.Libby had a love for gardening and could grow most anything. She could bake the best apple pie as well many other delicious things including decorating cakes for special occasions. She was an avid collector of tea pots. Libby lived to take care of others always making sure everyone else came before herself.Even though Libby had more than one serious medical condition she never complained. She would often push herself too hard because it needed to done or she wanted to do for others. She loved being a wife, mother and grandmother….the grandchildren were very special to her. Libby had a passion for church and to God.Libby was preceded in death by her father.&nbsp; She is survived by her husband Don; mother Margaret Gray, Harrison, AR; daughters Heather Seymour (Mike), Council Grove, and Jessi Sprague (Jesse),Kingston Mo; sons Dustin Creager, Lead Hill, AR and Tyler Johnson (Shawna), Junction City; brother David Holt, Harrison, AR; 7 grandchildren: David and Hannah Seymour; Annallia Johnson; Jace, Logan, Avalyn, and Isabelle Sprague; and a host of friends.A memorial service celebrating Libby’s life will be held at 2:00pm, Sat, November 7th, at Canning Creek Cove at the Council Grove Reservoir. Patrick Lenn Green

Gertrude's life began on May 16, 1921 in Oil Hill, KS.  She was the daughter of Martin J. and Lula (Cullins) Waner. 

 She was united in marriage to Robert A Mahoney in Grand Island, NE in May of 1958. 

 Gertrude was a registered nurse, trained at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.  She worked for several doctors' offices in Nebraska and as a school nurse, camp nurse and private care nursing in her home. 

 Gertrude was an incredibly faithful Catholic.  She was a parishioner at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Newton.  She was a member of the Legion of Mary and prayed the Rosary many times a day. 

 Gertrude enjoyed visiting the nursing homes and praying with the residents in Newton. 

 Her loving family includes her niece Lucy "Lee" (Larry) Schwart of Marion and many dear friends. 

 Gertrude passed away on October 26, 2020 at the Newton Medical Center. 

 She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert and many dear relatives.  

Her family will gather with friends on Friday from 9:30 to 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Newton.  Her Rosary service will be held at 10 a.m. at the church, followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. led by Father Max Biltz.  Gertrude will be laid to rest in Mt. Wendell Keith Whitneyof rural Saline County went to join Annie, his beloved wife of 70 years, in the Kingdom of Heaven on Friday, October 23, 2020. Keith was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Ina, of Miltonvale.

Keith is survived by his daughter, Judy Alink, his son, Kenneth (Pam) Whitney, his chosen children Joel and Jeri Wimer, four grandchildren: Brian (Danica) Alink, Emily (Craig) Alink Batchelor, Cody (Morgan) Whitney, Chris (Minuet) Whitney; three chosen grandchildren, Matthew (Abby) Wimer, Michael (Ryley) Wimer, and Melissa (Michael) Wimer Haverfield. He was the loving great-grandfather to fourteen.

Dr. W. Keith Whitney was a PhD Research Entomologist. Keith taught all through his Bachelor, Masters, and PhD tenure at K-State. He then went on to do Research and Grain Insect Treatment for Dow Chemical, Cyanamid, and Pfizer in numerous foreign countries, mostly concentrated in Africa.

Keith passed on from this life and all its physical difficulties surrounded by loved ones at home. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Sally J. Enfield, formerly of Hutchinson and Kansas City, passed away at her home in Salina, Kansas on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2020, one day short of her birthday. She was born Oct. 28, 1947 in Hutchinson, Kansas to Charlie Franklin and Katharine Buena Vista (Ebersoie) Enfield. Sally graduated in 1965 from Hutchinson High School, in 1967 from Hutchinson Community College, and in 1969 from K-State. She also attended Fort Hays University, University of Kansas, University of Missouri and Nazarene Theological Seminary. She worked for both the Hutchinson News and Olathe News. She taught journalism for one year at Pratt High School. She also worked for Hallmark, AT&amp;T, and Sprint. Sally owned the Enfield Allstate Insurance and Financial Services in Overland Park and later moved the office to Salina. She left Allstate when she became the caregiver for her mother.

While in high school Sally attended Girls State and National Girl Scout Camp. As a Girl Scout she earned the God and Community Award. She was raised in and belonged to the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Hutchinson and attended in Kansas City.

Hospice of Salina tended to Sally at her home during the last weeks of her two-year fight with cancer and two rare auto-immune diseases.

She is survived by her two sisters: Janet Enfield, Salina and Joyce Morris, Arkansas City- She is also survived by nephews: Randy (Debbie) Wilson, Arkansas City, and Charlie Ill (Sondra) Enfield, Hutchinson; and nieces, Janis (Kevin) Hickman, Kansas City; Kaye Richmond, Hutchinson; Kimberly Carnes, Colorado; and Mary (Greg) Lay, Florida. Preceding her in death are her parents; brother and sister-in-law, Charlie and Beverly Enfield; niece, Diana May; nephews, Michael Enfield and Dwight Wilson; and two great nieces, Jill May and Giny May.

Cremation has taken place. Sally requested there not be a funeral. Burial will be at a later date in Hutchinson's Memorial Park Cemetery where she will be buried beside her mother.

Sally J. Enfield

&nbsp; Lola Ann Franek, 77, of Glasco, Kansas, passed away Friday, October 30th, 2020, in Beloit, Kansas. Lola was born March 13, 1943, in Greybull, Wyoming to Elsie (Plummer) Stryker and Wayne Kaufman. Lola dropped out of high school at the age of 16, only to return later and obtain her GED. Lola married the love of her life, the late Thomas Franek on September 13, 1969. Lola, who loved children, drove a school bus for the Poudre School District, in Fort Collins, Colorado for several years, then returned to school in 1980 to obtain a Licensed Practical Nursing Degree and then her Registered Nursing License, all while being a working mother of six school aged children. During her long-devoted career as a Licensed Practical Nurse and Registered Nurse, Lola worked for Dr. James D. Hites at his family practice in Fort Collins, Colorado until his retirement. Lola then began working as a traveling Director of Nursing for Long Term Care Centers throughout Colorado and Kansas for several years before transitioning back to acute care and emergency room care in Colorado. Upon her husband's retirement, they relocated to Larned, Kansas, and she began working at the now closed Central Kansas Medical Center. They later moved to Glasco, Kansas, and she began working at Salina Regional Medical Center as an ER nurse. During her devoted nursing career, Lola influenced and touched many lives earning her the nickname "Betty Band aide", which her family and friends lovingly referred to her as. In the final years of her career, Lola was an instructor at North Central Kansas Technical College, Beloit, Kansas in the LPN program helping mold new confident nurses while also teaching CNA classes in the surrounding area before retiring in 2018. Survivors include children, Lyle Franek of Anchorage, Alaska, Kandi Smith of Loveland, Colorado, Dale (Pam) Franek of Fort Collins, Colorado, Kristi (David) Fordham of Glasco, Kansas, Thomas M. (Lori) Franek II of Beloit, Kansas, and Dusten (Kelly) Crichton of Omaha, Nebraska; siblings, Freida Augustine of Cawker City, Kansas; as well as 14 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas Franek of 44 years; sister, Elizabeth Cunningham; brother, Loren Kaufman; daughter, Kethilynne Innis. Cremation has been chosen and no funeral services are planned, however a celebration of life event will be held Saturday, November 7th at 3 pm at the Zion Lutheran Church, 621 N. Mill St, Beloit, Kansas. Lola dedicated most of her life to nursing and teaching. Ronald Dean Kolle

Wesley John Turner of Quinter departed this world to be with his Lord &amp; Savior on October 16, 2020, at the age of 83, due to complications of Covid-19 after a short stay at the Gove County LTC.

Wes was born July 30, 1937 on a farm in rural Quinter, KS to Lee Marlin and Della Kathryn (Long) Turner. He attended Bloomfield Country School through 8th grade, graduated from Quinter High School in 1955, and went on to attend Fort Hays State University for two years before moving back to Quinter with his wife and children to raise his family.

He married his high school sweetheart Loretta Phlieger, also of Quinter, on September 24, 1955 at St. Michael’s Church in Collyer, KS. They celebrated 65 wonderful years of marriage in September.&nbsp; Wes and Loretta owned and operated Turner’s Locker at 4th and Main for over 20 years, from the early 1960's to the late 1980’s. Wes was also a volunteer fireman and one of the eight original founders of the Quinter Ambulance Service in 1973.

Wes and Loretta joined Amway in 1977. They travelled extensively around the country as they built their new business and made many new friends along the way. In May 2001 they travelled to Odessa, Ukraine to visit the Black Sea villages of Loretta’s German ancestors, as well as touring through parts of Germany, France, Austria, and Italy.

Wes loved flying and earned his pilot’s license in the 1960’s. He enjoyed taking his children on short trips and flew occasionally to Arizona to visit friends and family. His outgoing, gregarious nature made him a popular visitor as he traveled throughout Western Kansas as an independent operator of the “Sausage Man” business.

Wes loved his family selflessly. He never met a stranger. He loved gardening, tinkering in his shop, and most of all music. As a child he grew up in a musical family in a time before television when church, hard work, visiting neighbors and music were the core of family life. He played numerous instruments, notably banjo, mandolin, ukulele, and guitar. All of his children were in the QHS band.

He is survived by his wife Loretta and seven children: Terry of Parker, CO, Kristy Gerhardt and husband Randy of Salina, KS, Karla Murray and husband Rick of Goodland, KS, Wayne of Tampa, FL, Tom of Aurora, CO, Steve and Rinnie of San Francisco, CA,&nbsp; Levi and wife Debra from Iola, TX; 5 grandchildren: Cassie Murray, Hailey Murray, Meghan Turner, Michael Turner, and Brogan Turner; and six great-grandchildren: Jayden, Brinley, Presley, Emberley, Ryker, and Brylee Jo. He is also survived by brother Max and wife Gladys of Burlington, KS; sister Louise Hisey of Colorado Springs, CO; as well as many nieces and nephews who dearly loved him. He was preceded in death by parents Lee and Della, sister Twila Yowell, and brother Roland.

His nephew Ray had this to say: “Wes’ laugh was infectious. His enthusiasm for music was endearing. His humility was his strength. His love for his family was evident. Wes was a good man.”

At this time, a private family service will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Collyer, KS. with Fr. Charlie Steier as Celebrant. Graveside services are open to all and will be held at St. Michael’s Cemetery at 11:30 am, Saturday, November 7, 2020.

 </figure>Wesley John Turner of Quinter departed this world to be with his Lord &amp; Savior on October 16, 2020, at the age of 83, due to complications of Covid-19 after a short stay at the Gove County LTC.Wes was born July 30, 1937 on a farm in rural Quinter, KS to Lee Marlin and Della Kathryn (Long) Turner. He attended Bloomfield Country School through 8th grade, graduated from Quinter High School in 1955, and went on to attend Fort Hays State University for two years before moving back to Quinter with his wife and children to raise his family.He married his high school sweetheart Loretta Phlieger, also of Quinter, on September 24, 1955 at St. Michael’s Church in Collyer, KS. They celebrated 65 wonderful years of marriage in September.&nbsp; Wes and Loretta owned and operated Turner’s Locker at 4th and Main for over 20 years, from the early 1960's to the late 1980’s. Wes was also a volunteer fireman and one of the eight original founders of the Quinter Ambulance Service in 1973.Wes and Loretta joined Amway in 1977. They travelled extensively around the country as they built their new business and made many new friends along the way. In May 2001 they travelled to Odessa, Ukraine to visit the Black Sea villages of Loretta’s German ancestors, as well as touring through parts of Germany, France, Austria, and Italy.Wes loved flying and earned his pilot’s license in the 1960’s. He enjoyed taking his children on short trips and flew occasionally to Arizona to visit friends and family. His outgoing, gregarious nature made him a popular visitor as he traveled throughout Western Kansas as an independent operator of the “Sausage Man” business.Wes loved his family selflessly. He never met a stranger. He loved gardening, tinkering in his shop, and most of all music. As a child he grew up in a musical family in a time before television when church, hard work, visiting neighbors and music were the core of family life. He played numerous instruments, notably banjo, mandolin, ukulele, and guitar. All of his children were in the QHS band.He is survived by his wife Loretta and seven children: Terry of Parker, CO, Kristy Gerhardt and husband Randy of Salina, KS, Karla Murray and husband Rick of Goodland, KS, Wayne of Tampa, FL, Tom of Aurora, CO, Steve and Rinnie of San Francisco, CA,&nbsp; Levi and wife Debra from Iola, TX; 5 grandchildren: Cassie Murray, Hailey Murray, Meghan Turner, Michael Turner, and Brogan Turner; and six great-grandchildren: Jayden, Brinley, Presley, Emberley, Ryker, and Brylee Jo. He is also survived by brother Max and wife Gladys of Burlington, KS; sister Louise Hisey of Colorado Springs, CO; as well as many nieces and nephews who dearly loved him. He was preceded in death by parents Lee and Della, sister Twila Yowell, and brother Roland.His nephew Ray had this to say: “Wes’ laugh was infectious. His enthusiasm for music was endearing. His humility was his strength. His love for his family was evident. Wes was a good man.”At this time, a private family service will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Collyer, KS. with Fr. Charlie Steier as Celebrant. Eva Loree Holaday passed away at the age of 94 at the Gove County Medical Center Long Term Care in Quinter, Kansas. She was born on September 28, 1926, on the farm in Sheridan County just north of the Saline River. She was the oldest child of George Earl and Mary (Hargitt) Maxwell. At the age of 5, she moved with her family to Weskan, Ransom then to Wallace, Kansas, and in 1935 they moved to the Maxwell home place north of Quinter.&nbsp;

She attended 1st grade in Weskan, 2nd and 3rd grade at Deines Rural School. She graduated from Quinter High School and Fort Hays State University.&nbsp;Loree was an elementary teacher for 13 years. She loved and was a friend of children all her life.&nbsp;

She married Raymond Holaday on August 13, 1959, and was a loving farmer’s wife and mother of Richard Holaday (Nyla), Oakley, James Holaday, Grinnell, Raymond Holaday (significant other Becky Butts), Grinnell, and Thomas Holaday (Patty), Garfield; Doris Sullivan (Paul), Memphis, TN.&nbsp;

She was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, the Gove Settlers F.C.E, and served on the Gove County American Cancer Board and Gove County 4H Council.&nbsp;

Loree is survived by brothers, Gordon Maxwell (Evelyn), Salina, Laverne Maxwell (Marlene), Quinter: sisters Anita Bray (William), Hawthorne, NV, and Luella Hadland, Dawson Creek, BC; grandchildren, Ricky Holaday (Andrea), Amanda Brown (Wilbert), Roxanne Head, Christina Blain (Derek) Rebecca Day, Heather Holaday (Jacob), Kaleb Holaday, Nicole Holaday; 9 great-grandchildren and 2 on the way; many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond on April 5, 2001, her parents Earl and Mary Maxwell, brother Leonard Maxwell and sister Mary Louise Sorenson.&nbsp;

Due to the current pandemic, a private, immediate family graveside service will be observed at the Grinnell Township Cemetery.&nbsp;

A celebration of life will be determined at a convenient date in the future yet to be announced.&nbsp;

Sharon K. Holcom, 77, of Salina, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2020. She was born September 23, 1943, in Council Grove, Kansas to Anthony Joseph and Hazel Grace (Drake) Eisenhauer. She married Virgil G. Holcom on February 4, 1961, in Salina.

Survivors include her children, Sandy Wilson (Rick), of Salina, Dennis Holcom (Terri), of Cumming, GA; grandchildren, Zack Wilson, Daniel Wilson (Sarah), and Emma Holcom; and great-granddaughter, Josie Wilson.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Virgil; siblings, Ed Eisenhauer, Ike Eisenhauer, Harry Eisenhauer, Zelda Blair, Ruth Young, Doris Franklin, and Mary Holcom.

A private graveside will be 2 p.m. Friday, November 6, 2020 at Gypsum Cemetery, in Gypsum, Kansas.

E. Nadine DuMars, 92, of Lindsborg passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at Lindsborg Community Hospital.  Nadine was born November 26, 1927 in Gate, OK to the late Herschel and Bertha (Arnett) Smith.  She married Aaron DuMars on October 1, 1950 in Wichita, KS.  

Nadine was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, in Lindsborg.  She was always active in church activities and sat on several church boards.  Nadine owned and operated several small businesses over the years.  She was also very active in the community.  She had been a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Jonathan Club.  Nadine was also a member of the Lindsborg Community Hospital Auxiliary, volunteered and sat on the board of the Lindsborg Senior Center, and was on the Area Agency for Aging regional board.  

She is survived by her daughters: Pam Frost (Dave) of Salina, KS, Terri Alcorn (Bob) of Oklahoma City, OK, and Susan Holzhuter (Jay) of Brea, CA; sons: Jeff DuMars (Susan) of Lindsborg, KS and Greg DuMars (Kelly) of Lindsborg, KS; as well as 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband: Aaron; sister: Maxine Sizelove; granddaughter: Karie Frost Johnson; and son-in-law: Marv Johnson.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 1 from 4pm-6pm at Christians Funeral Home, 103 N. Washington, Lindsborg, KS.  During this time of COVID we ask everyone to wear a mask and practice social distancing.

Michael “Mike” J. Podlena, 69, passed away Thursday, October 29, 2020 in Beloit. He was born June 14, 1951 in Ellsworth to James and Doloris (Voeltz) Podlena.

Mike was a lifetime resident of Ellsworth County. He retired from the U.S. Army after a career that included service during the Gulf War. He then worked for Independent Salt Company in Kanopolis. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and Ellsworth VFW Post 6485.

Mike is survived by his daughter, Heather Wolting (Ryan) of Sylvan Grove, KS; sons, Justin Podlena and Paul Ryan Podlena (Laura) both of Massachusetts; daughter, Tamara McDaniel (Kurtis) of Scott City, KS; grandchildren, Hannah and Kaley Wolting and Jackson Podlena; mother, Doloris Podlena of Ellsworth; and brothers, Darrell Podlena of Ellsworth, Roger Podlena (Gwenna) of Kanopolis, and Robert Podlena of Blue Springs, MO. Michael “Mike” J. Podlena

Cheryl Lynne Pritchard passed away on October 28, 2020 at the Medicalodges of Eudora.&nbsp; She was born August 8, 1944 to John and Mary Rosenquist Mounkes in Emporia, KS.

She attended Americus schools and graduated with the class of 1962. She attended Hays Hairdressing School in Mission, KS and became a licensed hairdresser in 1963. She worked as a cosmetologist until 1965.

Cheryl married her high school sweetheart, Ronald Pritchard, on November 27, 1964. They lived in Emporia, where they raised their daughter Tina, until Ron’s job with the BNSF was transferred to Kansas City.&nbsp; They then made their home in Tonganoxie.

Cheryl’s greatest joy was being a wife, mother and grandmother.&nbsp; She also enjoyed traveling with Ron.&nbsp;&nbsp; After Ron’s retirement, they became snowbirds and spent the winters in Fort Meyers, FL every winter for the past 15 years. Cheryl was a member of the United Transportation Ladies Auxiliary for several years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers David and John Mounkes, sister Mary Weller and grandson Jeffrey P. Diekmann. Cheryl is survived by her husband Ron, and daughter Tina Diekmann and husband Jeffrey of Tonganoxie; grandchildren: Sarah Shaw (Patrick) and Jordan Diekmann, great-grandchild Rhett Shaw; sisters: Sandra Ross, Debra Hubert, and Patricia Davis; brothers Jimmy Mounkes and Richard Mounkes.

Cheryl will be remembered as a kind, loving and fun lady who loved life and was an encouragement to others.&nbsp; She will be sorely missed by her many friends and family.

A visitation will be held at 12:00pm, Wednesday, November 4th, at Sawyer Funeral Home with services following at 1:00.&nbsp; Interment will follow at Dunlap Cemetery. Masks are required.

It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of our brother,&nbsp;Daniel "Danny" Dougherty, 62 of Salina, KS. Danny passed away Tuesday, October 27th . He was born April 5, 1958 to Virgil and Dorris (Cooper) Dougherty whom he now joins in Heaven.

He was the youngest of five children and leaves behind one brother Jimmy "Doc" Dougherty and his wife Marsha of Salina; sister Betty Hewitt and her husband Kay of Salina; sister Barb Atchison and her husband Don of Mesa, AZ and sister Bonnie Daley and her husband Dan of Salina.

Danny was a fantastic Uncle and treated his niece and nephews as his own. Left to grieve him are his nephew Bill Hewitt and his wife Shelly of Carl Junction, MO and their children Richard and Rachael; his niece Crystal Trimble of Mesa, AZ and her children Jaycie and Kinley; his nephew Travis Atchison of Mesa, AZ and his children Shayla and Slade; nephew Brandon Daley of Chicago, Il, and niece Jennie Otter of Salina, KS.

Danny loved spending time with family and enjoyed any family get-together. He loved football and was a huge Chiefs fan. His favorite thing to do was to watch football with his brother Jimmy and he was never happier than those times he spent with him.

Danny was so kind, big-hearted, generous and never had a bad thing to say about anyone. If you were his friend, you were his friend for life, and he had many friends. Danny worked for Beechcraft for almost 30 years and continued many of those friendships.

Danny was a strong Christian and wanted everyone to know Jesus as their personal savior. We were so blessed to have him as a brother and will miss him every day until we meet with him again in Heaven.

A graveside service will be held at Gypsum Hill Cemetery, on his birthday, April 5, 2021 at 2 p.m.

Wanda Lee Peterson-Petz, 67, of Salina, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2020. She was born March 27, 1953 in Mt. Arie, N.C.

She worked in food service for USD 305 for 12 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jay and Rosilee (Brintle) Simmons.

Wanda Lee Peterson-Petz

December 3, 1930~October 27, 2020(age 89)

Mary's life began on December 3, 1930 in Hays, KS.  She was the daughter of Robert and Estella (Thouvenell) Hooker of Winona, Kansas. 

 Mary graduated from Fort Hays State College and began her career as a teacher.  She went on to teach in several schools including Wichita, Denver, Salina, Assaria, and the brand-new Southeast of Saline building.  At Southeast she taught 5th grade for most of her career, including both of her children.  As most teachers do, she went back to school at Emporia State Teacher's College for extra training and continued her career until retirement. 

 Mary met Kendall Carlson through a friend's introduction, and they were wed on November 20, 1960 in Winona, KS. 

 Mary was a member of the Assaria Lutheran Church and most recently was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Salina.  

As a young lady she played tennis for Fort Hays State. She was a formidable ping pong player and loved driving her Ford Thunderbird.  Mary loved to play bridge and pitch and was an expert card player her entire life.  She enjoyed the casinos and was one of those lucky people who frequently hit the jackpot. 

 Mary enjoyed getting together with the retired teachers in Alpha Delta Kappa and served as their president in 1993. 

Cheering for the Royals and for K-State Football was also a favorite pastime. 

 Her greatest joy was her family which includes her children Lynn (Rod) Just of Marion, and Dan (Gay) Carlson of Falun; grandchildren Evan (Brooke) Just of Wilsey, Erika (Cole) George of Uniontown, Nikki (Tim) Larson of Marquette, Caitlin Carlson of Nashua, NH and Alyssa Carlson of Wichita; great-grandchildren Rylee Larson and Brielle George. 

 Mary passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at Salina Regional Medical Center. 

 She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Kendall and her brother Robert A. Hooker. 

 Her family will gather with friends on Friday October 30, 2020 at 3 p.m. at the Salemsborg Lutheran Church for her memorial service.

&nbsp; Donna Lee Lawson, longtime resident of Abilene passed away at Meadowlark Hills in Manhattan, KS on Thursday, October 29th, 2020. She was born November 4, 1930 in the Barnes Community, the daughter of Elsie A. (Wilkinson) and George M. Kappel. They moved to Clay Center in 1939, where she spent most of her early childhood years. In 1942 her family moved to Abilene. She attended local schools and graduated from Abilene High School with the class of 1946. On June 11, 1949 she married Samuel L. Lawson. All their married life was spent traveling and following his military career. After his death in 1978 she was employed by the Dickinson County Clerk’s Office, retiring after 27 years of service. She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Abilene. They say a life filled with love is a life well lived. She lived quietly and loved beyond measure. What an example she has left for all those whose lives she touched. Survivors include two daughters Nancy Ehrich of Abilene, Ann Lawson of El Dorado, Kansas, son Eugene Lawson and his wife Ann of Manhattan, Kansas, six grandchildren Aaron (Jody) Ehrich, Abilene, Ks, Kristin (Cory) Birdsong, KC, Mo., Samuel (Michelle) Lawson, Auburn, Ks.
