Clovis, NM —&nbsp;Linda Shomo&nbsp;passed away in Salina, KS on February 10, 2021.&nbsp; She was born in Ransom, KS on October 7, 1946 to Raymond and Veta (Thompson) Lamoree.&nbsp; She grew up in Beeler, KS.&nbsp; She attended Brown-Mackie in Salina. There she met her husband, Richard Shomo who was stationed at Schilling Air Force Base. They married on March 21, 1965. To this union a daughter, Lisa Freeman was born; she survives.

Other survivors are a grandson, Jerry Freeman (Selina Martinez); sisters,&nbsp;Gayla (Wade) Michaelis, of Ness City, KS and Gwenda (Douglas) Philbrook, of Salina, KS and brother, Gary (Deborah) Lamoree, of Beeler, KS.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard and her parents.

A family graveside service is planned at the Beeler Cemetery at a later date as well as a memorial service in Clovis, NM.

He worked for E.H. Green Car Dealership in Texas and later for Herby Johnson and the Courtland elevator.&nbsp; He has resided with his nephew, Louis (Becky) Gonzales for the past 10 years.&nbsp;

Ramon enjoyed working on cars and helping his nephews.

He is survived by his brothers, Jose Hernandez &amp; Almufo Gonzalez; sister, Juanita; nephews, Louis Gonzales (Becky), Jesus Reyes &amp; Nicholas Gonzales &amp; niece, Alicia Gonzales; several more nieces, nephews, great nieces &amp; great nephews and family friend, Yvonne Ortiz.

Patrick Jude O’Brien, 77, passed away Sunday, Feb. 7, 2021. Pat was born in Wamego, KS. Sept. 14, 1943, the son of Larry and Leona (Umscheid) O’Brien. Pat graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1962. He served in the US Army with a tour of service in Viet Nam. Pat retired from USD #305 custodial services.

Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Tessa L. O’Brien and son, Lance Abrams, of the home; two brothers, Jim (Jo Ann), Harry (Norma), Salina and a sister, Jane (Robin) Spurrier, Wichita.

Pat is preceded by his parents, brothers, Kip and John O’Brien, sisters, Anita Siegel and Judy Dandurand.

Salina-&nbsp;William Richard "Dick" Commerford, 71, of Salina, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2021.&nbsp; He was born in Salina, to Charles and Eunice (Burke) Commerford, on August 18, 1949.&nbsp; He married the love of his life, Patricia Kay Wood, on September 7, 1968 at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Salina.&nbsp; He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1967, served for the National Guard, then attended Kansas Wesleyan University.&nbsp; 

Dick was happily employed at Stanion Electric Wholesale for over a decade. There he handled projects bids and quotations for the Salina branch.&nbsp; Prior to Stanion, he owned and operated DD&amp;S Electric for over 35 years.&nbsp; 

Dick was a loving husband and father with a very strong work-ethic.&nbsp; He was loyal, sensitive, intelligent and kind-hearted.

Survivors include his wife, Kay of the home; daughter Nicole Hilton (John), of Hume, MO; brothers, Don Commerford (Cathy) and Robert Commerford.

He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter Colleen Commerford; and brother Phillip.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 12, 2021 at Ryan Mortuary.&nbsp; Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Darrel is survived by his wife, Patty of Bennington; two sons, Mike Yost of Bennington and Marty and Marissa (Livergood) Yost of Topeka; his pride and joy – granddaughter, Sydney Yost, who is a student at K-State; grandson, Derek and Beth Cox; and great-grandson, Hudson Cox all of Manhattan.

Darrel married Patty Garst on June 13, 1965.&nbsp; He attended Kansas State University focusing on electrical engineering.&nbsp; He began working for Archer Daniels Milling Company (ADM) in 1967 and worked until his early retirement in 2000 due to failing health.

Darrel was a devoted father, husband, and grandfather.&nbsp; His biggest enjoyment was Kansas State University athletics which included football and both men’s and women’s basketball.&nbsp; He also loved attending his son’s and granddaughter’s high school and sporting events.&nbsp; Darrel was a sports fanatic.&nbsp; He loved to watch, participate, and coach from the sidelines at all sporting events.

Darrel and Patty had a farm near Salina that he and his boys would work on Saturdays and listen to the K-State football games.&nbsp; Darrel enjoyed the farm and working with his cattle.&nbsp; He raised vegetables – primarily tomatoes for whoever in Bennington would eat them.&nbsp; He enjoyed his time in the garden as this was his rest and relaxation. &nbsp;Darrel also loved his coffee time and lively conversation with “the gang” in Bennington.&nbsp; After retirement from ADM, he loved getting together with the retired crew several times a year so they could fix all the world’s and ADM’s concerns.

Darrel will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew the man he was.

Marcia Ann Seirer, 61, passed away on February 5, 2021, at her home in Salina, KS. 

On April 13, 1959, Marcia was born in Hays, KS to her parents Fidelis and Ileen Ruder. She attended Hays High School before going to Barton Community College to get her associate's degree for her ambitions as a Dietary Manager. Marcia cooked for Kennedy Middle School and Good Samaritan. She loved video games, card games and talking with her family.

Marcia was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Geraldine Wittman.

Survivors include her brother, John (Michelle) Ruder of Mulvane; her sister, Melissa (Craig) Irwin of Hays; 2 sons, Brandon Ruder and Shane Seirer of Salina; 7 nephews; 2 nieces; 6 greatnephews; and 11 great nieces.&nbsp;

James “Jim” Thomas Sykes, 67, of Galva, KS, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, at his home in Galva.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born January 31, 1954, to Silas Utah and Lucy May (Thomas) Sykes in Martinsville, VA.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was raised in Eden, NC during his school aged years.

He joined the United States Army in 1974.&nbsp;&nbsp;While stationed in South Korea, he was part of the Honor Guard for President Gerald Ford during an official visit.

James was united in marriage to Diana Kaye Cyphers on October 9, 1976.&nbsp;&nbsp;They made their home in McPherson, Elyria, and Galva.&nbsp;&nbsp;James worked for CertainTeed for 29 years and drove semi-trucks for JB Hunt and Land Star until he retired in 2019.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was a lifetime member of Bassmasters and fished with McPherson Bassmasters.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Diana; daughter, Melissa Bailey (Christopher) of Phenix City, AL; son, Matthew Sykes (Leslie) of Norman, OK; step-son, Bruce Richardson, Jr. of McPherson, KS; grandchildren, Tyler Johnson (Aspyn), Jesse Sykes, Keaton Johnson, Sawyer Bailey, Jadè Richardson, Coltyn Richardson, and Ashton Bailey; great-grandson, Lexington Noah Parker and he was looking forward to meeting his second great-grandson, Ryker Thomas Johnson; sister, Bula Fay Conner of Eden, NC; sister-in-law, Betty Sykes of Louisville, KY; many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Ralph Sykes and Wayne Sykes.

A memorial service with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 16, 2021, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.&nbsp;

Sykes Obituary - Visitation &amp; Funeral Information (stockhamfamily.com)</a>January 31, 1954 - February 10, 2021 James “Jim” Thomas Sykes, 67, of Galva, KS, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, at his home in Galva.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born January 31, 1954, to Silas Utah and Lucy May (Thomas) Sykes in Martinsville, VA.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was raised in Eden, NC during his school aged years.He joined the United States Army in 1974.&nbsp;&nbsp;While stationed in South Korea, he was part of the Honor Guard for President Gerald Ford during an official visit.James was united in marriage to Diana Kaye Cyphers on October 9, 1976.&nbsp;&nbsp;They made their home in McPherson, Elyria, and Galva.&nbsp;&nbsp;James worked for CertainTeed for 29 years and drove semi-trucks for JB Hunt and Land Star until he retired in 2019.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was a lifetime member of Bassmasters and fished with McPherson Bassmasters.He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Diana; daughter, Melissa Bailey (Christopher) of Phenix City, AL; son, Matthew Sykes (Leslie) of Norman, OK; step-son, Bruce Richardson, Jr. of McPherson, KS; grandchildren, Tyler Johnson (Aspyn), Jesse Sykes, Keaton Johnson, Sawyer Bailey, Jadè Richardson, Coltyn Richardson, and Ashton Bailey; great-grandson, Lexington Noah Parker and he was looking forward to meeting his second great-grandson, Ryker Thomas Johnson; sister, Bula Fay Conner of Eden, NC; sister-in-law, Betty Sykes of Louisville, KY; many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Ralph Sykes and Wayne Sykes.A memorial service with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 16, 2021, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.&nbsp;Memorial donations may be given to McPherson Bassmasters or a charity of the donor’s choice in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 N. ebra Marie (Lewandowski) Curlo, 64, entered peacefully into eternal rest February 9th, 2021 at Mitchell County Health Systems in Beloit, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born July 30th, 1956 in Fort Campbell, Kentucky the daughter of Marion Lewandowski.&nbsp; Marion was the son of Victoria Lewandowski who would raise her.

On September 7th, 1974 she wed Thomas Curlo in Loup City, Nebraska. In 1988 they moved to Grant, Nebraska where she worked as a cook for the school and local restaurants. In 2017 they moved to Beloit, Kansas where she lived out her days doing what she did best, loving on her children and grandchildren.

Deb was known as a servant that loved God, her family and others. &nbsp;She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.&nbsp; Her life was a living example of Ephesians 4:32 “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”

Her strong will, faith, and hard work has created something that will never be broken or forgotten.&nbsp; She did the best she could for anyone that had the privilege of meeting her.&nbsp; She was always willing to lend a helping hand and help those in need.&nbsp; She was so strong for those around her and now it is time for us to be strong for her.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her father, Marion Lewandowski and Grandmother, Victoria Lewandowski.

Survivors include husband Tom of Beloit, Kansas. Son, Jeremy (Kristen) Curlo of Garden City, Kansas. Daughter, Jessica (Garry) Lowry, of Beloit, Kansas.&nbsp; Grandchildren, Jamie Curlo of Hays, Kansas and Beckham and Bergan Lowry of Beloit, Kansas.&nbsp;

Memorial services will be at 10 AM Friday, February 19 at the St. John's Catholic Church, &amp; the rosary service will be at 9 AM. Services will be live-streamed through the St. John's Facebook page. Friends may sign the register book from 9 AM to 5 PM Thursday, February 18 at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. Rick was a cross country truck driver for years and was employed by Condray Farms, of Clifton, KS at the time of his death. &nbsp;Rick had the best personality and could strike up a conversation with anyone he met. Rick loved fishing, especially when his buddy Gary came along.

He is survived by his brothers: LeRoy Frank Hoerner and Robert Wesly Hoerner; and his sister AnnaDale Hoerner Miller.

Cremation has taken place. Due to the virus a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Cindy S. Gabel, 46 of Abilene passed away February 6, 2021. She was born March 9, 1974 in Salina, Kansas, the daughter of Bill Vaught and Kimberly Lake. On April 15, 2000 she was united in marriage to Clark Gabel in Abilene. 

Cindy was a CNA and also worked part time at McDonalds. 

Cindy is survived by her husband Clark Gabel. Two sons, Nicholas Gould and Ryan Helm. Parents, Bill Vaught and Kimberly Lake. Siblings, Bill Vaught, Rikk Drake, Joseph Gimple, Denver Gould, Misty Shields, Leah Vaught, Margaret Badders and Christina Gould. 18 nieces and nephews and three grandchildren. The family has chosen cremation.

A Memorial service will be held 3:00 P.M., Friday, February 12, 2021 at Grace United Church of Christ in Abilene.

SALINA -&nbsp;Barbara E. Long, 65, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2021.&nbsp; Barb was born in Washington, KS to Melvin “Bud” and Marie (Meyer) Long.

Barb worked at Schwan’s Foods for many years and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Everyone who knows Barb, knows her love for the New York Yankees. Growing up she never missed a chance to watch the Yankees on TV with her father and she loved to talk about her trip to New York City to visit Yankee Stadium.&nbsp;&nbsp; Barb also enjoyed music and reading but many times just being with her special friends was enough to bring a smile to her face.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;

Barb was preceded in death by her sister, Janeen Long.

She is survived by her sister, Shelly Martin; brother, Richard Martin; niece, Adie Fields and husband Brad; and great nieces and nephew, Blake, Morgan and Kamdyn.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday, February 12th at Ryan Mortuary.&nbsp; Burial will be private in Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina.&nbsp; A celebration of life will be held at a future date.

VaDonna C. Hansen Dohrmann was born in Hampton, Iowa, on August 11, 1935, and she was embraced by her Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 5, 2021, in the presence of her three children. VaDonna grew up in Coulter, Iowa, in a loving family that included her parents Einer and Edal and her younger sister Sonja. As a child she suffered from a battle with rheumatic fever, but she proved to everyone what a spunky fighter she was and would be her entire life. VaDonna was a full blooded Danish gal and she had the beautiful blonde hair and sparkling blue eyes to prove it. She attended high school at Franklin High, and that is where her sparkling blue eyes reeled in her husband of 64 years, Kenneth D. Dohrmann, who grew up in the small town of Latimer, Iowa. VaDonna and Kenny were married in 1955, after Kenny returned home from his service to his nation in the army. They moved to Mason City, Iowa, where Kenny worked as a bookkeeper. They welcomed their first son, David, in 1956, followed by another son, Lowell, in 1958, and their family was completed with a daughter, Renella, who was born in 1961. The family remained in Mason City until Kenny was offered a promotion to work with International Harvester in Kansas City, Kansas, in 1973. It was not an easy move for any of them as they were leaving behind all of their family members on both sides of the family, but it was a wonderful opportunity that the family just couldn’t turn down. Their stay in Kansas City was brief, however, as Kenny was soon offered the chance to become a partner in the Stewart International Harvester Dealership in Salina, Ks. VaDonna agreed once again to pack up the family and move on to what she hoped would be the best choice for her family. VaDonna began working as a secretary for the Salina school district at a Special Education Center where she formed life-long friendships with her colleagues and the students. She worked for the district for 27 years, choosing to retire in 1994, so she and Kenny could do some serious traveling. They took a cruise or two, went on bus tours to various destinations, and spent their winters in Harlingen, Texas, for several years so they could enjoy golfing and the company of some of their childhood friends from Iowa who also wintered in Texas.

VaDonna enjoyed creating beautiful ceramic pieces which she gifted to her three children and their spouses, and eventually to her 10 grandchildren and as of now, 18 great grandchildren. She LOVED her family dearly, and she and Kenny always made holiday dinners and family gatherings a special time filled with good food, matching clothes for the grandkids, and countless memories that will continue to make her kids and grandkids SMILE whenever they think of her.

And what made VaDonna smile? She treasured the time spent with her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids, and she enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino and hearing that winning “BUFFALO” sound from her favorite slot machine. She was a true competitor when she was playing cards, dominos, or any game that she played.

Kenny and VaDonna were very active members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Salina, Kansas, and their deep faith in the Holy Trinity guided and upheld them through all the ups and downs of life, especially when Kenny was diagnosed with cancer in October of 2019 and passed away in December of 2019. VaDonna remained very active until the last week of her life here on Earth, when her Savior let her know it was almost time to come home.

As VaDonna lay taking her last breaths here on Earth, her great grandson Noah Joshua Dohrmann was taking his first breaths on Earth. VaDonna, and GOD, were just reminding us all of HIS Circle of Life, and when our race is run, it’s time to cross the finish line.

VaDonna was preceded in death by her parents Einer and Edal Hansen, and her husband Kenneth Dohrmann. She will be dearly missed by her sister Sonja Penaluna and her husband Tom, her nieces Jill Rhiner Jodie Kohlsmith and their families, her late nephew Todd Penaluna, her children Dave and Lori Dohrmann of Marion, IA, Lowell and Cheri Dohrmann of Medicine Lodge, KS, and Renella and Brent Sherwood or Falun, Kansas. She will always be remembered as a “cool” grandma and great grandma by her grandchildren Sarah and Brian Jaeger, Brendan and Sidney, Ashley and Kyle Ransom, Charlotte and Audrey, Josh and Hayley Dohrmann, Daphne and Noah, Jay and Dakota Dohrmann, Kroy and sibling due in August, Julie and Brandon Warner, Kaylee, Brooklyn, Landry, and Charlie Jo, Judd and Brianne Dohrmann, Jax and Jett, Joe and Danielle Dohrmann, Whitten and sibling due in August, Jenny Sherwood, Jason and Hayley Sherwood, Jaylon and Layton, and Jordan and Adam Schneck. Glenda Rae Minnig was born on October 2, 1946, in Fairbury, Nebraska, the daughter of Aaron and Arlene (Thomas) Porter. Glenda attended Chester-Hubbell Schools, and graduated class of 1965. She then attended Kearney State College for one year.

She was united in marriage to Donald Lee Minnig on August 13, 1966, at the United Methodist Church in Chester, and to this union of 54 years, two daughters were born, Leesa &amp; Janna.

Glenda worked at Foote’s Café in Chester, and would also help her father at Hubbell Coop elevator during harvest. In January of 1989, Glenda started working as a teller at the People’s National Bank in Belleville, retiring 27 years later in January of 2016. Following her retirement, Glenda and Don relocated to Lincoln, Nebraska, to be closer to their family.

Always on the go, Glenda and Don attended as many of their children, and later grandson’s events, as they could. A picture of kindness and generosity, Glenda&nbsp; selflessly offered a helping hand to those in need. Her meticulous nature assured she cared for every detail, keeping many lists, very detailed records and thoughtful plans. She kept her faith and her community as cornerstones in her life and enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, encouraging all those who knew her.

Glenda passed away peacefully at her home in Lincoln with her husband, daughters, son-in-law and beloved pet Otis at her side on February 4, 2021, at the age of 74 years, 4 months and 2 days.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and brother in law Louie Flanagin.

She will be forever remembered by her husband Don, daughters Leesa Minnig and Janna Meyer and husband Shawn, grandson Paxton Minnig and his girlfriend Brooklyn Minzel of Lincoln, grandson Maddox Meyer and grandson Brixon Meyer of Malcolm. She is also survived by her sister Carole Flanagin of Lincoln, and brother Jack Porter of Omaha, many nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 10, 2021, from 9am – 8pm, at Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home in Belleville, with the family greeting friends from 6pm – 8pm.

Funeral Services will be Thursday, February 11, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Chester, with Pastor Brian Faust officiating. Burial will follow at the Chester City Cemetery.

Memorials are requested to the Glenda Minnig Memorial to benefit the Chester Methodist Church and the LEO Club, and may be sent in care of the funeral home.

Glenda attended Chester-Hubbell Schools, and graduated class of 1965. She then attended Kearney State College for one year.She was united in marriage to Donald Lee Minnig on August 13, 1966, at the United Methodist Church in Chester, and to this union of 54 years, two daughters were born, Leesa &amp; Janna.Glenda worked at Foote’s Café in Chester, and would also help her father at Hubbell Coop elevator during harvest. In January of 1989, Glenda started working as a teller at the People’s National Bank in Belleville, retiring 27 years later in January of 2016. Following her retirement, Glenda and Don relocated to Lincoln, Nebraska, to be closer to their family.Always on the go, Glenda and Don attended as many of their children, and later grandson’s events, as they could. A picture of kindness and generosity, Glenda&nbsp; selflessly offered a helping hand to those in need. Her meticulous nature assured she cared for every detail, keeping many lists, very detailed records and thoughtful plans.
